Your husband has been having a severe case of the baby fever for a long time now. It started when he saw you taking care of your baby sister. The sight of you carrying the baby in your arms while you make her laugh made him desire to have one with you.

He's been planting small hints and clues that he is very much interested in having children with you. But you were still oblivious no matter how many hints he dropped. So he decided to take matters in his own hands.

“Um? Darling, we don't have a baby.” You say as you look over the things that you and your husband had bought during your shopping spree.

Your husband smiles mischievously. “But aren't they adorable?” He holds up a onesie for a baby for your inspection. Sure, it did look cute, but it was useless if you two did not have a baby to use it for.

You sigh, knowing he wants to hear you say yes. “I suppose it is...” You grace him with a small smile which makes him beam happily. “But my point still stands, we don't have a baby to use it on.”

He smirks as he puts down the baby clothes and walks to your side, leaning to kiss your cheek. “Not yet, we don't.” He purrs in your ear, his hot breath causes you to shudder involuntarily.

Your cheeks grow flush at the implication he is giving through his suggestive words. “What?” You decide it's best to play innocent first because you really didn't want to embarrass yourself if it was not what you think.

He chuckles as he tucks a loose strand of hair into the back of your ear. “You know what I mean, my love.” He gives you a dazzling smile. “I want to make one. Right now.” He pauses. “That is if you don't mind?” He asks softly, waiting for your response.

He seemed so desperate for it that you found it adorable. You nod in agreement. “Okay.” You respond softly, giving him your consent to continue as he pleases.

He did not waste anymore time as he immediately shoves you to the couch, his impatience showing evident in his quick movements. You yelp as you are immediately pinned down, his hand pinning both of yours above your head while his free hand starts dealing with his belt.

“Darling—” You gasp only for him to interrupt. “Hush.” He whispers, silencing you by pressing a lingering kiss on your soft lips as he finally managed to get the belt off. “Be quiet and let me take care of you.”

Thinking about og Rudbeckia again. Was Freya a kind person originally, or was snake like the one we know. Was og!Ruby bullied and harassed everyday too, with Freya pulling conniving tricks to isolate the original from everyone? Was the original Ruby more angry, more resentful of everything? Everyone expected her to act like a Borgia, did anyone believe in her at all?

Did she try to be good and kind, but Izek never listened to her like he does now in the current timeline? We know he loved her, but could the original Ruby ever really trust that love? She's used to being hit by the hand that also feeds her.

The original Ruby loved Izek, but didn't trust him. The original Izek loved Ruby, but didn't trust her.

If she can't be as good as the Omertas, if nothing she does will ever make her good in their eyes, why not embrace the ruthlessness and cruelty of the Borgias? If she fundamentally feels like she will never be embraced by heaven, why not willingly walk into hell? Absolution, salvation and redemption never came to her. Did she believe that Cesare robbed her of her purity? That because of his touches she was fundamentally damned, while he still got to be holy? The God she worships has rejected her, abandoned her. Did the crosses she wore burn her skin that she felt was tainted? Did the gazes from the holy statues and paintings felt all-too-knowing?

Ruby was damned and dirty, and Izek was good and moral. As much as she loved him, she must have hated him too. He could have saved her but he never tried too. How disgusting did she feel next to him, while he shined with goodness he never offered to her. He couldn't save her but he couldn't let her go. A man too much like his father.

Did she like Ellen? Were they friends? Ruby says she killed her, but was she telling the truth? Did she mourn her death? Or did she feel inferior? The beloved daughter and sister beloved by the dukedom, her position of the lady of the house stolen by a disgusting Borgia. Was Ellen frightened of her, the madness and despair in Ruby's eyes all too familiar of her mother's? Ellen would have always taken Freya's side, did she help her usurp Ruby's position? Did Ruby know Ellen could only be a false ally, their positions and personalities too different to be anything but threatening to the other?

We don't know anything about her either. She's only been a dream, a mirage.

Her dress is bright red and low cut. Did she twist Cesare's sin into herself? "I'm someone so desirable I can even tempt the son of the Pope." Would she rather be villain then victim? Someone that can even make holy men sin, so don't treat her lightly. The more she tried to protect herself, the more isolated she became.

Until the end, there wasn't a single person on her side.

─────── A DISTANT MEMORY COMING BACK TO FIND ME...

It's all coming back to me now.

This started when Ruby came to my office, holding a new discovery in hand. New for her, but to me this was something he'd never wanted to see again.

"Izek, look at what I found!" Ruby's cheerful banter faded when she saw my reaction. In her hand was a picture frame. It had myself, my sister and... her.

Y/N L/N. My old friend. My heart drops the moment I saw it.

"Izek?" "That's...throw that away." "Huh?" I do not look back as I leave.

I go through the halls and find myself in a vacant bedroom. This room...it is empty for a reason. The scent is clear. Her scent is here.

Memories flood my brain even as I run away from it. Why is the memory so vivid? The scent brings back her being to me.

Now I sit on the bed where a memory lingers, seeing myself back by the bedside. Y/N before me. Her fingers clasping mine. So weak and frail.

"You okay, Izek?" The female's voice weak and faded. The smell of sweet medicine is strong on her breath as I pull her close. Her frame is small and weak compared to me.

"I should be asking that." "You already know the answer though..." I did and I also knew she didn't have longer time. "You'll live." I had replied, trying to give her the hope she didn't feel at all.

"...if you say so." She whispered, clutching onto me even more. Suddenly I feel my shirt getting wet, she's crying. "I don't want to die Izek...not when I have so many things I want to do..." She said through sobs, I had wiped her tears and told her again.

"I'll make sure you live." A few words that caused her to believe. A belief that fell within months of research.

I sit there, reminiscing the memories. Every day I had visited her here, sat at this exact spot telling her I found different ways to get her treatment. But treatment after treatment nothing worked. She was fading and had faded from my grasp.

Now the painful memory is in place. The remembrance of her dying wishes.

I hadn't been there when she faded. Only Ellen had been. I remember all too well. During the day I had at long last found something that could heal anything and it includes her. I rush to the castle only to be surprised by the look of hopeless faces, faces that spoke what I needed to know. I ran to the room, but was far too late. The maids were placing a cloth to cover the body on the bed. My father's face was somber and melancholy, my sister looked at me with her puffy eyes and her tearstained cheeks.

She was gone.

I had sat there again. It didn't bother me that the corpse remained. Everyone had left and I was alone. My fingers lift the cloth to see her pale face.

My lips had trembled as I grabbed her hand. No pulse. Tears threatened me as I placed my lips against the cold skin. No more warmth lay in them.

"You said you'd stay." I had choked out, tears streaming down my face as I sat there, crying. "I'm sorry." I put down the potion I had bought. Fingers clasping the cold fingers of my friend, wishing that my warmth would warm her again.

Now my body seems to move on its own. I find myself at the garden where the trees lay. We had turned this into one of the southern gardens for Ruby's comfort, but in the midst of all this change I kept one thing.

The soft mound that made up her grave was still noticeable. It is near the lake. The roses I left her are still here, withered and brown. I kneel down and touch the stone marking.

I'm sorry I didn't stay. I didn't see you before you died. I'm sorry I didn't find it in time. I'm sorry I can't see you smiling at my achievements. Being the one who initiated all the parties and told me after she'd done so. I'm sorry.
