Varka led the boy up the steps to the heart of Mondstadt, towards Good Hunter. Rai was being rather quiet, but that was to be expected. Varka has gone down this road before. A quiet, fearful child that he found on the street, stealing to survive. Things turned out quite well last time, so why not extend that same kindness to this boy? Varka supposed he simply had a habit of taking care of taking care of struggling children. He did it for Kira all those years ago... He wanted to help as many lost children as possible.

"Oi, Sara! I'll have a chicken-mushroom skewer, dine in," Varka said with a smile as he approached the woman. "Ah, and can we get a menu too? Gotta let this one pick something out!"

Sara laughed as she handed the boy a menu. "Of course! I don't think I've seen him around... I'll make whatever you'd like, so just ask!" After all, Varka was paying.

"Do you know when your birthday is?"

The young girl glanced up when she was addressed. A birthday? What was that? It wasn't something she had ever celebrated before. "A...birthday?" she asked with a small tilt of her head.

Varka laughed. "Yes, a birthday. It's the day you were born. People typically celebrate on that day by receiving gifts from their loved ones!" He sat down beside the young girl who was reading a picture book. "We've known each other for almost a year now, but we've never celebrated your birthday." A pause. "Do you know when it is?"

Kira shook her head. "I didn't celebrate anything... And I don't know my birthday."

Varka gave a sad smile. He should've expected as much... In the year he had known Kira, he learned quite a bit about this girl's prior situation. Of course she didn't celebrate her birthday... That just meant he had to change this.

"Well, next week marks a year since we met. So... November 3rd will be your new birthday, alright?" he said as he lightly ruffled the girl's hair.

Kira gave a weak giggle before nodding. She didn't know what a birthday really meant, but she trusted Varka. She knew he would make her happy.

Kira smiled bittersweetly down at the cupcake sitting on the table before her. Ever since Varka reinvented her birthday, it had been a day that brought her unparalleled joy. He always managed to come back home for her birthday... They always celebrated it together... So being alone on her birthday caused the hole in her chest to widen.

She missed her father so much... Now, she has traveled across the world in search of answers, but nothing she has found ever managed to fill the loneliness she felt. She wrote to him, telling him that she was in Fontaine and updating him on her journey. But she never received anything back from him. Kira knew it was selfish to believe he would drop everything to see her, but his absence seemed to echo on a day like today.

So, for the first time in almost twenty years, she felt...alone.

BODY. in mondstadt, the very first descriptors of varka are always the same---big, tall, huge. his mother, a wisp of a woman, always sighs and says it must be in the water, for his father, prior to his passing, certainly was no giant, neither was his father nor hers. a behemoth of a man built of stocky muscle, it did not all come by simply blessing. hard work refined these muscles, toughened his skin, produced thick callouses upon the pads of his fingers, and made the strikingly intimidating figure that mondstadt revered as their grand master. his years going out on expeditions even prior to his illustrious position show upon his scarred, tanned skin, and with a certain giddiness will varka happily explain where each and every scar came from. whether it be the wide scar arcing across his lower back from a rifthound getting the jump on him in inazuma, or the still-tender scar tissue drawing a clean line through left eye brow and eye received from a mitachurl’s flying axe in liyue, in vivid detail can varka remember it all. the only scar that holds no story worth telling is the burn mark upon his right palm--where he had tried to pick up the remnant’s of crepus’s misused delusion, the leaking, vile power scorching him.

HEIGHT. 6′5″

WEIGHT. 235 lbs.

EYES. a crisp, bright blue, rivalling that of mondstadt’s summer skies. they gaze upon everything with a startling vividness, and even from a distance, one can see the hints of lavender in his irises, curving below his pupils.

HAIR. his hair is stark black, and typically cropped short to be less of a nuisance, but sometimes will be allowed to grow out when he hasn’t the time nor resources to be pausing for a trim. he will jokingly remark upon how everyone but him gets to have a fun hair color--whether it be jean’s golden blonde, like the golden coat of a lion, or the fiery red of diluc’s mane, so strikingly in tune with his vision.

FACE. well-chiseled, broad and sharp in jaw, with defined features. he has some scarring gouging through his jaw, and most notably, the scarring over his eye, though blessedly it laid no harm to his vision. always kept clean-cut for the sake of appearances, but when there is no razor to make use of, varka only ever manages a thin bit of stubble. handsome is a good descriptor for his facial features, but most are drawn in first by his eyes, so brightly shining.

ATTIRE. in formal occasions, or when making public appearances, varka dresses in the traditional garb of a grand master, with all sorts of fancy emblems denoting his status, title, and his ties to andrius. otherwise, varka will happily shed all of that, preferring much more the clothes he had worn when he was a wandering adventurer. fondly dubbed his ‘incognito’ clothes (though he, in all of his largeness, is the furthest thing from incognito), his wardrobe is filled to the brim with cloaks, thick trousers, shirts warm summer days and frigid winter nights, and ample coats in all muted colors. more often than not, most of his clothes end up needing to be tossed, far beyond the mend.

PERSONALITY. tba. key traits are bubbly, excitable, boisterous, humble, soft-hearted... man wears his heart on his sleeve and often pays the price for it. truly a well-intentioned man, deeming him a gentle giant to his people, concealing the truth of the fierce warrior that he is. as the protector of mondstadt, mondstadtians do not mind his fearsome battling capabilities, but varka does fear that one day, they will look at him differently when realizing the true extent of his power, and the measures he is willing to take in keeping the wind-kissed city safe.

Snezhnaya... That wasn't a good sign, but it wasn't a blatant red flag either. He wasn't about to assume the worst about someone just because of where they were from. However... The possible links to the Fatui were a bit concerning to him, especially since Mondstadt has had a Fatui infestation lately. What if Kyran was indeed part of the Fatui and that was his reason for being here, just like the other soldiers in Mondstadt?

He took a drink from his own wine glass--his tolerance was very high, so he wasn't concerned about the risk of clouding his mind at this moment--as he thought over Kyran's words. Once he set the glass back down on the table, he smiled. "I'm sure Dragonspine is quite similar to your home, then! Haha, sometimes I wonder if Kira is originally from Snezhnaya herself~ She is hardly bothered by the cold up there, so maybe she has some inherent resistance to it!" he joked with a hearty chuckle.

"But it is interesting that you have spent the last few years in Fontaine... I suppose that your residence there was for research?" he inquired with a kind smile. "However... It is a bit odd. I have spent a lot of time in Fontaine over the more recent years, but I don't remember seeing you..." He then laughed loudly. "Fontaine is a large nation, after all! Much too grand for two people to cross paths~" But Varka had insider information, and much of it included various research. He didn't recognize his name... How did he escape the Underworld's network of information?

He couldn't be too sure on if he was winning this man around or not, but it was normal for father's to be protective of their daughters, so he didn't feel as though his connections to the Fatui were what happened to slip through. Actually, he half wondered if Varka would automatically judge him if he were to find out his home, a small smile forming when the elder male asked the question he'd been waiting on for the majority of that night. Kira already knew the truth, so there was no point in lying, even if he'd wanted to - and besides, just being from Snezhnaya shouldn't automatically make him out to be the enemy - or would it? What type of prejudices did the great Grand Master of Mondstadt carry?

"Snezhnaya, though to be honest I've lived in Fontaine for the last few years", he shifted slightly in order to pour himself out another drink, his pyro vision quite clear to be seen, "But due to my upbringing, the climate of Dragonspine barely affects me, so it's been a lot easier to carry out my research. Most of my assistants perfer to remain near the base of the mountain, as most are from Fontaine". All the truth, a small sip of his wine taken as he quietly regarded the man before him. Had he said a little too much? Would he be able to put together all the little clues? Maybe he was having a little too much fun with this...maybe he should hold back on the wine for now.

“I want to travel, your highness.” Aohi looked up from her bow to the lady on the throne, who had raised her since she was only a young child.

“What would you ever want to do that for?” The Tsaritsa places a hand on her beloved child’s cheek. Aohi gently pulls to her touch.

“You trained me to be a harbinger, your highness.. yet, I feel like decorum in your home.” Aohi spoke softly, looking down at the ice cold floor in worry of what the Tsaritsa would think.

The Tsaritsa thought hard at Aohi’s words, despite being depicted as a ruthless, tyrant archon, her frozen heart seemed to melt at the sight of the young girl she’s raised.

If any of the archons knew that.. they’d only use Aohi to get to her.

“..My dear, you are my chamberlain, I don’t assign you much because you’re already doing your duty.”

Aohi softly frowned at this, it was boring to sit in the house all day, just cleaning whatever spec of dust appears and walking through the same garden every evening.

“I am a harbinger, am I not, your royal highness?” She asked. The Tsaritsa smiling as she knows Aohi is too stubborn to accept an answer, even from her.

“Yes.. you are.” — “Then, don’t I deserve to do expeditions in your name? You trained me that way.”

The Tsaritsa smiled at her eagerness to explore, despite a long time passing by. “isn’t it time you mature, little pipistrelle?”

Aohi smiled at the Tsaritsa’s motherly teasing. “No, your highness, I am still young..” She replied, looking up at her with only a softness Aohi reserves for a mother.

A gentle laugh, contradicting her ruthless, tyrant-like story is heard. “..You never grow old, do you, Aohi?” Aohi only shakes her head, mirroring the Tsaritsa’s smile.

“Alright, I will allow you to travel, but you must promise me,” The Tsaritsa’s hand tilts Aohi’s chin upwards, a stern gaze on her face. “No one must know you are a harbinger, nor associated with Snezhnaya, do you understand?” Aohi listens to her words, ignoring the way her highness’s hand seemed to grow colder.

“If anyone finds that I treasure you more than anything or anyone, they will use you against me, and I’ll be weak enough to fall for it.”

“Yes, your highness.” Aohi steps away, and the Tsaritsa almost reaches back for her.. daughter. “Glory to her royal highness, the Tsaritsa.”

He seemed favoured by the Archons when he was granted a Pyro vision on his coming-of-age. Through the gift, he’s given many opportunities, even being chosen as Varka’s successor of the Knights of Favonius, but never took it, an independent soul.

He wants to win, by any means necessary.

His swordsmanship and excelling talents in fighting, gained the favour of the Electro Archon, becoming her most elite samurai. He gained his honour after fighting off the tenth Harbinger, ending Signora’s reign over Inazuma. He’s loyal to the Raiden Shogun, trained only by her and Guuji Yae of the Grand Narukami Shrine.

Entry 6 — He Who’s Loyalty Never Wavered.

He embodies the Youthfulness everyone used to have, He enjoys his life in Liyue, never wanting to travel, nor want anything more than to just live his life, to be a friend to those he makes, almost like a warm spirit, many think he’s like Guizhong’s child incarnate, his care-free spirit seems to soothe anyone near.

Sorry about how long this took, I told myself that I won't complete this series until I finish and publish another chapter of my fanfic. So I did. Then the exams :,-[

Ok, let's begin.

WHAT IS CRYO?

Cryo is associated with love in Genshin. I believe this comes from the 'the Snow Queen' by Hans Christian Anderson, where shards of a broken mirror corrupts the heart. So I can see an association there…

Ice is used as a preservative which is already perfect for Qiqi.

Ice is pretty, I can make a case for purity, clarity and Knowledge (because of the preservation aspect).

In terms of negative aspects: cold(world shattering idea over here), danger, isolation and slippery(trickster characters or smt)

let's begin.

KAEYA

Pretty boy already has the beauty aspect, however remember that there's more than meets the eye with this man. While I don't believe he's a completely bad person, I do think he could be a pretty dangerous character and so Varka was in the right keep him close.

Of course the slippery aspect works nicely with this man, I will make a case for isolation as well. Even if he does have people he cares about in Mondstadt, the dude that he should be closest to is Diluc, and well...

Also, Kaeya being aware of his role as a spy would further his feelings of isolation. The dude he trusted with that info blew up on him and the only other person we see him genuinely like is Klee.

Him being Kheanrian also allows him an association with the preservation aspect. He was told that his role would be vital for Kheanria.

Kaeya idolises family, he see's it as a very important part of a person's life. This results in one of the few concrete ideals this man exhibits. According to his informant Vile, he doesn't work with people who hurts other's families.

Abandoned by his biological dad [ I don't care if its for a good cause, its still abandonment,] he was adopted by Crepus, who died and had then falling out with his brother. I think we can safely state that he has familial issues.

Received the vision during THE altercation with Diluc. :/

DIONA

Diona's a bartender, and ice is an important part in cocktail mixing. She's open about her goals to dismantle the wine industry so we'll put her under clarity. She plays this cold, i-dont-care-about-you character, which is adorable when a child does it.

Her reasons for toppling down the wine industry is due to her father, the man is a drunk and though he doesn't become violent whilst under the influence, he still worries Diona with this addiction. Also, imagine the responsibilities that child would have. She has to take care of her father when he's in this state. We know she still loves her father though, so she has a complicated family situation.

She got her vision when she went out on a stormy night to find her father after he went missing while drunk.

She definitely loves her father, and her goals come from that love and desire to help him, even if it doesn't solve the root causes of alcoholism.

ROSARIA

Rosaria is cold and pretty isolated. She stays away from the activities of the sisters of Barbathos. She draws away from Mondstadt by being indifferent to the FUCKING ARCHON.

The people she tends to hang around with is Barbara [unwillingly], Kaeya [doesnt really trust him] and Venti[ It's Venti, the dude isn't trustworthy anyways]. Basically, her relationships in the tavern trio is, 'These two fucks are sus as hell so Imma monitor them.'

A brief explanation of her family situation. She was taken in and raised by a group of bandits. After betraying her gang, she had to kill her adoptive father. This is where she gets her vision.

She is taken in by Varka, after her 'family' was taken car of by the knights of favonius. She got the second chance since she was STILL A CHILD.

She stays and serves Mondstadt because she wants to repay the kindness she was shown.

MIKA

[Ok, so I did the research and notes like 2 months ago and I don't remember enough to elaborate on this part and I'm too lazy to go back to research so.... I'm just typing down the notes.]

Familial problems, knowledge, got the vision in a sticky situation, preservation [May come from the fact the my dude's a cartographer.]

Beautiful, dangerous, cold.

She is forced into isolation by her family and the people of Mondstadt due to her family history which is a fucking crappy thing to do. At least she has people on her side, so she's not completely alone.

I'll make a case of preservation, her family is an important part of Mondstadt's past, even if they were on the wrong side of history. bringing a major clan back this time in a positive light will preserve culture. Girl doesn't even deny her families past.

She got her vision during a low moment of her life, being cast out from Mondtsadt and her clan, unable to trade money for goods and services and left to fend for herself.

QIQI

Preservation because zombie. I guess she could be lonely, but she doesn't notice it that much. Adopted by baizhu. Whatever the FUCK I wrote here.

GANYU

As an adeptus, she has the role and duty of preserving Liyue. She was taken in by Cloud Retainer, and her story quest was her feeling lonely.

CHONGYUN

Reference to the chill you get when encountering spirits? Also his yang energy situation needs to be regulated via cold, so it could just be for mercy.

SHENHE

Obvious case for cold, isolation and danger. She was abandoned by her father and killed the monster she was sacrificed to. The adoptive daughter of Cloud Retainer. She is close with her new family.

AYAKA

Her clan are one of major players in the preservation of Inazuma. Due to her status, she feels isolated from the people she meets.

I'll make a case for Beauty and I've written down purity , which might come from the princess archetype she has going on? [ What was your logic me from two months ago? T-T]

The death of her parents had a toll on her brother, poor dude had to take over a FUCKING CLAN AND THE RESPONSIBILITIES AT THE AGE OF 16. I know Ayaka was also affected by their deaths as bad. And worst of all, one of her major emotional supports can't be close to her during such a hard time in her life.

I'm not saying she has any resentment to her brother or the people he serves, all im saying is that the Kamisato siblings were dealt a bad hand and I want people to appreciate them as much as I do.

I feel a strong case for love, especially towards her brother. Those two are pretty much all they have left.

LAYLA

All I have written down for her is knowledge. I'm gonna add preservation because her sleepy time conscience leaves a mark of her existence in the form of finished assignments.

It's weak, I know.

FREMINET

The knowledge aspect since he's fatus, Isolation [2 months younger me might have noted that due to his depression, hydrate yourselves btw.] I also wrote preservation down, if I wrote the essay down earlier I would've remembered the reason but I didn't and now I'll write more detailed notes, gods damned.

Love toward his siblings in the House of the Hearth, he also received his vision during a mission gone wrong that nearly killed him.

Knowledge, clarity, preservation [pictures], her camera is an act of love from her father.

Knowledge and Clarity may be a reference to the eyes and ears he has around the Fortress of Merropied.

He took measures to protect the people of Fontaine during the Flood, and he does protect the people of Merropied.

Orphan, taken in by a family, found out later that he was going to be sold, killed his 'parents', sentenced to prison, made new family. :)

CONCLUSION

This one was a lot of guessing and decoding on my end, which is completely on me, my notes should be better.

The broken family before finding a new one trend was interesting to me, it's not all characters but enough to get me wondering.

Is this what the Tsarista feels?

Think about it, maybe she loses her family during the archon war, or she feels disappointed in her first 'family' [ since I doubt a diety associated with love would be oogely-boogely about what the Heavenly Principals have done]. She finds a new family in the form of the harbingers, the leader being a Kheanrian.

Another thing I noticed is a lot of the vision stories I saw was like a helping hand to the users, like, it was granted to show them that there was someone on their side.

They were given a vision when they were the most isolated.

Which I think is sweet. It's loving. Warming my heart as I type this out. The Tsaritsa is going to be an interesting character. I know it.

Genshin Rewrite: Mondstadt Backstory Notes

Notes related to my "what if Genshin was a normal RPG and not a gacha?" project, which is set out to streamline/rewrite Genshin Impact into something more... traditional and character-driven. Featuring a talking protagonist, a canon party and a more involved plot...!(?)

Feat. lore changes, rampant lore speculation and restructuring the entire game around "what if Venti [and later Diluc] were main characters". This post is The Relevant Mondstadt Lore That Is Actually A Bit Different From Canon.

In the spirit of this being styled after an RPG, I'm streamlining a lot of the lore present in Mondstadt down to what's directly relevant to the party/the plot of the overall game and making them waaaay more important...

I've planned two Mondstadt arcs; one is the prologue, which is mostly unchanged except for some fairly minor tweaking, and a second arc set between Natlan and Snezhnaya. The second arc is where Venti's story will close and the seeds of Diluc's will start to move into more major focus.

Areas of Focus:

Venti is the deuteragonist of the game for some time, and it's primarily him motivated to investigate the Fall of Khaenri'ah beyond what Celestia told him as well as the Tsaritsa's actions. Investigating Celestia, and eventually deciding to rebel, might not be something Venti succeeds at - but the party will, in his stead.

La Signora as an antagonist to Venti. She won't die in Inazuma, and will get used to greater effect in Mondstadt later in the game.

Venti's corruption remains an issue throughout the game, resulting in him eventually becoming an enemy to be defeated (and replaced in the party by Diluc).

Diluc's relationships with Jean and Kaeya. In addition, coming to terms with Kaeya's betrayal and his father's death/dealings with the Fatui. Diluc's motivation to join the party is to hunt down Kaeya after his apparent betrayal of Mondstadt, and I will... have a lot of fun with the fallout of that.

Minor focus on Knights of Favonius internal politicking re; Jean and Inspector Eroch.

Major Lore Changes

I didn't want to drop the Lawrence Clan entirely, but keeping them relevant while balancing every other plate in Mondstadt made them feel unnecessary. So I decided to keep Eroch around as a Fatui conspirator working to undermine Jean, and just make him a Lawrence.

Shuffling the map; Dragonspine is now directly between Mondstadt and Snezhnaya and far more dangerous, which sucks for anyone trying to travel between the two regions. Durin's ghost is an active threat there.

Varka is dead. The expedition to the North is changed to an expedition to Dragonspine, which ended in failure and resulted in massive losses. This is for the dual purpose of a) putting Mondstadt on the ropes when dealing with Stormterror/the Fatui and b) hyping Dragonspine as a god-awful dungeon to clear later in the game.

Things that are being cut:

Most of Albedo's stuff. He's still present, as an NPC alchemist. A lot of the plot elements that have been seeded with him have too much crossover with Venti, Kaeya, Durin and Scaramouche, so I feel it'd be redundant. I had a big war with myself over whether to use Albedo or Kaeya (have to use one, but using both would be repetitive), but when I decided to kill off Venti and have Diluc replace him it had to be Kaeya.

Venti's life. I'M JOKING

Alice and Mona. The Hexenzirkel are on thin ice, being one of three Big Mysterious Groups Of Important Lore People that are mostly off-screen, and the least relevant by far. Klee is still in Mondstadt though - Alice is still a deadbeat mom and traveling author.

The Genshin Webtoon. After much consideration, it didn't work out for my timeline, and I don't think Collei needed to come to Mondstadt. She's still with Tighnari and was saved by Cyno, but that all happened in Sumeru.

Most character quests and hangouts. Some Mond characters will be explicitly present as NPCs, with varying levels of relevance.

All limited time events are non-canon, though information from some of them (e.g. Hidden Strife and the Dragonspine events) will be recycled elsewhere.

Recent History:

~4 years ago: Crepus' death, Diluc's defection from the Knights of Favonius. Eroch Lawrence, with ambitions to take Varka's position as Grandmaster, is sanctioned under suspicions of collusion with the Fatui but remains in the Knights.

~3 years ago: Inspector Eroch is passed over for a promotion to Assistant Master in favour of Jean Gunnhildr.

~3 years ago: Varka's failed expedition to Dragonspine cripples Mondstadt's forces. Jean is made Acting Grandmaster in his absence.

~1 year ago: Stormterror first appears in Mondstadt.

~4 months ago: Diluc Ragnvindr returns to Mondstadt.

~2 weeks ago: Venti and Lumine both awaken in Mondstadt. Lumine meets Paimon.

Minor Characters in Mondstadt;

Eroch Lawrence: Disgraced former Inspector of the Knights of Favonius, and Fatui conspirator. Actively works with the Fatui to undermine the Ordo in the hopes of one day returning to power. A minor antagonist. Basically la Signora's stooge these days.

Eula Lawrence: Inspector Eroch's niece, and a nepo hire. Jean gave her a chance to prove herself after her uncle's fall from grace, which earned Eula's grudging respect. And rivalry. One of Jean's closest allies, butts heads with Kaeya quite often. She'll usurp Jean's position and take the role of Grandmaster, just wait and see...! (she does not.)

Bennett: Member of the Adventurer's Guild. Occasionally encountered on the journey across Teyvat, where some grave misfortune has inevitably befallen him. The party first met him in Inazuma, where he'd arrived the day before the Sakoku Decree was enforced… it didn't improve from there.

Amber and Lisa; their roles remain largely unchanged. Collei never came to Mondstadt, but Lisa is still in contact with Cyno/her cute kohai. Amber and Collei would become fast friends in the second Mondstadt arc, which I'm imagining to take place either during Windblume or Ludi Harpastum.

Razor and Andrius: Literally the same guys. Razor has a slightly more involved optional sidequest that leads to the Andrius bonus boss, which would probably net you a cool sword if you won.

Xiangling: Member of the Adventurer's Guild and part-time employee at Wangmin. Encountered across Teyvat searching for really weird ingredients, and trading you really weird recipes (among other things) if you help her find them.

Diluc, Kaeya and Crepus' Death.

The meat and potatoes of Diluc's arc, and the character-side of the Abyss Order's plans with the Loom of Fate.

Crepus was a loving father to Diluc, a caring guardian to Kaeya and Elzer, a political powerhouse in Mondstadt... and so bitter with the Ordo that he willingly became a Fatui collaborator. Unfortunately for Crepus, he was nowhere near as useful as Eroch Lawrence, and far less cooperative. So, when the Fatui wanted to destabilise Mondstadt by hitting the community and the economy with a two-for-one murder combo to get a stronger foothold in Mondstadt, Crepus was the one on the chopping block.

As we know, Crepus protected his son from Ursa the Drake, and Diluc was forced to mercy-kill his own father once the effects of his Delusion backfired on him. Diluc suspected his father had been set up and wanted an investigation opened, but Eroch -a Fatui collaborator- blatantly disregarded his suspicions. Diluc went to the one person he thought he could trust to help him.

Instead of supporting him, Kaeya took the opportunity to kick Diluc when he was down.

The fallout from that night resulted in the loss of Kaeya's right eye, one of Dottore's segments being injured, the deaths of several Fatui agents, Diluc's Vision being confiscated and a dishonorable discharge. Diluc left Mondtadt to head to Snezhnaya to do his own investigation, where he stayed for several years. "I can't deal with this. I can't be here anymore," Diluc thought, with uncharacteristic cowardice.

During that time, Diluc became extremely proficient with his Delusion. Unlike canon, he has never stopped using it, and never reclaimed his Vision. Diluc is in a truly incredible downward spiral. Diluc killed the previous 11th Harbinger, and was gravely injured in the process, but joined a network of anti-Fatui informants while recovering. Four months before Lumine woke up, Diluc returned to Mondstadt.

For Kaeya's part, he has always known he was supposed to be sacrificed to complete the Loom of Fate. Taken in by Crepus and raised with Diluc after his father hid him in Mondstadt, Kaeya began to reject the Order's plan - the current world is flawed, but there are things he doesn't want to lose. But, he knew he didn't have a choice. It's not like he could've killed himself - the Order had safeguards for that.

If Kaeya viewed himself as a villain destined to ruin everything, he idolised Diluc as a hero. At some point, Kaeya began to believe that Diluc would be the one to kill him - that's what heroes do. They kill monsters. They save the world.

Kaeya truly wants Diluc to be the one to kill him.

When Crepus died and Diluc was vulnerable, Kaeya's response to Crepus' death made it impossible for him to ignore his conflicting loyalties. He then realised; "There is no better time than this."

When Diluc killed Fatui agents, Kaeya covered it up. When his Vision was confiscated, Kaeya stole it back. When anyone asked about Kaeya's eye, he told one wild story after another until people stopped asking. If there's anything Diluc's done that's actually disappointed him, it was rejecting Crepus' wishes by leaving the Knights and selling his old mansion.

While Kaeya is generally very good at setting Diluc up, either to play pranks or to gently lead him to the conclusions Kaeya wanted him to reach, Kaeya is never quite able to properly gauge how much Diluc cares about him.

Kaeya eventually betraying Mondstadt to fulfill his own destiny will motivate Diluc to join the party in the last 30% of the game or so. That won't go the way Kaeya expects it to either...

As far as the Abyss Order is concerned, they're going to rewrite destiny to ensure the fall of Khaenri'ah/they won the war with the surface and Celestia, thus completely deleting several hundred years' worth of history. All the people they're killing and sacrifices they're making just plain don't count, because soon they're not going to exist.

Lumine, as an outsider to Teyvat who is not part of "the world", would survive this, but no one else would.

Dragonspine

Located directly between Mondstadt and Snezhnaya. Originally a land-trade route connecting the two countries, it became inaccessible after Durin's fall in the Cataclysm. Raging snowstorms, turbulent seas and the curse of a vengeful dragon's ghost batter Dragonspine year-round. It used to be pretty easy to travel between Snezhnaya and Mondstadt, but these days you have to take the looooong way around... through pretty much every other nation, first.

Naturally, the party will have to take this route at some point.

The Skynail in Dragonspine seems to be there because Celestia discovered that someone there learnt some truth of the world they weren't supposed to know... that seems to be their preferred method of dealing with information leaks.

Varka's Doomed Expedition

2 years prior to canon, Varka led a large number of the Knights of Favonius into Dragonspine in an attempt to re-open the land path between Mondstadt and Snezhnaya and lay Durin's soul to rest. Intended as a joint venture between Capitano's Fatui Company, the Knights and Mondstadt's Adventurer's Guild. Varka, who wanted to rebuild relations with the Fatui after the... incident with Diluc, had believed this would be a wonderful opportunity for Mondstadt's growth.

The mission ultimately ended in failure. Very few of the troops sent to Dragonspine ever returned to Mondstadt. This expedition crippled Mondstadt's forces and blackened Varka's reputation, leaving the Knights open to Inspector Lawrence's attempts to muscle his way back into power.

Kaeya was part of this expedition. Anyone that made it back did so on his orders. Less than a year later, Stormterror appeared in Mondstadt.

Mika Schmidt Headcannons

y'all

This guy is giving me so much brainrot. So suffer. Here we go, Headcannons.

Mika covers for his brother. Yes, he does. In his letters to his parents, he'll say that Huffman is nice, that Huffman does his responsibilities and that he even does some of Mika's chores sometimes. When he was younger, he'd use stories he heard from the other kids for things to tell his parents - oh, Huffman took me to the ice cream place today! We went on a picnic today! Of course, it was never true.

Only those closest to Mika can ever sense the fake smile he gives when talking about his family. don't get me wrong, he LOVES his family, but the fact his parents left to go adventuring and the resulting actions that led to Mika raising himself AND his older brother (who was supposed to be letting him be a child instead of worrying about taking care of a drunk brother all the time) leaves him with a feeling of emptiness.

He overcompensates his own lack of childhood by letting Klee have as much fun as she could dream of. He's yet another big brother to her, who'll let her blow up the landscape of Mondstadt and wordlessly change the maps of Mondstadt with a soft smile.

He feels unworthy of his achievements, and those feelings only intensified when Varka took him on the expedition. And although he gained more confidence on the trip, he's still too nervous to stop the nasty rumors that spread claiming he fought a fatui harbinger head on (he didn't, Varka had remained calm and settled the tension between the two groups)

He pays all the bills. Obviously, his parents send home Mora every now and then, but his checks from the Knights of Favonius go straight into the household. After all, his brother is wasting all his money getting drunk...

Sometimes he lets Diona come over to de-stress over the fact her dad is a raging alcoholic. Although they don't talk often, they have a closer connection to each other because of the fact their families suck.

He makes Bennett maps everytime he goes out, and always has a few extras in case Bennett looses them, or ruins them, or his bad luck does SOMETHING to them.

He helps supply Timmie the amount of money needed for all the bird seed he feeds the pigeons on the bridge.

My guy is so precious and depressed and anxious and Mika angst is now my favorite thing okay bye

I have a genshin au to share pspspspsps genshin fans (especially razor fans) pspspspsppspspsps

The Knight of Favonius are a large superhero organisation in Mondstadt city, founded all the way back in the ~1600s. They have ten "top spots" of heroes who are dispatched on missions often, ranking not in power but authority.

1 - The Grandmaster, real name Varka. Unknown abilities. He doesn't show his face often.

2 - The Dandelion Knight, real name Jean. Wind manipulation and healing.

3 - The Spindrift Knight, real name Eula. Superhuman strength and speed.

4 - empty spot. This used to be held by The Brightstar Knight. He is missing. There is a vigilante known as the Darknight Hero that the Knights keep butting heads with who is suspected to be the same man.

5 - Starwind, real name Kaeya. Ice manipulation.

6 - Kreideprinz, real name Albedo. Manifestation (from drawings, specifically)

7 - Outrider, real name Amber. Fire manipulation.

8 - Witch of Purple Rose, real name Lisa. Energy manipulation.

9 - Sharpshooter, real name Mika. Surveillance/locating (can tell the location of any one thing he need to, including people, animals, objects etc)

10 - Spark, real name Klee. Her powers work like Bakugou Katsuki but she's just a kid, who is being looked after by the Knights since her powers are unstable.

There are others (Noelle, Huffman, Swan, Sucrose, etc) but they don't have titles.

Razor recently discovered he has superpowers. He wants to be a hero. But he's scared. So he goes to the Knights. They recruit him, the Witch specifically, and so his training begins.

Of course he struggles with a double identity. Of course his adoptive father ends up being the source of his powers and a supervillain he has to kill. Of course the Witch, Lisa, has a deal that involves her life, and she can't avoid the debt collectors anymore. Of course his civilian boyfriend is killed by a villain. Of course his long lost brother Cyno finds him, a hero himself, and of course he ends up under some rubble after trying to save a civilian.

Of course he's left alone.

Haha, you know how I said I wasn't dead when I came back from Christmas? Lmao

Right after New Year, I got a bad cold and was dead to the world yesterday. I sleep on the couch for like 6 hours. BUT. I AM ALIVE! And I have more solid dates for shit. And I will hopefully be settled next week.

In the meantime, I have been writing. So Ummm Yeah, It's probably not what you guys expected, but here is that update.

So the thing that hit me like a truck over the holidays is a "sent back in time"/"reincarnation" thing feat. uh, this might come as a shock, but Crepus! The idea hit me randomly about having him being stuck in the delusion. Witnessing Diluc's 4 feral years and realizing. "Oh, my kid doesn't think I love him." but when Diluc breaks the delusion Crepus gets sent back in time and decides to prevent any bad ends for Diluc! It's absolutely gonna have a cheesy title and be very headcanon-heavy with Varka and Alice as godparents, and Vent's gonna make an appearance. So far, it's been fun. I cranked out like 10k words in 4 days.

The second is a modern Chiluc AU. Look, my beloved hot doctor wife sent me a manhwa, and I speed-ran all like 50 chapters. And a Chiluc AU I already had needed some work, so I took some inspiration and have been working on a rewrite for that.

Then as I've mentioned before, a little add-on to the Ice Prince Diluc AU. With the Harbingers and baby Diluc. Pierro has bought a parenting book. That's all you need to know about that.

I've also been working on a weird AU where it's sort of based around Diluc and Childe's bis artifacts. So a Crimson Witch Diluc and Heart of Depth/Pirate Childe. That's getting a little closer to being finished.

In the finished pile is an Albeluc thing that I feel needs some work and a third installment of my Ayatoluc series. Which is feeling super indulgent as I just keep slapping my favorite troupes on them.
