Everyone focused on the Jayvik true divorce arc of episode 6 but I’m still stuck on the ending of episode 5
You mean to tell me that
1) Vi and Powder are ACTUAL BLOOD RELATED SISTERS and not just found family
2) Their mom was one of the original architects/planners of Zaun with Silco and Vander
3) VANDER FUCKING NAMED VI????????
And both of the girls unknowingly ended up being cared by their mom’s best friends, which explains so much. Like, I think we all just assumed Vander just saw these orphaned children and was like “well I guess these are mine now” and same with Silco and Powder but NO THOSE ARE THEIR BEST FRIEND’S CHILDREN OF COURSE THEY STEPPED UP TO TAKE THEM IN!!! THEY ALREADY LOVED THEM
THE POWER OF LOVE BROUGHT VANDER BACK TO HIMSELF AND THE FUCKING GROUP HUG AT THE END DO YOU HEAR ME SOBBING
#also sobbing about isha but I’m not ready to talk about that yet#arcane#vi the piltover enforcer#jinx the loose cannon#vander#silco#warwick#warwick the uncaged wrath of zaun#snail scribbles

like you guys know warwick is supposed to be a metaphor, right?
and by 'you guys' I am talking to the writers of Arcane S2 (2024), who appear to have forgotten this.
like warwick, in a strictly plot sense, is something that is done to vander. but warwick, in a narrative sense, is supposed to be a metaphor. you understand that, right?
it's a metaphor for the monster within the man?
the hound of the underground?
the way suffering breeds cruelty breeds monsters - the uncaged wrath of zaun?
the sins of his past come back to haunt him?
the violence he tried to leave behind, but never could?
"i knew you still had it in you."?
Sometimes, as he fed in dark alleys on stray gangers, the flash of knives would remind him of an old blade covered in blood. Blood passing from the blade to his hands. From his hands, to everything he touched. Sometimes, he remembered the girl again. And still there was blood. It had always been there, he realized, his entire life, and nothing he did could wash it off. He'd left so many scars that even if he didn't remember his past, the city would. When he peered into the eyes of Zaun's criminals - the gang bosses, murderers, and thieves - he saw himself.
that's the warwick we should have gotten in S2. vander the grey, not vander the unproblematically whitewashed. vander the revolutionary who brought his gauntlets to that bridge to fight for a future; the base violence necessary for change. vander with blood on his hands, just as much as the partner he scapegoated for it; tried to bury in the pilt along with his own guilt; not just vander who felt aw shucks real sorry about the attempted murder that one time. vander the complex. vander who sold out zaun's resistance to ease his own shame. vander the reckoning with his own complicity; his own violence; his own original sin. vander whose murkiness helps vi unpack her black and white worldview, and let go of the rose-tinted past to which she clings; understand jinx, even understand silco; understand that it's not just about Individual Bad People doing Individual Bad Things to Individual Good People, and Individual Good People who have to defeat the Individual Bad People, but that this is something far bigger and far older than any of them, a whole rotten system of misery and oppression that turns people into monsters. that the thing that turned vander into a monster, METAPHORICALLY, happened long before he met singed.
vander the monster, as well as vander the man.
instead, we got whatever this shit is:
#arcane#arcane critical#vander#warwick#LET VANDER BE FUCKED UP AGAIN#BRING BACK MY MORALLY COMPROMISED BEAR WITH AN UNDERCURRENT OF VIOLENCE STILL RUNNING BENEATH THE SURFACE#HAUNTED BY THE SINS OF HIS OWN PAST#THE BLOOD ON HIS OWN HANDS#how did the writers forget what made vander such a good character in S1#(spoiler: it's because they need to jettison any lingering notion that active resistance is valid)#(and double down on the idea that u just gotta FORGIVE! u just gotta walk away. u just gotta get out of that oppression MINDSET u guys!)

“It’s time to let the monster out”
Lots of people have been including Warwick in their lists of useless plot points from Season 2 and it frustrates me so much because he didn’t have to be.
On a plot level Warwick would be the embodiment of Vander’s dark past and his ruthlessness. He’s not allowed to forget it and neither is Zaun. He’s turned into a force that wipes out the things that threaten Zaun whether they come from within or outside the city. Having him lurk around as the enforcers crack down on Zaun post council attack. Some of them go missing because he takes them out and they just send more to replace them with an even harsher attitude.
In the lore he goes after chembarrons and problematic gangsters. There’s already tension brewing in the power vacuum of Silco’s death, what if members turn up brutally murdered and no one knows who is responsible? More shit for Sevika or Firelights to contend with.
Then for character. You’re telling me that in however long it took to develop Season 2 not one of the writers thought that Warwick would be a good opportunity to explore Vi’s trauma? To have her be the sister haunted by the past? Have Jinx understand and they begin to understand how much has been torn apart between them because of and after their father’s influences.
Vi could have been cornered, physically or metaphorically with a twisted reflection. Confronting her with her mistakes and how Vander influenced her, how he would see her now. A necromancy horror, the darkest pieces personified, just like how Vi views Jinx
She says everyone in her life has changed, wouldn’t it be delicious to have Vander change is such a way and then reflect her own mistakes back at her? He bent the knee to try and make peace and look how it turned out, for both of them. Vi surrounding herself in violence because it’s what she’s good at, it’s what she still has value for and Vander has so other choice. It’s the dark side of what he taught her, what he didn’t want her to pick up on, what he didn’t want her to take on. But when all of his “protect the family” and “it’s on you” doesn’t serve Vi, doesn’t protect anyone anymore the violence is where she goes.
The girls were set up to becomes their fathers, for better and worse. And it would make or break Zaun and their sisterhood.
Thematically Warwick made so much sense exactly how he was in league. Like it was right there, it’s how he was in the game, ready made and they didn’t take the opportunity. It wouldn’t downplay Vander’s death if he was truly gone with only glimpses of humanity, a zombified version of Vander’s violent past.
He’s literally called the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun be serious, you wanted to make him a puppy at the sight of Jinx? Him having a momentary slip and letting the girls go or going easy on them amidst all his violence would have been so much more impactful.
So yeah, not useless but definitely was under-utilized.
#arcane critical#arcane season 2#arcane#warwick#vander#vi arcane#jinx arcane#this was one of the biggest fumbles to me#it was all right there and they didn’t even do something different it was just a nothing plot point#I couldn’t wait to see how he was used especially with Vi and it was disappointing#also slightly nitpicking but I miss his wolf snout

Arcane improved a lot of things when adapting League of Legends, but everything about Warwick is done much better in LoL. Comparing all the cinematics, in-game voice lines and lore, to what was done with him in Arcane; it's quite a let down IMO.
Instead of "The Uncaged Wrath of Zaun" and a man who was forcefully turned into an uncontrollable monster and is now haunted by a past he can't remember, we got... Wholesome family reunion, followed by him going feral and another character sacrificing herself to kill him, then him getting revived again just for the purpose of having Jinx and Vi fight something. I feel like this entire plot line was useless, barely anything was done with it. After ACT 2, it gets completly side-lined for the final battle.
#the design probably is least of the problems with this storyline but i hate it too#never wanted to make a critical post for arcane but i had to say this#vander#warwick#arcane critical#arcane criticism#criticism#i did not like the second act can you tell

Arcane season 2!
Just watched Act 3 and I’m not ready to say goodbye after all that happened…
(Spoilers under the cut)
Hextech really was the problem all along. Ep 7’s alternative timeline is proof of that. Without it, both Zaun and Piltover would be at peace…
Mylo, Claggor, Vander, Silco, Benzo, they’re all alive and Powder never turned into Jinx in that timeline. The only bad thing there is Vi’s dead. What could’ve been…
Jayce’s actions make sense now, goes to show that you shouldn’t rush to judgement before you know the whole story.
TimeBomb kiss! TimeBomb kiss! I ship them so much!!! 🤩🤩🤩
Heimerdinger is no more. But at least he lived a life of peace in another universe… Rest in peace, Professor.
Mel’s fully embraced her mage status, her magic looks amazing, and her new look! She’d make a good in-game champion…
Viktor’s fully embraced the glorious evolution now, and turned his followers mechanical. Low key kinda scary though… his new look must be the rework Riot was talking about for his in-game self!
Warwick NOOOOOO! 😭😭😭 Vander is gone, only the beast remains, with a mechanical twist… RIP Uncaged Wrath of Zaun.
Ambessa really was the villain all along, even if her intentions were misguided. She truly deserved a warrior’s death…
They did it! CaitVi did the deed! I’m so happy for them! They truly belong together, far from being oil and water… ❤️❤️❤️
Jinx took Isha’s death hard. Someone give her a hug… 🫂
We lost some good people in the war, Loris, that Jinxer. But it was worth it now that the good guys won…
Zaun entered the fight in a truly epic fashion! The twin cities are united! 🎉🎉🎉
The Boy Saviour did what he meant to do! He shattered time and saved the day! Ekko FTW!
The mage that saved Mrs Talis was Viktor?! It all makes sense, he traveled across timelines giving young Jayce a crystal with a different rune to save the future, and only one was successful. MIND. BLOWN. 🤯🤯🤯
What happened to Jayce and Viktor? They used the crystal, but at what cost? Maybe we’ll never know… also, they hugged! He truly has forgiven him…
JINX NO!!!! She sacrificed herself to save her sister from Warwick! Guess Isha won’t be lonely up there… RIP Loose Cannon… 😭😭😭😭
CaitVi got their happy ending. But what’s next for them? Fanfic writers, you know what to do…
Maddie betrayed Piltover?! Guess all the hate was rightfully placed, especially now that she’s dead…
Swain? What’s your crow doing here?! Watching Noxus retreat? I don’t trust you…
This show was amazing and it ended on a truly epic note. I’m really gonna miss it. Thank you, Riot and Fortiche for giving us a story we’ll never forget…

The Uncaged Wrath of Zaun
As a Warwick main, I was sorely disappointed in his Arcane design. I understand the changes were likely to contrast the man vs. the beast and to keep some semblance of Vander. Still, I really missed his fully-furred, toothy-muzzle and ears.
They totally got his frenetic savagery down, though—I'll give them that! (I also definitely cried just a little bit at the reunion scene. Just a little... weh.)

is it a hot take to say that in a season two where they didn't use warwick solely as a plot device to get the sisters back together and didn't kill him TWICE for no reason I think sevika should've been murdered by him at some point? I don't feel like elaborating but fellow knowers of warwick lore do you see my vision? do you understand my desire to see the uncaged wrath of zaun be the uncaged wrath of zaun?
#sevika living through ALL of season one and getting the nation of zaun so long as she gave piltover jinx#only to die before getting to see it? checks out#arcane#sevika arcane#warwick#arcane critical#not really but it probably would be if I had the energy to write an essay about this lmao#mine

If Arcane Had An Arkham Knight Styled Evidence Room.
Maddie Nolen
"One beret, grenade launcher, and Enforcer rifle. All belonging to Maddie Nolen. Maddie was a Noxian spy that infiltrated the Enforcers and a good one at that. That is until she was killed by Mel Medarda. I don't feel sorry for her but I do feel sorry for her younger brother who she was raising till she left. No one hasn't heard from him but I did hear rumors that Caitlyn took him under his wing. I know he'll appreciate her kindness." (Just a head canon of mine.)
Ambessa Medarda
"One Noxian war mask, two drake hounds, some magic rune thing and a spear belonging to Ambessa Medarda. I've fought thugs and crooks but Ambessa Medarda? Bitch had an entire army at her beckoned call. We were lucky we survived that. She was this close to taking the hex gate till Mel took her out. Guess who's the wolf now?"
Jinx
"One destroyed mini-gun, one monkey bomb, and one stuffed bunny toy belonging to Jinx formerly known as Powder. She was an absolute menace to Piltover and was the mastermind that blew up the council. Former assassin of Silco too. I hate to say it but I owe Jinx my life after that save there. Don't know why she did it. Maybe someone talked some sense into her or she was bored. Jinx sacrificed her life to save Vi from some monster made by Singed. I tried to look into this case more but I had to investigate a missing airship."
Warwick
"Two...big ass metal claws and destroyed canister belonging to the Uncaged Wrath Of Zaun, Warwick, the new boogeyman. Thing was made in Singed's lab who's belongings turned by the people of Zaun. Name unknown but I heard rumors he was made from the corpse of someone. The body of a local hero named Vander. Warwick was one of Viktor's thralls attacking the hex gates and seemingly perished in an explosion. Next thing you know, he came back different and began terrorizing the criminals of Zaun. Someone asked him about the new look and he said he went somewhere. He's currently locked up in Stillwater after being caught by Vi who looked at him with a sad expression on her face. All in all, he's not a good boy."
Singed.
"This...this is the stuff of nightmares. All of these belonging to Singed. Guy went mad after his daughter and began a series of messed up experiments to bring her back. He disappeared after the war ended. No knows where he went since then. Hate that he got away with this shit."
Ekko
"One sword thing made from the piece of the clocktower and a hoverboard of some kind which all belong to the Boy Savior-Ekko. Don't know much about him but I heard great things like leading a resistance group against Silco and he's proven it with that save of his against Viktor. Recently, him, Steb, Vi and Caitlyn took down Warwick. Ekko was dodging everything that mangy mutt hit at him. God damn."
Silco
"One cigar and a shimmer injector that belonged to Silco. I'm glad Vi and Caitlyn took down that rat bastard. He flooded Zaun with shimmer and ruined the entire community. I heard he got thrown into the waters like trash. Good."
Viktor
"One blanket and a staff belonging to Viktor. He used to be a friend of Jayce until he left and started a psycho cult. After that, he made a deal with Ambessa and tried to kill everyone by turning them into metal creatures! Jayce Tallis stopped him at the cost his life but it did take out that freak of nature. If I were Jayce, I would've made nice and slow. Glorious evolution my ass."
Jayce Talis
"One destroyed hex tech hammer belonging to Piltover's golden boy, Jayce Talis. Jayce had his own flaws but he gave his life saving all of Piltover. We couldn't have done it without him. Rest well."

The Pros and Cons of killing Warwick

Let me start off with:
Why I personally don't care for it
I think it's silly that a character defined by his healing factor dies. I like the spooky idea of a scary mindless Warwick roaming the streets and caves of Zaun. Vander losing his humanity and memories seems like a dark, ironic and tragic ending enough. Because we already saw him die in season 1, have him as a potential cliffhanger death in s2act2, to have him gave another "this time for realsies" death seems more like diminishing returns to me rather than "zomg, the parallels and the symmetry". To me it sounds kinda tacky.
I also feel like season 2 didn't really succeed that much in establishing Vander as his own character as opposed to just an accessory for Jinx and Vi (ie the point of his flashback is just to double down his long and deep his parental relationship with them runs), which to me takes away some of the heft of his death.
The reasons why it seems likely
Warwick isn't one of the main pretty people characters the way Caitlyn, Vi, Jinx, Jayce and Viktor are. (From a pure business POV we know that monster champions are less popular and sell fewer skins) That alone makes him a more likely candidate.
Symmetry, parallels and themes
The show arguably kicked into "omg, this is serious" gear when Vander died. And season 1 ended on Silco's death, another father figure. So one can argue that Warwick dying is a parallel to that.
There is also the persistent theme in Arcane that maybe keeping people alive after their death isn't great (ie Singed/Orianna, Viktor telling Jayce he was supposed to die) and that you need to let go of the past.
Another aspect is that Vander's story is about becoming a monster and that Vander tried to resist violence (while Silco embraced it). So one can assume that Vander hates what he has become.
Vander is also defined heavily by his status as a parent so him sacrificing himself to protect Jinx or Vi seems fitting (sacrifice being another theme in s2).
There's also the aspect of what he represents in Vi and Jinx's story. That maybe they have to overcome him or as they become adults and become self reliant it's okay for him to leave the story. Or that he has "done his job" by bringing the sisters together.
The symbolism of it all
One thing that likely isn't intended, but, if we presume that Vi will join Caitlyn in Piltover (rather than Cait moving to Zaun or both staying on their side and meeting in the middle, of I can't overlook the symbolism that the Wrath of Zaun has to be distinguished for that to happen.
Or that both leaders of the original revolution die, maybe coinciding with Piltover and Zaun forming an alliance.
Remember, in League Warwick is called the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun. So maybe the characters have to symbolically overcome Zaun's anger for the sake of a better tomorrow.
However
I know there likely just isn't airtime left in the remaining episodes, but you know what would imo would be an efficient way to make Vander's death more resonant? Give us a flashback between young Silco and Vander where they discuss strategy for example for the battle on the bridge and Vander says no, he doesn't want to turn into a monster. Driving home the tragedy of when he gets turned into a monster that has to be put down.

Some of the Game References I caught in Season 2 Act 1 of Arcane
*i'm just one lore obsessed idiot that watched this at like 3 am sorta half asleep. if there's any I missed, please put it in the comments/tags/reblogs*
the hat this kid's wearing is a reference to the champion, Teemo and the organization he's a part of: The Bandle Scouts
Viktor's more mechanical body and voice could be a reference to how he made his body completely mechanical.
His little group that he leads could also be a reference to game!viktor's love of "glorious evolution"
The Black Rose is an organization based in Noxus that are known to scheme in the shadows, guide the Noxian thrown, and furthers the interest of its noble members with magic
The "wispy wind woman" Jinx talks about is the champion known as Janna. She was thought of as a goddess/wind spirit that helps and protects the people of Zaun
During the Sevika stage of the Vi and Caitlyn vs Jinx and Sevika fight, "Get Jinxed" played. This song released with Jinx in 2013. It's a bop and a half.
youtube
There he is. The long awaited doggie himself. Warwick, the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun, was I think one of the original champions in 2009. I can't wait to see more of him this season.

i submitted something but i don't think it ever got posted and think Tumblr might have eaten the ask (i sent it last month I think)
it was ‘would Vander from Arcane listen to Warwick's theme?’
‧₊˚🖇️✩ ₊˚🎧⊹♡ hi caller! yeah, i think tumblr ate your ask. since I couldn't find a song called "Warwick's theme," i'm assuming you mean "Warwick, the Uncaged Wrath of Zaun?" - mod Cupid

have this inkling that she's going to be used as a way to make Warwick look scary.
The guy she betrayed becomes Warwick and demolishes her when Vi struggled to put her down each fight. Would be a great way to make him look strong as heck.
Warwick's title is the, Uncaged Wrath of Zaun. The lanes like sevika wanted Vander to unleash his wrath upon their enemies, but he didn't.( which led to sevikas betrayal because he “ was weak” / ) Knowing that it would lead to more violence. If Warwick is Vander, then it's going to he such poetic justice. A reference to the old saying, be careful what you wish for. Now, Warwick terrorizes Zaun because his wrath is now uncaged.
I mean warwick had a line that went I ran these streets (zaun) - now it's your turn to run
vander was the leader of zaun)so I can imagine him saying this to sevika I ran these streets now its your turn to run
Yeah, Sevika will probably be used to introduce the danger that Warwick really is, as well as that poetic justice you said... But I'll be going against common sense so I can root for her survival.
I hadn't connected the part about the Lanes wanting Vander to unleash his anger with his title 'the uncaged wrath of Zaun", but that makes a lot of sense! Warwick really has a lot of lines that connects with this, too. I mean, "It takes a monster to gut one" literally means he'll use violence to fight violence (something he didn't as old Vander)
Plus, if I'm remembering correctly, he also says something about betrayers and vengeance after he revives "One thing you should know: I honour my debts" (Sevika) and the "I remember what you did!" that can be applied to both Singed and Sevika.
Also, if they're going to follow Warwick's written lore, he'll only start acting more like a human after quite some time... So Sevika will definitely fight him as the fully bloodlusting beast.
