インラインSVGのpathタグの描画で線の両端の開始点と終了点をスムーズに繋げるためにZコマンドが必要だと気付いた

サイト作成でインラインSVGを使うのが初めてで、何がどうなるかも分からなくて大変なんだ。

線を座標から描けるpathタグには様々なコマンドがあるけど、とにかく開始点と終了点を繋ぎ合わせるZコマンドを使うかどうかで、そうした繋ぎ目のデザインが変わるから注意して使わなくてはならないんだ。

終了点を開始点と同じにして線を描いても線の両端が重なるだけで、両端のデザインがそのままで表示されてしまう。Zコマンドをかけると線の両端が繋がって一つの頂点として扱われるようになる。

線の両端の繋ぎ目が別々でも芸術的に味のあるデザインなので、pathタグで線を引く場合には終了点にZコマンドをかけるかどうかで使い分けると良いと思う。

Walked by this name again and realized later I'd already done it, but we are reposting anyway because in this season, all I can think of is a homophone: 蚊取り [かとり], as in 蚊取り線香 [かとりせんこう] mosquito coils! [x]

蚊 means mosquito. It's read か or ブン. The left radical 虫, insect, hints at the meaning, and the right radical, 文, sentence, provides the on-yomi. (The か reading is much more common, though; the only use of ブン I could find was 飛蚊症 [ひぶんしょう] myodesopsia or floaters/spots in one's vision—literally, "flying mosquito illness.")

取 means to take or fetch. It's read と.る, と.り, とり, ど.り, or シュ. The radicals are 耳 ear and 又 again, the latter of which provides the on-yomi.

線 means line or track. It's read すじ or セン. The radicals are 糸 thread and 泉 spring/fountain (both of which are line/track-like, if that helps you remember), and the latter of which provides the on-yomi.

香 means scent, perfume, or incense. It's read か, かお,り, かお,る, コウ, or キョウ. The radicals are 禾 two-branch tree and 日 sun.

Putting it all together, mosquito coils are literally incense (線香 [せんこう] that removes (取る [と.る]; very useful verb!) mosquitos (蚊). I wish I had some; I am so very itchy right now......

Pink hydrangeas after the rain! Today's nameplate reads 香取 Katori or Kandori, with the characters for "aroma" (remember?) and "take." Katori is also the name of a battleship, if you're into that kind of thing.
