Ooc: decided to do after Polites dies, perhaps more recent. Still trying Polites' moto of "greeting the world with open arms" but struggling to cope :D

Odysseus perks up at the sound; so familiar and yet so forgotten among the miles traveled on open sea. He no longer needs to sit upon the ship his men row, as his tail had been returned to him for a while now. So, instead, he had been resting on his back among the waves, hoping the gentle rise and fall would ease his mind. However, he still had to keep pace with the ship, and the peace never lasted long.

"Polites..?" the siren calls, hopeful despite the worry of his once strong mind faltering under the guilt of his best friend's light being snuffed out. He sits up and looks around, trying to spot a glimpse of the figure he missed.

As Iris spends time with the NRC students her fashion increasingly becomes whimsical. She used to wear plain, demure clothes when she was in her country and now her everyday clothes are a fancy oversized turquoise cardigan with moon shaped earrings and matching slippers. and anyway the point of valkyrie to me, of the two of them as any type of ship is the What if all the traits of yours most people saw as weird or creepy or dysfunctional were actually right up someone's alley and you complemented eachother and felt at home in the mutual weirdness...

and its mostly why, as much as more independance is good and all, ill never really be fully on board with the becoming human stuff, not with that phrasing of it in any case

While enjoying a largely positive reception, @RGalbraith's #TheRunningGrave is, like other #CormoranStrike novels, apparently being criticized for its length - that it's too long for "popular fiction." But, respectfully, I think this view is misguided. The criticism is in part "generic" -- that is, having to do with the genre of crime fiction. Conan Doyle wrote short stories, Agatha Christie novels are modestly sized. And readers have become accustomed to thinking that "poplular fiction" comprises short beach reads. But Wilkie Collins's pioneering works of English detective fiction like The Moonstone (1868) are nearly twice as long as Murder on the Orient Express. TS Eliot cited the length of Collins's work as one of its virtues, describing it as the first, the longest, and the best of modern English detective novels." Most importantly, @RGalbraith / @jk_rowling is not, it seems to me, setting out simply to write "popular fiction" - the #CormoranStrike series ought to be considered in the tradition of the Bildungsroman, or Coming-of-Age Novel which examines the psychological maturation of its central character(s). And a more just comparison would be the socially aware novels of Charles Dickens, whose "popular fiction" averaged in the hundreds of thousands of words! Bearing in mind that Dickens published in weekly and monthly serials, the salient point is that his "popular fiction" aimed to educate readers about what he believed were the urgent social issues of his time -- and so does @RGalbraith. In conclusion, #TheRunningGrave may be too long for you -- and that's fine. But with its keen spotlight on cults, crime, domestic violence, & so much more (I wish to avoid spoilers) it is for many of us NOT long enough... And could have been at least one chapter longer!

she’s related to a leviathan, w the world just being a basic one where a good handful of mythical creatures existed (mainly demi human! and probably oviparous animals like bird monsters and reptiles. idk im thinking too much into this. the larger beasts like rocs nd giant spiders died off years ago for a reason i haven’t decided yet, now but almost all of the beasts who went missing were in the process of having offspring. so for the leviathan that she’s related to, it died before the egg hatched. and now there’s a curse that makes the monster’s children demihuman)

ANYWAYS she lives off the coast of a scottish island, and after one of many sets of hibernation has risen to eat, she doesn’t have a crazy schedule like every thousand years, maybe like twice a decade when she feels like it. but she’s long as hell, probably multiple meters i haven’t decided exact numbers yet. so yeah she’s gone up to this fishing based village (it’s not the smallest place, this is a somewhat modern setting, but it’s still pretty rural) and just absolutely destroys their supply

His voice is a bit shriller than it should be. Okay, a lot shriller. In fact, he's pretty sure he's hit some notes he assumed weren't even possible anymore, promptly after expelling a sound Percy was positive couldn't have been human (or demigod . . . more like the squawk of a seagull? Nice and composed).

Riptide's readily in hand. If he had pulled that on any other god, they might've been offended, maybe snapped a finger and turned him into a pile of Percy Dust (which sounded suspiciously like Pixie Dust). Since this was Hermes, though, he'd have an easier time . . . presumably.

Regardless, he's already slackening out of a battle-tense stance, all the while trying to convince that organ in his chest to chill out before he keels over for reasons having nothing to do with an angry god. The tip of his blade droops, his gaze drifts from the offender for a moment while collecting himself, and at first, he snaps, “Can I help you?”

But maybe some part of him already knows. Maybe that part is just as much the culprit of his tight tone as his frazzled nerves. And maybe, whether it's that part or another one, he realizes he's being unfair—

��Sorry,” Percy mumbles, capping his weapon now that he's sure there's no threat. He looks back. “What's, um . . . ” What's up? doesn't seem entirely appropriate, either. “I'm gonna just go ahead and make a wild guess that you're here for a reason—?”
