      for  a  while , all  lovek  can  give  him  is  silence . finding  the  words  he  would  like  to  give  gaius  is  difficult , and  nothing  that  comes  to  mind  is  sufficient  enough . his  heart  is  an  internal  battle , swinging  from  one  direction  unto  the  other : anger , the  taste  of  copper  in  his  mouth  as  he  bites  down  to  hold  his  tongue , betrayed . abandoned . sorrow , the  sting  of  tears  on  his  eyes , an  almost  natural  addition  to  the  aging  and  exhaustion  already  stamping  his  face . fear , the  worry  that  everything  he  feels , everything  he  frets  over  in  his  silence , don’t  matter  to  gaius . that he  doesn’t  matter  to  gaius .      he  sits  himself  down  in  the  softly  illuminated  room , sighing  deeply  in  exhaustion . his  feelings , he  thinks  whenever  rationality  is  alloted  to  him , doesn’t  matter  in  this  situation  --  someone  elses  matter  more . hands  deftly  untie  the  strings  to  boots , the  slide  of  leather  straps  sliding  against  one  another  a  soothing  and  welcoming  sound . it  means  he  can  rest , just  for  the  moment .      blue  eyes  look  up  to  gaius , and  he  can’t  tell  if  the  silence  between  them  is  awkward  or  natural . gaius  does  his  own  thing , and  lovek  does  his , and  that’s  it . that’s  the  nature  of  their  relationship , even  back  then , when  the  relationship  had  first  been  proposed .

     and  like  before , lovek  always  finds  a  way  to  bridge  the  gap  --  intentionally , or  unintentionally . his  eyes  find  a  large  scrape  on  gaius’  neck , how  it  got  there  he  couldn’t  say . thoughtfulness  turns  to  concern , and  without  much  hesitation  he  is  rifling  through  his  bag  to  pull  a  first  aid  kit  from  it .     “   come  here ,   “   he  speaks  softly , despite  being  the  one  to  close  the  gap  between  them . gentle  hands , ungloved , touch  his  chin , only  to  move  it  so  he  can  inspect  the  scrape .   “   i’ll  clean  it  for  you .   “     eyes  flash  to  gaius’ , and  then  his  hands  move  away  like  he  was  touched  by  fire  for  a  moment  --  maybe , just  maybe , he  wasn’t  allowed  to  do  this . to  touch  him .    “   if  you  want  --  sorry , i  shouldn’t  have  -- ...   habit , i  suppose .   “
