New System Blog

Hello! We're the Iron Woods Collective. We're a small system consisting of a host and three fictive alters. We only just accepted that we are a system in the last couple of months. As such, we're still doing a lot of learning. We are most likely traumagenic, although we suspect there may be some other influences at play in combination with trauma. We do now know who all of the alters are, so that's progress from where we were a month ago. We're keeping this blog as a way to sort of record that progress.

There are four of us who will post here, some more frequently than others, in all likelihood. So we'd like to give you a rundown of who's here and how we'll differentiate who's speaking. Tumblr doesn't make that particularly easy, so we'll be using emojis. So these are the system members. The first up is Rowan. Rowan is the host. They're genderqueer/genderfluid and use they/them or xe/xir pronouns. They are also alterhuman. Rowan will distinguish their posts by putting the 📗 emoji in the title and/or at the very beginning of the post. Next is Firekeeper. Firekeeper is a fictive and identifies as female and therefore uses she/her pronouns. She identifies more as a wolf than a woman. She is the system guardian and she and her brother, Blind Seer, work together to protect the system. Firekeeper will distinguish her posts by putting the 🔥 emoji in the title and/or at the beginning of the post. Which brings us to Blind Seer. Blind Seer is also a fictive and identifies as male, so he uses he/him pronouns. Blind Seer is the system caretaker. He makes sure the body is looked after. Firekeeper is his sister and together they make sure the system is protected from both internal and external threats. Unlike his sister, who is physically human, Blind Seer is a wolf in all senses. He will distinguish his posts by putting the 🐺 emoji in the title and/or at the beginning of the post. And the last member is Angel Dust. Like the other two, he is a fictive. Unlike the rest of the system, he is not a wolf. Angel is the first responder. He helps get the system through crises and helps with day to day things. Angel will distinguish his posts by putting the 💎 emoji in the title and/or at the beginning of the post.

If you're curious about the sources of the fictive system members, they are from media Rowan has a strong attachment to. The Firekeeper Saga novels, Firekeeper's and Blind Seer's source, is a book series about a woman raised by wolves learning to navigate the human world with her brother by her side. Rowan came across the series when they were still coming to terms with their alterhumanity and it continues to be a comfort nearly a decade and a half later. As to Angel Dust, he comes from Hazbin Hotel, a cartoon intended for adults and set in a very colorful imagining of Hell. The show and its spinoff have been one of Rowan's hyperfixations for nearly a year now. We feel this is a pretty good place to stop. We'll try to all introduce ourselves over the next few days. Hot New Planetary System Just Dropped.

A new system of seven sizzling planets has been discovered using data from our retired Kepler space telescope.

Named Kepler-385, it’s part of a new catalog of planet candidates and multi-planet systems discovered using Kepler.

The discovery helps illustrate that multi-planetary systems have more circular orbits around the host star than systems with only one or two planets.

Our Kepler mission is responsible for the discovery of the most known exoplanets to date. The space telescope’s observations ended in 2018, but its data continues to paint a more detailed picture of our galaxy today.

Here are a few more things to know about Kepler-385:

All seven planets are between the size of Earth and Neptune.

Its star is 10% larger and 5% hotter than our Sun.

This system is one of over 700 that Kepler’s data has revealed.

The planets’ orbits have been represented in sound.

UZI

Uzi is a 21 year old woman with an undergraduate in medical engineering, which she was coaxed into by her parents (Namely Khan). She is incredibly adept and smart and prefers the technicalities of weapons engineering, and majors in art on the side. She would like to do it full time, however her parents insist it’s not a “real job.” She volunteers at the local hospital N, V and J are relocated to from overseas so they can continue inpatient care until they are stable enough to be discharged and resume physio / psychotherapy as outpatients. She meets N during his time there and immediately clicks with him, and eventually begins to visit him on her off hours, and continues to visit him even after her contract ends. They end up establishing a relationship together and, after finding it is much less expensive commuting to school, moves in with N, V, J, Cyn and Tessa in their apartment for the semester.

She spent most of her childhood moving around and being bullied—the most significant moment having been when her first kiss was stolen by someone who only dated her because he was dared to.

Uzi is a big fan of all things anime, edgy humor, hot topic, and nightcore. she’s got the soul of an unabashed 2000s emo girl stuck in the modern day.

N

Private first class Nate (all his friends call him N) Is a 23 year old man who was fostered from a family in Utah alongside his sister Cyn under Tessa, another childhood friend, and the Elliot family in Melbourne Australia from the ages of 8-18. When of applicable age, he went back to the United States to enlist in the marines and live with Cyn, a former child prodigy who was scouted and given multiple scholarships due to record breaking academics and reflexes on simulator games.

He was severely traumatized during his first deployment overseas along with his other childhood friends, V, and J, after their humvee hit an IED during a routine supply run. All three were critically injured and the sole survivors of their team of 6. He, along with J and V spent a total of 12 hours alone in the desert before they were airlifted to an emergency hospital in germany, then, once stabilized, returned to the states to resume inpatient care in Salem, Oregon.

Despite his honorable discharge and severe ptsd diagnosis, N does his best to remain upbeat and positive, almost to a fault, oftentimes repressing “bad” thoughts or feelings.

He ends up meeting Uzi in the hospital and they form a relationship together, her eventually moving in and living with V, J, Him, Tessa, and Cyn in their flat after they’re discharged from the hospital.

J

Sergeant Jane (Only preferring J when around close friends) is a 26 year old trans woman who was fostered from an immigrant afghan family under Tessa, another childhood friend, and the Elliot family in Melbourne Australia from the ages of 4-18, having realized she was a woman very early in life. She began socially transitioning at 12, and began HRT as soon as she aged out of the system. She was the first to be involved with the Elliots and was pushed to enlist in the australian military, quickly moving up the ranks to sergeant and was eventually posted in the united states to assist in training other cadets. She was severely traumatized during her second deployment overseas along with her other childhood friends, V, and N after their humvee hit an IED during a routine supply run. All three were critically injured and the sole survivors of their team of 6. she, along with J and V spent a total of 12 hours alone in the desert before they were airlifted to an emergency hospital in germany, then, once stabilized, returned to the states to resume inpatient care in Salem, Oregon.

Having been their squad leader, J often blames herself for the incident, even if she doesn’t talk about it or say anything out loud. J is an ass kisser. She will do anything and everything to succeed and has a Holier Than Thou personality, often very uptight and not about any bullshit. Her relationship with N specifically is horrible, and she harbours lots of jealousy and resentment from their time growing up due to favoritism.

She has a long standing, massive crush on Tessa Elliot, her longtime confidant and friend, though it went unrequited for their entire childhood and into their early adult life, J often being subject to Tessa’s dating endeavours and crushes in the meantime.

V

Lance Corporal Victoria, (Who prefers to go by V present day) 4-18 who was fostered from a family in Vermont under Tessa, another childhood friend, and the Elliot family in Melbourne Australia from the ages of 8-18. She enlisted in the military alongside J and eventually N, and was transferred to the states to assist in training procedures for new cadets with J.

She was decommissioned during her second deployment overseas along with N and J after their humvee hit an IED during a routine supply run. All three were critically injured and the sole survivors of their team of 6. She took the brunt of the blast, sustaining the most severe wounds and was airlifted to an emergency hospital in germany, then, once stabilized, returned to the states to resume inpatient care in Salem, Oregon.

The doctors operating on her told her she would never walk again--V proved that wrong by walking the next week. It was a miracle—however V simply states it was due to “having that dog in her.”

She is very resilient, but is often grumpy with a dry sense of tone and humor. She used to have feelings for N when they were kids, but it's since faded as they grew and disappeared during their time in active duty. Though despite this, she still cares for him as a friend, even if she rarely shows it.

She is the first to be discharged, having been set up in an apartment downtown by Tessa, who lives with her and eventually is joined by N, J, Cyn, and eventually Uzi. She is a gym rat with a heavy workout regimen that she will make everyone else's problem if its interrupted.

CYN

Cynthia (Who ONLY goes by Cyn present day) is N's little sister. She is still in active duty in the military air-force. She was a child savant who graduated highschool at 14 and college at 18, moving on to become one of the best UAV operators in history, with successful missions reaching into the hundreds. Cyn is autistic and physically disabled, having been born with cerebral palsy, and uses forearm crutches as mobility aids--but make no mistake, she is incredibly intuitive and adept. often knock-kneed and walks with an awkward gate, and speaks with very ‘robotic’ mannerisms. She sometimes struggles to show empathy in a ‘socially normal way’ or have a conversational filter. She has a very dark sense of humor as well, that for those not used to her may find jarring or off putting. Cyn hates being referred to as a child or incompetent because of her appearance or her disability, she will even go to an extent to prove the point that she does not need assistance. Tends to be protective of N, to a lesser but still protective of V and J and much later down the line Uzi becomes a close friend of hers.

In her off time she enjoys painting warhammer figurines, collecting cards and playing video games. She has a very kitsch, macabre sense of interest, often owning eclectic, odd knick knacks and memorabilia, namely a taxidermied wombat she’s affectionately named “Suzie.”

TESSA

Dr Tessa James Elliot is a very talented surgeon working out of a public hospital in Brisbane, Australia, descending from a very rich family. She is N, V and J’s childhood friend and frequently travels to different parts of the world to assist in surgeries or specialist care. Tessa paused all of her work when she learned of their incident overseas, flying to America to personally attend to their care–with some bribery and finagling due to HIPPA not allowing biased treatment. She just cares too much to not do anything. Tessa is a joyful, social butterfly. Excellent bedside manner and a good sense of humor but sometimes comes off as socially awkward. She is J’s lifelong crush despite not being aware of it, having spent some time dating around but nobody ever seems to be the right fit. She often complains about her recent dating endeavors to J much to her chagrin.

Tessa is, for the lack of a better word, weird. Think Cyn with a little more charisma, often not having a conversational filter or saying things out of the blue. She is not disturbed by otherwise off putting things like death, bodily fluids, nudity, gore etc, and has a bit of a dark sense of humor that she portrays very upbeat and positively. She is incredibly smart and adept bookwise, however socially she comes up a bit short.

Utilities Mod Update (6/10/24) - Heating and Cooling System & Temperature Utilities ⛄🔥

Sims are now affected by outdoor temperatures indoors, and are at risk of overheating or freezing if their temperature swings to either extreme. 

Thermostats, Radiators, and/or Air Conditioners are now required inside a sim’s home to help regulate their temperature.

Requirements

This mod requires The Sims 3: Seasons.

To activate the new system, place down one of the three temperature utilities and use the “Enable Temperature Utility” interaction. Once enabled, you can then turn on the temperature utility to control your lot’s temperature.

These temperature changes will only affect sims in your household on your active home lot. No need to worry about unplayed households or sims on community lots freezing or spontaneously combusting!

Thermostats, Radiators, & Air Conditioner Utilities

There are three different types of temperature utilities to choose from to control your lot’s temperature, depending on the climate of your current world and the size of your lot. 

Thermostats are good for climates that have both hot and cold seasons, as they have heating and air conditioning, and are cost effective for residential lots with more than two or three rooms.

Radiators and Air Conditioners are better for climates that have either cold or hot seasons, but not both. They’re also more cost effective for apartments or starter homes with a few rooms, as they cost less per hour of what a thermostat does.

Thermostat: Provides either heat or air conditioning when turned on, covers the entire house, costs §2 per hour, gives the Toasty and Keeping Cool custom moodlets

Radiator: Provides heat when turned on, only covers the room it is located in, costs §1 every 2 hours, gives the Toasty custom moodlet

Air Conditioner: Provides air conditioning when turned on, only covers the room it is located in, costs §1 every 2 hours, gives the Keeping Cool custom moodlet

There are three thermostats, four radiators, and two air conditioners included with the mod. Some of the meshes are from Around The Sims 3 and the others were converted from The Sims 2 and The Sims 4 by me.

Temperature Utilities Usage

Temperature utilities can be turned on for different lengths of time: 6 hours, 12 hours, 18 hours, or 24 hours and will automatically switch off when the time is up.

Radiators and Air Conditioners have “Turn All On/Turn All Off” interactions to switch on or off all radiators or all air conditioners on the lot at once.

The usage cost of these utilities will be added to your household’s next bill.

If you want to opt out of the heating and cooling system, use the “Disable Temperature Utility” interaction available on one of the three temperature utilities.

Pay attention to the weather forecast temperatures to determine when your household needs to turn on their heating or air conditioning, and remember to turn them off when the weather is fine to save money!

Note: Temperature utilities will not be shut off due to lack of funds, bill delinquency, or outages.

New Moodlets

Keeping Cool: Given when air conditioning is on, lasts until sim leaves the room (air conditioner) or house (thermostat), +5 mood, removes the Pleasantly Warm, Getting Warm, Starting to Sweat, and Sweating Profusely moodlets

Toasty: Given when heat is on, lasts until sim leaves the room (radiator) or house (thermostat), +5 mood, removes the Pleasantly Chilly, Getting Chilly, Starting to Shiver, and Teeth Chattering moodlets

Master Controls

Every utility now has four new interactions: “Turn On All Utilities”, “Turn Off All Utilities”, “Enable All Utilities”, and “Disable All Utilities” under a new pie menu interaction called “Master Controls…”. These interactions turn on/off and enable/disable every utility on the active home lot at one time.

If you want to turn another object into a utility, open your desired object in s3pe and replace the current script name with the following:

You can't breathe.

Maybe it's the innate delirium that comes with the hellish hours of the night, or maybe you've just finally lost it, but you've been laughing at the image displayed on the blinding light of your phone screen for half an hour.

Your face hurts from all the smiling, and you've begun to muffle your wheezes into your flattened pillow, completely gone.

The image in question?

It's a soggy, completely drenched, black cat. Cute animals always pop up on your feed, yes, but this is different! You're entrenched in hysterics because this kitty resembles someone you know to an almost uncanny degree.

Underneath the picture, the caption of the post reads:

Without hesitating any longer, you almost choke on another giggle, swiping your thumb down to add your very correct answer to the pile of suggestions below.

Satisfied with this, you wipe a nonexistent tear from your eye. You miss your boyfriend dearly, so perhaps you're just seeing him everywhere - but this photo has truly done you in. The kitty also has wide eyes stained river teal, ringed with softer gray patches of fur that resemble the shape of Dan Heng's eyeliner.

...also, he does look as pathetic as the cat and question after a shower. Too bad you won't be seeing him for at least another week; the Astral Express is fickle when it comes to the timing of certain emergency trailblazing expeditions.

Your laughter subsides, and then you're left with an emptiness in your heart.

Both of you try to message everyday, but he is somewhat of (and you say this with love) a dry texter. It's not comparable at all to what it's like spending time with him in person, and he knows that very well. You shift and wiggle back under the covers, assuming snorkmimi position.

Maybe he's thinking about you too. Hopefully. Your phone burns with radiation and low battery from putting off sleep all night, but you decide to delay it just a bit longer. You traverse your windows until you find the neglected messages app, no unreads, as predicted.

But you do almost shoot up in bed when you see the little green bubble in the corner of Dan Heng's icon, signaling that he's online. System time doesn't often sync up with whatever planet he's on, so it makes sense he'd be awake; it's probably the middle of the day where he is.

One little text won't hurt, you decide, hope blossoming in your chest as you open up your last conversation with him. The keyboard thrums under your excited fingertips.

That spark dies almost too fast. You type out various mishmashes of greetings, deleting them as they pop up on screen. Doubts and anxieties that never plague you during the day creep in, forcing you to overthink every single variation of 'I'M GOING TO BLOW UP A LIBRARY IF YOU DON'T GET HOME SOON' and 'u busy? :3'

You huff into the pillow which you've wrestled into your lap, eventually settling on a response, practically chewing your nails to bits like this is a first crush and not your life partner.

The sound of it sending is sobering.

You: [One game attached] Let's play 8 Ball! 🎱

You hope he's eating enough. His little ragtag group (that take up the task of mothering him when you're not around) in your heart, must be enjoying a filling meal at a local restaurant, not at all in peril danger.

To your dread and delight, the little seen indicator pops up beneath the game link. You wait for him to join the match and play a round, but his typing bubble appears. Dan Heng has something to say.

The only thing that could possibly pull you away from your phone right now would be an incoming hurricane. Actually, no, you'd fly away with the wind and rain before that. It vibrates finally--

his icy eyes darted through the bodies of people. there was sarah. focusing in on his sister’s surroundings, rafe’s confusion only depends when he was unable to locate you: you weren’t there.

needing answers, he pushed his way through the bustling country club, a surge of determination washing over him. he dropped into the seat beside his sister, his voice remaining casual.

rafe felt his smile falter. home? headache? questions began to pollute his mind. why hadn’t you announced your departure? why hadn’t you at least said goodbye?

his brows knitted together, his face scrunching as frustration began brewing beneath the surface. leaning back in his chair, he attempted to piece together what had gone wrong; he was left with only disappointment, growing in his chest.

There is no difference in zodiac months in astrology

— This means that there is no difference between, say, an October Scorpio and a November Scorpio for example. I’m not sharing this as my opinion either, in the classical study and understanding of astrology this will not be taught. Deacons can be more useful in explaining this phenomenon.

No sign or placement is ‘worse’ than another.

— All astrological placements, especially zodiac, have the capacity for positive and negative features. Some placements might require more work or they might not be in complete harmony, but that does not inherently make the person with said sign placement bad. Everyone has positives and negatives in the chart, all human life requires work and resilience and hopefully growth into something better than when we started.

Nothing is set in stone in astrology

— Everything in life is fluid and has the capability to change over time. The placements of your natal chart indicate potential. A proclivity for behaving a certain way. You might not embody everything about a certain sign or placement. You might embody said placement at one time, then through growth you don’t anymore. Another placement or aspect might completely overshadow a certain signs behaviors making it so that you don’t behave a certain way. You can have horribly negative looking placements and aspects (signs in detriment or a lot of squares and oppositions) but you could totally work through them with ease and kick ass at life. Diminishing your existence to your astrological profile and having a rigid hold on yourself is not what astrology is meant for in my opinion.

If you study astrology, you’re an astrologer.

— You don’t need to open up a shop or go take some astro course to become an astrologer. I understand if you’re just starting out and you feel like a newbie that you might not want to call yourself an astrologer, and that’s fine. But if you have been self studying for years, know all the zodiacs in order by name and can recall most of the archetypes by memory, know how housing systems work and what they represent from memory, know the differences between aspects and how they are calculated, know about different types of astrology, housing systems, and synastry/composite chart reading I think it’s safe to say that you’re an astrologer. Congratulations! Even if you’re not there yet, but you have the desire to continue learning go ahead an call yourself an astrologer too. I give you the pass.

A new label!
