love & death & kisses
AO3
Pairings: Anxceit, platonic Analogical
Characters: Virgil Sanders, Janus Sanders, Logan Sanders, Roman Sanders (mentioned), Remus Sanders (mentioned)
TW: suicide attempts, self-harm, cursing, panic attacks, v v v slightly implied sexual content, food
Words: 4,153
Summary: Virgil meets someone.
Note: Human AU, I’m bad at naming, bad at summaries, Janus is ooc, i swear this is one of my better fics
Rain seeped into Virgil’s clothes, making him even colder than he already was. He’d forgotten his umbrella at work, so he’d have to get it tomorrow. Funny how things work that way. You put things off to the side for a rainy day, but when you need them they’re not there.
A tall, slim man stood beside him. He would usually avoid other people at the train station as much as he could, but he didn’t care at this point. He was cold, tired, in a depressive episode, and frankly too out of it to care.
The other man didn’t have an umbrella either, but seemed much less bothered by it. He checked his phone occasionally, but only typed something once or twice, aside from a seemingly frustrating venture on Google Maps from what Virgil could see. He was more on edge by whatever he was seeing on his phone than the weather.
“Excuse me, do you know where the nearest hotel is?”
The first thing he noticed was that the man was absolutely beautiful.
The second was his scar.
A wide scar, seemingly a burn mark, covered the entirety of the left side of his face. It traveled down his neck and past his shirt where Virgil couldn’t see it. His left hand had it as well, a pair of gloves stuffed in his pocket. His eyes were also heterochromatic, one much paler than the dark brown of the other.
Virgil didn’t want to talk to anyone, especially after the earlier events of the day, but he tried his best. He subtly hugged his side to provide pressure comfort.
“I think there’s one a couple blocks from Edwards Station. I don’t remember if it’s south or north. I can check.”
Virgil pulled out his own phone and found that it was half a mile north. Logan had sent him a text asking him why he was so late. He didn’t want to explain that he had to spend an hour on a bench in the pouring rain, trying to calm down from a panic attack. The stranger confirmed and checked his phone again, sighing when he didn’t find what he wanted.
Virgil could see his screen slightly. He’d been talking to a contact named April, both of them using a lot of cursewords angrily at each other. It looked like a pretty bad breakup. He figured he’d been kicked out.
The train arrived a few minutes after that. Virgil was never going to be comfortable with the thought of a big, heavy object rocketing in his general direction, but he wasn’t attempting suicide or anything at the moment. He learned to deal with it.
“Sorry, Logan, I’m here now.”
Logan had been Virgil’s roommate for almost three years now. He’d been his best friend even longer. He was the one there for him when he needed it most.
“What happened?”
Logan was making dinner for the two of them, which Virgil was disappointed to find out. The rule was they could make each other meals, but whoever made it got to choose what it was, and Virgil has never known Logan to make anything junkier than chili. Virgil had got him to eat macaroni and cheese a few times, so he counted that as a win.
“I… had a pretty bad panic attack.”
“Is there anything I can do to help now?”
“I think I’ll be okay. You don’t give bad hugs, though.”
Logan smiled slightly and hugged his friend firmly. He’d looked up the best ways to comfort people physically and figured out what was best for Virgil.
“Thanks, L. What’s for dinner?”
“I’m afraid you’re going to have to make it yourself.”
“Hey, you have plenty! You’re using two pans!”
“You hate fish, Virgil.”
“That’s fish? Ew.”
“What did you think it was?”
Virgil shrugged.
“Go get dry clothes.”
Virgil changed into another, softer hoodie and sweatpants. He figured he’d get something to eat later. He could go a couple hours scrolling on Tumblr or something before he’d be really hungry.
When he turned his phone on, it was still open to the hotel directions.
I hope that guy’s alright.
He’d seen him a few times before, he realized. The unmistakable bleached hair against the man’s dark clothing he recognized had never been put to a face, but he’d been at the train station a few times before. Virgil vaguely wondered if he got off work at the same time as he did and it was a coincidence seeing him today since his whole thing with April, or whoever.
You don’t know what happened, shut up.
Virgil squeezed his arm with his fingernails, hoping to make his self-hate go away.
Today was exhausting.
He didn’t want to go to work the next day.
~~
He’d had another bad day. His boss complained about the quality of his work again. It seemed he was fucking everything up lately. He’d gotten Roman angry at him for an insult accidentally personal, and Logan angry at him because he’d started cutting again. Who could blame him, though? It was just so much easier to cope by hurting than actually trying to help himself. At least he was still showering.
At least it wasn’t raining.
It felt like it, though. There was weight on his shoulders and chest, and he needed to cry. He wished he could afford a therapist. Then again, did he even deserve help?
Stop.
His inner voice was right. He should stop being so self-deprecating, it was annoying, he’d always been an attention seek-
Stop.
Virgil exhaled, rubbing his forehead and sitting down on the bench instead of standing for the train.
“Didn’t get to thank you. For the directions.”
“Hm?”
It was the man again. This was the first time he’d seen him in the few days since then.
“I needed a place to stay, thanks for telling me where it was. I tried looking it up, then texting my girlfriend to ask her if… I ran out of data, I wouldn’t have been able to get there if you didn’t tell me.”
“Oh. You’re welcome. Glad you found the hotel.”
He half-wished he didn’t have to talk to anyone right now, but something drew him towards this man.
And then he initiated a conversation. For once in his life.
“You just get off work?”
“Yeah. I work at the zoo. Reptile house.”
“Wow. I just have a boring tech job. I’m assuming you like reptiles, which one’s your favorite?”
“It’s basic, but I’ve always liked snakes. I have three.”
“I could never handle snakes. I know they probably won’t hurt me, but I’m anxious about everything.”
Am I oversharing? Should I be talking about my anxiety? Is that weird?
“I have a deathly fear of spiders, so that’s valid.”
Virgil would have said something else, but the train came, and it was difficult to talk onboard. It was weird how easy it was to talk to this person, even though he’d just met him.
~~
They’d got to talking about snakes.
Big breeds, small breeds, the most dangerous, the least dangerous kinds of snakes. Virgil swore he was being converted to like reptiles by this man. He talked about them with so much excitement, more than he showed any other time. Mostly he was calm and collected, a bit like Logan.
“I never got your name.”
“Oh, it’s Janus.”
Like, Janice?
“As in the Roman god, not like suburban mom.”
“Ah. Virgil.”
Neither of them smiled often, so whenever someone who knew them saw the smile, it always made them a bit happier as well. It was already happening with them, even a week or two into knowing each other.
“What kind of snakes do you have?”
“I’ve got a green tree python, a corn snake, and a ball python. Diana, Mercury, Liber.”
“All Roman names, huh?”
“Yeah, I’m a bit of a nerd.”
“It’s fitting.”
It was so easy to talk to him. More so than any other stranger. Usually he’d get anxious and all his energy would be expended (he usually had a mental breakdown if it was a lot of people). Something about him, the way he talks, moves, looks at Virgil. He’s like a reptile.
Don’t get a crush on him. He’s probably straight.
Maybe he isn’t, though. He could be bi or pan or something.
The train interrupted their conversation, but Virgil kept glancing over at Janus throughout. He was looking down at his phone, he must’ve gotten more service. Virgil got off after him, but it gave him time to consider Janus before he got home.
“Logan, I’m getting a crush on a straight guy and I just found out his name today.”
“You’re odd, Virgil.”
“He’s hot. And he likes snakes.”
“You hate snakes. Wouldn’t someone with an interest in spiders be more akin to you?”
“...He’s scared of spiders.”
“Virgil…”
~~
And he did get a crush on Janus.
They talked every day they saw each other, finally remembering they could exchange numbers. They spent months getting to know each other with pretty limited interactions, as neither of them texted or called much anyway. It wasn’t exactly a good thing, though, because he either spent his time at work thinking about Janus, panicking because his boss was mad at him because he wasn’t doing his work (because he was thinking about Janus), or completely depressed because he was angry at her for giving him a panic attack. And the cycle would continue.
It turned out April was his girlfriend, and they’d been in an unhappy relationship for a year or so. He was glad she’d broke it off, but was left without a house for a while. He’d managed to share an apartment with his friend Remus and that was going okay. Virgil didn’t tell him about his depression, but was open enough about his anxiety. Luckily for Virgil, he mentioned an ex-boyfriend.
He was not straight. Maybe he had a chance.
Are you kidding? He’s not gonna want to date you, worthless bitch. You can’t make him deal with your mental health, and he probably hates you anyway.
Their interactions were mostly limited to the train station, but that only meant Virgil appreciated them even more.
Still, he wished he could be happy.
The only times he was were, well, when he was talking to Janus and when Logan gave him hugs. Talking to Logan was enjoyable, but he kept reminding himself about everything going on, everything wrong with himself, how he kept fucking up, and cutting and wanting to kill himself. With Janus, he forgot. It was so easy to smile and laugh at sarcastic jokes and the cute things he did, like blush when he laughed and stick out his tongue unintentionally.
Time flew by when they were together. There wasn’t enough time before the train came to talk nearly as long as Virgil would have liked. Still, every interaction was worth it. His love for Janus grew the more he talked about what he does, and he actually seemed interested in Virgil’s job, even though he swore it must be the most boring on the planet.
“I think you’ve conquered my fear of snakes, Janus.”
“What’s this? I’ve shown my little ball of anxiety the ways of the snake with my own love for him and reptiles.”
My little ball of anxiety? And did he just say he loved me?
Was he thinking about this too much?
One corner of his mouth was raised in a smile and Virgil couldn’t help but blush, however much he wanted to ignore it. Janus chuckled slightly and picked up the conversation again, mentioning how Diana had gotten out and managed to get herself on the couch. Virgil proceeded as well, debating whether it meant anything or not.
~~
Virgil felt sick.
He felt all things horrible. Depressed, anxious, angry, hopeless, and worthless.
Over and over it repeated.
“I’m afraid someone as unstable as you isn’t fit to work here.”
Unstable.
Unhealthy.
Worthless.
Useless.
What was he going to do? He wouldn’t have money to keep living with Logan, he had to go through the stress of finding another job, people would judge him, he wouldn’t even be able to eat.
There was nothing he could do.
He trembled as he made his way to the train station. He was going to have a panic attack. Hell, maybe he was already having a panic attack. He wanted to cry but he wouldn’t cry. He had to go home and explain to Logan and he’d just have to live until-
No you don’t.
Of course he didn’t.
He was going to the train station, goddamnit.
He rubbed his hands on his face, static buzzing in his ears as tears almost came. This was going to be okay. It was all going to be okay. Finally.
He went up a different set of stairs, avoiding Janus. As he walked, the static slowly faded and was replaced with silence. Chosen silence, that is. He could hear the cars and the wind and the rain that had just begun to fall.
Fitting.
The train was early today, thank God. Its rumbling was familiar from the distance.
He took his last few steps to the edge of the platform, ignoring the tiny bit of anxiety that came with jumping down. He vaguely heard his name called over and over by the deep voice he knew well by now. He ignored it as well, starting with a slow walk, letting the raindrops soak into his hoodie. The walk sped up, and the rain got heavier, blurring out the train’s lights in a pretty way. He forced the muffled sound of his name out again, but it was getting louder.
There’s nothing you can do.
The walk got faster and turned into a run. He needed to catch the train before it slowed down.
Funny. Catching the train.
His ears pounded with the silence. So many things to distract him, things he loved. The awful sound of rain, knowing you’re going to get wet, but reveling in it anyway. The patter of feet on ground, now wood and gravel. And his voice, his beautiful voice.
The screech from the train stopped all other sounds, even splitting the silence in the bubble he created. It was warm, he hoped it was blood, so warm, so wonderfully warm.
Janus had never hugged Virgil.
He’d assumed he wasn’t one for being touchy-feely. He was tall and handsome, like the stereotypical distant, sexy man. But he wasn’t distant. He was there when Virgil needed him, even if he didn’t always know it. He put a hand on his shoulder or took Virgil’s hands in his to calm him down. He wished he’d gotten to know what kind of embrace he would have. Was it soft? Was it firm like Logan’s? Was it too tight? Was it always awkward like some people’s?
More than that, he wanted to know how his kisses were.
He imagined them soft, then passionate. Like something Virgil had always needed, the sweet feeling of pure love. He imagined he was the type to give solemn forehead kisses when a moment was serious, and short nose ones when the moments were playful. He imagined he’d kiss wherever he could on someone’s face, on his cheeks and chin, nose, lips, neck. They’d all be perfect for the occasion. There was a difference between a peck on someone’s cheek and smushing his lips against someone’s face. A slow kiss to the jaw was different from a badly-aimed one. Every subtle difference in position would say something new.
“I love you.”
“Shut up.”
“I need you right now.”
“You need me.”
He wished he’d learned every message. He wished he’d kissed Janus before today. He wished he’d at least told him and got rejected like he knew he would. He wished he could have everything. A hug and a kiss saying ‘it’s going to be okay. Nothing’s gonna happen to you. It’s-’
“-going to be okay.”
The sound of the rain hit the stones sharply, akin to the feeling on his back. Voices shouting, his voice, and a new sound.
His heart.
Virgil let himself sink into the rhythm and the feeling of warmth that encompassed him. Something was soft through the damp fabric, moving slightly every now and then. It was the pressure of something, a body-
-Janus.
He opened his eyes to see the blurry outline of blond hair covering Janus’s face. He raised his arm slowly to push it away, just then noticing the arms wrapped tightly around him, using the most of their surface area.
Janus’s eyes were beautiful and sad, was he- crying? Virgil couldn’t tell if it was the rain or tears until he sobbed, hugging Virgil even tighter, burying his face in his shoulder and muttering words Virgil couldn’t hear.
Virgil realized he was crying too. Of course he was crying, he was… alive.
He was alive.
“I’m sorry, Virgil. Please, please know I’m here for you.”
Virgil said nothing, still mute from shock. So many things happened just then, and now he was being hugged. And it was perfect, despite the rain.
“I could’ve- should’ve died.”
“No, Virgil, you shouldn’t have. You couldn’t have, I’d never let you.”
Did he really care?
“I need to- I need to tell you something.”
This could go horribly wrong.
I don’t care anymore. I’ve made the most impulsive decision of my life today, might as well make another.
Virgil took his hand to push Janus’s chin up, thumb tracing the scar closer to his lips.
“Can I-”
“Can I kiss you, Jan?”
He let his head drop towards Virgil’s, lips so close now. He would have smiled his snake smile if he could have felt an ounce of a smile.
Virgil pressed his parted lips to Janus’s, hand resting on the back of his neck. He pulled his fingers through his wet hair, feeling its softness even now.
It was everything he had imagined.
At first it was soft and tender, but Janus deepened it, hand wriggling out from under Virgil to hold his face. The raindrops drowned out that moment from the outside world. Janus’s heart quickened, as did Virgil’s, but they both relaxed into it. The scar was rough against Virgil’s face sometimes, but it only made him want him more. All either of them could hear were the raindrops contrasting with their hearts.
Virgil wanted to kiss him longer, hold this forever. When they did break, Janus laid his burned cheek against Virgil’s.
“Do you need to go home?”
He thought of Logan and how upset he was when Virgil cut, how hard he tried and how bad he felt for him. And how bad Virgil felt for hurting him.
“Can we go to your place? It’s... closer.”
“Oh- I suppose we could. I doubt Remus will be there.”
They avoided the people trying to help Virgil, weaving through the few scattered onlookers, Janus’s arm resting around Virgil’s waist. Virgil was scared he would have a panic attack again and tried to focus on Janus.
He called a cab as he wasn’t about to take the train after that, and sat in the backseat with Virgil, not letting him go for a second. It was expensive and Virgil tried to get Janus to let him pay, but he didn’t have much of an argument. Janus half-carried Virgil up the stairs and into his apartment.
It was clean, which Virgil guessed was Janus’s doing given what he’d said about Remus, and fairly dark. It wasn’t the kind of dark that made you feel uneasy, but rather as in lighted only with soft ambient light. He didn’t get a good look at their living room before Janus pulled him into his bedroom. It was painted a pretty yellow and lit with a color changing lamp, which Janus turned to purple.
He sat Virgil down on the bed, who was still rather dazed from the day. Janus rummaged through his clothing drawers until he found a shirt smaller than the others and an old-looking pair of sweatpants.
“Here, you can change into this.”
Janus grabbed some clothes for himself and left the room for a moment, allowing him privacy. Virgil removed his soaked hoodie and Evanescence t-shirt, putting on the soft purple one Janus had found. It had short sleeves, but he didn’t have anything to lose at this point. He put on the sweatpants, soft and warm and opened the door for Janus. He was changed into a big hoodie that Virgil would kill to wear.
“Are you comfortable?”
“Yeah, I- I think so. Sorry about the, the cuts.”
“It’s okay, Virgil. If you want me to get you something with long sleeves-”
“I think I’ll just end up stealing your hoodie at some point. Otherwise… it’s fine.”
“Okay.”
Virgil sat down on the bed again, craving the soft blankets. Janus took his spot beside him, wrapping one arm around his shoulders.
“Thanks, Jan. It- I’m, I’m alive because of you. I don’t know how I could repay that.”
“Tell me when this happens, and I’d die happy.”
Virgil smiled, leaning against Janus. He pushed himself against the wall, pulling Virgil along with him. He heaved the thick blanket around him and Virgil, but mostly Virgil. He snuggled into the weight and comfort, still sitting against Janus as if he were the only thing keeping him balanced.
“What happened today?”
“I got… fired. ‘Cause I’m too depressed to work. I don’t know what I’m gonna do.”
“I can help you find a job, V. It doesn’t have to be the end.”
“Sometimes it just… feels that way. Like you’re never going to get out of this pit of loneliness and you’re sure everyone hates you, and you’re so scared something will go wrong all the time even though you don’t really care.”
“I don’t hate you. And I know you can end this the healthy way. Shall we start with some ice cream?”
“Ice cream’s not exactly healthy, Janus.”
“Ssshh.”
He left for a moment and returned with two tubs of chocolate ice cream and a spoon for each of them.
“No bowls? And two whole tubs?”
“Mhm. It’s better that way. And you could have both of them if you asked.”
“Nah, you deserve some ice cream too. I probably hurt you a lot by doing that.”
“Mm-mm, Virgil. You’re hurting, not me. Self-care rule number one: you’re better than everyone for a while, put your feelings first.”
“I’m not.”
“Pretend. Now, what would you like to do?”
Virgil considered the question for a moment. It might be nice to listen to music, or to distract himself with a game or movie, but he didn’t really want that.
“Honestly?”
“Yes.”
“I… want to kiss you.”
Janus turned pink for a moment, before smiling his smile with one corner of his mouth.
Before he could say anything that he wanted to, Virgil kissed that smile. He wondered what it would be like to do so many times, so he wasn’t going to miss his opportunity. He put his ice cream down to hold Janus’s face with cold fingers, savoring the feeling of the little half-smile turning surprised and then into a giddy smile that began to kiss back. Virgil grinned when it ended, looking back into Janus’s eyes.
“So you’re going to surprise kiss me now?”
“Yep-”
Janus, just as quickly as Virgil had, kissed him quick on the nose, eliciting a blush from Virgil this time.
“Unfair, Janus.”
“Nah.”
“I’m gonna pout and eat my ice cream now.”
“Is there anything else we can do while eating ice cream?”
“I suppose we could watch a movie.”
“Lion King?”
“...Lion King? I mean, yeah, sure, okay!”
He smiled as Janus put the movie on, his familiar excitement seeping through. Virgil managed to wrestle the soft hoodie from him, revealing that one, he had no shirt, and two, that Virgil would cuddle Janus’s burn marks and he appreciated that. As Virgil fell asleep next to him, he pressed his lips to his forehead, who was just awake enough to feel.
And one by one, the messages were unlocked to him. Once, after a dance, came the desperate, passionate kiss that told him “I need to kiss you.” One Disney marathon he came to feel the peppered kisses on his cheeks that said “You’re adorable.” After a weekend trip alone he got the long cheek kiss that said ‘I missed you.’ When he finally got a job, he was given the messy kiss, cheeks held tight that said “I’m so proud of you.” One tired night he blushed at the kisses on his jaw and neck that said “You’re hot and I’m bored.”
And again and again and again, the tender forehead kisses that said “I’m here for you. I love you.”

the one with the sonic showers
for @julie-yard , (sorry it’s so ooc but it’s got DaForge in!)
word count (excluding the compulsory grouching i do in the brackets next because i ran out of space in the tags whoops) : 2233
(also this is my first ever piece of writing using solely other people’s characters so i apologise in advance lol)
(constructive criticism welcome just please be nice i cry really easily)
(hey so data is literally an android and geordie is CHEIF FRICKIN ENGINEER and i am Bad At Physics. so there are large gaps in dialogue which i would LOVE to do some more research on (not sarcasm i really would but i would get sucked into it and never actually write lol) but i’m more of a chemistry/biology Basic Bitch™️ so even though i’m supposed to know enough about sound waves to write that dialogue i don’t trust myself enough to do it)
(also, i’m a First Aid Responder, not a doctor, damnit! so all medical talk in this is me reading three (3) articles on chronic tension headaches and then seeming myself fit to write about it)
(sorry in advance, here you go!)
The alarm he had set for twenty minutes before the beginning of his shift made Geordie feel as though he was being hit repeatedly by a phaser. Wincing, he groped for his VISOR, slamming his other hand on the button that would stop the infernal shrieking. Logically, Geordie knew the noise was just barely above a soft trill, but as he rummaged around his drawer for his acetaminophen hypo, he was considering having a word with the senior medical staff about limiting the volume of the ships alarms in the interest of the crew’s wellbeing.
As usual, the hypo did very little for the inescapable pressure on his skull, and the activation of his visor did nothing but restore him to the state he was before the hypo. Grimacing, he dragged himself over to the replicator in the far corner of his room, toeing off the black regulation bottoms he’d slept in and tossing them into the laundry shoot as he walked by. “Coffee, black, sixty degrees Celsius.”. Hoping against hope the caffeine would keep the dull pain from spiking until he could administer her perscription later in the day. He rolled his head between sips of the slightly too bitter beverage, with the intention of loosening up in order to stave off neck and shoulder tension later in the day. “Computer, set a reminder to schedule a meeting with Dr.Crusher for me, will you?” The computer’s answering trill was, again, much too loud for his liking, so he gave a second order for all automated auditory responses to decrease intensity by 50%.
Sliding off his VISOR, Geordie decided to pick out his uniform and dress using muscle memory, the idea of putting his VISOR back on before absolutely necessary was enough to make his stomach turn, violently. “OK, so don’t put it back on, Geordie, it’s not rocket science.” he sighed to himself as he tugged the zip up, catching his thumb in his collar. Adequately annoyed at himself and already aching to take another shot of his hypo, Geordie lamented the fact he hadn’t decided to shower, the warm water would’ve done some good towards the inevitable spasms his upper back and neck would undoubtedly engage in later that evening. Sitting down, he pressed the heels of his almost-cool hands against his temples, rubbing around the terminals for his VISOR, where the ache was the worst. As he considered requesting sick leave and how to tell Riker he’d be missing poker tonight without raising suspicion, his communicator went off, the obnoxious trill sending a jolt of nausea through him as Barclay’s voice rang around his room.
“Barclay to Commander LaForge.”
Geordie winced and sighed before tapping his badge. “LaForge here.”
While Reg was relaying his message, Geordie reluctantly picked up his VISOR and clicked it into place. “There’s been several complaints shipwide about sonic shower malfunctions, the captain has asked us to assemble a team and look into it as soon as possible, sir.”
“Acknowledged. I’ll be in Engineering as soon as I can. Until then, Reg, you get a few ensigns and run a few tests on the basic functions in the malfunctioning units on the lower half of the affected decks. I want the results updated in real time so I can check them against the ones I’ll run. LaForge out.” Geordie considered popping into Sickbay on his way to see if he could get a muscle relaxer to avoid any serious cramping of his neck muscles, but the acetaminophen seemed to be kicking in, and he’d hoped this meant the worst was over.
He couldn’t have been more wrong.
After numerous hours of running several different sonic showers at increasingly higher frequencies, Geordie felt as though his head was going to burst. He’d missed the hour he was supposed to re-administer his painkiller by a good thirty minutes, and the ensign he had taken with him to the upper decks had noticed his smile was less a smile and more a pained grimace. When she’d suggested he let her run a few tests while he updated the logs, Geordie had politely declined with a small laugh and an even smaller smile. When she repeated the question ten minutes later, he complied without a word.
Lunchtime arrived what felt like years later, when Geordie finally caved and turned himself into sickbay.
“Hey, Alyssa, can I talk to you for a second?” Geordie held out his hand in a sort of rushed, half-thought out greeting that immediately told Alyssa what it was Geordie wanted to talk to her about.
“Geordie, maybe you should sit the rest of your shift out.” Was all she said in the way of sympathy as she administered several of his usual hypos. This was why Geordie came to her before any other nurse on the Enterprise. Her sympathy was just enough to get her job done and she kept her pity to herself for the most part.
“Well, you know what they say!” Geordie jumped to his feet, rubbing his hands together briefly before giving one sharp clap to test the rapidly receding pressure in his head. “No peace for the wicked. I’ll see you around, Alyssa, thanks for the help.”
As Geordie moved out from behind the thin curtain Alyssa had pulled for privacy, he found himself looking straight up at his best friend, and his heart skipped a beat. “Data!” He grinned.
“Geordie.” Data’s head nodded in acknowledgement. Geordie admired the halo his VISOR caused around Data’s head. “I fail to see the relevance between your chosen turn of phrase and Nurse Ogawa’s reccomendation. I also object to the comparison you have drawn between yourself and the afformentioned ‘wicked’.”
“Data, it was a joke.” Geordie smiled again, the combination of the slightly stronger meds and his closest friend reducing the pain to a tolerable level. The fact his crush on Data was all-consuming only meant he had something to distract himself from what pain remained. “And Alyssa was just being nice, you know how I’d love to take an evening off to fool around on the holodeck.” Geordie immediately regretted his choice of words, but Data remained oblivious, his concerned head tilt still in place.
“Nurse Ogawa is not known for the benevolent prescription of unnecessary sick leave, Geordie.” He opened his mouth as if to suggest something, before closing it again and taking a step forward, placing his hand on Geordie’s shoulder. Now, it was Geordie’s chest that was under considerable pressure. “Do not hesitate to contact me if necessary. I must return to duty.”
Geordie chuckled in order to hide his disappointment at the loss of Data’s hand on his shoulder, shaking his head fondly. “No problem, Data. I’ll do that.”
Geordie was nearly out the door of Sickbay when Data called after him. “I shall see you at poker tonight, Geordie.”
It didn’t sound like a question, but Geordie knew Data well enough to know he was hoping to prompt a response. “I dunno, buddy. I’m kinda tired, if I’m being honest. I’ll let you know later, ok?”
Data blinked once, then twice, then nodded, his head adjusting itself into a neuteral position. “That is satisfactory.”
This time, Geordie laughed, the pain in his shoulders creeping up on him slowly once again, despite Data’s adorable half-attempt at a wave as the doors slid shut behind him. “Computer, what time is it?”
The shrill chime that preceded the response didn’t particularly hurt his head, but Geordie could feel his shoulders tensing even further, and he knew beyond doubt there was no way he would make it to cards that evening.
That evening found Geordie still in one of those awful, shrieking showers. He’d been technically off-duty for an hour now, and desperately needed to take off his VISOR for ten minutes, but Barclay had taken one look at Gerodie’s drawn face and refused to leave him alone in the bathroom they were checking out. “Hey Reg, do me a favour?” Geordie needed to get him out of the room so he could slip off his VISOR and massage his temples. That, or he needed to stop working with the shower on; the high frequencies were really not helping his situation.
“Sir?” Barclay’s hands had stuttered to a sudden stop the minute his commanding officer had spoken.
“Could you run and grab a coffee? The Gamma Shift doesn’t start for another five minutes, we can take a break from this instantaneous reporting.” Geordie didn’t take his head out from the panelling they had removed half an hour ago, afraid Reg would see the pained twist he could feel in his lips and call Dr.Crusher. He knew he could handle it, it wasn’t the worst pain he’d ever had from his VISOR, and he’d managed to subtly administer another hypo when he’d gone to grab them both a water around twenty minutes ago.
“Yessir.” Was Barclay’s anxious reply, and there was a prolonged silence between his response and the sound of the doors opening and shutting. They’d had to shut down all replicator and environmental control activity while they worked, which meant Geordie had five minutes to give his head a well-deserved break. Clicking the VISOR out of its terminals and heaving a sigh of relief, Geordie felt his head swim. Taking a few steadying breaths, he fumbled blindly at the sonic shower’s controls, silently cursing himself for not having shut it off before removing the VISOR. Only succeeding in shifting the tuning to an impossibly more painful frequency, Geordie sat down on the floor of the shower, back pressed against the back wall, head falling back against the cool slate. He rubbed at his eyes. “Goddamn.” His sigh made his head swim once more, and his subsequent calming breaths only served to worsen the sensation. The constant drone pressed down on his head so much the pain from that morning seemed as intimidating as... Geordie couldnt think properly; he could only conjure up an image of Data as he worked at his desk in his quarters, resolutely ignoring Spot on his stack of PADDs, aside from his gentle, regular strokes. The image made him smile, which caused his tensed muscles in his neck and shoulders to spasm, violently. Again, the deep breathing Deanna had helped him with when he’d first arrived on the ship did nothing but worsen the sensation.
Geordie dragged his shaking hand down his face, which came away damp with what Geordie briefly considered to be sweat, before everything went black.
There was a hand on either side of his face, a comforting pressure being applied by what felt like a pair of thumbs around the terminals on his temples. “Do not be alarmed, Geordie.”
Data was whispering, Geordie noted, and his tender head thanked the android for it. “Data? What happened?”
The thumbs stopped rubbing briefly, but resumed without hesitation when Geordie accidentally, slightly whimpered at the loss. “You passed out while completing your tests on the malfunctioning sonic showers. Dr.Crusher administered a variety of medications which she noted in your medical log, if you would like for me to read them to you?”
Despite his hushed tones, Geordie’s head really wasn’t going to put up with any noise for very much longer. “No, no talking, please, Data.” he managed to get out, curling up a little, before starting, which caused his shoulders to spasm lightly. “Wait, my VISOR-” Data’s hands shifted to the problematic muscles immediately, massaging firmly.
“I have your VISOR on the arm of your couch to my left. However, given the negative effect it has had on your condition throughout the day, Dr.Crusher has requested you refrain from replacing it this evening.” There was a pause as a mildly confused but very tired and complacent Geordie allowed himself to be gently manoeuvred into a reclined position, his head in Data’s lap while the second officer returned his hands to Geordie’s head. “I am here to assist you in every way possible, and I have downloaded various massage techniques frequently used on those who suffer from long-term, extreme tension headaches.”
“Why?” Geordie mumbled, slowly drifting off despite the pressure slowly returning with a vengeance behind his eyes.
Another pause, the hands stilled. Geordie frowned and they started to move again, but the silence continued. Just as Geordie was about to fall asleep, Data spoke. “You are my friend.”
“Huh?”
“I am helping you because you are my friend, Geordie.”
Geordie smiled softly, shaking his head. “I know that Data.”
Another pause, much more brief, and the hands did not stop their gentle rubbing on his delicate head. “What was the purpose of your inquiry, Geordie?”
And Geordie, as much as he wanted Data to know, he couldn’t tell him. Couldn’t say he wanted Data to be there because he liked the domesticity of this situation, to be there not only to massage his knotted muscles and play nurse, but to hold his hand, to kiss his forehead, to... “No purpose, Data.” He sighed softly, settling further into his best friend. “None at all.”
His breathing had lengthened, he was almost fully asleep but not quite there yet, when he felt cool lips press against one of the terminals, then the skin right beside it.
“Hmmm, Data?”
A pause. “Yes, Geordie?”
A mumble, the beginnings of a snore.
Slightly more urgently, “Geordie?”
“Said, I l’ve ya,,,”
Several minutes of soft snores and gentle massages later, an almost unintelligible: “I believe... I am in love with you also.”
fin
i was going to put in a bit about Data finding Geordie because he hadn’t gotten back to him about the poker but then i felt like it took from the kind of,,, geordie pov vibe i had going idk
hope you enjoyed!
sorry for all the inevitable typos i did this on my ipad and i didnt proof read because i’m kinda using this one shot prompt thing as a warm up to writing as opposed to actually writing fic? idk if that makes sense but i enjoyed writing it and i hope you enjoy reading it!

Before it was wrong it was right...
Tumblr media
Summary: It’s just wrong…but at the same time so good. But all the wrong things have their consequences.
Paring: Bucky Barnes x Reader, Steve Rogers x Reader, Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Nick Fury
Warnings: angst, kidnapping, tension, dub-con (slightly non-con?), smut, unprotected sex, dirty talk, violence, blood, OOC Steve/Bucky (just in case)
Wrong-Right Masterlist
“You really captured Cap too?” Nat gasps.
“He came to my apartment, knowing everything. Including your role in my plan. I’m sorry Natasha.”
“Nah, he will calm down. What are your plans for Steve?”
“I never planned on hurting him until you showed me the data. Until I realize he pushed me into Bucky’s arms on purpose. I totally forgot about the reason I gave in to Bucky that day. It was Steve flirting with Claire!”
“Shit, that slut!” Your friend mutters.
“She seems to be not able to keep her hands to herself.”
“Obviously, Y/N. What now? I mean first, the Winter Soldier gets missing and now Cap. People will get suspicious sooner or later. You must be quick now. Shall I help you?”
“No, Nat, you can’t get involved even more. I already put you into danger. We shouldn’t stay in contact over the next days. I’ll send you a message after I’m done.”
“Will you kill him?”
“I’m not a killer, Natasha. I only want them to feel the pain I felt over all these years. After that, I’m prepared to live with the consequences.”
“Even if it means jail?”
“Yes, Natasha. I’m not myself for over four years. My life is barely a life so nothing can scare me anymore.”
“Whoa…”
“Promise me to not come around. I swear I will not do anything to put you or Wanda into danger.”
“I promise but if you need my help, Y/N…”
“I will call you, pinky promise.”
“You better do so.”
----
“Any idea how to get out of this situation?” Steve asks.
“If I had an idea I wouldn’t have stayed in this bed for over four days, Stevie.”
“We really hurt her…”
“Steve, this is my fault, not yours.”
“I brought you back into her life, and I flirted with Claire. She’s right about the look I gave her friend. I remembered the hot sex and forgot about my fiancée for a moment.”
“Damn, Steve, I had the hottest sex with Y/N. That’s the reason I want her back, well one of the reasons.”
“She was always shy in bed.” Steve talks back.
“Maybe as she was scared to let her inner slut out with the golden boy between her legs.” Bucky chuckles.
“You really are a pervert, Y/N is right.”
“Don’t act like your cock isn’t hard at the thought to give it to her real good. You enjoyed the video, didn’t you, Stevie.”
Clearing his throat Steve tries his best to not think about the way your noises turned him on. Or the fact he jerked off to the video more than once.
“That’s…”
“Oh, I can see it all over your face, Steve. You want to have her and not in a vanilla way. Damn you are as crazy about her as I am. We need to get out of here to win here over again.”
“How do you intend on doing this, Buck? She hates both of us.”
“But it was right before it got wrong, punk. I mean we need to get her back. I can’t stop thinking about her.”
“Dude you are scaring me with the looks you are giving me.”
“I’m not into you, Stevie. I only want to devour her for hours…days…fuck…for the rest of my life. Maybe I’m willing to share her.”
“I don’t think she will like the idea you offer to share her. Especially as she ain’t your girl!”
“Who cares about details, Steve? I mean I love her; you love her and I’m damn sure she loves us. We just need to find a way to win her over again.”
“I wish I had your confidence.” Steve groans.
“Just leave this to me…”
----
“Well, you are still alive. Congratulations boys. As I’m not a heartless bitch I bought some food and water too.” You say checking your phone about the remaining dose of the drug.
“This drug is influencing my system pretty bad.” Steve lies.
“Don’t lie, Steve, I know everything about your status due to the little bullet in your body. Don’t worry, the bullet will destroy itself and cause no harm.”
“You’re a genius when it comes to inventions.” Bucky tries giving you his brightest smile.
“One false compliment and you believe I let you go?”
“No, not at all. I’m enjoying your company, just like Steve. How about you come here, and we make our stay a bit more pleasant for all of us?”
“Seriously, Buck? You want to win her heart over by offering a threesome?” Steve mutters.
“Guys, this is too funny. Do you really believe I would ever let one of you touch me again? I may have been stupid enough to love both of you, but I’m not dumb. By the way, I told Peggy’s niece you can’t see her any longer as you are busy fucking someone else. Well, it was not me telling her so, it was you.” You chuckle.
“You little devil!” Steve grunts giving you a dangerous glare.
“Did she scream your name, Cap? She looks so boring to me.” You whisper crawling onto the bed to push Steve onto the mattress. “Did you fuck her hard or all vanilla? I bet she’s a dirty little slut underneath her boring outfit.”
“We didn’t…so far.” Steve gasps when you grind against him. Bucky is watching the scene with darkened eyes. Before he can touch you another dose of your drugs floats his system.
“What the fuck?” He groans.
“Oh, I timed the dose for you, as you are a pervert. Cap will get his next dose in around an hour.”
“I will break free and make you mine,” Bucky growls.
Turning your attention back toward Steve you shrug. “Heard this before, Buck. Don’t think so my dear. So, Stevie shall we check your messages?” You say and he glares at you once again. Simply ignoring his boring looks you grab his phone from your nightstand.
“You will not be able to get access.” He mutters.
“I know you are using a special date…Peggy’s birthday…right? The ideal woman no one can compare with.”
“Shit, Stevie this is just stupid.”
“Cut it, Buck,” Steve mutters knowing you will fail using Peggy’s birthday.
“Damn…you changed the password? Tell me the right combination and I might not hurt Sharon or your beloved Claire.”
“Never, kitten.” Steve states.
“I can still hurt your friend over there. I mean the world needs Captain America but your friend is…dispensable.” You chuckle looking at Bucky.
“Don’t give it to her…she will not hurt me…right doll?”
A grin on your face you walk toward Bucky, swaying your hips. Stopping in front of the bed you smile at him and then you punch his nose harshly. Blood is dripping out of his nose and he makes an odd noise.
“That was just foreplay. I will and I can hurt him…your decision, Cap.”
“Fine…it’s the day we…you know…the day we had our first date.” Steve says and your eyes widen.
“If this is a lie your friend will pay the price,” you threaten getting a knife out of your boots.
“I swear it’s the truth, please stop hurting him. This is insane. Let’s talk things out, make things right.” Steve tries and you chuckle.
“The mighty Captain America tries to negotiate with me? Whoa…never thought this is possible.”
Checking the messages your grin gets wider and you start cackling. “Damn she’s pissed. Whoa…even threatens to cut your cock off. Didn’t think she can be so…obscene. I like the girl.”
“Why did you have to hurt her? She’s only a good friend.”
“The gap filler for Peggy? Hmm…I did her a favor. I know how it feels to stand in someone else’s shadow, Steve. Leave her be so she can get happy with someone else. Don’t hurt her as you hurt me.”
“You will not like your punishment,” Steve warns.
“I will have a shower and prepare some food for you. Be good boys…” You say leaving the room.
----
“She forgot to turn on the device, Steve. I can’t move but I saw your hand twitch while she was turning you on.”
“I feel stronger. Not like a super soldier but like before. I will try to get up and take care of her.”
“Be careful. She has some nice new moves.”
“I don’t intend on fucking her.”
“I meant fighting moves you pervert, Rogers. I think Natasha trained her.”
“Got it. Relax Sergeant while I save your ass once again.”
“Blah…blah…Cap…”
----
Warm water cascades down your body while you try to figure out what to do next. You already destroyed Steve’s and Bucky’s relationships. You feel bad for Sharon; she seems to be nice but Claire, you hate her with all passion.
Lost in thoughts you don’t hear the bathroom door open before it’s too late as two strong hands push you against the wall. You try to break free but even without his enhanced strength, Steve is taller and stronger. In this position, you can fight him, and he knows it.
“Hmm…that’s how I like you.” Steve purrs pressing his naked body against yours.
“Why are you naked?” You gasp trying to wiggle out of his tight grip.
“I thought you want to film us too. Bucky wanted me to escape but I preferred sending Tony a message he will receive in around an hour. Enough time to make you mine again.”
“Dream on, Cap.” You spat but the hand snaking between your legs will find out the embarrassing truth.
“Dammit! Buck was right, you like getting ordered around. Does it turn you on? Do you want me to fuck you against this tile wall, marking your body?”
“Asshole.” You mutter as he starts working your clit with his fingers.
“Such a needy girl. James and I decided we want you back, we want you both. I know this is not a conventional constellation, but you will see we can make you happy. I still love you, Y/N. Give me the chance to show you how much.” Steve whispers into your ear.
“Let me go, arrest me but stop touching me…shit…stop…touching me.” You pant trying to keep your body from reacting to Steve’s touch.
“You’re beautiful, smart and strong. I will not give you up like last time. We belong together, we always did, and you know it, Y/N. Just give in to me. I can still punish Bucky if you want me to.” He says planting a soft kiss to your shoulder.
“No. Get off me, Captain Asshole!” You mutter feeling his hard cock pressing against your lower back.
Humming Steve kisses, the back of your head, nuzzling his nose into your wet hair. For a moment you want to give in, just feel a connection to him again but you are not the weak girl any longer.
Slamming your head backward you caught Steve off-guard. He didn’t think you would fight him right now. Turning around you punch his nose with full force when you try to land another swing he catches your hand in time.
“Such a well-trained girl. Natasha did a great job, but you are not able to defeat me.” Steve warns.
Rough hands grab your upper arms to keep you in place as he tilts his head to kiss you roughly. Not able to fight back you can only part your lips for the super soldier as he devours your mouth.
Pressing you with his firm body into the wall he grins at you. Knowing you can’t fight him now he believes he won but you are not someone to back down any longer.
Slamming your forehead against his you chuckle when he let go of you, so you start sprinting out of the bathroom, grabbing your coat and purse on the way, you want to leave the apartment but Steve is already behind you.
Pushing you onto the small couch he grabs your coat and purse to toss them aside. Rough hands spread your legs open so he can move between them. His weight presses you into the couch and you close your eyes.
“Mine. You were always mine, Y/N.” He whispers in your ear and you want to give in for a moment but your anger wins the upper hand so you slap his cheek harshly.
Not reacting to your outburst Steve presses his lips onto yours. You want to bite him but his tongue invades your mouth to distract you from the ‘main’ act. Too lost in the feeling of his lips on yours you whine as he starts pressing his thick cock into you.
“Steve…” You whimper when he’s bottomed out. The weight of his body, the feeling of his cock stretching you wide and his lips claiming yours brings back pleasant memories but you know this won’t last so your push against his chest.
“I want you…you’re the one…let me love you.” Steve rasps voice lower than ever before. His hips move on their own. The first drag of his cock against your walls makes you cry out. Your hands paw at his biceps so you can feel the muscles work while he pumps hard into you.
Your head lulls back, moans escape your lips and you are close to forgetting everything around you but then you hear Bucky chuckling in your bedroom and the spell is broken. Right when you want to push Steve of you he hits the right spot and the knot in your stomach bursts open. Trembling underneath the tall super soldier you gasp when he thrusts, four, five more times before filling you with his seed.
His hard body pressed against yours he lies on top of you, not intending on pulling out. As you start pushing against his chest he looks down at you. The tears are evident he went too far, brought back unpleasant memories, so he pulls gently out of you. Handing you his shirt he avoids looking you into your eyes.
“You should get dressed. Tony will be here soon and you know this will have consequences.” Steve says softly.
When he tries to touch you, your hands slap his larger one away. You don’t want a gentle gesture, you don’t want him or his friend.
----
“What do you mean with I can’t see my agent? Y/N is my responsibility. As far as I know, your two super soldiers broke into her apartment and forced themselves on her.” Fury yells.
“I can assure you this is not what happened,” Tony tries.
“Really? Cause Natasha came to me, asking for my help. We both know the doctor found Steve’s sperm in Y/N. It’s proof that at least one of your Avengers violated her.”
“I swear the Captain and James would never do such a thing.”
“Listen, she’s in your cell for over three weeks. I want to see my agent.”
“I can’t allow this…she’s not in a stable state of mind …not after Bruce told her something important yesterday.” Tony sighs.
“What do you mean?”
“Look, you are right. Both men had sex with her, but they didn’t force her. You can check the videos…I mean she had a security system and it recorded everything. One of our female agents checked the material.”
“I still don’t know why she’s in an unstable state of mind!” Fury yells now.
“Okay…fine. She’s pregnant with twins and both men are the father…” Tony yells back and Fury’s mouth falls open.

Nesta in ACOFAS: My Overall Opinion
Below the cut is my stance and interpretation of everything Nesta and surrounding Nesta in ACOFAS. I’ve been as exhaustive as possible in my answer because I’m only making this one post to go through it all.
It is broken up into 5 sections (with subcategories):
How the trauma built
How it manifests
Rhys & Feyre’s responses (with some overall references to the IC here)
Cassian’s role
Nesta overall
The TL;DR of what follows is that I support the direction SJM is taking these characters and it is completely logical as they have been presented to us.
How the Trauma Built
This is to the people saying Nesta was OOC because of her PTSD (though again, Maas is these character’s God and Creator, it’s impossible for her to write OOC).
Nesta was isolating herself quite a bit in the beginning of ACOWAR. She wanted nothing to do with anybody, and also isolated Elain with her. She had a sort of ally in that regard.
Over the course of ACOWAR, Nesta started reaching out more and engaging more with Prythian and the other members of the Inner Circle. She even came close to reconciling with Feyre (more on that with “Rhys and Feyre’s Responses”).
For Nesta at that point, being alone to process her thoughts and then becoming more immersed in Velaris and Prythian was the right path. It helped her find the ground again after her trauma in the Cauldron, which is very much described in WAR as a violation with similar descriptors to being raped (feeling that their body did not belong to them anymore).
And then Nesta killed Hybern.
She was built as being incredibly resistant to even the idea of war, and never wanted to fight (More on that later in “Cassian’s Role”). The IC were the fighters, she wanted to maintain the sort of innocence that came from not surrounding herself in blood.
Not only did Nesta kill Hybern, but she killed a dying man. Elain struck the fatal blow- the knife through his neck. He was done for. Because of what he’d done to their father and to Cassian, Nesta snapped and literally sawed off his head while he was still alive.
ACOFAS builds around Nesta’s thoughts of that moment, the last words Cassian thought he would ever say to her, and her own fears during that time.
I think Nesta would have been alright if “just” the Cauldron happened (not that that was a weak blow). She was finding her way and her strength, she’d accepted that at her core nothing was different. She was still the same Nesta she’d always been- imperious and not someone to fight a war.
But then she was the one who ended it, and that shattered her sense of self and with it any progress Nesta had made against the trauma of the Cauldron. After 1 traumatic event, it is hard enough to find your footing. After two, spaced far enough apart that some semblance of recovery had been made? Utterly devastating.
How it Manifests
The Drinking
The IC has always processed things with the assistance of alcohol. Rhys’ answer to Feyre’s marriage to Tamlin was a plan to get blackout drunk. Cassian having a bad meeting with Nesta in MAF meant he went for the liquor when he came home. Feyre fighting with Nesta in WAR earned advice from Mor that it was fine to drink directly from the bottle.
Giving Nesta space to drink all she wanted might not have seemed entirely wrong (at least, at first). Fae healing probably means over-drinking isn’t as much of a threat to their health, and it took them a while to realize and accept that Nesta wasn’t just drinking off stress, she was well on her way to becoming an alcoholic.
I hesitated there to say that she is an alcoholic mainly because she wasn’t showing signs (in her PoVs) of an addiction mindset. She never seems to crave alcohol, and I think overall rather than an addiction it’s an expression of her trauma and attempt at self-medication of sorts (not to say it hasn’t morphed into full alcoholism).
Again, that isn’t a denial that it’s alcoholism, just a hesitation in assigning the term in this circumstance without more data.
The Sex
If you haven’t read the ACOMAF excerpt “A Court of Wings and Embers” about Cassian and Nesta’s meeting, it revealed something about her back story that she (and Cassian) never mentioned in the core trilogy or FAS: When Nesta broke up with Thomas Mandry, he attacked her and nearly raped her. He got as far as tearing her dress before she managed to escape.
In “Wings and Embers”, Nesta is even sensitive to Cassian’s normal taunts and demeanor because of that experience, she has a bit of a flashback of sorts while they’re talking and he realizes what must have happened. Nesta refuses to give him the name of the man who tried to hurt her (because he promises very sincerely that he will kill him).
For Nesta to go from that to unchecked anonymous sex ties directly into her references in ACOFAS to feeling completely numb inside. I think in forcing herself to bed some random stranger- which “Wings and Embers” makes clear is unacceptable to her- she was trying to trigger some kind of shame or horror response in herself.
She was trying to feel anything. Even if that feeling was fear.
The IC has always been sex-positive, and they didn’t have that critical piece of knowledge Cassian alone holds about Nesta’s past. So they had no hope of catching Nesta’s behavior early on as the cry for help it is.
In that vein, some people do use sex as a coping mechanism after stress or a traumatic experience (This one being killing Hybern). Nesta was lost and needed to figure out who she was after her self-image was shattered. The sex alone might not be the best way to handle it, but it didn’t raise flags for Feyre and the IC because they didn’t know the piece of Nesta’s story Cassian was pledged to secrecy over.
I did not see slut-shaming anywhere in ACOFAS. If anything, Feyre dwells on it because it’s the piece that really doesn’t fit for her. Nesta used Feyre’s sexual relationship with Isaac as fodder to make her miserable. Nesta is the one who slut-shames in TAR and even leans towards it in MAF when she’s snapping at Rhys (More on that in “Rhys and Feyre’s Responses” next).
Feyre isn’t sitting there going “Wow Nesta is a slut”, she’s trying to connect the dots, again while missing the piece of information that would reveal exactly how Nesta was using that sex in her PTSD.
From an outside standpoint, Maas was using it to show another way PTSD manifests. Feyre and Aelin both manifest as being hollow inside and completely shutting down. Some people affected by PTSD don’t have that “quiet” route, and so Maas is opening up and exploring another form.
The sexual aspect of Nesta’s PTSD is specifically to show that fundamental difference in how her trauma needs to be treated (more on that in “Nesta overall”).
Rhys and Feyre’s Responses
This section alone could be a novel, so I’m going to try and keep it fairly linear timeline-wise, but still separate Rhys and Feyre later on.
History
Think about how we’ve seen Nesta in ACOTAR and ACOMAF:
In ACOTAR, she’s a frigid, cruel bitch to her baby sister. She slut shames her, insults her, finds insults that literally make Feyre flinch and digs in harder, and does everything in her power to sabotage Feyre because Nesta is mad at their father. For years she makes Feyre’s life a living hell and even contributes to Feyre’s own psychological issues that Tamlin actually heals in TAR (props where props go).
Feyre has zero hope for life in the beginning of TAR, she even tells her father hope doesn’t exist because she genuinely believes that. It is tied almost exclusively to Nesta’s abuse or things that result from her abuse (if Nesta had helped Feyre instead, they might have been able to find a better footing in their poverty, or at least had a home Feyre didn’t dread returning to).
When she returns to the mortal lands, before venturing out to save Tamlin(’s ungrateful ass), Feyre finds a sort of peace with Nesta and starts to realize why Nesta was so horrible to her for so long. The key here is that there is no reconciliation, just a beginning step towards one.
In ACOMAF, Feyre returns from Prythian almost expecting that same quasi-peace she and Nesta found, only to find Nesta as viciously mean and cruel as she was in TAR (probably because of Cassian, but also her own prejudice against Fae and all that their presence might represent (war)).
Again, a bit of understanding is reached by the end of the book-
then Nesta and Elain are thrown into the Cauldron.
And guess how Nesta treats Feyre in WAR when she returns? Like shit. Again.
Each time the slide back to cruelty makes sense- TAR --> MAF it is the introduction of the fae element and knowing Feyre’s involvement makes the war inevitably an Archeron problem. MAF --> WAR it is the incredibly traumatic event Nesta and Elain went through, Feyre not being there to help them on the other side, and Nesta feeling as if she and Elain were abandoned to the care of near strangers after such a horrifying event (that again is always described along the same vein psychologically as being raped).
Still, even though it makes sense where she is coming from, Nesta does always return to the evil bitch role and never apologizes to Feyre (though she does come close).
Rhysand
He’s first because he’s easy.
People are harping on Rhysand for how he treats Nesta in FAS but it’s totally in line with canon. Feyre snaps at him in WAR for little offhand comments he makes against Nesta. He’s never had a particularly warm image of her.
Rhys brings out receipts for Nesta’s treatment of Feyre pre-ACOTAR, specifically sending her out to hunt in the forest. Remember what happened to Rhys’ little sister when the older sibling didn’t protect them? And she was meeting him somewhere that should have been perfectly safe, she wasn’t entering a dangerous area armed.
On top of that, he’s seen Nesta slut-shame her sister, and even from a non-Feyre side of things, Nesta has a habit of landing hard blows on his entire IC. His best friends who have helped him through horrible trauma, and she attacks them and repeatedly belittles them.
From his PoV, even if he wasn’t in love with Feyre, Nesta is just downright evil.
Feyre
Nesta is always going back-and-forth. Even Feyre cannot predict when Nesta will strike a blow (metaphorically) or when she’ll be somewhere in the vicinity of pleasant. She defends Nesta to Rhysand (in MAF, WAR, and FAS), but even so whenever Nesta opens her mouth to say something Feyre flinches or anticipates something horrible.
She doesn’t want Rhys to speak ill of her family because they are all she has left of her mortal life, and she had to literally risk her life to keep them fed for years. She couldn’t let grudges grow, because if she did she might just walk into the woods and leave them to starve. They are her family, and so she feels an obligation to protect both Nesta and Elain (more on Elain in a moment).
That doesn’t mean she isn’t affected by how she was treated, or that old wounds aren’t there. She just doesn’t want to get into it. It makes Feyre more dismissive of Nesta, but she is still trying. She’s just lost the strength to try as hard as she would for Mor or Cassian or even Elain- people who actually show her kindness and love.
Elain and the IC
Mor sees Nesta as a nasty thorn in Feyre’s side, but she knows what it is to deal with horrible family (to a much harsher degree). She supports Feyre and her stance, and that’s it. She tried making friends with Nesta and had her head bit off, so she’s not reaching out.
Amren and Azriel you all know.
Elain is where Nesta isolated herself wholly and completely.
In WAR, Nesta had Elain with her as they processed their trauma. Elain was worse off than she was, completely shut down, and so the isolation seemed like a good idea (you may remember in WAR it was not a good idea when it came to Elain, she needed to be around others regularly to open up).
After WAR though... Elain accepted Prythian. She doesn’t fully accept that things are over with Grayson, and doesn’t entirely acknowledge that she is fae, but she accepts Prythian and Velaris and Night. She accepts the world, even while ignoring her circumstance... and Nesta resents her for it.
Elain was always side-by-side with her, but as Elain settled and Nesta raged, she couldn’t count on her younger sister anymore to just be there and understand. Elain started having her own life and hobbies. She found a way to start processing her pain and deal with it. She wasn’t set back by the death of Hybern because Elain accepted that it had to happen and she was protecting her family and avenging their father.
Elain is very much the one to let go of grudges, while Nesta holds them in a vice-grip. Nesta resented Elain’s peace, and so she distances herself from even Elain, while still leaving a door open for the sister she always favored (at least for a while in FAS Elain is the one who can get Nesta to do stuff).
Cassian’s Role
From the very beginning of WAR, Cassian has known Nesta isn’t like her sisters.
He wanted Nesta to train, he taunted her over it repeatedly, trying to goad her into it. Cassian’s approach to Nesta has always been the closest to how Nesta needed to be approached. He has a fundamental understanding of her and her personality.
Cassian was once someone without a place in the world, and so he carved it out himself. He wants that for Nesta, but he also knows she has to be the one to take it. He tries to help Nesta while giving her her space, and he also seems to accept that while Vealris treats Nesta as if she’s his (brought up by Nesta herself in FAS), she is still her own person and free to be with whoever she wishes or live as she chooses.
Cassian is trapped between wanting to help Nesta as much as she will allow, and minding that line so she knows he isn’t trying to force his presence or himself on her. He is dismissed and ignored by Illyrians as a bastard and is touchy about that, but he endures dismissal when it comes from Nesta so that she knows he is always there for her.
Still, as much as he clearly loves her and cares about her, he can only take so many hits at a time before old wounds become too raw. That is why he will push more forcefully, but in the end he always leaves it to Nesta to take the final step herself.
Cassian is watching her more closely than the others, and he knows that missing piece about her sexual history. He is trying to help her as much as he is capable, but he also knows she needs something different. She needs real help, and Cassian doesn’t have any right to be the one to drag her bodily off to get the treatment she needs. He also knows she wont open up to some doctor.
I’m not doing a lot on Cassian’s stance because that’s what the next novel is going to be. Cassian honestly sees the same pain on Nesta that he had, and he knows her personality very well. She needs the fight, and she needs to feel like she’s earned and carved her own spot in the world.
She needs training as an Illyrian, a position he has always held when it comes to Nesta.
Nesta Overall
Contrary to how some tumbrs have been spinning it, the IC and Feyre never outright abandoned Nesta.
Even Nesta acknowledges at one point that the IC tried giving her jobs or pulling her along in their group to get her to engage. They tried to help her through her PTSD the same way they did for Feyre, Rhys, Mor, even Elain (given a job early on of designing the Townhouse garden). Rhys has offered her duties or positions, Feyre’s tried to help find hobbies for her, and yet Nesta is resistant to all.
As I said before, Maas is showing another form of PTSD, one that requires a completely different path of treatment. The IC try to heal Nesta the way they healed others, but she was never going to be able to walk that same path, not after what happened with the King of Hybern at least (remember, Nesta accepted the role as Ambassador to the Human Lands in WAR as she recovered from what the Cauldron did to her, then wanted nothing to do with it in FAS).
The IC didn’t abandon her, they just couldn’t understand her, and Nesta cannot express herself to show them how best to help her.
She’s always been barbed and defensive, and in this case when she needed people to gather around her all the more and see through it, they were pushed back because of her own past actions. The IC cannot help her, because she burned bridges with them time and again and they’re just done taking her punches.
Cassian sees what is happening, and he tries to reach for her- but Nesta doesn’t need him alone to make that leap. Even if she loves Cassian desperately and they are endgame mates (that’s not an ‘if’ that’s a fact), she needs to know the others care.
She needs to know that she is genuinely wanted, that her presence is appreciated and accepted with no other thought than “Nesta’s here, I’m so happy” (why Cassian reacted so strongly when Feyre made mention of the almost buyer’s bargain with Nesta coming to Solstice).
Feyre’s exhausted when it comes to her sister. Rhys and  most of the IC have no reason to reach out for her very much because of her own personality and how it hides deep rooted insecurities. Rhys in particular has dealt with horrible people his entire life and he’s not willing to keep them around that much, not if he believes there is nothing redeeming inside them.
Nesta is screaming for help in her own way, but unfortunately it’s a case where no one else speaks the language, save Cassian. And knowing Cassian understands makes Nesta feel ashamed and weak, open and judged, so she uses every weapon at her disposal to push him back.
She needs both isolation and acceptance. Nesta cannot open up enough for that, and the rest of the IC doesn’t speak that language. They aren’t wilfully ignoring it, they honestly have no idea how to process it and are frustrated by that lack of understanding.
The minute she got up and went to the dying King of Hybern, this became completely inevitable. Nesta isn’t someone who can be strengthened and forged like Feyre or even Elain- surrounded by gentle love and kindness. She needed to be shattered and re-forged, and when she is she will be stronger, more confident, and happier for it.
The next book is going to be incredible.

idk i try to keep things a-okay on here but i just really need to vent on like.
everything.
god fucking dammit don’t you just love working twice as hard as your superior only to make like, what, a few dollars an hour less? yeah, checking salary data online my assistant manager, the one that DID NOT impress the area manager or whatever the hell the boss of my boss is, is making like roughly 4$ more than me every hour to do half as good a job in.. anything. Did I fucking mention her boss saw me working with her and someone else and mentioned to the actual manager he was only impressed with me??? god she can’t even be bothered to refill coins or fucking count the safe properly but will spend all her time in the back and make everyone else take on a workload she should be taking on herself because we’re already short staffed here and still losing people but no she’s getting fucking paid more than me- who drives myself to panic attacks to try keep up with making sure things are actually moving along and that people get their food -to basically sit on her ass and become dead weight that ends with me leaving later than I should. Fuck she tells me I work too hard, move too fast, but bitch I bet it’s because you can’t get on my damn level you mid-life crisis piece of shit. You’re like. at least 40. You’ve been a teacher. Why can’t you do better than Panda Express Assistant Manager that you didn’t even actually earn from what I hear you just schmoozed to the manager at your last location and didn’t get actual training to be a manager of any sort.
I can’t figure out groceries, I don’t know how to cook nor do I have motivation to so whatever I do get ends up spoiling, so I’m wasting so much money of my already small paycheck  (30-36 hours a week on 10.50$ an hour, pay every other week with roughly 15% of that taken for taxes)  eating out and even then not giving myself any sort of proper nutrition. I don’t exercise enough either or keep up with showers and teeth brushing and laundry like a person should be so I’m fucking withering away in full out shrug emoji and getting fat and unhealthy and letting everything decay okay maybe im not that bad but I really don’t care.
I can’t afford to go back to college this semester because I’ve been paying rent to my parents (and that ridiculous 450$ a month is due to go up because they could be selling our house for more than they got it for but can’t because me and my older brother are still living here so COMPENSATION I GUESS) and paying for my car (repairs AND gas for a clunker old enough to drive itself and bare minimum insurance) and paying for food and maybe SOMETHING to live for and make me feel okay for just a moment that’s like. stupid cheap generally less than 10$ in terms of price and generally having trouble limiting myself to stricter budgeting so I can actually save up and GOD DAMN don’t get me started on how the college down the street is so fucking packed that I can’t really take any courses unless I signed up like, back in may and I still don’t even know WHY I’m going to college besides “has to” and I can’t bother to fill out FAFSA and like fuck anyone would give me a scholarship since I’m so firmly average and so many people need it more than me.
I still have to make at least 10 job applications or I’m getting 100$ added to my rent because I guess if I hate my job so much why aren’t I getting another when I have no college degree no marketable skills and have been stuck in fast food for two years and therefore have no experience in anything desireable and I don’t know myself enough to sell myself  gee I wonder why I don’t have a better job dad :)))))) I can’t even really say im bright and cheery because that is fading and fading fast because of this damn job where I have no support and constant stress.
I have so much shit in my life i need to fix up. I’m turning 21 this year, I’m getting all these messages about how I should be moved out and on my own and going to college for something I’m so incredibly passionate about and living that wonderful youth life and maybe backpack across the country or whatever.
I have no passions. Art is a distraction and a hobby and no one likes it enough to buy it for dirt cheap anyways (that lunafreya piece came out to about 21$ in my commission pricing and took me like. probably 3 or 4 hours???? which translates to 7$/hour at best and 5.25$/hour at worst???????????) I can’t even write on my rp blog, the last little bastion of any of my love for writing and I don’t fucking care enough about grammar and all that to bother with going for an english major and I don’t have any stories long enough to merit writing and publishing and what’s finished is fucking stupid and not going to get a second glance.
but guess what I keep falling back on doing all these stupid drawings and losing myself in characters and hiding all this pain behind them like that makes it okay but no everyone comes out so fucking OOC to me because I impose so much of my hurt and sadness onto them heck YMX isn’t even fucking YMX anymore I’ve latched onto him so hard to give myself some way of pitying myself without actually pitying myself. you guys can go ahead and say it I’ve fucking ruined him he’s not even an actual character anymore I’ve stripped away literally anything that merits him as a younger Xehanort. You can also say I’ve completely lost sight of who Ventus is as a character and just keep writing fucking 2006-era Roxas.
god i want help. i want help so bad but i don’t feel like i actually need it i just need to get over myself and get moving but i can’t i can barely get myself out of bed in the morning sometimes cuz I just wanna keep sleeping and fuck work and fuck doing anything give me a twelve fucking year coma please and let me wake up talented and pretty and loved and actually worth giving a damn about and if not strangle me on those stupid christmas lights I got last year in a silly attempt to be festive and later to try and give some sort of aesthetic to my kleptomaniac’s bedroom at least I’ll give my life a nice poetic send-out.
I can’t even get help anyways my parents just likely spent a fortune on my sister in hospital visits and therapy appointments because she revealed she was suicidal earlier this year (which fucking wrecked me I knew she was a mess but not that bad) and she’s so much better now and I’m so happy she is and her dog is kinda stupid and needs more walks but Matilda at least makes her happy but we can’t go through that song and dance again with me. We cant have two mental health crises in this family in one year and I most definitely cant ask for help i’ll look like an attention-seeking brat. that’s probably what I am I’m the second eldest out of five and a girl who didn’t have a mom figure I could approach for most of my life and don’t know how to approach my dad or step mother. no one will see i need help just that im looking for attention. fuck man that’s not even getting into how I’ve been in therapy before and in hindsight it feels fucking wasted whoo boy can’t wait to waste money again.
im tired.
I’m just kinda here.
I’m not even sure if I could call it surviving.

listen i track the b99 + gina linetti tag and i s2g if i see another ‘milton boyle is stupid / he’s wrecking dianetti for us all’ post i’m goNNA ?? LOSE IT ???
first of all, you dumb dumbs, gina seems really happy with him???? have you seen this girl vibe with anyone so perfectly than milton ???
don’t get me wrong, dianetti is brilliant. amazing. 11/10. li can tell you just how much we’ve talked abt our babes. but why on earth would you try and villiainise a character when he has done nothing wrong ? asdfghjkl; milton boyle is probably the second best thing to happen to her after her being with her 2nd fam, aka the squad. don’t take that away from her. let gina be happy! and sure, maybe it won’t work out, but let it at least be a thing for her to develop on ??? c’mon, everyone. this is ridiculous +  imma slap a bish!
