this set of images comes with a winged apollo headcanon (,,,or canon ig??) His wing movements are usually very reserved, but when he gets really lost in thought, he will start hovering without noticing he’s doing it.
Realized after writing this that I never really explained how his fear of heights manifests, so allow me to here :33 :
Just like in canon, Apollo has a fear of heights that is stronger that Phoenix's. However, Apollo's doesn't kick in until he's x-distance above the ground, so he has no problem with hovering. As opposed to Phoenix, who hates the feeling of not having his feet on the ground (at least in the og trilogy).

i am in the silliest goofiest of all moods so i decided to take my top 3 ice creams of this summer and share with you which characters they remind me of the most. let me know if you think you are sillier and/or goofier by sending me your favourite ice cream
Tumblr media
at number 3 we have Arpeggio as Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche, and specifically the mini tub that comes in a box of four flavours. despite the flavour's Latin American roots, i think Arpeggio would savour it because he likes to indulge in different cultures as a certified genius. kinda sophisticated like him, and just like his time in the game, short and sweet
Tumblr media
number 2 is a cool remix of a childhood classic: blondie caramel Maxibon with the waffle. I've paired it with Rajan because the packaging is orange, duh but also because it has two different sides. the waffle is Rajan's regal facade, appealing to Westerners, whereas the ice cream bar side is rough and rocky just like the predator within
Tumblr media
the Kinder Bueno ice cream is paired with Carmelita and takes the number one spot this summer. is this coupling based on personal bias? maybe! the flavours here are so nostalgic and reimagined into ice cream form perfectly. the cone and hardened chocolate on top form a tough exterior but inside the core is soft and rich, just like Carmelita herself. 10/10 masterpiece

But your role really wasn’t that of some embodiment of Death. No, you were London’s guardian angel.
I started this months ago and I’m so very glad it’s finally done, even if I’m not entirely satisfied with it :d

Owl Reviews Stuff She Just Finished: Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright
So yk I didn't know what to expect going into this game, I'd seen really funny dialogue of it and mostly got it because I was extremely hyperfixated on Layton. But I did NOT expect such an emotional rollercoaster of a game with themes that tie into both Professor Layton and Ace Attorney and utilizes the strengths of each series so efficiently. I did not expect this game to make me cry. I did not expect this game to become one of my favorite Professor Layton AND Ace Attorney titles. But it did so I have to talk about it.
With two successful IPs on the cover this game could have easily been halfassed but every corner of it is full of passion for both titles. I mentioned before how they build off and complement each other and I think that's a result of the people working on this game having an in-depth knowledge of what makes PL and AA work and what their shortcomings are.
For example (I mentioned this in the liveblogs but may as well repeat myself here) Ace Attorney games are often limited to just the courtroom and investigation, not to mention you're not going to see 90% of the characters ever again after the case is done. This is serviceable for the kind of game AA is but it makes the world itself feel a bit uninteresting. However Professor Layton games have you confined to one town and make you explore it in depth, with recurring background characters who all have different (yet basic) personalities. Because of this, the Layton segments where you walk around town become crucial parts of the game where you can interact with future or past witnesses as they go about their lives, making these witch trials feel like they're taking part within an actual community, which make the emotional beats in the trials hit REALLY hard.
In turn, AA strengthens PL by adding variety. Layton games can be a bit monotonous if you're not engaged since the gameplay mostly consists of talking to people and solving an occassional puzzle, and there's a lack of interesting smaller mysteries to keep the audience engaged while they work on solving the bigger ones. But Ace Attorney games thrive on side stories, they're what make the trials so interesting! So by adding the smaller mysteries in the form of witch trials and mixing in clues about what the Hell is going on in Laberynthia you make a much more dynamic story that never feels like you're getting nowhere.
Enough about story structure and nerd stuff like that though, let's talk characters!
I love the main four and have always loved the main four so I'm not gonna talk abt them. The original characters for this game were freaking amazing. I see a lot of people really dislike Espella (which is understandable since she's probably the weakest of the cast) but she's pretty alright imo. She's going through a lot of things with the entire town despising her and [SPOILERS] so it makes sense why she would act the way she does, even then I feel like most heartfelt moments with her were a bit forced, which kind of lessens the impact of the last scene. I LOVE the relationship between her and [ANOTHER SPOILER] as well as the dynamic she has with Maya though.
I LOVE BARNHAM. He's one of my favorite prosecutors, he may not have any deep angst or trauma like so many of my favs do, but he's just a well meaning dude who thinks he's doing what he needs to to protect his town, even if it means casting wiitches into the flames. He also goes through a little character arc of his own where he also starts to bend the rules, the only laberynthian to do so. It's fun. Barnham is my best friend.
Unfortunately I can't talk about Darklaw or The Storyteller without getting into spoilers but basically: I love Darklaw and think she deserves the world, I'm on the fence about The Storyteller and feel like parts of his character were extremely rushed.
The secondary characters are also great, you have your classic goofy witnesses but also some really heartfelt characters and relationships in the trials, this is nothing new for Ace Attorney but when you include the conscious knowledge that these characters are going to be cast into the fire then these mini stories are enough to move me to tears (Looking at you, Golden Court).
Anyway, overall a fantastic experience that caught me completely off guard. No notes. I give it 10 burning witches out of 10.
Oh. And also:

Sometimes I like to entertain the concept of some ships specifically because they're a little silly but not take them seriously at all. Like Phoenix and Godot, it fits Phoenix's type of people who are mean to him and I specifically think that it's funny for Godot to tell Phoenix that he reminds him of his dead girlfriend like... that's a little fruity but ok.
I'm here to have fun and sometimes it's fun to consider things that do not make any sense but are ultimately, just a little funny.

two very different kinds of siblings
#cpuk#took me FOREVER to make mac and al Feel Right to me and just as long to properly execute on the vibe i knew i wanted for goog always#but pretty happy with these!#cpuk alabaster uppercut#cpuk juniper uppercut#cpuk google#cpuk mac and cheese#you ever call a character by a nickname shortening of their name so long that when you have to type their full name again#it hits you all over again how goofy it is. anyway mack encheez would be an entirely normal ace attorney character name#ive been thinking about Al a lot lately. the difference between him in season one and season 2 is interesting to try to reconcile#because in season one its very explicit- he has beef with The Tournament Itself and that was the only reason he was here.#he was an ideological pacifist who was publically mocked and only came to fight in cpuk to prove a point#when a kid from uppercut village was getting bullied because of contestants mocking him and the village.#but when season two rolls around hes a 'cpuk veteran' who's always fighting at locals and bettering the scene.#which leads me to assume Al arrived to CPUK and went 'damn bitch y'all live like this?' and set to work on repairing the vibes#especially since uppercut village has been utterly ignored by the lore since his introduction and with ncct information...#im not sure it... meaningfully exists? its a part of his concept and self that informs his actions but has never mattered.#and as such with the schrodingers isekai way that submission to cpuk works in nccts worldbuilding#i think it might be. just as unreachable as eric is to thera/folk. something from another reality hes just not part of anymore.#in his second tournament appearance he sets a goal of not coming in last and then he's retiring and he doesnt come in last.#but then he comes back.#imagining this dude trying to get a ride back home to uppercut village and the driver needing directions bc hes got no idea where that is#and al realizing he doesnt. know how to get there either. and so the only place he has to go is back to the tournament.#and the sense of community identity so core to himself he's named after it falters and hes left alone#and so he begins to build a new sense of community for himself out of the new home he's been left with. makes friends. adopts new family.#living in honor of the memory of a village that never was.#at least not here.#juni knows the participants of cpuk as family. uncle cha cha. mama hoedown.#in a sense both al and juni are adopted from elsewhere into the family they know.#smthn smthn 'it takes a village to raise a child.' i am speculating myself into getting emotional about funny punch guy 👍

My current tier list of the Ace Attorney games. In case it's hard to see which is which (+ also for screen readers):
S Tier: PWAA A Tier: AAI2, DD, JFA B Tier: AJAA, AAI C Tier: T&T D Tier: SoJ Haven't Played Yet: TGAA 1+2 No: PLvsPW
I really need to replay the sequel trilogy, because I know for a fact I only played DD and SoJ once each when they first released (and so much more time has elapsed since then than I realized, oof), and while I feel like I started an AJAA replay awhile ago, I can't remember when that was + I think I stopped on the fourth case for some reason. (Not because of the video recording of the concert, lol. I honestly think there was another reason. My memory is really fuzzy though, so I'm just not sure what that reason was. But I don't think it had anything to do with the game, I think it was a real life reason.)
Anyway, once I replay those games I'll be able to place them more firmly on this tier list. This is just where my feelings about them are at right now -- that I loved DD despite whatever flaws it has, I'm pretty sure I was really vibing with AJAA a lot on my replay before I stopped, and the only life preservers that saved SoJ from getting an F tier created for it were "The Magical Turnabout" and Rayfa. :) But we'll see how I feel when I get around to replaying them.
And then of course, the TGAA duology will be played at some point as well. I'm just not in as much of a hurry to get to that because I don't know those characters (yet) beyond the very brief interactions I had with the characters in the first case of the first TGAA, so I'm less motivated. But I'll get there eventually.
And I think I pushed Layton and his game into the harbor or something idk idk who he is.
#ace attorney#i actually did replay the original trilogy recently btw so their placements are FRESH#because while i have been a fan of this series since i was in high school#(which was literally half my lifetime ago now :') )#the way i am with things i like is like . . . i'll play and be really into it and then i'll wander away for awhile . . .#then come back . . . then wander away again . . . etc#and the HD remaster collections made it REALLY easy to come back and replay. & while i had replayed the first two og trilogy games a lot#i had never replayed T&T for some reason. and then i DID replay it this time and :') realized why that was#altho it does have two of my favorite side characters of all time (the DeLites) and I do love the Fey drama#so it has its good points too. there's a reason it's in C and not D#ANYWAY. my investment in Ace Attorney is p much solely with the games#i'll reblog official manga or screencaps of the movie or w/e from time to time but#i've never been interested in watching them & i was never one who wanted an ace attorney anime bc like#why would i want that . . . when the games exist & are so story heavy . . . they're perfect bc you're not just passively watching#you get to actually DO something while absorbing the story. for an ADHD monster like me it's so good at keeping my attention#no hate to anyone who likes the adaptations ofc!!! but they're just not for me#for me it's always just been the games. and i boomerang back to them every few years or so#(often when a new game is announced or localized lol)#anyway i really hope the next game is NOT a Gh*st Trick crossover . . . i tried the demo & didn't like the gameplay#and also i don't want a crossover. i just want to break Kristoph's psyche locks & for Apollo & Trucy to know they're siblings#that's all i want#p lease
