[END 2020] My Top 9 Danmei Novel Picks of the Year

As a part of my Round Up post for the year, here’s my pick of favourite danmei novels, that I’ve read! This is sort of an accompaniment to my previous danmei rec list over HERE, so there may be one or two overlaps, but I’ve read WAY MORE after that and am prepared to like give more options here

Note: There should be English translations for all via novel updates if you do a search of the English name, but I don’t think most of them are completed.

I’m leaving out the usual MXTX and Priest ones, because they’re already good and we all know that and there’re many carrds and posts dedicated to them.

I am also a sucker for fainting but smart men, and not too overly angsty/complicated storylines, just putting it out there first, which is why I haven’t read a lot of some of the ones on my queue list.

1. 一剑霜寒 | A Sword of Frost by 语笑阑珊

Summary: Jing Yan Ran is the Emperor’s brother and wields military power in the novel, and it starts with an object being stolen from the palace. Jing Yan Ran has to retrieve the item secretly, and so enlists the help of Feng Yu Sect’s Sect Master, Yun Yi Feng, who heads the martial arts world’s one and only information trading post. Yun Yi Feng does not deal in business that involves any royalty, but Jing Yan Ran offers him something he cannot refuse - the Blood Red Lingzhi, a rare and mystical herb that is rumoured to be able to treat his life-threatening condition.

Yun Yi Feng was used by his shifu when he was younger to test out all kinds of poisons and cures, and since then, his body flushes dangerously hot and cold frequently, with bouts of severe coughing fits in between. Throughout the first mission where he spends time with Jing Yan Ran searching for the stolen object, he allows Jing Yan Ran to take care of him, and they fall in LURVE pretty much like 10 chapters in.

Of course, they have to uncover a plot and conspiracy against their enemies who are plotting to dethrone the Emperor, and also reveal the secrets of Yun Yi Feng’s birth.

My Thoughts: AN ABSOLUTE FAVE AND GEM, I’d say this is my favourite danmei novel ever. This is both hilarious and tears-inducing, to be honest, because for most of the novel YYF knows he doesn’t have long to live and so in the beginning he knows of his own feelings for JYR and JYR also shows him that he loves him, but he is unable to officially reciprocate because he knows his body is like weakening day by day. Halfway through the fear that he’s literally about to die as they are JUST about to find the cure is real, and damn I cried so much at that. Some highlights:

YYF falls asleep very easily in baths and everywhere actually, and pretty much within the first 10 chapters he gets used to JYR carrying him around (even naked from the bath, he’s like oh well, okay cool) and taking care of him, and JYR ALWAYS makes sure he is warm and toasty under his cape

YYF LOVESSSS RICHES, PLAYING THE ZITHER AND COOKING - He’s good at gathering the first one, but he FUCKING SUCKS AS THE LAST TWO - It’s so funny because he’s so beautiful and handsome right, and when he sits down at the zither everyone is like OH DAMN WHAT A DREAM- and then he plays, and everyone’s fantasies is shattered, he’s ABYSMAL at it, and the same goes for cooking

JYR doesn’t actually have the Blood Red Lingzhi, and throughout the first arc, he feels SO DAMN GUILTY because YYF even carved out a pendant that looks like what he thinks the herb looks like, and like carries it with him everywhere LMAO

2. 高能二维码 | High Energy QR Code by 青色羽翼

Summary: CEO Xing Ye’s brother Xing Shuo has just passed away at the age of 24, and nothing will make him believe that Xing Shuo died of natural causes despite autopsies and experts telling him that he really died simply of a heart failure. Xing Ye, who has impeccable memory, suddenly recalls the last time he saw Xing Shuo. His brother called out to him just before Xing Ye left for a business trip, and looked as if he had something to say, but ended up just wishing him a safe trip.

At that moment, there was a QR code on Xing Shuo’s phone, and the phone screen was strangely turned out towards Xing Ye, and Xing Ye, with his incredibly high IQ and memory, realizes that Xing Shuo wanted him to see the QR code. Quickly, he reproduces the QR code by pen and then scans it, and finds himself in a game world.

There he meets a narcissistic but also cute mirror which can speak, and finds out later that his name is Lu Ming Ze. Xing Ye’s mission is to clear the game missions in each round that is set by the black and white cubic game system, a system that continuously tempts its players into giving in to committing sins such as killing someone else, stealing and other things. He soon realizes that if he cannot stay on a path clear of these sins, he will never be able to triumph over the game system and return Lu Ming Ze back to his body in the real world.

At the same time, he gains new teammates and friends for life, and also finds out what role his brother played in this game.

My Thoughts: MY GOD I LOVE THIS. I LITERALLY JUST FINISHED READING THIS YESTERDAY, and honestly it’s one of my faves. I don’t like game systems very often (I’ve read three others so far, and this, and KOD are the only ones I’ve liked) but this one is *chef’s kiss*. So LMZ was born like with a really handsome face, like SUPER HANDSOME, and that’s why he’s like a harmless narcissist that cannot bear to look at ugly things LMAO, but he’s not spoilt, he makes sure that Xing Ye stays true to himself, and help him keep his head clear.

THE ONLY THING ABOUT THIS FRICKIN NOVEL IS THAT LU MING ZE STAYS A MIRROR, LIKE DIFFERENT KINDS OF MIRRORS, in the first TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY CHAPTERS. I KID YOU NOT. I FRICKIN KID YOU NOT. I swear I was sooo touched starved at the end of the novel, because they couldn’t even kiss?!! Like Xing Ye kisses the mirror, and then uses his thumbs to like hi-five mini LMZ in the mirror back, they can’t even hug. Do you know how empty my arms felt when I read this book?!! And my arms have never been filled!!!!!!

I really like this one because each game world is set up in such a brilliant way, but it’s not so unnecessarily complex that you literally don’t know what the fuck is going on. Xing Ye’s intelligence as he outmanoeuvres every single one of his enemies and convinces his would-be loyal teammates to trust him is so satisfying, world after world, victory after victory.

Humour is also absolutely ON POINT. A lot of it is centred on Xing Ye getting caught in the real world kissing his handheld mirror (LMZ) by LMZ’s parents (who cannot see him in the mirror) and LMZ’s parents going like ???!!!!!!!!

3. 妻为上 | The Wife is First by 绿野千鹤

Summary: This is set in a historical setting where men can marry other men, but it’s usually reserved for sons who were not borne by the official main first wife of the patriarch of the family, i.e. a son born by a concubine in a family may be forced to marry a man to keep him from being able to become the next family’s patriarch for example. This is because any family’s next leader needs to be able to have children with a wife who married in as a zheng shi (lawful wife), and not a ce shi (second wife) or any other concubines/mistresses etc. Most of these men who marry other men have to take them as their zheng shi and lawful spouse in a sense, and the same goes for the royal family.

The story starts with third prince Jing Shao, who was forced to marry Mu Han Zhang, a Marquis’ second son, by the Empress and Emperor, thereby officially and effectively cutting him out of the race for the throne. He’s mocked by the public as everyone knows what this means, and for the next 10 years, he neglects Mu Han Zhang, blaming him for his predicament, and deliberately showers his three other concubines with affection in front of him, but 10 years later, when Jing Shao is accused of treason, everyone leaves him except for Mu Han Zhang. They are chased to the edge of the cliff by soldiers, and Mu Han Zhang dies in his arms having taken an arrow meant for him earlier, and Jing Shao jumps off the cliff with his dead body, and promises that if there’s a next life, he will do everything Han Zhang says, and love him.

He wakes up immediately on the night of his marriage with Han Zhang, and realizes that he’s been given a second chance to make everything right. Han Zhang is definitely afraid of him, humiliated and angry when he first wakes up after how rough Jing Shao was with him earlier on their wedding night, and he has no memories of their past life. Jing Shao then sets to SHOWER HAN ZHANG with affection, love and basically everything, because he realized that this is the only person who stayed by his side until the end, and then he falls in love with Han Zhang properly this time, and also deals with every single person who maligned and schemed against him in his previous life, with Han Zhang by his side.

My Thoughts: OKAY BEFORE YALL GO INTO THE ‘WIFE’ terminology discourse and everything, in this case they do use the term ‘wife’ literally, and it’s a position, that while men frequently fall into (there are a lot of male ‘wives’ in this story), is also used to cut off like sons from inheriting the family and the fortune, and even titles. Male ‘wives’ aren’t looked down upon in this setting, in fact, Han Zhang gets a lot of leeway as one, and in his case he was also able to rise up the ranks to be an actual official later on, but the sad thing comes from sons who are most of the time forced to marry a male ‘wife’ for whatever reason, and then they are neglected as the son goes and find concubines, women he actually wants to sleep with - this is sad af yall. I don’t know, on one hand, yay for equality in marriage in this setting, but on the other hand like, damn, must you use same-sex marriage like that argh.

ANYWAY THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVES TOO?!!! I mean, especially when Jing Shao literally just goes into doting mode 200% and Han Zhang is totally like wtf why is he so nice to me is he scheming or something? And then he realizes that Jing Shao is really, really gentle towards him despite his reputation as a cruel, dark military commander, and Jing Shao always smiles at him. In any situation, especially in the beginning, when Han Zhang thought Jing Shao would not stand with him, Jing Shao literally just protects him no matter what, gives him everything, and cries, I love it.

Especially because Han Zhang is the son of a concubine and he was bullied a lot in the Mu family, and the official Lady Mu married him off to Jing Shao in hopes that he would be unhappy for the rest of his life, and I suppose that came true in the first life, but in the second, Han Zhang gets all the love, respect and support he never got before in this family with Jing Shao and that makes me WEEP.

4. 死亡万花筒 Kaleidoscope of Death by 西子绪

OOOH I intro-ed KOD here in my previous rec list. Still one of my faves and all-time re-reads, especially under the covers in the dark hehehe.

5. 你的距离 | Your Distance by 公子优

Summary: Ting Shuang is a student at a German university, and has this handsome professor Bai Chang Yi who he swears kind of hates him. He’s just broken up with his longtime boyfriend, and then goes on this dating app that matches a profile with him based on distance. The app can also show the matched profile’s distance from him once they enter the same area, and Ting Shuang starts chatting with this Chinese guy on the app, who he finds out later, is 36 years old, 187cm in height and wears glasses.

The guy is a little aloof and cool, very mature in his replies on the app, and somehow Bai Chang Yi finds out who he is later, as Ting Shuang starts complaining to him about his professor to Bai Chang Yi. Instead of getting angry and offended, BCY is pretty much amused and finds Ting Shuang cute. A few days later Ting Shuang finally realizes who it is he’s been texting, and after getting past the initial embarrassment and fear, they start dating for real, and they really fall in love!!!!!

My Thoughts: This is sweet and also hilarious af, if you need to like satisfy your sweet tooth, this is definitely one for you. It’s really funny because Bai Chang Yi runs in the same circles as Ting Shuang’s dad, who he’s estranged from because the dad doesn’t want to recognize a son who is gay, and then BCY convinces him later in the funniest of ways, and there’s a small subplot at the end in which Ting Shuang is pretty cool, and yep, short and sweet! BCY in the manhua is handsome af too guys ;-;

6. 神木挠不尽 The White Cat’s Divine Scratching Post by 绿野千鹤

Summary: Mo Tian Liao, a weapons forger and master who ruled the Demon Tribe, was hunted down and killed by other righteous sects in the region when he managed to forge an incredibly destructive weapon that could end the world. Before he died, he placed the only thing he loved, a white cat, into a hole in the tree behind him to protect it. The only thing he was grateful for was that he did not create a blood pact with the cat, Xiao Mao, because if he had done so, when he died, Xiao Mao would have died along with him as well.

Right before he dies, unbeknownst to him, Xiao Mao who is no simple demonic cat, wraps part of his consciousness around Mo Tian Liao, and MTL’s spirit ends up floating about for 300 years, until he finds a suitable time to return with a body made out of a special tree and its wood. The first thing he does, of course, is to find his white cat, but he’s poor, and the body he has isn’t powerful, so he joins Wo Yun Sect, the only sect that did not hunt him down that day hundreds of years ago.

There, he is chosen by Qing Tong shizun to be his direct disciple, much to the astonishment of other shizuns in the sect, and Qing Tong’s shixiongs. MTL has never seen a person as beautiful and gorgeous as his shizun, and if only he could find that cat (who’s actually his shizun, who recognizes him and protects him, even if MTL doesn’t actually need much protection).

My Thoughts: This was hilarious as well, and so romantic?!!! Qing Tong/Xiao Mao waited for MTL to come back, and the moment he came back, Qing Tong was there ready to grab him, and then before he went to sleep that night, Qing Tong thought to himself, “I’ve gotten my person back, I can sleep well now” and AHHHHH at this point they weren’t even like a couple yet? MTL ‘kidnapped’ Qing Tong when he was a young demon cat by accident because he likes pretty things (like his shizun lmao) and Qing Tong is attached to him because MTL never forced a blood pact on him, and gave him everything he wanted as a younger cat before MTL died. Gosh, a mirror in #2 and then a cat now with this one. XD

7. 破云 | Breaking the Clouds by 淮上

Summary: Three years ago, Captain Jiang Ting and his team of the Narcotics division perished in an explosion due to a wrong call of his, and he returns three years later under a new identity ready to deal with the people who set him and his team up. He’s caught in what seems to be a simple murder case almost immediately and meets Yan Xie, who’s Vice Captain and in charge of this case. Yan Xie realizes who Jiang Ting is shortly after, and begins to unravel the huge mystery surrounding the events of three years ago, and falls in love with Jiang Ting along the way as well.

My Thoughts: Okay out of the FOUR crime/detective/thriller danmei novels I’ve read, the poyun and tunhai (below) series is the one that MIRRORS actual narcotics division and undercovers the best. It has the complexity and depth of the drugs/narcotics world, and both this one and its sequel focuses a lot on the position of an undercover and mole. I liked this one a lot because there are SOOOO many twists especially in the last arc, like you honestly won’t see any of them coming until it hits you? And Yan Xie is such a confident, rich-ass narcissist, and he keeps asking Jiang Ting if he can “just touch” him ONCE lmao, he’s thick-skinned af, but that’s why he and Jiang Ting are so compatible ;-;.

8. 吞海 | Swallowing the Sea by 淮上

Summary: Sequel to Po Yun. Yu Wu is a young-looking new detective under Captain Bu Chong Hua’s narcotics team. Bu Chong Hua is Yan Xie’s cousin by actual relation, but brother in relationship because BCH’s parents died early and Yan Xie’s parents have been taking care of him mostly. He cannot stand Yu Wu, who seems to want to coast through at work and keep to a 9-5 work schedule.

It’s only after an altercation and Yu Wu dumping his nonchalant facade to snarl at BCH that he realizes that YW is actually more interesting and mysterious than he thought, and he begins to try to get close to him, understand him. It turns out that Yu Wu is a famous undercover who nearly died a year ago during an operation, and due to various reasons, he was assigned to BCH’s team by higher ups so he can peacefully live the rest of his life out there. However, his past catches up with him quickly, and his enemies turning up forces him to rely on BCH.

With BCH, Yu Wu’s resentment of having to be an undercover in the past and being so easily discarded by his team’s leaders, and of him being forced to be in the shadows while others can announce their achievements to the world, is slowly erased, because BCH sees him, knows him, and understands him more than anyone else.

My Thoughts: I actually liked this one better than the first one - Yu Wu is such a pouty, angry little thing?! And for good reason (there’s a bit of cannibalism in the book, not by choice when he was younger and in a poor village in Cambodia, where some militants forced survivors in the village to eat the meat of boiled corpses of other villagers, so YW is a vegetarian, like if he eats meat he gets really sick) and the twists here are even more amazing?! BCH really, really, devotes himself to YW the moment he realizes how much he likes him, doing a 180 degree turn. Instead of Yan Xie’s flamboyance, BCH is much steadier, grouchy, like an old uncle, but also looks at things even more clearly than Yan Xie does sometimes. Yu Wu is understandably bitter about what he had to go through, and BCH is the ONLY person who can calm him down, whom he listens to, which I LOVE. Some highlights:

Yu Wu grew up in a poor village and thus loves money, and he fights in underground betting rings to earn more money - The stash of hidden money he collects I think is half for his escape money, but if he happens to never need it, his dream is to donate the money to his village so they can open up a school there - ANYWAY because Yan Xie’s parents, and technically BCH’s ‘parents’ are soooooo rich right, Yan Xie’s mom shows her approval to her son-in-laws (Jiang Ting first, then Yu Wu), by giving them winter pants. It’s kind of like inside warmers, and usually meant for older ladies to wear LOLOL so Yu Wu was like staring at the pants when he finally got them and looked soooo reluctant until Jiang Ting told him it costs $6,000 AND HE WAS LIKE :333333 okie

He acts a lot like a kid?!! He likes eating like some snack but it’s really unhealthy for him, and BCH the mother hen keeps catching him in weird places like the toilet, where he’s hiding from BCH so he can eat his fave snack?! And the whole police station knows not to give YW what he wants in terms of snacks and smokes because once BCH finds out, he makes life very difficult for them HAHAHAHA

9. 穿成反派如何活命 | How to Survive as A Villain by 伊依以翼

Summary: Rich and handsome CEO Xiao Yu An finds out he has a terminal illness (cancer), and dies while he’s reading this online novel, where a king mistreats the crown prince from a neighbouring state which sent him over as hostage after losing a war, and ends up being killed by the crown prince years later (SVSSS much?!). He wakes up AS THE KING, and afraid of dying, he immediately goes about befriending the prince, Yan He Qing. Yan He Qing falls in love with Xiao Yu An while being his friend/hostage/bodyguard, and Xiao Yu An tries to avoid all the deaths he read in the book, while making sure Yan He Qing manages to find his three/four wives, including Xiao Yu An’s sister.

Of course, because Xiao Yu An showed him warmth and kindness, Yan He Qing ends up falling for him instead, and Xiao Yu An is an absolute oblivious idiot because he REALLY doesn’t realize until much later. Yan He Qing ends up declaring war on Xiao Yu An’s kingdom because he is duty bound to do so, but doesn’t hurt Xiao Yu An, wanting to keep him by his side, but YHQ’s scheming uncle drives a wedge between them, and XYA leaves, breaking YHQ’s heart.

They meet again a few years later, where XYA is training to be a physician in a small village and chances upon a severely injured YHQ. There, he realizes that it was all a misunderstanding, and that YHQ actually LIKES, LIKES him, but before they can enjoy this short period of happiness, disaster strikes again.

My Thoughts: THIS WAS really enjoyable, and with the manhua visuals, it is *chef’s kiss*. I think this transmigration version actually delved into the part where XYA is unable to change everything, and if he saves one person, someone else is destined to die, and that moral dilemma devastates him a lot. In this novel he actually transmigrates TWICE, once into the king’s body, and the second time into a neighbouring state’s prince/king’s body, who looks exactly like his modern self after. YHQ is real sweet to him istg, and I like that the epilogues are SUPER EXTENSIVE, including an arc where YHQ and XYA transmigrate back to the real world and everyone who died is alive and close to them, and gets their happy ending ;-;

The son of George Joestar I, Jonathan is an honest, kind and positive man whose life is fraught with tragedy after meeting his adopted older brother, Dio Brando. In his battle against Dio, Jonathan becomes a Ripple user under the tutelage of the master Will Anthonio Zeppeli. 4/5

“ He's not just looks and clothes, but a real honest-to-god gentleman... I like it! “ —Speedwagon (Jonathan was proud and mischievous, yet gentle. Despite already aspiring to be a "true gentleman", Jonathan lacked manners and mostly behaved like a normal child. His mother having died before he could remember her, and his fellow boys ostracizing him because of his status left Jonathan somewhat lonely. While at first, Jonathan didn't have his future strength of will, Dio unwittingly became the catalyst of his growth by pushing him to the edge and humiliating his then girlfriend Erina Pendleton. He did not so much as flinch as he grasped an assailant's knife within his hand, saying he had much more riding on the fight than merely four fingers. As a gentleman, Jonathan is also kind and positive. Jonathan has a mindset where he tries to imagine the consequences his actions would have on other people, even if they appear to be enemies. He is gentle and sympathetic, feeling pain even as he vanquishes a zombified copper. Despite his skill in fighting, he will never seriously harm a person without a valid reason. Even after everything Dio has done, Jonathan still considers him his brother, and sheds tears for him. His courteous nature as well as his mental fortitude and ability to withstand fear and pain, is the main reason Speedwagon decides to aid him on his journey. During his life, Jonathan has always had an impulse to save others, beginning with Erina, and ending with his thought of a nearby baby just as he was agonizing from Dio's attack. Yet Jonathan can feel righteous fury at the evilness of his foes, and will conduct justice by vanquishing them. He admitted that his reason for fighting Dio wasn't out of duty for saving the world, but to avenge his loved ones that Dio had killed. Moreover, he has no pity for truly despicable individuals he is not familiar with such as Doobie. With his courage and spirit, Jonathan sets a legacy as the first JoJo of the series.Fascinated with the Stone Mask, Jonathan tried to study it and even took on the path of archaeology. However, not having thought of putting in on anyone, Jonathan didn't discover its true purpose himself. 5/5

(3) ABILITIES:

Athleticism - Jonathan had lived a rough past as the son of an aristocrat, and was known in his childhood to have been at least a competent boxer. In his college life, he played Rugby alongside Dio Brando, and was revered as one of the two stars of Hugh Hudson Academy.Even prior to learning the Ripple, Jonathan was able to hold his own against three thugs, Speedwagon among them, with sheer might and willpower. He was capable of wielding various weaponry held by the suits of armor in the Joestar Mansion. He had also performed incredible feats of strength, such as jumping from the hilt of a sword and hoisting himself up to the second floor while doing a flip over the guardrails, despite his arm being inhibited by a spear pierced into his pectorals. Perhaps his greatest display of strength was after being revitalized and empowered by Zeppeli's Ultimate Deep Pass Overdrive, where he ripped through 3 steel bars clutching his neck, a feat that even the mighty zombie Tarkus outright admitted he was incapable of.

Intelligence - Jonathan is shown to be an intelligent person and a very competent thinker during battles, constantly coming up with new strategies mid-combat to defeat foes such as Bruford and Dio. Academically, Jonathan graduated from university after having written a celebrated thesis in archaeology. He has meticulously studied the Stone Mask, going as far as identifying the spots in the brain it would pierce,but didn't discover its true purpose himself.In a fight, Jonathan is adept at thinking of moves on the spot and using the environment to his advantage. On several occasions, Jonathan was quick to formulate plans even in a moment of crisis. Still recovering from the loss of his father, Jonathan had to fight a vampirized Dio, and quickly thought about burning down the Joestar Mansion in order to bring Dio down. Likewise, agonizing from a wound in the throat (which also led to a loss of oxygen going to his brain), Jonathan managed to use his last Ripple on Wang Chan to dispose of a horde of zombies and Dio at the same time by controlling Wang Chan's body to make the boat explode. Jonathan even notably used his belt as a supplementary whip before ever acquiring the Ripple, as well exploited the fact that Windknight's Lot was a coal mining town to deduce that a lake would have air pockets at its bottom to surprise Bruford with an unexpected production of Ripple.

Ripple

Jonathan has an arsenal of ancient martial art techniques, most inherited from Will A. Zeppeli and involving Ripple, at his disposal. Some are his original creation, each ending with "Overdrive".

Zoom Punch (ズームパンチ Zūmu Panchi): Jonathan launches his fist forward and strikes his opponent. First used by Zeppeli, the attack involves a Ripple breathing technique that dislocates and stretches the joints to extend the arm and give it greater reach while also using the same Ripple to dull the pain caused by the move. Due to the increased length, the strike immediately reaches the opponent's face first, which from that perspective seems "zoomed in."

Sendo Ripple Overdrive (仙道波紋疾走オーバードライブ Sendō Hamon ShissouŌbādoraibu): Jonathan charges a Ripple wave through his arm and releases it into a solid object, such as a wall or partition. The Ripple can travel through and reach anything on the other side, and anything hit by the Ripple is sent flying in a spiral. If the enemy is an Undead, the Ripple will enter their bloodstream and destroy them from the inside.

Scarlet Overdrive (緋色の波紋疾走スカーレットオーバードライブ Hiiro no Hamon ShissouSukāretto Ōbādoraibu): Charging the Ripple into one hand, Jonathan can create a Ripple of flame. He is able to transfer over this flame to another part of his body, and anything that touches that body part has a chance of catching fire.

Underwater Turquoise Blue Overdrive (水中のための青縁波紋疾走ターコイズブルーオーバードライブ Suichū no Tame no Aomidori Hamon ShissouTākoizu Burū Ōbādoraibu): Appropriately the strongest place to use the Ripple, Jonathan can release high powered tempests while underwater with enough force to blast enemies away. In most cases, a good portion of the water is propelled outward as well, draining something like a lake to waist-high depth.

Overdrive Barrage (波紋疾走オーバードライブ連打 Hamon ShissouŌbādoraibu Renda): When Jonathan jabs fast enough consecutively, he can release multiple Overdrives at once.

Metal Silver Overdrive (銀色の波紋疾走メタルシルバーオーバードライブ Giniro no Hamon ShissouMetaru Shirubā Ōbādoraibu): Essentially the same as a Sendo Ripple Overdrive, but with the ability of transferring through metal.

Life Magnetism Overdrive (生命磁気への波紋疾走オーバードライブ Seimei jiki e no Hamon ShissouŌbādoraibu): With the aid of Zeppeli, Jonathan can draw all the leaves in the immediate area and magnetize them together to form one giant leaf, which was used as an impromptu-hang glider. This move can be applied to most plants, and has the ability to revive them passively as well - as when Jonathan touched a dead tree branch with his newly Ripple-healed arm and restored its wilted flowers.

Sunlight Yellow Overdrive (山吹き色の波紋疾走サンライトイエローオーバードライブ！！ Yamabukiiro no Hamon ShissouSanraito Ierō Ōbādoraibu, Lit. "Bright Yellow Ripple Sprint"): His final and most memorable attack, first marked by Jonathan's words: "My heart resonates! The heat's enough to burn! The beat of my blood is razor-sharp!!" (ふるえるぞハート！燃えつきるほどヒート！！刻むぞ血液のビート！ Furueru zo hāto! Moetsukiru hodo hīto!! Kizamu zo, ketsueki no bīto!). It is a devastating and extremely rapid flurry of Ripple-infused punches with power comparable to the sun itself and has the ability to completely obliterate the Undead.

Alongside the attacks, the Ripple has various other uses in combat. A skilled Ripple user such as Jonathan has the ability to walk on water, strengthen objects and increase their potency, increase jumping height, and much more. Healing One of the main conveniences of the Ripple is the ability to heal the body to an extent. During his battle with Doobie, Jonathan was able to eject poison out of his bloodstream via Ripple transfusion. During his battle with Tarkus, he was also able to heal his broken neck after receiving the Supreme Pass Overdrive from Zeppeli.

Luck and Pluck (幸運ラックと勇気プラック kōunRakku to YūkiPurakku): After his defeat, Brufordgave Jonathan his sword, which played a major role in the final battle against Dio, where Jonathan was able to counter Dio's freezing ability by infusing the sword with Ripple, in order to avoid direct contact with Dio's body.

Hermit Purple-like Stand were due to a Stand power that awoke in Jonathan's body, Similar to Hermit Purple, it can produce a psychic photograph by smashing a camera, which Dio used to track the Joestars and their friends's current location to send Stand Users after them.

(4) APPEARANCE

As an adult, Jonathan is a tall (195 cm/6'5"), extremely muscular individual with a gentlemen's poise. His typical attire tends to reflect his noble background, characterized by stylized tunics over long sleeve shirts. Reoccurring articles of clothing include a cravat, bow tie, thick boots and a vest. At home, Jonathan wears semi-formal attire consisting of a collared shirt, tie, and jacket with rolled up sleeves. During University Rugby matches, he wears a standard striped rugby shirt and pants with long socks. When he sets out to Ogre Street to find a cure for his father's illness, Jonathan dons an entirely new outfit made up of a padded jacket and pants, complete with a deerstalker cap and a long cloak. During his training with Zeppeli, he strips down to a stylized tank top with wristbands, and at some point a circlet.On his quest to Windknight's Lot, Jonathan dons a double layered tunic with a bowtie and Deerstalker cap. After his fight with Tarkus, he wears a close-fitted tank top with capped sleeves for the rest of the journey. In the anime, these sleeves are converted into shoulder pads. During his honeymoon and final encounter with Dio, he wears an ornate suit with a long tail over a collared shirt with straps on the shoulders, and a cravat. 4/5

After finally defeating Dio, Jonathan watches as he falls from the tower into the unknown disintegrating piece by piece. Shedding a tear for his corrupt brother... Even though Dio had hurt Jonathan in the worst way possible, he would always have a special place in his heart. This action would prove that Jonathan was too pure for this world. 5/5

Records of the Three Kingdoms 27: Biography of Hu Zhi

This Hu Zhi

胡質字文德，楚國壽春人也。少與蔣濟、朱績俱知名於江、淮間，仕州郡。蔣濟爲別駕，使見太祖。太祖問曰：「胡通達，長者也，寧有子孫不？」濟曰：「有子曰質，規模大略不及於父，至於精良綜事過之。」太祖即召質爲頓丘令。縣民郭政通於從妹，殺其夫程他，郡吏馮諒繫獄爲證。政與妹皆耐掠隱抵，諒不勝痛，自誣，當反其罪。質至官，察其情色，更詳其事，檢驗具服。

Hu Zhi, styled Wende, was a native of Shouchun county in the Chu princely fief (Jiujiang commandary). As a young man, he was equally famous in the region between the Yangzi and the Huai River as Jiang Ji and Zhu Ji (Shi Ji), and he served in the local commandary and province.

When Jiang Ji was appointed as Assistant Officer With Separate Carriage (for the province), he was sent to meet with Cao Cao. Cao Cao asked him, "Hu Tongda (Hu Min) was an excellent fellow. Surely he has some sons or grandsons?"

Jiang Ji replied, "He has a son named Hu Zhi. When it comes to coming up with grand plans and strategies, Hu Zhi is not the equal of his father. But when it comes to sheer excellence and the ability to weave events together, he surpasses his father."

Cao Cao thus summoned Hu Zhi to serve as Prefect of Dunqiu.

In Dunqiu, a native of the county, Guo Zheng, had illicit relations with his cousin and killed her husband Cheng Ta. A commandary official, Feng Liang, bound and imprisoned them and examined them. But Guo Zheng and his cousin so stoically endured the questioning and revealed nothing that Feng Liang, overcome by grief, felt that he was the one who in the wrong and was going to pardon them. Yet when Hu Zhi arrived at his post, he witnessed the lewd looks between the two of them and investigated further into their affairs, and so he brought things back into proper order.

〈案〈胡氏譜〉：通達名敏，以方正徵。〉

(According to the Registry of the Hu Clan, Hu Min's style name was Tongda. He was a just, proper, and correct fellow.)

入爲丞相東曹議令史，州請爲治中。將軍張遼與其護軍武周有隙。遼見刺史溫恢求請質，質辭以疾。遼出謂質曰：「僕委意於君，何以相辜如此？」質曰：「古人之交也，取多知其不貪，奔北知其不怯，聞流言而不信，故可終也。武伯南身爲雅士，往者將軍稱之不容於口，今以睚眦之恨，乃成嫌隙。況質才薄，豈能終好？是以不願也。」遼感言，復與周平。

Hu Zhi came to the capital to serve as a Consultant-Clerk in the Eastern Bureau of the Prime Minister's staff. His home province then requested him to serve as an Internal Director.

At this time, the general Zhang Liao was on bad terms with his Protector-General, Wu Zhou. Thus when Zhang Liao came to see the Inspector, Huan Hui, he asked to have Hu Zhi come serve on his staff. But Hu Zhi declined, citing illness. Zhang Liao then came to see him and said, "Sir, I had placed all my hopes in you. Will you leave me to stew like this?"

Hu Zhi replied, "The ancients understood their companions very well. Though someone obtained much, people knew he was not greedy; though someone fled north, people knew he was no coward; though rumors and loose talk spread, people knew not to trust them. Thus their friendships endured. As for me, I know well that Wu Bonan (Wu Zhou) is a refined gentleman. Yet recently, General, I have heard that you have not been able to put up with him. If I indulge you and continue to let you bare the fangs and glares of hatred, that would only seal the enmity between you. Besides, I am a man of meager talents, so how could I do you any good? That is why I was not willing to join you."

Zhang Liao was moved by his words, and he patched things up with Wu Zhou.

〈虞預《晉書》曰：周字伯南，沛國竹邑人。位至光祿大夫。子陔，字元夏。陔及二弟韶、茂，皆總角見稱，並有器望，雖鄉人諸父，未能覺其多少。時同郡劉公榮，名知人，嘗造周。周謂曰：「卿有知人之明，欲使三兒見卿，卿爲目高下，以效郭、許之聽可乎？」公榮乃自詣陔兄弟，與共言語，觀其舉動。出語周曰：「君三子皆國士也。元夏器量最優，有輔佐之風，展力仕宦，可爲亞公。叔夏、季夏，不減常伯、納言也。」陔少出仕宦，歷職內外，泰始初爲吏部尚書，遷左僕射、右光祿大夫、開府儀同三司，卒於官。陔以在魏已爲大臣，本非佐命之數，懷遜讓，不得已而居位，故在官職，無所荷任，夙夜思恭而已。終始全潔，當世以爲美談。韶歷二官吏部郎。山濤啟事稱韶清白有誠，終於散騎常侍。茂至侍中、尚書。潁川荀愷，宣帝外孫，世祖姑子，自負貴戚，要與茂交。茂拒而不荅，由是見怒。元康元年，楊駿被誅。愷時爲尚書僕射，以茂駿之姨弟，陷爲駿黨，遂枉見殺，衆咸冤痛之。〉

(Regarding Wu Zhou, Yu Yu's version of the Book of Jin contains this biography of him and his sons: "Wu Zhou, styled Bonan, was a native of Zhuyi county in the Pei princely fief. He rose in office as high as Household Counselor. His son was Wu Gai, styled Yuanxia. Wu Gai and his younger brothers Wu Shao and Wu Mao were all intelligent and clever and received acclaim. They all showed great promise, but none of the elders of their town were able to properly analyze their potential.

At that time, there was a native of the same commandary, a certain Liu Gongrong, who was famous for being able to appraise people. On one occasion, he came to visit Wu Zhou. Wu Zhou said to him, 'Sir, you're well-known for your wisdom in appraising people, so I wish to present my three sons to you. Will you not look them up and down and see how well they might live up to the examples of Guo and Xu?'

Liu Gongrong then went to visit Wu Gai and his brothers; he spoke with them and observed their posture and movements. After leaving them, he told Wu Zhou, 'Your three sons are all good gentlemen of state. Yuanxia has the most outstanding potential; he is suited to serve as a regent of the state, and if he develops his strength and serves in office, he may be called an elder statesman. As for Shuxia and Jixia, they shall be no less than Constant Companions (Palace Attendants) or Receivers of Words (Masters of Writing).'

Wu Gai went out to take up office while he was still young, and he served in successive posts both within the court and without. By the beginning of the Taishi reign era (~265), he had become Personnel Director of the Masters of Writing. He later became Deputy Director of the Left and Household Counselor of the Right, and he was granted the privilege of a Separate Office with equal ceremonial to the Three Excellencies. He passed away in office. Wu Gai had already become a great minister even during the Cao-Wei dynasty, but he had never really wished to hold such high posts. He often cherished the thought of resigning his offices, but was unable to do so and thus was compelled to serve. Thus, although he held many posts, he could never bear the responsibilities of his offices; day and night, he did no more than ponder respect. From beginning to end, he remained absolutely pure, and the people of his time all spoke highly of him.

Wu Shao served in two offices as a Gentleman in the Personnel Bureau. At that time, Shan Tao was in charge of recruiting and appointing many people. He commended Wu Shao as a pure, honest, and earnest man, so in the end Wu Shao became a Cavalier In Regular Attendance.

Wu Mao rose in office as high as a Palace Attendant and a Master of Writing. Xun Kai of Yingchuan commandary, who was Sima Yi's grandson by a daughter and Sima Yan's cousin, considered himself to possess a fine lineage. He sought to make connections with Wu Mao, but Wu Mao rebuffed him and would not respond. Xun Kai thus held a grudge against him. In the first year of Yuankang (291), during the coup against Yang Jun, Xun Kai was serving as Deputy Director of the Masters of Writing. Since Wu Mao was Yang Jun's brother-in-law, Xun Kai slandered him as being one of Yang Jun's partisans, and he had him beaten to death. Everyone believed he was innocent and felt grief for him.")

太祖辟爲丞相屬。黃初中，徙吏部郎，爲常山太守，遷任東莞。士盧顯爲人所殺，質曰：「此士無讎而有少妻，所以死乎！」悉見其比��年少，書吏李若見問而色動，遂窮詰情狀��若即自首，罪人斯得。每軍功賞賜，皆散之於衆，無入家者。在郡九年，吏民便安，將士用命。

Cao Cao recruited Hu Zhi to serve as a direct subordinate on the Prime Minister's staff.

During the Huangchu reign era (220-226), Hu Zhi was transferred to serve as a Gentleman of the Personnel Bureau. He was then appointed as Administrator of Changshan, then transferred to be Administrator of Dongguan.

A local gentry figure, Lu Xian, was killed by someone. Hu Zhi mused, "This fellow had no enemies. It was because of his young wife that he was killed!" So he looked around for young people living nearby. When he questioned the clerk Li Ruo, Li Ruo seemed to display lewd movements. Hu Zhi thus fully put him to the question, and Li Ruo confessed to the crime. The guilty man was thus apprehended.

Whenever Hu Zhi achieved some military accomplishment and was distributing rewards, he always spread the rewards out among his soldiers and never kept any for his own family. Hu Zhi served in Dongguan for nine years. The officials and the people there knew peace, and the generals and officers were useful and obeyed his orders.

遷荊州刺史，加振威將軍，賜爵關內侯。吳大將朱然圍樊城，質輕軍赴之。議者皆以爲賊盛不可迫，質曰：「樊城卑下，兵少，故當進軍爲之外援；不然，危矣。」遂勒兵臨圍，城中乃安。遷征東將軍，假節都督青、徐諸軍。廣農積糓，有兼年之儲，置東征臺，且佃且守。又通渠諸郡，利舟楫，嚴設備以待敵。海邊無事。

Hu Zhi was then transferred to be Inspector of Jingzhou; he was further appointed as General Who Spreads Awe and as a Marquis Within The Passes. When the great Wu general Zhu Ran besieged Fancheng, Hu Zhi led light troops to come reinforce the city. People all told Hu Zhi that the enemy army was so numerous that he could not actually threaten them. But Hu Zhi replied, "It is precisely because Fancheng is a meager city with a small garrison that I must advance my forces to bring it relief. Otherwise, it will be in danger." So he ordered his troops to approach the enemy siege lines, and those within the city thus settled down.

Hu Zhi was promoted to General Who Conquers The East, Credential Holder, and Commander of military affairs in Qingzhou and Xuzhou. He expanded farming efforts there and accumulated grain, such that there were local stores of several years of grain. He also established a Bureau of Eastern Conquest, where the soldiers alternated between farming and guarding. Hu Zhi also carved out a canal through several commandaries in order to improve boat traffic, and he prepared strict defenses to hold off any enemies. The sea coast saw no trouble.

性沈實內察，不以其節檢物，所在見思。嘉平二年薨，家無餘財，惟有賜衣書篋而已。軍師以聞，追進封陽陵亭侯，邑百戶，謚曰貞侯。子威嗣。六年，詔書褒述質清行，賜其家錢糓。語在〈徐邈傳〉。威，咸熈中官至徐州刺史，有殊績，歷三郡守，所在有名。卒於安定。

Hu Zhi was a man of profound substance and introspection, and he did not abuse his authority, so he was seen as a considerate man.

Hu Zhi passed away in the second year of Jiaping (250). His home had no excess wealth; he left behind only a chest of clothing and books. When the Directing-Instructor (Sima Yi?) heard of his death, he posthumously promoted Hu Zhi to Marquis of Yangling District, with a fief of a hundred households, and granted him the posthumous title Marquis Zhen ("the Faithful"). His son Hu Wei succeeded him.

In the sixth year of Jiaping (254), an edict was issued praising Hu Zhi for his life of pure conduct, and his family was granted money and grain. This is further mentioned in the Biography of Xu Miao.

As for Hu Wei, by the Xianxi reign era (264-265) he had risen in office to be Inspector of Xuzhou. He had had an outstanding career, having served as Administrator in three commandaries, and he enjoyed a good reputation. He passed away in Anding commandary.

From the user SylvaViaFleuret on this really interesting Reddit thread, I compiled all of the old/unused/pending Lunafreya content that won't/hasn't made its way into the final game. Some seem to be scrapped ideas, while others like Luna's battle content where added with updates as recently as the royal edition! This really perks up interest since Episode Luna was announced to be released next year so... maybe they have already started to place content in? :D

Noctis is catching up after the 10 year gap. What about the world? What about Ardyn? Is everyone waiting for him (Noctis)? Will you be a god? Will you be a king? Will you be a normal person? (Confusion about this decision) I'll die after this? But if you do not, how do you live? (Repeats the same question as before). A flashback from Umbra of Lunafreya in Tenebrae, prior to leaving for Insomnia. She expresses that she'd like to be with Noctis once more. Noctis is encouraged to go to the throne, and to defeat Ardyn. Asked once more for what path will be taken (choice prompt box likely here), and then makes a comment about finishing it all. ※ Note: Don't take this as being perfect, take it as rough notes. Still reading through more of what you sent. I have spaced the lines out a little easier to read as well.

Noctis discusses seeing things through, including apologizing to Lunafreya. Ardyn discusses being Noctis' ancestor, and then discusses the past. 「兄弟」 is getting used instead of a singular as seen in some of his retail lines, or the "Lucian King" comment from Ardyn, and that he mentions a lack of respect. The colour black being an important and/or formal colour of Lucis is brought up, and that the Crystal wasn't the current colour it is now, but rather a pure blue. (The standard Final Fantasy crystal colour). The crystal's colour changed when Ardyn touched it, or at least so it would seem. Discusses his immortality briefly. Ifrit shows up, there's some chatter in there. A comment about a puzzled ad-lib (voice over) is left within brackets, and then there's the lines for after Ifrit. However, Ardyn is now on the throne and it is here that he introduces himself by his official name of Ardyn Lucis Caelum, and reinforces his intentions. ※ Note: This is really weird to me, I don't see why some of this is gone. Same as before, just rough notes as I'm not doing the whole thing properly.

Chatter about gathering to prepare, including contacting Meldacio Hunter HQ. Noctis calls, and it is confirmed that Cor has been captured by the Nifilheim Army. There is a newspaper that has a headline of Cor's execution across it. What are you gonna do? A strategy to rescue Cor. There won't be any action without any verified information, and as per usual they will gather intelligence and draft a strategy. Comments about being lucky to have escaped an explosion at the North Duscaen Blockade means that this is Loqi, and his survival was to be brought up more-so than suddenly appearing with Caligo. It's a trap, and being regarded as a rematch. More preparation chatter, as well as the radio broadcast from Ravus about the blockade, the earthquakes and Insomnia. Noctis intends to go into the base alone, and then it goes into the next part. There's another one after, and that whilst troops are being deployed both Noctis, and Prompto are mentioned by name as being involved in things. Verstael's research is being tested again. At the end, there's a comment about the recapture and/or recovery of Insomnia being close. Then it goes into there being a roar sound near Noctis, and Leviathan appears. Noctis mentions this being a trial and/or Revelation, and that he accepts it. Then the following text goes into a jumble instead of being structured properly like the rest above. Not sure if this is exactly the same as Chapter 9, so I would recommend checking it after the fact.

What proof do we have that Lady Lunafreya is in the government's care? You mistrust Camelia, and I don't blame you. But ask yourself this: Why would they open the Hydraean's altar, which is of no good to them without the Oracle? Of course, it's "no good" they'll be up to, letting her summon the Hydraean to a military massacre. There IS this one thing that's been on my mind. Cool if I ask? Go for it. So, what's the "Serpent's Rage?" An old sailor's tale we might see for ourselves. In short, the Sea Goddess wrought havoc before entering her forced slumber. Perhaps she slept it off, or perhaps not—an "unsettling" prospect for politicians. They'll guard Lady Lunafreya, so long as you fight off the imperial army, yes? That's the long and short of it. You must think it a fool's errand. Yet it is a gambit, not pure sacrifice—they wager that you will claim the might of the Hydraean. Lady Lunafreya is loved and revered. Turning her over to the empire would amount to political suicide, but that hardly stops them from using her for leverage. All is fair in love and war, particularly if it turns out you can bring true peace. This is not the utopia Insomnia was. Here, each acts only in his own best interests. We stand divided against an empire that has come to bear down upon us, much as it did Lucis. Your heart is yours to follow. Just see to it that you proceed with caution. Should you ever need it, Maagho is at your disposal. As am I, of course. Sleep well, lads. Well, guess we need to go give her our decision. Like there was any other option. So long as the empire is involved, our choices will be made for us.

Tragic...yet were the bond to be severed... The Oracle is not your concern. ...the world would be the daemons' for the taking. Your presence is not required. And then there's this. My arm, what of it? The pitiable fate of one spurned by the light... And you wished only to be its champion. Meanwhile that recalcitrant vagabond is chosen. I understand more than you can know. You do seem rather...well-acquainted. Acquaintances are the means by which I keep an ear to the ground and an eye on the heavens. One doesn't live to my age without making a few friends. We suffered great losses slaying the Archaean, and this battle should prove no different. Should the chancellor insist on staying, I must insist on appointing guardsmen for your safety. Whilst preparing for departure, Cor appeared at Caem. He apologized to Noctis about being unable to protect Regis, but Cid states that it was Regis' own choice in the matter, and that when Noctis is faced with certain difficulties to rely on his friends.

The next morning, the group head out and are sent off by Iris and Talcott. To obtain the power of the Water Goddess Leviathan -- to gain the power to defeat the empire -- though, also to reunite with Luna who is already in Altissia.

Angelgard, so strongly protected that none may enter, not even Ardyn. Noctis continues to wait collecting moonlight for the Ring, earnestly hoping for the safety of both his friends, and the world.

When the moon has all but disappeared, an exit appears within the prison, and he hears the voice of a god that says "The time has come". By the time Noctis has gotten all of the power of the star, and has left the prison finally, ten years have passed within the world.

Gaius: That’s not really what I said at all. Aren’t you being overly self-conscious?

ガイアさんなんて波打ち際で海水にまみれて

Robin: What did you just say…!? No matter how you look at it, that’s not what I meant at all! Fine, please, just do what you want! To think that I bothered to worry about you and come over here… I hope you get covered in seawater on the beach and it leaves you with a salty memory of your time here!*

*This pun worked well enough in translation, but I want to make an extra note to help get the full original meaning across. “Shoppai omoide” literally means “salty memory,” but is a saying that means to a “bad/difficult/painful experience/memory.” I think the writers intended for both the literal and figurative meanings to apply here. Made me giggle at least.

I added “of your time here” in the English because leaving it at just “salty memory” sounded a bit awkward to me.

Joker Game Novel Translations: Book 4, Chapter 1 "Valkyrie" - Part 2 of 13

And here we’re back to the second appointment in which I allow translator engines to try to make sense of @great-blaster transcription of the Japanese text of Valkyrie (you can find the link in the notes of this message if you’re interested).

As usual I remember you all translators engine don’t really do a great work in regard to translating things perfectly, and that even if I tried to at least smooth the English a bit and to fix the sentences that were really impossible to understand, my knowledge of Japanese is really so low it’s not worth mentioning so I might have messed up more often than not…

Still, if you feel like meeting up Itsumi Gorō and Yukimura Kōichi in the Germany of December 1939 (yes, the one in which Miyoshi was working as well!) please enjoy this chapter and, please, if you spot mistakes you’re free to come hit me in the head with the right translation. I don’t mind.

Again a lot of thanks to @great-blaster who provided the original transcription and to @unnagi whose summary helped me to figure where this was going when Google translate was being particularly uncooperative.

Please feel free to imagine your favorite story. That is one of the pleasure of movies." 「フム、そんなものかね」 "Hm, is that it?" 実業家風の男性は何だか騙されたような納得のいかない顔でふたたび葉巻をくわえた。 The businessman-like man resumed smoking his cigar with an unconvinced expression, as if he felt as if they were deceiving him. 男の連れの瘦せたご婦人が、逸見をじろじろと眺めて訊ねた。 The lady who had accompanied that man looked at Itsumi carefully before making her question. 「貴方、映画の中より年上に見えるわね。本当はおいくつなの？」 "You look older than in the movie, how old are you?" 「二十八、と言っておきましょうか」 "Shall I tell you? I’m twenty eight." 「それは今回の映画の主人公、ゼン・トーゴーの設定でしょう？わたしが訊いているのは、貴方の本当の年齢よ」 "Isn’t it the set age for the main character of this movie, Zen Togo? It’s your true age what I am asking you." 「弱りましたね」 "I’m hurt." 逸見は苦笑しながら、左右を見回した。 Itsumi smiled bitterly, looked around at his left and right. 周囲に集まった者たち全員が答えを待っている顔付きだ。 All the people gathered around him had the expression of being waiting for an answer. 「では、みなさん。ここだけの秘密ですよ」 "Well, everyone. A real spy is not a beautiful boy like Stefan ---, I mean, it seems that the person who becomes a person must not be a glamorous person in the first place. " 「スパイが？」 "A spy can’t be as such? " 「美男子であってはいけない？」 "It can’t be a beautiful boy? First of all, it is to secretly search confidential information that the enemy is keeping secret and secretly bring them back home without being noticed by the other person. Why would one bother to pay for such a movie and who would come to see it? So, in the movies, spies are daredevils, strong during fights and also naturally popular with women. They have to be. Why? It is because everyone in the audience wants a spy to be attractive. Yes, the movie is made for you. Everyone, thank you for listening. ハイエイタス相変わらず最高だったし伊澤さんがルンルンで踊ってて楽しそうでなによりでした笑好きな曲全部やってくれたよ、幸せが過ぎるよ、私にとって数年ぶりのShimmerは武道館発表の時の多幸感を思い出せたし、その時その時の思い出が詰まった曲だから色んな感情を思い出すことができて幸せだった

Radioも嬉しかったなぁ。イントロの鍵盤の美しさ。「雨の日に傘を差さずに帰ったことがある。傘は持ってたのに。傘なんて差して何の意味があるんだと思ってた」なんて話す細美さんから悲壮感は全く感じられなくて、今になって笑い話にできていることが何よりだと思ったし不思議と背中を押された。

LittleOdyssey→Antibiotic→Something ever afterの流れがすごく好きだった……Antibioticは音源だとフェードアウトだけど、ライブだと細美さんが自慢していた「どこまでも続く一葉のピアノ」がちゃんと最後まで聴けるんだなって。ひたすら美しかった。LittleOdysseyはSAIの時に散々言ったから割愛！

My Own Worst Enemyも久しぶりに聴けて嬉しかった……嬉しいがたくさん笑武道館以来なのかな？堀江さんとは全く違うアプローチをする伊澤さんのピアノで聴くこの曲が大好きなんだけど、今回も短い間奏で魅せてて最高でした。なんであんなに曲に入り込めるのか。得意技をふんだんに詰め込んだ1小節。

SAIの時も思ったけどTheFlare→StormRacers→Monkeysの鉄板の流れは本当に本当にカッコいい！！Monkeysの時にフラフラ立って踊る伊澤さんが大好きだし、お客さんのテンションがMAXなのもめちゃくちゃ楽しくて……曲の流れをいっさい切らないこの怒涛さは一種の快感だよなと思う。

Bonfireはいつも思うけどなんであんなにドラムがハチャメチャなのにピアノとズレないの？激ムズなリフを鍵盤一切見ないで弾く伊澤さんが流石だった…楽しそうに歌って踊る細美さんはUnhurtやThirstでも見られて大好きなんだけど、この曲の細美さんは「俺達かっけぇだろ！？」って言ってるみたいで大好き！

紺碧は今回もすごく楽しくて幸せでした。「満天の星空も冬の日の夕闇も」の裏で伊澤さんが弾いてる音源にはないフレーズが大好きなんだけど、今回もそれが聴けてめちゃくちゃ嬉しかったし間奏で内向きに円になる5人はやっぱり最高に楽しそうでキラキラと輝いてて羨ましいくらいだった。一種の青春だよね！

私たちお客さんを見渡して仲間だと言ってくれる細美さんと、そのあとにいつも演奏してくれるSilver Birchが大好きなんだけど、もううう楽しくて楽しくてなんも覚えてない笑最後の「すたぁ↑あああああ��〜ず」で曲が終わって会場中が拍手喝采になる瞬間が好きすぎて幸せすぎて感無量……好き……

最後はWアンコールでベテルギウス。紺碧、SilverBirchを演奏した日はやらない印象だったからすごくすごく嬉しくて思わず「わあああ！」って叫んだ！よ！この曲もBメロ?裏の音源にはない伊澤さんのダンサブルなバッキングが大好きで、それ聴いてテンションあがったままサビに突入できたから幸せでした。

白眉はThe Tower and The Snakeだなぁ！伊澤さんverで聴いたの初めてだし(色々やってた！)、照明がめちゃくちゃ凝っててすごかった。序盤はパッパッと変わってた照明がゆっくり回るようになる箇所があって、彼らが時間の流れを意図的に遅くしてるんじゃないかと錯覚するくらいでした。すごかった。

TheFlareかな？間奏でマサがギターを掲げたんだけど、そのギターに照明がバッて集まった瞬間があって最高にかっこよかったし思わず笑ってしまった笑大きな会場でギターだけを照らす照明。Let Me FallはストリングスパートをNordで鳴らしてて機械的なストリングスもいいなぁって。

SunburnのAメロの伊澤さんが最高なんだ……音源にもあるけど左手の低音(D)が会場中に響き渡ってて圧巻だったのと弾き方がとにかくノリノリで楽しそうで私が幸せだった……大サビ前にほんの一瞬だけ静かになって「So please stop」って歌う箇所は照明が細美さんだけを照らしてて綺麗だった……

Cloneはグランドピアノだと自力でディレイをかけた弾き方をしてたと思うんだけど(人力ディレイ笑)Nordだとボタンで一発だから割と弾きやすそうに見えたなぁ。冒頭のボーカルもディレイをかけてたんだけど、歌声を追っかける演出が凄くよかった。コードが変わらないから濁らずに美しいままなんだなって

コードが変わらないというかおんなじところをぐるぐる回ってるから追っかけさせても違和感ないんだろうなぁ。ボーカルにディレイかけて追っかけさせるのはブルーノートでもやってたやつ！

說說耶路薩冷大衛塔Talking about...David Tower,Jerusalem

我們可以在考古學上追溯耶路薩冷的起源歷史到西元前5,000多年，然而我在這裡的旅程並不是要做研究，如果我對行程景點增加一點背景知識，總是覺得有趣。今年，我單獨在耶路薩冷停留了5天，雖然不是長到可以成為它的一部分，但是已經足夠讓我好好遊玩這個古老都市了。何況，本來就不可能有足夠時間道盡耶路薩冷的故事，因為耶路薩冷是非常、非常、非常、非常的古老，一切的一切，都要從西元前3,200年，有初次出現固定的人類居民開始.......

We can trace Jerusalem's history back to 5,000 B.C. in archaeology.But my journey in Jerusalem was not for studies.It's for spiritual fun,and it's always fun to add some knowledge to my tours.This year,I had spent 5 days in Jerusalem solely.It was not long to become a part of this city,but long enough for me to enjoy this ancient city.Besides,it would never have enough time to tell its stories,because Jerusalem is very,very,very,very old.It all started from original residence in 3,200 B.C.....

不管怎樣我總得先找個地方住，耶路薩冷是很貴的，一條牙膏就快台幣198元，大馬士革門那邊的阿拉伯市集應該會比較便宜一點，可是我選住接近雅法門比較方便一點。No matter what goes,I need to settle down first,but Jerusalem is an expensive city.I spent NT$198 for a toothpast there ,and that really sucked.I chose to live near Jaffa Gate,though prices at the Arabic market that neared Damascus Gate was cheaper.

基督教青年會(YMCA)的協力機構-三拱門飯店，是我停留期間住的飯店，飯店本身就是受保護的古蹟，我選這裡是因為飯店有著古典氣質、良好的管理、優良的服務，還有最重要的是，比附近同業便宜的價格、地點也很理想去逛舊城區，用走的就可以，除此之外，飯店本身有一項好處，它的高塔可以鳥瞰整個耶路薩冷舊城。然而，我從一樓的櫃台得知，如果我要上去，要事先通知他們，因為幾年前有個女的跳樓死了(不會是鬧鬼吧?)，他們也怕我會跳下去..."什麼咚咚....!!!"，哈哈哈哈~

Hotel Three Arches is affilicated to YMCA.It itself is enlisted as a cultural asset needed to be protected. I chose here as my accommodaton during my stay,because it was classic,well-managed,nice service,and most importantly,it was less expensive compared to others nearby,and its location was very ideal for me to visit Old Town on foot. Addition to all that,its tower has an adventage to make panoramic view of Jerusalem. However,I had learnt from ground receptionists.They told me if I wanted to go up to the top,I needed to inform them first.Because there was a girl committed suicide few years ago(So...was it haunted ?).They were afraid that I might jump also...."What the F*** !!",hahahaha.

讓我回到主題大衛王和大衛塔。 "大衛"據我所知，依照聖經說法，並不是他的真名，好像是Elhanan才是，不管怎樣，他將支持他的以色列南方派系，和北方敵對派系統一的人(七年戰爭)，大衛王在歷史上是真有其人，事實上，他也殺了很多人，也犯過通姦，他並不完美，我想以現今的眼光看比較像政客一類，是一個掌握了"神聖約櫃"並以此獲得政治目的的領袖(也是"大衛王"有著"聖王"形象的關鍵，今天誰不需要?)，利用"上帝"之名行政治目的在歷史上沒甚麼特別的，宮殿就是大衛塔所在地，也是權力的生死競技場。

Let me back to King David and his tower. "David" as I know is not his real name,"Elhanan" might be according to Bibble.Anyway,he was the one who united Israeli tribes(his southern supporters,and northern opponents- 7 years War).King David is a real person in history,who also killed ,murdered many men,and he commited adultery.He was not perfect.I think he was a standard politician in today's eyes.A man who used Holy "Ark" as a tool to gain political purposes(That's why " King David" needed image of "Holy King",who wouldn't today?)...It is not unique and nothing at all,to see political leaders in history using "God" as a political weapon.His palace is where the Tower locates,where was the arena of going on "live or die" for power.

這個人大家很熟吧?對啦，他就是殺了歌利亞巨人後成名的大衛 ,米開朗基羅的名作，大衛像，沒錯，這件著名的雕像是根據年輕時的大衛(王)形象作的，當然，是虛構的創作，米開朗基羅描繪的是，年輕的大衛(未成王之前)在戰場上，挑戰非利士人戰士時的臉部表情。而我的大衛收藏是一件有大衛圖像的圍兜，在義大利街頭買的，一條好像5、6歐元。。

We all feel him acquainted.Yep ! He was the one who got famous after killing Goliath, the Giant.Michelangelo's masterpiece.Yes,this famous statue is based on young David's image.It's fictional,of course.Michelangelo depicted young David's facial expression,when he challenged enemy's worrier (Philistines)in battle field. And my collection for David is a piece of apron,hahaha.The apron I spent 6 Euros in Italy.

大衛王這個人很有音樂才能，也很懂政治，他利用"約櫃"的政治效力不餘遺力，當重新由非利士人手中奪回"約櫃"後，為了��祝此事，還裸露上身在祭壇上跳舞，引來老婆的訕笑，他崇敬"約櫃"並將之極端神聖化，有搬櫃工人(烏撒)不小心碰觸到約櫃，當場就被活活打死，因此約櫃必需放在很好的地方才行，所以開始建設"聖殿"，就是今日的"聖殿山"，這些政治效應不但使得大衛王有神聖的約櫃罩他，也因聖殿山的建設，確立了耶路薩冷在歷史上"聖城"的地位。

King David had a musical talent,and knew politics very much.He used "Ark" to gain political benefit with all his power.At the time,when he regained Ark from the hands of Philistines(ancient Greeks alike).He danced half nude in front of alter where ark placed to celebrate the event,which was mocked by his wife.However,he kept consecrating the status of Ark to the extreme.So, a serviceman(Uzzah) accidently touched the Ark, as one of the bulls tripped (using bulls to pull cart when transporting Ark around).Then,Uzzah immediately was struck to die right at the spot.Thus,the Ark needed a safe place for storing.Then,he ordered to build "Holy Palace" for the Ark.The place is today's Mount Temple.This political order(building Mount Temple) not only secured his leadership,with the ark backed him,but also made Jerusalem secured the status as a "Holy City" in mankind history from that time on.

神聖約櫃(法櫃)，已經遺失，所以這是後人依想像複製的櫃。The ARK,lost,thus,this was created by imagination.

西元前587年因為戰爭(巴比倫入侵)就已經不見了，所以，沒人知道現在在哪裡，有人說落在以色列手中了,如果你走運找到約櫃，記得不要亂碰哦，不然會被神立刻處死滴。有兩位信天使守衛著約櫃，約櫃上蓋上面有翅膀的，並不是什麼鳥，好嗎?

It was lost at war(Babylon) in 587 B.C.E.So,no one knows where it is now.Some say,it is in the hands of Israel.Well.......

Oh,Do not touch the Ark,or you'll be killed by GOD instantly.Well~if you happen to find it. There are two angels guarding the Ark.They are not birds on the top of the Ark's top lid.

今天的大衛塔是理想的音樂會、夜間秀、和博物館展示場。但是博物館不允許觀光客拍攝戶外夜間燈光秀，夜間秀在宮殿庭院傾頹的牆壁以投射動畫展出，如果有來，真的不要錯過。Today,it is an ideal place for music concerts,night shows,and museum exhibitions.But,it prohibits tourists taking photos or videos of the outdoor light show.The night show displays in the courtyard of Tower David,by projecting animation on the walls.Seeing the show at the very right site is a fantastic experience.If you come,don't miss it.

第一聖殿的完成並未使猶太人從此安居樂業，他們的近代史也非常令人難過，戰爭只有製造悲劇，如果以、巴能夠記取歷史教訓，可以和平相處、相愛，這才是大衛王立國該有的期盼。The completion of the First Temple didn’t make Jewishes live happily ever after.Their modern history makes me very sad,for wars only create tradegies,which providing a livid lesson for all humans to remember.If today’s Israel and Palestine could learn from the past,and started to live and love each other,it would be King David’s true expectation when he started the establishement of a nation.
