                    it’s been almost two weeks of pouting by herself, playing with her food, and pretending to be unaffected by the idea of ally in HER seat. ( she’s very affected by it, actually. ) unfortunately, there’s only so many times a princess can ignore lunch altogether and slink off to the gym for a few rounds with a punching bag she’s pasted a picture of chad onto. at some point she’ll have to face the reality that A.) no one is exactly scrambling to get her back to the COOL ROYALS TABLE and B.) even worse, remi was right while she was frustratingly wrong. add that to the fact that she also really, really, really misses him, and she’s actually doing it. sunny florian, crown princess of charmington, is going to apologize. eventually.

                    “ hi, um. can i sit with you?” fiddling with her tray, she doesn’t actually wait for a response from remi to sit across from him. “ i------ how are you? cool. cool. cool. um. so i’m going to guess you noticed they kicked me out, huh?”

                              “ do you------ no. it’s stupid. ” but since when has sunny been able to keep her lips sealed when she needs an answer? still, she fiddles with the sleeve of her oversized hoodie and doesn’t quite look at her brother. “ do you think we’re as good as mamá and papá? like, INSIDE? like am i a heroine material or whatever? ”

                    “ just because i said the same thing to chad last week doesn’t mean it isn’t true. ” and audrey the week before that. but she’s right. she is, even if she knows she’s being just a bit ridiculous. a giggle passes lips as red as her mother’s as she tilts her cheek into his hand, and smiles brighter at the soft peck. her own fingers rise up to tilt down his chin, assure he’s looking at her and really listening. “ you’re GOOD, ben, and you’re going to have a love story just like all those ones my papa read to me before bed, ya know? ”

                    “ ok so ! ” sunny begins without any further greeting, linking arms with florence, and practically skipping beside her. “ there’s going to be a super SICK party in sherwood forest tonight, like live band and everyone who’s anyone is going ! you want to come with me? ” her grin is the epitome of eager, puppy dog eyes ready to be used if necessary, even. “ i know it’s kind of far away, but it’ll be so much fun ! we can get ready together and i already made a playlist for the drive ! please, flo ! ”

                    it’s practically become routine by now, time that ought to be spent studying instead spent at li’s practices ( and time that ought to have been spent coaching being chipped away at by her attempts to steal away his attention ), but catching the coach off guard, lacing her fingers with his as he walked into the gym? not so routine. “ ok, so this CRAZY thing happened. ” notice that she says happened, deflects the blame with a charming grin. “ so i was talking to some friends after the cotillion, and they were like “ oh em gee you and li are so cute together ’ which, i mean, after our dance? we were couple goals. not that we’re a couple, obvi, but here’s the thing------ it might have been implied that we were and there’s this really cute guy who i want to make jealous.” 

                    the boy in question just so happened to be li himself. and it had been so nice at the cotillion, getting to indulge in all of the couple-y things she’d always wanted to with the same off-limits friend’s hot older brother she’d been crushing on for years. could anyone really blame her for wanting to continue the charade? “ so PLEASE be my fake boyfriend? i’ll make it up to you, i swear ! ”

                    even with the pout still stiff on her lips, sunny leans into her mother’s touch without a second thought. it’s a petty problem, all of the young princess’s are ( it’s a charmed life she leads, partially because she shies away from anything more serious ), but right now it feels HUGE. “ it’s just------ mama, i’m scared. everything’s changing. ” while she doesn’t look at snow, she does shift closer to her, resting her head against her mother’s shoulder. “ audrey and ben broke up. chad’s------ he’s been awful. it’s like i don’t even know my friends anymore. where i fit in at ap anymore. ”

                    “ never ! ” sunny grins, practically luminescent with her glee at the rose just dusting her best friend’s cheeks. making ava blush was a gift in itself, and the charming princess was so EAGER to know more, dig deeper, find out just who had made the girl with hair like a sunrise so flustered, so effervescent with what she KNEW could only be young love. tourney-roughened fingers reach for softer ones, tugging ava closer and holding her hands tightly in her own. “ you so have a crush on him, sirena ! i know you, and i know when you’re being extra sweet. but you’re right, that might be a little much. more like twelve of his babies ! ” a soft giggle bubbles past poppy lips, and she fixes ava with a knowing look. “ my mom is the fairest, i’m, like, the epitome of fair, and you looooove him ! so tell me all about it ! please don’t make me beg, because you know i will, a. ”

                    “ mama, it’s only an hour flight. ” still, there are tears catching at her lashes and she hasn’t let go of her mother’s hand the entire tour of auradon prep. she may be beyond excited to start high school the next week ( and boarding school on top of that ! ), but it is a big step. the florians have NEVER not been together. she doesn’t quite know what she’ll do without them. “ charmington academy is so small. ap’s the right choice, for sure ! and you can visit ! we can have cute little mommy-daughter dates like when i was little ! ”
