I think everyone has already seen that short dossier in the court records about Odoroki (Apollo)

The entire Internet managed to laugh at the line "I call him Apollo" (Bro, that's literally his name)

I, in turn, will say that this is the result of unsuccessful localization (for now I'm talking about one specific line, don't swear)

In the original version, a slightly different meaning was embedded under this explanation. Namely, that Naruhodo does not "call him", but "gave him a nickname".

A novice lawyer whom I met by chance. His nickname is Odoroki-kun.

愛称(aisho) - A friendly, affectionate name used to address someone. (syn.) nickname.

In Japan, great importance is attached to friendly names, with their help people show their affection (of course, there are also offensive nicknames, but that's not the topic of the post)

Addressing by last name + warm, friendly suffix -kun shows us a respectful and trusting attitude towards the young lawyer

The dossier was probably entered into the MAISON system after Odoroki started working in Hodo's office, so there was confusion with the content (7 years ago, Odoroki was only 15 years old, he could not have been a lawyer, since he was in school)

Of course, this line is difficult to convey in another language with the same emotions and meaning, so everything was lost again

Yes, the Western world is more accustomed to addressing by name in friendly relations, so this line seemed stupid to everyone, but this was influenced not only by the impossibility of correct adaptation

And also by the way other characters address Odoroki

Minuki treats Odoroki with respect, but at the same time keeps him at a respectful distance. She guards her secrets to the very end and simply could not so quickly trust, essentially, a stranger, even if dad told her about him.

This freedom of adaptation changes Minuki's character and a new character, Trucy, appears (although all players should have approximately the same impression of the characters, after all, we are playing the same game).

She continues to call him the same in AA 5 and 6, probably just to accommodate the age difference (as with other adults)

Translation of Sekai no Owari - Habit

I love this song, and the choreo is fucking crazy. I'll attempt to explain some of the decisions I made in the translation below the cut!

First a little explanation about this song. I have been thinking about my gender for a few years now, and I recently had a few conversations that have made me realise I'm probably agender. My partner showed me this song at the peak of when I was thinking about it the most (she didn't know at the time), and I was shocked at how relevant the lyrics were to my thought process and especially to our relationship. This song means a lot to me, and I felt like I just had to translate it.

Anyway, let's talk translation. I've had a look at some other translations, and mine slightly differs in that I feel I've attempted to convey the core message of the song more strongly than the others. For example:

陰キャ陽キャ "What's your MBTI?"

This line could be translated to something literal like "are you cheerful or gloomy" but I felt it was better to use an english-world equivalent of a popular system of putting people into boxes. Also worth noting that this line is extremely short, and my subtitling software warns you when the amount of time the subtitle appears for is too short, based on how many letters are in it. The translation needed to be like, 3 short words. I'm honestly pretty happy with this, I think it fits well and introduces the premise of the song well.

気付かない本能の外側を 覗いていかない？　気分が乗らない？ Nice dichotomy idiot, what exists outside it?　Wanna take a peek? Not in the mood?

Ok, obviously this isn't a direct translation, but I love that post and this song is basically "nice dichotomy idiot" the song, so I really wanted to work it in somewhere. A literal translation would be like "Won't you peek outside your subconscious instincts?" and I had trouble making that sound song-y in english until I decided to work in the meme.

やってるのにイケないヤツ and the ones using skills they don’t have

The Japanese here is a bit of a double entendre. It could be translated to "people doing stuff who really shouldn't be doing that" (いけない being kind of equivalent to ダメ in such an interpretation), but it could also mean "people who are fucking but can't cum". I tried really hard to work in similar sexual imagery ("the ones who go but don't come"??) but it just didn't work and in the end I just made it mirror the preceding line.

I almost want to say that was the hardest line in the song but that award has to go to this:

大人の俺が言っちゃいけない事言っちゃうけど 説教するってぶっちゃけ快楽 酒の肴にすりゃもう傑作 でもって君も進むキッカケになりゃ

Most adults won’t admit it, but what the hell, Lecturing is such a guilty pleasure This, plus a drink - that's heaven And if this gets you to grow up?

Making this catchy and natural was really tough. I actually stole a bit of the first line from another translation because I liked the way they handled the 大人の俺 part. 酒の肴にすりゃ is also a difficult thing to translate - in the English speaking world we don't really have this idea that food needs to accompany a drink.

But the line I'm most happy with is this:

すぐ世の中金だとか愛だとか運だとか縁だとか なぜ2文字で片付けちゃう��？

It’s all about cash, or love, or luck, or fate How neat, summing up the world in 4 letters.

This wasn't a particularly hard translation to come up with ("love" and "luck" are basically the only translations for those words which locked in "4 letters", and it wasn't hard to find 4 letter words for 金 and 縁), but I was surprised to find that none of the existing translations I could find did this. One went with "Why do you want to wrap it all up with a single word?" and another even further abstracted, "How can it be so simple?"

『日本の「家族の在り方」から大きく外れるような形を認めるのがパートナーシップ制度だと思いますが、そもそもどれだけの人が対象者と言えるのでしょうか。パブコメで賛同多数とするのは拙速ではないでしょうか。区民全員に確認したわけではありません。少なくとも私の周りでは必要としている人はいません。その極小数の方のために条例を作ることにより、大多数である基本的な家族の概念が侵害され、その結果、基本的な家族が壊れていくキッカケになると私は思います。

とても感動的でうれしくて、久しぶりに人とあたたかい気持ちのやり取りができた気がした。

私はいま外で働いてないし、友達ともあまり会ってないし、ネット友達もいなくて、本当にコミュニケーションの機会がないんです。

家族以外の人と直接話したり、メッセージのやり取りをすることがほとんどないの。快適だけど、これでいいのかな…って揺らぐ時もある。

だけど今日みたいなことがあると、機会が少ないからこそ、コミュニケーションのときは誠実な言葉と態度で、真心を込めようって思う。

Touya didn't have a quirk awakening, his is said to be something else but maybe that is why Shouto didn't have one. Because it was given to his brother instead. Only Toga and Ochako get to match with everything as always. I guess you can count Deku and Tomura but I don't really.

This, I guess, refers to my answer to this ask... and, in regard to the Quirk awakening thing, I've discussed it in my THE TODOROKI FAMILY: QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS so I hope if you'll forgive me if I'll just quote the bit I wrote there.

XX WHEN TŌYA DEVELOPED AN ICE QUIRK, DID HE HAVE A QUIRK AWAKENING OR NOT?

For start what is a Quirk awakening (個性覚醒 ‘Kosei kakusei’)?

Basically when a Quirk ‘evolves’, developing new abilities or expanding its ray of actions.

Canonically, among the people who got a Quirk awakening we’ve Toga Himiko (she gained the power to use the Quirk of those she transform into provided she loves them) [Chap. 226], Shigaraki Tomura (his decay can spread to things he didn’t touch provided said things are connected… and he can use it even when not touching things with his five fingers) [Chap. 227], Geten (can manipulate the temperature of ice… though we’ll learn this was an acquired power only when Re-Destro will explain it) [Chap. 234], Bakugō Katsuki (his explosions become stronger and more condensed) [Chap. 285] and Uraraka Ochako (she can make people she hadn’t touched float) [Chap. 394].

The first time we had a Quirk awakening was when Himiko discovered she could use Ochako’s power.

CURIOUS ‘Nande… kanojo no kosei-todokede wa tashika ni gaiken dake to… masaka… ima… nobashita to demo! ? Shi e no kyōfu ga──inō o!!’ キュリオス「何で…彼女の個性届では確かに外見だけと…まさか…今…伸ばしたとでも！？死への恐怖が──異能を！！」 Curious “Why… Her quirk report only mentions (it affects) her appearance… Don’t tell me… She just… strenghtened/developed it!? The fear of death… increased her Meta abilities!!“ [Chap. 226]

Curious blames Himiko’s fear of death for how her Meta ability. Improved (the MLA members call Quirks ‘meta abilities’). It will turn out later though that Himiko was actually on the brink of death and it was only thanks to Jin she survived.

Later, in chap. 394, Himiko will connect what happened to her with what will happens to Uraraka when her Quirk will also evolve, giving her the ability to make people float without touching them… and Himiko will also confirm she was dying when it first happened to her, she wasn’t just scared of doing so.

TOGA HIMIKO ‘(Onaji da…! ano toki no watashi to onaji…! watashi ga shi ni kakete okita koto to!!)’ トガヒミコ「(同じだ…！あの時の私と同じ…！私が死にかけて起きた事と‼)」 Toga Himiko “(It’s the same…!It’s the same as it was with me back then…! The same as what happened when I was dying!!)”

Uraraka too had been stabbed, she’s losing a lot of blood and she’s basically dying.

It’s worth to note Curious doesn’t call it a Quirk awakening. We get the word awakening later, when Shigaraki is fighting Re-Destro.

RE-DESTRO ‘(Futoshita KIKKAKE de inō ga hiyaku suru koto wa, aru. Geten ga kōri no ondo ni kanshō dekiru yō ni natta no mo, tamatama watashi ga yakedo o otte shimatta toki datta. Kono wakamono wa ima, kakusei no sanaka ni…)’ リ・デストロ「(ふとしたキッカケで異能が飛躍することは、ある。外典が氷の温度に干渉できるようになったのも、たまたま私が火傷を負ってしまった時だった。この若者は今、覚醒の最中に…)」 Re-Destro “(Sometimes Meta abilities can suddenly take off. It was just like when I was burned and Geten became able to manipulate the temperature of ice. This young man is in the middle of awakening (his Quirk) now…)” [Chap. 234]

Re-Destro explains in order to use his Meta ability like that Shigaraki should have trained in a harsh environment.

RE-DESTRO ‘(Hayai! Yobi dōsa mo saishōgen, marude neko no yōna shinayakasa! Kore hodo no shintai nōryoku deareba Kanno (read: KAMINO) de HERO no hitori ya futari sawareta rō ni……! Inō no kudan to ī… kitaeta to demo? Shikamo, kono ugoki… Mainichi inochi no yari tori o iki nuku yōna kakokuna kankyō de nakereba mi ni tsukanu HAZU.)’ リ・デストロ「(速い！予備動作も最小限、まるで猫のようなしなやかさ！これ程の身体能力であれば神野(カミノ)でヒーローの一人や二人触れたろうに……！異能の件といい…鍛えたとでも？しかも、この動き…毎日命のやり取りを生き抜くような過酷な環境でなければ身につかぬハズ。)」 Re-Destro “(He’s fast! This matches with what Garaki (at the time under the alias of Ujiko Daruma) wanted for Shigaraki. He put him through hell forcing him to fight Machia and, when Compress asked, he refused to give him assistance because Shigaraki needed to be driven into a corner.

Mr. COMPRESS ‘ANTA, Shigaraki ga shinde mo ī no ka? AFO (read: All for One) no kōkeina ndaro!?'」 Mr.コンプレス「アンタ、死柄木が死んでもいいのか？AFO（オールフォーワン）の後継なんだろ！？」 Mr. Compress “Are you sure you want Shigaraki to die? He’s the successor to AFO (read: All For One), right?!”

Ujiko Daruma ‘Dakara koso oikomu hitsuyō ga aru.’ 氏子達磨「だからこそ追い込む必要がある。」 Ushiko Daruma “That’s why we need to push him.” [Chap. 238]

Garaki basically forced a Quirk awakening out of Shigaraki.

All this teaches us that in order for a Quirk to evolve the owner of said Quirk needs to be under intense pressure, believing to be in a near death situation or actually being in a near death situation or worried sick for someone else (Bakugō’s Quirk, like Geten’s, evolved when he saw Midoriya about to being stabbed by Shigaraki. In order to protect him his Quirk evolved, granting him the speed to be there fast enough to move Midoriya away and get hit in his place).

Now, in regard to Tōya’s Quirk, Enji explains what’s going on as such…

…so it might feel like what Tōya is having is not an awakening… but actually when Enji says ‘this is not an awakening’ he’s not referring to Tōya, but to when superhuman strength manifests in normal people in an emergency situation. In that case it’s not an awakening, people won’t be able to keep that superhuman strength… while when a Quirk awakens, said power then remains available for it owner.

So yeah, under strong pressure and in a near death situation Tōya had a Quirk awakening that allowed him to also develop an ice Quirk, which cools him down, allowing him to resist to his own heat better than Enji despite his lack of heat resistance.

The second part of Enji’s sentence is there merely to better explain the whole thing as likely Quirk awakening is, from a Watsonian perspective, an evolution of the “superhuman strength in an emergency situation”… while from a Doylist perspective the Quirk awakening is merely inspired by it.

Of course, since the whole thing with Quirk awakening is so vague, we can't tell for sure. I mean, between Geten having one because Re-Destro got burned and Himiko having one because she's dying there's a huge leap and the first explanation we got for Himiko was that fear triggered it, then it turned out it was because it was in an almost dying situation... then Garaki seems to think that it's actually because Shigaraki was worked to the bones that he had a Quirk awakening... as while he wasn't well he wasn't about to die either nor scared... honestly I think Horikoshi didn't really clearly set his own rules for Quirk awakenings.

Besides, whatever one decides to believe, that wasn't the first near death situation Touya had been in, being burned alive should have very much activated his ice Quirk, which instead didn't happen and what saved him were the stream and AFO.

All this to remark there aren't really clear rules in this story and sometimes looking at it from Watsonian lesnes only lead to headaches and discussions.

I don't think giving Touya a Quirk awakening bans Shouto from getting one... at the same time I think Touya's Quirk awakening is for Doylist purposes, it's to just have Enji slams against the fact that Touya had the Quirk he wanted from the start and that all he did to have that specific Quirk as well as the fact he handled things horribly caused the situation at hands... in case he hadn't gotten it already. In fact it's only after he realizes Touya has ice that he takes responsibility and apologized, not before.

Horikoshi needed Touya to have a Quirk awakening to get to the point he wanted to get... but he could have Shouto (and Iida) save the day without one.

It's the same with other characters. Enji almost died facing the Nomu and yet he didn't get a Quirk awakening because Horikoshi didn't need him to. The same goes for other Pro Heroes. Horikoshi didn't need them to. Then the story required characters to make things they couldn't do before so BAM, their Quirk awaken.

I think everything boils down to just this. For Shouto it wasn't needed by the plot, and would have actually made the chapter longer so Horikoshi didn't bother.

In Iida's case to increase the power of his Quirk, he had him pull out his pipes in a rather painful process so new, more powerful ones would grow instead than give him a Quirk awakening... unless we're meant to think that's the Quirk awakening? I don't know, I didn't really like much that scene.

Anyway, while since I like Shouto I'm sad through all the story he didn't get his awakening, I guess we can't really complain about it. If something is not needed IT SHOULDN'T BE INCLUDED IN A STORY. Even if it could be cool. Especially if it could end up making the scene less strong and would worn out further an already worn out author.

At least those are my two cents. Everyone is free to think differently.

We'll see if the final analysis book will give us more to work with or will brush this off.

ジム履きだったスニーカーを普段履きに

今迄、履いてたPUMAのスリッポンは

めちゃんこ伸縮性もあり、軽いし、楽だったが

比べると、重さもあり、ソールが硬いので

STOP&GOのスポーツには、向いてるよね

そもそも、このadidasのシリーズが

ランニング用だか、バスケ用だか

用途も解らずネットで買ってるのだから

そりゃ、使ってみなきゃ解らない

とは言え、陸上部でバリバリ走ってた頃の

能力も無ければ、シューズだって何年型落ちしても

その当時から比べたら、ワイにとっちゃぁ

最新モデルな訳だ。

しかし…ソールも踵も硬いので

履く時に、ちと苦労するのだが

靴ベラなるものを使用してみると

めちゃんこ楽に履ける！コレ凄い

本来、革靴履く時に使用するんだろうが

スニーカー用途でも、めちゃ良いやん

靴ベラなんて使った事無かったけど

ワイが思ってたイメージ通りの形のまま

恐らく、数十年は変わらずにいるだろう

ある意味、初めから完成系だったのかも知れない

靴を履く時、踵を滑らす為だけに、開発された

この不変的商品は、とんでも無い大発明に違い無い

滑り台を見て思いついたのか？

開発者の名前も顔も知らないので調べて見たら

シューホーン（靴の角）と言うらしく

260年以上前にイギリスで誕生したらしい

欧米でもシューホーンだから、世界的なヒット商品！

履き辛いスニーカーになっただけで

靴ベラの歴史を知るキッカケとなる

立ち止まって考察すれば、

それなりの日常でも落ちてる種を拾う事は出来るのだ

自分の想いを実際言葉にして吐き出すのは勇気がいる。

だらしなくてダメダメなくせに人から愛されたい。

認められたい。

その気持ちが根底にある。

嫌われたくない。

ガッカリされたくない。

普通でいないと。

でも本性がバレるのも時間の問題。

昔から余計な事ばかり考えて何も考えていない。

自分はダメなんだ。変なんだ。出来ないんだと。

逃げ癖がついてその時その時の感情で動くようになった。

ダルくなったら何もしたくない。

”大人になったらなんとかなるだろう”と思っていた。なんとかなっていない。

でも唯一、そんな私をしょうがないやつだと言いながらも受け入れてくれたのが、なんやかんやで2年ほど在籍した川崎のガールズバーとPPP。

ガールズバーの方の人達は試合も見に来てくれた。

キャストの先輩方も退勤後にみんなで一緒にご飯に誘ってくれたり、イベント事誘ってくれたり、お土産を買ってきてくれたり。

そこで知り合った同い年の友達も、シフトこそ被ることが少なかったけど普段遊んでくれる貴重な友達になった。

私にとって本当に大事な場所。

誰に何を何を言われてもなるべく耐える事と

コミュニケーションの大事さを学んだ。

もちろん人と話すことの楽しさも。

遅刻、当欠は減ったけどゼロではない…。

考えるのは苦手だ。反省するのも。

だから人と話すのも結構苦手。めちゃくちゃ考える。

だから友達も指名のお客さんも出来づらかった。

でも何故か。何故だろうかプロレスのリングの上ではスラスラと言葉や感情が出る。

唯一の表現ができる場所がプロレス。

ここもまた私の大切な場所。

ここでは自分をさらけ出す勇気を貰った。

私にはプロレスがある。それが自信になった。

8年前、

プロレスをやめた後は色んなことがあった。

有って無いような学生時代をプロレスに費やした私はプロレス以外の事が何も分からなかった。

知ろうともしなかったから。

バイト先、行く先行く先で馬鹿正直にプロレスをやっていましたと言っていた。

知ってもらっておいた方が有利だと思ったから。

結果、おい！プロレスラー！とかそういうイジりをされまくって嫌になってプロレスラーという過去を隠すようになった。

そして段々と自分の事を話さなくなり、悩んで、諦めて、堕落していく。

そんな時、音楽は心の空白を埋めてくれた。

自分の知らない両親の離婚や高校の中退があり、下がったモチベーションの中プロレスを辞める決意を固めるきっかけにもなった。

最初のキッカケはなんだったか、

母が元々オールドスクール、ウェッサイが大好きでSnoopdoogが家で流れる環境にいたのもあるかもしれない。

ストレイト・アウタ・コンプトンを当時の南町田のグランベリーモール時代に映画館に行った。

それからラップに興味を持ち当時流行りだしていたフリースタイルダンジョンを観るようになり

もっともっとHiphopが、ラップが知りたい！

プロレスの代わりになるものを見つけた時だった。

当時駅のロータリー等で集まってみんなでマイクリレーのようにラップをするサイファーというものがあった。

逗子に住んでいたのでよく行ったのは横浜、戸塚、大船、そして数回だけ川崎、渋谷、新宿。

最初に友達ヅテか何かでMARCHの相撲部のラッパーと知り合い連れていかれた横浜ビブレ横のビブ横サイファー。

見ているだけの予定だったのに

やってみなよ。やってみないと分からないしょ。と。

その時の事はあまり覚えていないけどそこから全てが早かった。

Hiphopの魅力にズブズブと。

当たり前に私よりヤバい奴も沢山いた。

だから私がいくら想いを吐き出しても

むしろ賞賛してくれる人がいた。

そして再び気付けた。

でも実行には移せなかった事のが多かったし、

考えていたようにはHiphopでの活動は出来なかった。

すごく長くなってしまったな！

一昨日？投稿したものと重複してしまうけど、

怒り悲しみマイナスなものも武器にできる場所、プロレスもそうだ。そこにまた帰ってこれた。

だから願えば、掴みに行けば

きっと出来なかったけど願っていた活動も出来る。

私の不平不満、マイナスな部分をもっともっと落とし込んでいきたい。

はー。

色々好きなだけ話してスッキリした。

あんま幸せそうじゃないひとの特徴だけど、だいたい「権利を使いきらないと気が済まない」んだよな。すきに時間を使う権利が発生したら、スケジュールをびっちり組みたがる。なにか酷いことをされて、そのひとに怒る権利が発生したら、それをキッカケに揉めたり悪口を言いたがる。逆に幸せそうなひとは、「権利を使わない権利」をちゃんと使うんだよな。だからバランスがいい。
