for the record this is specifically life series scott and impulse but i tend to incorporate elements of other series into my headcanons too 👍

they're both:

very logic-orientated people. they tend to gravitate towards looking for the solution that makes the most sense rather than acting on instinct.

the designated "responsible one" in their respective groups, a role neither of them really asked for but kind of just ended up finding themselves in. it's not that either of them Hate having to be the responsible one but they certainly tire of it at times.

^ because of that, they also tend to somewhat isolate from said groups when things go wrong cus they're used to relying on themselves instead of looking for help. think (former) dogwarts impulse.

i joked abt this with the screenshot already lol but both of them have a bitchy streak. impulse's is alot less talked about and tends to be "tamer" than scott's but it's definitely there (it's more noticeable when skizz is nearby)

both can hold grudges FOREVER while acting like they couldn't care less.

when they're freed from that "responsible one" role, they both tend to enter this freaky gremlin mode where they start giggling and pulling dumb pranks.

they're both smooth-talkers who can hide their real emotions really well ESPECIALLY compared w/ other ppl in the series. sometimes they do it on purpose other times it's almost more of an instinctual thing.

the key difference is that impulse is more emotionally mature than scott. scott closes himself off in fear of being vulnerable while impulse is always to sit down with you and have a heart-to-heart. impulse has "settled down" a lot more, so to speak, and isn't quite as dramatic or in need of attention or approval.

it results in impulse feeling like a lot warmer of an individual, he's not intimidating because he's not trying to be (even though he very much has the ability).

anyway uh i rlly want to write or draw some sort of one shot where impulse takes scott under his wing a bit. i think they'd be good for eachother's character development is all.

I feel deep and intense fondness for reader interaction oh my god, hi hello absolutely: it's the lifeblood of writer motivation imo, getting any questions about any of my fics at any time is a huge mood boost and incredibly welcomed :')

🤯 - What’s a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

Personally? Anything to do with mystery (unsure if i can think up an actually compelling mystery with a satisfying reveal and interesting setup + red herrings), political drama (I Do Not Know Politics but it would be cool to learn even just to apply to a written work), or comedy. Can't wrap my head around it 😔 but by god will i try

🦅- Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

I'll listen to music i associate with a character, be it original or established, and then think of Scenarios! An idea for something gradually grows from there, and after rubber-ducky-ing off of some friends I write a general outline of what could happen, and then start writing! This outline usually goes through proper processing and through by about the 3rd chapter if it's a longform piece of writing, but can change at any time depending on how the story ultimately unfolds

🤗 - What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?

Oh man, I want to say that despite how tempting and fulfilling it can feel, placing your sense of self worth as a writer in the hands of readers, gauging it by how much they engage with your work by how many kudos, hits, comments, or bookmarks you get, will just end up fostering this sense of misery and 'not good enough', it'll make you burn out or only write for the attention and it's not Healthy nor condusive to becoming a better writer imo. It's difficult, it absolutely is, but you have to learn to write for yourself first and foremost, and to accept that sometimes people just Won't interact with your stuff but that's not a mark against you and your own skills. Sometimes things just don't align, and it Sucks, but i find it ultimately healthier to weather and learn to cope and accept, rather than try to chase a sense of fulfilment in the hands of others

Anothe piece of advice I feel should be give (by anyone rlly, esp writers worth their salt) would be to be aware of how fandom can tend to sand down characters into archetypal, easily digestible formats that are nearly identical to characters in completely different media. (this isn't to say fandom interpretations as a whole are 'bad', that's a gross generalisation, but they can be incredibly reductive) I say this so as to avoid trappings in fandom; being able to dissect Why people might interpret a character in this way and how you as a writer can be more faithful to their canon. This makes AUs and character analyses, or even just fics heavily centred on character development all the more satisfying, knowing you have an understand of a character deep enough that they're still recognisable as themself, despite how much they've changed

Not currently! Have a good friend who has offered for WDH and I hope to take him up on that offer if it's still up :D

🧐 - Do you spend much time researching for your stories?

Will admit that yeah, I think I do lmao, sci-hub, libgen, and pdfdrive are great for research papers + books, and I also just enjoy research and looking things up in general, it's personally very fun to apply new knowledge to one's writing - I think for DB I was researching things from the history of oil lamps to gun manufacturing dates to abandoned New York City subway tunnels, never know what you'll pick up from fanfiction lmao

I haven't read the fic, so I don't know the full contents of it, but I am a huge fan of What Remains of Edith Finch (& OFMD, of course). Edith Finch is a really great narrative-based video game, about Edith, the last of her entire family, returning to her abandoned home and uncovering the mysteries of the past. Her family's believed to be cursed, with nearly every member having an untimely death and memorialized in looked room and Edith finally learning how they all died. The games entire plot is focused on death. It's about the loss of fanily and the grief we carry through generation, so a little bit of the opposite of OFMD's message of found family and it's never too late to heal. It's a very sad story but extremely cathartic and haunting and beautiful. I reccomend it, and you don't have to be huge into video games to play. Though i get its not for all because of the subject matter. So what I'm guessing is seems like anon was just frustrated that someone wrote a story where Stede being sad was gonna be a focus. Which yeah I like Stede being happy too but there's nothing inherently wrong with writing a story where he's not and it's kind of rude to say we should shame someone for it. You're kind proving their point there for maybe why they wrote the fic anonymously. Again tho, I did not read the fic so I don’t know if it has anything offensive in it, but from that anon's reaction, it seems like that wasn't the issue, but just Stede not being happy or doing things to make Ed happy.

Gearbreakers: Please please please read this book. It's a sci-fi dystopian novel that stars two sapphic protagonists and has some amazing worldbuilding. It's part of a duology but I haven't read the second book yet. Either way probably one of my favorite books right now.

Cinderella is Dead: This book sat on my shelf for months and I regret not reading it sooner. I kid you not, I read it in two days. The book itself is a fantasy book about a girl who doesn't fit into the "perfect world" that Cinderella left behind 200 years ago. She's grown up with the myth, but as her story progresses, she realizes that it might not be quite true. (Also I felt myself crushing on the love interest. Great descriptions.)

Now for more teen novels, since I'm a sucker for romance:

She Drives Me Crazy: Rivals to lovers between a basketball player and a cheerleader. It's a fake dating book. I actually think that's my taste in books. Sapphic fake dating books. I'll be honest, not my personal favorite, but still a good book nonetheless.

Some Girls Do: The first sapphic book I ever purchased. I read this at the age of twelve and most definitely shouldn't have, but it's really become a comfort book from me. It's a relationship between a trackstar who was kicked out of her catholic school for being gay, and a mechanic who's a badass. It really explores the differences in queerness for different people, along with unhealthy relationships.

I Kissed Shara Wheeler: I cannot tell you how good this book is. Enemies to Lovers and one of the most captivating stories I've ever read. It's one of the books that turns all the straight people not straight by the end, and I think those are honestly my favorite. Either way, I devoured this book as well, and I'd highly recommend it.

Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating: So this one's probably self explanatory by the title. But it's absolutely incredible. As someone who says they're not a huge fan of fake dating, I sure do read a lot of it, and this one comes in at the top. Simply an incredible book, and both characters are some that I still remember and think about, even years after reading the book.
