She did not expect anyone to be there. Nunnally was sure she was alone. It was even weirder as she should have heard the steps; the person approaching. It was not like her to get surprised. The words were bitter. She could hear that in the tone they were spoken. Or so she thought. Turning her face, still marked with almost dry tears, towards the unexpected visited, the pearl grey eyes was the first thing that drew her attention. She could say he was not…hmmm…average? Should she be scared? Even if so, that was not the feeling she had: --

“Yes, no-one can save another person. No-one can even promise to protect another person. If someone does, these are usually empty promises.” – she had heard too many empty promises throughout her life. Too many promises broken, too many words said only to lure another person, to make them comply. To make them obey.

“But can we really save ourselves?” – that was a true question; Nunnally did not know. She could not decide on that – “Wouldn’t our mistakes hunt us till the end of our days? Wouldn’t our past haunt our future? Is there a future for the like of us?” – she was not sure if the person speaking to her was anything like herself, but it was a safe guess. She could easily embrace these words. Accept them. Believe in them. Her tone would not probably be as bitter as his, as she had accepted her fate and her mistakes, but definitely there were many regrets in her. And hope?

“I think there is a point of no return. After crossing it, it’s there’s no more hope…no more salvation…”

A small pause and a voice full of hesitation: --

“And I think I have crossed it long ago…I think no-one can save me, myself included…”

Another pause: --

“Have you? Do you think you have crossed it, too?”
