궁금하던 독립서점에 가서 마음에 쏙 드는 여행기념품을 사고 작가님의 신간 소식도 듣고, 가까운 문구편집샵도 구경하고 이만하면 푸딩이 소화되었으니 칼국수 먹으러 가자!🍜 버스를 타고 가는 내내.... 내가 이 거리를 니니 데리고 걸어가려 했다니, 꿈이 컸군. 이라는 생각이 들었다.

난독증: dyslexia 글자를 읽고 이해하는 데에 어려움이 있는 증세. A symptom with which one has difficulties in reading and understanding written characters.

청천벽력: bolt from the blue (비유적으로) 맑은 하늘에서 갑자기 치는 벼락이라는 뜻으로, 뜻밖에 일어난 큰 재앙이나 사고. (figurative) A sudden stroke of lightning from a clear sky, used to mean an unexpected disaster or accident.

문맹: illiteracy 배우지 못하여 글을 읽거나 쓸 줄을 모름. 또는 그런 사람. The state of not knowing how to read or write because one has not learned to do so, or such a person.

연관되다: be related, be connected 둘 이상의 사물이나 현상 등이 서로 관계가 맺어지다. For two or more things or phenomena, etc., to be connected or related to each other.

해독하다: comprehend; interpret 어려운 구절이나 글 등을 읽어 뜻을 이해하거나 해석하다. To read a tricky phrase or text to understand or interpret its meaning.

상당하다: good; respectable 수준이나 실력, 정도가 꽤 높다. A level, ability, or degree being quite high.

빈익빈: the poor get poorer 가난할수록 더 가난해짐. A state in which poor people become poorer.

정교하다: sophisticated; refined 내용이나 구성이 정확하고 자세하다. Precise and detailed in content or organization.

The members were with me at both the begining and the end of high school and they congratulated me, asking when had I grown this much, and I remember eating jjajangmyun all together after the graduation ceremony.

저는 조금 다른 졸업식을 기억합니다.  I remember a slightly different graduation. 

스무살 무렵 저는 아직 데뷔도 하지 않았고 이제 막 대학 입학 앞둔 평범한 졸업생이었습니다. When I was around 20 years old, I still haven’t debuted and I was an ordinary graduate ahead of whom was university enrollment.

춤 연습을 할 때도 멤버들보다 며칠 앞서 준비를 시작하곤 하죠.  Even when practicing dance, I tend to start practice a few days before the other members.

여러분도 새롭게 시작해야 한다는 부담감에도 낮선 환경과 마주하며 어디로 가야 할 줄 모르겠다면 조급해하지 말고 잠시 멈추어 보세요. If you don’t know where to go as you encounter foreign environment and feel pressure about starting anew, don’t rush and try stopping for a while.

요즘 저는 한참 달리다가 넘어진 것 같은 그런 기분입니다. Lately I feel like I fell down after running for a long time.

그런데 사실은 축하보다는 걱정이 앞서는 것 같아요. 어디 아프지는 않은지 혼시 많이 힘든 건 아닌지 그리고 모든 게 엉망이 되어버린 것 같은 지금 이 시간을 잘 견디고 있는 건지. 또 요즘 여러분들의 몸과 마음이 괜찮은지 걱정이 많이 됩니다.  Truth be said, it seems like more worries are ahead than gratulations. I worry a lot if you’re not sick, if you’re not having a hard time, if you’re enduring well these messed up times, as well as if your body and mind is okay lately.

      원래는 22일(목)

난 터키 이스탄불행 비행기를 탔어야 하고

지금은 터키에 있어야 한다

하지만 오버 부킹으로 스텐바이 조차 안된다고,,,

서기 79년, 베수비오 산의 엄청난 화산 폭발과 함께 사라진 도시

2000년동안 화산재와 용암에 묻혀 있다가 1748년에 발굴이 시작 되었다고 한다

6m의 화산재가 덮여 있었기에 지금까지 보존이 가능했고

아폴로 신전과 함께 아직도 발굴중이라고 한다

2000년 전으로 떠나는 시간 여행에 함께 한 우리,

“Gangnam Style,” which has surpassed 1.5 billion views on YouTube. 

  모든 사람들이 생각하고 있는 싸이에 관한 가장 궁금한 질문들 중의 하나는 새로 공개된 “젠틀맨”이 유투브 15억 뷰를 넘어선 “강남스타일” 에 버금가는 곡이 될 수 있느냐이다.

*next: 시간,순서,중요성에 있어서 ‘다음의, 이어지는, 바로 다음의’ 뜻. 여기서는 ‘버금가는’이라고 해석하는 것이 적절할 것 같음. 즉, 강남스타일의 인기를 이어가갈만큼의 히트송.

   ⇨ 연필로 쓰세요 - an instrument (Write it with a pen.)    ⇨ 보통 기차로 출근합니다 - a means (I usually go to work by train.)    ⇨ 이 글을 큰소리로 읽어 봐요 - a way (Read this text loudly.)    ⇨ 돌로 지은 집이라서 정말 시원하군요 - a material (Houses built of stone are truly cool (as in refreshing).)    ⇨ 간암으로 남편을 잃었어요 - a cause (She lost her husband due tu liver cancer.)    ⇨ 이 수표를 현금으로 바꿔 주세요 - a result of some change (Change this cheque to cash please.)    ⇨ 그를 우리 모임의 대표로 뽑았어요 - a post, position (We chose him as the representative of our meeting.)    ⇨ also indicates a destination with verbs such as 떠나다, 향하다, 출발하다, 이사하다... (compared to particle 에, there is more emphasis on the destination than on the way there)
