what do think of fan culture
hi anon what a great question!!
i’ve been part of fandoms for way too many years now that i feel like i can have a say in this. things have changed SO much with social media now that i feel like fandom culture can be so dangerous if it’s not kept within its respective boundaries. we are all passionate and loving beings and we all like to hyperfixate on things which there’s nothing wrong, but i think there’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed and there should be an understanding of how much a celebrity/artist should give to their fans. I think sometimes fans can place their own happiness at the expense of celebrities and that’s a very dangerous mindset. also i have come across so many instances of entitlement and overall fans thinking they own every right to celeb’s private life, and the more i take a step back to look at the bigger picture, the more i realize just how dangerous it can be. i love being on tumblr and watching dramas but tbh this past year i have been dettaching from “fandom” more and more, i guess from the more toxic aspect of it. i just enjoy loving things and talking about things i love but i have this understanding that nobody owes me anything and i create my own happiness and that’s something i probably didn’t understand in the past... this is getting too long because fandom culture englobes so many different topics like if u wanna talk about fiction as in characters and fandoms for fictional characters/tv shows there’s one thing, there’s also fandoms for artists/singers which are real ppl and there’s so much more, with social media now i feel like there’s a fandom for everything so fandom culture is a very expansive topic. sorry for this essay, my conclusion is just: no matter what fandom you’re in, be respectful and mindful and please PLEASE always put your mental health and best interest first before any celebrity/artist.
