6. Show us a bit of a WIP!
From the June chapter of my Year of OTP 2023 (yes, I'm quite a bit behind, but I'll catch up...or not. Whatever - it'll all get written eventually):
The amount of work it took to plan the wedding and reception in the span of five months – and that included working around training schedules and missions and the unplanned fights with those who didn’t really CARE that Captain America and Winter Soldier needed time to pick out a venue, catering, the cake, choose invitations (and send them out!), get fitted for suits, find someone to officiate, and on and on – was sometimes so great that Bucky thought he would go insane. Steve thought this wedding would be his villain origin story.
Tony offered several times to fly everyone to Vegas where they wouldn’t have to deal with all the bullshit; just the two grooms, their found family as witnesses, and the entire bill for the time they were there paid for by Tony himself as one of their wedding gifts. Food, fancy hotel with a lavish honeymoon suite (“We can even book you one with a heart-shaped bed and plenty of toys and gizmos to make your wedding night spectacular!” Tony had offered up.) Bucky had been tempted by the offer and to just have the planning nightmare over and done with. Steve put on his most gracious face when he thanked Tony but worried that tacky and flashy and glitzy just weren’t his or Bucky’s style.
After that, Tony had suggested they could rent a couple of huge buses and traipse over to Atlantic City for the same type of deal. Might not have the same shows with dancers barely covered in sequins and feathers, but they could have the wedding on the boardwalk, the reception in one of the finer dining establishments, and then party big at one of the hotels with plenty of gambling.
Even if Steve and Bucky hadn’t scrunched their noses at the idea of New Jersey, Loki remarking that during one of the Avengers’ missions in that state – some really trite and dumbass mission to save a shopping mall of all places from idiot wannabe villains – a couple of assholes made fun of his accent (HIS accent!) by calling it ‘fake’. So out of loyalty to his boyfriend, Tony nixed New Jersey on the spot.
13. What's a character or ship you haven't written/drawn yet but would like to some day?
I have a few ships I haven't really played with yet that I'd like to - Loki/Bruce (they were a tiny background ship in a Scott/Logan fic I wrote for @scottxlogan for Yule), Logan/Loki - and for them, I have a fic in mind for the @marvelrarepairbingo I co-mod with Scottxlogan that's based on a Loki artwork she did, Bucky/Emma Frost (again, I have a fic planned/started just barely for them for the MRP bingo), and really weirdly enough, Emma/Logan. There's also Natasha/Steve (have one planned for MRP bingo), Natasha/Tony (no ideas just yet), and Natasha/Bucky (no ideas just yet). I even have one planned for Natasha/Emma.
16. Do people irl know you participate in fandom?
Most of them do, even several of my undergrad and grad school professors. My family does - my family being my sister and brother and his wife. I think most of my non-fandom friends know as well - or have figured it out by now. A few have even read some of my fanfics.
Thanks for the asks!

hello ms. Zimmerman <3 how are you this fine evening? i have an idea for flip and his wife and kiddos. 'squishing the other’s cheek' after flip loses the game on familly game night and is grumpy, and his wife and kiddo are trying to cheer him up!
A/N: Omg I adored this prompt! Lol Flip really is such a sore loser, this request made me crack up. I hope that you enjoy this short and sweet little something!
1k, mentions of the zimmerman kiddos, fluff! (set in the Flip & His Darling Jewish Wife AU)
By all accounts, Sunday evenings should be nice evenings. You and Flip had decided a long time ago to try and do something fun with the kids, considering the day was always reserved for house cleaning and chores. Someone had suggested doing board game nights, and you had liked the idea, so that’s what you, your husband, and your gaggle of kids find yourselves up to this evening.
Sitting in the living room, everyone is cozied up in their pajamas with a couple boxes of pizza practically empty off to the side, as the coffee table is covered with scraps of paper, little metal pieces, and of course, the board. And as per usual, when Flip rolls the dice and takes his turn, he throws his hands up in the air with a scowl that has the kids laughing, because they know what’s coming.
“I fuckin’ hate this,” He starts in a way that you can almost bet money on, “You’re such a fuckin' cheater, you know that?”
“Someone’s being a sore loser.” You tease in a sing-song voice, the kids already rolling their eyes and grinning at their father’s theatrics.
“Why do I agree to this shit, no one ever plays fair, that isn't right you know, you're teaching our kids to cheat.” He points a finger in your direction, and now the kids turn to look at you, wondering how you’ll react to the accusation.
“How do you expect any of us to cheat at Monopoly honey? It's not my fault you landed on Boardwalk.” You reply, making the kids all swivel their head, this dance that they know so well will usually end up in a very funny display of their usually calm cool reserved Pop absolutely losing it.
“I don’t know how you do it! But I know you do. All of you conspire against me, I’m sure of it.” Flip mutters and scowls at his children -- his eldest son, daughter, and then the triplets -- and they take mock offense to the claim (even though usually, he’s right) before dissolving into a fit of loud giggles when he frowns, “Don’t laugh at me, it’s bad enough I’m losing!”
“Would a kiss make it better?” You offer in a teasingly condescending tone, because Flip sounds like he’s about to throw a tantrum.
“No.” He shoots back from the other side of the coffee table, crossing his arms in front of his chest, which only slightly jostles one of the triplets, who has settled himself on Flip’s lap.
“Are you sure?” You ask, and now all the kids are looking at him, and he blushes a deep crimson at that, at being so under scrutiny by his children. They’re definitely yours, he thinks, so nosy.
“...Well it couldn’t hurt.” Flip decides, and you grin, gently patting two of your daughters who had snuggled up on either side of you so that they get the hint to move so you can lean across the coffee table.
Flip stretches himself to meet you halfway, and you grasp both of his cheeks in your palms and give him a chaste kiss right on the lips, a playful smacking sound that has your youngest ones giggling.
“Did it help?” You ask, fully aware of how silly this situation is, and Flip only rolls his eyes.
“I don’t know. I think I need another one.” He tries, but before he can kiss you again on the lips, his eldest son, your six year old, immediately pipes up from his spot on the couch.
“Can I try? I want to try!” He asks eagerly, at that age where all he wants to do is help with whatever he possibly can.
“Give him a big one right on the cheek.” You smile and nod, encouraging him to walk around the coffee table.
Flip bends down so that his son can reach his cheek, and much like you did, he squishes Flip’s face and leaves a smacking smooch right on one of Flip’s dimples, because really, how could Flip not smile at the wide eyed boy?
“Did it help, Pop?” He asks, waiting with bated breath for the answer, as if this were the most important thing he’s ever done in his very young life.
“It sure did, zeeskeit, thank you.” Flip ruffles his hair, and your son happily bounds back to his spot on the couch.
“My turn!” One of the triplets announces, and you and Flip exchange an amused glance. Of course the siblings couldn’t just be left out, even for something so simple as trying to cheer up their mostly playing grouch of a father.
“Wait no, it’s my turn! I want to help!” Your eldest daughter frowns, assertive in the way that you just know she’s going to take on the world.
“No, me!” Two of the other triplets say at the same time, and you realize that if you don’t get things under control, Sunday night will go from fun board games to a brawl.
“Alright one at a time, make sure to give Pop’s face a good squeeze when you do it.” You interject with laughter in your voice, reaching for the 35mm camera silently as your children practically line up.
One by one, they squeeze Flip’s face and give him a kiss on the cheek, and you discreetly snap a couple photos for the memory albums. After all of your children have had their turn, everyone settles back down on their spots in the living room; your eldest son on the couch, your other son on Flip’s lap, and your daughters snuggled up against your sides.
“Better?” You ask, now that he has been practically smothered with silly affection by a gang of happy toddlers.
“Yeah.” Flip admits, much to the satisfaction of his family.
“Good.” You smile, pleased that this particular interlude has come to its end, so that you can get back to the matter at hand. Flip had made his move, and he had moved his piece, and landed on one of your properties, which meant, “Now, I believe you owe me two thousand dollars.”
It was all you and your family could do but to laugh, when Flip realizes he was actually in the middle of losing Monopoly, and shouts, “God dammit!”

Chapter 11
Fliss smiled as she stood looking at the stretch of St Petersburgs beach. The sugar white sands, rustic boardwalks, and the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico had made her fall in love with the place when she has first come here with Frank and Mary almost 2 years ago. It was the place her and Frank had sat on one of their early dates eating Mexican and drinking beer…and it was a stunning backdrop for the beach wedding she had always wanted.
"So the Public Access area has a large metered parking lot for you and your guests. Private condominium rentals and boutique hotels are nearby and can be a great option if you and your guests want to walk to your Wedding ceremony." The wedding planner, a small woman named Bobbi spoke "Or if you fancy there's also Pass-a-Grille or Upham..."
"No." Fliss shook her head and turned round, her eyes shining as she looked at Frank who was stood next to her. "I love this part of the beach and it’s special to us. It’s perfect. " Frank's hand tightened around hers and his mouth turned up into a smile. "I like it too." "Well that was easy!" Bobbi smiled "are you 100% sure you don't want to see the others?" "Yeah." Fliss smiled as Frank pressed a kiss to her temple. "Alright." Bobbie nodded. "So, you mentioned next September?" Frank nodded. "We don't need a brunch or reception venue, we got that covered. Just the ceremony." Bobbi nodded and tapped at the tablet she was holding. "Well that makes it a lot easier. Any specific time of day?" "Afternoon." Fliss said. Bobbi hummed before she looked at them "You're in luck. There's a slot at four pm on the twenty-sixth of September. Does that work?" Frank looked at Fliss who nodded. He turned back to the woman and smiled. "We'll take it." Bobbi nodded. "Alright. Do you wanna head back to the car and I can take the details, get the deposit paid?" "Lead the way." Frank smiled. She turned and walked back over the sand, the two of them following hand in hand. It took them about fifteen minutes or so to get the formalities out of the way, but once that was done Bobbi emailed the confirmation over and it was done. They had officially set a date. After she told them a little more about what she would need from them legally over the next few weeks she shook both their hands and said she would be in touch. They both waved her off before Fliss turned to Frank, gave a little shriek of happiness before she flung herself onto his arms. He laughed, picking her up and twirling her round, giving her a soft kiss as he set her on her feet. "Three-hundred and sixty three days to go." She smiled "Sixty-four.” Frank chuckled. "It’s a leap year next year baby." "Details, details..." She waved a hand, her gaze flickering back over the ocean as she leaned into him. He wrapped his arms around her as the stood looking at the area where they would become man and wife in little under twelve months.
“What time are you meeting Bonnie?” Frank asked, breaking the silence as he checked his watch. She should have been out for lunch with her best friend last but Mary had been violently sick on the Saturday night and really clingy to her, so they had rearranged instead for the following Saturday evening which was now upon them almost.
“Erm, half Seven. Why?” Fliss looked up at him, her shades covering her eyes.
“It’s Four now. Fancy a walk?” he nodded towards the sea.
Fliss hesitated, truth be told she wanted to get back to Alex. This was the first time they’d left him with someone else, and whilst it was her parents and she knew she could trust them implicitly, she was still a little on edge about being apart from him.
“Just a quick fifteen minutes.” Frank softly coaxed, knowing exactly what was on her mind “Then we can go and get the kids.”
Fliss nodded and the pair of them removed their shoes before they linked hands again, stepping onto the sand which was hot on their feet. The pair of them cursed and hopped from foot to foot, mumbling about how they really should know better now as they hurried to the cooler, wet sand, laughing as they walked through the light waves as they lapped around their ankles.
“So where are you going tonight?” Frank asked. “Rio’s.” Fliss replied. “Same as we planned last week. Apparently the new menu is amazing. Has a grill section, we should take Mary one night when Alex is a little older.”
“We could go now.” Frank looked at her “He’s plenty old enough. Feed him before we go, he can sleep whilst we eat.”
“Yeah, maybe.”
“Why are you so against taking him out?” Frank asked softly.
“I’m not, I take him out during the day.”
“I mean to somewhere like that.” He stopped to look at her. “I’ve suggested it a few times that we take them both out for dinner, a treat for Mary maybe, and you’ve vetoed it.
“I know, and I feel guilty enough as it is, I don’t want Mary to miss out.” “She’s not missing out.” Frank shook his head, “She’s spoiled rotten. I just want to know what the problem is. Talk to me, Honey, please.” Fliss hesitated and took a deep breath “I honestly don’t know. I just, well if he starts crying or he gets unsettled…” “Then we take him outside until he settles and bring him back.” “And if he doesn’t settle?” “Then we get the food wrapped up and take it home.” He shrugged “Lissy, babe, it’s not a big deal. You’re over thinking all of this. He’s a baby, he won’t know where he is, and if he did he wouldn’t give a shit.”
“Sorry.” She mumbled.
“Hey, there’s no need to apologise.” He took both of her hands. “I don’t wanna make you feel bad I just want us to enjoy our family time, you know. I couldn’t do any of this with Mary when she was a baby and I don’t want that for you.”
“I do enjoy family time.” She shrugged. “I honestly don’t know what it is Frank. I just feel safer with him at home. There’s no one there to look at me when he starts crying and be sat there judging me about what he’s crying for…” “Babies cry.” Frank shook his head “It’s what they do. Fuck what anyone else thinks.” “I wish I could be as relaxed about it all as you.”
“You keep saying this like I’m some kind of baby guru.” Frank arched an eyebrow over his shades “And I’m not. I had no fucking idea what I was doing with Mary. Still don’t. Look at the mess I made with the court case, sending her into Foster Care…”
“That was different.” “No, it wasn’t.” Frank shook his head. “I did what I thought was best at the time, but I screwed up. And we’re gonna screw up with Alex along the way and most likely Mary again as she gets older, it’s just a fact of life. But as long as they’re happy, safe and loved that’s all that matters.” “I know, I know.” Fliss took a deep breath as they turned to walk again. “I just don’t want to let him down. I don’t want to let either of them down. And I know I’m being stupid, I mean take earlier for example. When we left him with Mum and Dad, I cried for like half an hour.”
Frank chuckled softly. “I know, I was there.”
“Everyone told me I’d be glad to get some time away, but I’m not. I miss him already and…it’s pathetic, I know.”
“No, you’re just a new mom.” He smiled, squeezing his fingers around hers. “It will get easier, I promise.”
“I thought about cancelling tonight.” She admitted. “I was secretly glad last week was a no go, I mean I would have preferred it not to be because Mary was sick but I wasn’t ready. And that’s not because I don’t trust you with him because I do, and I know I’ve left you with him before when I’ve nipped out but it’s just…”
“Lissy, stop.” Frank shut her rambles down, dropping a kiss to her temple. “You don’t need to explain, I get it. Honestly I do, but you said you’re driving tonight so you can leave when you want to. Don’t cancel, Honey.”
“I’m not going to.” She shook her head “Bonnie would kill me. She’s really down at the moment.”
“Yeah?” Frank asked as the continued to splash in the shallow water.
Fliss nodded “She hasn’t told me what’s wrong. I’ll see if I can get it out of her tonight.” Frank pulled her closer, his hand leaving hers as he curled an arm round her shoulder and they continued to walk, talking as they did so. Eventually they reached the part of the beach which curved around the bay and headed over to the boardwalk so they could walk back to the car. As soon as she got back to her parents’, Fliss felt her earlier anxiety ebb away completely as Alex was fast asleep in the bassinet in the kitchen whilst Mary was playing in the pool with Bill and Steve. The entire family was over the moon when they announced they’d booked the date and Verity went off at 100 miles an hour talking about dresses and flowers until Bill gently reached over and squeezed her knee, reminding her it wasn’t her wedding. But neither Fliss nor Frank minded, it was nice to have their family so enthusiastic.
When Frank announced it was time to leave, Mary started protesting saying she wanted to stay the night. Frank refused, as she’d stayed the night before and he didn’t want Bill and Verity feeling obliged, but as usual Verity beamed and told her of course she could say. So they left her there and took Alex home. Once he had been fed, Fliss headed up for a shower and then contemplated what she was going to wear. Whilst she had lost the remainder of her baby bump so to speak, she was still bigger than she had been beforehand so her usual jeans didn’t quite fit yet. When she’d complained to Frank about it and said the last time she had been this size was after her accident, he had gotten a little frustrated at her, telling her that if she dared go on some stupid diet to lose it as fast as she had back then he would be seriously pissed at her. She’d bitten back, snapping at him that she knew it was out of the question. She didn’t want to for starters, as she had been so miserable when she’d been emotionally manipulated into doing so by John, and this time there was Alex to think about. If she was feeding and nursing him she didn’t want to be on some stupid crash diet. Besides which, she wasn’t eating that differently to how she had been before she was pregnant. It was the lack of exercise, as it had been back then. Frank had apologised for snapping, and she’d done the same assuring him that she would be sensible. She knew that she would lose most of it once she could go back to work and start riding again and if she didn’t, well, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Frank was constantly telling her she was beautiful and besides, what’s a few extra kilos when you have a gorgeous baby boy to show for it?
In the end she opted for a strapless, floaty lemon dress which she had worn in her early pregnancy days that flared out under her breast line and stopped just above her knees. She paired it with a pair of tan, leather gladiator sandals and left her hair down in the soft waves it dried in post her shower. She applied a little make up, smiling to herself at the fact this was probably the first time she had worn it since she had given birth. All in all, she couldn’t deny it was nice to actually feel like Fliss and not just momma bear even though the two went hand in hand now.
Grabbing her purse and dropping her lip gloss and phone inside she headed out of the bedroom and down the stairs. Frank was sat on the sofa, Alex napping in the little basket which lay on the coffee table. He looked up, blinking at her appearance and smiled softly.
“You look fantastic.”
“Thank you.” She smiled, heading over to give him a quick peck.
“You sure you don’t want me to drive you?” He offered again, nodding to Alex “He’ll sleep on the way.”
“No, honestly I’m not drinking. Well, maybe just one.” She shrugged.
“Back to grape juice instead of apple, huh?” Frank quipped and she smiled, running her finger over Alex’s rosy cheeks.
“Something like that.” She said, absentmindedly looking at her baby.
“Liss.” Frank spoke in a little warning tone, watching her and she turned to him “Go, we’ll be fine.” “I know, I know.” she nodded, taking a deep breath. “I’m going, I promise…” He chuckled and she gave him another kiss before she headed towards the door, she took a final look back at her baby and fiancée, the latter making a shooing gesture with his hands and she laughed, before she turned and walked out of the room. He heard the front door close behind her and let out a sigh of relief. He’d half been expecting her to back out but she hadn’t, she’d gone. Thankfully. He was desperate for her to go out and enjoy herself, she needed to see other people outside of their little family unit, it wasn’t healthy for her to be as isolated as she seemed to have made herself. He’d actually gotten a little worried to the point that he’d even asked his own Mother for advice and she had assured him that Fliss would settle, pointing out that it was nerve wracking being a new mum. He’d been surprised to learn that Evelyn hadn’t left him with anyone until he was almost four months old for fear something would go wrong, and that had comforted him a little to understand that this wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. It had been slightly different with Diane as she’d leaned on him to help her a lot, but then again most things with Diane had been different.
He leaned back on the sofa, picking up the remote, his eyes falling once more to the basket.
“Just you and me tonight, Son” he muttered, flicking to the TV finding the sports channel, selecting a re-run of a Red Sox game on one of the sports channels. “Time to start your education.” *****
“Oooh, how exciting!” Bonnie exclaimed as Fliss smiled, having just told her about them booking their wedding “It sounds amazing, that’s a gorgeous stretch of beach.”
“Yeah, it’s special to us so…” she smiled, and looked up as the waiter came to take their drinks order.
“Erm, do you want wine?” Bonnie asked.
Fliss hesitated for a second, before she shrugged “Just the one.”
Bonnie smiled and ordered them a bottle of Chardonnay and a large bottle of water. Once the Waiter was out of ear shot Fliss leaned forward “This way I don't need to pump and dump.”
Bonnie laughed “I always find that odd. I mean pumping and dumping doesn't get alcohol out of your system does it?” “No, but if I wanted to go out and get drunk I’d have to wait until I was sure all the alcohol had left my system before I fed him again.” Fliss shrugged “He’s already bottle fed at night so Frank can help and I wake up and my boobs are like fucking water melons so you can you imagine what they would be like after like twelve hours or whatever if I didn’t.” she shook her head. “But one glass, well my mum, midwife and Doctor Google say if I'm not feeding in the next two or three hours I should be ok.”
Their chat turned to Mary’s adoption, Fliss filling Bonnie in on how they’d begun the process legally now, Greg sorting and filing the paperwork and contacting her biological father earlier that week. So far they had heard nothing but they should start to see things progress fairly quickly once he had given his consent.
“And even if he doesn’t, Greg seems confident the court would find in our favour, Mary having been in Frank’s care since she was six months old.” Fliss shrugged, thanking the waiter as he placed the two bottles on the table. “So we’re not concerned, it would just be a lot easier and smoother if he does the right thing, you know?” The waiter finished filling both their glasses then placed the wine in the ice bucket before he then poured them each a water and asked them for their food orders. They placed them, Bonnie opting for scallops and the ribs, Fliss deciding on calamari and the steak. Once he was gone Bonnie looked at Fliss, picking up her glass.
“Do you think he will? Object, I mean.” Fliss paused, pondering for a moment “I don’t think so, I mean why would he? He made no effort to find Mary before the court case and now, even though he knows where she is, he still hasn’t so…” she shrugged, picking up her drink.
“Well…” Bonnie leaned over, holding her wine glass up “Here’s to it going smoothly and your first girl’s night out since becoming a momma.”
Fliss smiled and clinked her glass against Bonnie’s, before she took a sip and let out a soft moan “God that tastes sooo good.” “Well you could always dump the car as well as the milk.” Bonnie gestured to the bottle that lay in the ice bucket and Fliss laughed, shaking her head.
“Maybe next time.” She pulled out her phone and took a snap of her glass, sending it to Frank with the caption “Ok, so it tastes as good as I remember…” before she dropped her phone on the table.
They chatted a little more about general things, what Fliss had in mind for the wedding, the type of dress she thought she wanted, colour for bridesmaids, most of which she couldn’t answer as she had no idea really. It was odd that it was going to be her choice, but exciting none-the-less. At one point, her phone buzzed and she picked it up, letting out a chuckle at Frank’s reply to her earlier message. It was a photo of a beer bottle and a baby bottle side by side on the kitchen counter along with the words “Boy’s night in.” She showed it to Bonnie who gave a snort and Fliss placed the phone down and looked at her.
“So, what’s going on with you? I can tell you’re down.”
Bonnie fiddled slightly with her cutlery, before she shrugged “Simon’s being odd. I mean odder than normal before you say it.”
Fliss smiled and waited for her to continue.
“The last week or so, it’s like his mind is elsewhere. I’m beginning to wonder where it is, or more to the point who it’s with.”
Fliss frowned, her wine glass paused slightly in front of her mouth “You think he’s cheating?”
Bonnie shrugged “Honestly, I don’t know. Something’s going on.”
“I don’t think he would.” Fliss shook her head. “Is he not just stressed with work? Frank can get a little sullen if he’s got a lot on.” “Maybe.” Bonnie mused “He’s just normally so attentive and fun. Oh, ignore me. I’m likely thinking too much into it, it’s probably nothing.”
“You should ask him straight.” Fliss said, looking at her “Tell him how you feel, give him a chance to explain. If there’s one thing the whole Vegas incident with Frank taught me is that things ain’t always what they seem Bon. It’s bound to be something really simple that’s just playing on his mind.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” Bonnie nodded “I’ll ask him.”
At that point their starters arrived and they both started to eat, and Bonnie grinned. “So, anyway, back to your dress…you’d look fantastic in a straight, little lace number.” By the time they had finished eating and chatting, Fliss was wearing a bright, bubble-gum pink meringue complete with crystals and a sweetheart neckline to get married in-“because, you know- watermelons…” and the bridesmaids were all going to be in lime green. Fliss had told Bonnie to be careful what she was suggesting, as she didn’t think the woman’s skin tone would take kindly to be dressed in such a colour, at which point Bonnie had nearly choked and her eyes had filled as Fliss smiled and nodded, confirming that she’d just asked Bonnie to take the job. After a loud acceptance, Bonnie had jumped up and hugged Fliss, drawing curious glances from the tables around them.
Fliss dropped Bonnie at the condo she shared with Simon, along with an instruction to call her if she needed to chat again, and then she headed back home arriving just after eleven. Letting herself in quietly, she made her way into the family room and paused in the doorway, smiling at the sight in front of her. Frank was led on the sofa, Alex clutched to his chest with two strong hands, the baby boy fast asleep.
“Before you panic…” Frank spoke, making her jump a little “I’m not asleep. Just resting my eyes.”
“I wasn’t panicking.” Fliss said, honestly “I know you’d never let him fall.”
Frank cracked open his eyes and smiled. “You have a nice time?” He asked as she walked towards him. He gently shifted so he was sat up, Alex still held to his chest securely as Fliss sat next to him, peeking at the sleeping baby.
“Yeah, I did.” She nodded “The food was good. We definitely need to go.”
“Did you find out what was bothering Bonnie?”
“Yeah, she said Simon’s being odd with her.”
“Odder than normal?”
Fliss snorted, “That’s exactly what Bonnie said.” She took a deep breath. “She thinks he’s playing away.”
“Si?” Frank looked at her. “No, absolutely not. In fact, she couldn’t be further from the truth if she tried.”
“What do you mean?” Fliss frowned and Frank hesitated.
“He told me last week, and this cannot go any further as he will kill me, but he’s gonna propose.”
Fliss’ mouth dropped open before her face split into a grin “No shit?”
“Yes shit.” Frank nodded, smiling “Told me when he was drunk in Fergs.” Fliss leaned back against the cushions on the sofa, and her smile slipped a little “Oh crap.”
“What?” “I told her to talk to him, ask him what the problem was.” “Sensible advice in normal circumstances.” Frank shrugged “Don’t sweat it, it’ll be fine.”
“So when’s he gonna ask her?”
“No idea.” Frank shrugged “He didn’t say.”
“Did he not ask for ideas?”
Frank snorted. “I’m the last person he should be asking. I was carrying your damned ring around for weeks trying to find the right moment. I almost did it by the tree at the Rockefeller centre, and then that ass hole beat me to it.”
Fliss gave a soft laugh as she shook her head “The way you did it was perfect.” “Yeah, I got there in the end.” He grinned.
At that point Alex stirred a little, making a few gripey noises before he began to get more restless, rooting against Frank’s T-shirt. “Think he might be hungry.” Frank smiled “Good timing Momma.”
Fliss chuckled and took Alex in her arms, adjusting her top as Frank stood up, heading to the kitchen “You want a drink?” he tossed over his shoulder.
“Yeah, camomile tea if there’s any going?”
Frank put the kettle on to boil and watched from the counter as his girl nursed their baby, a deep sense of contentment brewing in his stomach, along with the usual low-key arousal he felt whenever she was doing anything with their son. Seeing her interact with his baby, the baby she’d carried and given birth to was purely amazing and he loved watching it. He made her a tea, grabbed himself another beer and then sat down next to her as she finished up feeding and he offered to take Alex to wind him as she sorted herself out and had her drink. Eventually he settled again and went back down, leaving the two of them to snuggle up on the couch. They stayed together for half an hour or so before Fliss yawned and said she needed to sleep.
“I’ll take him up. You coming?” she asked.
“I’ll be up shortly.” Frank promised as she sat up, cracking her neck.
“You gonna watch porn and jerk off?” She teased and Frank sighed, shooting her a look.
“You’re not funny.”
“Not trying to be.” She shrugged, leaning over to kiss him softly.
“What would you do if I was?” He mumbled against her lips and she paused, pulling back slightly, arching her eyebrows.
“Well, I’d probably have to remind you that the real thing is much better.” She said, her hand gently cupping at his crotch.
“Okay, you need to stop.” Frank’s voice was a low whisper before he let out a groan as she ignored him completely, her grip growing harder. His hand wrapped gently around her wrist. “Lissy, seriously…” “Oh, shut up.” She mumbled, before she shook off his grip and snaked her hand into the waistband of his shorts, taking his hardening member in her hand. She gave it a light pump or two before she pulled at his shorts, and he lifted his hips slightly to allow her to pull them down.
“Baby, seriously, you don’t-.” His protests died in his throat as Fliss bent down and took him to the back of hers.
*****
“Well, I’m happy that everything seems ok and back to normal.” The Ob Gyn smiled at Fliss as she moved away from where she had been examining her “So if you feel ok in yourself, no physical pain, nothing…” “Nope, nothing at all.” Fliss shook her head
“Well then Miss Gallagher your life can go back to normal” she smiled, “Well, as normal as it is 6 weeks post giving birth.”
Fliss smiled “So I can start riding again?”
“Yup, as long as you make sure you take it easy. As with anything, you won’t have used certain muscles in a while so be careful.”
“Ok.” Fliss nodded.
“Are you going to continue breast feeding?” the woman asked and Fliss nodded.
“Yeah, which is something I wanted to talk to you about. What contraception can I use?”
“There’s condoms obviously, I can prescribe the mini pill or there’s the IUD.”
“Is an IUD safe?” Fliss asked, “I don’t want to use condoms and to be honest, with my baby brain I’ll probably end up forgetting my pill. That’s what led us here in the first place and that was before I’d had a baby.”
The Doctor chuckled. “To be honest, the most effective contraceptives are intrauterine devices and they’re perfectly safe despite what you might read on the internet. The Mirena IUD releases a very small amount of hormone into the uterus, where it works locally and it won’t affect the quality and quantity of breast milk, and it’s also safe and effective for five years. It’s a good choice, one I prefer to recommend when I can.”
Fliss nodded “Ok, that seems like a good choice. How do I get one fit?”
“I can do it now if you want.” The woman smiled “And the best bit is it works immediately.” “Straight away?” Fliss looked at her “So…” “Yep.” The Ob Gyn smiled “You can go straight home and jump his bones if you so wish.”
Fliss laughed, and contemplated the woman’s words for a second. She did want. Truth be told she’d been low key horny since she’d blown Frank off on the couch a fortnight or so ago, but hadn’t wanted to rush anything, choosing to wait instead for the all clear at her 6 week check-up. Now, well, there was nothing stopping them getting physically close again and the thought drew a smile to her face. She couldn’t wait to have her Sailor holding her again.
“Okay, yeah” She nodded to the woman who smiled.
“I’ll sort the paper work, grab my kit and be right back.” The doctor smiled.
Driving home Fliss had all sorts of thoughts about how to make their night special. Romantic candles perhaps, maybe a little nice underwear…that is if she could find any that fit her still.
But of course, best laid plans and all that. In reality, the evening unfolded like any other, with shitty diapers, breast pumping, and a dinner eaten while taking turns bouncing a six week old baby in their laps as he had chosen that particular night to be awkward about settling after his feed, it was almost as if he could sense what Fliss had in mind and was doing his best to veto her plans.
Around nine pm once Mary was in bed and Alex had been bathed, changed and fed, Fliss slipped away to prepare her body for its first round of postnatal coitus. She took a bath to unwind and shaved her armpits and legs. She also considered tackling her lady bush, but realized that her razor wasn’t sharp enough for that jungle right now so Frank was just going to have to deal with the crotch afro if he wanted a bit.
She climbed out of the bath and wrapped herself in her robe, heading into the bedroom where she dried off and set about her skin care routine before she decided to go the whole hog and paint her toenails a deep crimson colour, replacing the shimmery baby pink that she had done a few weeks ago as celebration she could finally see her damned feet again. Then she shed her robe and stole a quick look in the mirror. All things considered she conceded she didn’t look too bad. She wasn’t so much bothered by the extra pounds but more so slightly disturbed by the way they seemed to have positioned themselves on her body. It was almost like small, flesh-coloured bread loaves stapled to her belly. But, like she knew she could sort most of that out with riding and getting more active again, what she wasn’t sure exercise would do anything for was her breasts. They were large, which in itself wasn’t a problem, on the contrary in fact, as Frank was a self-proclaimed boob man, but her nipples had starburst over her breasts without any clearly definitive ending points. She was debating whether or not to try and put a little foundation on them, to tone down the nipple extravaganza but stopped herself, realising she was being utterly fucking ridiculous.
This was Frank she was preparing for. The man she’d been with for years, her fiancée whose baby she had carried and given birth to. And she knew he loved her, starfish nips or not.
She set about finding some suitable underwear. She had a few nice sets, some she had bought for herself, some Frank had purchased for her but as she laid them out on the bed she knew she wouldn’t feel comfortable in any of them. Continuing her search she finally found a pair of black lace briefs that skated along her ass cheeks and a black sheer negligee that she had worn a few times pre- pregnancy, in particular one very raunchy night where she’d surprised Frank by wearing it in the kitchen one evening when Mary had been at Roberta’s, cooking their dinner as if it was perfectly normal to be dressed that way. Dinner had ended up burnt, the smoke detectors going off, and they’d sat curled up with a Thai take out and all the windows open in an attempt to rid the place of the smell of cremated lamb chops and potatoes.
She shimmied into it, and to her delight it fit, even if her breasts were a little larger. They spilled over the top but her cleavage looked Elizabethan in a sexy way, and she grinned as she knew exactly what Frank was going to say about that. Finally, she removed her hair form its high bun, which had served nicely to give it some volume and fluffed it up and decided that the overall effect was actually pretty good.
She lay back on the bed, grabbed her phone and turned it into selfie mode, angling it just right so that she could get the full effect before she checked it, and fired it to Frank with a downright filthy message accompanying it and lay back to wait.
***** Frank had nodded when Fliss had said she was tired and needed to go to bed, and promised he’d be up in an hour or so, wanting to give her the time to just unwind. She’d been for her 6 week check-up and had assured him that everything was fine, but her general demeanour told him she was keeping something from him.
Trying not to think about it too much, he settled Alex down and flicked over to catch a re-run of Game of Thrones. It was the Battle Of The Bastards, his favourite episode of the entire series, and he was just mumbling to himself, calling Rickon Stark a ‘dumb ass mother fucker’ for not zig-zagging when his phone went. He absentmindedly reached for it, wondering if it was Simon telling him he’d finally grown a pair of balls and proposed, but it wasn’t, it was Fliss.
He opened the message and as soon as he saw the image he spluttered and the soda he had just taken a drink of dribbled straight down his shirt.
“Jesus fucking Christ.” He choked, wiping at the spilled Fanta, as he stared at the photo. His girl was led on the bed, in a sheer negligee, her hair fanning over the pillow, eyes bright and mischievous and the shot was angled to give a perfect shot of the top of her cleavage. It was accompanied with the words. “Oh I forgot to tell you, your favourite legs are back open for business…”
“You devious little minx, Miss Gallagher.” He mumbled, suddenly understanding exactly what it as she’d been hiding from him, and his cock stirred in his pants. In a flash her was up off the sofa, shoving Thor out of the door so he could pee before he locked up, gathered Alex in his arms and made his way up the stairs as fast as he could, letting the dog into Mary’s room as he was scrambling at the door to get in.
“What kept you?” Fliss asked as he walked into the room, gently placing Alex in the bedside crib, making sure the blankets were arranged carefully.
“Well you kinda caught me off guard.” He smirked, lifting an eyebrow as he gently lowered himself over her on the bed, tugging her hips and pulling her down slightly before he propped himself up on his elbows, caging her between his arms and legs. “You look sexy as fuck, momma bear.” Fliss let out a grin as his lips met hers, and his eyes lowered to her cleavage and he gave a groan. “And I’m not supposed to touch these?”
“No.”
“At all?”
“Not unless you want a face full of milk.” She looked at him.
“Is it strange I find that a little kinky?” Frank grinned and she blinked, shaking her head with a snort.
“You have issues.”
“Yeah and right now they’re in the trouser department.” He mumbled, dropping his lips to hers “I nearly choked when you sent me that message.”
“You like?” She purred gently and he let out another groan and nodded.
“I did, I do. A lot.” His lips pressed to hers again. The kiss quickly became heated, his hands tangling in her hair has he held her head still, and then he felt her pull away a little, and he frowned as she looked at him, biting her lip.
“What’s wrong?”
"Is it weird that we’re like gonna have sex with our baby in the same room? Can he see us?” she asked, her head rolling to look at Alex. "No, he can't even focus yet, and it’s not weird. I’m a modern man.” Frank replied, his hand cupping her cheek and turning her face back to his. “This is how it’s done. It’s probably very European of us actually." "Frank I'm from England." She rolled her eyes. "Lissy." Frank sighed softly, “Look, if you don't wanna..."
“No I do, I really do.” She took a deep breath “Sorry, I just…” “It’s okay.” He gave her a soft smile, before his lips found hers again. In between the dizzying kisses Frank moved his right hand, his fingers gently tracing up the outside of her thigh and under the hem of the sheer lace slip she was wearing, and his mouth moved to lightly trail kisses across her bare collar bone. With a soft sigh she nodded, acknowledging his unasked question and his lips moved downwards peppering warm, open mouthed pecks across the swell of her cleavage, careful to take his time and stay gentle. Fliss let out a shaky whisper of his name, her hands tangling into his hair as he moved his affections upwards slightly, skimming his nose up her sternum, nudging her chin back so he could turn his affections back to her neck. This time her gentle whisper became a loud groan which she stifled with her hand as he nipped at her neck and he felt her shiver underneath him.
“You okay?” he asked quietly, looking down at her. She nodded and with a wicked quirk of his eyebrow he stood up, scrambling out of his clothes as fast as he could before he fell forwards again, his hands pulling down her underwear, lips kissing at the spot just below her ear.
Fliss was utterly gone now, consumed by the sensations she hadn’t felt in so long and she tilted her head back, sighing softly as Frank continued to nibble at her neck, settling himself above her. His fingers gently dropped between her legs and he felt her slick against the tips as he gently coaxed at her clit, continuing until she was nothing short of a writhing mess clawing at his back, aching for him. They locked eyes as he took her left hand in his, and slowly worked into her, both moaning simultaneously at the sensation, Fliss’ eyelids fluttering shut as she felt him fill her before the flickered open again and she looked up at him.
“Go steady.” She whispered and, with a gentle nod, Frank began to move his hips slowly, displaying nothing but absolute tenderness in his thrusts which weren’t measured in the slightest. His free hand kept hold of her hip, keeping her as close as she could possibly be, enjoying the sensation of once more being inside her, in top of her, surrounded by her.
Meanwhile, Fliss was just as lost, but in her own thoughts. For some reason as good as she had felt before, now she was starting to panic a little, that stupid voice in her head mumbling all sorts of dumbass thoughts.
Okay, this feels familiar. Sex feels the same. Does it feel the same for him? Is he taking longer than normal? Oh shit, maybe I’m super stretched out and it’s terrible. Maybe I’m different now, and I’ll never be as good. Maybe I was never THAT good to start with though? I’ll ask… “Is it good? Is it the same as it was?” She gasped out and Frank stilled, looking down at her.
“What?” He panted slightly. "I asked does it feel the same? I mean..." Frank leaned down, gently rubbing his nose against hers. “It’s great … it feels really good.” He reassured her and she nodded.
“Okay, you can go a bit faster…”
“I don’t want to.” He mumbled, giving her a deep kiss. And he didn’t. He was enjoying the slowness of it all, and he kept his lazy thrusts aimed perfectly on her spot, drawing those delectable sounds from her throat. Fliss’ senses were on fire, and she broke the long, lazy kiss that they were sharing to stifle a moan against his shoulder when she felt herself starting to unravel.
And then…
A loud cry came from the basinet. They both stilled, looked at one another, and glanced over to the side of the bed. Silence, no movement bar the waving of a little arm.
"He's going to cry.” Fliss stuttered between her deep breathing “If he cries, do we stop? Is it child abuse if we keep going until we finish?" "He's stopped." Frank turned his head back to her. “What if there's something wrong and we’re here just boning."
Frank shut her up with a languid roll of his hips and she gave a soft gasp, her hands grasping at his biceps.
“Liss, he’s fine.”
“'We’re the kind of negligent parents…oh fuck.” She whimpered as he tilted his hips again. “The one’s you’d see in a movie like Trainspotting."
He shook his head, pulling out a little before he sank back into her, her body moving with his slightly and she looked up at him.
“When the police ask what happened, do we lie? Or do we say we were having sex while our baby quietly suffocated a few feet away?”
“For fucks sake Lissy.” Frank spluttered in frustration. “You gave me a blow job the other week on the sofa and he was asleep in the basket on the coffee table.”
“That was different” “How?”
“We were on the couch and I wasn't naked.” “You’re not naked now.” He shook his head. “Will you shut up and let me make you feel good?” Her random, stupid worries stopped and she closed her eyes, nodding, and he started his movements again. It didn’t take him long to get them back to where they were, his thrusts deep and he picked up his pace ever so slightly, her hands flying to his bare back as she gripped him tighter, wanting to feel all of him, as close as she possibly could. His lips found hers and she took the kiss, it left her breathless as the heat began to rise in her belly and she let out a soft moan, which he swallowed with his mouth where it morphed into his own low, mumble of her name as he felt her clench around him.
The sheets rustled underneath them both as their pace continued slow and languid until the very end when Fliss’ let her head tip back, her throat bared to Frank in utter bliss as she came hard, the world spinning around her, her moans soft and breathy as her legs trembled, sheer pleasure spearing through her entire body. At that, after actively fighting back his high for what felt like an age, Frank gave a low grunt which tuned into a gasp as he clung to his girl, spilling himself into her, his hips slowing to a stop as he collapsed forward.
“That was fucking great.” His voice was muffled as his face pressed into her neck, and Fliss felt herself flush. She let out a chuckle as her hands gently slid up his back and into his hair.
“Yeah, we still got it Sailor.” She quipped and it was Frank’s turn to chuckle as he moved and pressed a soft kiss to her lips.
And then Alex did erupt into a full on screaming fit. Frank found himself thanking his son that he’d at least had the good grace to wait until he’d finished. He rolled off Fliss, landing on his back, hand running through his hair as she sat up and scooped Alex into her arms, sitting up against the headboard with him held to her, in the bed where his parents’ sinful deeds were likely still detectable. Frank looked at her, then to Alex whose tiny face was creased up in a loud wail as Fliss held him to her chest, trying to soothe him and he arched an eyebrow. "I take it the post sex snuggling is out?"

We All Neee The One Friend
Chapter 6
"I got all the fun we need for this weekend right here." J.J excitedly announced, showing off his portable fun box.
The guys rolled their eyes playfully, but J.J was completely serious.
"We know your kind of fun, Jay." Jordan chuckled, about to let J.J down. "And not to burst your bubble, man, but I don't think we came down here for that kind of fun."
"Maybe later." Asher agreed. "Spencer needs help going through the stuff inside."
Pouting, J.J groaned desiring to start the party. "Fine, but afterward we are going have some fun. Especially, Spence."
The boys headed inside while the girls took a stroll around the wooded area surrounding the cabin.
"I really shouldn't be out here, you guys. I'm super behind on my college apps." Simon sulked, walking beside Layla and Olivia.
"You need to loosen up, alright." Layla encouraged, knowing how overwhelmed her friend was these last few days.
"That's easy for you to say. You've probably finished all of yours." Simone moaned, angered by her lack of priorities.
"Yeah, but I haven't had as much going on as you either," Layla recalled Simone's last few months. "From being pregnant, to dealing
with giving up your baby, I'd say you have a good excuse."
"At least, tell me you are in the same boat." Simone plead with Olivia who gave her a sad smile in response.
"Sorry," Liv mumbled, "I didn't have a lot going on over summer break. Starting my college apps was a time filler for me."
"Ugh, let's talk about something else. Both of you are making me feel like an underachiever." Simone groaned, fed up with herself.
"Good idea." Liv and Layla agreed, attempting to lift the strain off Simone.
Simone's eyes fell to the sight of Vanessa helping Asher collect wood for the small bonfire they planned for tonight. "Aye, I've noticed that Vanessa and Asher -"
Layla coughed roughly in the middle of Simone's statement to keep from an awkward conversation. Shaking her head she signaled for Simone not to go there.
"What? What am I missing?" Simone asked, glancing between the other two girls as they each other knowing expressions.
"It's fine, Layla." Liv dryly stated, finding it pointless to hide Asher's summer secret.
"What's fine?" Simone asked.
"So it turns out that Asher and Vanessa met each other in Mexico during summer." Liv revealed to Simone.
"Woah." Simone gasped.
"Not, Woah." Olivia sighed. "He didn't cheat on me with her. They just formed a close bond, like... I don't even know." Liv dragged out, unsure what went on between Asher and Vanessa.
"Cheating or not. If you ask me, she shouldn't be hanging around like she doing." Simone spat. "It's disrespectful towards you."
"I don't even care." Olivia shrugged off the recollection of Asher's summer fling. "Asher says nothing happened, so I am not going overthink it."
"I am not sure whether to applaud your trust in your man or to be concerned that you're not more apprehensive," Simone observed Liv's disinterest.
Thinking hard of what Simone stated, Layla began to wonder if Liv might have a secret of her own.
------------------------------
"Don't tell me you guys mixed up the piles." Spencer moaned frustrated by the thought of having ro redo all of the organizing the keepsakes from the junk.
"I didn't even know there were two different piles." J.J revealed, his cheeks flushed from embarrassment.
"Guess we're restarting." Jordan pouted.
"Do we have a chance?" Asher huffed, wondering how the four of them got their wires crossed during the organizing.
"Alright, so is this junk or keepsake?" J.J inquired, shaking around a small dusty box. "Something is in here."
"Let me see that." Spencer insisted before J.J might accidentally spill the containments out.
"What's in there, Spence?" Jordan questioned, curious to know what secret treasures Corey might be left behind.
"Letters," Spencer responded with convection of surprise. "Addressed to me and Dillion." He added, looking through the stack of sealed letters dated after his Pops first left years ago.
Their conversation was cut short by Vanessa's cry for assistance with the grill.
"Here I come, boo." J.J chuckled, goofily skipping from the room to help his date.
"No way, am I leaving the grill to those two." Asher moaned, following right after J.J to ensure they didn't burn the place down.
"Like you're any better than the two of them." Jordan chuckled, ready to follow suit. Halting in his steps, he spun around to check on the person that was supposed to matter at the moment.
"Hey, Spence, you good?" Jordan inquired, noticing that Spencer's focus centered on the unread letters.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, don't worry about me." Spencer assured his close friend. "Make sure they don't burn my Pops' place down." He laughed to cover up his anxiety.
Sensing that Spencer needed a moment alone with his thoughts, Jordan conceded, leaving him isolated.
---------------------------
Somewhere between failing to start
the grill for dinner, and debating on games to play, the crew found themselves in a war of water guns.
However, Layla's fun ended at the sight of her boyfriend through a nearby window. Seated in the love seat, Spencer remained alone, contemplating what to do with his Pops' letters. Engrossed within his mind, he failed to notice Layla's presence.
"Are you alright?" Layla asked, wanting Spencer to feel comfortable confiding in her about the things racking his brain.
"Turns out my Pops wrote me and Dillion while he was away." Spencer chuckled emotionless. "He wrote a letter to me and Dillion on every birthday that he missed after he left. But he never sent a single one."
"Did you read any of them?" Layla asked, sitting on the arm of the love seat to be near Spencer.
"I'm not sure if I should," Spencer admitted. "There are so many questions I wished he was here to answer. His letters could hold some of the explanations, but it's possible they won't." He explained in a quick rant.
Trying to relate to Spencer's situation, Layla thought back to when she finally allowed herself to go through her late's mother's belongings.
"I know it's not the same, but I remember the repercussions of going through my mom's song lyrics." Layla detailed from last year's events. "I thought the lyrics might help me to understand what she might have been going through before she died." She sighed sadly. "Truth is, reading those lyrics left me with more questions than answers."
Spencer nodded, comprehending where she was coming from.
"I can't tell you what Corey was thinking when he wrote these letters," Layla conceded, knowing that fact was beyond anyone's ability. "But maybe there is a good reason why he never sent the letters. Maybe he didn't want to leave you and your brother with more questions, than answers."
"So you don't think I should read them," Spencer concluded from his girlfriend's comparison.
"That's your choice." Layla asserted. "But, hey, it's not a choice you need to make right now." She implied, suggesting he take a break from his inner thoughts to have some fun. "C'mon."
Grabbing his hand, she leads Spencer away from the letters and his conflicts, dragging him outside to join in the fun.
The game of water wars continued for another half an hour before everyone drifted to their activities. While everyone helped out in the kitchen, preparing a good grilled meal, Spencer couldn't let go of his intrigue.
In the end, his curiosity won, forcing Spencer to commence reading the letters. Starting from a more recent year, Spencer delved into a letter that documented his father's spiteful side. Inside the letter, Corey revealed his reason for leaving was because of the one-time affair between Coach Baker and Spencer's mom.
Hatred garnished each sentence as Corey vented about his rough history with his former best friend and wife. Stunned by the harsh torment of his father's words, Spencer released a sigh of relief once he reached the closing sentence of the letter. Advising his son to beware of those closest to him, Corey precisely conveyed his perception of treachery in his final statement.
Stopping in his steps on the path through the wooded area, Spencer folded the letter closed, unsure if he should read another one. His confliction attracted him to a region of serenity.
Reaching the lakeside where he bonded with his late father over a traditional pastime of fishing, Spencer sat in a lawn chair watching the marine life as his mind wandered into deep reflection.
From afar, Olivia observed Spencer's anxious mannerisms. Noting how his hands clenched to a rusted box, that she assumed contained the letters from his late father. Only knowing what Jordan disclosed to her earlier about their findings, Olivia summed up that Spencer might need a listening ear.
Although they were in a strange place, Liv refused to turn away when Spencer needed her. Like an unspoken vow between the two of them, Liv wanted Spencer to understand that --- no matters what problems they carried-- he was never alone.
Following the motions of so many summer nights that they shared, Olivia made her way over to Spencer ready to help with whatever he required.
"Damn, you showed those letters who's boss." Liv joked, approaching Spencer as he tossed the box down on the boardwalk.
Cracking a small smirk, Spencer played along. "Someone had to."
Sitting down in the empty chair next to Spencer's seat, Liv inhaled a breath of the fresh, outdoor air. Following her actions, Spencer sniffed the tranquil atmosphere.
"We can talk about it," Liv spoke lightly, breaking their silence. "Or not talk about it." She added, knowing somethings people needed to figure out for themselves. "Whatever you need."
Spencer nodded, glad to have her at his side for either. "I hoped reading these letters would ah.." He sighed, trying to piece together an explanation. "I don't know. I hoped they'd be like a....ah.."
"A gift." Liv finished for him.
"Exactly." Spencer agreed, surprised that she took the right word choice out of his mouth. "But my Pops was so angry. He blamed my moms for everything, even for the choices he made." He explained, disappointment coating his tone. "And I ah, I don't want to remember him like that." Spencer decided, striving to keep the happy memories of his father, rather than recalling Corey's cold side.
From a few feet away, Asher watched the interaction between his girlfriend and Spencer by the lake, while he grilled on the porch deck. Carrying a plate of cobbed corn, Layla accompanied Asher around the grill.
She hadn't noticed his stressed expression as he observed Liv and Spencer from afar. "They seem closer than ever."
Layla's brows furrowed, confused by whom he referred to. Following the line of his sight, her vision landed on her on the scenery of her boyfriend in a deep conversation with her best friend.
The smile that she expressed when she first arrived outside inadvertently faded. Despite her best efforts of attempting to ignore the new intimacy between Spencer and Liv, Layla continually felt envious of their cozy friendship.
"Have you wondered just how much did we miss being gone this summer?" Asher inquired, his eyes pulling from the scene by the lake to analyze Layla's cold exterior.
Feeling that she wasn't ready to answer his question, Asher spared one last glance to Liv and Spencer before striding inside the cabin.
Glued to the view of the intense discussion between her boyfriend and Olivia, Layla realized that she desired nothing more than to know the answer to Asher's question.

A/N: Just a little birthday story. Partial M.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Bye, baby girl. Daddy loves you.” He peppers her little cheeks with kisses, earning him a smile indentical her mama’s.
Kensi watches as her husband hands off their baby girl to his mom and once Julia and Roberta leave with Athena, she pulls Deeks to the back of the room away from everyone else.
She closes the distance between them, bringing her lips to his for a quick kiss. “Have I told you how much I love you lately?”
He smirks, tapping his index finger against his chin. “Maybe once or twice.”
“I love you.”
“I love you more.”
She places another kiss to his lips before pulling back and reaching behind a table for something.
Her demeanor suddenly shifts to one that he doesn’t see often, uncertainty. Gladly accepting the wrapped object out of her hands, he shakes it before the taring begins. “What’s this?”
“Just a little something I had made.”
Flipping open the book, his eyes immediately go wide surprise as the images of the pages fill his view. He looks up quickly, scanning the room to make sure no one is in their vicinity before his eyes are glued back to the book.
As he continues to turn the pages, he can feel the tightness in his jeans begin to grow, which is unfortunate because they’re in public right now, but he wouldn’t be able to stop himself if he tried.
Each page filled with images of the beautiful brunette that he’s so deeply in love with. She always looks sexy to him but this, this is...wow. There are photos of her in different seductive positions on their bed, in a chair, on the floor, wearing nothing but blue lace “Uhhhh.”
“Do you like it?”
“Yeah, uh...” He clears his throat trying to get words out but it’s useless.
“I was feeling kinda frumpy since I had the baby and one of the girls suggested I do a boudoir photo shoot to get my confidence back and I liked it so much I thought I’d give it to you.”
He doesn’t move, but he can feel the heat rushing through his body like a raging inferno.
“Do you-do you not like it?”
His throat is dry, but he’s finally able to force a few words from his lips. “Water. I need water.”
He begins turning the page once more only to be met with a wardrobe change and the deepest, darkest, most seductive shade of red he’s ever seen contrasting against her olive toned skin.
The small moan that escapes his lips brings a smirk to her face. “I’m not sure if I like the blue or red better.”
“Red. Def-definitely red.”
“Too bad, there’s still all these people here.”
“Yeah, too bad.”
Deciding to put him out of his misery, since it is his birthday after all, she closes the book in his hands and ushers him towards their friends. “Guys, we’re gonna go ahead and head home.”
They exchange hugs with each of their friends, thanking them and head towards the door as they all yell out one last Happy Birthday to Deeks.
As they make their way across the semi-empty parking lot of the restaurant, Deeks looks over his shoulder making sure none of their friends followed them out. Once they reach the truck he sees that the coast is clear and quickly grabs hold of her, pressing her against the passenger side door, his lips immediately finding hers as he presses his body against hers.
“Mmmm.” She can’t help but moan at the feeling of his lips on her skin and his hardening cock pressed against her thigh. “Someone’s excited.”
His thigh finds its way between hers, immediately gaining a reaction from her as she grinds her wet pussy against him, the only thing separating them being the lace of her panties and the cotton of his pants. “How could I not be after giving me a book like that?”
“So you like it?”
His lips work their way from her jaw down her neck. The book in question held tightly in his free hand. “Like it? I want to read it every night before bed.” With out much care as to where they currently are, he thrust his pelvis against hers, telling her just how much he loves it. “God, you’re so sexy.”
“No, I’m not.”
“Shut up.” There’s no mallace behind his words, he just hates the way she sees herself lately. Maybe he’s not doing enough to show her how much he absolutely loves her new body, just like he loved her old body. “Kensi, you’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever met. Your body is more beautiful than ever, especially because its where you carried our baby, our beautiful baby girl for 9 months. Baby, you’re more beautiful now than the first day I met you. So just stop, okay? Because I don’t like you talking about the love of my like that.” Shaking his head, his lips find hers again, his tongue swipe across her lips asking for entrance and is immediately granted access.
Once air becomes scarce, they pull back trying to catch their breaths. Kensi’s hand finds the side of his face, her eyes so desperately conveying everything she feels for him. “Do you know how much I love you?”
“I think I have an idea, but I do like to be reminded from time to time.”
That spark in her eye shines bright as her hand glides down his chest and closer towards his hard cock, undoing the button of his pants, she slips her hand between his skin and boxers.
He’s not really sure what’s gotten into his wife. Maybe it’s because it’s his birthday or maybe it’s because they haven’t had sex in six weeks, perhaps it’s both. Whatever the reason is it doesn’t stop the moan from escaping his lips as she glides her hand up and down his shaft. “Baby, not-not here.”
Looking around, she tries to find a place where they’re least likely to get caught, when something catches her eye and it sparks a memory of him telling her about one of his fantasies.
Taking his hand, she guides him away from the truck and across the boardwalk towards the beach. As night falls, they walk across the sand, towards the unoccupied lifeguard stand when reality finally kicks in. “Baby, are you joking right now?”
Pulling him up the ramp, the seductive smile she sends his way makes him more excited than nervous. Bending down, she takes a bobbiepin from her hair and picks the lock before stepping inside. “Does it look like I’m joking?”
Sticking his head out to make sure no one saw them, he then shuts the door and sits the book down on the shelf. “We’re gonna get caught.”
“No. No, we’re not.”
His next refute dies on his lips as turns around and watches as she slowly strips off her dress revealing the same deep dark red he saw in the photos earlier. “Happy Birthday to me.”
Warnings: Bad Language words. SMUT (NSFW) NO UNDER 18s!
Pairing: Frank Adler x Fliss Gallagher
A/N: Ok, so I had a LOT of fun with this one. I have never had a baby myself, but my best friend tells me some hilarious tales about all sorts of stuff- she has no filter…and neither do I in this chapter. I apologise in advance…
Chapter Song: Whole Lotta Rosie by AC/DC
Series Masterlist // WIYPT Masterlist
Wanna tell you a story, about a woman I know, when it comes to lovin’, she steals the show.
Fliss smiled as she stood looking at the stretch of St Petersburgs beach. The sugar white sands, rustic boardwalks, and the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico had made her fall in love with the place when she has first come here with Frank and Mary almost 2 years ago. It was the place her and Frank had sat on one of their early dates eating Mexican and drinking beer…and it was a stunning backdrop for the beach wedding she had always wanted.
"So the Public Access area has a large metered parking lot for you and your guests. Private condominium rentals and boutique hotels are nearby and can be a great option if you and your guests want to walk to your Wedding ceremony." The wedding planner, a small woman named Bobbi spoke "Or if you fancy there's also Pass-a-Grille or Upham..."
"No." Fliss shook her head and turned round, her eyes shining as she looked at Frank who was stood next to her. "I love this part of the beach and it’s special to us. It’s perfect. " Frank's hand tightened around hers and his mouth turned up into a smile. "I like it too." "Well that was easy!" Bobbi smiled "are you 100% sure you don't want to see the others?" "Yeah." Fliss smiled as Frank pressed a kiss to her temple. "Alright." Bobbie nodded. "So, you mentioned next September?" Frank nodded "We don't need a brunch or reception venue, we got that covered. Just the ceremony." Bobbi nodded and tapped at the tablet she was holding. "Well that makes it a lot easier. Any specific time of day?" "Afternoon." Fliss said. Bobbi hummed before she looked at them "You're in luck. There's a slot at 4pm on the 26th September. Does that work?" Frank looked at Fliss who nodded. He turned back to the woman and smiled "We'll take it." Bobbi nodded. "Alright. Do you wanna head back to the car and I can take the details, get the deposit paid?" "Lead the way." Frank smiled. She turned and walked back over the sand, the two of them following hand in hand. It took them about 15 minutes or so to get the formalities out of the way, but once that was done Bobbi emailed the confirmation over and it was done. They had officially set a date. After she told them a little more about what she would need from them legally over the next few weeks she shook both their hands and said she would be in touch. They both waved her off before Fliss turned to Frank, gave a little shriek of happiness before she flung herself onto his arms. He laughed, picking her up and twirling her round, giving her a soft kiss as he set her on her feet. "363 days to go." She smiled "364" he chuckled "It’s a leap year next year baby." "Details, details..." she waved a hand, her gaze flickering back over the ocean as she leaned into him. He wrapped his arms around her as the stood looking at the area where they would become man and wife in little under 12 months.
“What time are you meeting Bonnie?” Frank asked, breaking the silence as he checked his watch. She should have been out for lunch with her best friend last but Mary had been violently sick on the Saturday night and really clingy to her, so they had rearranged instead for the following Saturday evening which was now upon them almost.
“Erm, half 7. Why?” Fliss looked up at him, her shades covering her eyes.
“It’s 4 now. Fancy a walk?” he nodded towards the sea.
Fliss hesitated, truth be told she wanted to get back to Alex. This was the first time they’d left him with someone else, and whilst it was her parents and she knew she could trust them implicitly, she was still a little on edge about being apart from him.
“Just a quick 15 minutes.” Frank softly coaxed, knowing exactly what was on her mind “Then we can go and get the kids.”
Fliss nodded and the pair of them removed their shoes before they linked hands again, stepping onto the sand which was hot on their feet. The pair of them cursed and hopped from foot to foot, mumbling about how they really should know better now as they hurried to the cooler, wet sand, walking through the light waves as they lapped around their ankles.
“So where are you going tonight?” “Rio’s.” Fliss said, “Same as we planned last week. Apparently the new menu is amazing. Has a grill section, we should take Mary one night when Alex is a little older.”
“We could go now.” Frank said, looking at her “He’s plenty old enough. Feed him before we go, he can sleep whilst we eat.”
“Yeah, maybe.” She said.
“Why are you so against taking him out?” Frank asked softly.
“I’m not, I take him out during the day.”
“I mean to somewhere like that.” He stopped to look at her. “I’ve suggested it a few times that we take them both out for dinner, a treat for Mary maybe, and you’ve vetoed it.
“I know, and I feel guilty enough as it is, I don’t want Mary to miss out.” “She’s not missing out.” Frank shook his head, “She’s spoiled rotten. I just want to know what the problem is. Talk to me honey, please.” Fliss hesitated and took a deep breath “I honestly don’t know. I just, well if he starts crying or he gets unsettled…” “Then we take him outside until he settles and bring him back.” “And if he doesn’t settle?” “Then we get the food wrapped up and take it home.” He shrugged “Fliss, it’s not a big deal. You’re over thinking all of this. He’s a baby, he won’t know where he is, and if he did he wouldn’t give a shit.”
“Sorry.” She mumbled.
“Hey, there’s no need to apologise.” He took both of her hands “I just want us to enjoy our family time, you know. I couldn’t do any of this with Mary when she was a baby and I don’t want that for you.”
“I do enjoy family time.” She shrugged “I honestly don’t know what it is Frank. I just feel safer with him at home you know? There’s no one there to look at me when he starts crying and be sat there judging me about what he’s crying for…” “Babies cry.” Frank shook his head “It’s what they do. Fuck what anyone else thinks.” “I wish I could be as relaxed about it all as you.” Fliss shrugged.
“You keep saying this like I’m some kind of baby guru.” Frank arched an eyebrow over his shades “And I’m not. I had no fucking idea what I was doing with Mary. Still don’t. Look at the mess I made with the court case, sending her into Foster Care…”
“That was different.” “No, it wasn’t” Frank shook his head “I did what I thought was best at the time, yes, but I screwed up. And we’re gonna screw up with Alex along the way and most likely Mary again as she gets older, it’s just a fact of life. But as long as they’re happy, safe and loved…that’s what matters.” “I know, I know.” Fliss took a deep breath as they turned to walk again, “I just don’t want to let him down. I don’t want to let either of them down. And I know I’m being stupid, I mean take earlier for example. When we left him with Mum and Dad…I cried for like half an hour after.”
Frank chuckled softly “I know, I was there.”
“Everyone told me I’d be glad to get some time away, but I’m not. I miss him already and…it’s pathetic, I know.” She shrugged.
“No, you’re just a new mom.” He chuckled, squeezing his fingers around hers “It will get easier, I promise.”
“I thought about cancelling tonight.” She admitted “I was secretly glad last week was a no go, I mean I would have preferred it not to be because Mary was sick but…I wasn’t ready. And that’s not because I don’t trust you with him because I do, and I know I’ve left you with him before when I’ve nipped out but it’s just…”
“Lissy, stop.” He smiled, dropping a kiss to her temple “You don’t need to explain, I get it. Honestly I do, but you said you’re driving tonight so you can leave when you want to.” He said, looking at her “Don’t cancel, baby.”
“I’m not going to.” She shook her head “Bonnie would kill me. She’s really down at the moment.”
“Yeah?” Frank asked as the continued to splash in the shallow water.
Fliss nodded “She hasn’t told me what’s wrong. I’ll see if I can get it out of her tonight.” Frank pulled her closer, his hand leaving hers as he curled an arm round her shoulder and they continued to walk, talking as they did so. Eventually they reached the part of the beach which curved around the bay and headed over to the boardwalk so they could walk back to the car. As soon as she got back to her parents’, Fliss felt her earlier anxiety ebb away completely as Alex was fast asleep in the bassinet in the kitchen whilst Mary was playing in the pool with Bill and Steve. The entire family was over the moon when they announced they’d booked the date and Verity went off at 100 miles an hour talking about dresses and flowers until Bill gently reached over and squeezed her knee, reminding her it wasn’t her wedding. But neither Fliss nor Frank minded, it was nice to have their family so enthusiastic.
When Frank announced it was time to leave, Mary started protesting saying she wanted to stay the night. Frank refused, as she’d stayed the night before and he didn’t want Bill and Verity feeling obliged, but as usual Verity beamed and told her of course she could say. So they left her there and took Alex home. Once he had been fed, Fliss headed up for a shower and then contemplated what she was going to wear. Whilst she had lost the remainder of her baby bump so to speak, she was still bigger than she had been beforehand so her usual jeans didn’t quite fit yet. When she’d complained to Frank about it and said the last time she had been this size was after her accident, he had gotten a little frustrated at her, telling her that if she dared go on some stupid diet to lose it as fast as she had back then he would be seriously pissed at her. She’d bitten back, snapping at him that she knew it was out of the question. She didn’t want to for starters, as she had been so miserable when she’d been emotionally manipulated into doing so by John, and this time there was Alex to think about. If she was feeding and nursing him she didn’t want to be on some stupid crash diet. Besides which, she wasn’t eating that differently to how she had been before she was pregnant. It was the lack of exercise, as it had been back then. Frank had apologised for snapping, and she’d done the same assuring him that she would be sensible. She knew that she would lose most of it once she could go back to work and start riding again and if she didn’t, well, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Frank was constantly telling her she was beautiful and besides, what’s a few extra kilos when you have a gorgeous baby boy to show for it?
In the end she opted for a strapless, floaty lemon dress which she had worn in her early pregnancy days that flared out under her breast line and stopped just above her knees. She paired it with a pair of tan, leather gladiator sandals and left her hair down in the soft waves it dried in post her shower. She applied a little make up, smiling to herself at the fact this was probably the first time she had worn it since she had given birth. All in all, she couldn’t deny it was nice to actually feel like Fliss and not just momma bear even though the two went hand in hand now.
Grabbing her purse and dropping her lip gloss and phone inside she headed out of the bedroom and down the stairs. Frank was sat on the sofa, Alex napping in the little basket which lay on the coffee table. He looked up, blinking at her appearance and smiled softly.
“You look fantastic.” He said, honestly.
“Thank you.” She smiled, heading over to give him a quick peck.
“You sure you don’t want me to drive you?” he offered again, nodding to Alex “He’ll sleep on the way.”
“No, honestly I’m not drinking. Well, maybe just one.” She shrugged.
“Back to grape juice instead of apple, huh?” he quipped and she smiled, running her finger over Alex’s rosy cheeks.
“Something like that.” She said, absentmindedly looking at her baby.
“Liss…” Frank said, watching her and she turned to him “Go, we’ll be fine.” “I know, I know…” she nodded, taking a deep breath. “I’m going, I promise…” He chuckled and she gave him another kiss before she headed towards the door, she took a final look back at her baby and fiancée, the latter making a shooing gesture with his hands and she laughed, before she turned and walked out of the room. He heard the front door close behind her a let out a sigh of relief. He’d half been expecting her to back out but she hadn’t, she’d gone. Thankfully. He was desperate for her to go out and enjoy herself, she needed to see other people outside of their little family unit, it wasn’t healthy for her to be as isolated as she seemed to have made herself. He’d actually gotten a little worried to the point that he’d even asked his own Mother for advice and she had assured him that Fliss would settle, pointing out that it was nerve wracking being a new mum. He’d been surprised to learn that Evelyn hadn’t left him with anyone until he was almost 4 months old for fear something would go wrong, and that had comforted him a little to understand that this wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. It had been slightly different with Diane as she’d leaned on him to help her a lot, but then again most things with Diane had been different.
He leaned back on the sofa, picking up the remote, his eyes falling once more to the basket.
“Just you and me tonight son…” he muttered, flicking to the TV finding the sports channel, selecting a re-run of a Red Sox game. “Time to start your education…” *****
“Oooh, how exciting!” Bonnie exclaimed as Fliss smiled, having just told her about them booking their wedding “It sounds amazing, that’s a gorgeous stretch of beach.”
“Yeah, it’s special to us so…” she smiled, and looked up as the waiter came to take their drinks order.
“Erm, do you want wine?” Bonnie asked.
Fliss hesitated for a second, before she shrugged “Just the one.”
Bonnie smiled and ordered them a bottle of Chardonnay and a large bottle of water. Once the Waiter was out of ear shot Fliss leaned forward “This way I don't need to pump and dump...”
Bonnie laughed “I always find that odd. I mean pumping and dumping doesn't get alcohol out of your system does it?” “No, but if I wanted to go out and get drunk I’d have to wait until I was sure all the alcohol had left my system before I fed him again.” Fliss shrugged “He’s already bottle fed at night so Frank can help and I wake up and my boobs are like fucking water melons so you can you imagine what they would be like after like 12 hours or whatever if I didn’t.” she shook her head. “But one glass, well my mum, midwife and Doctor Google say if I'm not feeding in the next 2 or 3 hours I should be ok.”
Their chat turned to Mary’s adoption, Fliss filling Bonnie in on how they’d begun the process legally now, Greg sorting and filing the paperwork and contacting her biological father earlier that week. So far they had heard nothing but they should start to see things progress fairly quickly once he had given his consent.
“And even if he doesn’t, Greg seems confident the court would find in our favour, Mary having been in Frank’s care since she was 6 months old.” Fliss shrugged, thanking the waiter as he placed the two bottles on the table. “So we’re not concerned, it would just be a lot easier and smoother if he does the right thing, you know?” The waiter finished filling both their glasses then placed the wine in the ice bucket before he then poured them each a water and asked them for their food orders. They placed them, Bonnie opting for scallops and the ribs, Fliss deciding on calamari and the steak. Once he was gone Bonnie looked at Fliss, picking up her glass.
“Do you think he will? Object, I mean.” Fliss paused, pondering for a moment “I don’t think so, I mean why would he? He made no effort to find Mary before the court case and now, even though he knows where she is, he still hasn’t so…” she shrugged, picking up her drink.
“Well…” Bonnie leaned over, holding her wine glass up “Here’s to it going smoothly and your first girl’s night out since becoming a momma.”
Fliss smiled and clinked her glass against Bonnie’s, before she took a sip and let out a soft moan “God that tastes sooo good.” “Well you could always dump the car as well as the milk.” Bonnie gestured to the bottle that lay in the ice bucket and Fliss laughed, shaking her head.
“Maybe next time.” She pulled out her phone and took a snap of her glass, sending it to Frank with the caption “Ok, so it tastes as good as I remember…” before she dropped her phone on the table.
They chatted a little more about general things, what Fliss had in mind for the wedding, the type of dress she thought she wanted, colour for bridesmaids, most of which she couldn’t answer as she had no idea really. It was odd that it was going to be her choice, but exciting none-the-less. At one point, her phone buzzed and she picked it up, letting out a chuckle at Frank’s reply to her earlier message. It was a photo of a beer bottle and a baby bottle side by side on the kitchen counter along with the words “Boy’s night in.” She showed it to Bonnie who gave a snort and Fliss placed the phone down and looked at her.
“So, what’s going on with you? I can tell you’re down.”
Bonnie fiddled slightly with her cutlery, before she shrugged “Simon’s being odd. I mean odder than normal before you say it.”
Fliss smiled and waited for her to continue.
“The last week or so, it’s like his mind is elsewhere. I’m beginning to wonder where it is, or more to the point who it’s with.”
Fliss frowned, her wine glass paused slightly in front of her mouth “You think he’s cheating?”
Bonnie shrugged “Honestly, I don’t know. Something’s going on.”
“I don’t think he would.” Fliss shook her head. “Is he not just stressed with work? Frank can get a little sullen if he’s got a lot on.” “Maybe.” Bonnie mused “He’s just normally so attentive and fun…I’m likely thinking too much into it, it’s probably nothing.”
“You should ask him straight.” Fliss said, looking at her “Tell him how you feel, give him a chance to explain. If there’s one thing the whole Vegas incident with Frank taught me is that things ain’t always what they seem Bon. It’s bound to be something really simple that’s just playing on his mind.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” Bonnie nodded “I’ll ask him.”
At that point their starters arrived and they both started to eat, and Bonnie grinned. “So, anyway, back to your dress…you’d look fantastic in a straight, little lace number…” By the time they had finished eating and chatting, Fliss was wearing a bright, bubble-gum pink meringue complete with crystals and a sweetheart neckline to get married in-“because, you know- watermelons…” and the bridesmaids were all going to be in lime green. Fliss had told Bonnie to be careful what she was suggesting, as she didn’t think the woman’s skin tone would take kindly to be dressed in such a colour, at which point Bonnie had nearly choked and her eyes had filled as Fliss smiled and nodded, confirming that she’d just asked Bonnie to take the job. After a loud acceptance, Bonnie had jumped up and hugged Fliss, drawing curious glances from the tables around them.
Fliss dropped Bonnie at the condo she shared with Simon, along with an instruction to call her if she needed to chat again, and then she headed back home arriving just after 11pm. Letting herself in quietly, she made her way into the family room and paused in the doorway, smiling at the sight in front of her. Frank was led on the sofa, Alex clutched to his chest with two strong hands, the baby boy fast asleep.
“Before you panic…” Frank spoke, making her jump a little “I’m not asleep. Just resting my eyes.”
“I wasn’t panicking.” Fliss said, honestly “I know you’d never let him fall.”
Frank cracked open his eyes and smiled “You have a nice time?” he asked as she walked towards him. He gently shifted so he was sat up, Alex still held to his chest securely as Fliss sat next to him, peeking at the sleeping baby.
“Yeah, I did.” She nodded “The food was good. We definitely need to go.”
“Did you find out what was bothering Bonnie?”
“Yeah, she said Simon’s being odd with her.”
“Odder than normal?”
Fliss snorted, “That’s exactly what she said.” And she took a deep breath “She thinks he’s playing away.”
“Si?” Frank looked at her, “No, absolutely not. In fact, she couldn’t be further from the truth if she tried.”
“What do you mean?” Fliss frowned and Frank hesitated.
“He told me last week, and this cannot go any further as he will kill me, but he’s gonna propose.”
Fliss’ mouth dropped open before her face split into a grin “No shit?”
“Yes shit.” Frank nodded, smiling “Told me when he was drunk in Fergs.” Fliss leaned back against the cushions on the sofa, and her smile slipped a little “Oh shit.”
“What?” “I told her to talk to him, ask him what the problem was.” “Sensible advice in normal circumstances.” Frank shrugged “Don’t sweat it, it’ll be fine.”
“So when’s he gonna ask her?”
“No idea.” Frank shrugged “He didn’t say.”
“Did he not ask for ideas?”
Frank snorted “I’m the last person he should be asking. I was carrying your damned ring around for weeks trying to find the right moment. I almost did it by the tree at the Rockefeller centre, and then that ass hole beat me to it.”
Fliss gave a soft laugh as she shook her head “The way you did it was perfect.” “Yeah, I got there in the end.” He grinned.
At that point Alex stirred a little, making a few gripey noises before he began to get more restless, rooting against Frank’s T-shirt. “Think he might be hungry.” Frank smiled “Good timing Momma.”
Fliss chuckled and took Alex in her arms, adjusting her top as Frank stood up, heading to the kitchen “You want a drink?” he tossed over his shoulder.
“Yeah, camomile tea if there’s any going?”
Frank flipped on the kettle and watched from the counter as his girl nursed their baby, a deep sense of contentment brewing in his stomach, along with the usual low-key arousal he felt whenever she was doing anything with their son. Seeing her interact with his baby, the baby she’d carried and given birth to was purely amazing and he loved watching it. He made her a tea, grabbed himself another beer and then sat down next to her as she finished up feeding and he offered to take Alex to wind him as she sorted herself out and had her drink. Eventually he settled again and went back down, leaving the two of them to snuggle up on the couch. They stayed together for half an hour or so before Fliss yawned and said she needed to sleep.
“I’ll take him up. You coming?” she asked.
“I’ll be up shortly” he promised as she sat up, cracking her neck.
“Oh, gonna watch porn and jerk off?” she teased and he sighed, shooting her a look.
“You’re not funny.”
“Not trying to be.” She shrugged, leaning over to kiss him softly.
“What would you do if I was?” he mumbled against her lips and she paused, pulling back slightly, arching her eyebrows.
“Well, I’d probably have to remind you that the real thing is much better.” She said, her hand gently cupping at his crotch.
“Ok, you need to stop.” He said, his voice a whisper before he let out a groan as she ignored him completely, her grip growing harder and his hand wrapped gently around her wrist. “Lissy, seriously…” “Oh shut up” she mumbled, before she shook off his grip and snaked her hand into the waistband of his shorts, taking his hardening member in her hand. She gave it a light pump or two before she pulled at his shorts, and he lifted his hips slightly to allow her to pull them down.
“Baby…” he said softly, but his protests died in his throat as she bent down and took him to the back of hers.
*****
“Well, I’m happy that everything seems ok and back to normal.” The Ob Gyn smiled at Fliss as she moved away from where she had been examining her “So if you feel ok in yourself, no physical pain, nothing…” “Nope, nothing at all.” Fliss shook her head
“Well then Miss Gallagher your life can go back to normal” she smiled, “Well, as normal as it is 6 weeks post giving birth.”
Fliss smiled “So I can start riding again?”
“Yup, as long as you make sure you take it easy. As with anything, you won’t have used certain muscles in a while so be careful.”
“Ok.” Fliss nodded.
“Are you going to continue breast feeding?” the woman asked and Fliss nodded.
“Yeah, which is something I wanted to talk to you about. What contraception can I use?”
“There’s condoms obviously, I can prescribe the mini pill or there’s the IUD.”
“Is an IUD safe?” Fliss asked, “I don’t want to use condoms and to be honest, with my baby brain I’ll probably end up forgetting my pill. That’s what led us here in the first place and that was before I’d had a baby.”
The Doctor chuckled. “To be honest, the most effective contraceptives are intrauterine devices and they’re perfectly safe despite what you might read on the internet. The Mirena IUD releases a very small amount of hormone into the uterus, where it works locally and it won’t affect the quality and quantity of breast milk, and it’s also safe and effective for five years. It’s a good choice, one I prefer to recommend when I can.”
Fliss nodded “Ok, that seems like a good choice. How do I get one fit?”
“I can do it now if you want.” The woman smiled “And the best bit is it works immediately.” “Straight away?” Fliss looked at her “So…” “Yep.” The Ob Gyn smiled “You can go straight home and jump his bones if you so wish.”
Fliss laughed, and contemplated the woman’s words for a second. She did want. Truth be told she’d been low key horny since she’d blown Frank off on the couch a fortnight or so ago, but hadn’t wanted to rush anything, choosing to wait instead for the all clear at her 6 week check-up. Now, well, there was nothing stopping them getting physically close again and the thought drew a smile to her face. She couldn’t wait to have her Sailor holding her again.
“Ok, yeah” she nodded to the woman who smiled.
“I’ll sort the paper work, grab my kit and be right back.” The doctor smiled.
Driving home Fliss had all sorts of thoughts about how to make their night special. Romantic candles perhaps, maybe a little nice underwear…that is if she could find any that fit her still.
But of course, best laid plans and all that. In reality, the evening unfolded like any other, with shitty diapers, breast pumping, and a dinner eaten while taking turns bouncing a 6 week old baby in their laps as he had chosen that particular night to be awkward about settling after his feed, it was almost as if he could sense what Fliss had in mind and was doing his best to veto her plans.
Around 9 pm once Mary was in bed and Alex had been bathed, changed and fed, Fliss slipped away to prepare her body for its first round of postnatal coitus. She took a bath to unwind and shaved her armpits and legs. She also considered tackling her lady bush, but realized that her razor wasn’t sharp enough for that jungle right now so Frank was just going to have to deal with the crotch afro if he wanted a bit.
She climbed out of the bath and wrapped herself in her robe, heading into the bedroom where she dried off and set about her skin care routine before she decided to go the whole hog and paint her toenails a deep crimson colour, replacing the shimmery baby pink that she had done a few weeks ago as celebration she could finally see her damned feet again. Then she shed her robe and stole a quick look in the mirror. All things considered she conceded she didn’t look too bad. She wasn’t so much bothered by the extra pounds but more so slightly disturbed by the way they seemed to have positioned themselves on her body. It was almost like small, flesh-coloured bread loaves stapled to her belly. But, like she knew she could sort most of that out with riding and getting more active again, what she wasn’t sure exercise would do anything for was her breasts. They were large, which in itself wasn’t a problem, on the contrary in fact, as Frank was a self-proclaimed boob man, but her nipples had starburst over her breasts without any clearly definitive ending points. She was debating whether or not to try and put a little foundation on them, to tone down the nipple extravaganza but stopped herself, realising she was being utterly fucking ridiculous.
This was Frank she was preparing for. The man she’d been with for years, her fiancée whose baby she had carried and given birth to. And she knew he loved her, starfish nips or not.
She set about finding some suitable underwear. She had a few nice sets, some she had bought for herself, some Frank had purchased for her but as she laid them out on the bed she knew she wouldn’t feel comfortable in any of them. Continuing her search she finally found a pair of black lace briefs that skated along her ass cheeks and a black sheer negligee that she had worn a few times pre- pregnancy, in particular one very raunchy night where she’d surprised Frank by wearing it in the kitchen one evening when Mary had been at Roberta’s, cooking their dinner as if it was perfectly normal to be dressed that way. Dinner had ended up burnt, the smoke detectors going off, and they’d sat curled up with a Thai take out and all the windows open in an attempt to rid the place of the smell of cremated lamb chops and potatoes.
She shimmied into it, and to her delight it fit, even if her breasts were a little larger. They spilled over the top but her cleavage looked Elizabethan in a sexy way, and she grinned as she knew exactly what Frank was going to say about that. Finally, she removed her hair form its high bun, which had served nicely to give it some volume and fluffed it up and decided that the overall effect was actually pretty good.
She lay back on the bed, grabbed her phone and turned it into selfie mode, angling it just right so that she could get the full effect before she checked it, and fired it to Frank with a downright filthy message accompanying it and lay back to wait.
***** Frank had nodded when Fliss had said she was tired and needed to go to bed, and promised he’d be up in an hour or so, wanting to give her the time to just unwind. She’d been for her 6 week check-up and had assured him that everything was fine, but her general demeanour told him she was keeping something from him.
Trying not to think about it too much, he settled Alex down and flicked over to catch a re-run of Game of Thrones. It was the Battle Of The Bastards, his favourite episode of the entire series, and he was just mumbling to himself, calling Rickon Stark a ‘dumb ass mother fucker’ for not zig-zagging when his phone went. He absentmindedly reached for it, wondering if it was Simon telling him he’d finally grown a pair of balls and proposed, but it wasn’t, it was Fliss.
He opened the message and as soon as he saw the image he spluttered and the soda he had just taken a drink of dribbled straight down his shirt.
“Jesus fucking Christ…” he mumbled, wiping at the spilled Fanta, as he stared at the photo. His girl was led on the bed, in a sheer negligee, her hair fanning over the pillow, eyes bright and mischievous and the shot was angled to give a perfect shot of the top of her cleavage. It was accompanied with the words. “Oh I forgot to tell you, your favourite legs are back open for business…”
“You devious little minx…” he mumbled, suddenly understanding exactly what it was she’d been hiding from him, and his cock stirred in his pants. In a flash her was up off the sofa, shoving Thor out of the door so he could pee before he locked up, gathered Alex in his arms and made his way up the stairs as fast as he could, letting the dog into Mary’s room as he was scrambling at the door to get in.
“What kept you?” Fliss asked as he walked into the room, gently placing Alex in the bedside crib, making sure the blankets were arranged carefully.
“Well you kinda caught me off guard…” he said, lifting an eyebrow as he gently lowered himself over her on the bed, gently tugging her hips and pulling her down slightly before he propped himself up on his elbows, caging her between his arms and legs. “You look sexy as fuck baby girl!” Fliss let out a grin as his lips met hers, and his eyes lowered to her cleavage and he gave a groan. “And I’m not supposed to touch these?”
“No.”
“At all?”
“Not unless you want a face full of milk.” She looked at him.
“Is it strange I find that a little kinky?” he grinned and she blinked, shaking her head with a snort.
“You have issues.”
“Yeah and right now they’re in the trouser department.” He mumbled, dropping his lips to hers “I nearly choked when you sent me that message.”
“You like?” she purred gently and he let out another groan and nodded.
“I did, I do. A lot.” He smirked, his lips pressing to hers again. The kiss quickly became heated, his hands tangling in her hair has he held her head still, and then he felt her pull away a little, and he frowned as she looked at him, biting her lip.
“What’s wrong?”
"Is it weird that we’re like gonna have sex with our baby in the same room? Can he see us?” she asked, her head rolling to look at Alex. "No, he can't even focus yet, and it’s not weird. I’m a modern man.” He said, his hand cupping her cheek and turning his face back to his. “This is how it’s done. It’s probably very European of us actually." "Frank I'm from England..." she rolled her eyes. "Lissy..." he sighed softly, “Look, if you don't wanna..."
“No I do, I really do…” she took a deep breath “Sorry, I just…” “It’s ok…” he gave her a soft smile, before his lips found hers again. In between the dizzying kisses Frank moved his right hand, his fingers gently tracing up the outside of her thigh and under the hem of the sheer lace slip she was wearing, and his mouth moved to lightly trail kisses across her bare collar bone. With a soft sigh she nodded, acknowledging his unasked question and his lips moved downwards peppering warm, open mouthed peck across the swell of her cleavage, careful to take his time and stay gentle. Fliss let out a shaky whisper of his name, her hands tangling into his hair as he moved his affections upwards slightly, skimming his nose up her sternum, nudging her chin back so he could turn his affections back to her neck. This time her gentle whisper became a loud groan which she stifled with her hand as he nipped at her neck and he felt her shiver underneath him.
“You ok?” he asked quietly, looking down at her. She nodded and with a wicked quirk of his eyebrow he stood up, scrambling out of his clothes as fast as he could before he fell forwards again, his hands pulling down her underwear, lips kissing at the spot just below her ear.
Fliss was utterly gone now, consumed by the sensations she hadn’t felt in so long and she tilted her head back, sighing softly as he continued to nibble at her neck, settling himself above her. His fingers gently dropped between her legs and he felt her slick against the tips as he gently coaxed at her clit, continuing until she was nothing short of a writhing mess clawing at his back, aching for him. They locked eyes as he took her left hand in his, and slowly worked into her, both moaning simultaneously at the sensation, Fliss’ eyelids fluttering shut as she felt him fill her.
“Go steady.” she whispered and with a gently nod Frank began to move his hips slowly, displaying nothing but absolute tenderness in his thrusts which weren’t measured in the slightest. His free hand kept hold of her hip, keeping her as close as she could possibly be, enjoying the sensation of once more being inside her, in top of her, surrounded by her.
Meanwhile, Fliss was just as lost, but in her own thoughts. For some reason as good as she had felt before, now she was starting to panic a little, that stupid voice in her head mumbling all sorts of dumbass thoughts.
Okay, this feels familiar. Sex feels the same. Does it feel the same for him? Is he taking longer than normal? Oh shit, maybe I’m super stretched out and it’s terrible. Maybe I’m different now, and I’ll never be as good. Maybe I was never THAT good to start with though? I’ll ask… “Is it good? Is it the same as it was?” she gasped out and Frank stilled, looking down at her.
“What?” he panted slightly. "I asked does it feel the same? I mean..." He leaned down, gently rubbing his nose against hers. “It’s great … it feels really good.” He reassured her and she nodded.
“Ok, you can go a bit faster…”
“I don’t want to.” He mumbled, giving her a deep kiss. And he didn’t. He was enjoying the slowness of it all, and he kept his lazy thrusts aimed perfectly on her spot, drawing those delectable sounds from her throat. Fliss’ senses were on fire, and she broke the long, lazy kiss that they were sharing to stifle a moan against his shoulder when she felt herself starting to unravel.
And then…
A loud cry came from the basinet. They both stilled, looked at one another, and glanced over to the side of the bed. Silence, no movement bar the waving of a little arm.
"He's going to cry.” Fliss said between her deep breathing “If he cries, do we stop? Is it child abuse if we keep going until we finish?" "He's stopped." Frank said, turning his head back to her. “What if there's something wrong and we’re here just boning."
Frank shut her up with a languid roll of his hips and she gave a soft gasp, her hands grasping at his biceps.
“Liss, he’s fine.”
“'We’re the kind of negligent parents…oh fuck….” She groaned as he tilted his hips again… “The one’s you’d see in a movie like Trainspotting."
He shook his head, pulling out a little before he sank back into her, her body moving with his slightly and she looked up at him.
“When the police ask what happened, do we lie? Or do we say we were having sex while our baby quietly suffocated a few feet away?”
“For fucks sake Lissy…” he spluttered in frustration “You gave me a blow job the other week on the sofa and he was asleep in the basket on the coffee table.”
“That was different” “How?”
“We were on the couch and I wasn't naked.” “You’re not naked now.” He shook his head “Will you shut up and let me make you feel good?” Her random, stupid worries stopped and she closed her eyes, nodding, and he started his movements again. It didn’t take him long to get them back to where they were, his thrusts deep and he picked up his pace ever so slightly, her hands flying to his bare back as she gripped him tighter, wanting to feel all of him, as close as she possibly could. His lips found hers and she took the kiss, it leaving her breathless as the heat began to rise in her belly and she let out a soft moan, which he swallowed with his mouth where it morphed into his own low, mumble of her name as he felt her clench around him. The sheets rustled underneath them both as their pace continued slow and languid until the very end when Fliss’ let her head tip back, her throat bared to Frank in utter bliss as she came hard, the world spinning around her, her moans soft and breathy as her legs trembled, sheer pleasure spearing through her entire body.
Frank gave a low grunt which tuned into a gasp as he clung to his girl, spilling himself into her, his hips slowing to a stop as he collapsed forward.
“That was fucking great.” he said, voice muffled as his face pressed into her neck, and she felt herself flush. She let out a chuckle as her hands gently slid up his back and into his hair.
“Yeah, we still got it Sailor.” She said and it was his turn to chuckle as he moved and pressed a soft kiss to her lips.
And then Alex did erupt into a full on screaming fit. Frank found himself thanking his son that he’d at least had the good grace to wait until he’d finished. He rolled off Fliss, landing on his back, hand running through his hair as she sat up and scooped Alex into her arms, sitting up against the headboard with him held to her, in the bed where his parents’ sinful deeds were likely still detectable. Frank looked at her, then to Alex whose tiny face was creased up in a loud wail as Fliss held him to her chest, trying to soothe him and he arched an eyebrow. "I take it the post sex snuggling is out?"
our union is a secret i’m hoping, dreaming, lying to keep - chapter five
you’ve all heard of ‘pretending to be married when you’re not’, now get ready for ‘actually married but pretending you’re not’
When Tohru and Kyo accidentally find themselves married, they must keep their new union a secret from their friends and family. That’s easier said than done when you’re both newlywed dorks who just want to spend some quality time with one another whilst said friends and family are always one step away from discovering the truth.
Start from the beginning | Previous chapter | Next chapter
[fair warning, if you haven't already finished the series there are major spoilers from this point onwards so please tread carefully <3]
The heat bore down in simmering waves as Tohru and Kyo made their way down the boardwalk hand in hand, Tohru's sandals clacking against the wood with every dainty step as she worked on finishing her ice cream.
Kyo had ordered her multiple scoops after she'd been unable to choose between flavours. He himself had gotten a simple vanilla for himself, but unlike Tohru he had finished his within minutes.
The pair were quiet as they passed between the beach and cliffs, taking in the beautiful scenery around them - although Kyo was a little more distracted with his own thoughts to appreciate them to their full extent.
The last time he'd tried to voice the thoughts circling in his mind to Tohru, he'd clamped up and lost his nerve. But as his gaze shifted to the roiling waves in the sea beyond, the same thoughts pushed against the fringes of his mind, searching for a way out towards freedom.
He glanced towards Tohru as if she could hear the words in his mind, but she was too engrossed in her ice cream to notice his turmoil.
At least for now.
The girl had an uncanny ability to know when something was up with him, and if he didn't work up the courage to speak soon, she'd notice something was wrong. So with an inconspicuous inhale, he squeezed his girl's fingers and she turned to him with wide eyes that almost held an ethereal glow in the daylight sun.
"The last time we were here," he started slowly, trying to feel out the words before they left his mouth. "It was when I first realised how I felt about you, the first time I let myself even think about you as anything other than just you."
His gaze shifted back to the sea, the rise and fall of the water settling his spiking nerves. He could feel Tohru's eyes on him, but if he wanted to get his words out he couldn't be looking at her.
"At the time, I never thought …" He swallowed the uncomfortable lump in his throat. "I never thought I'd ever be back here again, but I was happy. I was happy that my first and last time would get to be with you because I finally knew that-"
He stopped as he heard a sniffle from beside him, turning to see Tohru with melted ice cream dripping down her fingers and tears streaming down her cheeks. He let out a strangled sound of surprise before rushing to wipe at her tears and stare helplessly at her sticky fingers.
"Uh, I'm sorry Tohru. I shouldn't have said any of that. You're supposed to be having a good time on your honeymoon and I'm just upsetting you instead."
"No," she said with a shake of her head, her voice light and watery. "I'm not sad at all. I'm so happy right now. I'm so happy that you're sharing all of this with me."
"You are?" he said, surprised by her response. "Hey, you're gonna … the ice cream …" he started, sighing in defeat as she wrapped her arms around him. "Oh what does it matter," he finished, giving in and squishing her back.
"I'm so happy, but you didn't finish what you were saying."
"I didn't? I … forgot what I was saying," he said with a frown, unable to recall anything beside Tohru's tear stained face.
"You said you finally knew. What did you know?"
"Oh, that." Tohru pulled away and looked up at him expectantly. "It was nothing," he said instinctively, even though he did want to tell her the truth.
"It wasn't nothing Kyo," she pushed gently, staring up at him with red rimmed eyes.
"Yeah … you're right. It took some thinking, and a fight with Akito, for me to realise that I loved you. I loved you so much that I couldn't hold onto you if I wanted you to be happy."
She was silent a moment. "So … you were going to let me go."
"Yeah, I was. I guess coming back here the way we have it's made me a little nostalgic or whatever. It might be a little ironic and even selfish, but I'm so glad you never gave up on me the way I was prepared to give up on you."
She placed her head gently against his chest, a little hiccup sob escaping her as she did so. "Tohru …" he comforted gently as he moved a hand from the small of her back to rest on her head. "I forget you're such a cry baby sometimes."
When Tohru finally let him go, he felt a lot lighter and free – as if the words he'd confessed to her had held a real weight in his soul. They weren't gone completely, he could still feel some sort of pull deep inside him, but he definitely wasn't carrying the burden alone anymore.
It only took a moment for his wife to notice the streaks of coloured ice cream on his shirt, and she tittered incoherent words Kyo could only assume were apologies as she threw the remainder of her sweet treat in the nearest bin.
"It's alright Tohru," he said, trying to dodge her as she returned and attempted to swat as his shirt. "It's not like it won't wash out or anything."
She huffed as she caught nothing but empty air, and Kyo took the small respite in her attacks to sweep in and capture her hands. "Home?" he suggested, leaning in to nudge her cheek with his nose.
"Sure, let's go," she sighed, her voice soft and breezy as she began to tug him along.
By the time they reached the beach house, the dusky evening light was the only thing illuminating them in the courtyard. Tohru was still holding on to his hand, but it didn't take much to slip out of her grip.
She looked alarmed for a second before his hands slipped around her waist and he spun her around with childish glee. Her laughter echoed warmly within in him, and before he knew what he was doing Kyo was smiling against Tohru's lips as she sighed into his kiss.
"Well, would you just look at the two of you clinging to each other like newlyweds. Isn't that just adorable?"
The two of them jumped apart guiltily as the familiar voice broke through their haze of serenity. Kyo was still holding Tohru by the waist. He pulled her closer without thinking as his gaze shifted to the front of the house.
The door stood open and standing there backlit in a halo of golden light stood probably the last person Kyo would want to bump into out here.
"Shigure," he grumbled, unable to hide his annoyance at seeing the man. "What are you doing here?"
"I was actually talking to Tori this morning - although he may describe it more as bothering - and he might have mentioned you and Tohru were here on an impromptu visit. Anyway, long story short, I was inspired and decided I too really miss the beach and so here I am."
"So you just showed up to be an annoyance," Kyo bristled, tamping down his anger the moment he felt Tohru's light touch against his sleeve.
"It's such a wonderful surprise to see you Shigure-san," she smiled.
"Thank you Tohru. It's nice to see that at least one person appreciates my presence," Shigure said, flashing a pointed look at Kyo who only growled in response. "Well, better hurry it up. Akito's inside getting the table ready for dinner. We've been waiting on the two of you to return for quite some time," he said, waving them towards the door before heading back inside alone.
Kyo and Tohru lingered in the courtyard, watching each other in quiet contemplation as they heard Shigure's footsteps fade away. "Man, I hate that guy," the former grumbled the moment he was sure the older man was out of ear shot. "Why does he have to show up and ruin everything?"
"What a strange coincidence that we're here at the same time again though," Tohru commented thoughtfully. "And with Akito too."
"It's not a coincidence, it's deliberate – Shigure basically outright admitted it. That guy just loves to get on my nerves!"
Tohru placed her hands on Kyo's cheeks, pinching them gently. "You're so cute when you're mad," she said with a giggle.
Kyo flushed instantly, his face heating up so quickly he was sure that Tohru would be able to feel the change. He was about to pull away when her face dropped and a fearful "Oh!" fell from her lips.
His embarrassment vanished instantly at her small sound of alarm and he found his own hands clasping her shoulders in an effort to remind her that he was there, he was hers.
"What is it? What's wrong?"
"Akito and Shigure, they'll see my ring!"
Kyo relaxed a little. "Is that all?"
"I have to take it off, but my dress … it doesn't have pockets."
"I could always keep a hold of it?" he offered. "I've got plenty of pockets."
Tohru smiled kindly but shook her head, letting her fingers drop to his shoulders and rest flat against his chest. "Thank you, but that feels too much like returning it to you," she explained.
"Okay, we'll just figure something else out," Kyo said as he leaned down and pressed his forehead with hers. "You just want it near enough to know it's there, right?"
"Yes," she replied slowly, attempting to nod but settling for a nondescript movement of her head instead.
"I think I have an idea that might work. Hold still, okay."
With that, Kyo stood up straight. Before Tohru knew what was happening, or could even object, Kyo had tugged at one her hair ribbons hard enough to untie it. One half of her hair fell past her shoulders like a waterfall of silk and Kyo ran his fingers through it before doing the same to the other side.
Her two ribbons trailed along his fingers and he deftly slipped one into his pocket. "I'm gonna need you to turn around," he said, giving Tohru a gentle shove to encourage her to spin.
With the ribbon still in his hand, he lightly pulled the top section of her hair back into a half-up do and tied the ribbon securely. It wasn't as pretty as she'd tied it before, but it was vaguely bow shaped, so he deemed it passable.
"Hey, can you pass your ring to me?" he asked, pulling the second ribbon back out. He slid the gold band along the soft material before draping it across her neck and tying it off at the back.
She lifted a slender hand to touch the ring that hung at her neck and smiled widely as she glanced backwards over her shoulder at Kyo. "Kyo-kun, this is wonderful. I love it," she said, her eyes glittering with what he suspected were unshed tears.
"You're welcome." He dropped his head and pressed a quick kiss against the tender skin at the back of her neck, relishing in the small squeak she let out before spinning to face him. "It looks great, but it's all pointless if you don't tuck it into your dress."
"Oh," Tohru said softly, as if only just realising the fact, and he found himself sighing at how easy it was to distract her. It was endearing, but he also couldn't help but worry over her.
"How's that?" she asked as she tucked it in.
Her dress hid her ring fairly well. Kyo could just about make out the outline of it against the top of her chest, and it wasn't noticeable unless he really knew to look for it. It would work fine at keeping Shigure and Akito from figuring things out too quickly.
And if Shigure did somehow notice it, well then he'd have to answer to Kyo's fists since he would have to have been staring intently at Tohru to do so. It would be even more deserved since he'd have been shamelessly looking at his girl when his own was right there.
"Kyo," Tohru said, bringing his attention back to her. "How does it look?" she asked again, but Kyo wasn't talking about the ring when he spoke next.
"Perfect."
Her honeyed gaze locked onto his and he couldn't bring himself to look away, wondering if it was possible to see someone's feelings as clearly as he felt his were showing right then. He leaned in towards her, but the creak of the door had him straightening up stiffly instead.
He turned towards it, ready to yell at Shigure to wait a little longer, but the words died in his throat as he took in the smaller figure in the doorway. Akito, her dark hair sleek and straight as it brushed against the tips of her shoulders stood leaning against the door.
Her face was blank as she scrutinised him, but he didn't miss the small quirk of her lip as she spotted Tohru in his arms and that alone was enough for him to be okay with her presence.
"If you two are done canoodling out here, dinner's ready. There's …" she paused thoughtfully, "some things I'd like to talk to you about." This last part was clearly addressed at Tohru, and she smiled widely as she slipped out of Kyo's embrace and rushed towards the door.
"Akito!" she squeaked excitedly as she pulled her in for a hug. The other girl stood there reluctantly at first before slowly but surely returning the gesture.
"We're sorry for taking so long. Let's go inside," Tohru said, grabbing Akito's hand as she led her inside. Kyo followed behind the two of them, pausing to hover in the doorway a moment.
The cool night air brushed against his warm skin as he let out a wistful sigh. This was going to be an unexpectedly interesting evening.
Day five of the Spring Fest is Fresh, and I decided to use it in the context of Jiang Cheng being grouchy, because I’m always trying to be too clever.
1323 words, Jiang Cheng. Post-CQL. Wei Wuxian and Nie Huaisang aren’t literally in the scene but they’re effectively present by way of their antics. Aroace!Jiang Cheng vs ‘The Bachelor’ (figuratively)
It was a beautiful evening at Lotus Pier. The sun was setting at the water’s edge, casting the low-sprawling clouds dusty with pale orange and periwinkle glowing in the spaces between them. The air was cool and pleasing on Jiang Cheng’s face. His head of household and principal advisor was walking toward him along the boardwalk bearing a letter sealed with Nie Huaisang’s personal emblem. Jiang Cheng scowled and said, “What fresh hell is this?”
“A message has arrived from Sect Leader Nie,” she said placidly, as if Jiang Cheng had asked his question in the same fashion. “It was delivered by courier, flown promptly from Unclean Realm via sword, so I thought Sect Leader should receive it immediately instead of in the morning.”
Jiang Cheng somewhat begrudgingly allowed her hand it to him. He cracked the charcoal-colored wax. He read the message. He got about three sentences in before he felt the fires of fury start to rise up in him. He had to slow down and read carefully to make it to the end. “What is the meaning of this?” he demanded of her, because his mind was throwing the pieces together in various ways, and he despised them all.
“I have not read the message myself, Sect Leader.”
“It’s about a matchmaking arrangement for me, which Nie Huasiang has apparently already planned in its entirety to take place in three days’ time, and it says ‘with the indispensable help of your loyal staff’!”
Jiang Cheng had actually been relieved when the ninth matchmaker refused to work with him six years ago – though it had taken him over a year after that to properly examine why. He eventually concluded that the woman he was looking for didn’t exist because he wasn’t actually looking for a woman. Not because he was looking for a man instead – there was more than enough of that between Wei Wuxian and his precious Hanguang Jun. No, it was that when he really concentrated on it, the thought of taking some woman into his life and his bed and doing to her the things a man did to his wife … Jiang Cheng found the idea … not exactly repulsive, not most of the time. More like bizarre. He wasn’t interested in sharing quite that much space with another human, much less regularly. Much less to have them expect it and want it, and for Jiang Cheng to have a duty to provide it well.
In hindsight it was easy to see why he’d given the matchmakers such demands. Now he was blackballed, and he growled at anyone who so much as thought about bringing it up. They assumed it was because he was sore, and he was – just not the way they thought. He didn’t want anyone continuing to pursue it. He would have no heir by blood, but there were several promising disciples of the Jiang clan, and one of them would have to do. As for family, Jin Ling was as much his son as any natural child, and half the work now that he spent most of his time at Carp Tower. Jiang Cheng considered the matter settled.
His brave head of household, apparently, had other plans.
“Ah,” she said, not even pretending to be surprised. “When last we were at Unclean Realm, for Sect Leader Nie’s wedding, several of us were engaged in conversation by the Sect Leader and Senior Wei …”
“Who?!” Zidian crackled at Jiang Cheng’s side, and if his advisor swallowed hard in sudden fear, she deserved it. Betraying her own sect leader to parlay with those two malicious conniving …
“Sect Leader Nie and Senior Wei Wuxian,” she said again, and to her credit, it was almost as confidently as she’d said it before. “They told me they’d heard of talk among the people of Yunmeng about how you were alone so often now, with Sect Leader Jin spending so much more of his time in Lanling, and they commented on how admired you are and how compassionate your people must be to think of you, and then one of them suggested that perhaps a matchmaking event could be arranged in which suitors were carefully selected in advance and came to Lotus Pier to meet you in the grand and beautiful setting of your home …”
“And you helped!” Jiang Cheng should dismiss her for this. He should banish her from Yunmeng altogether.
He himself had been accosted by Nie Huaisang on the same subject at the same event, he now had unpleasant reason to recall. Nie Huaisang had said, “There’s something out there for everyone, Jiang-xiong. Just look at me and Meihua. Don’t you know companionship can take all kinds of shapes?” He’d been acting stupid behind his fan, as if Jiang Cheng didn’t know better now, but he was serious. Like he was insightfully asking if Jiang Cheng was just a repressed cut-sleeve who needed to get a grip. Like he thought he really knew something about Jiang Cheng.
“Sect Leader,” Jiang Cheng’s advisor said lightly, in a way that would have disconcertingly reminded him of Jin Guangyao if she hadn’t been so steadfast of heart and he hadn’t been such a disaster of a human being. “It so happens that the senior and the Sect Leader put to words something I and many of your most faithful servants had already been worrying about in our hearts. It is our desire for Sect Leader to know the peace and fulfillment of a comforting household.”
“My household is perfectly comforting,” Jiang Cheng snapped. “I am comforted a great deal by my privacy.”
“Perhaps, Sect Leader. Still, it is undeniable that the Sect Leader is even more comforted by Sect Leader Jin’s presence, when he is here. And now he will not be here very often.”
“So what?”
“So this humble advisor should report that there has been talk of various measures to handle this change among the Sect Leader’s faithful staff. Measures which include hiring concubines to, well, comfort you at regular intervals, and … medicated tea.”
Jiang Cheng could feel his teeth grinding together. His servants were so oppressed and terrorized, were they? They were driven by him to conspire and connive? He would show them ‘terrorized’ if they wanted to see it!
“Esteemed Sect Leader,” his advisor said, interrupting his internal tirade with a low bow, “please at least consider it. I did not sense any reason to doubt the good faith of Sect Leader Nie’s intentions.” She wisely left any mention of Wei Wuxian’s intentions out entirely. “I’m sure each of these suitors will have fine qualities, and they have each agreed to travel all this way and present themselves to you, despite the past.” Your past, she said without saying – she really had a lace tongue. She’d been in her post longer than all her incompetent predecessors combined because of it. “If the Sect Leader does not make a selection or at least entertain his suitors seriously, I cannot imagine the difficulty there would be trying to make any similar arrangement in the future.” This was Jiang Cheng’s last chance, she meant, because if he petulantly threw them all out after they had been assured this time would be different, there would really be no one under any heaven-forsaken rock in the entire cultivation world who would take him seriously as a match.
That wasn’t a bad thought.
There was the matter of the medicated tea and concubines, though.
“Bah,” Jiang Cheng said, storming around her and shoving the letter back into her hands. She would understand this as a ‘maybe’.
They were already coming, so he could receive them at least. Tiresome as it sounded, it would be uncivil to do otherwise, too much so even for him. Jiang Cheng would strangle Wei Wuxian if he ever saw him again. He would stuff Nie Huaisang’s latest precious fan down his precious throat.
Prompt number 10 with Fire & Reign!Michael? 💕
So this one was pretty popular! I loooove the setting for this and I’m so glad you both suggested it, so thank you! 🥵
“We’re in public, you know,” you chuckled under your breath as your back slammed into the sharp bark of a tree, stumbling over the uneven roots beneath you.
“You seem to think I give a fuck, my darling,” Michael hummed, one hand clasped around your thigh wrapped recklessly around him, the other skilfully brushing your hair from your neck clearing the way for him to pepper sloppy, open-mouthed kisses.
“Baby, you’re nervous, you just need to relax,” you weakly batted away his advances, trying to avoid eye contact with the seemingly oblivious people wandering around the luxurious complex.
“You’re mistaken, Y/N, because what I need right now is to fuck my fiancée’s brains out in front of all these people.”
It wasn’t your fault he looked irresistible in his billowing black coat and red leather gloves. It wasn’t your fault they would’ve looked better dangling from the vibrant scarlet leaves above you.
It was your fault for telling Michael just that. It was also your fault for choosing to tell him right before his first Co-operative meeting. While Ms Mead got ready for the big moment, you suggested a walk around the complex to clear Michael’s head, to catch his breath before taking the first step of his plan for the end of times.
His idea of clearing his head, however, was his hand currently trailing impatiently beneath your skirt toward your panties.
Admittedly you hadn’t put on the most seductive lingerie today, opting for high-waisted slimming pants to make a good first impression in front of the high-flying Co-operative members. Whether you could see their faces or not, you despised the thought of them chuckling behind their mirrored masks at the Antichrist’s future wife.
Slimming pants or not, they stood no chance against Michael’s forceful digits, the beige fabric swiftly yanked to one side and one finger slipped deftly between your wet folds.
“I think someone down there agrees, don’t you?” You felt him smirk against your neck, nibbling at your sensitive skin causing a hiss to slip through your teeth. You melted into his touch while he added another curled finger, your shoulders dropping comfortably and your hands exploring under his coat, scratching hastily at his shirt in a vain attempt to remove it.
Noticing your struggle, Michael took it upon himself to remove his fingers and unzip his dress pants, unleashing his length in one move. Lining up his cock with your entrance, he traced the tip up and down the length of your folds, the shivers up your spine making you buck your hips toward him.
“Baby’s very eager today,” he hummed eagerly, pulling away from your neck to look you straight in the eyes. His piercing blue irises met yours and he smiled from ear to ear. “Tell me how much you want me.”
“I—I need you, Michael—no, no, daddy, I need you daddy,” you swiftly corrected yourself, hoping your innocent mistake in the heat of the moment wouldn’t result in a later punishment.
“Good girl, now jump for me,” he instructed and you obeyed instantly, looping your legs around his hips as he pressed you closer to the scratching bark against your back.
Michael slipped through your entrance with a slow buck of his hips, his long flowing coat that so far concealed most of your actions finally betrayed you as it rustled with his slow, intimate strokes. Your eyes bolted up into your head as you greeted the familiar satisfying stretch of your walls around him, both of you releasing strained gasps when he bottomed out in one thrust.
“Do you think everybody here knows I’m deep inside you right now?” He moaned, a gloating smirk hazed over his plumped lips.
Fuck, how did you forget your surroundings that easily? Your gaze darted around you and, fortunately for you both, a dozen groups of people idly paced the boardwalk not metres from you, blissfully unaware not only of your current state underneath Michael’s jacket but also Michael’s identity.
“They don’t kno—know who you are yet, daddy,” you stuttered between his thrusts. “Once you tell them you’re the Antichrist, people will recognise you from miles away. We’ll never be able to do this in public again.”
“Ah but that’s where you’re wrong baby,” he keened his hips into you sharply as if a reprimand, his cock pressuring your sensitive spot as he drove himself deeper and deeper, filling you completely.
“Once they know who I am, I’ll be fucking you in front of them every,” he pounded hard into you with every word, “single,” again, “fucking,” again, “day.”
6. Illusion For that micro-story challenge if you still want to take those
So you ALSO get two micro stories from two different fandoms (and with vastly different tones, too) but sadly one will mean VERY little to you oops. I’m sorry about that. I’m also sorry this took like three weeks.
Like last time, watch as I try to avoid using the actual prompt word.
–
The more time that passed, the more Sammy had to consider that Joey truly had zero idea what he was doing.
Boards weren’t finished on time anymore. Writers didn’t get directions. Backgrounds stalled. Hallways flooded. Sammy threw out the second pair of shoes in a month. Fuming about it to Joey over dinner earned him nothing more than a handwave and a loud proclamation of “It’ll be fine, Sammy! You’re just not seeing the big picture! It’ll all work out and we’ll be remembered in history for all time! I thought that’s what you wanted?”
Well yeah, it was, but how was Joey going to accomplish that if the cartoon itself wasn’t being produced? He pointed that out, words barbed, and Joey turned red and snapped back that it wasn’t as if he was getting his songs done on time, either.
“Well maybe if you did something about my department being flooded-!”
“Fine, I will.”
Four days later Sammy found an ugly pump switch installed in his office, and periodically from then on people would be in and out, ensuring that spills were drained from the music department. He clenched his jaw so hard his teeth ached. The toons sat grouped around him in silence, and he took a deep breath through his nose and pushed it all down, quietly handing Bendy more fresh paper to draw on before returning to his music.
He spotted Norman, Wally, and Allison all in rapid succession bringing their concerns to Joey over the course of the next three days, and each time Joey was all smiles, all big ideas. He addressed the studio over the loudspeaker the day after Allison.
“A small memo to all administration offices: Rumors have begun to fly that we simply can’t tolerate any longer. The idea that the company is in some form of financial difficulty is untrue! And a slanderous lie against us.”
His voice was so… loud and big, in a way that was beyond just volume. There was something powerful in that voice, something that commanded attention, without needing to be angry to do it. Sammy didn’t know how to do that. Maybe Joey would take him more seriously if he did.
He set aside his pen to stare up and over at the loudspeaker outside his office, unable to tune Joey out.
“It’s also been known to me that some backroom incompetents are not trusting in my leadership.” He didn’t need to be able to see Joey to visualize him pacing the room, finger in the air as he talked. “As a leader, I’m always steering the boat, guiding our destiny. Looking at the big picture. No need for you people to worry about such complicated things. Just do whatever it is you do and trust your leader… which is me.”
The loudspeaker clicked off.
Sammy’s eyes slid to exchange looks with someone who wasn’t there anymore and hadn’t been for years, someone who really did get shit done, someone who really did always steer that boat, and his chest tightened.
How was Joey able to get so many people to listen to him? How did he suck so many people in? Why did Sammy, every single time, believe Joey could do this?
The door opened. “Sammy?” Boris called softly, ears going back. “Are…?”
Sammy sat up straight, giving Boris a slow nod, hoping his face looked at least some modicum of gentle. “It’s okay. Come in.”
They sat and composed together. Sammy actually got his songs done. He turned them in. Joey paused, looked up from his theme park plans, and gave Sammy a smile reminiscent of the sun.
“Good work, Sammy! You must have worked so hard to get these finished so fast! Well done!” He clapped Sammy on the back, and Sammy let out a quiet chuckle, rolling his eyes. “No, I mean it!” Joey insisted. “You make this look so easy, and that’s just what we need right now. This’ll bolster a lot of people. The studio family really needs this right now.”
“Yeah, well. You did hire me to write music,” Sammy pointed out with a snort, hoping his face wasn’t actually as hot as it felt.
“That I did, ‘cause there’s really no one better.” Joey beamed at him. “Now, let’s sit down and discuss the next batch of episodes, huh?”
It mostly consisted of a lot of vague concepts. Joey couldn’t tell him what the story for the fifth one even was. Sammy’s brows drew together as he suggested a few things here and there, and Joey made alterations.
As he left the office Joey smiled at him again. That was, what, four times in one day? Sammy couldn’t look away as Joey patted his back again. “Good meeting today, Sammy. I’ll see you around! Time to get back to work, now!”
Back to work. His pounding headache, begging sleep, grew louder. He pushed it down, went to the break room, and poured himself coffee. Returned to his office. It would be fine. He just had to get this pile of work done.
Seven hours later, there was another flood, and he threw out the third pair of shoes in a month.
Sammy bought galoshes, poured himself another mug of coffee, and bit his tongue.
–
His fingers slipped on the neck of the guitar, a tangle of squeaky, off-notes marring the song. He blinked against heavy eyelids, confused for all of two seconds before realizing the off-key music had come from him.
A soft, low chuckle sounded from above him, and a large, soft hand enveloped his shoulder. “I think you’re done for the night, dear.”
Greg lifted his head to lay it against his wife’s lap with a quiet laugh. She kissed his forehead. “Yeah, probably. I was on a roll though, I swear.”
“Needing sleep is a curse,” she agreed to his unspoken, mild complaint with a grin, “but sadly it’s one you need to live. Come on, bed.”
“All right, all right.” He patted her cheek before sitting up, standing up to stretch and pop his back and put his guitar away. The water nearby lapped gently at the shore as she got out of the van, pulling the mattress in it from the wall to lie flat as he stored his guitar on the passenger seat.
She laid down on her back and he curled up half against her side, half on her chest, closing his eyes with a sigh. “Goodnight, Rose.”
She stroked her fingers through his hair, smoothing it back. “Goodnight, Greg.”
ba-dum
His eyes snapped open, freezing.
ba-dum
What-
ba-dum
“Rose what-” He lifted his head to look at her, able to see even in the starlight the deep blush flooding her cheeks.
“Do… do you like it?” she asked, voice soft, nervous.
“W-well- yes but…?”
“Oh well- I heard some girls talking on the boardwalk? About how, um, humans like to listen to each other’s heartbeat? They find it soothing?” She tapped her forefingers together. “And, well- gems don’t have a pulse naturally but we can shapeshift and I don’t have to create a whole blood system to mimic a heartbeat and I thought- it might make you happy?”
Her dark eyes met his, large and uncertain and hopeful. “D-did it?”
“Oh Rose,” he breathed, heart bursting. He leaned over to press a kiss to her mouth.
His wife was the one with gravity powers, but every once in awhile, he felt like he could just float away into the sky and take her with him.
Navin Week Day 1: Thanksgiving
Pairing: Gavin Reed x Nic Blake
Summary: Nic goes on a trip down memory lane and brings Gavin with her
Word count: 2.2k+
From the moment they met, Gavin knew Nic didn’t get along with her family. He never met her parents, and didn’t push to unless she wanted him to. And from the start she made it clear that she was not in any way ashamed of him, but of her parents. When Nic moved to Detroit she only brought with her the memories she wanted, leaving behind practically her whole life. Sometimes Gavin felt guilty about this, and Nic would remind him she did it of her own free will. She hasn’t looked back since, so when she came to Gavin one afternoon and told him she wanted to visit her hometown for Thanksgiving, Gavin was taken by surprise. He loved his wife, he really did, but sometimes her ideas were questionable at best. But upon seeing the pleading look in her eyes, he agreed without question.
He took a week off from work since they’d be in Virginia Beach for a week. Nic seemed excited, she talked nearly nonstop on the flight about all of her old stomping grounds that she was going to take him to. The hotel they were staying at was right by the beach which Nic did purposely. By the time they landed she was practically vibrating in her seat. A taxi ride to the car rental office and they headed to unpack. It was much warmer than Gavin expected—he was only used to weather in Detroit. While it was still chilly, there was no snow which only slightly surprised him. By early November Detroit was normally covered in a thin layer of white but there was just a bitter cold that wrapped the city of Virginia.
Gavin noticed Nic’s driving was much better than it was in Detroit. He figured it had something to do with that she grew up on these streets and knew how native Virginians drove. The hotel was nice, Nic having booked them a room with a balcony that overlooked the beach (“We call it the Oceanfront, the Beach is the city. You’ll get used to the slang.” She explained as some point). It was only eleven in the morning so Nic eagerly requested that she drive him all the way to her favorite childhood bakery in the next city, Norfolk. It was at least an hour drive to said bakery, and upon arrival Nic was bouncing on her heels as she dragged him to the mud green, rusty exterior bakery with large words on the sign saying “The French Bakery”. His wife quickly explained how she had been going there since she was small and that she knew the owners almost personally. This reigned true as she opened the door, a small bell ringing and an older middle eastern gentleman coming from the back to greet the customers only to break out in a grin and calling Nic by an old name long forgotten. She smiled and once they reached the counter, she leaned over and hugged him as he exclaimed that it had been too long since her last visit. She introduced Gavin who was greeted just as warmly, however he felt out of place. Nic ordered two pastrami sandwiches along with a long list of desserts that Gavin knew would give them both stomach aches that night. In his opinion they spent too much money but the grin on his wife’s face made it worth it. As they drove back to their hotel, both eating their lunch and making a mess of the front seats, Nic went on to tell him how she was surprised to find the bakery still open and how she expected it be out of business. Gavin listened intensely, devouring his meal and coming to the conclusion that the expense was well spent.
They spent the afternoon unpacking and eating the desserts bought, and both went to bed with stomach aches. Nic said it was worth it.
The next morning Gavin woke up early and ordered room service, wanting to get an early start that day. Nic woke up at half past seven, and that was late in Nic’s opinion. She woke up to pancakes with blueberry syrup and a cup of coffee, and Gavin half soaked wearing nothing but a towel as he stepped out of the shower.
That day she took him to the golf course with a long winded story of how that exact golf course is where she had her seventh birthday party and she hadn’t played a game of golf since. Her inexperience showed as she lost the game, a score of 130 to Gavin’s 80. He still questioned how she managed to get such a high score on an 18 hole course. After the game they got lunch at one of the many restaurants that rested on the strip that was the Oceanfront. Many shops were closed, Nic telling him that they normally closed for the winter since there weren’t any tourists. Virginia was a tourist heavy spot during the summer, something Nic loathed in her youth. After lunch, Gavin was dragged to the many stores that stayed open. Some of them had useless souvenirs, others had neat collectibles or stones that seemed to interest Nic. She left Virginia at nineteen and coming back home after nearly a decade gave her a large wave of nostalgia. She wanted to show Gavin everything she enjoyed, although they only had a week which wasn’t enough time in her opinion.
That night, she dragged Gavin to her favorite barbecue restaurant. It was the best barbecue Gavin had in a while and he was disappointed that it’s so far away. He joked a bit that they’d have to fly down to Virginia again if he ever gets in the mood for barbecue. That night was the first time Gavin has also seen Nic so relaxed. She really seemed to be enjoying this trip on memory lane, focusing on all of the positives.
They went to bed that night in a pile of limbs as they cuddled, Gavin suggesting they come back again for her birthday.
The next few days were blurs as Nic dragged him to several different places, all of which held special places in her memory. At one point, Nic brought him to her old high school to visit her favorite World History teacher who happened to still be teaching at that school. They talked to the class, a mix of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, with a lone senior. Some of students seemed to be fascinated with Nic, asking mostly questions about college and studying advice since she had been in their exact spot. She was disappointed when it was time to leave, but she managed to catch her old English teacher as well last minute as they were leaving campus. He told her about the Holiday Thrift Shop the school held every year about Thanksgiving. Nic insisted to Gavin they go before leaving for Detroit. They did go, buying some trinkets such as healing rings that Nic insisted on using for her wrists.
The second to last of their trip was Thanksgiving Day, and Nic has something special planned for them. She drove them out for two hours, not bothering to tell Gavin where they were headed. The moment Gavin notices the sign with the word “cemetery” in it, he had a good feeling what was going on. They parked in the loop, walked through the crunchy, frost covered grass down rows and rows of gravestones. They finally arrived at the gravestone with two familiar names and dates. Those names and dates were tattooed on Nic’s forearm.
With hands stuffed in her pockets, Nic spoke quietly. “Hey grandma, hey grandpa.” She smiled softly, and Gavin saw tears forming in the corners of her eyes. “I know it’s been a long time… too long, honestly. But I didn’t forget about you. I didn’t forget about where I came from. I just needed a chance to find me.” She shrugged, giving a teary smile to the grave. “I found her. I had to lose a lot of family on the journey but… I think it was worth it. Besides, they wouldn’t like who I am now anyways. I know you two would though. Yeah, you were always proud of me no matter what.” Nic looked over at Gavin and held out her hand to him. He took it, tangling their fingers together as he rubbed his thumb over her wedding ring. “I want y’all to meet someone.” Gavin almost laughed. Her accent had gotten stronger since being there. “This is my husband, Gavin. He’s really good to me, and I love him a lot. I know if given the chance, y’all would have loved him too.”
He cleared his throat, not wanting to intrude in the moment but feeling the need to speak. “I promise I’ll take care of her.” He brought her hand up and kissed it. “Always.”
On the way back from the cemetery, Nic stopped by a small family owned diner. She ate there every time she would visit her grandparents’ grave and got to know the family that owned it. It originally owned by a lovely old woman named Ruth, and her husband. They have children, and two of their daughters worked in the diner alongside their parents. After the passing of Ruth and her husband, their oldest daughter took over the diner along with her sister, now both sisters and their children ran it. To say the diner was family friendly was an understatement. Nic insisted that Gavin get the clam chowder, her favorite soup of all time. He enjoyed it a lot more than he expected.
That evening, they went to the gift shop on the boardwalk and got some fudge. Nic got it every time she went to the Oceanfront and stated that it was the last thing she ate before leaving Virginia. She got half a pound of her favorite dark chocolate caramel sea salt fudge. Gavin got a pound which gave him the option to pick four different flavors. He picked peanut butter, red velvet, chocolate pecan, and white chocolate. The fudge ended up being their dinner, once again giving the couple stomach aches to nurse for the night.
Their last day was more intimate. They spent a good portion of it in the hotel room, watching tv on the crappy hotel television and listening to the waves. Come afternoon, Nic went out to the beach to have a walk. She was barefoot and in shorts, walking in the shallow part of the ocean where the water barely reached her ankles. Gavin joined her after a few moments, not wanting her to experience this alone. Hand in hand, they walked the length of the beach and back in comfortable silence. The waves and the cawing of crows and hooting of pigeons filled their silence. They watched the sunset, night blanketing the earth and making the air too chilly for their liking. They went back inside the hotel, opting to take a nice warm shower to combat the cool air.
Gavin sat on the bed, flipping through channels with the remote in an effort to fight off the boredom gnawing at his mind as he waited for her to get out. God, he thought, she always takes the longest showers. When Nic finally did, pajamas on and hair still soaked despite ten minutes of drying it, she sat down in front of Gavin, smiling softly. He shut off the tv.
“Thank you for doing this,” she said, taking one of his hands in hers and playing with his scarred, calloused fingers.
“It’s no problem,” he replied. “I had a lot of fun.” There was a pause. “If you ever want to do this again, just let me know. I’ll take off and we can fly down, whether just for a day or a week, or a month…”
Nic snorted. “I cannot stay for a whole month. I would go insane. Virginia gets pretty boring after a while.”
“With the places you took me, hardly seems like there’s a dull moment.”
She pressed a kiss to his knuckles. “Yeah well, I took you to the fun places.” Her smile dropped as fell into deep thought.
Gavin knew that look. “Uh oh. What’s wrong?”
“Just…” she sighed, going back to playing with his fingers, “thinking.”
“About what?”
“I’m not gonna lie, when I planned this trip… I wanted you to meet my parents.”
“Nico–”
“I decided against it on the flight here. I realized, I should focus on the things that make me happy, like you and fudge and buying stupid souvenirs that we are never going to look at again.” She laughed, and Gavin laughed with her. “The positive memories are what made me come back, the negative ones should stay in the past.”
“I know you tell me how happy I make you, and I don’t doubt you about it, but…” Gavin tried to think of the right words. He never was a words guy. Hell, Abby helped him with his vows. But Nic didn’t marry him for his words. He continued, “But this is the happiest I’ve seen you in a long time. Your smile? I haven’t seen that one since our wedding day. So, once I saw that smile that you only break out for the purest moments, I knew this would be good for you.”
Nic tackles him onto the bed, her chin resting on his chest. “You’re so sappy.”
“Only for you.”
“I know.” She grinned. “I love you.”
“I love you too, nerd.”
This country needs affordable health care...so why are hospitals so lavish and extravagantly fancy?
Here is a link to the hospital if you think I am exaggerating..... http://www.henryfordwestbloomfield.com/body_wbloomfield.cfm?id=52381 I don't have insurance, and neither does my husband because we can't afford $600 month premiums for insurance that doesn't even KICK IN until you pay $5000 out of pocket! But it is really hard to sit and listen to everyone complaining about the EXPLODING cost of hospitals these days with all the hospitals in my area that are constantly renovating and competing to be the most lavish or fancy or architecturally beautiful when what people really need are just some common sense medical care from good doctors who will take a few minutes to listen to them. For Example, I recently visited a friend who was in a local hospital in my area that has expanded to include the following...A boardwalk with HUNDREDS of exclusive shops (required a trolly inside it was so huge!), marble fountains and floors and glass elevators and railings, live TV shows in their own Greenhouses and celebrity kitchens, multiple conference centers complete with reflecting pools, grand pianos and atriums with full size trees indoors, a pediatric wing that was bult to look like a giant tree house, complete with Tree shaped doors, private rooms with twenty foot long leather couches that curve along the wall for visiting relatives, 72 inch plasma TV's in the room along with Xbox, and complete cable/internet access, Floor to ceiling bay windows for a panoramic view of the gardens and lakes on the property. Now my friend could NEVER have afforded to stay in a hotel this nice, and couldn't pay for health coverage either. Thank God she qualifies for to be insured thru a medicaid program that covers this...but who is paying for all this excessive stuff? The taxpayers in the United States. ""Hit and Run, no witnesses, lying to insurance?""
So, I was with my girlfriend and we parallel parked in a space which we soon realized was restricted. So she pulls out of the space, too close to the delivery truck in front of her, and side swipes it on the way out. We pull off to the side, see no damage to the truck, but a huge gash in the side of her car. We decide to leave, since the only damage is hers. The next morning, she goes to the body shop to get the damage assessed. They tell her it is going to be over $4000 to repair. She decides to file it with insurance, saying that she had left her car parked on the street, and found it this way, assuming it was a hit and run in the opposite direction. Had she asked me before doing this, I probably would have advised against lying about it, but she has. So, the insurance inspector is coming to assess the damage in the next few days. My question is, how rigorous are these inspections? Will these guys be able to look at a gash in the side of her car, and tell that it was inflicted by her sideswiping a truck, not the other way around?""
