ok i reblogged smth on my sideblog that i really liked but didn't agree with the main point op made but i didn't wanna. seem like i was arguing with them in the tags so i'm writing this here lol.

pearl didn't throw the fight against scar.

in fact, everything mentioned in that post contributed to her decision to Actually Fight Him.

Pearl has been meaning to sacrifice herself for someone else all season, and when she lost her mounders she scrambled to find a replacement.

Scar rejects that notion, in his own words "it would be lame".

Pearl ends the series talking a lot about Double Life and what it did to her, the lack of closure she got from it. I think hearing that from Scar made her realise she was becoming like Scott and that's very not who she is. I think she got her senses back in those last moments and had faith in Scar that she could fight him properly and really give him the victory he deserves.

Cus yeah. Anything else would be lame.

Scar earned that victory through and through.

not be an obnoxious art student but i think there's a lot to consider here. people tend to show more 'impressive' pieces of artwork that are technically skillful to make a point of "____ can be serious too" but why does art have to be fundamentally sound to be "real art"? if something evokes a strong emotion within the viewer but is not visually pleasing, is it still "art"? etc. etc. it's a very interesting topic and i'd love to see how the pitch turns out :D

if i may, i'd like to nominate @joifee? (hope the tag is ok) their art/fic is adorable and gorgeous and if i recall correctly they have background knowledge about fine arts and I think hearing their opinion on a project like this would be really insightful.

Hey mcytblr! I currently have the wild opportunity to pitch an art exhibition to an actual real gallery with whatever theme I want as part of my intro to curatorial studies class this semester.

My plan is to put together a pitch for an mcyt fanart exhibition, with the goal to show that the genre is just as valid in the art world as traditional fine arts. I'm currently very early in the process, and am working on selecting which artists I want to reach out to to ask to include their work in this theoretical exhibition. However, of course, the community is huge and there's bound to be hundreds of artists here I've never even heard of! Especially those making fanart of series I don't watch. So here's where I'm asking for help from the community at large! Please reblog this post with the names of mcyt artists whose work you enjoy, with a link to either their portfolio or art tag! I'm thinking about the mounders.

I'm thinking about how they had all in some shape or form been subjected to being outcast or betrayed by their peers at some point, specifically those who should've been the closest to them. How they didn't want to inflict that on eachother no matter what because they'd all been through that pain already.

I'm thinking about pearl again and again being terrified that her friends were gonna turn on her, only for joel and bdubs to reassure her they weren't going to, episode after episode.

I'm thinking about mumbo not being 'in' on the whole dynamic because his mind is still stuck in last life, unable to comprehend that there is no danger from your own allies just because you are red and the other mounders trying to talk him down even as he was actively trying to kill them.

I'm thinking about the last thing that joel hears before he dies being scott mocking him for being unable to finish him off, "i got the regen from killing bdubs", with an undertone of you're failing because you couldn't protect your friend. because joel was never meant to or good at having those, at least according to scott. you should've betrayed him when you still had the chance. if joel had just shot bdubs in the back, the fight with scott would've gone differently. but joel didn't. and if it was bdubs, i don't think he would either.

I'm thinking about pearl seeing that she had lost both of her remaining mounders in a matter of seconds, when she'd been talking to them minutes before. I'm thinking about pearl being left alone again, her worst fear confirmed, once again unable to protect the few allies she has.

I'm thinking about Pearl and Scar gravitating towards eachother because of course they would. Both know what it's like to be feared and villainized and cast aside. Both know what it's like to be rejected by a soulmate. Both have so much love to give.

I'm thinking about it being Scott who took out Joel and Bdubs, once again isolating Pearl. I'm thinking about Grian holding his own against three people for long enough to do an unreasonable amount of damage to Gem, indirectly aiding in Scar's win later without even knowing it.

I'm thinking about Scott telling Pearl earlier in the series that he loved her and that they were over their trauma, only for Pearl to remind him she isn't and they still have a score to settle.

I'm thinking about Scar refusing to let Pearl give him the win and forcing her hand. Just for the fun of it. Because it would be lame otherwise.

something about the way the first and last deaths this season bookend eachother so well. lizzie dying alone and unnoticed in the void. pearl healing from her own loneliness only to lose her friends again. scar's "how did the guy with no friends win?" followed by a laugh of disbelief. this series' themes go so hard--

its late and I'm half awake so you'll have to forgive me but. There's something interesting about how the start of this season really spotlights like.. the character development everyone's gone through?

Etho is probably the clearest example. Those familiar with watching his pov have known that he was always kind of an awkward nerd, but now Everyone knows he's an awkward nerd. Gone are the days when people would be hesitant to approach him due to his fearsome reputation and intimidating aura (which was really just him being too anxious to speak). So he doesn't need to pretend to be that anymore either.

Bigb is a similar case. He's always been just a little bit of a troll who enjoys confusing other people and their distress that comes with it. But he's also been a bit of a shrinking violet in past seasons who mostly stays out of trouble and doesn't really stand up for himself. This time though he's more than willing to grab the opportunity to give Cleo (or anybody else) a verbal beatdown if it's entertaining enough.

Pearl and Joel have friends now. Jimmy expresses his frustration more outwardly. Cleo is more genuine with her feelings and is no longer hiding her care for others under a tough exterior.

Idk its. It's nice to see. all of it feels so different from what we're used to seeing from them but at the same time it all makes perfect sense.

And then there's tango who seems to have gone completely feral idk wtf is going on there

hi hi i have so many Thoughts that i will definitely miss Something but. lots of things. spoilers for ep1 under the cut obvs.

why is every ship getting crumbs. literally all of them. what is wrong with everyone wtf. (except treebark. treebark girlies stay losing)

new mechanic is insanely hype and i am going a little bit feral over it. i've been wanting a UHC-style season for a long time and this seems a great way to kind of. entertainment-fy it i suppose? cus as much as i wanted straight up UHC i can totally understand why players like joel or skizz or scar would struggle hard in that sort of ruleset and it wouldn't be very fun to watch as a result.

i'm a bit.. tentative about the more acknowledgment of the Lore this time around? On one hand i love it and i think it's incredibly cool but on the other hand i know well that lore can eat a series alive if let out of control. Especially when fans start getting pushy about their theories and disappointed when inevitably things aren't as explained or thoroughly confirmed or straight up forgotten. (<-- fnaf fan. i have seen it. it is horrible)

that being said i have trust in grian specifically to handle it well and not go off the deep end with it cus a good chunk of the viewers don't know/care for the lore and if it becomes a Big Thing then a lot of people are gonna end up feeling alienated and confused.

i LOVED Bigb's episode and i think it's like. the ideal way to incorporate lore into a series like this. the way you can Feel that something is off rather than it being explicitly shown. you can choose to write it off or dig deeper. it's good juice. I've mentioned this before but I'll say it again -- Bigb is easily one of the strongest roleplayers on the entire server and his editing REALLY sells it hard. He really melts into what's happening rather than getting up on a platform and shouting THIS PART IS IMPORTANT. LOOK AT ME. which i really appreciate as a kind-of honorary former theatre kid.

but yeah tl;dr i think lore/fan theories should be left to the fandom mainly otherwise it starts getting weird. that being said i trust the life series ppl and can't wait to see what's going on with this season.

now if i may be unhinged myself. i def agree with the theory that Something is up with Bigb's task and maybe whatever gave it to him is trying to mess with the game.

Bigb and Mumbo specifically I felt were acting.. a little OOC the whole episode? Bigb was very much on purpose i think and i reckon mumbo's just excited to be back lol but its fun to think about

the task system has a lot of potential for. fanfic symbolism fuel. i mentioned this on my spam blog i think but something something about the way the players' tasks almost seem to. mock them? a little bit?

like pearl's being to "earn" people's hearts after she failed to make any connections throughout double life and has been somewhat isolated the whole series. bdubs being known for his efficient and beautiful builds being told to make something ugly and useless. scott being implicitly called a parasite with his history of teaming and latching onto one specific person each season. etc. etc.

the teams this time around are looking interesting and i think it's worth noting how it almost feels like.. the opposite of limlife a bit? with how slow and cautious everyone has to play. it seems like over half the server haven't really even joined up with anyone yet which is intriguing. (im personally praying for a scar/jimmy team up. just cus scott said they wouldn't make it lol)

which is great for me cus i loved limlife but the chaoticness of everything did kind of. make deaths less impactful i think? if i see another sky bridge i might scream

im very. of two minds about the scott and impulse team up. because if you dig through my blog you'll see i have kind of a history of being unhinged about those two and their parallels. but i have the sneaking suspicion that their actual dynamic will be like nothing i had in mind lmao

overall i am very excited but trying to control my expectations

anyway uhh liauditore text post time (jimmy/skizz/tango plate up funny thoughts under the cut)

"that's nice, get out of my kitchen," jimmy snaps and chuckles to himself a bit as he does, amused by his own wit. he catches himself too late. oh god, did he really just say that? to skizz?

it was a slip so easy to make. his stupid brain had a habit of it, thinking up these cutting responses to everything others said. he'd trained himself well enough to not be so rude around his usual group of friends (and they'd destroy him if he'd said something like that near them) but tango and skizz were... unfamiliar. new. but warm and welcoming. a combination that brought out something in jimmy he thought had been beaten out of him long ago.

thoughts ran through his head, a million at once. what does he say now? is there any use in apologising? tango and skizz had been so gracious to him til now, will they kick him out? will he get yelled at? before or after work is over? he's going to be thrown out in front of everyone--

in the real world, a second had passed.

"s-sorry--" jimmy chokes out the beginning of an apology, suddenly cut off by another sound. the sound of laughter.

skizz is laughing. he gives jimmy back a few hearty, playful smacks, stern enough to make him stand up straight but soft enough to not hurt.

"This guy!" skizz chuckles. "i'm tellin' ya, these young guys these days. like spitfire!"

"yeah, well, he wouldn't have to talk like that if you weren't botherin' him all the time," tango adds as he passed over a stack of dirty dishes to the chefs. "do your job, stupid."

"i am! i am! God!" skizz grabs the plates off tango like hands on a clock. perfectly in sync. jimmy didn't catch what they said next. but the next time he looked over, they were chuckling together.

"Great work, Jimbo," skizz tells him at the end of the shift.

Jimmy thinks about it for a moment. Then smiles.

"I know."

i will probably talk abt it more in the coming days or so cus I've been rotating impulse in my mind quite a bit of recent, but since you've given me an excuse...... (scott/impulse parallels and brainrot thoughts under the cut) (i think it's only me who sees these but yanno. fun)

for the record this is specifically life series scott and impulse but i tend to incorporate elements of other series into my headcanons too 👍

they're both:

very logic-orientated people. they tend to gravitate towards looking for the solution that makes the most sense rather than acting on instinct.

the designated "responsible one" in their respective groups, a role neither of them really asked for but kind of just ended up finding themselves in. it's not that either of them Hate having to be the responsible one but they certainly tire of it at times.

^ because of that, they also tend to somewhat isolate from said groups when things go wrong cus they're used to relying on themselves instead of looking for help. think (former) dogwarts impulse.

i joked abt this with the screenshot already lol but both of them have a bitchy streak. impulse's is alot less talked about and tends to be "tamer" than scott's but it's definitely there (it's more noticeable when skizz is nearby)

both can hold grudges FOREVER while acting like they couldn't care less.

when they're freed from that "responsible one" role, they both tend to enter this freaky gremlin mode where they start giggling and pulling dumb pranks.

they're both smooth-talkers who can hide their real emotions really well ESPECIALLY compared w/ other ppl in the series. sometimes they do it on purpose other times it's almost more of an instinctual thing.

the key difference is that impulse is more emotionally mature than scott. scott closes himself off in fear of being vulnerable while impulse is always to sit down with you and have a heart-to-heart. impulse has "settled down" a lot more, so to speak, and isn't quite as dramatic or in need of attention or approval.

it results in impulse feeling like a lot warmer of an individual, he's not intimidating because he's not trying to be (even though he very much has the ability).

anyway uh i rlly want to write or draw some sort of one shot where impulse takes scott under his wing a bit. i think they'd be good for eachother's character development is all.
