Banned hiragana from Japanese license plates and why

Most Japanese license plates have a hiragana on them, but some are banned

(edit)

お (o) - looks similar to あ (a)

を(wo) - pronounced the same way as お(o)

し(shi) - the character for death (死) is also pronounced shi

へ(he) - there is another character pronounced the same way (屁) and it means fart

+ へ can sometimes be read as え(e)

ん (n) - cause it is hard to pronounce on its own

I’m rereading Himawari House by Harmony Becker, and I just got to one of my favorite parts that I forgot about:

I don’t really laugh out loud at books (or anything else really??) like that, but this part and one other part killed me the first time I read it, and I never forgot it. That was over a year ago, and it’s still funny. I’m still stunned by how well this is depicted. I’ll show the other part when I get to it.

I think this book is amazing for practicing Korean, Japanese, and English. Someone was reading the Japanese parts with me a while ago, but things didn’t really work out between us or something. I’m still pretty sad about it, but maybe I’ll make another Japanese friend one day that likes the same stuff as me. :) …Maybe…

I’m gonna dip now before I get too sad about that, but yeah. Please try this book if you’re learning Korean, Japanese, or English, or if you just wanna read a cute book. n_n

あさら (彼方, あっち, あち) that way, over there

あちらの方を見る。I will look over there.

あちらは誰ですか？Who's that over there?

あちらに見えるのが日本で一番高い山、富士山です。That thing visible over there is the tallest mountain in Japan. Mt. Fuji.

あんな that (about something or someone distant from both speaker and listener, or about a situation unfamiliar to both speaker and listener), so, such, sort of

あんな人は知りません。I don't know that kind of person.

あんな服は嫌いです。I hate that kind of clothing.

あんな美しい景色を見たのは生まれて初めてだった。Seeing a view that beautiful was the first time since I was born.

あんなに to that extent, to that degree, so much

あんなに勉強したのに… Despite having studied that much...

あんなに冷たい人を見た事がない。I've never met a person that cold.

あんなに優しい人はこの世界に彼女だけだと思います。People that are that nice, I think that she is the only one in this world.

いかが how, in what way, how about, questionable

Baby Words in Japanese

にゃんにゃん nyan-nyan - cat

わんわん wan-wan - dog

モーモー　mōmō - cow

ブーブー būbū - a car

ポッポ poppo - pigeon

まんま - manma - food/to eat

ねんね-nenne - to sleep (from 寝る/neru - to sleep)

ねんね- nenne - blankey

おめめ- omeme - eyes (from 目/me - eyes)

キレイキレイ - kirei-kirei - to clean up/wash (kirei can mean tidy, cleaned, spotless. If you are using kirei to describe someone, it means they are pretty)

Since children tend to mess up certain sounds, you will often hear 'chi' instead of 'shi' and so on (s and t sounds often get mixed)

A great example of this is when instead of 'san' at the end of someone's name you sometimes hear 'chan' or 'tan'

Also, for some reason, in the pronunciation for phone 'denwa', the w isn't really heard leading to some children saying 'dema'
