Languages you can speak and/or are learning. Which are you fluent in:

The short answer is that I tend to stop learning languages for a while (which is a killer for language retention), and then return to learning them over and over again. According to other people, I’m fluent in English, but I think that’s highly questionable, even on the days when I’m NOT sleep-deprived and over-caffeinated. 

The long answer:

I can speak English and a bit of Spanish (though it’s harder for me to understand other people speaking heavily accented English or Spanish, if that makes sense). I can do basic greetings in a few other languages if I remember to practice. Per conlangs: I’ve lost most of my ability to say phrases in Dothraki, swear in Sindarin, and translate English lettering into Elvish (c’est la vie), but I want to study Cyrillic lettering instead so…?

My exposure to fandom culture, pop music, and the internet has brought the unique surprise in that I can understand more written French than one might expect. Speak it and understand it when it’s spoken or sung? Um, no. Read it? Sorta, if I have a language dictionary and grammar guide handy. 

Currently, I am STILL learning Spanish, but I am also attempting to pick up ASL basics specific to service and healthcare-type work (or possibly Signed Exact English at first). I also want to understand the Cyrillic lettering system. When I get bored, I play with learning Catalan, Gaeilge, Esperanto, French, Yiddish, Hindi and Hinglish, German, Mandarin, Russian, Sindarin, Arabic, Greek, Latin, Navajo, Nahuatl, Dutch, and Farsi. (Note that I am NOT trying to become fluent in the latter atm, but when I get bored, I get interested in looking at other language’s structures and basic grammar, greetings, and writing systems. Hence why my family always knows it’s me on Duolingo… they look for the chick who appears to be learning 13+ languages, but is really only actively studying maybe 1-2.)
