i love that ody's response to "let's have open arms instead" in Odysseus is hell no. it just feels so necessary; and not just for the obvious purpose of cementing his ruthlessness.

to me, it also reads as him finally being able to separate the ideas of the open arms philosophy from polites in his head. hell, i think it was the only time when the words "open arms" weren't sung in the open arms melody (though correct me if i'm wrong).

because i'm sure that, whether consciously or not, a big reason that it was so difficult for ody to let go of the open arms philosophy was that doing so may have felt like the equivalent of forgetting his best friend. which of course is not true!

in real life, you don't have to agree with someone just because you (or, in order to) love them. especially if you're in vastly different circumstances that have called for different things—that's just how it goes. and that doesn't change just because the other person, well. dies. it's not like the open arms philosophy is the only thing that can keep polites' memory alive.

yes, odysseus is ruthless now. no, that doesn't mean he's not still just a man who is haunted by his sins and dearly misses those he lost.

Hi again! I feel there is always room for writing what makes you happy :) You very thoughtfully explore your characters' foibles and deeper struggles. I love Neri trying to navigate her complicated relationship with her job and how that is mirrored in her interactions with Xanxus and Squalo. My favorites are the ones with Neri and Squalo. They're fun in the way they can be very snippy but understanding and the way they seem to be dancing around each other. Dangerous Xanxus is always good too.

Thank you for your continued kind words! That's definitely something I enjoy with my writing, if I were to have a 'writing style', I suppose. I've always loved getting inside the heads of Muses, working out the who and the why, the reasons and emotions behind actions.

Squalo and Neri is always an interesting one to think about, because I never want it to seem like I'm 'just shipping' two characters together - thinking about if there would be actual reason for it, the way they might act. They're both very prideful people, but Squalo probably moreso; not only is there an image to protect, he strikes me as a very private, closed off guy. Getting too close, physically or emotionally, is likely to have something savage thrown your way, to push you away. It's kind of funny, in a sadly sweet way. Squalo's first instinct is to attack to protect himself. Neri's is to pull away and isolate when things start veering towards 'more than friends' territory.

HEAR ME OUT, but mikasa probably gives you a glare, her eyes as wide as physically possible and exclaims “we’ve been dating for all these months, what do YOU think we are y/n?”, then grabs onto your hand, intertwining your fingers together, scooting closer to you on the couch and shushes you, “don’t interrupt movie night with silly questions”

levi is kind of like mikasa, in the sense that in his head, you’ve also been a couple for quite some time now, but when you surprise him with his question, he’d simply sigh, and hold both of your hands in his. he’d explain that even though this is what he thinks it might be the right time “to make it official in a proper way, right?”, looking up at you with a crooked smile. he’d kiss your hands and strike you with a “do you want to be my silly lil girlfriend/boyfriend y/n?” “why would you call me silly levi?” “we’ve been dating for 7 months and you dare ask me what we are… i know what YOU are and it’s “very silly”, as previously stated”

hange doesn’t even get it and responds with “uhm what are you talking about? we’re comrades” they said as they dag in the garden, their current project being “planting lilies”. you kneeled down beside them, proceeding to helping them with the holes on the ground. if hange paid one tiny look at your face, they’d know you were upset by their response, but instead, they kept on babbling about the plants and shared all the new information they’d learned about soil and seeds. what really got to them, was how you never responded to any of their statements. “something wrong y/n?” “yes hange, i asked you what we are and you said “comrades”, is that all i am to you? after all this time?” at this moment, you could see the confusion in hange’s face, the gears in their mind finally rolling. “oh y/n, i thought you meant right now cause we’re still on scout premises, you know… i think we’re a very happy, romantic couple and i’d like things to stay this way. but when on duty, we’re comrades” they said and gave you a sweet peck on the lips, you face becoming greasy with soil from their hands as they cupped your cheeks.

erwin is upset, what kind of stunt are you pulling on him? “we’re married, y/n. have been for 2 years now. what is this little game of yours?” he said and crossed his arms, staring at you intently. it was extremely difficult to hold back your laughter, it almost felt that you were about to choke trying to hold your breath. “it’s just a joke erwin, i’m filming your reaction” you explained and pointed to where you’d hidden your phone, camera capturing the both of you. “you and your pranks” he said, while grabbing the phone in his hand and saying “she got me… AGAIN!”, camera on him, then handed the phone back to you, kissing you on the temple. “we’ll sort this out later”

ymir will simply smile contently at you and hold your hand, a silent reassurance that you’re a thing. ymir tends to be more on the shy side, so she conveys many emotions through physical touch and by giving you certain “looks” and tons of special treatment, but you’ve come to know this is her way of expressing her feelings towards you

connie wasn’t expecting this conversation to happen right now, but he’s the calmer of group. “imma put this out there y/n and i hope i won’t regret it” he took a deep breath in as he held both of your hands in his, thumbs softly pressing down on your skin. “i know we agreed to be casual but this isn’t working for me anymore. i want us to properly be together, if that’s what you want too of course” he paused and waited for your response, avoiding your gaze. you responded with “of course it’s what i want too co-” but before you could finish his name, he hugged you tightly, squeezing your breath out of you and kissing all over your face the moment he pulled away. “is it too early to ask you to meet my mum?” connie pleaded innocently.

jean will play it nonchalant, as if he wasn’t about to burst and die because he wasn’t sure about your situation either, but was too scared to be the one to ask you first! “the talk” is quite welcome though, you can see how jean seemed more calm the more you talked about your situationship and where it might lead you, agreeing that you’re in it for the long run. he’s been giving you the puppiest of eyes throughout your conversation, only shifting his gaze elsewhere to put a strand lock of hair behind your ear or to caress your cheek. did i mention he has the goofiest smile? you almost thought he might be having a stroke, but poor boy is just so in love with you, he can’t believe you’re also in love with him.

sasha freaks out and begins to jitter. “what do you mean “what are we” y/n? are we not lovers? romantic lovers? very much in love? did i do something wrong? have i hurt you? what did i do?” you have to stop her rumbling by physically shutting her mouth with your hand and explain that everything’s fine between you, you simply wanted to clear any ambiguities and talk things through, but as you explained your trail of thought and why “the talk” was so important to you, you noticed sasha was spacing off, the look on her face turning more and more absent by the second. “hey, are you still here?” you’d question, but sasha’s response was “what’s an “ambiguities” baby?”

A part of me thinks that our Lilia is going to just yeet the baby at his past self. Deja vu right?? Don’t worry, he knows himself and knows the General will catch the little one.

After flicking Lilia on the forehead for his actions and letting Mal and Sil deal with him, you go to the General who’s frozen. He caught her of course, but he seems stumped on what to do.

You can’t blame him really. After being in war and seeing and dealing with what he has. This peace and quiet must be new, not to mention being in the future.

So you go to him and as gently as possible, making sure to not frighten him, move his hands so he’s more comfortably holding the baby.

Unknown to him, but his eyes softened as the little one curled into him while making cooing noises. You know your Lilia is taking a bunch of pictures.

“See? You’re a natural.”

He looks at you in disbelief but you can see the amazement in them too.

You tell him how he has no choice but to hold the baby now because she will cry if you move her from her new favorite spot. He flusters a bit at that.

Time goes on, General Vanrouge wears casual clothing and hangs up his armor temporarily after Lilia had a talk with him. His weapon is with him, you all understand why. His need to protect what’s his is engraved even though he doesn’t see it yet.

[Sometimes you see your Lilia looking at the armor. His eyes mixed with emotions. You simply lay your head on his shoulder; he kisses your hand]

The General gets attached to your daughter. She babbles at him and pulls at his hair. He tries not to flinch. For someone who was against raising kids, the General doesn’t say anything when your daughter stuffs his hair into her mouth or drools on him as she sleeps.

Lilia’s proud, “that’s my girl!” is often heard.

At one point, you take pity on him. You take a hairbrush, running it carefully through his hair before tying it in a high bun. You fondly roll your eyes at the pout your Lilia has before taking your daughter to feed. For the General’s sake, you chose not to comment on his flustered expression.

Our Lilia is repeatedly saying “spoilers” which irritates the General whenever he asks a question. You get why it’s frustrating but the scene is rather funny and your baby girl’s laughter agrees with you.

“I won’t have you ruining my future! I’ll have you know I wouldn’t change anything for the happiness I have now, so you have to be patient.”

Malleus and Silver both have the sweetest smile. They know exactly what he means.

The General watches how his future self acts. You can see the slight scowl and twitch of his eyebrow. He’s questioning his whole existence.

What surprises you is his question to you.

“Are you sure you want to be married to that?”

“Hey!”

You laugh softly, tenderly tucking a stray strand behind his ear, “Yes. He’s you, isn’t he?”

The smile you give him then has him falling deeper unbeknownst to him.

He tried to soothe you by distracting, babbling about any topic that came to mind to distract you from your pain, but it was hard to think straight when he saw you struggle; he wished he had the ability to just heal you instantly or, at the very least, protect you from ever getting injured again but he doesn’t have time to be stuck in daydreams.

Hifumi always has his charm at ten but there are some things he says that you can’t help but get flustered over. You’ve never been weak to his kitten talk as you know that’s what he uses on his clients but there are moments where he calls you his precious rose, or his lifeline, or his pillar of strength, and you can feel how deeply he cares for you.

Being considerate is the best way to make him blush. Making him his favorite meal or presenting his favorite snacks on movie night, taking care of the chores before he even has the chance to wash sleep from his eyes, these are all so thoughtful it makes him want to cry. The part that makes him blush though is when you tell him you did these things to make him happy, to give him a little break and to ‘selfishly’ have more time to spend alone with him.

I’ve been thinking about their first meeting all day.

Papa came back with something strange today.

The thing was bundled in cloths that smelled old.
