it was unsettling, learning that upon the next day their visitors were at full power. until now, evander could relax, know that they had their full magic and could easily end any fight. now his men were on edge, and he was unable to hide his own apprehension. still, the general walked the streets, eyes alert and taking in any potential threats to his home. when he catches another seeming almost groggy, the general can't help but bite back a chuckle. " the festivities can be difficult to recover from the next day. " he was surprised to see so many up, then again, a resurgence of magic would do that.

‘ richard madden, cis man, he/him, 45 / 450 , high fae ’ ― cauldron save you. it seems EVANDER VOSS has been teleported to the dusk court, the GENERAL OF THE ARMIES from THE DUSK COURT is said to be LOYAL and is said to describe themselves with A GLASS LIKE ROOM WITH PRISTINE CONDITIONS, A MASK THAT INTIMIDATES MORE THAN WARMS + THE AIR OF CONFIDENCE + AUTHORITY EASILY MADE and with all of this in mind their SECRETIVE nature always seems to get them into trouble. may the mother hold them as they navigate this unthinkable time. ; written by honey.

the son of a man who never seemed to smile, evander hardly grew up with a warm and affectionate home life. he never really wanted for anything, lesser nobles of the dusk court providing well for their family, but a hole would always remain in his heart where the love of a father was missing. others in his life tried to fill the space, nannies turned into other household staff that wanted to ensure the young lord knew love. it helped to an extent, but it seems evander was bound to take after his father even if others tried to stop it. destiny is a stubborn thing.
it was no secret in his youth that his father expected much of him, a man always out to better their house, ensure future generations would survive and succeed. the late lord voss was a warrior, and well known at that. he served right under the general of the armies, a right hand man if you will. his desires for evander to follow in his footsteps were never a secret, pushed into the life of a soldier that he never wanted. but the army was a good change for ev, raised so similar that he blended into the ranks with ease. even more, he rose them quicker than even his father. the man may have had pride for it, but none of it was for him. evander set out to make his own name, and did so with great success. only, evander's ambitions were far more than that of the late lord voss, no, he wished to become the top soldier of all the armies.
and become that he did. evander serves as the general of the armies for the dusk court. he's capable, and puts his court above all else. he can be a bit secretive, a bit aloof and to himself, but it's always to the benefit of dusk. people can question a lot about the lord, but not his commitment. he is a soldier through and through, and has long earned the respect of all in his ranks.
his messy history can be found in the child had not too far into his adulthood, and the ex wife he was not the best to. the marriage ended when tragedy struck. very few know the story, and even less that he was even bonded, but evander faced tragedy about 80 years ago when his bonded dragon passed of old age. it tore him up inside, and made him turn into a shell of a man for a good while. he put nothing above his job, and only focused on passing through the days. these days, he doesn't speak of his dragon at all, the memories still too painful and has no intentions to ever bond again.
over all evander seems very closed off, very stern and no smile to be seen. he's not, he's got a softer side thanks to those in his youth and his child, he just only shows it to a select few people. his heart is large for the dusk court and his family, though, not closed off like his father's had been. still, he always feels pressure on his shoulders from the generations before him and is always trying to live up to standards only he places on himself.
𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
on main : ex wife + his kids
other ideas : rly open to anything, he's closed off a lot but he def is not a loner

mother hold you, EVANDER VOSS as they look for their MOTHER OF HIS CHILDREN. they are said to resemble UTP, FEMME PRESENTING and should be around the age of 45/450. though before they make their way to the dusk court they CAN BUT DO NOT HAVE TO contact HONEY ( @stxrfclls ). this would have ended about 200 years ago, in their mid 20's. they share two kids together, that are also wcs, a boy and a girl. i hc she is from a lower noble family, so she would be a lady though i am open to anything really. they were childhood sweethearts, expected to be together forever, but sadly when their children were young, she realized that evander was never going to put her above his job. he was a solider, with high ambitions, and since they had neve wed, she split from him and took the kids to live in her family estate. they had a very rocky time after the break up, but over the centuries have figured out how to coparent well, and at least get along. evander has also grown up a lot, and he no longer thinks his job is more important than his family. he definitely had a lot of changing to do, and her leaving encouraged that ! open to a lot with this dynamic, and assume things will always have an edge to them.
mother hold you, EVANDER VOSS as they look for their DAUGHTER. they are said to resemble UTP and should be around the ages of 23/230 to 24/240. though before they make their way to the dusk court they CAN BUT DO NOT HAVE TO contact HONEY ( @stxrfclls ). evander and his childhood sweetheart fell in love in their youth, and early into their adulthood had two kids. this is their youngest, and she would have an older brother. the pair never got married, content with their life, but that bright love fizzled out when she realized he would never place her over his job. evander was a different man then, but their marriage ended about 200 years ago, meaning the daughter would have been 5/50-ish. things were rocky at first, but eventually they found a way to coparent well. evander lives in the dusk palace, and i assume the kids would have lived with their mom at her estate (she is a lower noble). i would like for the kids and ev to have gotten close, as i'm a sucker for close family dynamics, but open to anything! the current hc i've been going with is that the daughter in particular has her dad wrapped around her finger. unlike their youth, he balances things better now and his children are incredibly important to him.
mother hold you, EVANDER VOSS as they look for their SON. they are said to resemble UTP and should be around the ages of 25/250 to 26/260. though before they make their way to the dusk court they CAN BUT DO NOT HAVE TO contact HONEY ( @stxrfclls ). evander and his childhood sweetheart fell in love in their youth, and early into their adulthood had two kids. this is their oldest, and he would have a younger sister. the pair never got married, content with their life, but that bright love fizzled out when their mom realized evander would never place her over his job. evander was a different man then, but their marriage ended about 200 years ago, meaning the son would have been 7/70-ish. things were rocky at first, but eventually they found a way to coparent well. evander lives in the dusk palace, and i assume the kids would have lived with their mom at her estate (she is a lower noble). the current hc i have is that the son is a lot like ev, which makes them butt heads a lot, but he still loves his son more than most things. unlike their youth, he balances things better now and his children are incredibly important to him.

" i have observed quite a bit to understand much. " he wasn't just a brute soldier, and he realized that while some may think it, they would quickly learn otherwise. all he wanted in this situation is to peacefully find these fae off his island, back in their own beds or simply out of their lands. he didn't care. to appear kind, the general could at least pretend it was a desire to see them home. " i certainly will handle any dusk fae that act in a way against any others. " he means it, too. while evander had more loyalty to those of his own court than those recently deposited, he still wished for peace, good behavior. " i do not, she has given us no reason and is owed our trust. i can understand how that is difficult for you fae, i hear you have never even seen your mother ? " prodding, perhaps, but it was a very interesting part to their story. many assumed as a general, as a warrior, he had a bonded dragon. evander did not, and would not. he didn't think he needed one to be a strong general, nor had he met a dragon that he found that shared connection with. after all this time, he stopped looking. he wasn't sharing this with the high lord. " it differs with each bond, and how long they have been paired. " he shares, knowing the creatures were of interest. " our deity, our dark mother, could have done the things you all dealt with, but we had no say. that would be similar as assuming anything done by your mother to our own was at your own hand. " he offers the reason, but doesn't expect it to be taken. this high lord seemed to enjoy poking, and ev didn't wish to give anything away. " raising my sword to an enemy does not influence my ability to do so when needed. " his tone is even, voice calm. evander doesn't take the words as a threat, he simply thinks these mainland fae are grasping where they can.
"so then you understand my concerns well." he would not deny that prythian faes were devils, and when they wished, they could wreck all sorts of havoc if the mood struck them. they were all simply behaving these days ( as well as they could ) was because of the unknowns that had followed them since the capital. that they had no idea what to expect from the dusk faes, but it seems from the brief look in the general's gaze, they were as capable of mirroring the chaos as well. both sides would not hesitate to retaliate should another step out of bounds, and he could hardly forbid his own court from using any means to necessary to protect themselves. "let us hope we will not have to worry about this on either sides." saint pauses as the other acknowledges of what had occurred at this hands of his creator prior to their arrival. in truth, the high lord also did not expect them to take it at face value, even if they had questions of their dark mother. "do you not worry your creator might ill intentions of your own court? should it suit her needs." less likely, but anything was possible, with what they've witnessed thus far. "you'd be the wiser, they are feral creatures, they don't strike me as the sort to obey every request or command." they certainly behaved as guardians of sorts, but saint doubted they would fight at the beck and call of the fae. "of course." knowing well, the general wouldn't reveal anything of his high lord. "a far fetched theory perhaps, but can you blame them? you have creatures we've only heard of in our fables. your entire court remained glamoured since it's existence. it is so unlikely to believe you have possess more magical capabilities than the rest of us? that your deity granted you far more than my own?" saint was inclined to believe they didn't have the means to do this, their deity certainly, he wished to gauge the other's reaction. "when was the last time you had to raise your sword, general?"

he knew it would be hard on jia, which is why evander was seeking her out more. having his own children had changed the general, and he felt a paternal instinct to look out for the younger ones around him. he wished he could help her more. " i know. " agrees he, unable to say otherwise. he wishes them to leave as well, and her words are all that has been on his mind all day. " try to look at it as us all sharing the common goal to get them home. if we could send them away – we would. "
she didn't do well with change. there was a horrible history that evander knew. understood. it was easier to turn a blind-eye to the movements of the world than to watch it distort, to process the ways their universe was changing. "this is terrible," she says, an honesty that she could only give to the general. "there must be a way to send them away now. they are clearly no longer defenseless."

" jia. " he warns, but his tone is light. he doesn't actually wish to scold her, not when ev is fully aware of what all is going on in the young fae's mind. " each court has a specific element, or at least a signature power. they also have healers in.. one of the courts. " his own list was being made as well, but evander knew there was more yet to learn. " i do not think they are ashamed to show such powers. "
"let them drown," she mutters miserably. she felt small. uneasy. it was nice of evander to try to lighten the mood. he was always a source of comfort for her, a kindred spirit in their journeys of grief. he understood her in ways even her parents couldn't. "you would think they might keep their cards closer to their chest, but i've been counting. fire wielders, ice, snow, earth, water... the list goes on. but that's just what we can see."

it was like a forced behavior, being charming and kind. evander never admitted his shortcomings, but he absolutely loathed this. his lack of enjoyment meant he hardly put any effort into it, and as long as he wasn't coming off entirely rude, that seemed enough.
his eyebrow raises at the mention of the night court being less than part of the mainland. amusing, how one would think the northern part of the continent was not as much part of it as the rest. it gave him even more insight into these other fae. " certainly different than an island, though. " he states simply.
a nod comes from the general, and he supposes he could be polite enough to introduce himself. " i am general evander voss, a member of the dusk court inner circle. " it sounded so pompous to say, but he also knew that not offering the position he had hard earned was an insult to it. ev didn't brag, he simply stated a fact.
ALARA tilted her head to the side - the man's words made it clear he's a member of the Dusk court & the enthusiastic side of her that had not yet had an opportunity to take a nap found the information exciting.
"Night court, so less mainland & more... way up on high-land. Top of the mountain land. Our wines are made with either spiced snow from the mountaincaps, or something equally ludicrous from below the belly of the earth. Can't say it is my area of expertise, but I could check." she shrugged.
"So. You're from Dusk court. We must be as big of a surprise to you as you are to the rest of us. To lessen at least one of those surprises, I believe introductions are in order. Alara Draven, of the Night Court." she extended a hand.

he didn't like speaking to the mainland fae, but the general knew well that to assess an opponent you would have to get close. each new face he met set unease into his belly, but as they had yet to do any harm to his court, he remained passive, appearing open to their company and kind enough in his words. even if ev was never the warmest, he could at least not be an ass. his eyebrow cocks, and he refrains from offering much else. " the wines we make are different than i suspect yours in the mainland, as the eternal dusk skies here bring a different grape into the mix. "
ALCOHOL has never been high on her list of priorities, but when festivities are in question, she is not the one to refuse. High on champagne, she tumbled back to her quarters to sleep it off and was now suffering a deadly headache - or as deadly as a headache could get without turning into a migraine.
Offering the man a friendly grin, she shrugged, and added.
"Aye, I don't drink often, but one can't refuse a dusk made champagne! I heard they simmer it for centuries on that one place where supposed eternal dusk reigns. I believe that's a tall tale, but everyone loves a good story, eh?"

evander looks over jia quickly, seeing if she were at least looking fine. he knew she wasn't, he could read her like his own child, but he didn't mention a thing. " i think there are some drunk mainlanders splashing around in the fountain, so i'm not sure they avoided the struggle. " he says, an attempt to make her laugh. but he knew she was scared, he was worried too. " i suspected, but seeing it is far different than thinking. " admits the general.
dryly, jia adds, “however, it looks like our esteemed guests have no struggle with it.” coming to the general’s side, her arms are crossed. there were more of them on the streets than the day they’d arrived, showing off their newly returned powers with profound ease. the display was disturbing, almost threatening to see a morsels of the power. but, in a way felt unwise on their part. “i didn’t know there were other powers to be had until the lantern festival.”

evander chuckles, not often the most jovial of company but also not incapable of amusement. " it is a role i enjoy serving in. " he replies easily. his mind was one set of a soldier, it was why evander did his job so well and why he knew he was a good fit for the inner circle. evander shrugs, offering a smirk to the other. " afraid any would cause chaos. " he amends, not certain how the dusk fae would act with the mainlanders in general. their dark mother taught them so much, chief among all that the fae they were kept away from were evil and selfish. while evander began to see those teachings may have come from a skewed place, he still felt on edge with so many inhabiting their small court. it was once quiet, and now rather lively, and he had yet to decide how he felt. a nod comes from the general, " from what i have heard of all you've faced, a night to relax was much needed. " it was difficult for evander to think on how he would feel were roles reversed, but he knew without certainty that the trials they faced prior to coming to the dusk court, on top of discovering a new court, was quite extensive. evander does not find the smile warming when offered from the high lord, and he knows exactly why a comment on one's beast form would do as much. he also takes it as an answer. " our dragons are creatures of their own, while i am certain they can manage many threats, i do not like to rely on them. " he didn't have a bonded beast, and evander was quite fine with that decision, and those close to him knew that he would always refuse to plan defenses based off of their winged companions. " you would have to ask him, my lord. " answers the general, hoping the other would understand he'd not be getting an answer to that question. it seemed they were both in the habit of not answering questions. a chuckle falls from the general, not amused really. " any mainland fae thinking us powerful enough to take your powers and transport you here, after centuries of us remaining hidden, ought to reassess their facts. " he doesn't talk of his powers not being enough lightly, but surely, who would think them capable of this ? fools. " i certainly do my duty well, with the skills i possess. "
"spoken like a true general." it wasn't surprising, his own general of the same thought. even in the parties of the dawn court, where they were among their court, they did not let their guard down, and it was certainly an assuring thought. "afraid some of us might run amuck and cause mayhem?" it was not unheard of, he knew his court well, but the same could not be said for the other seven. for all his knowledge of the other courts, he would never presume to know how they would be behave when such opportunities presented itself. it was tempting, the high lord of dawn would admit that should he have ill-intentions in mind, this would be a chance to do exactly so if only to see what made the dusk fae tick. assuming their winged beasts would not burn them alive should they sense any sort of danger. "they have, it is much needed for all of us, and it has done wonders for my citizens. a high ruler can hardly complain when their citizens are in a better mood." it would certainly make them more inclined to behave but he knew they would not go against their high lord and misbehave in these unknown waters. a rare smile makes itself known on the dawn lord as his gaze settles over the dusk general, "i am inclined to take that as a compliment, general. our beasts forms, in many ways, hold its own mysterious as do the winged companions of your court." he does not answer the general's inquiry directly, he senses the other knew saint would not. but he was smart to gage that the beast forms were a force to be reckoned with. "that does make me curious, does your high lord have one? or is his dragon the closest equivalent?" it was not as if the ruler of dusk made it easy to speak with him, but saint would approach the man soon. "we might have been created by two different deities, but we are similar inheritly in nature as faes, general. not one of these courts take kindly to being removed from their homes and to make matters worse, having our abilities taken as they have." a pause, "it is a belief of some that you all had something to do with it." it was not accusation, but certainly an inquiry. "your high lord would not have employed you if you were not cautious nor a keen-sighted individual."

the night had been filled with merriment, and even the general couldn’t deny how well it had gone. weary from the start, he’d calmed down, visited the vendors and spent far too much coin in his ill daughter, and watched his soliders lose their inhibitions and get dragged back to the barracks by their peers. a tightly wound fae by nature, he’d forced himself to relax a hair and not be angry the entire night. he always had a soft spot for festivities. tradition was important to the general. evander smirks, wondering if any would question what he’d gotten into the night prior. “ neither. i choose not to indulge when there are so many new faces about. ” he admits honestly. it doesn’t surprise ev that he’s been recognized, he went more days than not being identified by his own fellow dusk fae. it made sense for the mainland fae to try and learn who the important people were in their new prison. a nod comes from the man, and he’s glad to hear it even if he cares little for mainlanders. “ i’m hopeful our celebrations also helped ease some of the tensions you all hold for being shifted somewhere against your will. ” he would at least acknowledge it was difficult for the mainland fae. evander didn’t hate them entirely, he simply had his guard up and hoped things worked out for the betterment of the dusk court rather than a forcing of rules and politics. his head tilts at the others words, and ev has to bite back a chuckle. high lords seemed bold from all that he’d learned of the 7 prythian held. “ apprehension to new peers is to be expected, my lord. i am a general, it is my job to assess all as a threat. your beast form alone could ruin this court, would you not agree ? ” he doesn’t really wait for an answer. “ it would be foolish of me not to be on my guard, even if you give your word not to do such a thing. my high lord values my insight, and my caution. it is how i serve as a proper general. i do not dislike speaking to those of you from the mainland, i dislike having so many new faces to judge when they too are not too happy to be here either. it's given me quite a bit of work to do. ”
once saint would never sit idle on parties or festivities, and when it came to the dawn court's yearly celebrations, it was one of the few things the high lord looked forward to. a part of him had wished to let go, and indulge as the others did around him. given into his greater urges for a night, but he refrained, and truly he was not certain how he managed such a thing, or perhaps running into the woman who haunted his past in every conceivable manner and had placed an end to any ideas he might have entertained. instead, saint found some for of contentment simply standing on the sidelines and watching her. the very least, the high lord did attempt to be useful and studied the dusk fae, as if the night would reveal anything imperative about these people and their lands. "which one do you fall under, general evander, is it?" there was no doubt he was, saint's spies had given him enough information to identify which faces were of consequence in this court. "the goal was achieved, more so that we had a chance to mingle with you all on a closer level. i do not think any of the courts have experienced anything close to this for all hallow's eve." his head tilts as he appraised the general before him, "you all do not seem keen on mingling with your fellow courts. while i understand your court's apprehension, if we're to remain here for the foreseeable future, we will benefit far more with communication amongst us all. wouldn't you high lord agree?"

evander’s brows scrunch up with concern at the words form his daughter, hoping she’d gotten better by now. he’d been checking in as he was able, busy with his duties and hating that he wasn’t able to be more of a caregiver. “ you could check in with the other healers. ” suggests the general. he had little skill when it came to such things, but it was odd tohear any of them sick for any extended amount of time. it kept his worry high, as usual when it came to his daughter.
evelyn had been one of the few in town that hadn't been able to attend the halloween festivities, she had been slightly ill with a cold when the town had been celebrating it, and it was one of those colds that just never seemed to go away. hearing her father's voice as she tried her best to get rid of the aching headache that she currently had with some ale, she looked up at him with tired eyes. "i'm afraid i wasn't able to attend said festivities due to this annoying cold. is it normal for a cold to last a week or more, father?"

a general first and foremost, a host second. evander felt he had to toe the line between his desire to keep these fae out of his home, and the order of his high lord to be welcoming. still, the warrior knew how to behave, and he offered his usual demeanor without allowing an edge to fill his voice. in truth, he would have kept walking and not spoken at all were he on his normal behavior. this was his best. " incredibly so, but they will learn in due time. " he shares, finding amusement in the status of most of his soldiers this morning.
bastian holds no blame towards the dusk fae in not wanting to be involved with the the guests. though the longer that they hold out on them the more it furthered that they didn't really want to be involved with the other courts. the return of their magic is something that he knows the dusk court is worried over. he'd have been just as worried over it if the roles were reversed. "ah the day after a party is always a hard one on the majority."

in the army, one always trusted their commanding officer to make the best decision for them all. that was no different when it came to the general and the high lord. he understood the importance of adding an emissary to their ranks to handle navigating the new courts, hidden no longer, but he also felt it was rather amusing. their roles could go hand in hand, or be the complete opposites. aurora had done nothing to cause his distrust, and so ev remained open to her opinions and how she felt to go about things. besides, she hadn't asked him to play friendly host so that was something. the general enjoyed his privacy, and trust was difficult to earn in his book. while he would allow one to start on a blank page, he still did not wish to do so with all of the prythian fae on their island. " certainly not with so many fresh faces about. " he shares with a shrug. it wasn't even a question, he needed to remain vigilant should the semblance of peace that seemed to settle shatter in an instant. a chuckle slips from the otherwise stoney general, " not more than i expected, but still enough for the vendors to be quite thankful of my presence. "
long before aurora had the intent of joining the high lord's inner circle, she had done her homework on all of the others who had been working closely with the high family. of them, both the general and the spymaster of the dusk court struck as the most reclusive of the circle. knowing very well she was a stark contrast among most of them with her optimism. aurora was careful even in her eagerness to know the rest of prythian. as a younger girl, despite their dark mother's warning all she had wanted was to see the rest of the world. she believed their dark mother just as they all had, but it did not quell her hunger to know, to explore. in a strange turn of events, they all handed landed on her court. what did that mean? the emissary couldn't help but wonder at different points of her day. "a general could never be off his guard, now can he?" she teases, but unsurprised at the other's words. he was a father as well, and among their guests running she could sympathize with his fear for his daughter. "how much did she have you spent this time around?" a curious look in her lilac hues, but amused that this young girl had her father wrapped around her finger as aurora had with her own father.

it wasn't difficult to pick up on when someone's mind seemed to linger in the night before. were they friendly, ev would offer an ear to hear what seemed to possess the other so. but this was no such situation, and he found that keeping cordial and distant with the prythian high rulers was better than trying to offer them friendships that were not yet sincere. evander was keeping the fact that he knew who the other was to himself, speaking to him as if he were just another fae from the mainland. the general rarely let others into his mind, let his secrets out and admitted what he was thinking or knew. it was the best skill he had in his position. the joke was often that he was little more than a stoic statue. a slight chuckle slips from his lips, " the wines certainly can add or subtract from the night. " he reasons. his thoughts were only confirmed at the admission from the high lord, but he again does not push. " i am certain he shall be thankful to hear it. it had been a shared hope amongst the inner circle for our mainland visitors to see a night of celebration and fun. "
perhaps in another lifetime, the excitement of the previous evenings festivities would have catch onto the high lord of dawn. fates knew who he was when he was a young male who had been handed his every wish. the future high lord of the dawn court was never refused, that even a father as cold his own was known to spoil his eldest child. saint, instead, had spent his evening doing the worst possible thing he could have done, facing a past he had no business become involved with again. it was true what they said, the heart wanted what it wanted, and after all these years, he hadn't put away of the memory of her for good. seeing her last night, when he should have walked away, well, the high lord knew he was a fool to believe he could stay away. he glanced to the sleep-ridden individual not too from far where he and general of dusk stood. "for some more than others, it appears. perhaps its a good thing i did not touch the wines." well, he had consumed something far stronger but it had not given him the numbness he had been seeking. "i will have to pass along my praises to your high lord for such a festive welcoming."

less gruff with those he knew, it was still a far cry from friendly. evander didn't have a single complaint about adding aurora to the inner circle, a new position that was dearly needed. she'd done well, but the way they approached things was too different for them to truly be that close. he did respect her for her eagerness and commitment to her duty, though. he smirks at her joke, but doesn't offer a laugh. " it wouldn't be the wisest to lose myself in the fae wine. " he replies, not really the best joking reply but it is his best. ev has never been accused of being a trickster. " it was a fun night. i was mostly dragged around to spend coin. " his child was impossible to say no to.
