Bootstrap Bill's appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 was devised as a progression of six makeup stages, with his character undergoing a transformation from being encrusted to being completely engulfed in sea life. The makeups were brought to life by Joel Harlow, based on conceptual art by Crash McCreery.

Stage 1: Rum locker scene - starfish is forming under his skin.

Stage 2: Whipping scene - starfish is halfway emerged.

Stage 3: Dice game & Kraken scenes - starfish is now fully formed.

Stage 4: Dutchman brig scene - losing himself and fusing with the ship.

Stage 5 of his progression seems to have been skipped over by the filmmakers for whatever reason, as there are no scenes with Bootstrap between his stage 4 and stage 6 appearances - or at least, none with any noticeable difference.

Stage 6: Maelstrom sequence - most extreme state, completely engulfed in sea life.

The final stage was altered slightly from the original design, so it could be done with makeup.

it’s literally endlessly fucking funny to me how certifiably insane post timeskip sabo is about his brothers. he remembered who luffy and ace were and they immediately rocketed to #1 on his priority list with absolutely no contest. he devotes himself to being an older brother with the same fanatical obsession that he’s been using to lead revolutions and luffy is so used to ‘older brother’ meaning ‘guy who has attached a significant portion of his self worth and meaning in life to you’ that it fully doesn’t even register as weird to him. he manages to secretly make luffy a vivre card and luffy acts this is reasonable rational behavior!!! just normal older brother shit for them to be fully neck deep in your business without ever mentioning it!!!! cannot believe they ever managed to make us think sabo was the normal rational one. what the fuck lmao
