isle of land - song translation

below are the attempted (figurative!) translations of the two chorus stanzas from the song 〈陆屿〉Isle of Land. this is the closing song for the book 《内娱第一花瓶》's audio drama season one, though you needn't have read the book. i've been listening to this song non-stop the past day and loved the lyrics dearly (the angst!) and so wanted to share it to more. link to song in comments.

你是 灯红酒绿里与他邂逅的岛屿

you are the isle that meets with him, in the debauched and decadent hustling of the city

他是 徘徊时空里让你停泊的陆地

he is the land that tarries in time and space, and lets you dock

时光 在你们之间勾勒了一片海域

用彩虹连在一起，平凡却那么美丽

in course, time sketches a patch of sea between you and him

and joins it together, with a rainbow, simple yet beautiful as it is.

他是 你仰望夜空就能遇见的繁星

he is the multitude of stars you see when you turn your eyes to the night sky

你是 他再努力也无法到达的极地

you are the poles of the earth he could never reach, regardless of how hard he tries

时光 给未来一个拥抱彼此的契机

你吻上了回忆，后来的他吻着你

the passage of time gives their future a chance to embrace each other:

you kiss the memories of it; in the time after, he kisses you.

so there's that. pertinent to the book in ways, the line "poles of the earth he could never reach despite how much harder he tries" hurts so much.

from what i interpret, among the four “you are” and “he is” lines in the song, the first of each stanza is from the MC, and the second from the ML — as such you see the heightened antithesis between the two, with the ML being as stars to the MC, and to the MC the ML is unreachable as the poles of the earth.

and an additional note on the title of the song, 陆 (land) 屿 (island) is a wordplay on the names of the characters, being 柯屿 (kē yŭ) and 商陆 (shāng lù) respectively. a character is taken from each two form the song title (which is incidentally how chinese fandoms usually form ship names). as the way chinese works, in this phrase 陆 can be considered an adjective for 屿, such that 陆屿 together would mean “the island on the land”.
