//OK SO... something that I wanted to talk about in-depth is High Tide’s chest (not that way) and how his submarine altmode actually helps with protecting his spark. This is quite a long read so you better be prepared.

For the non-TF mutuals, a quick explanation: Cybertronians, like humans, does have a heart and ribcage to protect it, called spark and spark chamber respectively. Their sparks are their core, meaning that they can live with only their head if it’s still connected to the spark with energon supply (or not even that most of the time, it depends of the type of spark but I didn’t study enough to cover this topic and it’s a bit complicated to non-TF mutuals to understand, so I’ll keep it at that.) As you may have guessed, the spark is quite fragile as it’s their energy core, therefore they have hefty plating on the chest area to protect their core as best as they can. This is the basics of what a spark is, so let’s proceed to my next point.

As you may know, opposed to many Cybertronians that chose an airborne or a roadlike vehicle for their altmode, High Tide is a submarine. And like I rambled long ago, his spark is very fragile nowadays. You may be wondering why the choice of a submarine may be a good thing, considering he can’t transform on land to flee from a fight and he’s generally slower out of water. The secret lies on understanding how a submarine is designed.

Unlike cars and planes, most submarines are designed with two hulls: the outer hull and the pressure hull. The outer hull (also called casing or light hull) is responsible for the hydrodynamic shape of a submarine and distributes equal power necessary to drive such a thing. Even though, in theory, it’s non-pressure resistent out of water, it can prevent any stress caused to the pressure hull if the submarine gets damaged. The pressure hull, residing inside the outer hull, is responsible for all the main components of the submarine, and the most precious part of the vessel that should not be damaged when submerged. Between the outer hull and the pressure hull, there’s a space in between responsible to store other stuff and to be filled with water to make the submarine able to dive. It’s a bit more complex than that, but that’s the basics that I wanted to cover for this study.

Now that I yapped about how a real submarine works, let me translate that information to High Tide’s frame.

He’s a double hulled submarine type, meaning that he has an armor and something else in his chest area that works in the definition I said above to protect the spark. The outer hull would be his armor, relatively ‘weak’ like I said above but not quite easy to be torn through. Since Cybertronian metal is more resistent than normal metal, basically his armor is as strong as the pressure hull of a submarine. Since there’s something to be protected underneath that blue frame, if you were to take a strong hit on the chestplate — not the glass part, the metal part — you could hear that there was, indeed, some space in there. While the glass in his chest can be breakable, the metal plate is not easy to be removed as the pipes on his shoulders applies enough pressure for it to not disconnect entirely from his frame.

So let’s say you, somehow, managed to take it off. What’s underneath it? His pressure hull, a.k.a his body. Like I mentioned a few times before, High Tide does have a body underneath that blue plating and that’s one of the reasons why aside from self indulgence. It’s as strong as a normal pressure hull if not stronger due to the metal difference between species, revealing that this bot can still pack a punch even though his chest was revealed. Among many scars that are present on his torso (hint hint), one is more visible than others, right between his ‘pecs’. Under that scar, there’s a compartment that he’d never open to anyone unless he has a deep connection with them: his spark chamber, which lies his fragile spark within when opened.

For better understanding, I took my 3ds and drew the 3 layers mentioned above; the outer shell / armor, the pressure hull / body and his spark chamber containing his spark respectively:

TL;DR: Unlike most Cybertronians that have two layers to protect their sparks, High Tide has three, which can a huge advantage in battle.

Basically that is how High Tide would appear in the K.FP universe: big hat, scarf-like tissue to cover his mouth and a cape (that I unfortunately didn’t manage to draw it... let’s pretend it’s in his back so I feel less bad about it ahsnksk) as his equipment to travel through China. The most he’d show is his eyes (briefly) and his armor-like body, pulling the cloth in his mouth down only to eat.

... I think I did his scarf way too thorn but... oh well babdkdlx that will do!!
