Tord Headcanons | The Stoic One

Let's start with his physical appearance!

My Tord has pale skin, since he is from Norway and doesn't get a lot of sun.

His hair is naturally that dark brown color that we see in Classic, but he dyes it the caramel brown color from Legacy- though, sometimes he can be seen with dark brown roots when he needs to touch up the dye.

My Tord has silver eyes, and I often describe them as piercing or being able to see through people. I think his eyes are one of the most unnerving parts of Tord, and makes people uncomfortable.

No facial hair- he shaves it if it starts to get stubbly.

Tord is the second tallest in my timeline, standing at 6'4 (I like my boys inhumanely tall). Edd is the only one taller than him and it pisses Tord off to no end.

I like to think Tord has the most athletic build of the group, being the military oriented one. He's not skinny and he doesn't have painfully unnatural muscles like you'd see in magazines. Think more along the lines of Chris Evans or Sebastian Stan. (Also has the juiciest man tiddies) Tord would alternate between going to the gym in the morning and going on morning runs through the neighborhood. He runs more often during the winter, since he's always thrived in cold weather. If Reader also liked working out or was interested in starting, he'd gladly let them join him. I think he'd even teach them self defense if they asked.

Because I think Tord would have some connection to his cultural roots, my Tord has a small tattoo of Yggdrasil on his collarbone, and an even smaller protection rune on one of his wrists. He has a piercing hole in one of his ears that he sometimes wears a simple black stud in; he got it pierced during his emo phase in high school.

Family life:

Tord is an older brother is one younger sister. He practically raised her until he moved out.

His dad was Red Leader before him and put him through intense training. Turned him into a child soldier. Resents his dad for it all.

Only time he ever argued with his dad is when he tried to give his sister the same training- Tord refused to let him.

Worst thing his dad ever did was make Tord do wilderness survival for 3 nights in a Norwegian forest. He was 12.

A Eurasian Lynx managed to find him, but he got away with only claw marks on his back. He's still got the scars.

He doesn't hate his mother, but he's not particularly close with her. Because his training started from such a young age, he spent most of his childhood around his father and other high ranking soldiers.

Cares a lot about his little sister and travels home to see her once or twice a year.

Now, personality:

My Tord is very apathetic sometimes, but mainly is just kind of calm and chill.

He likes to say that he'd rather be with his machines and inventions than other humans, but that's a bullshit lie and he's just being dramatic

Prefers being quiet, doesn't say a lot unless its under specific circumstances or he has commentary to give. He enjoys listening to Reader ramble endlessly, or just have her in his arms while he silently does some task.

He switched from cigarettes to vapes after a while, since its better than smoking and has more flavors available.

Likes energy drinks more than coffee, enjoys the variety they offer.

Actually pretty good at cooking, he'd cook for himself and his sister when his parents were busy with work.

Way smarter than he looks. If he had to take the ACT, he'd probably get a nearly perfect score.

A STEM girlie. He uses the garage as his workshop and spends most of the day there (not counting weekends).

Absolutely has a motorcycle in the garage. He rides it if he's having a low day and needs to get away. Has a special route that takes him the long way through the city before ending up at the cliff overlooking the neighborhood (the one we see in The End). Takes Reader on that route to cheer her up or clear her head. One time they fell asleep on the cliff and woke up to several calls from Edd, Tom, and Matt, who were all scared shitless.

Never gets cold. If someone comments on it, he says its "nothing compared to Norwegian cold." (The others are all tired of hearing that and roll their eyes)

Despite this, he's not dumb. He knows how to stay warm and how important it is. Will scold Reader for not wearing enough layers.

His music taste is so mixed up and wild that nobody can give it a name.

Probably reads the most out of the four, will never tell you what he's reading.

Gets angry about historical inaccuracies.

Not allowed to play Trivial Pursuit because he knows a bunch of random facts.

"Kill yourself." "This is why we can't have nice things."

Likes Super Smash Brothers and can create ass kicking combos for any character in a couple of rounds.

He works as a mechanical/chemical engineer. Works independently by taking commissions for blueprints and fixing machines for people. He mostly works at home in the garage but very rarely has to go to another location. He prefers to have the client talk to him over the phone or meet him.

Likes Liquid Death Mountain Water.

Smokes cigars occasionally, usually on special events.

Smells like smoky wood and vanilla.

Does some art every so often, but not as often as Edd.

I love your art! Do you jave any tips ondrawing in the EENE artstyle?

Thank you!! The best advice I have is to study, study, and then study some more lol. Look at something, try to replicate it, trace over the original to see the underlying shapes, draw the shapes on your own page and replicate it like that, freehand it w/o reference, just see what works! i know it sounds like general advice, but the EENE style, especially once you get to later seasons,is very stylistically and technically complex! You're gonna have to see which aspects of it are intuitive to you, and which ones you'll have to sit down and make yourself learn. I primarily use Raven Molisee's art (lots of stuff on Deviantart and Poshmark more recently) since with his sketches you can see a lot of the underlying shapes and processes! But it would be a good idea to also check out stuff from the rest of the art department, such as Scott Underwood, Jim Miller, and Cory Toomey (you can find a list of em here: https://ed.fandom.com/wiki/The_Creators). Instagram account dawn_of_the_eds has a lot of good references!

You can also study screenshots of the show, especially if you're trying to replicate the colors/linework/movement/etc… I would recommend @ededdneddy-artrefs, as they have a nice tagging system for finding anything specific, but its also a good idea to just look at your favorite EENE clips on YouTube and go thru them frame-by-frame! It helps with understanding how the characters move, talk, express, etc… and you can really nail down the stuff you'd only get a vague idea of from watching the show at a normal speed.

For me, it took me months (minus some breaks) to get to where i am now with drawing the Eds. Someone more studious and hardworking could easily do it faster, but the point is, it takes practice! Practice combined with active, intentional learning! My progress with drawing the Eds has several phases marked by a sudden jump in skill (usually caused by me finally going out and studying some more art, and internalizing what i learned), followed by healthy stagnation, where i get comfortable with the new knowledge and just do the same stuff for a while. If you really wanna get good at drawing them, you can study much more than i do, or have shorter stagnation periods! It's ok to calm down and get comfortable with the characters, have some nice, easy, art making time, its important to not get too stressed or burnt out! But when you're feeling motivated, absolutely take advantage of that!

Some things to remember:

While the characters do have consistent design elements and basic underlying shapes, these are NOT hard rules. REMEMBER AND INTERNALIZE SQUASH N STRETCH! I've tried assigning hard rules to how I draw the eds, and it's VERY difficult. It's definitely important to write down/point out as many design quirks and reoccurring themes/shapes as possible, but just remember that the Ed Edd n Eddy style is extremely fluid and dynamic - and the guidelines you may have thought were 100% true can be shattered at any point. Basically: all rules are optional! Don't draw something because the "rules" say so, draw something because it looks good! Sometimes one rule looks good, sometimes something else looks better! I'll use the teeth as a visual example:

Sort of a continuation of the last point - Before EENE, I had a tendency (and still kinda do) to use more symbolic drawing process, the kind of design language you'd use for logos or graffiti, or the kind of style you see in shows like Dexter's lab or Total Drama Island or something - where you get good at drawing the same shapes/lines over and over. The EENE style, especially in later seasons, does not follow the same process as these sorts of styles. For example, I used to look at Edd and say "ok, His head is THESE TWO SHAPES!" And then there would be another, I'd say "okay, 3" and then another, and another and this will keep going on and on and on. Sometimes his ears are at the corners of whatever quadrilateral his head is (like in Molisse's art), sometimes theyre on an edge (like ive seen in Underwood's art), and sometimes you just can't see em! You have to accept that the characters are a lot of things at once, and different things at different times! Like Eddys head is usually a sort of bent pentagon - but is his mouth is enough he's more like a tin-can - but from a more top view he's almost a triangle - you can do this cycle forever.

you can think about it like this: the eds designs (especially their faces) are sort of a collection of features, and the shapes holding them together than be molded and distorted as you please!

Remember that the eds often exist with 3D underlying shapes, not just flat ones! I would highly recommend studying 3d shapes in extreme perspectives specifically. Draw bent cylinders, twisted stretched out cubes, any sort of shape at the most extreme fish-eye perspective you can manage, just absolutely take advantage of them. Bend and distort and break those shapes, dig your foot into their backs and and pull at their corners like you're ripping the arms out of their sockets. Extreme visualization, I know, but Ed Edd n Eddy is a slapstick comedy - there is immense force and stretching and distortion present, you really have to get that energy into your art to replicate the style (even if I'm not great at it yet, it's something I know I must learn).

Specific tidbit that's important & I sometimes forget: The characters limbs can be as long as the pose calls for! They will be fine! If they're holding something above their head, their arms are going to stretch out much longer than normal and it's ok! You can always sacrifice the "accuracy" to the model to get a strong pose/silhouette. Though one thing I've noticed is that their clothes often don't stretch the same way their bodies do! If you stretch double D's arms out 3 yards, his sleeves are gonna be about the same length as always! Except for when it looks better to break this rule, of course :3 basically imagine their bodies are like stretchy rubber, while their clothes are not

Apologies on my lack of notes on Ed specifically, I've drawn him good a total of One time and haven't been able to do it again lol.... Sometimes his head is an upside down triangle, but its bent in a way that i cant find a good pattern to remember it by... though sometimes his head is a square but the bottom stretches downward to become his neck. He's weird as hell, one day ill figure it out!

ok since four people wanted it, headcanons! for the main four, I'll probably do more for the other characters later.

Edd! Full name, Edward "Edd" G. Sworld

A silly guy! He was born human, though he doesn't count himself as one anymore after the dose of his neighbors' weird satellite. He's still got powers, though it takes a while for them to properly return and he isn't the best at controlling him.

5'11/~180 cm and fat, but he loves himself. Big bear man.

Aroace spec, he's demiromantic and biromantic, but he's just asexual.

His main source of income is from commissions as he never actually went to an art school and has trouble getting full-time work. He does have a secret account for his little hero work when his powers start working and sometimes gets money from people who admire him.

He was the proper start of the friendgroup and the only reason the others stay together.

Did I hear someone say heterochromia? He used to only have pale brown eyes, but now a light green ring is around his pupils due to his powers.

Closest reference I have to how he looks in my mind: @/thepolysworldau has the best reference IMO. He just feels right.

Matt! Full name, Matthew "Matt" Doll

He wasn't always stupid, he just lost it for a while after being bit by a vampire :sob:. He didn't have a consistent source of blood intake and that's what made him a bit airheaded.

6'6/~198 cm, stringbean ahh looking fucker. He looks like he could be broken in half like dry pasta.

He's pan through and through, though he prefers the colors on the bi flag. Still, he feels pan is a better label for him so he sticks with it.

Went through the gender exploration phase after he got bit by the vampire but ultimately realized that yeah, he's a man, just fairly nonconforming at times with his style and he really likes makeup.

This man has freckles!!! There more prominent due to his skin not having as much pigment to it anymore, but he likes them so he's not upset.

He also used to have heterochromia! One eye was green, the other was blue, but now they're both red because of the whole vampire thing. His hair's also a slightly more red color now, he just dyes it to be more orange like it used to be.

Closest reference to how he looks in my mind: @/starrixle's Matt design is PEAK (all different images except for the last two words)

Tom! Full name, Thomas "Tom" Bromel

Monster Tom my beloved, but I do NOT vibe with the canon monster design, it's so ugly :sob:. I vibe more with @/albi-finch-blog's design. It can go between the bigger and smaller forms, fully depends on how well he's doing mentally.

The only transgender in the group, he's also a demiboy (he/they/it pronouns, am i projecting a bit maybe i am)

The shortest in the group at 5'3/~160 cm. It doesn't help that they keep slouching. Also definitely on the heavier side.

Its eyes are because of its monster heritage, which came from their mother's side. His dad is just French.

Is he unhealthily attached to Susan? Yes, yes he is. In his defense, Susan was part of his major teenage rebellion phase before he left to live with his friends.

Bisexual, preference for men though.

Closest reference to how he looks in my mind: For his half-shifted form, i feel @/battyratzz's works the best, but for him just being human? I feel @/422kit's design works best.

The only human of the group. Debatably so later on but shhhh.

For a while he was around 6'/~183 cm, but after his return he was like, freakishly tall (taller than Matt) and he just kept getting taller until WTFuture timeline (there is a reason for this i promise).

He of course came from Norway but his parents divorced early on and he spent time between the UK and Norway (like, every few months he'd switch places) until his father won full custody of him and he stayed in the UK from when he was around 7 to his early 20s, when he left.

He hasn't picked a label for himself and he doesn't really want to, he just knows he likes men and women and maybe other people it really just depends on their aesthetic.

LONG GREASY HAIR AHH WASH YOUR GODDAMN HAIR BRO UGH. Also naturally very dark-haired, but he dyed it a more caramel color for a while until after he got a bit blown up.

He's OBSESSED with inventing things, has been since he was a kid. Little science kid but engineering was his calling and he's been building for a long time.

Closest reference to how he looks in my mind: To me his style came in eras. He looked like @/pond-child-edd's design for a while until his 20s, became @/anonymousjackalope's design from when he left to a bit after he got explodicated, and then ended up as @/lexisgayok's design but with dark hair and a mask.

Tord and Edd dated when they were younger, from around 14 to 16 I think. They ended up realizing it just wouldn't work so they broke it off but stayed friends.

Matt was the one who bought the house they all lived in because his parents were actually loaded and didn't care about how he used the money since he was normal enough to avoid some danger.

Tom did not join the friendgroup willingly, he got dragged in kicking and screaming by Edd and never escaped.

Tord ALSO didn't join entirely willingly, but Edd was the only kid who talked to him when he first started living part-time in the UK and he didn't like being alone.

Matt's been crushing on Edd since they were ten and was HELLA JEALOUS of Tord. He still is, but he's let it go enough.

Tom would regularly bite Tord for various reasons up until he moved out. They nearly bit him again when he moved back in.

Tom's bad at emotions, especially handling attraction. His first relationship was with Laurel but they weren't the best at being a couple, his second was with Bully (yknow, from the beach episode) (it was very unhealthy but he thought it was fun), and his last relationship came years after with Tord (it'd been sitting on unresolved feelings for a long time and only really realized after Bully that the feelings he felt for Tord were attraction).

Once Ringo got out of the house while Tord was home alone and Edd was supposed to be gone for a week visiting family, so Tord literally built a fake Ringo from scratch before finding her literal hours before Edd came back. Now there are two Ringos and Tord kept the robo-Ringo when he left.

Edd and Matt ended up starting a relationship not long before the proper start of the WTFuture timeline happened, they were walking to where they would've had a date when the Red Army invaded.

Tom was home alone with Ringo when it happened. She'd been sick and he took the day off work to watch her. Both Tom and Ringo got taken by the Red Army early on.

Cartoon Network Friday Spotlight: Ed, Edd n' Eddy- "Every Which Way but Ed"

Twenty five years ago yesterday, Ed, Edd n' Eddy first aired! I seriously believe that the one two punch of this and The Powerpuff Girls, premiering within a month and a half of each other, is what pushed Cartoon Network into the place to watch for fans of animation.

The former, a refinement of what the new Hanna-Barbera crew were doing with Dexter's Laboratory and Johnny Bravo into the ultimate version of itself, while the latter was a rejection of the soon-to-become Cartoon Network Studios method and its adherence to HB and UPA's art styles and influence, aiming for a more striking balance of classic and contemporary animation. Powerpuff Girls showed what the CN crew could do, while EEnE proved why some outside influence was necessary. And of course, both shows became massive hits that redefined the network for the coming decade and beyond.

What episode should I talk about? I decided to go with this season 5 classic, which feels like an early attempt to ease fans into the changes for the show's last full run by staying away from school and proudly boasting its new digital coloring. That's probably why this aired before the real season premiere, "Out with the Old... in with the Ed", which set up the return to the school year, although I would've swapped the first half, "Mission Ed-Possible" (another classic, albeit one that messes with continuity) with another class-less episode.

But enough rambling. This story is almost entirely flashback based, similarly to season 4's mock clipshow "The Good Ol' Ed", except this time the memories are real, just not familiar to the audience. We see details like how Plank got the chip on his block, how Jimmy busted his teeth, and Nazz's "big" phase. All good stuff, leading to memorable bits (who can forget Ed's "you bet your sweet bippy I did" and the automatic response), but the centerpiece is saved for last.

Baby Eds! We get to see how the boys met each other for the first time, as seen above, and it's the cutest thing. We get there with some classic cartoon violence and the show's ever-wild sense of humor, things that I'll never take lightly. This show remains as entertaining as ever 25 years on, and I bet the same will be true when we hit the big 5-0. I hope you all agree!

New theme song! With vocals AND lyrics :D

This one was largely inspired by Massive Attack and their album "Mezzanine" which I listened to on loop while working on backgrounds for VN. Very different vibes compared to the old theme XD I might make a tamer version for the actual main menu.

So as was with the old theme, the guys are each represented by instruments.

Edd is the lead synth (Cat is another synth that supports him), percussion/drums and all the SFX and weird noises on the background. He's got the most presence overall cuz it's his world. He's the glue that ties it all together.

Tom is the bass. He's mostly on the back but he's nearly ever present with the richest widest sound and can be heard most when others shut up lol.

Matt is the keys. He's got his own solo part, in the bridge. In the chorus him and Edd play the same notes one after the other, as if trying to get the upper hand. Most noticeable when each of their parts are playing louder.

Tord is the guitar playing the bass notes, in the chorus. This wasn't exactly intentional but his instrument chiming in only in the chorus is almost a reference to him not doing much talking. Also, in the first half, it's playing relatively normal, but in the second half, there's a lot more legatos and sliding up and down, as if he's letting himself get a bit more lose, dropping his usual class pres persona

Overall with this song I wanted something extremely textured, like a dozen of kittens purring into the ears XD I don't know why but textured songs with lots of sounds are becoming my jam lately.

It's less reliant on Eddsworld's jingle now, able to stand on its own. Though I couldn't help myself and sneaked a reference to it in the verse, the last four notes playing by the lead.

I've written a ton this year btw. I just haven't been posting because I'm trying to finish multiple very long stories before I start posting them just so they will for sure get finished. My goal is to be a lot more active on this blog this summer.

ANYWAY, going back to the good old days of posting "goals" I wish to achieve, here are some things I'm hoping to finish/start this year.

THINGS TO FINISH:

Sunset, Moonrise. Top of my priority list right now because the Spooky Month brainrot has sunk in so severely again after the new episode released.

The next two installments of my Epithet Erased series, which I have decided to start calling The Convergence AU. I've actually been working on these on and off for a year now. The first is a one shot that I just keep revising and revising and should probably just post, and it's called "It'll Be Okay," and its the AUs version of Giovanni "kidnapping" Molly at the end of PoP. The other is called Waking Nightmare, and it's Lorelai-focused, but naturally there's a lot of Sylvie in it too because I can't help but pop him into situations.

Heroes (And How Not to Assign Them). Just finish all of it.

I've been working on a Villainous series about Dark Phantom and Ghoul for about a year now. It's called Name of My Own and currently I have 5/8 fics in the series finished, and have begun to write the 6th one.

I've also been working on a small series about Caine from the Amazing Digital Circus, so I'm hoping to have some of that stuff out by the end of the year.

It's Dangerous Not to Feel Loved, my Adventure Time fic, will be finished sometime this year as well. I have four more chapters proper to write, and then all that's left will be posting a revisions. I'll probably post another chapter here very soon.

I started by never finished a character study for Khan from Murder Drones, so I'm hoping to finish that too, since I've been tinkering around with some ideas recently, given the new episode.

I'm like 2 chapters away from finishing the first installment to a silly little Rayman fic series. It's just kind of a remix of the original stories taking the aspects of the different lores I like and mashing them all up together. Also: OCs.

A Captain Laserhawk fic about Ramon, Bullfrog, and the clone Rayman. Because Bullfrog is so so so beloved to me. So far there's 3ish chapters finished and I don't know how long it'll be. Maybe 5 or six chapters long? Not too much more to go though; it's about halfway done.

THINGS TO START

I've been working on a crossover between The Amazing Digital Circus and The Pink City (another show by Gooseworx) and I'm hoping to get the first installment out sometime this year, but I will at least be starting it. It's going to be called The Pink Digital City (creative, I know /sarcasm).

I want to write more Spooky Month. Maybe something about Roy and the Cult because I love those "Roy in the Cult" AUs.

Might do something about a Spooky Month OC I've got, too.

Super early in the planning phases still, but I'd like to start the next installment of The Convergence AU after I finished Waking Nightmare. It'll focus on Crusher.

The next chapter of Operation: E.P.I.T.H.E.T.

More Pokemon crossover things, particularly more for the South Park crossover and actually getting something for the Ed, Edd, n Eddy AU I keep talking about finished and out there.

Since I’m still stuck at work and cant do anything, I thought it would be fun to post my drawing process for my semi-serious style, using the latest fanart I did with Edd and Edu but only featuring Edd :3c Maybe one day I’ll make a speedpaint but thats not today. If you’re curious, one by one below the line + me talking about the process (as best I can)

1. Preliminary sketch. These are my roughs, this is the start after I had my brainstorm and planning phase. I’ve found all my references and did the pose myself as well so I know what it feels like and if its bodily possible. 2. Clean sketch. This is where I loosely put in all the nitty-gritty, where the folds are, details of the hair, etc etc. I change the pencil colour so I can differentiate certain parts. 3. Line art. Like it says on the tin, but for my semi-serious style I tend to avoid lining folds because I prefer to paint them in this style. 4. Grey out. I need this layer so that I don’t get blinded/confused when I lay down the colours,

5. Flats. So all the colours needed, usually when I draw backgrounds they would also depend on the lighting, so I would colorize them if needed, but for standalones I just put in the basic colours. 6. Soft shadows. I tend to use multiply layers for this step, but sometimes I also do normal layers, in case I feel as though the colour should be more relative to its surroundings since multiply wont let me do that. It all depends on how I want the shadows to feel on the piece, but when I’m lazy I just do multiply (lol). Soft shadows also include the colour on the planes of the face, so = yellow for forehead, red for middle, blue for the lower part aka jaw area. Of course also the reds on the skin in other areas like elbows and knees, but since Edd is fully clothed, its just the tip and inner part of his ear, and the tips of his fingers. 7. Hard shadows and minor highlights. For my style, I gear more towards a watercolour style kind of shading, so I follow that principle when I decide where to put and how to render my shadows. Typically I have at minimum 4 layers for this type of hard shadow shading. The minor highlights here are just the lights in the pupil, and a soft large airbrush going over the spaces where shadows cant reach. 8. Missing details and overlay highlights. Near the end I put in all the little details I missed, so in here its Edd’s 5 o’clock shadow, and some scuffs and scrapes on his clothing and shoes. The overlay highlights are super subtle but make the drawing feel a bit more alive, for me at least, these highlights are the ones on the “bumps” of the clothing folds, and the hair highlights.

9. Hard highlights and atmospheric lights. The finale! This is where I just put in the brighter, harder, highlights in places they should be, and then clip a Luminosity/Overlay layer on top of the entire drawing, using a large soft brush I go over the drawing to put a bit more brightness into it. And there! Thats how I render in my semi-serious artstyle. But...eh, dont be fooled, I know this step by step makes it look like I would jump around all the parts of the drawing and render things equally, sadly thats far from the truth. My perfectionism flares up badly and it often leads to me obsessing over a singular part before moving on, so the process would look more like this:

Strawberry Ed

Strawberry Ed forever………..I know, wrong band that had an experimental phase. 

As I eventually made an Ed-MV with a Coldplay song, this time, I immediately made another one. This is another one that has our favourite boys with the same name going on a quest, as well as fight against other secondary characters. But what I’m trying to convey with this AMV is how we would go on adventures in our youth, and how we imagined them as much grander and epic than they actually were. We embark on finding certain treasures while we were making truthful discoveries. But also how we grow older and end up trying to find that childhood wonder and something to hope for; even when days get darker. 

Viva la Vida (Death and All his Friends) was an experimental piece from the band that also had a vintage aesthetic. As time goes on, we should acknowledge how instrumental this album was in this band’s career, as well as the alternative music scene as a whole. It was an album that took inspiration from a lot of sources, in turn, generations were inspired by it. I made this video with a similar mindset, to showcase the impact it left on me. It practically gave me a reason to live. I hope to keep exploring interesting techniques and find that inner bliss.

Pregnancy Due Date (EDD) Calculator: How is the due date calculated?

You have just had a positive pregnancy test. What’s one of the first things you want to know? We bet, one of the first things you want to find out is when will you see your little bundle of joy for the first time!

As a pregnant woman (or even if you are trying to get pregnant), the terms Pregnancy Due Date or Estimated Due Date or Estimated Date of Delivery ( EDD as it is more frequently referred to) will come up quite often for you. The pregnancy due date indicates the estimated delivery date for a pregnant woman. While doctors and the medical team need to know the EDD for various medical and logistical reasons, it is only natural that once the pregnancy test is positive, one of the first things expectant parents would want to know is when their baby will be born.

Why is it important to know one’s EDD?

Knowing the EDD, allows the parents to prepare for the baby – mentally, logistically and financially.

Along with letting you look forward to seeing and holding your baby, the estimated due date also helps in many other ways. There are many essential phases in a pregnancy that require an expected due date of delivery and therefore make an EDD calculator a crucial tool:

The doctor uses the EDD to assess the progress of the pregnancy. 

It’s also used to check the growth of the foetus as per its age. 

There are tests and scans that are scheduled based on the EDD

The EDD is used to calculate whether a birth is pre (before 37 weeks), early (37-38 weeks), full (39-40 weeks), late (week 41) or post term (week 42 or after). This helps to expect, and manage any complications that could arise from a baby coming too early or a pregnancy continuing into late or post term. 

EDD Calculation Methods

A pregnancy usually lasts about 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of your last menstrual period (also called LMP) to your due date. A Pregnancy Due Date Calculator helps you estimate your due date. The calculator could use different methods to run a calculation of your EDD. The most commonly used method is the LMP (Last menstrual period) method. Other methods could be based on the date of your last ultrasound scan or the conception date, or the IVF 3-day or 5-day transfer date.

LMP method

On average, pregnancies are 40 weeks long from the first day of the last menstrual cycle, so you could just take a calendar and count to 40 weeks from the first day you last got your period and that would give you your EDD.

Conception date method

In some cases (if you are diligently tracking your ovulation) you might know the exact date of conception. You can then calculate your due date by adding 266 days to your conception date to get your pregnancy due date.

IVF 3-day or 5-day transfer date method

If you conceived through IVF (in vitro fertilization), you can reach your due date using the transfer date. If your embryo transfer was done on day 3 of fertilization add 263 days and if the transfer was done on day 5 then add 261 days to the transfer date to get your EDD.

Ultrasound scan method

If you don’t have any of the information that we have listed above, worry not! Your doctor can help calculate the EDD during your first prenatal appointment.

When you suspect you are pregnant or get that positive line on your pregnancy test, book an appointment with your gynecologist for an ultrasound. Early ultrasounds are an excellent way to get to the EDD. The ultrasound can be used to determine the gestational age of the fetus and you can then calculate the EDD by adding the remaining days to get to 40 weeks.

Some things to keep in mind

It’s important to understand that one doesn’t necessarily get pregnant on the date of being sexually active. The egg fertilisation may take place upto 6 days after. That’s why the pregnancy due date calculator is recommended by experts to know your due date, which considers many factors before calculation. Your ultrasound tests will help you reveal the progress of the foetus.

You will find many pregnancy due date calculators online. All you have to do is to pick the calculation method, enter the relevant date and Voila! you will have your EDD. For e.g. if you pick the menstrual period calculation method, the calculator will need the first day of your last period and your cycle length (which could be more or less than 28 days). The duration of the pregnancy is usually 37 weeks to 42 weeks from the first day of a woman’s last period. 

Remember that each pregnancy is unique and whatever the result from the calculator, it’s just an estimate and should not be taken as a fixed date. Babies, even in the womb, have a mind of their own and could decide to ignore the precious EDD you seem to cling to and live by during your pregnancy. They could come earlier or decide to enjoy their cozy little home for longer. So mama, go with the flow. It’s good practise for all the uncertainty that follows once the baby is finally in your arms.

I thought I was just passively watching Ed, Edd, n’ Eddy/ignoring its existence (when I was younger I had a “phase” where I acted like I didn’t care about cartoons without animal people [this did not include anime, don’t ask me why]). Genuinely if you are someone who loves early / classic spongebob i HIGHLY recommend camp lazlo. Its a ton of the same team working on it so its not only comedically similar but visually simular, auditorially similar (they even use the same sound bank so a lot of the same bgm from spongebob is present!), its artstyle is visually similar, and the voice cast has TOM KENNY AND DR LAWRENCE who voice a TON of the characters

I’d recommend it too if you’re interested in anything like this: shows about kids having fun and hanging out (ed edd & eddy, phineas and ferb, big city greens), shows with relentlessly optimistic leads (spongebob again, wander over yonder), and shows with a very gay “bad guy” + henchmen duo (kirby right back at ya, the simpsons, wander over yonder [double points for double tom kenny])

Idk why this show is so largely forgotten now, it’s got the hysterical humor of early spongebob including some great stuff that they kind of phased out like using real images within the show + it has the benefit of beinf on CN instead of Nick which allows a little more leeway in creativity in some ways.

The cast of characters is incredibly solid, as the shows been progressing more and more of the supporting cast have been getting episodes where we get to take a further look into them and develop them more, and even the characters that don’t serve a role beyond being the background characters still end up hilarious and taking on more of a role as the show progresses.

Also i know this is a low bar but like Can we talk about how well executed the Squirrel Scouts are? Like they’re normal ass camp girls. They like playing in mud and unicorns. Nina loves sci-fi Patty is a hopeless romantic and Gretchen has anger issues. And they all love high adreneline camp girl scout shenanigains. They’re NORMAL ASS GIRLS!!! Like yes the bar is low for me to be saying like YAY FHEY WERENT MISOGYNISTIC but like its such a refreshing thing to see especially in 2000s cartoons. A lot of time girl characters in shows in this era just feel like The girl characrersand thats it but theyre allowed to have varied interests and act like actual kids do.

Actually like for a 2000s cartoon CL is pretty good about gender roles and stuff. The only one who cares thaf Edward has a doll is himself. No one even makes fun of him for it they even plau with her too!! But hes just self concious and toxicly masculine so hes ashamed. And the joke of eds benedict never is “haha he cant lay an egg hes a boy” no one even questions that part until the end and at the end its not even hahah hes a boy its Haha slinkman and lumpus have jusf been asked how sex works by the campers. And when they all dress up as girls in that one episode and everyone hypes edward up…. Like i think part of it is hinestly bc of lazlos overwhelming positiveity that it would be hypocritical if they werent being nice about all thaf kind of stuff Bc Lazlo doesnt xare. He loves everyone
