You were happily humming along to "Cinnamon Girl," your homemade cinnamon rolls nestled safely in their brown box. You were practically vibrating with excitement to get them to the bakery for the sale. Carefully placing the precious cargo in your bike basket, you set off, maybe a little too enthusiastically, because you totally ate it and went tumbling off your bike onto the sidewalk.

As you dusted yourself off, muttering about rogue pebbles, you looked up to see someone standing there. Mortified that they'd witnessed your graceful dismount, you blurted out, "I'm so sorry, omg, I'm sorry I didn't see you!" while simultaneously trying to gather your scattered dignity and the rogue cinnamon rolls. Your eyes locked with theirs.

"S'okay, you always bumping into strangers?" he said with a playful smirk, pulling you up. You probably looked like a startled deer.

"No! Never! Well, maybe sometimes," you stammered, your cheeks burning. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to – oh my gosh, are you okay?" You were a rambling mess, your hands flying around as you tried to assess them for injuries. he just chuckled, grabbing your arms to still your frantic gestures and looking right at you.

"Hey hey, it's fine. It was kind of cute, I'm okay, are you okay?" he asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners. You suddenly realized you were still talking a mile a minute to this total stranger on the sidewalk. "Yeah, I'm okay, i’m sorry" you mumbled lips pouting, feeling your face heat up even more. Smooth move, you thought. Real smooth.

He chuckled softly, a low sound. "No worries," he said, still with that little smirk. "Just try to keep your eyes on the road, bambi"

Her eyes widened a tiny bit, and before she could even think, she blurted out, "Well, not usually! It's just... you were kind of built like a tree!" Oops! As soon as the words were out of her mouth, her eyes went wide with embarrassment. Oh no, why did she say that? Her cheeks felt like they were on fire.

Rafe's blue eyes widened for a split second, and then a slow smile spread across his face. "A tree, huh?" he repeated, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Well, that's a new one. Usually, it's 'tall' or 'in the way,' but 'tree' has a certain... grounded quality to it."

She felt terrible. "Oh no, I didn't mean it like that! I'm so sorry! That was so rude of me. Please forgive me!" She was rambling again, her words tumbling out in a rush. She quickly looked down at her feet, wishing she could disappear.

Suddenly, she felt him lightly touch her arm. She looked up to see him smiling, though there was still a hint of that teasing glint in his blue eyes. "Hey, hey, it's fine," he said softly. "Really. It was... memorable. And hey," he added, looking down at the box, "at least something good came out of your tree-finding adventure."

"Oh," she said, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. "Okay. Good." She still felt a little silly, but his reaction made it easier.

"So," Rafe said, holding out the box of cinnamon rolls. "These are the weapons you were wielding with such reckless abandon?" He raised an eyebrow playfully. "They smell… surprisingly amazing for something that almost knocked me over."

She nodded, a proud smile returning to her face. "Yes! I made them for the bake sale."

"Huh," he said, looking genuinely impressed now. "Homemade? Okay, now I'm intrigued. Maybe your tree-finding skills aren't so bad after all if they led me to these."

She beamed. "Thank you! I love to bake."

"I'm Rafe, by the way," he said, holding out his hand. His blue eyes held a bit of a challenge, like he was waiting for her next unexpected comment.

"It's nice to meet you, Rafe," she replied, shaking his hand. His hand felt surprisingly gentle.

"So," Rafe said, still holding the box. "You were actually headed to the bakery with these? Planning on sharing your dangerous baked goods with the world?"

"They're not dangerous!" she protested playfully. "They're delicious! And yes, for the bake sale."

"Alright, alright," he said, a smile playing on his lips. "For the sake of everyone safety i’ll help you there. Wouldn't want you causing any more arboreal comparisons what do you say bambi"

Her heart did a little happy skip. "I'd like that very much, Rafe," she said, smiling back at him her eyes wide.
