Today was oddly dark, you had decided to go out on a brisk walk until you began to hear a voice that had travelled through the wind, it was singing, and oddly enough, it had power behind it, the voice seemed to be becoming you over as you could not help but to curiously make your way over to the sound,
That was when you saw it. A cookie singing to herself, alone. Did you recognize her? Regardless, the voice sounded like something that a loving mother would sing to their child if they needed to calm down...

The singing died off quickly the moment she looked over and saw you staring at her, she could only see a pair of eyes from the shaded spot you were hiding in.
There was an awkward silence as she looked rather startled that you found her, her expression changed again, realizing what she must of done, it looked like she felt a bit guilty for luring you in unintentionally.

She then looked back up to get a better look at who it was
"I know you're hiding, please show yourself, I won't hurt you."

The metronome that had been counting the rhythm in your earpiece ⏤ disturbing you, if anything else ⏤ finally ceased as the last notes of your song faded away in a transition which you did not notice, too busy catching your breath. The spotlight faded for a few moments, giving you just enough time to take three big gulps of water, which dripped down your lips to your throat and cleavage, already wet with perspiration.
It was hot on stage. Too hot, you thought, wiping your forehead with a brush of your forearm. The spotlights would turn an autumn evening into a summer afternoon by the sheer force of their light, almost as if the sun itself were trapped in those damned bulbs. The heat did nothing to ease the heaviness of your limbs, exhausted by two intense hours of dancing, singing, sometimes both at the same time. Your legs, arms, and back were aching terribly, but you showed nothing. Why complain about a career you had chosen? As they said, the show must go on.
The cheerful shouts of the crowd gradually brought you out of your trance, though your chest continued to heave rapidly as the spotlights dazzled you. You squinted for a moment, getting used to the artificial daylight again, punctuated by a pixelated starry sky woven by the phones’ flashes.
“Usually, this is the point in the show where I announce that this was the last song…”
You laughed at the reaction of the fans, who were quick to boo you when they realized the enchanted interlude that was this concert was coming to an end. The worries of everyday life, left at the entrance of the stadium, were only waiting for the last note to come back and slump on everyone's shoulders, yours included.
“… But today, because we are in Nice, and because this city is special to me, I have decided to sing a song for you that is just as special. This may be the only time you hear it, so enjoy.”
An assistant brought an acoustic guitar and a stool. No one could see your fingers shaking as you adjusted the microphone stand, anxious at the mere thought of making a false note, of ruining what was supposed to be perfect. Hours and hours of secret rehearsals had brought you to this moment. You would not fuck up something so important to you, to him, was going to fall flat.
“Hm. So… Yeah, this is dedicated to a special someone in the crowd.”
It was hard, but you managed not to turn your head towards the VIP section of the pit, isolated at the front, and far more visible than anything else in the Stade Allianz Riviera. The phones were focused on you, on your every move, reminding you that every second of the concert would be analysed and posted on Twitter within the hour, before being relayed hundreds of thousands of times. That was precisely why, tonight, the music would speak for you, and the notes would replace the words you were not allowed to chant out loud.
Unveiling without saying too much.
Private but not secret.
In your earpiece, the metronome resumed its rhythm, but this time you welcomed it. Like Odysseus and the sirens, the first notes of the song blurred your senses and plunged you into a melodic trance in which only a silhouette stood out. The first words were shakily sung, and you immediately cursed your stress, or perhaps your stupid heart, which was beating furiously in your chest, catching up with the heady metronome. A new rhythm that had begun tuning with another.
Young love was beautiful, so beautiful it inspired poetry.
You were no Hugo, nor Lamartine, nor even a Shakespeare. In your verses, no iambic pentameters, no embracing rhymes; simply the raw evidence of blossoming love, even as the leaves of the trees gradually turned orange.
As the first words rang out, you thought back to that damn crossed-out page, its words never suitable enough to explain the unexplainable. How to describe love? Some had succeeded, with rough metaphors, comparisons to nature, to art. You, faced with the white sheet of paper, with the image of two large green eyes in your mind, found yourself speechless, wordless, unable to put into phrases the love you felt for Charles.
“Love,” a word you had not yet uttered. Too soon to do so, some said. You simply thought that “I love you” was not strong enough.
Your head swayed gently to the rhythm of the strings strummed by your ⏤ still shaky ⏤ fingers, eyebrows furrowed. The low, slow, melodious sound echoed through the speakers and into the hearts of the entire crowd. You just hoped it would touch his.
In the middle of this shapeless mass of people, you could only see him, dazzling in his white shirt. The spotlight didn't allow you to see the expression painted on his face, but nights spent admiring him allowed you to imagine it without any problem: his ears flushed, his mouth folded inwards to avoid seeing them tremble, his fingers playing with his ring…
He'd been to all concerts since the beginning of your relationship ⏤ a few weeks before ⏤ following you to Los Angeles for a festival, to Italy for a concert, without ever hesitating once. Here in Nice ⏤ so close to Monaco ⏤ everything was special. His presence tasted of home.
In the middle of thousands of people, he was the only soul that mattered.
Tears ⏤ an overflow of love at his sight ⏤ rose and rolled down your cheeks one by one. He was your most beautiful verse, your most beautiful arpeggio, the last sound added to the harmony that made up your life.
On this stage, the melody of love resounded, until the last chorus:
Qu’est-ce que j’irais faire au paradis Quand tu t’endors près de moi?  Qu’ils le donnent à d’autres, le paradis Je n’en voudrais pas* 
Déjà vu: the metronome stopped, the lights went out, the water was thirstily gulped. This time, however, nothing was turned back on. Applause and shouts rang out, making the floor tremble, or perhaps it was your legs, both tired and relieved.
An assistant guided you backstage. The microphone was taken away, the earpiece as well. A towel was passed around to dry your forehead, back, and thighs. Your heart was beating hard, so hard that you thought it was trying to escape from your rib cage and lodge itself in your temples.
It was finally over. You had done it. You had sung his song.
Five people tried to talk to you, debrief the concert, make changes, but you didn't care, your attention no longer on them since he had entered the room.
A hazel spot in the middle of the black-dressed staff. His eyes were red, as was the tip of his nose. Furrows of tears marked his cheeks but contrasted with the blinding smile he gave you. Your heart skipped a beat, the mere sight of his figure triggering a wave of affection.
You immediately threw yourself into his arms, breathing in his Dior perfume, his musky scent, the aroma of tobacco: a smell that was so unapologetically him.
“Did you like the song?” you asked with a small voice, your head buried in his chest.
He pressed his hand against your head, pulling you even closer to him, as if he wanted your two bodies to become one. His lips pressed against your forehead, and did not let go, even when he spoke: “I adored it, mon ange.”
The tremolo of his voice spoke for him, his wet tone doing nothing to hide his emotion. Charles spoke little, chose his words carefully, did not waste them on wordy periphrases. Thus, he did not exclaim, did not dwell on explanations that would spoil the intimate atmosphere. He merely whispered these simple words with all the tenderness in the world, filling your heart, which was already on the verge of giving out from all the attention you were getting from him.
“Je t'aime.”
Your breath caught in your throat at his three little words, whispered as if they were second-nature to him. His chest vibrated with his laughter, purely in adoration of your reaction, before he took your face in his hands to kiss you tenderly. More tears joined the first you had shed on stage, but you ignored them, content, in love.
“Je t'aime aussi.”
He swayed both your bodies gently, never loosening his embrace, never taking his lips off your skin. Around you, the staff was already packing up to make room for the next day's performer, but you did not care. In the frenzied tempo of life, your sweet melody played off-beat.

There’s something so tempting about the things that you know you’ll never have. Like the sugary sweets forbidden to you in childhood, or the sweet allure of danger in adolescence.
Humans were always driven by their instinct to disobey, to pursue the things they knew they shouldn’t, to love the things that were wrong to love.
And you were no different. You were adopting their ways, you yourself were becoming human.
Because maybe you, too, wanted the one thing you knew you would never have: Park Jimin.
You never meant for him to become such a force. You never intended to have this inclination for danger, this longing for affection—it just so happened that with every whisper of his breath, every flutter of his hair, every blink of his lashes, you found yourself more deeply entrenched in the weight of your affection, in the euphoria of loving him.
His sweet voice brought life to you, a creature who thrived on musicality, on rhythm, to survive. He evened the scales of life, a sweet crescendo in a climate of bass, a gentle uptick in a world of gloom.
He became your pillar, drawing you in and taking you out. He was what you needed.
So maybe it was good to love him, to be entrenched in his sweet, sweet voice, to be mesmerized by his glittering brown eyes. But he was human and would always be.
No law said you couldn’t be with him, but the fundamental differences of your nature made for an unlikely match. He’d be far too disgusted by your lack of needs—after all, didn’t humans fall in love because they needed too much? They needed love, they needed food, they needed companionship. If you were fully autonomous of all things… did you still harbour the ability to truly feel love? To be a truly good partner?
He showed you the recesses of his music folder, confided to you the deepest of thoughts that lingered on his mind, offered you a glimpse into the person that he was.
You two sang together, loved together, spent your moments together. But it wouldn’t be enough. It would never be enough.
No matter how beautiful he was, no matter how sweet and pulling his voice would be, nothing would change how addicted you were to the euphoria of his love, nothing would change how mesmerized you were by him.
And aren’t all the best things the worst ones in disguise? It ate away at you until you felt suffocated. When you felt yourself in love it was like something clicked and slowly fizzled out.
Like when he knew he had you, all of a sudden everything changed. Like a siren finally holding their captured, the blissful illusion melted away to reveal sharp claws and fearsome fangs.
It wasn’t love anymore, it was temptation. It would always be temptation of a thing too good to be true. That initial phase of falling in love was filled with false promises, filled with lies and misperceptions of a wholesome love.
No, love didn’t exist. Not when it came to humans.
Temptation. It would always be temptation.

baddest bitch in the wild west. biting is her love language. stiletto nails all the time. avid horror movie enjoyer, loving all things paranormal. rbf until she smiles, showing off her teeth gems. false eyelashes are her best friend, using them to create a ‘siren eye’ effect. platform demonias all day long. fishnet tights paired with a little black mini skirt is her go to combo. has multiple piercings, including a belly ring with her man’s initial dangling from it. deftones always on repeat, especially ‘gauze’. despite her bitchy demeanour, she’s always down for a cuddle and nap with her man. princess treatment is what she craves and won’t settle for anything less. she gets very needy when it comes to her bf, showing him a side no one else has the privilege to see. possessive is an understatement. knows how to get what she wants.
with matt :
at first he was a little scared of her, but grew to realise they’re actually very similar. she for sure introduced him to her music taste; deftones, lil peep & lil tracy, rob zombie, paramore, radiohead etc and he loves all of it. she brings out a side in matt he didn’t even know was there. he’s constantly asking if they can match fits, of course she agrees. probably calls her ‘medusa’ because she makes him so nervous, he freezes up. he loves finding new horror movies for the two of them to watch together, just wanting to see her face light up at the date proposal. night drives are their thing; just them two in the car, listening to her music, talking about god knows what. it’s when matt feels the happiest. he also feels the happiest when she’s on top of him, crying his name out as he thrusts up into her. his hand lightly traces up her back tattoo as he whispers praise to her, even though she’s been a brat all day. he has no problem dealing with her sass, not being afraid to sass her right back. arguments aren’t common, but when they do happen matt’s always the first to apologise, even if she’s in the wrong. he doesn’t really know how he managed to bag her, but he’s reminded she’s just an odd girl every time she bites him out of love.
with chris :
she’s 100% got him wrapped around her finger, and anyone that knows them can see it. sometimes she can get bratty with him, but he doesn’t mind - he knows how to put her in her place. he loves the way she marks up his back with deep red scratches, her acrylics proving how good he’s making her feel. one thing he loves more though is her back tattoo - how he gets to kiss up it to her neck when she’s taking him from behind. he also loves how needy she gets for him, kissing his neck to show she wants him. he calls her something stupid like ‘toots’ just to get on her nerves she secretly loves the way he says it though, his boston accent slipping through. she did freak chris out a little at first; her horror fascination and odd biting habits making him unsure of what they could talk about. he quickly learned to love her though, no matter how strange she seemed to be. nights in to re-watch all her favourite movies proved to be a common date between the two. she loves when chris allows her to dress him, always picking out more darker clothes in his closet. seeing him in a style similar to hers making her go absolutely feral for him. to say she makes chris nervous is a huge understatement. when they first met he didn’t want to embarrass himself in front of her, but over time he got more comfortable and allowed her to see his goofier side, only after she got all soft with him.

a/n 2 : i actually can’t decide who snake!reader’s best paired with 😭 i was thinking chris because he’s so obsessed with her, but then i was thinking matt because it’s easy for him to enjoy her music taste and they both love matching fits so much. eek idk they’re both so good for her, i think both boys can give her princess treatment and can handle her brattiness that occasionally slips out !!

As for marble statues sing in a minor key:
First of all, the title is inspired by the lines Tout en chantant sur le mode mineur (...) Les grands jets d'eau sveltes parmi les marbres from the poem Clair de Lune by French poet Paul Verlaine (trans.: Singing all the while, in the minor mode (...) The tall, slender plumes of the fountains among the marble sculptures) which is the poem that inspired the composer Debussy to compose his Clair de Lune. poem text here | music here
It's a Greek mythology inspired Hermitcraft AU, False/Cleo (who else ^.^°), with True Symmetry as the sarcastic peanut gallery sidekick. I originally started writing the fic for a previous fandom (Timeless), but realised along the way that it worked way better for Hermitcraft. False and True are psychai, for now, though I may change that in future.
I've written two intros to this fic that I'm still trying to wrangle into one, so I'll just give you both for now!
One:
"Are you sure it's here?" False Symmetry asks her sister as they approach a nondescript brownstone. "This doesn't exactly look like what you described." True laughs, pulling her along.
"Underground clubs don't have signs and bright lights, False. Come on; it's around the back. Evil X showed me last time. It's legit, I promise." The two sisters walk around the building, two pairs of heels clicking against the pavement, until they reach a door. True presses the doorbell and smiles at the camera lens. A soft buzz, then the door unlocks, and the older Symmetry sister can finally lead the other down a set of stairs, and into the Hermitage.
“Hey Hels!” True greeted the young guy standing by the door. “This is False, my sister.”
“Ma’am,” Hels replied while nodding at False. “Welcome to the Hermitage.”
“We’re practically the same age,” False responded, “so you can drop the ‘ma’am’.” Hels smiled and nodded.
Soft piano tunes reached False’s ears as True led her further into the establishment. Dimmed lights and just the slightest amount of smoke turned everyone into silhouettes, except for the stage. A redhead stood behind the microphone, while a masked man played the double bass, flanked by the saxophone player. At the far edge of the stage, a pianist played the accompaniment to Mack the Knife.
“That’s Cleo,” True explained. “And Etho, Stress, and the pianist’s Ren. Iskall is dating Stress, over there, and Etho might court the bartender, Bdubs, once he gets his head out of his ass. Cleo doesn’t do relationships, as far as I know, but she has fucked every single person she’s ever laid eyes on.”
“Including you?” False asked, eyeing the singer.
“I plead the fifth.”
"True!"

Two:
Soft tones reach her ears as alcohol soothes her soul. The singer, a redhead, fills the room with the G major of Fly Me to the Moon. False could lose herself in this. It feels tempting. She only came here so her sister had a wing woman, but she’s starting to feel more relaxed than she had expected. This song talks about the excess of materials, drugs, drinking, wealth and sex. A girl having a rich handsome man that gives her everything and he can’t keep her hands off of her. Sounds like Kurapika being in the mafia underworld and making tons of money; Neon bathing materialism as both gets drunk in love and sex? Heck yeah.
3. Young and Beautiful by Lana del Ray

This is the theme song for movie The Great Gatsby. @anotherworldash​ always paralleled the relationships between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan with Kurapika and Neon. Gatsby desired Daisy because she represents the old money wealth that Gatsby longed for as a child. He became rich through illegal activities. Kurapika desired adventure and for their eyes to be appreciated (and not called a demon for it), which Neon appreciates their eyes as beautiful (even though now it’s in a twisted way. Daisy and Neon are very similar characters who bathes in materialism because they are despondent.

100% Neon and her daddy issues. She’s always with insane messed up men like Kurapika and also Chrollo because she never had a good upbringing to begin with.

Are we going to put more saucy 50 Shades of Grey OSTs for this hot pairing? Heck yeah we are.
7. A Little Death by The Neighbourhood

This one’s interesting. So the title is based on the French phrase La petite mort  to describe post-orgasm. The song describes two people having sex, finding solace in one another and “experiencing death”. Kurapika and Neon are two wounded souls - Kurapika’s tragic past and Neon’s lack of love from her father.
Also, Nostrade is from Nostradamus - a French astrologer, physician and reputed seer. I can totally see Neon speaking to Kurapika in French. OOF sexy.

OMFG. This song is 100% KuraNeon bodyguard-boss situation. So this song was actually from this movie called The Bodyguard (1992). It’s a story about a celebrity in danger, so she hired a bodyguard to protect her. Both don’t really like each other at first, but they eventually fall in love. Sounds like Kurapika and Neon? YES! This was actually the movie that made me think KuraNeon is possible.

I always have this headcanon (and also some other shippers) that their relationship will start off as something physical attraction first? Then it grows from there when both of them starts blurring the lines. 
13. Pavane for A Dead Princess 
Okay, this is classical music is just... we don’t really know if Neon is dead in the current arc (although I believe that she’s not dead and Chrollo’s speculation is only a false narrative). 
But if Togashi does decide to kill her off, I think this song is so fitting for her. Given that she has Princess Syndrome. 
Even if Neon’s alive, I don’t think she is living the best life. Personally, I think she’s a princess-sy girl with a dead soul. She collects dead body parts because she has no sympathy for the dead, partly because of her upbringing. Very interesting.

I want to make a JJK witch au...
I’m still deciding how Yuji being Sukuna’s vessel works for the au (is something he’ll be since birth, or will it be closer to canon? Kinda leaning towards the first option), and how the Witch society will differ from canon (I feel like there won’t be masquerade, but instead the public is kept in the dark about the deeper working on the people that protect them from magical threats) and creating a list of fics I want to write for it (I currently have at least four, one for each member of the quartet to kinda explain their situation before going into more general things
I have a deep love for semi-complicated aus (just look at Kny’s DemonSwap and JoJo’s JoJoGard on AO3 to understand) so there will be a lot of lore and changes to make the au make sense and not be a straight rehash of canon (I feel like worrying too much about how much it deviates from canon kills my inspiration a bit and why continuing DemonSwap got really hard while Blue Lock’s Ego’s Extrodinart Egoist was so easy).
There will be manga spoilers below the cut due to me talking about characters who haven’t been introduced in the anime at the time of this post
Au Inspirations

Okay so Witches in this au are basically humans who have a enough magical concentration in their bodies to use and interact with magic without the reliance on tools like grimoires or runes. So Witches are basically found and trained in how to keep the balance between humans and the magical beasts that also walk the earth. It isn’t always the most glamorous job, but it certainly is the least boring.
And since Witches aren’t that common, they’re often sent to special schools to train them in how to use their own unique types of magic (some of which is passed down through bloodlines). Magic kinda draws upon the mysteries and collective unconscious of the world? So certain magic is weaker than it was in previous generations while there’s also newer, stronger magic centering around recent ideas (I’m not sure I’m explaining it well but like whatever)
Normal humans are often kept in the dark about the true depths of magic and its cost “for their own good” but like Witch big-wigs are still hella corrupt so....
And like the name “Warlock” is given to any Witch who breaks their oath to uphold the natural order for their own gain
Also for now the witch ranking system now goes:
Novice (Grade 4)
Competent (Grade 3)
Adept (Semi-Grade 2)
Advanced (Grade 2)
Expert (Grade 1)
Elite (Grade 1)
Great (Special Grade)
So a full Witch’s title would be “The (Rank) Witch of (Name of Magic)” or “The (Rank) (Name of Magic) Witch”
I might actually simplify the ranking system to Novice-Adept-Elite-Great in the future but idk
I also gave most of the cast specializations! I have some plot details but I don’t want to share those rn
Currently I have:
Yuji- Sukuna’s Vessel (later The Memory Witch)
Megumi- The Shadow Witch (keeps a lot of familiars)
Nobara- The Straw Doll Witch (kept it simple)
Junpei- The Jellyfish Witch (Newest to everything)
Sukuna- The Malevolent Witch (Couldn’t think of a better name since currently a lot about him is unknown)
Maki- The “False” Witch (given to her by the Zen’in family bc they’re still kinda assholes. Unique in the sense that she has no capability for using magic, not even a grimoire can really help her that much)
Inumaki- The Intoner Witch (I kinda liked it more than “The Speech Witch” and “The Siren Witch” didn’t make much sense)
Panda- Panda (Technically he’s a familiar learning magic so yeah...Panda Witch lol)
Yuta- The Love Witch (It’ll probably change later but I like how it kinda connects to what motivates him the most)
Gojo- The Inifinity Witch (I might make him be the one to either release Sukuna or to discover that Yuji is the current vessel and make Megumi approach him)
Getou- The Devouring Witch (He doesn’t go the same route of canon, though he does lose a bet that cost him his body)
Shoko- The Healing Witch
Nanami- The 7:3 Witch (the Ratio Witch sounded weird)
Ijichi- The Curtain Witch

Quick disclaimer: this is pure self-indulgence and slightly dark (not really) for the month of halloween. I have not written for this fandom before (or written a lot of fanfic at all the last few years) and English is not my first language so excuse the inevitable mistakes.

There are a great many stories about a great many things lurking beneath the ocean waves. Unknown creatures waiting hungrily for mindless sailors, benevolent forces looking to save lost souls; myths of claws and teeth and shadows, magical and terrible and irresistible.
Fjord has heard all of them - on the docks, over half-drunk cups, across endless voyages with dark horizons -  and yet he still finds himself woefully unprepared when the soft musical voice drifts up from the water. The song, wordless and haunting, tugs at something lonely deep inside his chest and fills him with a longing so intense he’s up on the railing before any sense returns to his mind. Even then it’s only the striking of eight bells that persuades him to step down safely onto the deck instead of diving headfirst into the salty abyss.
Afterwards the voice finds him again and again. Always after the sun has set, always when he’s alone. It speaks to him in a foreign accent, the sound both attractive and terrifying, trying to lure him to a death on the murky ocean floor. Fjord tries and fails to catch a glimpse at the source, though he’s convinced he sees a flash of blue scales the one time he aims a harpoon into the depths below - right before a gleeful laugh rings in his ears.
Every now and then it leaves him alone for nights on end, lulls him into a false sense of solitude and when he starts to think that maybe - just maybe - it has grown bored and tired, it re-appears; cryptic and joyful and threatening.
It’s in moments like this - when he’s tired, his eyes are lost on the horizon and he finds himself buried in his own thoughts - that it manages to trick him into engagement. The voice tells splendid stories, fills his mind with wonders, entertaining and alluring, and then prods him for information which he can’t help but give. Ridiculous things, arbitrary things, things that seem unimportant right until he lies in bed and dread fills him as he thinks of all the ways he just signed his soul away.

“Don’t you have other sailors to— devour or something?” Fjord laments one night. He’s tired and has been on the water for too long.
“Sure,” the voice replies cheerily, “but none that are quite so pleasant in conversation. Nor as handsome.” The blush that creeps up along his neck only adds to his annoyance.
“Aren’t you tired?” It sounds like a plea even to his own ears. “Aren’t you bored? Cold? Hungry?”
“Ravenous,” comes the reply without missing a beat, raising the hairs on Fjord’s arms. “Would you like to help me with that?”
Fjord grumbles something unintelligible under his breath and is rewarded with a bubbly laugh. He ignores the misplaced sense of pride that springs up at being the cause of it, instead he lets himself slump against a barrel and wonders if anyone has ever been stalked by a fish before.
“Will you please tell me more about the food you eat on the islands? Those bananas sound pretty interesting.”
He sighs but complies. It’s easier to talk mindlessly about exotic fruits and strange pastries (the creature seems to be most interested in the descriptions of sweet flavors) than to spend the remainder of his watch trying to ignore the presence down in the water.

Vandran tells him it’s a siren. Fjord doesn’t talk about the encounters and Vandran doesn’t ask an explanation for the sudden interest in deep-sea legends; simply narrows his eyes slightly.
Nearly everyone - both in port and on sea - has a story about sirens and nearly everyone is willing to share it.  Alluring and highly deadly, sirens are said to be insatiable and merciless and the most lethal monsters beneath the waves.
“They’ll tear the flesh straight from your bones,” the cook grins menacingly.
“They’ll suck the soul out of your chest,” the dockmaster warns.
Fjord’s imagination has always been lacking, more practically inclined, but even so he can’t help the image his mind creates. Half woman, half demon; a servant of death with long flowing hair and a scaled tail; eyes filled with murder and mirth.
There are no tales, however, about unexplained fascinations and relentless fixations on unassuming seafarers. Nothing about curiosity and wit or endless teasing. No one talks about genuine wonder and quiet kinship or offers up an answer as to why Fjord has started dreaming of radiant laughter.

Fjord has come to expect the company now, feels almost dissapointed on the evenings the siren doesn’t appear. She laughs with him as much as at him now, she finds simple ways of provoking him, of keeping him engaged. She asks puzzling questions and offers challenging answers; settling herself quietly and comfortably inside Fjord’s mind.
He cannot quite figure out why. He’s never been a particularly interesting conversationalist nor one for clever insights. He’s quiet and simple and truly the strangest thing about him are the chipped tusks he keeps neatly hidden away. He’s not inspiring like Vandran nor cunning like Sabien, yet he doesn’t hear them speak of strange visitors that wish to lure them into the darkness.
And so he wonders, his explanations always coming up short.
Until one night when he’s talking gruffly and reluctantly about the orphanage and he’s met with a tender; “you must’ve been so lonely.” It’s filled with such sorrowful compassion, such melancholy empathy and suddenly the thought comes to him.
“As are you.”
No reply comes and he said it so low and quietly he isn’t even sure it carried over the sound of creaking wood; but it fits perfectly in his chest as the truth is want to do and looking back he wonders how he could’ve missed it at all.

It becomes increasingly difficult to remember to be afraid. When the siren mentions her hunger so flippantly or half-heartedly tries to coax him off the ship, Fjord often lacks the distress he knows he should be feeling. Instead he scoffs or chuckles or simply ignores and desperately tries not to think of what it would be like to simply give in.
It’s during one of his watches on the main deck (closer to sunrise than sundown) a muted, colorful light dances up from below the ship. Merely a second later her voice urges him softly to “quick, come see.” He doesn’t hesitate but before leaning over the railing he does have the good sense of wrapping one of the rigging lines around his arm; just in case.
There in the water, faintly glowing in the light of the moon, drifts a jellyfish bloom. And another a little ways beyond that, and another beyond that. Hundreds and hundreds of small marine animals spread out in clusters as far as the eye can see, illuminating the ocean in breathtaking bioluminescence.
The hues of pinks and blues and other pastels are not what draw Fjord’s eye however; barely a few feet from him, moving effortlessly with the waves, is the most fantastical creature he has ever seen. Lit up slightly by the force of nature that’s passing them by her skin is ghastly blue, her hair darker and dripping underneath twisting horns. A soft splashing alerts him to the tail hidden in the salty water, a long unnatural shadow that stretches under her.
“Have you ever seen anything like this before?” she asks and then lifts her eyes to meet his. Bright and enchanting they leave him breathless as she studies him.
He nods slowly, unthinking, unable to look anywhere else and suddenly she flashes him a smile, fangs sharp and dangerous. A tingling spreads from the back of his neck as something pulls at his gut; he can’t say if it’s fear or want or both.
“Do you want to take a closer look?” Even if it is difficult to make out on her face as a shadow passes over it, the smirk is clear in her voice. His knuckles are white with the sheer force of keeping himself on board.
“T-the—” he coughs, his voice hoarse, “the last thing I’d want to do is jump in there.”
“Really?” she challenges.
“Their sting is quite painful,” he reasons, more with himself than with her.
She simply laughs at that.

“Would it hurt?” he can’t help but ask.
She doesn’t answer at first; searches silently for something in his gaze. He might imagine the fear reflected in her own.
“I don’t know.”

In the end it doesn’t matter, in the end it’s a storm that takes him.
The initial impact with the water is enough to force most of the air out of him; the slamming against the hull of the ship chokes out whatever would’ve remained in his lungs. The current tosses him around, whirls him in every possible direction but towards the surface until there is nothing but darkness and his burning lungs. He tries desperately to swim, kicking his legs until his boots sink below, until his vision blurs and his arms grow numb.
The only regret he can muster up as the abyss starts tugging at his consciousness is not making the jump himself.
He doesn’t notice the hands at first. Only when the webbed fingers find his own, pull him away from oblivion, does the barest hint of feeling return to his body. He still can’t see but there are scales sliding against his legs as something weighs against his chest. His face feels paralyzed when cold palms come to rest against it. The press against his lips is soft, barely noticeable but not unpleasant and then--
Sudden fire spreads through every part of his being, sets everything ablaze as even the darkness seems to dance like flames. The pressure against his mouth grows, hot and uncomfortable and enslaving. Burning and burning and burning.
The shock of cold and fresh air as his head breaches the surface leaves him dizzy. Gasping and spluttering he clings desperately onto the only solid thing around him as waves keep crashing over them.
He hardly registers the siren pulling him steadily, too dazed and confused, his brain too sluggish to comprehend their moving. He focuses instead on the only thing he can see; her eyes. Purple and violent and all-consuming.
If this is death, maybe dying is not so terrible.

The Paranormal and the Sitcom: A So Weird & Girl Meets World Crossover Essay

Introduction
From 1999 to 2001, Zoog Disney aired a paranormal show named So Weird, the Disney version of the X-Files. Micheal Jacobs revived Boy Meets World with a continuation called Girl Meets World. On the surface So Weird and Girl Meets World have nothing in common. The former show filmed in Canada, the latter was filmed in California. Cooksney and Jacobs couldn't be more different, Jacobs is known for comedic sitcoms like My Two Dads, John Astole and producer Jon Cooksney, focused on speculative fiction. Astole worked on Stargate, and the 1980s Twilight Zone revivals. Disney Channel hosting their television shows is their only commonalities so far. What made these programs successful was pushing Disney's Astole limits on what considered acceptable. As a result, So Weird was the darkest show Disney Channel aired where Girl Meets World was one of the smarter television shows of modern Disney Channel. Audiences don't think of Disney tackling death acceptance, religion, or feminism
Fiona "Fi" Philips (Cara DeLizia) along with her older brother Jack, join their mother Molly Phillips (Makenzie (Phillips) on her comeback tour. Having a Rockstar mom isn't easy, especially when evil spirits begin stalking Fiona. When Annie (Alexz Johnson) arrives a paranormal panther follows suit. Riley Matthews (Rowen Blanchard) along with her best friend Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter) continue the lessons her father learned almost Boy Meets World. At six years old I loved stories about hauntings and dark creatures, so, So Weird naturally appealed to me. Nostalgia over Boy Meets World influenced my decision to watch its sequel and the quality of it surprised me. This cross-over essay's purpose is dissecting these shows popularity and their similarities rather than their differences.
Surface Similarities & Differences
At the surface level SW and GMW's similarities are minor., Fi Phillips and Riley Matthews are our brunette primary protagonists; Annie Thelon and Maya Hart are our blonde secondary protagonists. Fandoms hated Annie and Riley because they interfered with the fandoms' favorites then subsequently blamed for the lackluster third seasons. Celebrities Carpenter and Johnzon used their shows as advertisement for their music careers. Actually Disney gave Carpenter a record deal before casting her as Maya. Carpenter is talented but still sounds like a Disney pop star, however, Johnson has more experience. SW had better music because there was a larger variety of genres like Rock, Pop, Blues, and Celtic music. SW alluded to Celtic and Greek mythology like changelings and sirens. GMW alluded to BMW and nothing else like Cory and Shawn's jellybean scene. Both shows had actors who appeared in crime shows including Carpenter and Eric von Detten.*1
What else SW and GMW had in common was that they had realistic friendships and family dynamics. Friendships weren't used as problem-solving devices but to deepen the characters. Jack (Patrick Lewis) and Clu (Eric von Detten) hung out because they wanted to not because the plot required them to. Parents were written as people. Molly struggled with widowhood and had goals outside of being a mother. Irene felt inferior to her younger sister and Ned Bell was a biker before he married Irene. In addition, Cory taught History yet offered fatherly advice to his daughter and her friends. Single mother, Katy, struggled with her part-time job and caring for Maya. As siblings, Jack/Fi and Riley/Auggie neither fought constantly nor always got along. 'Singularity' Jack and Fi do nothing but argue but in 'Medium' Jack uses "colourful language" when a psychic angers Fi. In GMW, Riley and Auggie argued in 'Forgiveness' then have a touching moment in 'Christmas Maya.' When writing only children Jacobs and Astole never relied on only child stereotypes instead showing the complexity of being one. Not to mention, as an only child myself, I loved this. Maya and Annie weren't spoiled were confused over siblings concepts, like sharing. Trapped in endless detention, Annie's confused by Jack standoffishness finding out that he falsely believes that Annie's replacing his sister. After assuring him that was never her intention, she and Jack become friends. Likewise, Maya confuses Rucas' (Riley/ Lucas) relationship with that of a brother-sister one because she doesn't understand how siblings act. Siblings are loving and friendly but also bicker like Lucaya (Maya/Lucas). Eventually, they develop sibling dynamics with other characters, Annie/Jack and Maya/Lucas.
Neither show's focus was on romance. SW focused on family while GMW focused on friendship and love interests didn't appear in more than one episode. Jack's girlfriend, Gabe, appeared in 'Angel.' Ryan was Fi's first kiss in 'Second Generation' and GMW had two date episodes. 'Brother' was about Cory and Topanga's date night; 'First Date' was about Lucas and Riley first kiss. If romance wasn't plot important then why did GMW develop a shipping war while SW was immune to such disputes? In comparison to GMW, SW had limited couple options meaning there weren't many options before couples became slash or incestuous Those options are: Annie and Fi with either Clu or Carrey. GMW avoids this pitfall with a diverse amount of characters but started shipping wars by introducing the leads and love interest simultaneously. Fanon favourites were Jack/Annie, Carrey/Molly, Lucas/Maya despite the intended couples are Cory/Topanga, Riley/Lucas, and Fi/Clu.
Why did Anti-Annie fans hate her less than Anti-Riley fans? Again, the fandom hated Riley more because of differences in character casting. If a Jerkass character is among the main cast the fandom automatically absolves them, giving their retribution to the kinder characters. Maya's the "broken bird" so fans will prefer her and discount Riley giving fans reason to pair Maya in a love-hate romance. For extra information on this, TvTropes offers an analysis using Nickelodeon television as examples. SW main characters aren't jerkasses toward their friends meaning Annie gets less hate and Friend-Lovers are on equal levels with Love-Hate ones.
Seekers: Fiona & Riley

Seekers of the 12 Archetypes are constantly searching for expanded knowledge of the world at large or themselves. Riley and Fi want to understand other people's perspectives in a worldly sense (Riley) and supernaturally (Fi). However both are open-minded toward unproven phenomenon as opposed to our blond protagonists who rather "go with the flow." Also as the primary protagonists they possess the most contradictions of their worlds. Fi's an amateur parapsychologist but wants a normal life to protect her family. ('Lightening Rod') Fi is a computer geek struggling academically but loves learning new subjects ('Tulpa', 'Escape', 'Vampire'). In comparison, Riley succeeds with her schoolwork but is naïve to the world around her. ('Pluto') She insecure often becoming victim to peer pressure but craves uniqueness away from her peers ('Popular', 'Jexica') Riley and Annie love feminine hobbies – makeup and shopping – but love masculine pursuits too. Both of them love the outdoors, athletics, but are terrible at sports. ('Ski Lodge' in GMW and 'Sacrifice' in SW) Riley can't make the cheerleading team but loves basketball; Fi fails at baseball but tries appreciates the sport. ('Singularity', 'Rah Rah') Contradictions make them rounded characters but causes internal conflict when they attempt to form a stable Ego.
Upon waking up in the middle of the night, Riley eavesdrops on her parents where she doubts if she's good enough compared to her parents. After all Topanga is a successful lawyer, Cory is a successful teacher, and have a perfect fairytale love. ('Cory & Topanga') Unable to connect with her father, Rick, Fi seeks resemblances between herself and him. Just like Riley's atelphobia, Fi feels disconnected from her family because of her paranormal interests. An example is 'Strange Geometry' where Fi feels betrayed that her mother kept Rick obsession a secret. Since Lucas doesn't differentiate between Riley and Maya during the love triangle, Riley further doubts her worth as a girlfriend. In the pilot and a deleted 'Upstate' scene, Riley molds herself into Maya so she'll have an identity. Constant identity searching is another aspect of the Seeker archetype.
Caretaking drives our protagonists to seek out the world's answers. Fi wants closure with her father yet her investigations aren't just for her benefit, but for the benefits of her loved ones. Molly's friends Rebecca left when she was Fi's age, thus Fi confronts Rebecca's "daughter" so Molly will have some closure of her own. Reluctantly, Fi leads the two of them to Rebecca's house where history repeated itself again; Rebecca's family disappeared again leaving Molly more betrayed and confused. 'In Forgiveness' Riley back talks to Kermit wanting answers as to why he left her best friend when she was younger. Town members become annoyed by Fi when she forces them to remember the alien invasion the day before. ('Memory') Fi helps a coma girl's mother and grandmother with technology to revive the girl from her coma even though these people are strangers to her. ('Lost') Riley invades her friends' boundaries so Maya will have hope ('Master Plan'), tries jumping into a bull pen to save Lucas ('Texas'), and keeps her friends in a stairwell so they'll reflect on their surroundings ('High School'). Fi challenges Bricriu to hangman so he'll stop possessing her brother. ('Will-o-Wisp') Riley gives up her relationship with Shawn, her godfather, so Maya will have a father. She forgets her affections for Lucas so Maya will have a chance at love. ('Texas', 'New Years') Occasionally their actions cause annoyance among their friends but its for the greater good. Sacrificing one's own desires is the key component in the Caretaker's goal.
Creators: Annie & Maya

Creators turn illusion into reality and similar to Seekers, Creators are invested self-identity and possibilities. When we're introduced to Annie and Maya both are immediately drawn to creative fields. By the ending of 'Lightening Rod', Annie confides in Fi that she's always had an eerie connection to music and find inspiration from something as insignificant as a stick. Furthermore, Mr and Mrs Thelon inform Molly that Annie has the ability to master most any instrument. 'In the Darkness', the theme song, shows Annie playing as well as popular instruments like the guitar. Maya gained that same artistic guidance from the stars or a paint war. ('Meets Boy', 'Upstate', 'Maya's Mother'). Partly due to Carpenter portrays her, Maya masters singing and guitar quite easily. ('1961', 'Creativity') An added bonus to Annie's is that they act as retrocognition from her past.
Both blondes quickly give up old lifestyles for chances at an art or singing career. For example, Annie's ecstatic she'll join Molly's band on tour, granted her parents reason this is so Annie will have a normal and balanced life. ('Lightening Rod') Impulsive, Future Maya leaps at the opportunity when she receives a SoHo gallery internship. ('Bay Window') Creators share the fear of not having an identity. When a recording agent steals Annie's voice and likewise when the art teacher grades Maya's painting as incomplete, the girls doubt their self-worth. In 'Carnival' Annie's reflections mock her abilities when she rescues her friends from an evil ringmaster. Season one Maya wonders if Riley was right and Maya's troubled past is responsible for her artistic ability. What's more is that the Creator archetype gives the character a dangerous duality; either they're practical with their art or they drown themselves in their disillusion. Which is why the Orphan archetype lurks beneath the Creator.
The Thelons and Hart families are alive but their actions produce an orphan effect on their daughters. Traveling across the globe before the So Weird eventsprohibitedestablishing permanent roots somewhere. Kermit's physical abandonment compounded with Katy's emotional abandonment ensured that Maya wouldn't have a support system. Although being an only child isn't problematic, not having someone to depend on made connecting with others difficult. Neither would form a real connection until they made surrogate families out of the Phillips and Matthews families. Its not surprising their friends would find them selfish at times.
Death Acceptance
The major difference between Cooksney and Jacobs is Cooskney never intended lessons for So Weird whereas Jacobs' moralizing hindered character development on Girl Meets World. Jacobs's lesson was the vague statement, "People Change People" I'd argue his actual moral is not taking people for instead. Cooksney's moral, if you could consider it one, was sacrifice. Fi gets lost camping and sacrifices immediate help to save Big Foot. ('Sacrifice') Barring those morals, the writers over-arcing themes of both were acceptance. SW's primary theme was death acceptance for the Phillips and Matthews family with the minor theme of childhood acceptance Annie) and Maya. All stories lead back to sex and death, Disney's not going to discuss sexuality, but death resounds through every film since Disney's inception. Also no SW or GMW character was exempt from death confrontation. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross's Five Stages of Grief: Anger, Sadness, Denial, Bargaining, and Acceptance aren't linear and one may never gain acceptance. All the characters are stuck in one of the stages and only Fi gains acceptance.
Earnest Becker's seven reasons why people fear death are as followed:
1. Fear of pain
2. Fear of not knowing what becomes of our bodies
3. How our dependents will manage after our death
4. How our loved ones will cope emotionally after our death
5. Fear of an afterlife, such as eternal oblivion, or Heaven/Hell
6. Fear of dying with an unlived life
7. Fear of dying with uncompleted projects
Thantophobia is why humans behave the way they do. Rick's untimely death when Fi was three-years-old affected her because she has no memories of her father. She often resented her brother and mother because they knew him and she did not. Rick/Fi's shared fear is emotionally coping of his death. Maya struggled with coping with the metaphorical death of her father, possibly thinking he's dead to her. Kermit intentionally abandoned his family, whereas Rick intended on returning to his family, but he didn't plan on evil spirits murdering him. Fi and Maya are stuck in the anger phase of grieving. When her grandfather is visited by a banshee, Fi tracks the creature down and asks Death personified the fairness in taking her father away from her. Death responds that it will even the imbalance by extending her grandfather's life for a time. But for seasons 1 and 2 Fi copes with death by actively seeking the paranormal afterlife to escape and accept death.
Jack's death phobia is similar to Fi's except he fears losing his sister and mother like he lost his father; his nightmare is a manifestation of that fear. In the midst of gang's lucid dream, Jack leaves them for a method to awaken from the dream but is transported to the night of Rick's. Dream Rick promises he'll return, but knowing the future Jack chases after his father. Fear trapped Jack in Grief's denial stage subsequently causing his resentment of the paranormal his dad loved so much. And it's not until 'Changeling' when Jack accepts his dad's death when he starts singing again. Surprised, Clu comments that Jack hadn't sung since Rick died. Jack responds with, "Well, maybe it's time I started again."
Minor episodes such as 'Fall' (SW) and 'Gravity' (GMW) discuss death on a smaller scale. 'Fall' details Ned and his childhood friend, Sam, on the death anniversary of their other friend's drowning. Haunted by the memory, Sam is literally haunted by Pete's ghost leading to Pete's recent. The men's responses to death are vastly different; Ned would rather forget Pete's death and Sam tries to confront it. Both are part of the grieving sequence but overall, 'Fall' discuses the myriad of complex emotions after death. Childhood deaths are rightly considered "Bad Deaths" whether or not loved ones are complicit with the death, we often feel that we could've prevented it. Sam is stuck in the bargaining and grieving stages before he can move on. As the men relive that fateful day admits he was scared of dying and can finally accept death now. In 'Gravity' the teens are crushed when a beloved bakery owner dies leaving the bakery to Topanga. The episode ends with Auggie opening his gift with a note reading "It's not My-Kranian bakery, I'm dead." Cory phones telling him that he is glad Feeney isn't dead, perhaps this was an allusion to 'I Dream of Feeney' when Cory wished him ill. Riley gives the eulogy and everyone learns to cherish their loved ones while they're alive.
Next is Molly and her death phobia in the series. Molly's emotions toward her husband are erratic in all three seasons. It's been over a decade since Rick's death and she still hasn't accepted it. In the Christmas episode 'Fountain' Molly admits to a young Fi that her loss bothers her. In 'Medium' Molly began to resent Rick's memory because she felt haunted by him wishing that she could forget him. Molly misses being a lover but is guilt-ridden because she feels like she is betraying her husband. ('Fathom') And in season 3's 'Muse,' Molly and the band travel to the town of their first concert to recapture the inspiration she felt there. Molly never gains acceptance over death and I loved that this option was shown as well. Not everything is wrapped up in a happy ending.
The final lesson is accepting your own death. Self-death may be literal like the episodes 'Rebecca', 'James Garr', 'Angel' or 'Grave Mistake'. Or death can be metaphorical like Riley becoming new personas, Maya losing herself, or the death of love. The former episodes dealt with the concept of immortality and coming to terms with one's final moments. Fi investigates a girl claiming to be Rebecca's daughter in truth, she's Rebecca herself. Amazed at how much this immortal girl knows and has seen in her years, Rebecca refutes this saying that she hates her immortality. She can never marry, she had to leave Molly, her only friend, behind. Who wants to live forever? 'James Garr' is about the titular character undergo cryonic preservation as a cancer cure. The procedure's successful, but James Gar hasn't a soul anymore with this realization he gives his life to an elderly patient Jack met. In the subplot that elderly man dying of cancer beleives that whenever death comes for him he will greet death with willingness and bravery. James Garr realizing his hollow life switch places with the man so he can live a little longer. 'Grave Mistake' is about a family friend of the family who's been receiving death threats and runs to Annie and the Phillips for help. With Annie's guidance, the woman discovers her dead husband wrote "You're dead" so that she'd remember she died. It's rare that a children's show relays the message that death isn't ominous, it's part of life.
During an interview Cooksney admitted that if Disney had allowed them to, Fi would descend into Hell to rescue her father's soul.*2 Jack would have discovered his past life as a Celtic knight who begged that his next incarnation would be as Fi's older brother. Moreover, it explains that dragon's fear of Jack in 'Strangling' and aside from familial bonds, knight life explains his overprotection of him mom from a mermaid siren. ('Fathom') A tenet of the Order of the Good Death's death positivity is "I believe that my open, honest advocacy around death can make a difference, and can change culture." Cooksney probably didn't intend for SW to have so much death focus but it's applicable to the show.
'Yearbook', 'Triangle', and 'Ski Lodge' are examples of metaphorical death. Whenever Riley embraces different personas, she's undergoing an Ego Death in an attempt to discover her true self. She becomes a Goth Girl so her classmates visualize her shadow side. Contrary to her masquerade, Riley's shadow side isn't Goth but is a metaphor of her dark side coexisting with her light side. Maya lost herself during her dalliance with Lucas to understand her relationship identity contrasting he singular identity. Later on during the love triangle's conclusion, Riley's first comment is "This love triangle needs to die. Nature knows that it needs to die." Of all her friends Riley mentions death the most, examples are 'Yearbook', 'Gravity', and 'Pluto.' Continuing with this death theme involve the teenagers' fantasies as a metaphor for the death of their romance. During their respective daydreams, Riley and Maya inform each other that their dream romance isn't reality. In Dream Riley's fantasy she dies, in essence, the girls kill their ego and their romances to grow.
Childhood Acceptance
Transforming themselves from childhood trauma are Annie and Maya's ultimate goals within the series. Annie's panther and Maya's hope are key in reaching their transformations. For this essay portion, I'm using Widow's Walk', 'Pen Pal', and 'Annie's Song.' For Maya's episodes, I'll use are 'World of Terror 3', 'Forgiveness', and 'Goodbye.'
Symbolically the panther represents the death-rebirth cycle and confronting fears. According to Spirit Animal's website, those with the panther guide are blessed with powerful protectors. In addition, panthers indicate supernatural journeys with occult leanings. Therefore her character's introduction served a purpose in So Weird despite being unplanned. Finally as Annie's panther endows her with strength to confront any obstacle before her.
'Widow's Walk' acts as a transition between death acceptance into childhood acceptance. Tired of her age limiting her privileges Annie swaps ages with an elderly woman. Shocked by her transformation she finds a bottled message from the woman's husband. Desperate for her youth back Annie begs the woman to reverse their ages. Selfishly, the woman refuses due to her thinking that her husband's waiting for her at home not realizing he died in sea storm that turned the woman into a widow. Growing weaker daily Annie knows if she can't convince the woman of the truth she will die. When Annie feints in an attempt to reach the woman and true to its nature, Annie's panther appears at her side giving her strength to continue on. Obviously Annie's successful getting her age back. What's interesting are the contradictions between the elderly woman and Annie. Both characters fear death desperately clinging to life, but Annie's aware of death while the woman would rather delude herself of human mortality. At the climax the women's remorseful of her selfishness wishing she knew how to reverse her wish. Annie's regrets her wish understanding living in the present is better than living in living in the future.
Similarly 'World of Terror' along with 'Pen Pal' shows the girls' adolescence if their positive influences were absent in their lives. By befriending Jennifer and not meeting Riley, Annie and Maya become rebellious Goths. Maya no longer believes that she deserves good things; Annie pushes her friends away. Following this change, Alternate Annie's panther is a worthless tattoo, Alternate Maya begins bulling Riley for not letting her in her bedroom. . Deprived of hope or understanding our alternates protagonists cannot accept their pasts. Being Disney, these girls defeat their alternates. Annie through using her panther power, Maya through befriending Riley in the parallel universe.
These last three deal with Maya and Annie discovering the truth and making amends with their childhoods. In 'Forgiveness' Maya writes and letter to her father, Kermit, in an attempt to forgive him as part of Cory's homework assignment. That following day Kermit returns to town hoping what his daughter said in her letter was true. Unable to forgive Kermit, he leaves once more reducing Maya to tears. As a result Maya realizes she's forgiven herself for believing she had caused Kermit's departure. By forgiving herself, Maya's ability to accept her past and find a new father figure in Shawn Hunter when he adopts her in 'Goodbye.'
In the penultimate episode the characters travel to a Native American reservation as a break from touring. Unlike her friends Annie can't enjoy her day off with strange flashbacks coming to mind. Coyote possesses the tribe's leader when a little girl becomes lost in the forest, forcing Annie to remember her childhood memories. Years earlier the Thelon family visited a jungle for a research assignment, little Annie awakens before her parents do and wanders into the forests. She happens across a petrified tribal man and it's only when a poisonous snake attacks her she realizes the danger she's in. As her parents discover their daughter's disappeared, the man rushes her to his village in an attempt to save her life. With shaman magic, the man's father removes the venom and takes Annie to a location where her parents will find her. Grateful Annie sacrificed her life to save his son, the father promises to protect her all her life in the form of a panther. With full understanding of her childhood, Annie manages to accept her past as Maya did.
Conclusion
Girl Meets World and So Weird are different shows catering to wildly different audiences. Still, each character follows similar archetypes as well as themes people wouldn't expect of Disney Channel to allow on their network. More importantly, the fact that it does shows its capability to portray mature, darker subject matters for all audiences. Readers may disagree with my argument but these are shows the current generation should watch. Girl Meets World is a television show that my generation should watch. Someone even wrote a crossover fanfic of GMW and SVU. If a fan theorist could invent a theory that Disney and any crime universe are connected I would be ecstatic.
*2 – Walt Disney has had hell landscape stories since the 1930s. Silly Symphonies' 'Goddess of Spring' had Satan-Hades drag Persephone to Hell. Fantasia ended with the song 'Night on Bald Mountain' where Demon Satan tortures souls only stopped when Holy light/God intervenes. Frollo damns Esmerelda to Hell if he can't possess her and little mentions God and Satan. (Hunchback of Notre Dame) CoCo takes place primarily in the afterlife. Disney Channel could've done a Hell episode.
