evander  hadn't  truly  had  that  many  good  interactions  with  the  prythian  fae,  and  he  dimly  was  aware  that  was  also  a  reflection  on  his  own  demeanor.  he  knew  he  should  be  better,  could  hear  his  high  lord  and  emissary's  voices  in  his  mind  reminding  him  to  be  nice.  but  he  was  a  solider,  he  didn't  do  this  polite  court  bullshit.  "  from  what  she  taught  of  your  mother,  it  only  makes  sense  she  wished  to  be  away  from  it  all.  "  he  wasn't  a  very  religious  man,  he  didn't  spend  hours  learning  the  words  of  their  dark  mother.  she'd  spoken  to  him  a  small  handful  of  times,  in  various  forms,  and  he'd  left  it  at  that.  it  seemed  plenty  sufficient,  he  continued  in  his  life  as  he  desired  and  asked  for  help  all  but  two  or  three  times  when  he  was  struggling.  now  that  he  was  older,  he  asked  for  nothing.  his  brow  cocks  when  the  high  lord  mentions  their  own  mother,  interesting.  "  i  wonder  what  her  place  in  all  of  this  is.  "  he  muses.  was  she  fighting  their  own  mother  ?  could  that  explain  why  so  many  were  crying  of  her  absence  ?  she  could  be  tied  up  by  such  things,  and  that  thought  made  evander's  stomach  clench.  he  may  not  be  very  pious,  but  two  fighting  deities  was  certainly  good  for  none.  "  especially  when  they  are  sentient  beings  usually  older  than  you.  "  his  father's  dragon  was  a  particularly  cantankerous  old  bastard.  it  suited  the  late  lord  voss  well.  people  had  tried  to  encourage  evander  to  bond  with  the  thing  when  his  father  passed,  he'd  refused.  he  didn't  need  or  want  a  dragon.  "  perhaps  you  ought  to  share  that  wisdom  with  your  fellow  prythian  fae.  "  he  was  long  tired  of  hearing  that  the  dusk  court  was  to  be  blamed  when  it  was  impossible  any  of  them  were  strong  enough  to  bring  unwanted  guests  here.  wishing  to  help  them  free  themselves  from  the  capital  was  one  thing,  bringing  them  to  their  hidden  home  another.  "  the  dusk  fae  has  not  seen  war  in  my  lifetime,  or  ever,  my  lord.  "  he  answers.

he  believed  in  giving  credit  where  it  was  due,  for  that  reason  alone  he  attempt  to  evolution  the  court  and  it's  ruler  with  a  far  more  objective  lens  than  what  his  worries  would  demand  from  saint.  the  fae  of  dusk  did  not  strike  him  as  the  violent  sort  despite  their  rather  violent  deity  ;  it  still  came  as  a  surprise  simply  as  he'd  come  to  learn  all  the  dark  mother  had  filled  her  children's  ears  with  regarding  prythian.  "as  i  am  certain  you  will."  the  general  appeared  to  have  a  stable  head  on  his  shoulder,  which  was  far  more  than  what  could  be  said  for  others.  "perhaps  not,  i  suppose  isolating  you  all  is  her  method  of  protection."  it  was  questionable,  but  he  understood  why  this  court  would  not  condemn  her  for  it.  "we  haven't.  she  doesn't  have  a  habit  of  interfering  in  our  daily  matters.  i've  always  seen  her  as  the  deity  who  would  protect  us  should  we  not  be  able  to  from  other  worldly  threats,  not  an  occurrence  that's  made  itself  known...until  now."  her  disappearance  now  when  all  that  chaos  that  ensued  in  gaea  certainly  raised  more  questions,  and  left  doubts  of  their  own.  the  high  lord  of  dawn  would  not  deny  his  curiosity  of  the  winged  beasts,  he  of  course  had  no  interest  in  riding  one,  but  learning  of  them  was  as  imperative.  "it  is  certainly  a  skill  to  be  envied,  forging  a  bond  with  wild  creatures."  he  supposed,  it  made  sense,  particular  for  the  high  lord  of  dusk.  if  he  had  a  rare  white  dragon  as  his  own,  then  saint  suspected  their  ruler  was  not  given  a  beast  form.  this  didn't  come  as  a  surprise,  a  court  that  also  did  not  possess  high  priestess  would  also  not  operate  as  the  other  seven  did.  "i'm  inclined  to  believe  that  most  of  you  would  not  disrupt  the  peace  if  your  court.  no  high  ruler  who  cares  for  his  court  would  either.  i've  always  said  we're  at  the  whims  of  our  deities,  at  the  end  of  the  day  we  may  try  hard  but  we  will  never  their  wills.  it's  a  devil  time  for  all  us  in  the  meantime."  a  brow  raises  slightly,  "it's  not  your  skills  i  question,  rather  if  there  was  ever  a  time  here  when  it  was  needed."  it  was  a  rather  direct  question,  a  court  isolation  ever  needed  an  army  as  a  whole.

the  son  of  a  man  who  never  seemed  to  smile,  evander  hardly  grew  up  with  a  warm  and  affectionate  home  life.  he  never  really  wanted  for  anything,  lesser  nobles  of  the  dusk  court  providing  well  for  their  family,  but  a  hole  would  always  remain  in  his  heart  where  the  love  of  a  father  was  missing.  others  in  his  life  tried  to  fill  the  space,  nannies  turned  into  other  household  staff  that  wanted  to  ensure  the  young  lord  knew  love.  it  helped  to  an  extent,  but  it  seems  evander  was  bound  to  take  after  his  father  even  if  others  tried  to  stop  it.  destiny  is  a  stubborn  thing.

it  was  no  secret  in  his  youth  that  his  father  expected  much  of  him,  a  man  always  out  to  better  their  house,  ensure  future  generations  would  survive  and  succeed.  the  late  lord  voss  was  a  warrior,  and  well  known  at  that.  he  served  right  under  the  general  of  the  armies,  a  right  hand  man  if  you  will.  his  desires  for  evander  to  follow  in  his  footsteps  were  never  a  secret,  pushed  into  the  life  of  a  soldier  that  he  never  wanted.  but  the  army  was  a  good  change  for  ev,  raised  so  similar  that  he  blended  into  the  ranks  with  ease.  even  more,  he  rose  them  quicker  than  even  his  father.  the  man  may  have  had  pride  for  it,  but  none  of  it  was  for  him.  evander  set  out  to  make  his  own  name,  and  did  so  with  great  success.  only,  evander's  ambitions  were  far  more  than  that  of  the  late  lord  voss,  no,  he  wished  to  become  the  top  soldier  of  all  the  armies.

and  become  that  he  did.  evander  serves  as  the  general  of  the  armies  for  the  dusk  court.  he's  capable,  and  puts  his  court  above  all  else.  he  can  be  a  bit  secretive,  a  bit  aloof  and  to  himself,  but  it's  always  to  the  benefit  of  dusk.  people  can  question  a  lot  about  the  lord,  but  not  his  commitment.  he  is  a  soldier  through  and  through,  and  has  long  earned  the  respect  of  all  in  his  ranks.

his  messy  history  can  be  found  in  the  child  had  not  too  far  into  his  adulthood,  and  the  ex  wife  he  was  not  the  best  to.  the  marriage  ended  when  tragedy  struck.  very  few  know  the  story,  and  even  less  that  he  was  even  bonded,  but  evander  faced  tragedy  about  80  years  ago  when  his  bonded  dragon  passed  of  old  age.  it  tore  him  up  inside,  and  made  him  turn  into  a  shell  of  a  man  for  a  good  while.  he  put  nothing  above  his  job,  and  only  focused  on  passing  through  the  days.  these  days,  he  doesn't  speak  of  his  dragon  at  all,  the  memories  still  too  painful  and  has  no  intentions  to  ever  bond  again.

over  all  evander  seems  very  closed  off,  very  stern  and  no  smile  to  be  seen.  he's  not,  he's  got  a  softer  side  thanks  to  those  in  his  youth  and  his  child,  he  just  only  shows  it  to  a  select  few  people.  his  heart  is  large  for  the  dusk  court  and  his  family,  though,  not  closed  off  like  his  father's  had  been.  still,  he  always  feels  pressure  on  his  shoulders  from  the  generations  before  him  and  is  always  trying  to  live  up  to  standards  only  he  places  on  himself.
