“That’s good,” Tim smiled softly, it was good to hear that she wouldn’t go too far with this list. The next question he should have expected, but he hadn’t really thought about it, “Um, he paused and took a gulp of water, “I’m not really sure, being here has been its own experience,” Tim explained, “I wasn’t always in public schools so, it’s all different,” he reminded her, “I guess I never really thought of a high school checklist. That dance was,” Tim looked down, a small smile on his lips, “It was nice, I mean, the whole of it.” He glanced back up at her, “It could have gone horribly if you’d crushed me though,” he was teasing, honest but teasing.

“I feel like I did crush you a bit, at least at first,” she told him. Tim had been nothing but kind to her this past year, yet she’d still accused him of essentially playing a long con for a silly practical joke. Elaine knew Tim would never do that, but she also knew high school bullies--all too well. The hot jock flirting with the nerd girl as a joke--and then promptly, unexpectedly falling in love with her, of course--was a plotline straight out of a 90s chick flick.
