Daily thread about BridgertonS3. We are almost there people, only 7 days left, we can do it!

Oh boy, today is going to be almost controversial I'd say. So, let's talk about what makes Colin different than all the previous male leads.

Spoilers, it's emotionally availability.

Comparing Simon and Anthony to Colin allows us to really see the difference. I love them both dearly, especially Anthony (and his first daughter syndrome, me 🤝 Anthony), but Colin has consistently demostrate througout the serie that he is different (not better or worse, just different).

He is not perfect by any means, don't get me wrong. He does make mistakes, but once he realizes that, he owns them. Apologize. And most importantly, he tried to do better.

He realized he loved pen at the end of episode 2, pass one (1) episode and a half pining and, as soon he realizes he has to do something, he does. Propriety being damn! And he doesn't stop there, because he proclaim his feelings only after confirmation that Pen is not elsewhere engaged, and he was ready to back away when it seems Pen was going to reject him, and he asked and waited for a visual sign of consent before showing her what she was missing, so to speak.

So, when I read posts saying he is boring, I get what they are saying. If you're not used to emotional availability, I guess it might comes out as boring (I'm sure it's not the only reason, but it's one of the reason for sure).

But this is the exact reason why we need many more male lead like Colin, because this is the type of positive masculinity we need so desperately. We need male leads that make mistakes, own them and act on their feelings in a open communication with their s.o.

Moreover, everyone has toxic behaviors, but the difference that exist between healthy and toxic people it's all in the acknowledge and the growth you do when you realize your behavior is hurting someone or yourself.

So, thank you Bridgerton (from Julia Quinn to the entire production team of the show, from Luke to us viewers) for creating a male lead that give us a different way of doing stuff. A more compassionate, healthy and resilient way of being in a relationship. Thank you!

The Knights Radiant as The Fears from The Magnus Archives

Sacrificing yourself to a cause following trauma and gaining powers from supernatural entities as a result is a common thread here... Perhaps the Radiants are the positive fears that Gerry didn't believe in.

Windrunners - The Vast

Windrunners are a group of people who love to throw themselves into the sky. It doesn't get more Vast avatar than that. Vast avatars and Windrunners/Honorspren both have a duality within their members - some are having The Most Fun, others are running from something.

Simon Fairchild would be a Windrunner with very skewed Radiant oaths. Michael Crew would have begged for a Honorspren bond after being chased by Cryptics.

Kaladin, however, would be an avatar of the Lonely, given that it is heavily tied to isolation and depression.

Skybreakers - The Hunt

The Hunt fits modern Skybreakers very well - Nale's leadership leans heavily into hunting down individuals that are perceived to be guilty at all costs, and the order is heavily associated with law, police and corruption, with members trying to protect and ultimately causing more harm.

Daisy and Basira would both be Skybreakers, alongside Julia and Trevor. (Daisy/Basira would make an interesting Radiant/spren duo...)

Szeth, as a hired assassin, would be an avatar of the Hunt that has given over to it entirely in order to find his purpose. Alternatively, Szeth (especially whilst carrying Nightblood) could be an avatar of the End.

Dustbringers - The Desolation

Whilst many Dustbringers would likely hate this assessment of the order, it is quite an obvious parallel. The fire, the destruction, the volatility... it all feeds into the Desolation.

Agnes Montague, Jude Perry, and most of the members of the Lightless Flame would be Dustbringers. Tim could also become a Dustbringer.

Edgedancers - The Corruption

Edgedancers are one of the more difficult orders to place. Whilst their remembrance of the forgotten feeds into the Eye, they would be closer to the Corruption. Edgedancers are healers and field medics, complementing the Corruption's domain of disease and infestation. Their ideals are focused on being caring towards everyone, especially those who are otherwise ignored, and they were the most religious of the Radiants, linking to the more metaphorical aspects of the Corruption.

Avatars of the Corruption (Jane Prentiss, John Amherst) could potentially be corrupted/enlightened Edgedancers, which would be an interesting twist on the order and its ideals.

Truthwatchers - The Eye

This one is in the name of the order, and its ideals - Truthwatchers seek knowledge, and sit back from the action, and observe, discovering and recording the truth of events. They even collected statements to form the gem archive!

The Archivist (notably Jon, but also Gertrude and the previous Archivists) and Elias/Jonah would be Truthwatchers, and the archival assistants would act as their squires.

Just... look at Renarin. He's already an Eye avatar.

Lightweavers - The Spiral/The Stranger

Lightweavers could represent both the Spiral and the Stranger. Their powers are built on lies, and deceptions, and breaking the rules of reality itself, which feeds into the Sprial. But these abilities also lean into concealed identities, the uncanny and the unknown, representing the Stranger.

Sasha would be a Lightweaver - whilst she is (at least partially) of the Eye, she had significant encounters with the Spiral and the Stranger, and her philosophies seemed to be aligned with the Stranger.

Elhokar's extreme paranoia would easily attract the attention of the Spiral. Shallan fits both the Stranger and the Spiral, given her past - perhaps Testament would be associated with the Spiral, and Pattern with the Stranger, marking her for both entities.

Elsecallers - The Web

Elsecallers would be linked to the Web. Elsecallers are often similar to the Truthwatchers in their scholarly natures, but are more commonly found in leadership positions.

Jasnah would easily be a Web avatar. Hoid, despite being a Lightweaver and Eye-aligned storyteller/observer, is subtly manipulative from the sidelines enough to become an avatar of the Web.

Willshapers - The Lonely

Willshapers were also difficult to align with a Fear. As adventurers with wildly varying pasts and a focus on the self, however, they could become Lonely avatars.

Peter Lukas, given both his isolationist and explorative tendencies, would be a Willshaper. Martin, however, is more difficult to place - he could easily fit many of the orders, but would likely become a Truthwatcher through his connection to the Eye.

Venli, isolated from the Radiants and the Fused in many ways, could become a Lonely avatar.

Stonewards - The Slaughter

Stonewards, once again, are difficult to place. Their focus on strength and athleticism could be associated with the Flesh; however, their powers are specifically unable to manipulate flesh. As frontline soldiers, they are most closely aligned with the Slaughter during war.

Melanie, being stubborn and defensive, would probably be a Stoneward, although there's potential for her anger to guide her towards the Dustbringers.

Bondsmiths - The Extinction

Bondsmiths are the leaders of resistance against an apocalypse in part caused by humanity, aligning the order with the Extinction. The destruction of Ashyn at the hands of Bondsmiths strengthens this connection - one world has already been destroyed by their actions.

Current Dalinar would potentially be marked by the Extinction; however, his Blackthorn past would lead to him being an avatar of the Slaughter also influenced by the Desolation.

wait i’m gonna be so annoying and have a final thoughts here

the aesthetic & main romance has just really fallen off. they are incapable of sticking the landing in the third act & while they still have some good looks, i think there’s a certain level of playing it too safe (see Kate’s wardrobe!!!!!) and also just, bizarre makeup choices that were a bit distracting.

they also just don’t know how to keep a character waiting for their romance while building that character up over several arcs. kind of a bad trait to have for a tv show?? 😭😭 like, i love them with all my heart, but everyone has said that eloise, benedict, & colin have felt so confused at points as characters, like the writers didn’t know where to go with them. they’re just waiting for their romance instead of like, growing.

Colin was the male lead what do we even know about him beyond his inability to interact with a woman without projecting onto her.

once again the milfs outsold, agatha and violet are the best thing about this series and i don’t care how much i like violet’s lil thing with agatha’s brother, i want those two gossipy old milfs to kiss sloppy style.

it’s too goddamn short, i think this wasn’t a problem in s1 or qc bc it’s the First season so there’s not as many characters to follow but they keep introducing all these other characters that take space away from a) The Main Couple and b) The Bridgertons As A Family, and those are the draws of the series!! it’s too much for only 8 episodes, what happened to 12-18 episodes for high budget or cable shows, if they had these people on like Normal tv contracts they wouldn’t have such a hard time scheduling and have these long ass waits between seasons Either, im tired of this and i blame the duffer brothers and i want those two nerds hunted for sport.

also hyacinth and gregory are getting SO OLD OMG HURRY UP 😭😭😭

i think they did a better job this season with folding the siblings in together but it feels disjointed from s2. anthony & kate specifically feel very oddly thrown in there and idgi. i loved seeing the bridgertons using calling times as an excuse for Group Hangs, and i loved the way John pointed this out to Francesca. i liked that the ending with benedict where he’s realizing he’s the oldest still left at home with two like, toddler siblings and feeling unhappy with it, but bc they struggle with incorporating all the siblings together, we really lose that thread from last season between him & anthony that could have given benedict a way to explore his sexuality in a slutty way while also giving anthony something to do & not drop the art school thing. however, this is all detailed and would take a lot of time and they only have eight episodes. why. do 13-18 or im gonna start sending death threats to ceos. for legal reasons that’s a joke haha.

i do think in the few kathony scenes we got, they nailed the dynamic that she is the world’s most put upon eldest daughterson and he needs to be institutionalized. pls put jonathan bailey and simone ashley in another thing together so i can see them together again. this can’t be the end. be the next tom hanks and meg ryan please. he george clooney and julia roberts. i’m on my knees here.

am i allowed to say i’m glad we got a long devirginizing scene like in s1 & qc but also we did not see Nearly enough of those two fucking. more than kathony but imo still not on the level of the other two. also you could write an essay here about the sex politics of this show. i will refrain and say Is This Not The Pervert’s Show?? Can we Please get better pandering????

i think no one can handle a big cast like shonda not even her hand picked teams. qc handled having a host of characters so much better. early grey’s is really great at this. htgawm is good at this. u can tell what season she was really In That Writer’s Room. shonda pls get back in the writer’s room i need something as emotionally devastating as “meredith i’m so sorry” “you must be the woman whose screwing my husband” i need sexy like the “teach me” scene but with the freedom of streaming to get freaky with it, this cast WANTS to deliver but netflix & these writers are NOT up to the challenge!!!

Honestly I have SO MANY muses and as a result I have so many OTP's that go along with that, both canon, crossover, crack and OC OTP's

HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE? 

This is gonna sound weird, but it depends on the species of the muses. If it's two human muses I probably wouldn't want to go maybe more than 20 years? And that's assuming the youngest muse is at least 21. The exception in regards to species is vampires and fae, any species with longevity spanning centuries and beyond. some of the age gaps with those muses can get excessive, but I would still say that physically in appearance they'd have to be within the around 20 years (if that makes sense). Of course ALL if this is with the assumption that all muses are over the age of 18. We ain't out here imprinting on babies. I'm side-eyeing Twilight hard at this one.

HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?

I have seen it far to many times where people completely ignore someone's female muses and solely write with the male muses while constantly hinting at shippy things in the thread. It gets demotivating, so please don't ignore my female muses who would love even platonic interactions, or enemy interactions in favour or trying to force ships with my guys.

Lucia made her way over to Julia, downing the remainder of her spiked cider and holding one out to offer the woman in the tight leather getup. “Drink?” She offered. “You probably don’t have much room for anything else in that,” Lucia teased with a smirk. “All we need is Batman to come rushing over here now, don’t we?” Though, she was more inclined to be without the company of another male right now. Jackson was strutting around somewhere in his overalls and well, there was plenty of eye candy on display.

Based on the pacing so far I think Jon and Martin are going to reach the Panopticon around ep 178-180, assuming they’re only going through one domain per entity and we get 1-2 more episodes like the assistant episode that wasn’t featuring a domain. There will probably be at least two episodes dedicated to the Panopticon since it’s such a huge plot point. Which means there will probably be a whole 20 episodes following reaching Jon and Martin’s current destination, so I’m really curious what’s going to come after that.

For funsies I decided to make a list of what I think the most likely order of the domains are going to be leading up to the Panopticon. The Dark, the Vast, the Hunt, the Spiral, with the Web last if at all.

I think Dark will be next because it doesn’t have an avatar anymore and the pattern so far has been to have an episode with an avatar, and then an episode or two either without an avatar or in Oliver’s case an avatar Jon had no stake in killing. After that I think either the Vast (Simon is another avatar they don’t have a huge stake in killing compared to the others) or the Hunt (depending on if it’s Trevor/Julia there or Daisy and Basira, I think it will be earlier if it’s Trevor/Julia or later if it’s Daisy and Basira). Then the Spiral, and last the Web. I think the Web will most likely be located where Hilltop Road used to be—unless that plot thread is for after the Panopticon.

This is a great discussion about Magnus mentioning famous people he has met in the past. I wanted to reblog and answer, but the thread is already long, so I’ll just make my own post concerning the part about Casanova. Here’s how that namedrop went in 2x07:

[Magnus and Alec are interrupted by the sounds of Jace having sex with Kaelie.] Magnus: I haven't had a roommate this brazen since... Well, since Casanova and I spent the night in the Doge's Palace. Alec: (GRUNTS) Casanova? Magnus: [Looks at Alec as if he realizes that Alec interpreted his words about Casanova not in the way he intended it. Opens his mouth to say something, but is interrupted by Alec.]

Alec: I'll talk to Jace. He can't stay here forever.

“Roommate” is a really strange choice of a word, if Magnus meant to imply that Casanova was one of his lovers. Especially, in the context of comparing Casanova to Jace (who was staying in Magnus’ loft at the time). 

Jace has a certain reputation that Simon summarized in 3x02:

“I just assume that pretty much everyone's slept with Jace at this point. It's only a matter of time before I sleep with him myself, I guess.”

So, if 100 years into the future from now Magnus mentions something about “living with Jace” to young random shadowhunters, based on both Magnus’ and Jace’ reputations, they may assume that Jace and Magnus were lovers, but it wouldn’t be true. 

So, the words about Casanova are not a confirmation that Casanova was one of Magnus’ lovers. So far it’s just an assumption that Alec (and the viewers) made because of Casanova’s reputation, because of Magnus’ bisexuality, and because Alec was thinking about his first time with Magnus and that namedrop didn’t help his own insecurities and doubts. 

People are acting as if Magnus is constantly being insensitive by namedropping his famous lovers to purposely hurt Alec or something. And that is not true. Michelangelo is the only famous person that Magnus mentioned to Alec as being his lover. And that happened: 

when they first met, way before they become a couple; 

because Magnus wanted to let Alec know that he, Magnus, is bisexual and interested in Alec, whom he recognizes as a lgbt person.  

The only other famous person that we, viewers, know of being Magnus’ lover, is Freddie Mercury. Whom Magnus never namedrops to Alec. The Freddie Mercury revelation happened in a conversation between Dot and Magnus.

Some people are acting as if Magnus mentioned Jessica Rabbit making him breakfast, and not Julia Child – you know, a married woman, and a faithful wife as far as we know (by the way, Jessica Rabbit was also a faithful wife). 

Magnus also mentioned knowing Truman Capote in a conversation with Maryse and Alec. Does it mean that Magnus slept with Capote too? (Tbh, the idea of Magnus sleeping with Capote makes more sense than with Julia).
