What's In a Kanokodome? Part 1

On The Second Day of Fun I present... a new feature! It's only natural that after covering other parts of the maiko's outfit we'd look at this one next ^^

Materials: Silver, Pearls, Coral, and Jade Motif(s): Plovers and Waves Owned By: Katsumi (勝見) in Pontocho Kanokodome are interesting adornments as they're still being made today, unlike their pocchiri counterparts. Many are made from silver, like this example, but they can be made out of almost any material imaginable. Here we see the main symbol of Pontocho on full display: the Chidori (千鳥 - Plover) flying among waves. Plovers are abundant along the shores of the Kamo River that Pontocho backs onto. The pearls and coral beads are likely stand ins for the mythical tide jewels, the Hirutama (千珠 - Ebb Jewel) and Mitsutama (満珠 - Flow Jewel). At the bottom is a piece of bright green jade in the shape of a semicolon known as a Magatama (勾玉). These symbols date back further than recorded history in Japan and have been used as symbols of protection and luck.

May 27th, 2024: Double congratulations are in order (slightly late!). Sayumi (紗友美) of Tsurui (つる居) in Gion Kobu and Ichikoto (市琴) of Katsumi (勝見) in Pontocho are celebrating their erikae! They're the first of four erikae scheduled for two weeks, making this a very busy time for the karyukai. Sayumi will be the last imōto that her onesan Sayaka will see celebrate her erikae as Sayaka is retiring in the coming weeks. Ichikoto, on the other hand, is the second imōto for Ichiraku to have her erikae. Sayumi's outfit features blue waves and cranes while Ichikoto's showcases wonderful treasure ships on waves ^^ おめでとうさんどす紗友美さんと市琴さん ^o^! Images are courtesy of Kyo Katsura Imanishi [1] [2].

もちろん余裕などぶっこいている場合ではない。

そんなこんなでシミュレーターのつもりで俯瞰していると

リアルタイムアタックをしているような気持ちにもなり、

自分の世界にとって

何が些末（さまつ）で何が危険か

冷静に素早く判断する…

自分との勝負にもっていける。
