Making it from oldest to newest.
a dead love's buried beneath the dirt [Hangster]
Jake genuinely thought his day couldn't get any worse- a missed alarm, a spectacular hangover-induced headache and flying like Hangman does do not mix particularly well. As he walks out the bar, completely sober, he's relieved to put the day behind him.
That is, until he climbs into his car and a hand wraps around his throat from behind.
come what may [Tarlos]
The scene is a familiar one.
A four vehicle collision, a fire truck and four ambulances. TK's team is the last to arrive.
"I'm just saying," Nancy huffs, "I'm kinda the reason the reason you two got back together and I should be rewarded for it."
flying too close to the ground [Tarlos]
"My fiance's in there."
Officer Carlos Reyes said it quietly, but it still startled Daniel. He looked back at the man, wanting to make sure he heard right. "What did yo- Hey, whoah!" He lunged after him, managed to put a hand on his arm. It didn't stop him, but it slowed him down enough that he manged to stand in front of him. "What are you doing, huh? You wanna get yourself killed?!"
"Danny," he started, calm in a way that scared Daniel, "move or I will make you move."
Carnations [Tarlos, Hanahaki Disease AU]
"When I saw you in that hospital bed, not knowing if you would ever wake up, I had all these feelings- strong feelings, which is crazy because I still barely know you," Carlos started, then paused, hoping TK would say something, anything.
He didn't.
"I'm just confused," he confessed, "what are we? Are we even a 'we'?"
shot through the heart [Tarlos, Mob AU]
I'm not a murderer. I was trying to save him. I didn’t kill anyone. I was just trying to save him.
TK Strand sits in an uncomfortable metal chair, bloody hands handcuffed to a metal table, in an NYPD interrogation room.
You're in my heart like an Infection [Buddie]
"Why are you staring at Buck?"
Hen's voice startles Eddie enough that he nearly spills the hot coffee he just poured into his mug on his lap.
"He's always staring at Buck," Chimney mutters from where he's sitting beside him.
Eddie rolls his eyes, side eying his friend, then turns his attention back to Buck, who's staring at the coffee machine like it holds the secrets of the universe.
been you all along [Hangster]
When Helen shows up at his door, she's crying silently, her nose red and her eyes puffy.
She's also holding a sleeping baby to her chest, its head resting on her thin shoulders. Bradley stares at them both, stunned.
"I can't do this," she tells him, a shaking hand coming up to wipe the tears off her cheeks.
start anew
Six year old TK sat on the couch in his living room, clad in his firefighter costume and watching the door like a hawk, waiting for his father to come get him so they could go trick or treating. His mother came into the room and TK frowned when he saw the look on her face. She crouched in front of him, smiling softly. "Honey, I need to talk to you about something, okay?"
I'll hold you longer than forever [Buddie]
Falling in love with Evan Buckley has been the easiest thing Eddie has ever done.
Which is probably why it only registers when he sees Buck's limp body hanging from the ladder, completely, terrifyingly still. He screams his name, "Buck!"
Don't you dare die.
if my heart was a house, you'd be home [Hangster]
Jake wakes up to an excruciating amount of pain, in every inch of his body. When he opens his eyes, the room he's in is dark and gloomy, and the only sound in it is the beeping of the heart monitor. He tries to lift up his head, but it's awkward as hell with the neck collar he has on. He's helpless, and for a moment, the panic sets in and he's paralyzed with it.
eyes wide shut [Tarlos]
I can't do it, I really tried. I love you with all my heart, I just can't marry you, Carlos. I'm sorry. When Carlos pictured his wedding day, he saw vows whispered in hushed tones, misty eyes and bright smiles. He saw himself dancing with the man he loved, surrounded by the most important people in their lives, and it always ended with him and TK, in their own bed, in their own home, intertwined with a newfound wealth of love between them.

[12.43] mafia!seonghwa × reader
⇀ convinced his partner is trying to steal him away from you, you tried conveying your feelings to him. But he didn't believe you, he thought you're just simply jealous.
⇁ tw : mafia life, jealousy, angst, death
⇁ disclaimer : the author does not support any and all criminal/illegal acts. the narrative written in this story is purely fiction out of the author’s imagination. the things written here does not portray real mafia life nor is the author aware of how the mafia life is like. the author is a hermit loser.
Clad in his couture suit, Seonghwa walked into the party venue with you in his arms. You were wearing a beautiful, glimmering Indigo dress that accentuates your curves, earrings that provide shine to your face, and heels that seem to heighten your class.
Despite all that, you had a forced smile on your face as you just had an argument with Seonghwa in his car merely minutes prior.
He is well aware of your apprehension towards his current partner in crime, a female that done the title of a seductress in the organization both for her role and her daily behaviour. You can't even lie and say that she looks like an inside-out, bloated cow because she's beyond perfect. To make things worse, you heard that the reason why she was partnered with Seonghwa was that she and he look good together.
At first, it was harmless observation over the two, wanting to see their chemistry and whether or not what people said was true. But when you see that even outside of their mission she'd flirt and cling onto him, you feel threatened. Naturally, you told Seonghwa about this but he only brushed your feelings off, convincing himself and you that it's merely childish jealousy.
The issue was never addressed and it accumulates to the point that it became the bane of most of your arguments. So he decided to just avoid talking about anything that relates to his partner in any way.
This is why when he accidentally let it slip that she'd be at the party back in the car, you were slightly furious at him for not giving you a heads up.
So here you are, standing by the champagne tower as Seonghwa made his rounds alone only to be joined by his 'partner' when he talked to their ally.
Your hand was clenching the flute so hard, it was threatening to break any second.
"Whoah, never seen you so tense," a voice called out, breaking your focus of glaring at Seonghwa and her. You look towards the source of the voice only to be greeted with Wooyoung's teasing smirk.
You rolled your eyes at him but smiled at his teasing jab, "hi Woo," you greeted, letting him pull you into a deep hug that lasted a while.
"Givenchy," he stated after taking a whiff at your neck, "man has taste," he pulled away to properly take your attire in, going as far as twirling you playfully which made you giggle. The people around looked at you two with a smile, probably thinking about how cute you two looked together. Which didn't go unnoticed by Seonghwa who is now zeroing his vision in on you and Wooyoung as the girl next to him clung on his arm tightly, seemingly pretending like they're together.
"Where's Seonghwa hyung?" Wooyoung asked after he stopped twirling you, grabbing a flute of champagne instead. You rolled your eyes at the reminder and simply nod your head towards where Seonghwa and his partner stood before sipping the champagne.
Wooyoung cringed at the sight of the girl throwing herself onto a taken man but what bothered him was the fact that Seonghwa seemed to not be affected by it.
"How stupid is your boyfriend to still insist that your intuition is nothing more than jealousy? I mean seriously! She's embarrassing herself!" he groaned, knowing full well what's going on between you and Seonghwa.
You were glad that you're not the only one who realized, despite the person who shared your sentiment is not your boyfriend.
But before you can answer, loud gunshots shocked everyone and suddenly chaos broke.
Wooyoung immediately pushed you behind him as he produces a gun from inside his suit. He turned to you briefly to hurry you out, "go out now, run and don't look back, take the stairs by the balcony and get out of here as quickly as you can and do not try to hide," he said before rushing towards the sound of the gunshot before you could say anything else.
People were pushing you left and right, trying to escape the hall and so were you. But you can't find it in yourself to run just yet, you look around the crowd of people, trying to find Seonghwa.
Soon enough, your eyes met his.
"Seonghwa!" you called out, pushing your way to get to him as he was trying to get to you. But then another voice calling his name broke his attention away from you.
Seonghwa looked towards the source of the voice only to find his partner by the tables, her dress stuck between two tables and for some reason she didn't seem to be able to pull herself out.
If you weren't in such a panicked state, you'd roll your eyes and call her out on her bullshit.
Your eyes flit between her and Seonghwa as Seonghwa's flit between you and her. You were hoping that he'd ignore her and run to you instead so you both could go to safety.
But your heart broke when he shot you an apologetic look, mouthing out 'sorry' before running to help his partner.
You can actually feel your heart shatter seeing that in a dire situation, he had chosen the girl that you had explicitly told him you don't trust, that you think she has it in her to steal him away from you. But he didn't seem to care.
Slowly, your feet began moving on their own. You couldn't even register where your feet are dragging you to. But as you reach the door towards the balcony, you look back to the sight of Seonghwa holding his partner closely before going where the other members of his organization are going.
And that was the last time you had seen each other for the night.
The shoot out went for quite a while. Apparently, a rival organization caught wind of the party and decided to use this opportunity to infiltrate the mansion to steal something. Their plans were foiled and that's when all hell broke loose.
When Seonghwa and the others managed to kill and capture their rivals, things began to finally wind down. Most people had already fled the scene, being part of the criminal world surely gave them the knowledge of what to do when a shoot out happens.
There were some guests left, those who hid behind tables or were unable to escape due to fear, and sadly, those who were caught in the crosshairs.
Seonghwa sighed at the sight in front of him, bodies lying on the ground, some belonging to their rival, some were members of his organization, and some were the unfortunate guests.
He looked around to see the lower-ranking workers carrying bodies on a stretcher with a white cloth covering everything. His eyebrows furrowed at the sight, no matter how long he's been involved in the mafia life, he couldn't seem to shake his sadness away when seeing innocent victims.
As he looked around, he saw Wooyoung walking back to the hall where the party was held merely an hour ago. "Wooyoung!" Seonghwa called, running towards the guy to catch up to him. Wooyoung stopped in his tracks and looked back, waiting for Seonghwa, "Hey, what's up?" he asked nonchalantly.
"Have you seen (Y/N)? The last time I saw her was when I went to help my partner a-" "you helped your partner instead of making sure (Y/N) was okay?" Wooyoung cut him off, an incredulous look on his face. Seonghwa was caught off-guard at the tone his friend used at him, "yeah? She was stuck and needed my help, I couldn't just-" "she's a member of a fucking mafia, she kills people for a living and on a daily basis, you really think she couldn't have gotten herself unstuck?" Wooyoung scoffed.
Seonghwa only stared at Wooyoung with a confused expression, not knowing how to answer him nor how to defend his choice in the predicament after Wooyoung explained the situation his way.
Rolling his eyes, Wooyoung nodded towards the door by the table that once had the champagne tower, "Last time I saw her, I told her to run and get the hell out of here," he said simply. Seonghwa muttered a small 'thanks' to him and was about to run to look for you when Wooyoung put a hand on his shoulder, "Just so you know, what you did will change things forever between you two, you got a heck load of making up to do," he said simply before continuing his previous path.
He realized that Wooyoung was right. So he immediately set off to find you, wherever you are.
His instinct told him that you're still around, considering his car is still in the parking lot and that you hadn't known anyone else in the party, he deducted that it wouldn't be possible for you to have gone back.
Even so, you were nowhere to be found. He tried looking everywhere inside the mansion and outside in the garden, but there were no signs of you, not even when he asked the other guests and members of the organization that were still around.
He stepped out to the grand front entrance and look around but only seeing people carrying the bodies of the deceased. He was starting to get worried.
"Seonghwa!" a feminine voice called.
He snaps his head, hoping to see you, but only to be greeted by the sight of his partner jogging towards him. For the first time ever, he rolled his eyes at her and went back to trying to locate you.
She, on the other hand, didn't seem to get the hint as she suddenly hugged one of his arms, "Hey, I was looking everywhere for you, I was worried," she said, pouting at him.
Seonghwa tried to pry his arm off of hers, but she held tight. Wooyoung was right, she's beyond capable of getting herself unstuck, so why did he went to help her instead of you?
"I don't have time for this, I'm looking for my girlfriend," he said gruffly, still trying to push her off as his eyes trail on the people around.
"Oh, come on, I'm sure she's perfectly fine somewhere, maybe even with Wooyoung," she said ignorantly.
At the insinuation that you'd be with Wooyoung, Seonghwa snap his head towards her and was about to say something when suddenly the sight of your dress caught his eyes.
He'd recognize the sparkly indigo dress that he had personally picked for you from miles away. For a second, he forgot about his partner and was about to run towards you.
But his steps halted at the scene in front of him.
Seonghwa hadn't processed that the piece of your dress that he saw was from underneath a cloth that covered your whole body that's rested on a stretcher.
He could feel his heart stopped, his head spinning, and his breath hitching. He was trying to convince himself that you're okay, that you're simply unconscious and is resting, waiting to be taken to the hospital to be treated.
When he realized that a couple of workers were about to carry you away, he sprinted and yelled for them to stop.
As soon as he arrived by your side, his trembling hands held on the piece of dress that peeked out. Again, he tried convincing himself that everything's okay, that maybe this is not you. Slowly, he pulled the cloth back a little to expose your hand. The ring that he had bought you to commemorate your 2nd anniversary brought dread to him for the first time ever. He used to love seeing it on your finger, showing people that you're taken, but not this time.
Bracing himself, he pulled the rest of the cloth off of you. "Oh no," he choked out and finally broke down when he saw your pale, lifeless face. The same face that greeted him every morning and accompanied him every night, the same face that would scrunch up whilst cleaning his wound when he came back home from a mission. The same face that dropped in disappointment when he decided to go after the other girl in her last moments.
He can't believe your last memory of him was him turning his back on you, his last conversation with you was when he called your feelings childish and uncalled for, that the last time he held your beating heart was when he pushed you away so he could talk to people he didn't even care for.
All he could do now is held onto you as he cried, hand going over the wound that ultimately ended your life. Several bullet holes littered your body, but he seems to be focused on the one that's directly on your heart. He thought about how much pain your heart must've born, how much the pain he inflicted on you must've hurt much more than the bullet that struck through. He thought about how he should've gone to you to ensure your safety.
Seonghwa, the usually reserved and collected man, didn't even care about the attention he drew. People around were looking at him with much pity, those who knew him wanted to comfort him but didn't know how to, even Wooyoung can't help but shed his pettiness over his older friend when seeing him wailing over his loss.
But Seonghwa didn't care.
How could he?
When the only important person in his life was ripped away from him before he could make amends.
Without thinking twice, he stood up and carried you off the stretcher. The workers that were supposed to take care of the deceased stood silent and unsure, yet they didn't stop Seonghwa even when he began to carry you towards his car.
"Don't worry, I'm taking you home so you can rest," he said with tears still streaming down his face. He looked down at your face, he could fool himself and say that you're only sleeping, that tomorrow things will be better. Yeah, for now, he can do that.
Once he put you on the front seat securely and went over to the driver's seat, he leaned down and press a kiss to your forehead lovingly, "I'm never gonna leave you anymore," he said before turning the car engine on and drove off.

Ch. 00 Pt. I : To-Not-Do-But-Actually-Do List | JJ Maybank × fem! reader
a/n : I wrote this between last night and this morning. It's not my first time writing fanfic but it is my first one of JJ Maybank. I always delete my works thinking they ain't good enough. Hopefully I won't delete it this time and when I get some breaks I can keep writing. Anyways to whoever stops and reads: Thank you very much and enjoy the story!
tw: underage drinking, smoking, slight mention of anxiety (it's barely there).
There's a small conversation in Spanish but I clarified what is being said.
word count: 3.0k+
You were studying for an upcoming test. It was Friday evening and you were sure nobody liked to study on Friday evenings just when the school week had come to an end. But you had nothing better to do. Well, you were invited to a kegger by your friends, which you were seriously considering going to since you already knew the material and didn’t know what to do now. But you were unsure about parties. One goes to have fun, right? But fun usually means getting drunk, high or hooking up. And you weren’t about to do any of them. But you figured it wouldn’t hurt to put in practice your socializing skills.
You told your parents you were going out for the night. They looked at you oddly, but didn’t say anything, only wishing you had a good time, telling you to be safe and to call once you got there, once you were on your way back and if something came up. Of course, they also asked who you were gonna be with, where were you gonna be, if someone was going to pick you up, who would bring you home. The whole interrogation.
After taking a shower and dressing up, you called your friends hoping someone could give you a ride. Luckily for you, your best friend hadn’t arrived yet and was close by. He was always late for everything so you kind of figured that’s how it would be.
“Hey pretty lady.” , he smirked at you as you got on the bike behind him, arms around his torso, “What made you change your mind?”
“Got bored.”, you answered simply.
“That 's weird. You're not one to get bored. But guess we’re actually having fun tonight so let ‘s go!” he answered, hyped as ever, you chuckled as he drove off to the beach.
You lost sight of him as soon as you stepped on the beach. And that's on having fun tonight together, huh. “So, now what?” You asked yourself looking around for some familiar faces. You managed to spot some of your friends among the crowd but they seemed to be having fun engaged in conversation and you didn’t want to burden them. Yeah you had just arrived and you already were starting to regret coming, and being surrounded by a squirming crowd, all dancing and moving around wasn’t helping. You made a haste turn and gasped when you felt something spill over your top.
“Oh dammit.” The boy cried over the spilled drinks. Some had gotten on his T-shirt too. “I mean shit, I’m sorry dude. It was kinda your fault too though.” You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help but smile as you looked up. “Oh shit. Sorry Y/N.”
“You’re great with apologies, Maybank.” He smiled back, but he grimaced seeing your ruined shirt. You noticed and looked down, the thin fabric of your blouse letting into view your bra. You crossed your arms over your chest trying to make it better, looking up at him again and smiling awkwardly to try and hide your embarrassment. But he could make out your flushed cheeks and your discomfort. He felt his own cheeks get warmer at the fact you caught him staring and that you crossing your arms definitely didn’t help.
“I try my best. Care for a drink?” He offered you the one cup that didn’t spill over you. You scrunched your nose and nodded your head hesitantly, reaching for it. “Actually, can you wait here for a sec.?” You nodded again and there he left you, looking around awkwardly waiting for him to get back. You looked at your drink, swirling the liquid in the cup, questioning if you should drink it. You had never drinked before. And you were alone, well, JJ was with you but you didn’t know if he was actually coming back or if he had just grabbed the opportunity to spare you from your embarrassment. You took a sip, making a face - there goes the no drinking thing you were talking about- and you saw JJ approach, eyes squinted looking for someone. He spotted you and smiled as he came to a stop in front of you, holding a drink and a sweatshirt. He offered the sweatshirt to you “Here.”
“Oh, um, thanks.” He held your drink as you put his sweatshirt on. It was like two sizes bigger. You extended your arms making a silly pose and he approved, making you do a little spin.
“Never seen you around one of these before. Didn’t think it was something you liked.” He started walking, you by his side.
“I actually don’t like it. You just bumped into me right when I started to panic about being here.” You said jokingly although it was actually the truth. JJ let out a laugh. “But I thought I might do something different tonight. Get out of the comfort zone, you know?”
“And how’s that going?” He questioned, you could see a smile hidden by the rim of his cup. You smiled.
“Not bad. I’m actually talking with someone, I had my first drink…” You said, and downed the last of said drink. “Not a fan of them to be honest.” you made a face and blinked a few times, not liking the taste.
“No way.” He said incredulously. You nodded, letting out an affirmative sound. “ What would people think of me for corrupting Y/N Y/L/N?”
“So bad of you.” you played along. “Nah, it’s just one drink. As long as you drink moderately it’s fine. Also I could’ve refused, so you’re not corrupting me.” You shrugged, then widened your eyes because of all your blabbering. “I went too deep on that joke. I'm sorry.” You smiled nervously, smoothing your hair. He just laughed.
“That ‘s fine. You have no idea how much shit I can talk. My friends are shutting me up all the time. Wait- Not that you were talking shit- Oh God.” It was your turn to laugh about how conflicted he looked. He smiled and calmed down seeing that you didn’t take it wrong.
There was a beat of silence before he spoke up again, “So… You wanna go somewhere more quiet?” The question caught you off guard. He sensed your hesitation and rushed to explain. “I mean, since you don’t really like parties. Thought you might want to head over to somewhere else? You don’t have to if you don’t want to. “
You nodded, “Wait, but what about you? I don’t wanna make you leave.” you worried
He brushed it off. “There’s always more of these.”
So you both went further down the beach, the sounds from the party heard from a distance. You sat down and saw him take out something from his pockets. “Do you mind if I burn one?” You shook your head. He lighted it up and took a hit, slowly letting the smoke out after. You caught yourself staring, and he also caught you, showing you a smirk, “You probably haven’t smoked before either, right?” He said mockingly. You pushed him jokingly, then overthinking about if you weren’t getting too confident around him. You hadn’t spoken more than a couple times before.
“No, I haven’t.”
“Such a good girl.” he cooed, “I shouldn’t be the one to make you drink and smoke in the same night but, who’s better than me?” He offered you the blunt.
“Yeah right.” you answered sarcastically, and once again hesitated but took it from his hand - there goes the “no smoking”. The same night, in less than an hour. You just need to hook up with someone and you shall check out your To-Not-Do-But-Do List-. You looked at it and proceeded to put it in your mouth.
“Easy there.” He warned as you inhaled the smoke. You coughed it out, laughing as he caressed your back, trying to ease you.
“Whoah.” you blinked a few times as you tried to get used to it. And that's how you spent the rest of the night there talking and smoking. Usually you had trouble making conversation but with the help of the alcohol and weed you were more easy going tonight, mostly talking nonsense and laughing at everything, which had JJ glancing at you with an amused smile. “Yeah, she definitely had never smoked before.” He saw as you scrunched your nose, suddenly, and smelled his sweatshirt that you were wearing. “I smell like weed.” You said, disgusted. Apparently, you forgot you were smoking. “And I’m wearing a boy’s sweatshirt.” Your eyes widened as you lifted your arms and looked at the sleeves of his sweatshirt as they dangled when you moved them around. “My parents are gonna kill me. Twice!” You cackled almost hysterically, which made JJ burst in laughter too at the sight of you.
It was a little past midnight and after running out of energy, you had fallen asleep profoundly, leaning over JJ, your head resting on his shoulder. He didn't bother to wake you up at first, being very comfortable with how you two were. But then he almost fell asleep too and it was pretty late so he gently tried to shove you awake. “Y/N.” you grunted, and tried to ignore him. “Y/N we have to go. It 's late. Don’t wanna fall asleep here for some creep to come and kill us.”
“You can fight them.” you mumbled. “You look like a very brave courageous prince.”
“Do I now?” He looked at you, trying to hold back a smile. “Yeah this prince you’re talking about is lacking money. And sleep. So let 's go.” He helped you stand up. You made eye contact with him and your eyes widened. “What now?” he questioned, amused.
“Your eyes are very pretty.”
“Oh you’re gonna make me blush. C’mon, I can give you a piggyback ride until we meet with John B.” In fact, he did blush a little by the intensity of your gaze. Not that you would notice being as you were right now. You fell asleep again almost immediately once on his back, your head resting on top of his. He almost dropped you when you got too relaxed and your grip around his shoulders got a little too loose. He hoped John B hadn’t left. He didn't feel like walking all the way to the château. He figured you’ll stay with them. He didn't know where you lived and even if he did he wasn’t about to drop you off high out of your mind.
“Hey, I was looking all over for you. Kie and Pope already left.” John B started as he looked at your sleeping figure being carried by his friend, his curious eyes making the question for him already but he spoke nevertheless, “You’ve been with her all this time?”
“Yeah. She’s out like a light. And she doesn’t look like it but she’s starting to feel heavy so let’s get to the Twinkie. Also, have you seen my backpack? I thought I left it around here." He started to make his way to the van, John B keeping his pace.
“ Yeah, I grabbed it when I started looking around for you." He said before saying what he really wanted to say at that moment, "Listen, man, I know you… Are JJ, " He missed the puzzled look JJ was giving him, "Like the JJ Maybank. Big time player. But Y/N. Out of all people? How did you even get with her? We actually know her and it would suck to hurt her feelings.”John B kept going, just astounded with how far JJ could go.
“We didn’t do anything of whatever you’re imagining.” JJ squinted his eyes at him. “I bumped into her and we stayed together after that, we chatted, drinked, smoked a little…”
“You let her smoke? Since when does she smoke?”
“Since today man, I don’t know. And it’s not like I forced her to do it. She can make her own decisions. Also she was with me so it’s not like something would have happened to her.” John B raised a brow, “At least nothing that she didn't want.” He opened the sliding door of the van. “Just help me out, dude. Geez, you’re supposed to be my best friend bro. Wouldn’t hurt to show a little trust.”
“Precisely because I am your best friend is why I care about it.” He helped JJ get you inside of the van.
“If someone was looking at us they would say we’re kidnapping her.” John B stated as he made his way to the driver’s seat and started the Twinkie. JJ took a seat, while you laid there sleeping, your head resting on his lap. He made sure you wouldn’t move and smack your face with the van or fall to the floor. When they arrived at the Château, they both helped you out of the van and got you inside the house. JJ went to bother a sleeping Kie, asking her to help you get changed out of your clothes, though he thought you looked cute with his sweatshirt on.
_________________
You woke up, slightly disoriented but well rested. The smell of food reached your senses. Stretching, you looked around and saw you were sleeping next to Kiara Carrera. How the hell did you get there?
“Goodmorning.” she said, startling you.
“Good- Morning?” You stared at her. Kie saw the confusion in your expression and smiled. Teasing a little wouldn’t hurt anyone.
“Did you enjoy last night?” Kie asked, and purposely got a bit closer, looking at your lips.
“What?”
“You don’t remember?” she clicked her tongue. “That’s a shame though.”
“What? No! No. I do remember.” Kie raised a brow, “ No, I was with JJ-” you stopped yourself, “Not! Not in a sexual way.” You rushed to explain. Sheepishly, fidgeting with your hands, you looked up at her again. “Did we really…” God,I thought I was straight. I mean, I am straight. Kie is really pretty though. God you just had sex for the first time and you don’t even remember, you shook your head to stop the nonsense that were your thoughts at the moment.
At that point, Kiara couldn’t hold it anymore and started laughing at the conflict you were having in your head, your troubled state written all over your face.
“You two! Come and get breakfast before we eat all of it. And Kie, stop messing with Y/N.” You heard John B and JJ shout from the kitchen. You were really hungry, now that they mentioned food. And it smelled really nice earlier. You both got up and went to the dinner table, where you found JJ fixing up a plate for you. He motioned for you to sit. “Goodmorning.” He said, giving you a smile. “You good?”
Nervously, you greeted him back, nodding. You probably made some trouble for them last night, especially for JJ. You all sat at the table, chatting and recalling stuff from last night. Guess you still were straight, and didn’t hook up with Kie. She was just taking advantage of you not being able to process anything too well before eleven in the morning and making fun of you. You were enjoying yourself but,
“I should be going home.” you said, excusing yourself.
“I can go with you. Also, your phone went off a few times this morning while you were sleeping.” JJ mentioned casually as he stood up after you.
“You don’t have to do that.” You told him but he brushed you off, saying it was no problem. “Oh my God, my phone! I mean, my parents! They’re totally gonna kill me!” The other two held their laughter towards your distressed face and JJ grimaced as he motioned for you to follow him and you went to the room he always stayed in. He gestured towards your clothes and your phone. He had washed your clothes earlier after he woke up. When you looked at your phone’s screen, you saw all the missed calls you had from your mom, your dad, even your brother. Your stomach dropped.
“You didn’t tell them you were going out?” JJ asked.
“I did! I just never said I was going to stay at someone else’s place!” As if on cue, your phone went off again. You both looked at each other and you answered, already grimacing at what was coming.
“Hey ma’.”
JJ frowned, your voice sounded different for a moment. Then he heard a loud voice from the other end of the call, most likely your mom’s. He couldn’t make out what she was saying because it was in Spanish? and she was talking way too fast in a hysterical tone. He looked curiously as he heard you both.
“¡No! Mami estoy bien. Es que se hizo tarde y me quedé en casa de Kiara.” You lied, saying you stayed over at Kie’s as your mom asked you who the hell was Kiara. “Una amiga, ma. Perdón que no dije nada. Ya voy para allá. Sí, sí, bye.” You sighed. “I’m grounded.” you fake smiled and looked over at JJ. He gave you an apologetic look. “Well I don’t really go out much.” You laughed nervously. “I should go. I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused you guys.”
“Yeah, yeah, no I mean, not at all.” JJ answered awkwardly, a hand brushing his hair back as he smiled at you nervously.
They let you take a shower and change back to your clothes before making your way out. You thanked them, and both you and JJ made your way out of the château and back to your house. You decided to walk, since it wasn’t too far. You stopped a couple houses before yours, telling JJ that going back after staying out the night without telling anybody and coming back home with a boy was just you asking to get yourself killed. He laughed, telling you that he understood.
“I have no problem introducing myself to them. Since I am indeed very brave and courageous and all.” He teased, trying to see if you remembered what you said to him last night. You did remember, but did your best to play it off as if you didn’t, feeling kinda embarrassed. He laughed it off when you looked at him as if you didn’t know what he was talking about, a little hurt but he wouldn't make a big deal about it. You were high as a kite anyways. “Forget it.” he finished with a sigh. “See you around?” He asked, hopeful
“Sure. See ya around.” You gave him a hug, then started to make the rest of your way back to your house. You turned to look at him once more and gave him a smile and a small wave. He smiled and waved back. It would be hard to take that smile off his face for the rest of the day.

Feeling. J. Wooyoung
Wooyoung x fem!reader College au!, Soulmate au! WC: 4.9k Summary: You were one of the few who actually had a soulmate, shame you though the whole idea of love was artificial. Warnings: mentions of panic attack, language,
*12 years ago*
“Y/n got her soulmate mark!” Yeosang, your best friend shouted to the rest of the class a few seconds after the heart shaped scar bloomed on your skin; a moment you would never forget. The whole class ran over to you, shoving one another to see the mark that had just appeared on your skin. You were the first kid in your class to get a soulmate mark, so to say everyone was excited was an understatement.
“A heart? What’s a heart mean?” asked Mingi, another boy in your class. “Love” Yeosang said in a ‘duh’ tone that made you giggle. “Actually, it means Y/n will be able to feel what her soulmate feels, and they’ll be able to feel what she feels.” Your teacher explained, earning a chorus of ‘oh’s’ from you and your classmates. After everyone got a look at your mark your teacher was quick to get everyone back in their seats to resume class. You looked down at your wrist, a smile coming to your face as your heart swelled, “I have a soulmate” you whispered happily to yourself.
*Present*
You let out a sigh as you quickly cover up your soulmate mark with multiple bracelets, not wanting to look at it any longer. The day you found out you were one of the few who had a soulmate, you couldn’t have been more happy, but as you grew up, you realized your soulmate mark came with the watching eyes of everyone who saw it.
Soulmates were a bit of a rare occurrence, so when people saw anyone with a soulmate mark it grabbed their attention. Whether people were jealous or just curious about the phenomenon, everyone you had ever met only care about the stupid mark on your wrist. The only people who didn’t care were your best friends, Yeosang and Mingi. They both had marks of their own, but unlike you, they didn’t mind the prying eyes, the only thing they cared about was finding their soulmate.
“You can’t hide it forever you know,” Yeosang teased as he walked into you room, not even bothering to knock. “I can try” you huffed back in response. “What happens when you meet your soulmate, are you still gonna hide it” “probably” “dude seriously?”
Normally, when people find their soulmate, they proudly put themselves on display: showing off their mark, being overly affectionate in public, and over all just sucking up any attention they could get. It was disgusting.
“Yeah, seriously,” you stated. “I wouldn’t like that if I was your soulmate, I’d wanna show off our bond.” Yeosang stated, making you roll your eyes. Before you could respond with some witty comeback, a sudden wave of sadness hit you like a truck. Tears welled up in your eyes for god knows what reason and you felt like you had a lump the size of a baseball in your throat, it was awful. “What- whoah, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you upset- no no no don’t cry” Yeosang said frantically as he tried to calm you down. You tried to explain that it wasn’t him, but the only thing that left your mouth was a sob.
“Heyy- What the hell did you do” Mingi said as he walked into your apartment, quickly rushing to your side and pulling you into his arms. “I didn’t do anything-” “of course you did something, it’s you” “Hey-” “shut up, please” you managed to say through sobs.
As much as you hated your soulmate bond, you hated that your soulmate was feeling like this even more. It made you wonder what happened and if they were okay, if someone was with them to help them.
After about five minutes of you sobbing, you finally calmed down enough to explain what happened. “Ah your soulmate bond! I thought you really were upset with me” “good” you sniffled, “maybe this will teach you to stay out of my business” “hmm” Yeosang pretended to be deep in thought before tackling you, “nah I’m good.” “Group hug!” Mingi shouted before pulling both you and Yeosang into his arms.
For the rest of the day you had this lingering sadness and the lump in your throat never went away. You never really gave much thought to your soulmate before, but today you just couldn’t stop your mind from wandering. There was this urge to find them and hold them and reassure them that everything would be okay. You tried pushing those thoughts away, you didn’t even want a soulmate, so why were you so concerned? You tried to convince yourself it was just because you were a nice person, but there was a deeper reason and you could feel it, no matter how hard you tried to deny it.
You now sat at one of your favorite cafes with Mingi and Yeosang. You had went there to study, but no one was studying. Mingi was trying to balance a spoon on his nose, Yeosang was making sure Mingi would fail at that task, and you were recording all of it. Soft giggles left your mouth as Yeosang pushed Mingi for the third time, making the spoon fall to the ground. “Dude, come on-” Mingi pouted, shoving Yeosang back. “-I almost had it!” “Yeah I know, that’s the point” Mingi picked up the spoon from the ground and threw it a Yeosang, hitting him right in the forehead. You let out a loud laugh, all but snorting at the look on Yeosang’s face. The two bickered like two little kids for a while, giving you a front row seat to another one of their entertaining arguments. You were so distracted by your two best friends that you didn’t even realize the lump in your throat was gone.
--
Wooyoung lied in bed, a small smile on his face as he felt the urge to laugh. His soulmate was happy. He had been hurting all day, and he could only imagine what that did to his soulmate, so feeling them feel so care free- it made him happy. All Wooyoung ever wanted for his soulmate was for them to be happy, and he couldn’t stand when he would feel you hurt. He found it funny how quickly you would get annoyed or frustrated, he honestly just couldn’t wait to meet you.
After a while of just enjoying feeling okay, he looked over and saw it was actually getting pretty late and he had an 8am class tomorrow. He had already skipped class today, he couldn’t skip tomorrow too. So he quickly got ready for bed, slowly falling asleep with a warm feeling in his chest and a smile on his face.
“Feeling better” San asked as he plopped his stuff down next to Wooyoung. They had both shown up to class early, which was weird for the two who were normally the last ones into their classes. “Yeah, I’ll be good man” “that’s good, because we’re parting tonight.” San excitedly as he took his seat next to Wooyoung. Wooyoung had been down for the past few days and yesterday was the tipping point, San just wanted him to go out and let loose.
Wooyoung let a chuckle slip past his lips as he shook his head. “I don’t feel like going to another frat party-” “well it’s not a frat party because we’re throwing the party- just come on man” San whined as he all but begged his friend. “I’ll think about it.” Wooyoung sighed. He pulled out his laptop and textbook, getting ready for class when he heard the door get busted open. Everyone turned to the door to see two guys scrambling to stand up, and a girl, trying to get away from the two as quick as possible.
“You started it- hey, don’t run away from us!” The taller of the two shouted at the girl as she rushed to get a seat. She pretended like she didn’t hear them and sat two rows in front of San and Wooyoung. The two boys were quick to sit next to her, the shorter boy wrapping his arm around the girl as the taller one sat on her lap. “You two are so embarrassing- get off.” The girl whined as she tried to pry herself away from the two.
Wooyoung watched in amusement, they were definitely going to make this new semester interesting. He seem couldn’t pull his attention away from the trio, more specifically, the girl. She was beautiful, her smile was enchanting and her laughter made his heart swell, she was the type of girl people wrote songs about.
San noticed his friends staring and smiled. Wooyoung had always been faithful to a soulmate he had never met. He never had other relationships and he never gave into crushes he deemed “small” and “silly” all because he had a soulmate. Now here he was, ogling over a girl he didn’t know.
“Why don’t you go talk to her” San suggested, making Wooyoung snap out of his gaze. “Huh, why?” “because you think she’s cute” “I have a soulmate” “and you're not gonna know how to treat them if you’ve never been in a relationship” “then I learn with them” “what makes you think your soulmate's never dated anyone before?” Wooyoung had never considered that, but why would his soulmate date someone else if they knew they would end up with him- their soulmate. Wooyoung shook his head, trying to get rid of the jealous feeling that rose in his chest. He had no right to be jealous; he tried to reason to himself, but he couldn’t help it.
San saw him overthinking and sighed, “look, you’re just gonna have a nice friendly conversation with her, you’ll be fine.” Wooyoung thought for a moment, and San was right, he was just going to talk to her, nothing else. “Fine.”
--
After class you, Mingi, and Yeosang gathered your things and got ready to leave. “Be honest, the professor was totally checking me out, right?” You froze, giving Mingi an incredulous look before remembering, “It’s Mingi.” So with a small giggle you nodded, deciding to entertain his delusions. “Yeah Min, She was totally checking you” “I sense sarcasm; I will ignore.” Both you and Yeosang laughed as you continued to pack up, shaking your head at you crazy friend.
“Uh hey” the three of you snapped your heads up and saw two rather attractive guys standing in front of you. One had pink hair and cat like eyes that would probably be scary if he wasn't smiling. The other guy- he was breathtaking. He had jet black hair and the most enchanting eyes- whoa. “Um, hi” you replied, silently wondering if your heart speeding up was you or your soulmate.
“We’re throwing a party tonight and you guys seem… fun, so we were wondering if you wanted to come?” The one with black hair asked as he shot you a smile. Okay so the heart thing was definitely you, got it. You took a deep breath and looked back at your friends, who were already looking at you with puppy dog eyes. They knew you didn’t like parties, but they loved parties, and loved to make new friends. Mingi even grabbed onto your hand like a toddler and pouted out his lip. Letting out a sigh, you turned back to the two boys and nodded, “we’ll be there-” “yes!” The two boys behind you cheered, making you try to hold in a laugh, “um, I can give you my number and you could text me the address?” “yeah, sounds good.” The two of you quickly exchanged numbers and then the five of your exited the class before parting ways.
“They were cute” Mingi sighs as he looks dreamily into the distance. “Yeah, and one of them was totally checking out Y/n” “Ha, I beg your pardon?” Yeosang smirks as he pulls you in closer. “Come on Y/n, don’t tell me you're blind? The dude you gave your number to was totally checking you out” “well it doesn’t matter” you say simply, trying to ignore the feeling of heat rising to your cheeks. Was he really checking you out?
“You know, for someone who rejects the idea of her soulmate so much, you’ve been awfully loyal to them.” Yeosang points out, “huh?” “You’ve never been in a relationship, you never entertained anyone who had romantic feelings for you, hell you even stepped on Nicks foot when he asked you out” “yeah but Nick was a dick” Mingi interjected.
Okay, so maybe it was true you’ve never tried to pursue a romantic relationship with anyone, but you didn’t think that had anything to do with your soulmate. You had rejected the idea of love a long time ago. Nowadays, a relationship was another accessory everyone wanted to show off, and you didn’t want to feel like a human handbag. People who found their soulmates often just assumed they would work out just because they were soulmates, they didn’t try to make the whole process of falling in love special, they just flaunted their soulmate marks and relationships. You didn’t want to end up like that, ever.
--
The party had been going on for about an hour in Wooyoung, San, Jongho, and Yunho’s shared apartment and was now filled with people, most of which Wooyoung didn’t even know. Sure, Wooyoung was a social butterfly and had probably talked to almost everyone there, but that didn’t mean he knew them or even their names. Wooyoung lets out a sigh, leaning up against the wall as he sips his drink quietly. The only person Wooyoung actually wanted to see right now was you, but you were nowhere to be found.
“Hey, this is your party, right?” Some girl asks as she comes up to Wooyoung. “My roommates party, but yeah sure” “well it’s really great” she said cheerily as she looks up at him with a bright smile. Wooyoung nods, truly uninterested in what the girl had to say. “Mhm, it’s super” the girl giggles, leaning closer to Wooyoung who doesn’t even spare her a glance. “You seem to be the only one not having fun.” She says with a pout, and Wooyoung is about ready to just start ignoring her, but then he sees you walk in the room with your friends. He felt relief and excitement wash over him when his eyes landed on you “Excuse me.” Was all Wooyoung said to the girl as he quickly made his way over to you.
“You made it” Wooyoung cheers as he approaches the three of you. You smile and nod, looking around the crowded apartment for a brief moment, how do so many people fit in this small ass place, you wonder. Yeosang places a hand on your shoulder before telling you he’s gonna go get you guys some drinks and you nod. Wooyoung directs him to the kitchen and he ends up taking Mingi with him, leaving you and Wooyoung alone, well as alone as you can be in a crowded room.
“I didn’t think you’d come” “I thought about it, trust me” you only half joked, parties really weren’t your thing. “Well I’m glad you did, my night just got a whole lot better” he said as he gave you a sweet smile. You could’ve swore your heart skipped a beat, your eyes widening slightly at his comment. Wow this boy was smooth. “I’m sure your night was just fine without me” you teased as you tried to play off your mini panic. “Sure, it was fine, but now it’s better.” You just started at him, trying to push your butterflies deep, deep down. What the heck was up with this guy and why were you so affected by him?
Wooyoung smiled at your reaction, trying to push his own butterflies to the side, but he really couldn’t, not when you were staring at him all cutely. He had to fight back the urge to pinch your cheeks, crossing his arms to help him out a bit. He was just as confused as you were, he had never felt so… interested by anyone like this before, it made his heart pound in his chest.
You quickly averted your gaze to try and stop the heat spreading to your cheeks, and that’s when you noticed your two friends had abandoned you for some guys from your psychology class, Hongjoong and Seonghwa you think their names are. “Well that’s rude” “you mumbled under your breath, and Wooyoung heard you, following your gaze before laughing. “Come on, let’s get you a drink,” he said. He placed his hand on the small of your back and you quickly jumped away, feeling like you had been shocked.
The two of you stared at each other. Did he feel it too? Wooyoung, out of curiosity, looked down at your wrist, only to see it covered with a copious amount of bracelets. You too, looked at his wrist and you felt the urge to vomit when you saw the same little heart scar that you had stared at every day since you were nine on his wrist. It had to be a coincidence, right? It didn’t matter, you suddenly felt hot, like someone had set you on fire and your breathing became uneven and heavy, you had to get out of there. Quickly turning on your heels, you rushed out of the apartment, rushing down the stairs to get as far away as you could.
Wooyoung was hot on your heels though, following behind you as soon as you left. “Y/n, Y/n slow down” Wooyoung called after you. The look on your face before you ran out had him so worried. Your eyes were wide, mouth slightly agape as your breathing started to pick up, he just wanted to know you were okay.
After running for a while, the thoughts in your head running rampant, you became light headed. You could barely stand up straight anymore, scraping both your palms and knees as you fell to the sidewalk. Wooyoung felt his heart drop when you fell and rushed to your side as quickly as he could. “Hey Y/n, you okay, just breath. In and out like this, can you do that?” “N-no- I- too much” “Y/n, hey Y/n look at me.” Wooyoung cupped your face, forcing you to look at him as he helped you calm down.
He knew then that you were his soulmate, because he could feel all of it, the light headedness, the heart racing, the fear that had built up in the pit of his stomach, he knew. So once you were calm and in his arms, he let out a shaky sigh, holding you a bit tighter as he looked down at you. He had dreamed about meeting his soulmate for so long, never did he imagine that his soulmate would get a panic attack upon finding out. All he wanted was for you to feel safe and happy around him, not scared and vulnerable.
The two of you sat there in silence on the side of the sidewalk for about 30 minutes, he still held you in his arms and you allowed him, feeling an odd sense of comfort from his hold. The two of you would get strange looks from passerbyers but you didn’t care, not right now.
“Thank you” were the first words out of your mouth as you pulled away to look at him. Wooyoung just nodded, keeping his hand on your back, rubbing it gently as if to reassure you. “I should go home” you said quietly as you stood up, “let me walk you” “you don’t-” “I’m not letting you walk alone at night.” His voice was gentle, but his tone also told you there was no room for argument, he was going to make sure you got home safe.
The entire walk was silent, Wooyoung was trying to figure out what to say to you. How was he meant to start a conversation with his soulmate who seemed so freaked out about having a soulmate? Wooyoung wanted to let out a loud groan of frustration and fall to the floor like a toddler throwing a fit, but he didn’t. Instead he turned to look over at you, letting a small sigh fall from his lips. “Can I ask you something?” Wooyoung finally speaks, making you stop to look at him. You nod, having a feeling you knew what he was going to ask. “Why are you so afraid” “I’m not” he gave you an unamused look before holding up his wrist. “I can feel what you feel, remember?” Damn this stupid fucking bond, you mentally cursed. You know he deserved an answer, he was your soulmate and was equally affected by whatever was going on in your life as you were, but you didn’t know him, you didn’t feel comfortable opening up to him, not yet. “Will you be mad if I tell you I can’t tell you” “can’t or won’t” “won’t” you answered truthfully. Wooyoung let out a soft sigh before shaking his head, “I won’t be mad, if you're not comfortable I’m not going to push you-” There was a beat of silence as he ran his hand through his hair as he tried to calm down his frustration. “Will you tell me eventually?” “I don’t know… I hope so” you answer truthfully. That seems to be enough for Wooyoung as he nods and takes your hand in his, motioning for you to lead the way.
--
It had been two days since the party and you hadn’t seen Wooyoung since, and for some reason, it was killing you. You felt like a total sellout, just a week ago you were perfectly content with never meeting your soulmate, barely giving the idea a thought, but now? Now you felt like you needed to see him. You had heard about this from other people with the soulmate mark, they say that once you meet your soulmate, all you want is to be around them, you thought that was utter bull shit, until now.
Yeosang and Mingi still didn’t know, and you weren’t about to tell them. You knew that once you did they would tell you how much of an idiot you were being. All you had to do was talk to him, get to know him and then maybe explain why you think soulmates are overrated, but you were scared that you would break around him, and give into the system you despised.
“It’s been two days, you need to get out of bed” Yeosang stated as he yanked your covers off you. “What even happened, why are you so moppy” Mingi asked as he helped Yeosang get you to stand. “Nothing” you mumbled, allowing them to push you into the bathroom so you could brush your teeth and get ready for class. “Come on Y/n, we’re not dumb, we know what’s going on.” You turned to Yeosang with wide eyes, he knew? How? “You’ve done nothing but stare at your soulmate mark for the past two day. So…” “so what” you replied, quickly turning back around to rinse out your mouth. “Who is it bitch” Mingi shouted as he turned you around to look at him. “No one, stop being weird” you tried to dismiss them and walk out but Yeosang blocked the door, staring straight into your eyes. “Who is it” “Who is it” they asked one after another, over and over again until they were basically chanting it in your ear. “Stop it! It’s Wooyoung, god it’s Wooyoung you freaks!” You shouted, quickly pushing past them to go back into your room.
“Wooyoung! The guy who invited us to that party?” Mingi exclaims with wide eyes. “Why didn’t you tell us” “because I knew you guys were going to freak out” “obviously! You found your soulmate that’s huge!” You just shook your head, he didn’t get it, after all these years he still didn’t understand. “Yeosang, I don’t want a soulmate “no you don’t want an artificial, showy love” “wha-” “Y/n, for as long as I’ve known you, you’ve been nothing but closed off and reserved when it comes to the idea of soulmate, but I see you when you see couples, real couples walk down the street, or when you watch those cheesy rom coms or dramas. You want to be loved” Yeosang all but shouts at you. He loves you and he wants nothing but the best for you, but sometimes you could be so stubborn. “You’re afraid of your soulmate using you and your relationship for attention” “I- shut up” you pout, you hate how he knows you so well, it’s sickening.
Yeosang chuckles and takes a seat next to you on your bed, “so, it looks like you have two options, keep pretending that love is gross and disgusting and is the root of all evil, or you can share your concerns to Wooyoung and hope he understands” “what if he doesn’t?” Your voice is so small you ask the question, because you were terrified he wouldn’t, that the person you were meant to be with for the rest of your life would ignore your worries and brush them and you off. “Then me and Mingi will go have a little talk with him and you’ll never have to see him again” Mingi nods rapidly, showing you that he wouldn’t let anything bad happen to you, neither of them would. “You guys suck, you know that'' you tease, allowing Yeosang to pull you into a hug. He hums in response, pulling you closer to ease your anxiety.
--
You stood in front of Wooyoung’s apartment, eyes trained on the door as you worked up the courage to knock. Which was proving to be a lot harder than you thought. You bring your hand up to the door, fist ready to knock, but you don’t you just stand there- until the door opens. You pull your hand back and step back quickly, you weren’t expecting anyone to open the door. San smiles at you, “you can go in, his room is the last door on the right” “thank you” you mumbled, quietly slipping in as San leaves, probably to attend one of his classes.
Knocking on Wooyoung’s door is a lot easier than knocking on the front door. “Go away” sounds tired and it hurts to think you caused that. “I can’t do that Wooyoung” you respond. In no time at all he’s standing in front of you with wide eyes. His hair is a bit messy and his shirt is on backwards, but he still managed to look so god damn good. Pushing that thought aside, you give him a weak smile, and he returns it, stepping out and closing his door. “I would say let’s talk in my rooms but it’s a bit of a mess right now” you giggle, nodding as you follow him to the living room.
“I’m sorry” is the first thing out of your mouth, “for what?” He seems genuinely confused. Wooyoung didn’t think you did anything wrong, he knew you needed space, it was just giving you that space was harder than he thought. “Y/n you have nothing to be sorry for” he reassures, gently rubbing your knee. You look at him and suddenly your fears of him not understanding melt away, in the short time you knew him, he’s probably the most understanding man you had ever met. He was sweet and kind and caring, how could you think he wouldn’t understand.
So you tell him everything, from how you feel that soulmate love feels fake, artificial, that no one tries, to your fear that he might use you as a way to get attention from others. And He listens, he listens to it all, never once interrupting you, encouraging you to take your time when you struggle to get the words out. He even wiped your tears when you started crying, hell he even started crying himself.
“Y/n-” He speaks up after you finish. He takes your hand and gives it a reassuring squeeze, “-I know my words won’t be enough to reassure you, so I’ll show you” he smiles. When you give him a confused look he smiles even harder, “I will show you that love isn’t superficial and I’ll show you that I will never use you, because I would never want to hurt you Y/n.” He speaks with so much sincerity that it overwhelms you, causing tears to effortlessly fall from your eyes. “All I have ever wanted was for my soulmate to be happy, and if I can make you happy, I will” Your body reacts before your brain can and you're immediately on him, hugging him so tightly as you let your happy tears flow freely. You don’t say anything, and neither does he, but you don’t have to, because both of you know that everything will be alright, as long as you’re together.
“Awww!” Wooyoung doesn’t let go of you as the two of you turn to see the owner of the voice. “Yun, you have terrible timing dude” Wooyoung grumbles to his roommate Yunho. “I’m sorry but that was just so sweet-” “get out” Wooyoung whined as he pulled you closer, making you laugh. Yunho mocks Wooyoung before giving you a joking bow, “it was nice to meet you Y/n” he says as he playfully winks. Wooyoung chases his friend out of the room before returning back to you. “Movie?” He questions and you nod, smiling up at him, “a movie sounds nice.”

3 types of kisses - dream
okay, so this is basically a “top 3 kisses” that dream would like the most (based on what I think). thought it would be a good and different way to celebrate reaching 100 followers! thank you guys all for your support, I just started this mcytblr account a few weeks ago and I’m already at 100 followers. wow! you're all so amazing and make my day<3 thank you
FRENCH KISS
I mean, who doesn't like a nice and passionate french kiss? definitely one of his favs. would be the type to kiss you when coming home, for it to end up being a bunch of french kissing against the door. even though it’s one of his favourites, he doesn't like initiating it ALL the time. he likes to surprise you - slip in his tongue when he feels the need to - not every time you kiss.
you don't now how long you'd been laying there for - the minutes that had gone by felt timeless. the sun was setting and the wind was picking up slightly, the sound of leaves brushing against each other and the smell of grass filling your senses.
opening your eyes, you looked up at the sky, half covered by the tree leaves you were laying under. the blanket underneath you felt soft against your skin, restraining the grass from embedding into your skin beneath it.
slowly, you sat up, smiling as you looked towards his focused expression. he broke his focus away from the book once noticing you’d awoken from your nap, smiling back at you before bending the corner of the page he’d reached, and closing the book. it bugged you that he didn't just use a bookmark like any sane person, but you didn't want to ruin the peaceful moment surrounded by nature, just because you did some things differently than he did. in fact, you found it slightly attractive even though it pissed you off. only he could make you feel that way.
“good nap?” he asked, taking your hand in his and placing a short peck on your knuckles. you nodded, flattening out your hair and breathing in the freshness of the air.
“yeah, it was good.” you looked around the park, fixing your eyes on the different people there. most of the ones that were there before you’d taken a nap were gone by now - only a few people and a couple of dogs left. it was maybe around 6 pm now if you were to guess, based off of the temperature and the amount of people. “wanna pack things up and head home?”
he nodded; “yeah.”
he collected the things you’d brought with you, packing them into the bag, whilst you folded the blanket neatly back together. right when you were about to leave you noticed a funny mark etched into the tree you were laying beneath. out of instinct, you walked towards it, letting go of the hand that had been holding yours.
“hey, look.” you pointed at the small quote in the tree, letting your finger slide across the bark. “’sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory’. that's beautiful, don't you think?”
he walked up beside you, staring at the words embedded into the tree. he shrugged his shoulders. “it’s okay, I guess.”
you turned to him, arm falling to rest by your side again. “don’t you think it’s a sign? I mean, what are the chances that we’ve been under this tree the whole day, and now this is here? not a coincidence, I think” your words made him smile. he wrapped an arm around you, pulling your body closer to his.
“maybe. I mean, I’m sure it was there before we got here but, let’s take action in what it’s telling us, shall we?” as he spoke, he leaned in towards you, placing a gentle peck on your lips. pulling away ever so slightly, waiting for a response, you smiled at his words and took the chance to rest your hands on his neck, letting your index fingers rest behind his ears.
he placed his lips on yours again, this time adding more pressure. your heart pumped in your chest and blood flushed to your cheeks, your eyes closing as you let yourself get lost in the moment. he opened his mouth against yours, trying to pry your lips apart. you sighed once he’d successfully accomplished the action, gasping at the feeling of his tongue flicking against yours.
the feeling made your breath hitch, completely succumbing to his unpredictable moves. he moved his hand from your waist to your cheek, pulling your face closer to his and deepening the kiss further. his tongue caressed and hugged yours, making sure not to be too agressive. it was just perfect.
the moment ended sooner than you wanted it to once your need for oxygen became evident, pulling away from him slowly with a difficulty of catching your breath.
your eyes, wide as ever, stared into his green ones, glazed over with a dewy shine. your lips felt raw and abused and your heart was beating faster than you could muster - it felt amazing.
“I- wh- whoah,” was all you could say, leaving clay to giggle at your state. he pulled away from you to pick up the bag again, taking your hand in his on your journey home.
“come on - enough memories to make for today.”
SHOULDER KISS
okay so it might not seem like it, but dream LOVES a couple of shoulder kisses here and then. especially if he had a bad day or is just feeling kinda down. it warms his heart when he receives them from you, and would definitely give them to you as well. I do imagine him liking receiving them more than giving, though.
you averted your eyes from your phone and up to your boyfriend, widening at the sight before you. there stood your 6′3 boyfriend, hair wet and curly from the shower he took, droplets of water falling onto the bare skin of his chest, until reaching the towel hanging on by a thread on his hips. it was impossible for you to look away when he just walked in here from the bathroom like nobody’s business, looking like THAT.
a smirk appeared on his face as he watched you stare at him with your mouth agape, using a second and smaller towel to gently crunch the ends of his hair. walking towards your spot on the bed, his eyes met yours with a hint of mischief in them. then, a warm finger hooked under your chin, thumb brushing slightly against your bottom lip,
“you should close your mouth,” he said, gluing your lips together with a single hand movement. “you might catch flies.”
you could feel your cheeks flush in embarrassment, and therefore hit his hand away from you, giving him a pout. he laughed and crawled over you to his side of the bed, plopping onto his back and resting his head on his arms crossed behind his head. “shut up! I was just…” he raised an eyebrow at you, waiting for you to continue, a lock of wet hair popping out from behind his ear. “it’s not my fault you look like that.”
that made him laugh. he leaned over, cupping your cheek in his hand and kissing it. “you're cute when you're blushing.”
you rolled your eyes at him and crossed your arms over your chest stubbornly, before stepping out of the bed. “well, now that you're done messing around, I’m gonna get ready for bed,” you tutted, walking into the bathroom. he chuckled to himself, grabbing his phone from the nightstand to check twitter.
it only took about 10 minutes before you were back again, walking out to the sight of your boyfriend rolling his shoulders back uncomfortably, a look of pain on his face. immediately your face dropped, worried that something might've happened to him in the literal 10 MINUTES you were gone in. you swore, he was just like a kid.
“what’s wrong?” you asked, standing by the edge of the bed frame. you watched him hide the painful look on his face, a crooked smile appearing on his face. you raised your eyebrow for him to go on, parting your lips.
“oh, nothing… my back has just been aching a lot today.” by the look on your face, he knew exactly what you were about to do. “I’m sure it’s gone by tomorrow!”
“lay on your stomach,” you ordered, rolling up the sleeves of your pyjamas and moving over to his side of the bed. he huffed but did as you said, rolling onto his stomach with his arms laying flat by his side.
you climbed over him, straddling his hips and analysing what you had to work with. you pressed a hand against the skin between his shoulder blades, moving two fingers along his spine, applying pressure as you went.
“really, can't we just go to bed- ah!” you smirked slightly, being careful with pressing down onto the spot that was aching right as you found it.
“sorry, baby. but you're not going anywhere before I’m done here.” you licked your lips as you eased up the skin on his back, being extra cautious of the areas in which he would wince whenever you pressed down even just slightly. “it’s that stupid chair, I’m telling you. you should really get a new one - that’s what’s been destroying your back like this!”
he let out a sigh, closing his eyes and just enjoying the relief he felt as you caressed and massaged his skin. “I know… I’ll buy one soon.” you nodded, though he couldn't see that. leaning down, you pressed soft and pillowy kisses onto his shoulders, being aware of not pressing your weight onto him too much.
“tomorrow,” you said, massaging his shoulders and neck and leaving kisses behind wherever you had eased up his skin.
“tomorrow.”
BITE KISS
okay, so this one is obviously mostly for special occasions, but god does this man love a good ol’ bite in his kiss. he is probably the one to initiate it the most (because he usually likes being the one in control), but would find it very sexy if you did it to him as well. and don't be shy to really bite down - he sure isn't! he loves a bit of roughness and edge ;)
“I still can't get over how good that pasta was! it was just like - a dream” you laughed, stepping inside of his apartment once he’d unlocked it, kicking off your high heels and letting your bag fall onto the floor in the hallway.
“ha ha ha, real funny,” he mocked, locking the door behind him as he entered after you. you giggled at him and peeled off your jacket, before hanging it onto the coat hanger. “but I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
you smiled, helping him out of his coat and appreciating the nice smell of his cologne as you neared him. “yeah, well, I don't think the food was the best part of tonight.” he cocked an eyebrow at you, showing his teeth off in a proud grin. “in fact, the night isn't over yet…”
he placed his hands on your hips, feeling the satin fabric move beneath his fingertips as he pulled you towards him. “you're definitely onto something,” he muttered. he stepped forward, making you step backwards until you were pushed fully against the wall of the dark hallway. the shine of the door light reflected onto his green orbs, the twinkles in them making your knees grow weak.
you could feel the heat of his clothes pressing into yours, bodies fitting together perfectly, and his hot breath fanning against your lips as you got closer. he pushed a knee between your legs, making you gasp at the feeling, caught off guard at the sudden motion. he took this opportunity to press his lips against yours, mouth opening up against yours. you rested the palms of your hands against his chest, his tuxedo feeling hot and damp under your fingers.
one of his hands trailed from your hip and onto your behind, pressing your body further into the depth of his and giving it a small squeeze while his hand was there. you hummed in approval, nose pressing against his as he angled his head to the right slightly, deepening the kiss further.
you were displeased when he pulled away to catch his breath, only to appear more satisfied once he moved his kisses onto your neck. he captured a piece of flesh between his teeth, nibbling, and then leaving a gentle kiss onto the spot he’d just abused. you sighed in pleasure, tilting your head back to give him more room, blonde strands of hair brushing against your chin as he continued.
needing more, you cupped his face in your hands and pressed your lips against his once again. this time he was the one to let out a hum, resting a hand on the wall right beside your head. suddenly, you felt a sharp string in your bottom lip, opening your eyes to stare right into his, watching as he pulled your lip towards him using his teeth. you gasped once he let go and your lip popped right back into place, closing your eyes again when he took your lip into his mouth to heal the wound by sucking gently on it.
he smirked at your reaction, taking this moment of weakness to grip onto your thighs and pushing you upwards as a sign for you to jump. you caught on to what he wanted, jumping into his arms as you moved towards the bedroom...

"Baby....no."
Hongjoong placed a hand in front of his face in an attempt to stop you from kissing him. Prying your hands off his neck, he tried to get you off his lap, but you only whined and clung harder onto him. Hongjoong wasn't very amused.
"Honey this has got to stop sooner or later."
You pouted as you grinded on his lap.
"Joongie.....don't you wanna make a baby with me?"
Hongjoong bit back the moan that got caught in his throat as his hands gripped your hips to keep you from moving.
"Baby stop. I'm not going to give in anytime soon."
"Oh. So you're willing to make Seonghwa a baby but not me?" You huffed and got off his lap, arms crossed as you angrily slumped down on the couch.
Hongjoong sighed as he turned his chair to you. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he silently prayed for help to deal with you.
"Babycakes, you know I love you and I'd adore to see you carry my child.."
Your eyes lit up at his comment.
"But we're too young right now to think about that. Let's wait a few years ok?"
Standing up, he sat down next to you before brushing his nose across your neck. Chuckling lowly, he whispered in your ear:
"And then I promise you, I'll fuck as many babies as you want into you."
❥𝓟𝓪𝓻𝓴 𝓢𝓮𝓸𝓷𝓰𝓱𝔀𝓪
Seonghwa had annoyed you so much with his baby fever that the unthinkable happened:
You yourself caught it. Now you were watching baby videos and reading all about taking care of a baby, even bought a baby book name that surprised even Seonghwa when he found it in your bag.
"Babe? What's this?" He asked as he held the book up.
Walking shyly to him, you startled him by wrapping your arms around his neck and pressing your nose against his.
"You win. I want to make a baby with you."
Seonghwa had to hold onto you because he nearly fell down.
"Wait....are you serious? Don't play with me. "
He became ecstatic that you finally gave in. Wasting no time, he hoisted you up and carried you to his room, eager to get started right away. Unfortunately for the both of you, Hongjoong came back early and walked in on you two.
"Ahhhh!"
He screamed as he dashed out of there, covering his eyes and bumping into Jongho who had just came back.
"Oh? I take it Seonghwa Hyung and Y/N are still making a baby? Ok. I'll just leave again."
"They're trying to what?!" Hongjoong marched back into his room, closing the door behind him.
"Well first time Seonghwa is gonna get scolded in Hongjoong's room." Jongho sipped his juice and decided to stay to see how it would unfold.
❥𝓙𝓮𝓸𝓷𝓰 𝓨𝓾𝓷𝓱𝓸
Yunho didn't know how much more he could take before he snapped. You kept begging him and pestering him with baby related things, and he of course adored kids. But one of you had to be the responsible one and remind the other that you were both too young for kids.
"Kitten, you know as much as I'd love to see you walking around with a swollen belly full of my kids, you know we can't."
You pouted at him and he couldn't help but pout back at you.
"Kitten please don't pout. You know I can't stand to see you sad." He cupped your cheeks and wiggled your face side to side slowly.
Not yet wanting to give up, you made the most adorable puppy eyes you could muster, knowing he was a huge sucker for them. Yunho widened his eyes when he realized what you were doing.
"Kitten- no! Don't do this to me! That's not fair!"
You didn't listen and instead leaned in to place open mouth kisses on the side of his neck, occasionally purring softly. Yunho didn't stand a chance. You were using all his weaknesses to your advantage and he was one thread away from breaking.
Sighing softly, he pulled you away to look at you.
"Ok. We're going to try one time. Just one time! Got it?"
You nodded eagerly and began placing tiny butterfly pecks all over his face.
"Ok ok. But if it doesn't work out, promise you'll drop it." He poked your nose, looking at you with a serious expression to get you to understand.
But deep down, you both knew it wasn't going to be a one time thing only.
❥𝓚𝓪𝓷𝓰 𝓨𝓮𝓸𝓼𝓪𝓷𝓰
"Yeosang! I need you to see-"
"Nope!"
Not even giving you a chance to tell him what it was, Yeosang quickly left his seat on the couch and went to the kitchen. It had been like that for the past week, your boyfriend had been avoiding you like you had the plague. You couldn't help but complain.
"You're right honey. You don't have covid. You have something much, much worse."
Leaning in, he gently pinched your nose bridge before whispering:
"Baby fever."
Gasping dramatically, he held a hand over his mouth, pretending to be shocked. You on the other hand, were getting tired of his relentless teasing and ignoring you.
"You're so mean Kang Yeosang!" You stomped away, leaving him there to laugh at how cute you were.
For the next days, you started ignoring Yeosang, instead opting to keep your baby fever to yourself. You were watching a video on your phone. Yeosang had been next to you, wanting your attention, but you refused to budge.
"Baby..." He tried snaking an arm around you.
"Unless you're talking about giving me a baby, I don't want to hear from you."
Scooting away from him, you plopped onto your stomach and resumed watching your video, but not before looking over at Yeosang and saying:
"Jerk."
Yeosang bursted out laughing. He wasn't giving in anytime soon, but he didn't mind you dragging it on. It was much more entertaining than he'd ever believe it would be.
❥𝓒𝓱𝓸𝓲 𝓢𝓪𝓷
San coughed out some of the food he was eating.
"You wanna what..?" He wanted to make sure he heard you right.
"I want a baby." You happily told him.
San wiped his mouth with a napkin, thinking of what to say next.
"Damn. Baby fever really got you bad didn't it?" He ran a hand through his hair, trying to find the words to soften what he'd say.
"See Y/N the thing is..."
When he looked up and saw your hopeful eyes and cheerful smile, his words were lost. He hated telling you no, but he had to at this moment. There was no other option. You were both young.
"Honey wouldn't you rather wait?"
You immediately pouted, letting out a tiny whine before perching yourself on his lap.
"No. I want you to get me pregnant. I wanna carry your baby."
San gulped slightly.
"Damn....not gonna lie, you probably would look pretty adorable with the extra weight on you..."
As you leaned in and placed tiny kisses on the corner of his mouth, San could feel his resolve weakening. He couldn't stop thinking about you looking all round and chubby with a swollen belly. And he sucked in a breath when he thought about fucking you raw. He was just about to give in, when he saw Byeol come out.
"Perfect! Honey! Why think about having a baby when we already have one?!"
You looked to where his finger was pointed at and when you saw the feline, you frowned.
"Byeol isn't a baby and she's been mean lately."
San laughed as he got up to retrieve her.
"Nonsense! She is totally a baby and she's the nicest-"
Byeol let out a menacing meow and scratched San's arm to escape his grasp, dashing down the hall.
"Byeol get back here! I am trying to prove a point!"
❥𝓢𝓸𝓷𝓰 𝓜𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓲
"Mingi....." You walked up to him, hands fumbling with your sleeves.
"Yes love?" His eyes were all on you, waiting for you to say something.
"Can we....can we have a baby?-"
"Oh my God! Yes! Yes! We absolutely can!"
You shrieked softly when he just picked you up and kissed you.
"You know I love kids and I can't wait until we have one of our own."
He started walking to his room to get started, but you two were stopped by the 98 liners.
"Yes you can and you will wait." Hongjoong sternly said.
From that day on, neither of you two were allowed to be alone, the others were afraid the second they let you two out of their sight, you'd be all over each other.
"You guys are mean." You whined, annoyed that you couldn't spend a date night alone with Mingi.
"We're not mean Y/N. We're protecting you both from a horrible decision." Jongho stated.
"Yeah think about it. You really wanna have kids with this?" Yeosang gestured to Mingi.
"Hey!" Mingi smacked him.
"What's wrong with wanting to have babies with Mingi?" You huffed.
"You're dating him! He's practically a baby himself!" San exclaimed.
You and Mingi both looked at each other. You suddenly cooed.
"You are baby!"
Mingi blushed before mimicking baby noises as he raised his fist and cutely punched the air, making you squeal at how cute he was.
"Someone hold me back before I break them both." Jongho stood up.
❥𝓙𝓾𝓷𝓰 𝓦𝓸𝓸𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓰
Wooyoung was not having any of your shit. Just because you had baby fever, didn't mean he was gonna let you try and infect him.
"Wooyoung-"
"No!" He'd immediately reply, not wanting to hear anything you said because lately all you talk about is babies.
He even went as far as forbidding you to touch him because he knew you'd try to get in his pants and rile him up. So for safety precautions, he'd carry a spray bottle.
"My sweet and handsome boy-"
You screeched when you felt the spray of cold water on your face.
"Back! Back away! I won't hesitate to bonk you upside the head with it!"
You growled at him before snatching the sprayer away from him and giving him the same treatment.
"Whoah ok! Stop it!"
Wooyoung began screeching as you chased him around the dorm with the bottle. San came in at that moment, looking at you both before taking the water bottle away.
"No weapons in the dorm." He reminded you.
"It was for self defense! This woman is crazy trying to get me to have kids!" Wooyoung exclaimed.
"Well you know what?! Maybe I don't want some loud annoying brat like you as my baby's father.."
You looked over at San and suddenly got an idea. Wooyoung noticed your smirk and did not like it at all.
"Don't. Even. Think. About. It."
You didn't listen though and blurted out:
"San? Wanna be a nice friend and give me a baby?"
San widened his eyes.
"I mean......sure...I guess?"
Wooyoung let out a piercing scream while San covered his ears and went to his room, Wooyoung trailing behind him, accusing him of betraying him and threatening to end their friendship when suddenly he stopped screaming. Wooyoung came back out, a large satisfied smile on his face while San came back out, holding his beloved cat in his hands.
"Here. You can have my baby for a day if you want."
❥𝓒𝓱𝓸𝓲 𝓙𝓸𝓷𝓰𝓱𝓸
Jongho shook his head yet again.
"Y/N, this has to stop. Baby fever isn't contagious and I'm not going to get it like you did."
You grabbed onto his arm when he tried to walk away.
"But Jongho! I want to have a baby!"
Leaning in, Jongho smiled and winked at you.
"But you already have me. I'm baby."
He laughed at his cute little joke but you weren't. Your arms wrapped around his neck. Jongho sighed, staring straight in your eyes with a serious look to get his point across.
"No means no Y/N."
He got startled when you nuzzled his neck, and tensed up when you began kissing where his mole was.
"Pu-pumpkin...please d-don't do this." Jongho groaned, trying to pry you off him.
He absolutely melted when you began whimpering, not being able to resist the tiny noises escaping from your lips.
"Jongho....please.."
As soon as he heard you begging, he was done. His arms lifted you up and he pressed you against the wall. His lips immediately attached themselves to yours, kissing you hungrily, hands roaming your body.
"Fuck being the baby anymore."

Drunk Striker (Fanfic Oneshot)
~~~~~~~
Background info (TW: mention of suic!de):
In my AU or whatever you wanna call it, Striker was raised by his dad (Buck) and his aunt (Cassandra). Striker's mother died at childbirth, so Cassie helped her little brother Buck raise Striker. Buck suffered from Depression and a Panic Attack disorder (Striker inherited the panic attack part). Because of this, it lead to Buck commiting suicide about a year and a half prior to Striker joining I.M.P. Striker's parents were only 16/17 when he was born, so partially due to the shorter age gap he was very close with his dad. My oneshot takes place around the two-year anniversary of his dad's death.
~~~~~~~
The taste of hot, straight whiskey burned Striker's throat as his lips met the one of two newly opened bottles of alcohol he purchased. He let out a relieved breath, as the western imp hadn't drank good whiskey since he last left Wrath. He also needed a distraction from the gut-wrenching memories trying to re-surface themselves in his head, memories he knew he'd be sobbing himself to sleep if he didn't force back down.
Taking another swig, Striker plopped down at the kitchen counter and took off his hat. The one dim light above him illuminated a sickly yellow glow, causing the bottle in the imp's hand to look like an old bottle of piss. Striker smiled at the thought, Blitz definitely would say something like that in the current situation. Speaking of his boyfriend, his small smile turned into a frown. Blitz wouldn't be home for awhile since he insisted he go spend the night out with Barbie. She was barely out of rehab; the twins hadn't seen each other in months. But that wasn't the driving reason why he told Blitz to go out for this particular evening. He didn't want Blitz to see him like... this. Striker needed to stay strong for Blitz, he couldn't let his mate see the weak, sad, drunk side of him. Blitz would probably just tell him to man up and push through it. Striker was strong. He can handle these things on his own. He didn't need comfort. Just a few drinks and sleep and he'll be good. Right?
Striker sat there taking in as much of the burning liquid he could handle, like a parched cactus in the dryest possible desert. Blackout drunk wasn't his go-to--nor his favorite--way out of these things. But it did the job. Sure, he knew how unhealthy it was, but at least he wasn't one of those 24/7 drunk-ass rednecks that did it thrice a week.
Striker was barely finished with the first bottle when the sound of familiar footsteps approached the door to their apartment. The door swung open and Blitz loudly barged in (per the usual), catching Striker comepletely off-gaurd.
"Hey babe, I'm back! You will not believe what-- whoah, why is it so goddamn dark in here?" Striker hissed and squinted as Blitz turned on the brighter kitchen lights, adding to the throbbing headache Striker could feel coming.
shit, Striker thought to himself. He isn't supposed to be home for another hour.
"You're back early, though' you'd be out for another hourer.. ssso." Blitz cocked his head in concern as Striker spoke. His accent was thicker than usual. He also doesn't normally do the hissy s thing unless he meant to or was drunk. And judging by the nearly-empty bottle of whiskey along with Striker's distraught appearance, he was definitely drunk.
"Babe, why have you been drinking? Alone? Basically in the dark?"
"Ssssno big reason, juss... ta pleasure mahselfss' all."
Blitz stood in thought for a moment. Striker never drank 'just because'. He always had good reasoning behind it, so something definitely was up. The crimsom imp walked over and sat down next to his mate.
"I came home earlier because I'm worried about you. You've been acting... off the past few days. You've hardly been eating, you're quiet, withdrawn... and I can tell you're tired as well. Now I'm really glad I came home early seeing you're trying to pass yourself out with a bottle of alcoholic-looking piss."
Striker sighed and lazily rested his head on a propped up arm. "Yeah, you're right ah guess," he muttered softly.
"So tell me, what's wrong?"
Striker sucked in a sharp breath at the question. "Iss nothin' ah can't handle on mah own. I'm alrigh'. I'll prolly juss go on n' hit the hay fer t'night."
As Striker stood from his seat, a blotched hand grabbed his arm yanking him back down on the stool he was sitting on.
"No."
"Wut?"
"I said no, Striker. There is clearly something wrong and I need to know what it is. I'm not going to let you shove it under the rug. And you definitely, by the looks of it, can't handle it on your own."
Striker looked at the floor, feeling nothing but shame for his weakened state. "Ah can't let ya see me like this though. Ah need ta be strong fer ya Blitz..."
A hand gently angled Striker's head up as calm, yellow eyes met tired, blown-out ones. "Hey, who was it that said no matter who you are, everyone has something deep under the tip of the iceberg?"
Striker took a moment to think before responding. "Ah did?"
"Yes. Who was it that said no matter what, there is going to be something dark in everyone's past?"
"Ah did."
"And who was it that said they'd help me heal those deep wounds and be there for me and stay with me every step of the way?"
"Ah did."
"You did, Striker! And you still continue to help me. But here's the thing, babe... our relationship here is a two-way street. I'd be quite an ass of a boyfriend if I wasn't here for you as much as you are for me. You are the strongest, bravest imp I know. You've always been strong for me and I know you always will. And just becuase you're vulnerable, doesn't make you weak."
Striker sat in stunned silence for a few long moments, before finally giving in.
"Mah dad. Two years ago t'day. He uh.. he passed." Blitz listened as Striker slowly slurred out the words, the crack in the taller imp's voice ripping a tear through his heart. He'd never seen or heard Striker close to crying before, let alone actually cry at all. "We were..." A long pause. "We were very close." Blitz wrapped his hands in Striker's and gave them a tight squeeze. "Ah misss him sss...sso goddamn much."
And with that, Striker broke. He finally let out the loud, ugly sobs he'd been gulping down the past hour. Blitz embraced him in a tight hug and wrapped their tails together, gently rocking his mate side to side while softly stroking his hair. Striker's shoulders violently shook as he took in harsh gasps and let out heart-wrenching sobs.
Blitz felt tears brimming in his own eyes at the sound of his lover's painful grief, the sharp claws tightly gripping at his shirt causing him to hug his lover tighter.
Neither imps knew how long Striker cried for, but once his sobs calmed down to quiet cries, Blitz helped walk him back to their room. He was pretty tipsy after all.
Blitz helped Striker strip down to his boxers as he did likewise. They both lied down on their bed and Blitz cradled his lover in his arms, placing a soft, gentle kiss on Striker's forehead.
"I love you so much, Striker," he whispered in his ear. "I'm always here for you, as you are for me. Don't ever forget that."
Striker gave Blitz's hand a tight squeez in response. He was too drunk and tired to muster any words, as well as his soft cries blocked any other noises that dared escape his mouth. But the hand squeez was more than enough for Blitz. He held Striker tightly the rest of the night, the taller imp fading in and out of crying spells before eventually entirely passing out.
Blitz refused to fall asleep until all he could hear was the soft breathing from his mate in his arms. As Blitz was finally able to drift to sleep himself, he was thinking up of some hangover breakfast ideas to make for his partner in the morning. Or afternoon, that'd work too. Striker needed the sleep after all.

Luke’s always been a curious person going as far back as his early childhood. The most consistent evidence being during the Christmas holidays. Until he was ten, yes, he’s aware that his friends stopped believing in Santa way earlier. The young lad would stay up hidden in the living room waiting to catch Santa. Without fail, Luke would wake up in his outer space planet sheets having fallen asleep in his mission.
When he was twelve years old, he was left at his aunt and uncle’s house for the weekend due to a work-related thing. His older cousin was eighteen at the time and at college, so Luke stayed in his bedroom. Luke couldn’t help but snoop through Bryan’s personal items, and in a drawer with a false bottom, he discovered magazines.
Luke had a lot of fun that weekend diligently going through the magazines his mother would skin his hide even knowing about them. He may have had to use the excuse of having a cold for the entire box of Kleenex missing. No one was the wiser on that weekend.
Now when Luke was fourteen years old, he had snuck into the Rated R film Candyman with Alex and Reggie. Luke’s parents had been strict in their rules and definitely had shot down the question of seeing the film. The three didn’t sleep with the lights out for a month after that, and the truth came out when no lie was sufficient to their concerned parents.
Luke Patterson didn’t care about boundaries. Why ask for permission when you can just ask for forgiveness? It worked with going through Julie’s dream box, but all personal items got hidden from the ghostly guitarist.
“No!” Luke exclaimed flipping through his song journal once more in hopes of a blank page. The frustration in his body snapping the pencil he had been using.
“You good?” You questioned glancing up from the essay you graded as a teacher’s assistant for an AP course. Luke’s frustrated brown met yours with a cute pout on his lips.
“I’ve filled my journal up. I hate using loose-leaf, but no money means no buying things.” Luke roughly scrubbed one hand on his face.
“You could always just forever borrow one from the- “Luke quickly shot that down with a look of absolute horror, “Okay…so stealing a no.”
“I did listen to my parents on certain aspects. I would never steal anything, other than the food when we didn’t have enough cash.” Luke’s brown hue had softened back into the hazel that caused flutters in your heart, “I have no respect for thieves.”
You nodded before scribbling a suggestion on the paper in dark red, “I have a shelf in my room dedicated solely to blank journals. If you want to, you can take one free of charge.”
With a quick smile, Luke disappeared from the room to your personal domain he sometimes hung out with you in. You had no misgivings on the teen finding solace in your room and gave him free rein; your prized possessions hidden very well.
Luke appeared in the soft blue and lilac bedroom with the queen white iron wrought style bed in the middle. A white desk in the corner with a multitude of bookcases and shelves in the room. The desk chair neatly pushed into the desk as well he went straight to the shelf.
Journals of all colours and styles with a label on the shelf noting them as empty. It was packed with dozens, but it was the midnight blue one that called to the boy. In his reach, he bumped an emerald green one off the edge. It opened having hit the edge of the desk.
As he leaned down, he noticed notations in the margins, now remember how Luke is a curious guy? He only hesitated a second before he was reading the pages of words in your signature script.
The guilt flared for a second before he justified it as being on the shelf you declared free game. So Luke settled sitting criss-cross against the side of your bed reading the words so eloquently written. Even notes allowed Luke to hear the melody in his mind.
Assignment: Write a piece of literature from two points of views. Genre doesn’t matter as long as it is a minimum of one page and not exceed eight.
Step into my world
Bittersweet love story ’bout a girl
Shook me to the core
Voice like an angel
I’ve never heard before
The words took his breath away, recalling a moment he gushed to Alex on how he had caught you singing. He had described your voice as being angelic, and it took him by complete surprise. He remembered Julie, and you entered the room shortly after with a nervous feeling if you had heard. Now Luke had his answer. His phantom heart pounded in anticipation for the reply to this first point of view.
Here in front of me
They’re shining so much brighter
Than I have ever seen
Life can be so mean
But when he goes, I know he doesn’t leave
The smile threatened to split his face with the elation as he continued reading with a subconscious hum. His fingers tapping the sides of the paper as his hazel irises tinged green ate up the words.
The truth is finally breaking through
Two worlds collide when I’m with you
Our voices rise and soar so high
We come to life when we’re
In perfect harmony
Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa
Perfect harmony
Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa
Perfect harmony
The world faded as Luke distinctly heard your angelic voice singing the parts he could easily recognize as perfect for you. There was something so powerful in this incredibly personal song only intended for your eyes and your teachers.
The next handful of lines left him breathless and astonished as he visualized not sitting across from each other. But engaging in another art form that can be so incredibly intimate for people; he imagined singing this while holding you in his arms.
You set me free
You and me together is more than chemistry
Love me as I am
I’ll hold your music here inside my hands
We say we’re friends, we play pretend
You’re more to me, we’re everything
Our voices rise and soar so high
We come to life when we’re
In perfect harmony
Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa
Perfect harmony
Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa
Perfect harmony
Luke went from humming to softly singing to the heartfelt tune with a flutter of butterflies deep in his stomach. When Julie saw Unsaid Emily, he had denied it as an experiment, and it was the truth. Luke wrote rock anthems and rock-pop with his living friend. He never dabbled into romantic ones.
He’d never read something so poetically beautiful it felt him weeping at the sheer amount of feelings.
I feel your rhythm in my heart
Yeah yeah yeah
You are my brightest burning star
Whoah whoah oh
I never knew a love so real (so real)
We’re heaven on earth
Melody and words
When we’re together we’re
In perfect harmony
Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa
Perfect harmony
Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa
We say we’re friends (we play pretend)
You’re more to me (we create)
Perfect harmony
His eyes found the last line of the song setting him back in a dead silence returning to the start to reread it. On his third read, he found the notes from your teacher on a separate page.
Y/N, in my years of teaching, I’ve never read something with such meaning behind it. The longing, passion, respect and love you artfully encapsulated is rare. To have written, this means you’ve felt this. No corrects needed, and I felt compelled to not mark on the piece. Thank you for being vulnerable with me, for letting me step inside your mind and please never let this emotion fade.
Your grade is A+.
Luke’s lips pulled apart at the genuine words your teacher had written because it indeed was a word of art. Carefully Luke returned the notebook back to the shelf to retrieve the blue one that caught his attention. AS he turned, he found you leaning against the door frame with a soft smile.
“I am so sor-“
“No.” You replied, walking into the room, “You’ve got nothing to be sorry for. I told you any notebook on that shelf. I can’t get mad, and I’ve seen you can’t leave something half-read.”
“Probably why my book reports were insanely well done in school.” Luke joked as you stepped in his personal space. The tension faded from his shoulders as he took in your features, “You got a perfect grade.”
“I did.” You simply spoke, staring up into his eyes, “You helped me with it.”
“How?”
“You told Alex what you felt about my voice. You looked nervous when I walked in, so I let it go. It wasn’t the time to bring it up. It’s called Perfect Harmony.” You told the ghost gently grazing your fingertips on his hand. The feeling sends shudders down his spine.
“I guess it just wasn’t the right time. With the band and-“
“-the whole soul owning thing. Too much but now that you’ve read that…what do you feel?” You hesitantly asked because reading it and discovering how someone feels is another to if the feelings are reciprocated back.
“That I was always meant to live in 2020. That I was meant to love you with every atom in my very being.” Luke murmured before he crashed his lips onto your own in a searing kiss that had your toe-curling.
The midnight blue journal dropped to the floor as his large calloused hands cupped your face to feel the warmth. The very journal would be filled with songs all about this person, Luke adored not matter his state as a ghost. Two worlds collided just as two souls came together in perfect harmony.
So, wrapped up in each other Luke didn’t notice something magical encased in the warm love. In the bedroom, the two teens were kissing in had two distinct heartbeats with a glow emanating from Luke Patterson.

The Lucky One
Read it on AO3
Summary: What if Master Fu hadn't been the only reason Marinette was late to her first day of school? What if, when Ladybug told Chat Noir she was in love with someone else, it really was someone else? Really, it comes down to this: What if Marinette met Luka before Adrien?
Notes: This is written for @feminaexlux for the LBSC 2021 Valentine's Day Exchange! I'm your secret admirer, so happy Valentine's Day, beautiful — I hope you enjoy the fic! 💕 Also, thank you so much to the lovely @chrwrites for beta reading! Word Count: 2,873
Luka loved his little sister more than words could describe, which was precisely why he couldn’t let her leave for her first day of school without her lucky pink hair clip.
Sure, she never really wore it; in fact, she seemed far more comfortable allowing her purple bangs to obscure her features in an increasingly persistent effort to hide from scrutinizing eyes. But that didn’t stop her from bringing the clip with her every day, anyway, just in case she ever found the strength to let herself be seen.
And as Luka waited patiently for her to unearth that courage for herself, he did his best to support and encourage her in any way he could, which was precisely why he found himself racing toward Collège Françoise Dupont on the first morning of the school year.
“Sorry, excuse me,” he mumbled to no one in particular as he pedaled perilously close to cars and took street corners just a hair too sharp.
That morning, as he had been organizing his own school books and binders, he found the small hair clip sitting forlornly on the deck of the Liberty. It must have fallen out of Juleka’s backpack, he realized, considering the haste with which she had raced off to meet Rose.
Thus, he now found himself down the street from the school, approaching the corner where a charming bakery huddled adjacent to the campus.
Only, just as he reached the crosswalk, an old man with a cane hobbled out into the road, where—
“Whoah, watch out!”
Luka skidded to a stop, tearing off his helmet as he ran to grab the man’s left arm. At the same time, another girl in pigtails, one arm burdened with a pastry box, ran out into the oncoming traffic to grab onto the man’s right.
Narrowly missing the bumper of a passing car, Luka huffed in relief as all three of them staggered back onto the edge of the sidewalk — but not before the girl in pigtails tripped, landing heavily on her hands and knees.
The crosswalk flicked green, then, and pedestrians began to obliviously mill past.
“Are you okay?” Luka bent down to grab the girl by the elbow, just as a cane appeared in his peripheral vision. “Are you hurt?”
The old man they had rescued edged closer to clear his throat before the girl could respond.
“Thank you, both of you,” he said before eyeing the box the girl had dropped. Pistachio green macaron shells lay shattered along the cement. “Oh! What a disaster.”
“Don’t worry, I’m no stranger to disaster. Besides, there are still a few left,” the girl responded buoyantly as she sat up and recovered the surviving cookies. She turned to Luka. “Oh! And y-yes! I’m okay! I’m just such a clutz, thank you for helping me.”
Her cheeks were dusted with a subtle pink as she looked up at Luka, his hand still resting gingerly on her arm.
She’s cute, he thought to himself before glancing back toward the crosswalk. And kind. Maybe I should—
The school bell rang, then, and the girl whipped her head back around, her eyes wide.
“Oh no, I’m going to be late!” She stood and hurriedly shut the lid of the pastry box before angling back toward the road. “H-have a nice day!”
“Wait!” Luka grabbed the girl’s wrist before she could barrel across to the campus. “You go to Collège Françoise Dupont?”
“I-uh, yes?”
“You don’t happen to know Juleka Couffaine, do you?”
The girl straightened and turned fully back toward Luka, her eyes flicking to where his fingers curled around her wrist. Her blush reemerged, albeit more brightly this time.
“I do! W-we’re in the game sass together! Well, I-I mean the same class,” she clarified nervously. “We’ve b-been in the same class. Together. Maybe we’ll be in the same class together again, this year, I mean.”
Luka just chuckled and grabbed the clip from where he had stuffed it in his pocket on the way out.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“Ma-ma-Marinette.”
“Well, ma-ma-Marinette, if you happen to see Juleka, can you please give this to her?” With one hand still on her upturned wrist, Luka pressed the clip into her palm. “You can tell her that her brother Luka dropped it off.”
________
If she thought about it hard enough, Marinette could imagine she still felt the pressure on her hand from where the boy — well, where Luka — had pressed Juleka’s hair clip into her palm, even though weeks had gone by.
Juleka was, in fact, in her class again, which seemed to work to Marinette’s advantage.
As time went on, Luka made increasingly regular appearances after school, primarily to pick up Juleka and walk her back to the Liberty at the end of the day.
And if Marinette made the conscious decision to linger around the front steps of the school under the guise of sketching or organizing her backpack, who needed to be the wiser? (Albeit Tikki did occasionally chide her for running even later than usual.)
But every day that Luka took the time to stop, say hello, and ask to see her sketches, she knew that the loss of time was worth it. “Hey, Marinette!”
Absolutely worth it.
________
Despite the fact that everything had turned out well in the end, Luka wasn’t sure that his righteous anger that morning had been worth it.
And as much as he refused to show it, he felt a twisting pit of shame and apprehension in his stomach.
Ladybug and Chat Noir had just released him from Hawkmoth’s akuma, and he was about to take center stage with the rest of Kitty Section for their well-earned television debut. While this moment should have been exhilarating — triumphant, even — all he could think about was what Marinette must think of him now.
Marinette, who always went out of her way to help those around her.
Marinette, who spent what precious little time she had making costumes for the band.
Marinette, who was kind and gentle, and had now seen him at his worst.
Who had now seen him as a villain… literally.
Luka took a steadying breath, one thumb skimming nervously over his Kitty Section mask as he prepared to step out in front of the cameras… until he felt warm fingers encircling his wrist.
He half-turned, the pit in his stomach sinking even further.
“Luka?” Marinette stood there before him, one hand bashfully coming up to her face. “Did you really mean those things you said when you were akumatized?”
Wait, was she… blushing? No, that couldn’t be.
Not after today.
“I'm sorry, Marinette, but I don't remember,” Luka said slowly as the pit twisted itself into butterflies. “What did I say?”
“Uh, oh, n-nothing,” Marinette stuttered. She looked down and rubbed nervously at the back of her neck. “It was nothing at all. You were possessed by Hawkmoth's akuma.”
“I don't know what I possibly could've said. I just hope it wasn't anything mean, because—”
He had to tell her how he felt. Now. Because if he didn’t, what else was she supposed to think? What if what he said while he was akumatized made her think that he didn’t—
“—You're the most extraordinary girl, Marinette.” He grabbed her shoulders earnestly. “As clear as a musical note and as sincere as a melody. You’re the music that’s been playing inside my head since the first day we met.”
The words sat right on his tongue, as well-rehearsed as his fingers on the frets of his guitar. He squeezed his hands once more on her shoulders before turning around to take the stage.
Though he had just recovered from being Silencer, he thought, perhaps he still had one thing left to silence: His doubts.
________
Ladybug had little doubt in her decision today, even if she found herself gritting her teeth and bearing with the stench of Paris’s sewers — again.
Really, she and Chat Noir had made somewhat of a habit of coming down into the watery maze beneath the city, and she was beginning to think that it was time to find an alternative place to run and hide.
As much as she cared for the silly kitty, sometimes the time they spent alone became a little overwhelming, what with his constant flirtation and declarations of love. And coming down to the sewers didn’t exactly make his attempts seem any more romantic.
… Wait, in that case, maybe being in the sewers wasn’t too bad of an idea.
In any case, she had tried time and again to tell Chat Noir that she was in love with someone else — someone with deft fingers, blue hair, and eyes that were bluer still — but the blonde still didn’t seem to be deterred.
Which was what gave Ladybug the idea to bestow a Miraculous upon Luka.
He was a natural match for combat after all, right?
Luka, who was so level-headed.
Luka, who always took the time to think before acting or speaking.
Luka, who genuinely put the needs of others before himself.
He had demonstrated as much on the day they met, after all. Who else would make themself late to school not only to help an old man out of the street, but to also make sure his little sister had her favorite hair clip on hand?
Luka was selfless, caring, observant, cute—
Yes, that settled it: Luka was the perfect candidate for a Miraculous.
Today, Chat Noir seemed to think they should give this particular one to Adrien Agreste, but Marinette wasn’t so sure. Would the celebrity model really be cut out for an akuma battle, let alone one that had brought them down into the sewers?
Probably not.
Closing her eyes and ignoring the acrid stench of garbage as she sucked in a determined breath, Ladybug called Luka out of the locker Chat Noir had left him in. Hesitantly, he approached the spot where Ladybug stood by a metal ladder that led to the surface.
“Luka Couffaine,” she began. Gently, she turned his hand over and pressed a box into his palm, much in the way he had pressed a clip into hers some months ago. “This is the Miraculous of the Snake, which grants the power of Second Chance. You will use it for the greater good. Once the job is done, you will return the Miraculous to me. Can I trust you?”
Of course, she knew the answer even before Luka smiled and nodded.
His hands tightened around hers knowingly.
________
Of course, knowing and understanding were two very different things.
After Miracle Queen had come and unnerved all of the Miraculous wielders by revealing their identities, Ladybug, in particular, had seemed uncharacteristically dispirited. Even Chat Noir seemed to hold himself at arm’s length from the heroine, albeit Luka didn’t understand why.
Nor did he understand why, over the past several weeks, she had appeared at his window in frequent blurs of red and black, offering him time with Sass under the condition that he come out to patrol in Chat Noir’s place.
Of all the previously-exposed Miraculous holders, he was the only one she had recalled to the field, even though it was never for the express purpose of an akuma battle.
Now, racing along Paris’s rooftops, Viperion did his best not to pry, though he couldn’t help but feel concerned at the discordant melody that was all but radiating off the girl. Weeks had passed, but something about Ladybug was still off-beat.
Patrol that night was almost over and it was only getting more and more difficult not to ask questions, especially considering she—
“We’re here.”
Ladybug landed gracefully on the final rooftop of the evening, her expression indifferent as she hooked her yo-yo around her hip and looked out at the distant wash of lights across Paris. She released a silent sigh through her nose, the rise and fall of her shoulders otherwise betraying her neutral demeanor.
Viperion landed beside her, consciously restraining himself from coaxing a sad melody out of his lyre and asking, “Do you feel kind of like this?”
“Why don’t we stop to catch our breath?” he asked instead. “Before we go our separate ways, I mean.”
Ladybug’s gaze flicked up to him in question before softening a fraction.
“Sure,” she murmured, her softly-emerging smile a small victory in Viperion’s heart. “I brought a snack, anyway. Just in case we got hungry.”
As Viperion lowered himself to sit on the ledge of the roof, Ladybug padded to the opposite side, bending down to grab a pastry box before returning and perching herself next to him. As she opened the lid, Viperion didn’t try to suppress his own smile.
Pistachio green macarons sat in a neat row within the box, their fragile shells still perfectly in-tact.
“These look delicious,” he said, gently removing one with his right thumb and forefinger. His left hand skimmed distractedly over the hidden pocket of his Miraculous suit.
The two sat that way for several minutes, the silence of the night punctuated only by the occasional passing car or giggling civilian. Ladybug and Viperion, meanwhile, relished in the quiet anonymity provided by both the height and the shadows of the building they sat atop.
Eventually, Ladybug sighed once more — this time more audibly — and leaned to rest her head against Viperion’s shoulder.
“You’re unbelievably brave, you know.”
“What?” Ladybug lifted her head to look at him through her falling bangs.
“I said you’re incredibly brave,” he repeated, his eyes fixed forward. “And I just want you to know you don’t have to shoulder all of the burden on your own.”
“I don’t know what you mean.” Ladybug’s brows furrowed. “I mean, I asked you to come out and help patrol with me, didn’t I?”
Viperion just chuckled once more, as he often did while contemplating how best to string his words together like a discernible song of their own.
“Yes, and I’m grateful you did,” he conceded. “But you and I both know that’s not all. And maybe that’s why I don’t feel any doubt, anymore.”
“What … what did you doubt?”
Luka paused a moment, his hand once more pressing against his pocket. This time, he pulled the contents out and curled his fingers around it protectively.
“I guess… I doubted that you wanted me to be there for you,” he said. “But, lately, you’ve been leaning on me more, both in and out of the suit—”
Ladybug gasped.
“—And that makes me happy.”
Viperion turned, grabbing Ladybug’s wrist with a feather-light touch. Turning her palm up, he pressed a small clip into her hand before closing her fingers. Then he pulled her in for a reassuring hug, careful to hold her gently enough that she could pull away if she wanted to.
He heard her sniff before he felt her burrow into his neck. His skin was cooled by the unexpected dampness of her cheeks.
“Juleka gave me her lucky hair clip several weeks ago,” he explained. “She said she hoped it would help me to find the luck and courage I needed to tell the girl I love about my feelings, which… I guess I already did. So this time, I’ll just tell you that I know what you’re facing and, if you ever need someone to shoulder more of the burden for you, I’ll always be here. My life is already filled with music, but you add the sweetest harmony of all, Marinette.”
Ladybug hiccuped, wrapping her arms hastily around Viperion’s waist. One hand remained fisted around the clip while the other pressed between his shoulder blades, silently asking him to hold her tighter.
So he did.
Humming the heartsong he had written for Marinette weeks ago, Viperion pressed his cheek into her hair and rubbed circles into her back. His body shook slightly as the girl gasped and wept, but he didn’t dare let go. Not until she was ready.
Several minutes later, her body had finally relaxed into his, the sobs gone and her breath evening out. His humming trailed off as she slowly unwound her arms from around him.
“I’m sorry, Luka,” she whispered as she pulled back and wiped at her face. “It’s all just been so much.”
“I know. And I’ll be here for you every step of the way, in whatever way you’ll have me.”
Finally, the girl smiled — the first real, genuine smile he had seen from her in weeks.
Viperion’s heart soared with relief.
“You’re right you know,” she said, uncurling her fingers to once more reveal the clip. “You didn’t need this lucky clip to tell me how you feel. Though, to be honest, I feel like I’m the lucky one.”
Slowly setting the clip down beside them, Ladybug reached up, pressing one hand to Viperion’s cheek and the other to the back of his head.
His eyes fell closed as he bent his head low, his lips catching hers just as she pressed closer to meet him. This time, his hands floated to her waist, the moment weaving a delicate new melody around him.
Her lips were softer than he’d ever imagined... and tasted faintly of pistachios.
No, he thought distantly. I’m definitely the lucky one.

ooh you’re taking requests! How about “I know it hurts, I’m sorry.” for ani and obi?
Sure! 😁 Thanks for the prompt, @ahsokryze!
From these caretaker dialogue prompts: 15. “I know it hurts, I’m sorry.”
When Anakin had, in his lowest, most spiteful moments, wished Obi-Wan could have felt a fraction of the pain he went through losing a limb, he didn't mean it literally.
But there Obi-Wan was, floating in a bacta tank, missing two legs above the knee.
He looks like half a person, was Anakin's first thought, and then he wanted to hit himself.
"Sir!" A familiar voice came from the corner of the room, and Anakin turned to see it was Commander Cody who had scrambled to attention.
"At ease, Cody," Anakin said immediately, stepping closer to the clone but returning his eyes to Obi-Wan. "What happened?"
"...It's all in the report, sir, I--"
"I don't want to hear what the report says happened, I want to hear what you say happened."
Cody nodded, swallowing. He took a moment to respond. "It was Ventress, sir. She had the General captured and when we found him he was like this."
"Two limbs down," Anakin said bitterly.
"Yes," Cody replied, turning and facing him more directly. "But also... in a bacta tank. Apparently she kept injuring him and then healing it just enough so he wouldn't die before resuming the torture. When we arrived, he was just starting the cycle."
"What?" Anakin asked, finally tearing his eyes away from his former Master and meeting Cody's. "What do you mean she put him in a bacta tank?"
Cody shrugged hesitantly, just as confused as he was. "I guess she wanted the torture without the death that would have come from the blood loss if she had left him alone after."
"Yeah..." Anakin shook his head, moving on for the moment. "How long does he have left in here?"
"Not much longer," Cody said, checking the time on his comm. "You got here just in time."
Anakin forced himself not to feel bitter about that. He'd heard about what had happened to Obi-Wan and had immediately wanted to rush to his side, but the 501st hadn't been done fighting their battle and even after that they were still a day away by hyperspace. By the time the Resolute reached the Negotiator, Obi-Wan had been in bacta for over thirty-six hours, and Anakin was practically tearing his hair out.
But maybe it was good he hadn't been there for those long hours. It wasn't as if he could have done anything.
Fuzzy, the 212th's Chief Medical Officer, entered the room then, followed by a few of his staff.
"General Skywalker," he said grimly. "I'm glad you were able to make it."
"What can you tell me about Obi-Wan?" Anakin asked instead of returning niceties.
Fuzzy did not seem offended at Anakin's lack of tact. "It was a bilateral above-the-knee amputation, as you can see," he gestured to the tank. "Ventress used a lightsaber, judging by the cauterization that was present when we arrived. The bacta he was in and the bacta we transferred him to did him good. I hesitate to use the word 'thankfully' in regards to Ventress, but because she got him in bacta quickly after, he'll have a much less fraught process with prosthetics."
Anakin grit his teeth. This wasn't making any sense. Why would Ventress act like this?
But before he could voice the question aloud, an alarm went off. Obi-Wan's eyes had flown open in the bacta tank, and he was struggling against the various tubes and wires he was attached to.
"Get him out before he aspirates!" Fuzzy ordered to his fellow medics, instantly springing into action. Anakin darted forward too, ignoring the fact that he was probably getting in the way, and concentrated on sending Obi-Wan calming energy through the Force.
It was a chaotic minute or two, but eventually Obi-Wan was half-conscious on the medical bed, wet from the water they'd sprayed on him to get rid of the bacta coverage his skin.
"Obi-Wan?" Anakin asked, as Obi-Wan opened his eyes all the way and blinked a few times.
"An'kin?" Obi-Wan rasped, confused. "Thought you were on Felucia."
"I was," Anakin said, desperately relieved that Obi-Wan was awake and at least somewhat lucid. "But I heard what happened and wanted to come see you."
"What... happened?" Obi-Wan repeated, eyebrows furrowing. Anakin could tell the moment he remembered, because the heart rate monitor spiked and the Force flooded with fear-pain-confusion.
"Hey, hey, it's alright!" Anakin said, pressing his hand over Obi-Wan's chest to try to prevent him from sitting up, but it was moot. Obi-Wan's eyes had already locked on the bedsheets, and how flat they went halfway down his thighs where the rest of his legs should be.
Obi-Wan went white then, and Anakin was able to push him back down easily.
The room was silent, broken only by Obi-Wan's breath as it went in and out of his nose.
"So," Obi-Wan rasped eventually. "Ventress."
"Yeah," Anakin said. "She..." He shrugged helplessly. "She did that and then put you in a tank."
Obi-Wan frowned. "What kind of tank?" he asked, mind no doubt running through images of the armored vehicles they were used to in war.
"No, a bacta tank."
"A bacta tank?" Obi-Wan repeated, sounding like this was the thing that confused him the most. Anakin could relate.
"Yup."
"But why...?" Then Obi-Wan's face cleared. "Dooku."
Now it was Anakin's turn to frown. "What does Dooku have to do with this?"
Obi-Wan grimaced. "He is my grandmaster, technically, and he has demonstrated on occasion an interest in preserving my life, if not my wellbeing. Ventress most likely obeyed some instruction to keep me alive."
Anakin blinked, processing. "That's... str--"
He was cut off by a cry of pain from Obi-Wan, whose face was screwing up as he arched his back as best he could.
"Whoah, what hurts?" Anakin asked, hands hovering uselessly in the air above Obi-Wan's body.
Obi-Wan looked at him miserably. "I... It's my foot. It feels like my foot is on fire."
Anakin's face cleared, though he still felt miserable inside watching Obi-Wan in pain. "I know it hurts, I'm sorry. Phantom limb pain is the worst."
Obi-Wan huffed, high-pitched and breathy. "Now I know."
"Yeah," Anakin said grimly. "I've got a few tricks I could teach you."
"That'd be--" Obi-Wan paused to grimace in pain again, then continued, "much appreciated, thank you."
Anakin nodded, determined. He would be there for Obi-Wan the way Obi-Wan had been there for him after his arm, and give him endless patience and support. His Master deserved nothing less.

Two faces of the same coin
Pairing: Tenma x ghost-looking! reader. Part 2
Part 1
Here we go! Enjoy! 💕
.
You were used to people reacting a certain way when seeing you since you were young.
Be it your pale skin, eyebags or voice, you ended up not taking it too personally as you grew up. After all it was a general statement you didn't have the best sleeping pattern, and that your hair and posture needed to be worked on. Still, you enjoy peaceful time alone -no glances or scared whispers- although you had to admit this boy had broken a record.
"Dammit...!"
After even frightening you from the intense shriek that came out of his throat, in a poor attempt to run away from you he had stumbled and crashed into a chair so hard you were now wincing as he fell to the harsh floor.
Ouch. Concerned, you approached the groaning teen in pain. “Are you-?” Tenma didn't let you even finish. Violently shaking he turned his back on you, curling into a ball.
“This is not real, this is not real, this is not...!"
He kept mentioning words like curse and death in between, and you could only stare back trying to process what was happening. "Sorry If I scared you. I was-”
“I won't say anything!" he kept on pleading, refusing to open his eyes "I really-REALLY don't taste good please just let me leave!!"
It wasn’t working. You decided to get up from the floor, which only made Tenma pale even more at the sound of something moving.
“I won’t, uh- do anything.” you hesitated. “You, uh, hurt your head right?”
The loud and repetitive pleads died slowly on his lips, and as he opened one eye to glance your way he might have as well. Pale face, somber looks… you both stood in silence in the empty room for a while, you waiting patiently.
"...what?"
He seemed to find again his voice, or at least enough for you to hear. You brushed the dust off you as he flinched at the sudden movement, still on guard.
"I'm, uh- I'm not a ghost." You took out your student card, your name and student photo -equally terrifying some would say. "See?"
An uncomfortable silence filled the air.
Tenma stares at you for a long moment. One could practically see the wheels turning in his head, trying to keep up. And then, just as quickly as he had paled, the color red made way to his face.
“…ah?”
Right. Great answer.
You tilted your head while putting the student card back in your pocket. Maybe he hit his head harder than it looked? “So... what are you doing here? Not that you can't, I guess. I also like it here even though we are not supposed to but- you know. You surprised me a bit too."
Tenma's eyebrows knitted together as he slowly stood up from the floor, not understanding what you were saying. The adrenaline rush was leaving him and could feel himself starting to calm down a little, finally letting his guards down.
“What do you mean. I-Isn’t a library a normal place to work?”
“Yeah. This is the old building though. The new one is on the opposite side..."
You waited patiently watching how Tenma breathed in once again, crimson becoming more and more intense as seconds passed. You had never seen anyone behave like that and he hoped the ground could swallow him about right now. “I... I knew that! I knew that I was just looking around because uh- I’ve never seen this place before!”
“It is rusty.”
More awkward silence from you both. Tenma looked at you and at his pile of books. You looked at them too in reflex, not understanding why a student could have so much book carrying around. "Sumeragi... Tenma?"
"Don't look!" said leader troupe was quick to hide his name, though he was well aware it didn't matter at this point. He tried to avoid your gaze. Shit. Shit, shit, shit last thing he needed today. "Just- don't tell anyone. I'm serious!"
Without sparing another second glance at you and still feeling his face burning, he took everything and left.
His forehead hurt.
One week later
“Why do we have to do this every time?”
“Come on! Don’t tell me you’re afraid to lose?"
“I am not afraid to lose." Tenma frowned at the other two members of mankai. The three were sitting under the shade of a tree in the courtyard, something they took as a routine whenever they didn’t use the cafeteria. Background laughs and conversations could be heard from students around the patio, enjoying their free time before the bell rang and called them back again to their respective classes. He huffed. "This is stupid."
"Got it!" Taichi moved around his arm dramatically "Ready…? Rock, paper, scissors!”
Three hands presented their results with different reactions altogether.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Aw yeah, paper is the best! It's your turn to go buy drinks Ten-chan!”
“I wanna strawberry juice.”
“Soda for me!”
“Tsk,” Tenma squinted his eyes at his hand and sighed, getting up and dusting away grass from his uniform, taking their coins. “Fine. Strawberry juice and a Green tea.”
“H-hold on, I said soda!”
“I’ll get going.”
“Yeah.”
“Ten-chan I was joking please!!”
It had been a few days after the library incident and so far, he hadn't heard any weird rumor of him- to which he counted it as a big safe considering the situation. Weird, but safe.
“Oh come on.”
After buying Taichi’s and Juza’s drinks, Tenma kept shoving his hand into his pockets, cursing at his emptiness. He was sure he had brought his wallet with him to school… maybe he left it in his room after all? A sigh left his lips, wondering how long would his bad luck last.
Until his exams passed maybe? He hoped not. He had managed to get Tsumugi to teach him at night after a few days of begging his homeroom teacher, revising together all concepts that Tenma couldn't seem to grasp. It had been embarrassing to let him check all his late school results, but at the end of the day it was Tsumugi. And well, Tsumugi was fine. Unlike Itaru, he was always-
“Excuse me.”
Tenma covered his mouth at the close sound of the eerie voice. A shiver definitely running from the last strands of hair until his very own toenails.
Yeah, finding you blinking at him- too close for his taste- took all the strength he had to not scream in public. He stepped back from you. his heart practically on his throat. “W-what are you doing!?”
“Ah, sorry. Thought talking louder would be better. Didn't mean to scare you”
“UH?! I-I wasn’t scared! I-uh, I was just surprised!" Even in plain daylight of the hall in comparison to the sinister darkness of the old library room, Tenma still felt like he was talking to a- Well.
A ghost.
You took a step back away from him too, pointing your forehead “You don't have a bump anymore.”
He touched his own forehead unconsciously. Right, Igawa had made a fuss about it when he saw it. Thanks to Omi’s ointment though it was already almost not existent though. He always worried too much.
“I’m glad.”
"Uh, thanks."
Very much opposite to your physical appearance, your voice while husky and kinda odd, was calm. It made Tenma feel weird, though it was probably because you kept staring at him. Why didn’t you go away?
“Are you... a fan? Do you want like, an autograph or something?”
You pointed behind him. "I was just waiting for my turn.”
His cheeks grew warm self-consciously, moving so you could insert your coins.
“I’m guessing you couldn't find more coins for three drinks,” You suddenly commented looking at the drinks in his hands. Ignoring his confused face, you crouched down and picked the drink, turning to him. "You complained kinda loud so... here. Not sure if you'll like it but I think it's good."
"What? I don't need it."
“It’s fine. Take it as an apology." you shrugged offhandedly. You placed it on top of his other drinks and turned once again to the machine. "It was my fault I scared you anyway.”
Tenma stared at your hunched figure while you got another drink. "Then," you waved your hand slightly and left the place quietly to who knows where.
He didn't even manage to wave back. What had just happened?
“Oh man...”
“Tenma-kun, are you okay?”
Students' whispers made him come back to his senses, losing sight of the path you had walked out. “What?”
“Did that person say anything weird to you? You know, like threaten you or something.” they pointed to where you left
“Uh- no.”
Some sighed relieved while others stared at the machine, as if you might have cursed- somehow.
Tenma frowned. It was true it hadn't been the smoothest conversation, but saying you might have tried to do something to him felt wrong. "Why do you all say that?"
"Ah? Mmm well..."
"Just look at them I guess."
"Yeah I don't know man. Gives me the creeps whenever they walk around. As if our school wasn't already scary inducing."
"Whoah, that's so mean."
"Are you saying you don't think it's true?"
"Tenma-kun, if you have time want to come have lunch with us? We..."
As they kept talking, Tenma looked down, the drink you had bought in his hand; Chocolate milkshake.
"It was my fault I scared you anyway.”
Later on
“Stupid old library...” he found himself growling for the umpteenth time "Should have just leave it be."
Another week had passed before he found the courage and once again, adventured himself around the old halls, carrying one chocolate drink.
I must have gone crazy.
Tenma just didn’t wanna be in debt with anyone. Yeah, that was it. Even if you scared the soul out of him, he had somewhat gotten the sense that you weren’t all bad -although your memories still left him trembling- and if there was something he hated more than anything, it was people making assumptions of others. He learned it from Mankai. Especially from his own troupe.
“Are you lost again?”
However old habits are hard to break.
“Dammit! Do you always need to talk like that?!"
"It's my voice, can't help it." You two had found each other at the corner of the hall. Tenma wasn't sure if this counted as good or bad. "…Do you need help to find the new library? I can draw you a map if you want me to”
“I-I was just about to do it, I don’t need-!”
“Ah- you should be careful not to crash on a chair again. Some are really old“
He placed the two drinks on the table making you blink, not sure how to react.
The awkward silence stretched, and Tenma felt his own cheeks heat up. "D-don't misunderstand, I just don't like to be indebted and I really didn't need that drink last time okay?"
A few seconds pass by. And then. Then he hears your laugh.
“You’re a really nice guy you know.”
His stomach jumps and doesn’t say anything for a while. Embarrassing. He felt his face was going to light on fire. He tried to focus his attention on something else- Not that he enjoyed it. The place itself wasn't comfortable looking.
“...Why do you hide here anyway? It doesn’t help with, well,” he didn't finish the sentence, feeling it sounded wrong -even though it was kinda true.
“I wouldn't say I hide" You hummed mindlessly while opening the drink, giving it a go before turning your attention back to him "I found it a few months ago while looking for a place to study. People overreact when they see me, so I’ve been coming here. I think it’s a pretty chill place myself.”
Tenma stared at you. At your dark eye bags and messy hair. You could definitely get a role in any horror movie you might want for sure. Yet there you were, happily drinking a chocolate milkshake in the old side of your very own high school.
“...You are weird.”
You laughed again. “For someone who’s supposed to be scared but still frequents the same place, I’d say the same about you.”

part 1 read on ao3
“So you’re telling me that you haven’t Iris Messaged Annabeth in a month?”
“She was with her cousin, Ma.”
His mother stopped the car right next to Goode—the high school he would (hopefully) be attending in August.
She turned to look at him, that motherly stern look that always came up when she knew he wasn’t telling her everything.
“What?”
She shrugged. “Whatever you say. But physically, you haven’t seen her since last January! I’m just worried that—”
“We emailed each other, though—”
“Yes, but it’s not the same.” At Percy’s roll of the eyes, she held her hands up in surrender. “All I’m saying is to…see if there’s anything wrong. I have a feeling she didn’t want to IM you for some other reason. And I know you, Perce. You have the same feeling as I do.”
He did, but that wasn’t the point. So he kissed his mom on the cheek and stepped out of the car.
“Good luck on your date! And with, um, school!”
He threw her a thumbs up and shouldered his backpack.
Too bad that luck wasn’t on his side that day.
She saw him before he saw her.
He’s grown, was the first thing that came to Annabeth’s mind.
His clothing peppered in burn holes, the smoke wafting further back, and the pretty girl chasing him was registered later.
She saw him before he saw her, and so Percy bumped into her in the alleyway. Her hands went to his shoulders, steadying him.
“Whoah!” she said, laughing. “Watch where you’re going, Seaweed Brain!”
Maybe he thought he’d be late for our date. That’s why he’s in such a hurry.
It didn’t matter. Because he was here, and he was just a bit taller than her—his hair was longer than she remembered, but his green eyes were the same, beautiful color, and...
Then she caught his panicked look. Then she caught the girl behind him and the smoke and his burnt clothing.
“What happened?”
Before he could reply, the redhead called out, “Percy! Wait up!”
Her flip-flops echoed across the relatively quiet street, interrupting Annabeth’s thought process.
“And who‘s she?”
Percy turned to the other girl and waited until she arrived next to them. He glanced at Annabeth, wincing. “It’s uh…it’s a long story.”
“You promised to explain,” the girl insisted, breathless. “About the monsters and the gods and everything.”
“Wait,” Annabeth said. “She’s a demigod?”
“No.”
At the same time, the girl tilted her head and said, “So you’re one of them, too, huh?”
Annabeth felt her mouth fall open in disbelief. She met Percy’s eyes. “You told some mortal about us?”
“My name’s Rachel.”
And my name’s I-don’t-give-a-fuck.
“She can see through the mist,” is all he said.
She shook her head. Out of everything that could happen today…and this was what Fate had decided on.
“Come on.” She tugged on Percy’s arm. “We’re leaving before whatever attacked you comes back.”
He followed her, but not without gazing back at Rachel as though he wanted to stay with her. As though it were easier than being with Annabeth. There was something bubbling in her stomach at that, something that boiled her insides.
“Wait!” Rachel shouted. “You promised to explain!”
She sprinted toward them and took out a sharpie marker she’d sprung out from thin air. Annabeth rolled her eyes. Rachel grasped Percy’s arm and began writing something that looked like numbers.
She wasn’t rolling her eyes anymore.
“My phone number,” Rachel explained. Then she winked at him. “Whenever you can, call me.”
.
“What was all that about?” Annabeth said. She’d already stormed ahead, taking the lead.
He tried to explain. He’d gone to Goode’s orientation tour, just like she knew he would. There, he’d been attacked by empousa cheerleaders, and thanks to Rachel’s Sight, he’d survived.
“I’d be dead if it weren’t for her,” he said, eyeing his marked arm. “I have to repay her in some way.”
“So now you have her phone number,” she said lightly.
“Uh…yeah.”
“She’s really cute.”
Percy stopped in his tracks. She stopped as well and looked back, realizing that he was staring at her exasperatedly.
“Aw, come on, Annabeth. You and I are literally dating, and I just saw her today—well, except for last year—”
“You’ve met her before?”
He scratched his head, shifting from one foot to the other. “I, uh…yeah. Last year at Hoover Dam.”
Right. When he was looking for me.
She kept walking again.
“Are you seriously upset because of her?” He tried to grab her hand, but she pulled away. “‘Beth, I never—”
“Anyway, I don’t think we can go on our date anymore.” Her tone was scathing, like sharp, twisted knives. But she didn’t care. The gods hated her, apparently, because she and Percy could never be a normal teenage couple.
“Oh, so now you can get all angry with me when we couldn’t even call properly because of your cousin? Not even a single call?”
“That empousai said that the camp would go up in flames, we need to—”
“Don’t change the subject.” He ran up to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, making her halt. The few baby fat he’d still preserved back in winter was gone, replaced with the hints of someone older; with a harshness akin to his father, the Sea God. “How much time did you actually spend with your cousin? Honestly. He couldn’t have been with you all the time, and I tried to be nice and understanding, but did you really—”
“If what that empousa warned you about is true, then we need to head to camp. Right now.”
She left before he could talk about anything else involving her pathetic lies. Left before he could see her blinking back tears. She ran directly into Argus’ van, and once Percy had closed the door, she told the bodyguard to drive directly to camp. No detours.
They didn’t talk on the way there. She stared out the window, watching the passing farms and the cotton sky.
Her first meeting with Percy after months apart and it couldn’t have gone better.
.
The thing is: Annabeth had changed her mind about camp. In her plans, she’d stay in San Francisco for longer than usual, just to be as far away from Camp Half-Blood as possible. Then, she’d go to New York City, and her and Percy would be taken to camp by Argus.
But plans changed.
Her mother had come, weeks before Annabeth would leave as initially intended. For some strange reason, she’d knocked on her door like Luke all those months ago.
A spluttering Frederick had answered this time. Annabeth trailed behind him, cautious for anything.
Cautious for anything didn’t mean she’d thought Athena would ever consider stopping by.
“Mom?” she’d said, eyes wide.
After greetings were made, Athena had insisted she go to camp immediately. “They are counting on you to be there, Annabeth. You must go. Before it’s too late.”
Annabeth recalled what she’d told Luke:
“People are counting on you—on me”
But hearing it from her mother, seeing her so insistent—enough so that she’d come, personally, to her porch steps—made Annabeth reconsider.
Anyway, this was Athena. Her mother. Who was she to displease her?
So she buried all her worries about Luke and Percy and followed her; in the blink of an eye, she’d arrived at camp, Athena nowhere to be seen. Annabeth hadn’t even had the chance to ask her about why she’d decided to help, out of the blue.
But Athena was right; camp needed her. Apparently, Clarisse’s top-secret quest from last winter had to do with venturing into the Labyrinth. She and Chiron had rescued Chris Rodriguez, an ex-camper who was scouting it in the hopes of finding an entrance to camp for Luke’s army. He’d fallen victim to madness in those dark, underground walls. No one knew why—only that he needed help.
Not only that, but throughout those few weeks, she’d felt as if her mother’s face was implanted in her mind like a brand; she swore she saw those grey eyes everywhere. While she got familiar with Quintus and Mrs. O’Leary. While planning with Clarisse and Chiron. While hanging out with Silena. While scouring the forest with Grover and his new girlfriend, Juniper—searching for an entrance to the Labyrinth.
It got to the point where she lit a match and watched as dozens of olives burst into flames, in the hopes that Athena would respond.
“What do you want from me?”
“Please answer.”
“What do you know that we don’t?”
Everything.
That’s what she’d say, probably. But Annabeth would never know, because Athena never answered. She nearly burned down cabin seven because of this. In her frustration, she scooped up the remaining olives, stomped across camp, and threw them into the sea.
“Thanks for everything,” she muttered, watching the waves greedily drag the olives away.
She didn’t feel eyes burning into her neck after that, but coming back with Percy restarted the process all over again.
An owl was perched on Thalia’s tree. She ignored it, only for it to come back while her and Percy both sat to hear what the Council of Cloven Elders had to say about Grover’s search for Pan.
.
“Mom. What do you want?”
“Lovely way of greeting your visiting mother, I see.”
Annabeth sighed.
After reasurances to Grover that, ‘Everything will be alright. Don’t worry. I know you’ll find Pan before the Council’s deadline,’ she’d taken to the trees. To where that grey owl was perched.
The owl disappeared, however. Replaced by the goddess of wisdom. So now both mother and daughter stood, a few feet apart, while everyone else gathered on the other side. No one noticed the secret meeting.
“You prayed to me,” Athena said. “Of course I would answer. Even if you did throw the offerings away.”
To where Annabeth threw them away was left unsaid; Athena knew. She knew, and she’d likely come because of it.
Annabeth shrugged.
“You’re angry with me,” Athena observed. “Anger must be controlled, or else unwise decisions happen. Like throwing a prized possession into the sea.”
“Well, Mother,” Annabeth said, jaw tense. “You haven’t exactly been clear about why you’re following me around. Or about why you wanted me to go to camp early in the first place.”
Athena was rarely quick to anger. She calculated everything, patient and firm, just like now.
“Knowing the intentions of the divine can either be a blessing or a curse.”
“But you’re about to tell me something. About to answer me. Am I cursed, then?”
Athena cocked her head, considering.
“No,” she finally said.
There was a glint in her eyes, something that told Annabeth that she was holding back.
“Well, then...I am asking again: why are you here?”
“Because I foresee that you shall lead a quest.”
A pause. Her comment was precise, abrupt as a frigid wind. Annabeth felt herself gaping like a fish. Quickly, she clamped her mouth shut. That was all she wanted, wasn’t it? To lead a quest? But then why did she feel such a profound sense of dread?
“I came to warn you. It won’t be easy.”
She restrained the urge to roll her eyes. “Quests aren’t meant to be easy.”
“Never stray from the plan,” Athena said, ignoring her comment. Her eyes were grey as granite, face hard as marble. “I know that you can…manage your hubris, but this time, it’ll be the ultimate trial for what you can or can’t do. If you can yield or not. You and Perseus both. Hubris can be controlled, but if control itself is the problem...that is very dire, indeed.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I may have made a mistake in assuming Perseus’ fatal flaw. Maybe not. In any case...you must be careful.”
“You assumed what his fatal flaw is?”
Athena regarded her carefully, like one does when studying an ancient scroll. “You can ask him about it. Since you two are...close.”
She said close as if it was a foregin word on her tongue, something she wanted to get rid of.
Of course she knew.
“About that, I don’t care what you—”
“I give you the benefit of the doubt,” Athena said, an eyebrow raised. “My children are known to make wise, rational decisions. I can only hope that you won’t become an exception to that rule. I do not approve, but it is your life. Your choice.”
Annabeth’s mouth felt like sand. Choices. She’d begun to hate them, now.
“What’s Percy’s fatal flaw?”
“Even to me, it’s uncertain.”
“But you have some idea.”
“As do you, my daughter.”
“I thought knowledge is power.”
“Yes. Knowledge is power. But how do you know that the knowledge you possess is true? How do you know if it’s not? Fate, however, is already decided; all we can do is prepare for the worst.”
“What’s going to happen, then?” Annabeth felt like she was barely able to grasp for something to hold on to, waiting— begging —for the ground to steady itself. “What will happen to Luke? What’s my role in all of this?”
Athena only shook her head. “Knowing something and having the wits to use it are two separate things.” Then she turned around, her time at camp over as well as her vague and unreliable warnings. “I must go. Good luck, Annabeth, on your quest.”
“A quest no one has even mentioned —”
“And watch for Percy Jackson.”
She vanished into the canopy, morphing into that same, grey owl. A single feather fell from the sky and settled quietly into the ground next to Annabeth’s sneakers. It mocked her, that feather. She kicked it away, then thought better of it and rubbed it into the dirt with her heel, destroying every single trace.
Your choice.
.
Neither her nor Percy mentioned their earlier fight. It became a discarded page, ripped off and torn into pieces like an old math textbook. It gave her space to breathe, to start over. A part of her knew that it wasn’t right, and that eventually, they’d have to talk about it—but that was eventually. This was now.
During the “now,” she filled Percy in on the Labyrinth.
(The Labyrinth will be the quest your mom mentioned. It can’t be about anything else)
He listened to everything she had to say and stayed even while Clarisse was there, too.
(Probably because they’re friends. They just hate to admit it.)
They ignored the catcalls and the teasing. She expected it, anyway.
(“So the rumors are true,” Malcolm said, wiggling his eyebrows and making her roll her eyes. “You and Percy are a thing, now.”
“Uh…yeah.”
“And you never thought to tell me? Like, I’m not surprised or anything, but—hey! Don’t hit me! Okay, fine, everyone knew since you two held hands and made gooey eyes at each other and stuff last January—stop hitting me!”)
Later, her and Percy sat together by the warmth of the campfire, roasting s’mores. She enjoyed laying her head on his shoulder and kissing his cheek. She laughed at his horrible singing and held his hand later that night, swinging their arms up and down as they walked toward cabin three.
Joking around and taking comfort in the sound of the crickets, Annabeth understood what it was like to love someone. It was a different kind of love than that of Luke. She watched him smile wide, watched the way his eyes crinkled as she rolled her eyes about Clarisse and Silena. That’s when it crossed her mind: their friendship hadn’t changed. Not really.
Even though they hadn’t seen each other for six months or so, and even though their newest step to their relationship had started weeks before that, their esense stayed the same. He was still Percy and she was still Annabeth. And that would never change.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Percy said, squeezing her hand.
“Oh, um. Just...thinking.”
“Well duh.”
“Shut up.”
He grinned at her, even as she shoved him off.
“No but seriously,” he said. “What’s wrong?”
She sighed. Her meeting with Athena had slipped into her mind like passing sticky notes and secret messages. “I want to talk about fatal flaws.”
She felt his hand tense. “What about them?”
“Just, I dunno, like...do you know yours?”
He was looking straight ahead when he said, “Your, uh, mom told me. Is personal loyalty even considered a flaw?”
“That’s what she said? That your fatal flaw is personal loyalty?”
He shrugged. “Guess so.”
So it’s true. She thinks she’s wrong.
“I mean, personal loyalty is considered a flaw, but...do you think it could be something else? Maybe?”
They locked eyes. The faraway hearth lit up his face, sharpening his features.
“Do you think it’s something else?”
“I don’t know.”
Another lie. Or was it? Could personal loyalty be his fatal flaw or could it be something else? Was Athena right? Was she wrong?
Percy raised his eyebrows. “You know something. You have that planning face look.”
“I don’t have a—”
“Uh, yeah you do. But whatever. It’s not like you know what my fatal flaw is.”
“I’m...yeah. I was just wondering since, well, I know about mine. And we’re so close to the Great Prophecy, and if you don’t know by now what your fatal flaw is, well—”
“It’s good that I know, then,” he cut in. “Good that I know my fatal flaw by now.” His eyes flicked to her. “Right?”
“Yeah. Right. Good.”
Nothing else was said after that. He stopped by the porch steps of cabin three and kissed her forehead. She closed her eyes, comforted like she had throughout the singalong. Comforted by Percy.
Until he closed his door and left her in the dark.
.
The next day, Quintus’ strange game involving scorpions and ribbons began with her being paired up with Percy. It was just their luck that they’d stumbled into the Labyrinth, of all places .
“So we’re stuck here.”
“Yep,” Percy confirmed.
“You’re not helping.”
“I’m only here for moral support. You’re the brains of the relationship.”
“Am not,” she grumbled. “You’re smart; stop pretending you aren’t.”
It was no use, anyway. She couldn’t find the mark of Daedalus in the darkness. They took a break from searching and calling for help to sit down, bunching up against a wall and leaning against the other.
“I never apologized.”
Percy’s voice in the hollow chambers nearly made her jump. She lifted her chin and tucked it into his collarbone.
“For what?” she said.
“The Rachel thing.”
“To be fair, I’d nearly forgotten.”
“Exactly. So I just…want to clear the air before it comes up again. And to say sorry for doubting you about your cousin.”
She shut her eyes tight. The truth was coming like undigested food; she was ready to spill it all out. But she swallowed the words instead—hating herself and loving this beautiful, selfless boy all at the same time. Round and round. Round and round it went.
“I’m sorry, too.”
“What are you sorry for? You were right to be angry with me. Like, all this time apart and suddenly a girl writes down her phone number on my arm , and then we can’t even have a normal date because I seem to mess that up, too.”
You’re perfect, she wanted to say. You’re perfect and I’m the one who messed everything up. Not you.
“We both reacted in stupid ways,” she said instead. “And anyway, I should’ve found the time to IM with you.”
He kissed the top of her head and mumbled into her hair, “You know you can tell me anything, right?”
“Yeah. I know.”
He pulled away from her. She could feel his gaze but couldn’t see him clearly. “Something’s bothering you, Annabeth. What’s wrong? What’s actually wrong?”
She pursed her lips.
“What if…what if we don’t make it?”
Her voice came out barely above a whisper, but in the drifting silence, it sounded like ringing bells, there for everyone to hear.
( “What if you don’t make it?” She could never dare to say that out loud, however. )
She felt Percy lace his fingers through hers. “We’ll be together. That’s something I know for sure.”
They chose silence after that. Annabeth rested her head against his shoulder once more, listening to the constant creaking and shifting of the Labyrinth.
“Hey,” Percy murmured.
She glanced at him. “Hmm?”
Suddenly, she was aware of his hand resting on her arm, of his breath warm against her cheek. She froze, just for a second.
“Can I kiss you?”
Now that she thought about it, they’d never kissed properly—just a quick peck here and there. She nearly laughed at how nervous Percy sounded, at how this was just like last winter as they asked permission for a simple kiss like the awkward teenagers that they were.
She nodded. “Yeah.”
He tucked a stray curl behind her ear and leaned in. He didn’t need to look far, not even in the darkness; she was already inches apart, closing her eyes and feeling their breaths slip by.
When their lips met, she decided that surrender tasted sweet and pure, something she’d willingly do over and over again. He kissed her and nothing else mattered, not Time or the dark or choices.
He was the first to pull away.
“We’ve, um, we’ve been in here for too long,” he said. “Let’s keep trying to find a way out.”
It wasn’t long until they did.
.
By the time they’d managed to slip out of the Labyrinth, hours had passed. Night had fallen like autumn leaves, though she swore that they’d been in the maze for thirty minutes at most.
By the time the campers and Chiron found them, she already knew that a quest would have to be made.
Just like her mother had promised, she was chosen to lead.
From what the oracle told her, she wished she could hide in her cabin and never come out. She wished that all of this was a dream and that absolutely nothing would happen—to anyone.
“The child of Athena’s final stand,” she’d said, repeating nearly all of her prophecy once Chiron asked her about it.
She paused and didn’t say the last line. The worst line. That line had cut to her bones. A rusted knife against her throat.
“And lose a love worse than death.”
She gazed at Percy. Innocent green eyes gazed right back at her, unwavering. What a terrible person she was, that she’d lead him to this fate because she couldn’t leave without him. How weak.
“Will you come?” she breathed.
He agreed without a second thought.
.
He found her in her cabin. They were alone, for once. And when he asked her what was wrong, when he looked at her like that, she couldn’t take it anymore. She surged to him, wrapping her arms around him tightly and secure, so he could never go away.
She breathed in his scent, feeling tears already trickling into his shirt.
“Hey, it’s—it’s okay. We’ll survive.”
“But what if we don’t?”
His hands drifted up to her back, steadying her.
She lifted her eyes, pulling away slightly, if only to see him clearly. A varying amount of emotions crossed his face. Concern, fear, love. Until he settled on concern and flicked away her stray tears with the pad of his thumb ever so gently. His eyebrows were pinched together.
“I just…” she said, looking away. “I just don’t want anything happening to yo—to any of you.”
“I’ll be here,” he said softly, cupping her cheek and moving it in his direction so that she could understand. “We’ll be okay.”
She wished she could believe that. Wished she could believe it with the same amount of heart that she poured into the kiss that followed. Her hands tugged at his hair, lips moving along with his like they never had before. They were warm and sure, his lips. But they could easily turn blue and cold, as easily as a flame could cease to exist. So she kissed him with everything she had so that his lips would stay warm like this, forever—passed her oxygen to him until there was nothing left to give.
.
Annabeth also chose Grover and Tyson to join her quest. With two more people, the quest team turned up as four instead of three; a feeling told her that she needed them all.
But three is a sacred number. Not four. This is why Zoë and Bianca passed on.
Three, not four.
And lose a love to worse than—
She strolled past the moving walls, the footfalls of the rest echoing behind her. Until she stopped. They were in a lavish room with a muraled painting of the gods, but that wasn’t the problem. The problem was the two doorways, the two paths.
“So?” Grover asked. “Which one do we uh…which one do we pick?”
Before she could answer, a man formed—or rather, a man with two faces. They stood in between the pathways, leering at her.
“Yes, Annabeth,” said one face.
“Which one do you pick?” said the other.
.
She kept mulling it over, what Hera had said. They’d encountered Janus, the god of doorways and beginnings and endings. And choices.
“Choose,” they’d said.
Instantly, images had painted themselves in her mind. In one, she was looking for Daedalus alongside Percy and Grover and Tyson. In the other, she was looking for Luke. “He can be saved,” her imaginary self muttered as she trudged through the Labyrinth alone, on the brink of madness. “If I save him, there will be no more death.”
But then more flashed through her mind. Choose one pathway, and she’d lose Percy, and soon after that, she’d lose Grover and Tyson. Choose the other, and she’d lose Luke instead.
“Choose.”
Everything had come to a pause when Hera arrived. She wanted to help them, apparently—only that that wasn’t true. Gods didn’t help. They only left you confused and disoriented, spinning around with no control.
She hadn’t helped, not that it surprised her.
None of them had any clue how to navigate the Labyrinth, only that supposedly Percy knew the answer. And also that they had to search for Hephaestus if they wanted to find Daedalus.
As a parting gift, she’d said, “I delayed Janus’ visit, but be careful, Annabeth. Your choice will come soon enough.”
“Let’s rest here,” Percy said, sensing her waning steps.
Despite her exhaustion, she insisted on taking first watch. She had to think. Pray. Slowly, everyone else fell into a slumber, but her mind was wide awake, gazing at Percy’s motionless form.
Prophecies had double meanings, didn’t they?
.
Her world was turned upside-down once she heard the explosion, once she went airborne for a few seconds only to hit her shoulder on a jagged rock. Immediately, she felt the sharp sting of pain. She clutched her shoulder, biting her lip. Her hand came back slick with blood.
“You chose this,” the two-faced god taunted her.
Then she heard a strangled scream. Percy’s scream. She inhaled sharply and scrambled to stand up, ignoring the scuttling spider that was getting farther and farther away and the stabbing pain traveling from her shoulder to the rest of her body.
“Percy!”
She ran in the direction from which she’d come from. Too late. Searing heat slapped her in the face before she understood what was happening. Another explosion came, and this time, she wasn’t so lucky.
Her body stumbled back, rocks caving in on her.
The sky. This is like the sky—
And everything went dark.
The darkness formed into a memory:
“No! I can’t leave you!”
“I’ve got a plan—promise!” he insisted. “You follow that metal spider to Hephaestus' lair, tell him about what’s going on.”
“But you’ll be killed!”
This was the choice; leave him or stay. Stay or leave.
“I’ll be fine,” he said. From the look in his eyes, Annabeth knew that she couldn’t convince him. He was decided. “Besides, we’ve got no choice.”
Yes, they did have a choice.
No.
Yes.
She kissed him instead. A quick kiss, a promise.
“Come back to me,” she said, fighting back tears. She pulled on her Yankees cap and left, then ran.
Her sobs escaped from her rib cage by then, finally free.
She woke to that memory and nothing else, head pounding like drums. The spider was long gone, and she stumbled around, drunk with grief. It was a miracle she found Hephaestus at all.
.
Hephaestus, thank the gods, understood her unintelligible blabbering. He took pity on her, perhaps, because he healed her physical wounds and dropped her off at camp. Never mind that Grover and Tyson were gone, on their own path looking for Pan. Never mind that Percy…
She broke down crying for the thousandth time that day when Chiron asked her what had happened. Why she’d staggered into camp all alone. Her heart, her entire being, spilled to the floor like water from an overfilled cup.
“Four went in and one came back. Only Annabeth came back,” the campers whispered among themselves. She saw their faces, saw their horror at realizing that Percy was likely dead, Grover and Tyson gone as well without much of a trace.
It drove her to hide. She stayed in bed for the next three days, not daring to close her eyes in the fear of what she may find there.
She thought that she’d run out of tears long ago, but they came anyway. She clamped her mouth shut so as not to alert any of her siblings who were asleep.
Your choice.
For the first time in the past two days, her eyes fluttered closed. She didn’t dream of anything at all.
.
Clarisse came barging into cabin seven the next morning.
“Come on, Princess,” she said, staring down at her. “You’ve gotta eat.”
Malcolm stood behind her, likely the one who had told Clarisse to come in the first place, since Annabeth hadn’t listened to any of her siblings about eating.
She tried to protest, to fight. But Clarisse was strong and had a purpose; Annabeth had nothing at all. So she sat in the dining pavilion, taking her time with her breakfast and ignoring everyone’s eyes on her.
Clarisse sat next to her, making sure she finished her food.
“Slowly, okay?” she said, then murmured, “Gods, when was the last time you ate something?”
“Shut the fuck up,” Annabeth snapped.
A few minutes passed in relative silence before Silena came to their table, offering solace.
“Hey, girlie,” she said. “How are you?”
Annabeth didn’t respond. Silena softly laid a hand on her shoulder, then decided better of it and pulled her in for a hug.
“You know it’s not your fault, right?” she said gently.
But it was.
Annabeth chose to leave him.
It took everything in her not to break down in Silena’s arms. Annabeth gave her a weak smile once she proposed to do something to pass the time. Like weaving, something she knew Annabeth enjoyed, being Athena’s daughter and all that.
So they did. Silena was good at it—good at making beautiful things. In the arts and crafts station, they spent most of the afternoon knitting and sewing as well, with Clarisse begrudgingly accompanying them.
She felt herself forget, her hands the only thing working. Not her mind. Not her subconscious or her guilt or her worry and fear.
It lasted only a moment. Because then she saw what she’d been working on for the past hour. Subconsciously, Annabeth had created a shroud. A beautiful one at that, with different hues of blue and green—just like his eyes. Just like the sea.
As if sensing her distress, the two girls looked up from what they were doing.
Clarisse said, “Is something wro—”
She didn’t need to say the rest, because Annabeth found her legs already moving, racing out the door.
“Let her,” she heard Silena say. “Give her space.”
She didn’t look back, sprinting to the one place where she knew Percy’s presence still thrived. Where she could be reminded that he would come back, just like he promised.
“I’ll be here.”
Cabin three didn’t look like much. Granted, she could barely focus on anything but her breathing—which was rapidly increasing its pace—but even so, she was reminded of how simple yet welcoming cabin three was in comparison to Zeus’.
It smelled like him. Like walking down the beach on a sunny day. Everything was as it always had been—clothes splayed haphazardly on the ground, bed unmade, stray papers adorning his nightstand.
She crumpled to her knees on the worn wooden planks. A great sob escaped her, and she covered her face with shaking hands
“He’s gone, Poseidon,” she cried. “He’s gone, and—and I’m so sorry.”
That night, she threw up everything she’d eaten.
.
“It is time,” Chiron said, his eyes dim with pity.
He preferred demigods dead, it seemed, than to try and look for them. She’d begged. Pleaded. Fallen to her knees until they bled. But it was no use; her teacher was convinced he was dead, and by the time the second week passed without Percy showing up, he was declared as such.
“He’s powerful,” Clarisse had told her. “I trust your instincts. He’s not dead. Can’t be, or else I’d have to beat him up.”
She helped Annabeth try to talk Chiron out of the funeral but to no avail.
And he wasn’t. Annabeth knew, in her heart, that Percy wasn’t dead. Barely anyone believed her, however. She didn’t blame them; no one knew about the last line of the prophecy for her quest.
But a pestering voice reminded her of something else: Percy was not, by any means, her only loved one. That voice sounded eerily like Janus.
What if it’s Luke?
He was nothing to her, now. She swore that he wasn’t.
What if Percy is dead?
That’s when Silena squeezed her shoulder, repeating what Chiron had told her the day prior.
“It’s time.”
Everyone who had gathered by the Amphitheatre waited for her to give out her statement, grim-faced. Chiron stood at the center of it all, the shroud she’d made at the arts and crafts cabin in his hands.
She hated that shroud with all her being, but she took it anyway once she stepped the last of the stairs. The fire next to her kissed her cheeks like the warmth of the sun. But inside, all she felt was cold. His body hadn’t been found…yet the shroud that she clutched in her hands would burn with Percy’s life.
“He…” Her eyes drifted to the shimmering cloth. How could she ever describe Percy Jackson? How could she ever put him into words? “He was kind,” she began. Her voice was unrecognizable, even to her. “He was probably the bravest friend I’ve ever had, and…”
And then she saw him, grinning like an idiot behind everyone else.
.
“Bravest friend you ever had?” was the first thing he said, after their bone-crushing hug.
She wiped her tears away and laughed. For the moment, she didn’t care that he hadn't answered her frantic questions.
“Where have you been?”
“What happened?”
He was here and he was alive. Her arms still clung to his neck; she wasn’t sure she’d ever manage to fully let go.
“You’re my friend above everything else, Seaweed Brain. And yeah, I guess you’re pretty brave.”
A question formed at the tip of her tongue—the one asking once more about what had happened in that explosion, where he’d been all this time; she knew that Percy could tell.
He was about to say something when Chiron interrupted them.
“My boy,” he said, mainly addressing Percy. “We need to talk.”
Percy’s demeanor changed like the shock of icy water to the face.
“Uh, yeah.” Something passed through his eyes; he glanced at her, then at their teacher. “I know how to navigate Labyrinth.”
.
Her relief became a ghost of the past once he explained himself. He told them the plan for the next part of the quest—for finding Grover and Tyson and finally Daedalus—but all she could hear was her ears ringing.
“I was marooned on an island.”
“I uh…I stayed there for some time, healing from the explosion.”
She was almost certain about where he’d been. And then he’d mentioned his plan to find Rachel, the pretty redhead who wrote her phone number on his arm. Supposedly, she could help them.
“A clear-sighted mortal,” Chiron had said. “Clever, indeed.”
Only it wasn’t. It was her quest. Her choice. Not his.
Annabeth stood from her chair. The screeching noise made Percy wince. “I can’t believe you! You’re asking me to go to that mortal for help?”
Chiron’s eyes were soft when he said, “Annabeth, calm down—”
“No, I’m not calming down, because Percy here wants—”
“It’s the only way,” Percy said, hands wrung together.
“Ohh don’t tell me what’s ‘the only way’ and what isn’t when you could’ve easily come back sooner.”
Percy opened his mouth, but she talked over him.
“You think I’m stupid? You think I’m dumb?”
“No, ‘Beth, I—”
“You were with that goddess,” she said, her voice taking a hard edge. “Calypso, isn’t it? Was she nice company for you? Did you have a good time while I sat here, waiting for you, as my life spiraled out of control because one of the most important people in my life was gone?”
Percy stammered, “‘Beth, please…just—just let me explain.”
She laughed bitterly, shaking her head. “You’re not denying it, either. That’s why you didn’t recount the entire story of your fun little vacation in a beautiful island with a beautiful goddess who was probably all over yo—”
He stood up then, leaning over the table, face inches apart from hers. “Don’t act so high and mighty with me when I know you lied to me about your cousin.”
“Percy, this isn’t even about—”
“No, no. You’re hearing me out. Okay? Hey, stop. Look me in the eyes. Nothing happened between us. Okay, nothing. She liked me, yes, but that is literally her curse! I knew you’d react that way because I’m realizing that you don’t fucking trust me!”
“What? Percy, I trust you with my life—”
“Then how come you never told me what was bothering you?”
“Because I don’t know what was bothering me!”
“Oh, that’s rich, coming from you! You know exactly what bothers you. But guess what? You won’t tell me! So like, don’t even dare accuse me of not revealing where I was when you do the exact same thing, ‘Beth!”
Annabeth felt like falling, but this time, she found no branch to hold onto and crashed to the ground, bleeding out and breathless.
Meanwhile, Percy kept talking, throwing javelins her way. “When you didn’t want to communicate via IM last semester, I agreed because I wanted to give you space to whatever the fuck was going on with you—and something is still going on, but you won’t tell me—and like, all that time while I was with her on that island, I wanted to go!
“I wanted to be with you! Shit, I don’t even know what I’d do without you, but I couldn’t fucking leave because that place is cursed! And when I did, it’s because she’d…she’d fallen in love with me! But I…but all I wanted was you!”
Silence fell over them with the remnants of Percy’s hard breathing. She blinked a few times, telling herself that she would not cry.
Chiron saved her before that could happen. “Now, children. Settle down. Percy. Give Annabeth some space to think about this.”
He obliged, much to her relief.
“This time, it’ll be the ultimate trial for what you can or can’t do. If you can yield or not.”
It all came down to that, to her mother’s words. She understood what they meant, now.
With just enough drachmas in her bag and a bluster assuring her that she would not fail, she grabbed Percy by the hand and crossed the camp border. Argus was waiting down below.

At Least I’ve Got You
The prompt for this one was drunk prinxiety, with the lines “I’m too sober for this.” ; “No. Regrets.” ; “How drunk was I?” ; and “Welcome back. Now fucking help me.”
Characters: Virgil, Roman, Patton, Logan
Relationships: The four are best friends and Virgil/Roman are dating. So this is for all you Prinxiety fans.
Warnings: Alcohol mention, injury, and cursing. Let me know if I need to add anything else.
...
"I'm just trying to help you look out for yourself! I wasn't trying to--"
"Well stop helping me! I'm sick of being babied like this, I'm not a fucking child!" Virgil snapped. "Just leave me alone!"
"But...kiddo--"
"I am NOT your 'kiddo!' Don't call me that!"
"Virgil…" He stiffened as Patton's hand touched his shoulder.
"Get away from me!" Virgil snarled and lashed out with one hand, forcefully shoving Patton away and storming towards the door.
"Wait, where are you going? Virgil please--"
He slammed the door behind him and ran into the street, Patton's wounded voice echoing in his ears as he desperately tried to get away from the house and its occupant. Then he suddenly stopped, the realization of what he'd just done smacking him in the face as if a car had hit him. Oh my God...I just hit Patton...I just hit my best friend...he swayed on his feet, turning back to his friend's house, then froze.
I can't go back there.
I can't face Patton. Not after I just did that...
Virgil stumbled forward across the street and tripped over the curb, collapsing into a heap on the sidewalk. He growled and pounded a fist into it, then scrambled to his feet once again. WheredoIgowheredoIgo...Gotta get out of here. Now.
"What's this? My dark and stormy night is...out during the day?"
Oh no. Not right now. Virgil groaned and turned around.
"What do you want?"
"Whoah, you look like someone just ran over your puppy. Are you alright?" Roman's expression quickly twisted into a look of concern when he saw his boyfriend's uncharacteristically stricken face.
"It's nothing," Virgil growled. He started walking again, but Roman would not be deterred. He raced after him, matching the storm cloud's pace once he caught up.
"Right, and I'm the king of France. C'mon, you can tell me anything Virge! You know I'm here for you!" Virgil leveled a glare at Roman, who stared back at him with that stupidly cute face of his, then sighed in defeat. His boyfriend raised an eyebrow, unsure as to whether or not his victory was certain yet.
"I got in a fight with Pat," he stated bluntly.
"With Pat?" Virgil winced when he saw the expression of bafflement flutter across Roman's face. "But...but how? You two are like...best friends...since like forever!" he spluttered.
"He worries about me too much." Well, there's probably a better way to say it than that...
"You do realize that he's not the only one who's worried about you..." Roman said slowly. He seemed more hesitant than normal, and Virgil looked back at him in confusion. "Pat's just...the most open about his concern for you."
"Oh, don't you get all sappy on me too," Virgil grumbled.
"You know I'm right, Surly Temple." Virgil hissed and shoved Roman, who easily recovered and flashed him a smile, dropping the serious expression in an instant. He was good at that; a good actor. Not to mention cute.
"I'm too sober for this," Virgil growled.
"Too sober for what?" Roman glanced at his boyfriend, one eyebrow raised.
"Talking to you." Roman grinned.
"I can fix that."
"Please."
---
Roman hummed to himself as his old red pickup truck bumped up one of the area's many mountain roads, one hand on the steering wheel while the other was wrapped around a can of booze. Virgil was curled up in the passenger seat, quietly staring out at the scenery as he sipped from an identical can.
"I don't feel like I deserve to be friends with Patton sometimes," he said suddenly, shaking his head. His tone had completely changed from the anger of earlier, and Roman glanced back at him as he spoke. Virgil sounded almost...sad. "He's always so nice to me, you know? And he's always concerned about me and checking up, asking if I've been eating..."
"That's what friends do, Virgil," Roman answered gently. "They care for each other. And you--" he set his can down in the cupholder and gently bumped Virgil's shoulder with his fist "--certainly are lucky to have someone that's so concerned about your well-being."
"I keep messing it up."
"You're human. Humans aren't perfect, you know. Not even me." Roman grinned.
"Mmmm." Virgil sighed and leaned back, neither answering his boyfriend nor acknowledging his awful joke. Instead he looked like he was thinking, that or perhaps he was about to fall asleep.
"Don't crash on me yet, we're almost there," Roman warned him.
"Mmmph."
"You're coming star-watching with me if I have to drag you up that mountain. Don't test me." Virgil rolled his eyes and finished his can of beer, reaching for another.
"Why are we going to look at a bunch of dumb stars anyways?" He asked grumpily.
"Because they're pretty and I know you like them even if you spend all your time pretending that you don't."
"Falsehood!" Virgil shouted, borrowing from their friend Logan's vocabulary for a moment. Maybe he really was out of it, he never did that. "I just think they're boring is all."
"Liar."
"Hssssss."
Roman only grinned, shook his head, and tipped the last of what remained in his beer can into his mouth. "Can you hand me another one?" He asked.
"We're out."
"Check under the seat." Virgil checked and let out a whistle.
"Fuck yeah," he hissed, grabbing two more cans; one for Roman and one for himself. Before he could right himself, however, Roman spun the steering wheel and the truck swerved, Virgil letting out a strangled yelp as the truck bounced off the road and into a tiny little parking area overlooking a cliff.
"We're here!" Roman announced.
"Bitch, gimmie a warning next time!" Virgil's angry voice sounded muffled.
"Maybe if you'd wear a seatbelt this wouldn't be a problem."
Virgil glared up at his boyfriend from where he was now crammed onto the floor beneath the truck's dashboard, his shoulders wedged into the small area between the seat and dash where the door was. Somehow, the two beer cans were still safe in his hands. Roman smiled sweetly and took both, before sliding out of the truck and coming around to open the door. Immediately Virgil tumbled out of the tight space, landing in a heap on the gravel lot.
"I hate you," he snapped.
A can was pressed into his hands.
"Nevermind." Virgil allowed Roman to help him to his feet, a little surprised when he pulled him in for a hug but allowing it nonetheless. Yeah, he was really out of it.
"Everything hurts," he muttered.
"I'll carry you."
"You wha--" Virgil's question was cut off by another yelp when Roman suddenly swept him off his feet in one swift motion, carrying him bridal style to the back of the truck. Somehow he managed to open it, though Virgil wasn't sure how given that he was already juggling a beer can and a human being. He didn't ask, though.
"This right here..." Roman grunted as he set his much smaller boyfriend down, then climbed up onto the truck beside him, "...is what I meant. Not wearing a seatbelt could get you killed, Virgil. You can't keep doing stuff like this to yourself."
"Mmmph," Virgil hadn't moved from where Roman had set him down, not wanting to upset any of his bruises.
"You're cold aren't you?"
"Definitely not." Roman sighed, moving forward and opening the window to the back of the truck. He reached in and pulled out a blanket, tossing it to Virgil. His boyfriend didn't try to catch it but Roman saw his face light up when it landed on him--though he'd deny it off course--before he grabbed it and pulled it over his body.
"Thanks."
Roman came back and sat down cross-legged next to Virgil, unable to hide his smile when the other boy shifted so that his head was in his lap. He absentmindedly ran a hand through Virgil's hair as they watched the stars come out one by one, sipping at their beer and enjoying each other's company in silence.
After a while, however, they started to chat. They talked about a lot of things; the past, the present, the future, their friends and family; hopes and dreams. Virgil seemed to forget about being cold and ended up perched on the roof of the truck, laughing at one of Roman's stories from middle school while he dramatically reenacted it on the truck bed. Once he'd finished Roman suddenly seemed to get very serious, and then a crazy smile slowly spread across his face.
"Virgil, have you ever flown before?" He asked. His speech sounded funny and slurred even to Virgil's fuzzy brain, and he shook his head.
"We don't have wings, you idiot."
"Oh you won't need wings for this."
"Need wings for wh-AT THE FUCK, ROMAN!" Virgil's unholy shriek pierced the air as Roman clumsily charged forward and crashed into him, sending the pair flying over the edge and down the steep embankment that waited beyond the truck bed. They rolled and tumbled and twisted and screamed until they finally came to a stop; Roman when he collided with a tree and Virgil when he got tangled in an impossibly huge bush.
"I DID IT! I FLEW! VIRGIL DID YOU SEE THAT?"And that was the last thing Virgil remembered before everything faded into darkness.
---
He was the first to awaken some time the next morning. Virgil only knew it was morning because the birds were singing and his back felt warm; his hood which had somehow ended up yanked over his face made it impossible to see anything at all. Everything ached and Virgil's fuzzy mind couldn't decipher why that was at all until he tried to move. A streak of pain shot up his leg when he tried to pull it towards his body and he hissed, confused by the crackling sound that followed the movement.
Are those...leaves? Am I sitting in a bush?
He tried to move his arm and discovered that, while it ached too, no shooting pain accompanied it when he pulled it towards his face. Something--or rather, multiple somethings poked and snagged at his sleeves, but he finally got his arm where he needed it to be and managed to pry his hood away from his face.
Something he instantly regretted.
"FUCK, MY EYES!" Virgil shrieked, throwing his hands up to protect them as sunlight exploded in his vision, bright and hot and painful. A headache quickly throbbed into existence behind his forehead.
"Virgil? You're alive!" Roman's happy but pained yelp from somewhere--he wasn't sure where--only made the headache worse, and Virgil groaned.
"Welcome back. Now fucking help me," he growled with all the strength he could muster. He heard thrashing nearby and then something touched his shoulder.
"How drunk was I? What the hell happened?"
"You pushed me off a fucking cliff, you idiot!"
"I did?" Roman sounded appalled. "I don't remember that at all!"
"Does it look like I pushed myself? My fucking ankle's dead and it's your fault!"
"Okay okay, shut up and hold still. I'm gonna try and untangle you, save the complaining for later."
"Cause I was gonna do what? Go for a stroll?"
"Remember the shut up part." Virgil hissed but didn't say anything more as something grabbed his arms and gently helped pry him loose from the bush, hauling him up so that he and Roman were standing side-by-side. Virgil kept all his weight on his good leg and his gaze on the ground away from the awful sunlight, slowly shaking his head. Everything was throbbing. His eyes were throbbing.
"I think that was the dumbest thing I've ever seen you do," he muttered. Roman laughed.
"No regrets!" he shouted, pumping a fist into the air and wincing at the pain that brought him. "Wish I remembered it though."
"How about I give you some regrets?" Virgil snapped. "How the fuck are we gonna get up this now? By levitating?"
"I'll help you. Lean on me and I'll help support your weight."
"Fantastic. We're gonna die."
"Oh shut up, we're not gonna die." Roman helped support his boyfriend and together the pair struggled up the muddy slope, Virgil cursing his bad luck every two seconds and Roman holding back laughter wherever he spotted flattened patches of foliage that either he or Virgil must have crashed through. Virgil's ankle could hardly support any weight and as they tackled the climb Roman grew increasingly worried that they might not reach the top, and end up having to call someone instead. If they had service. Roman didn't say anything about his worries out loud though, not wanting to scare Virgil any more than he already had.
When they got back to the truck Roman let out a shout of excitement that startled Virgil so badly he nearly fell down the cliff again, but his boyfriend caught him before that could happen.
"Sorry," he muttered sheepishly, ducking his head to avoid the death glare that was now resting on him.
"One of these days I'm going to kill you."
Roman opened his mouth to reply, but before he could he realized that his truck wasn't the only one parked in the lot anymore. A small silver car was now sitting next to it, two familiar faces seated in the driver's and passenger's seats. The one in the driver's seat nudged the other one, who looked to have fallen asleep, when he saw the pair approaching. The other one jolted upright, shouted something unintelligible when he saw Roman and Virgil, and flung the door open.
"Thank God you two are okay!"
Patton. Roman felt Virgil tense as their friend exited the car, holding an arm protectively over him just in case, but he needn't have worried. Patton didn't look angry at all; only relieved; rushing over to them and looking all over the pair for injuries.
"What are you guys doing here?" Roman asked.
"You guys weren't answering my calls and we got worried--oh Virgil, your ankle! That looks like it hurts!" Virgil's gaze flicked over to Roman, who nodded to him and then looked at Patton.
"Uh yeah...there was an unfortunate accident..." He offered unhelpfully.
"Let's get you two to my house, Logan and I can patch you up. Ki--ah, Virgil, is it okay if I help Roman get you to the car?" Virgil hesitated, then nodded slowly. Of course he could trust Patton, his fuzzy mind knew, even if he'd fucked up again. You could always trust Patton to be there for you.
"Patton I…I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier...I-I was just really--"
"Don't worry about it. We'll talk about it once we're back and your ankle's feeling better, okay?"
"O-Okay."
The three hobbled slowly back to the car and Roman and Patton helped Virgil into the backseat, before Roman climbed in next to him and Patton got back in his seat.
"I'm glad to see that neither of you were badly injured," Logan said as he started the car. Virgil and Roman exchanged glances, and Roman nodded.
"Yeah," was all he said.
The rest of the drive was in silence. Logan drove the group all the way back to Patton's house, the only conversation that occurred being him offering to take Roman back to get his truck when he wasn't hungover. He accepted, of course.
The teacher was out of the car first once they got back; calmly helping Virgil out with a firm and steady grip. Virgil frantically looked around for Roman once he was standing and of course he was there, and when he saw the look on his boyfriend's face he winked and swept him off his feet just like the night before, carrying him inside. Virgil didn't even protest, he was too tired to.
He felt surprisingly safe and secure there in Roman's arms, and he allowed himself a small smile.
"Roman?"
"Yeah?"
"I...I love you. Even if you're an idiot." Roman just grinned at him.
"I love you too, Virgil."

katsuki bakugo
There was a reason why blasty boy wanted to keep your relationship private. Literally everyone in Class 1-A was super nosy. Excluding a select few, and he didn’t need a bunch of extras intruding the relationship. You agreed that you wanted to keep it secret as well, enjoying the cuddles and kisses behind closed doors. Neither of you were super into PDA so it wasn’t too hard for the both of you to restrain yourselves. He was used to seeing you joke around with Denki, Mina, and Kirishima so he didn’t really pay too much mind to the innuendos and flirty jokes thrown back and forth. He knew you’d never leave him for either of those idiots and he trusted you enough to stop when things go a bit too far.
Despite him calling them idiots, he trusted his friends to not make a serious pass at you or say anything that would make you uncomfortable. He did get upset when Mina kissed your cheek once but he restrained himself enough because he knew it was just a friendly gesture.
His patience did get tested around Mineta but he always enjoyed watching you kick that idiots ass and making him fall to his knees and beg for an apology. Never fails to make him smile. But there were times where he couldn’t keep his anger at bay, like now.
You guys were out with the bakusquad at a festival, some of your guys’ other classmates followed along. It was going pretty well so far when the night was ending and you had basically had to drag Bakugo over to the game booths.
“Please Suki, it’ll be fun~ Just one game.” You pleaded, pulling out the pouty lips and puppy dog eyes.
“No, I’m not paying for a damned game that’s probably rigged or something.” He crossed his arms.
“What if I paid and you just played with me?”
He huffed in annoyance. “No, don’t wast your money on that crap.”
“Whatever, I’ll just play one myself.” You rolled your eyes and went to a booth, waiting in line to play.
“Oooh who’s that with (y/n)? They’re really cute!” Mina squealed, that caught Bakugo’s attention. A popping noise and black smoke emitted from his palms as he watched the scene in front of him. This person had the audacity to wrap their arm around your waist and try to hit on you.
“Whoah Bakugo, relax.” Kirishima placed a hand on his shoulder but it was shrugged off as Bakugo stomped over to you.
“HEY! Get your grubby hands off of my s/o!”
“Whoa, whoa hey, relax dude.” They pulled away from you and held their hands up defensively.
“Don’t tell me to relax asshole! They clearly didn’t want you so close to them, so back off!” he let poor sweat pool into his hand and the popping intensified, you could already feel the heat radiating from it.
“Alright babe, that’s enough...let’s just go.” You place a gentle hand on his shoulder. He glared at the person who was just all over you and grabbed your waist, pulling you into him and hungrily swallowing your lips in a hungry kiss. A kiss to show everyone that you were his an no one else’s.
Needless to say, the bakusquad was just waiting for the two of you to date, they just hadn’t expected the two of you to already be a couple and they definitely didn’t expect Bakugo to be the one to out the both of you.
“Wow.” You mumbled as the both of you pulled away breathlessly. “What happened to not letting the extra’s know?” You teased.
“Shut up idiot, I had to show ‘em who you belong to.” He looked away, blush on his cheeks.
You gasped. “Was somebody jealous?”
“Wow Bakubro! You’re such a tsundere!” Kirishima snickered.
“You have two seconds to run, airheads!” He growled as he unwrapped his arms from your waist and chased after them.
“Yup...that’s my boyfriend.” You sighed, flinching at the sound of an explosion not too far off.
“You sure know how to pick ‘em, (y/n)!” Mina giggled from beside you.
“Yes, yes I do.”
shoto todoroki
It’s not like the two of you were hiding your relationship on purpose but it was more like, no one had really asked or anything so you just didn’t see the need to bring attention to it. The relationship was fairly new to the both of you so it was very nice to be able to figure it all out while not having any unwanted attention. Todoroki was a sweet boyfriend, he was very hesitant about initiating any physical contact because he was terrified of being like his father. You reassurance definitely helped but you also didn’t mind taking it slow. You weren’t much of a fan of Endeavor. You never were, not before meeting Shoto and definitely not after.
Today, Class 1-A was having a competition of quirks. It would work like a bracket competition until there was one person standing. Endeavor had caught word and decided to sit in and watch. You had beat Tokoyami and moved onto the next round, Shoto had beat Uraraka and moved on as well. Your eyes widening when the next bracket was announced.
“Alright, Todoroki and (L/n)! Be on standby, the two of you are next.”
The both of you stared at each other with wide eyes. When you guys started dating, you agreed that you wouldn’t hold back during training or battle simulations. You had never been paired up though, so this was a bit of a shock.
“Come on (y/n)! You’ve got this!” Ojiro patted your shoulder as he walked past you since his was the bracket that had just ended.
“SHOTO!” The sudden shout caused you to jump and turn towards the source, not very surprised to see Endeavor sitting in the stands, All Might and Present Mic seated next to him.
“You two ready?” Aizawa asked as the two of you got prepared.
“Ready.” Shoto’s smooth voice calmed your racing heart.
“Ready.” You nodded.
“Alright! Begin!”
Shoto watched as lightning enveloped your body, hair starting to float upward (think of killua’s godspeed). He knew how dangerous your quirk was, especially with how much you’ve trained to strengthen it. You could produce at least 1billion volts without passing out. The same amount of electricity as a raw lightning bolt. The sound of a loud crackle of lightning snapped him out of his trance and he scowled, keeping his senses alert, as he looked around. You disappeared, or that’s what it seemed like. Within a blink of an eye you appeared right in front of him.
“Peek a boo~” You teased, you placed your hands on his chest and sent a mild blast of lightning into him and he flew backwards, using his ice to stop him from flying out of bounds. A small smirk spread across his lips as he skid to a stop.
“Come on (y/n), I thought we agreed to give it all we got.”
“All right then Shoto, bring it on.”
Aizawa instantly regretted not setting a time limit when your battle lasted past the 10 minute mark. Not that anyone was complaining though. Watching two people with high skill sets battle it out was intriguing. Endeavor, however, was furious. Clenching his jaw impossibly tighter every time you got the upper hand.
Towards the 17 minute mark, you had taken a substantial amount of damage already. You were slowly growing more, and more fatigued. Shoto could tell and decided to ease up. But when he attacked, you could tell.
“No, d-don’t hold b-back! I’m not weak!” He could tell that you were frustrated with your performance and he wanted nothing more than to hold you in his arms and tell you that you were anything but weak. He noticed that you were gonna do your ‘signature move’ so before you could complete it, he encased you in ice. Aizawa was a bout to call it when the ice cracked before a loud boom was heard and ice was sent flying everywhere. He watched in horror as you collapsed to the ground.
“Todoroki wi-”
“(Y/N)!” Everyone was shocked as he ran to you, dropping to his knees to check if you were okay. “(Y/n)? Darling please...” He cupped your cheek, thumb running over your cheekbone. His fear may have seemed a tad bit irrational but he panicked. He vowed to himself to never hurt you in any way, so in his eyes he was the same as his father. Once your eyes opened he sat you up and brought your lips to his, “I’m sorry, my love. I’m sorry.”
“Wow, maybe I should get hurt more often.” You chuckled.
“No fair!!! Todoroki has more game than I do!” Denki complained. Well, that cat’s out of the bag.
“Shoto!! What do you think you’re doing?!” Oh right...Endeavor.
tamaki amajiki
I think it’s a bit obvious why he wanted to keep the relationship a secret, he didn’t think he could handle it if other people knew. Mirio and Nejire definitely had their suspicions but didn’t want to overwhelm their friend with accusations.
He was looking for you during lunch, you had said that there was something you needed to take care of something before lunch but that was over half an hour ago. He was mumbling worriedly to his two friends, assuming the worst.
“Oh wait, are you talking about (y/n)?” Nejire tapped her chin. “I saw them go into the hero support classroom. They said something about a suit upgrade.”
Just then, you had entered the cafeteria, but you weren’t alone. You were with Keita...he was another third year who was in the advanced hero support class. They were also known to be a huge flirt. Tamaki couldn’t help but feel jealous as he watched how they had made you laugh, the pink tinge covering your cheeks was worrying as well. The two of you split and went your separate ways.
“Hey (y/n)! How’s it goin’?” Mirio asked as you sat down.
“I’m so excited, my upgrade request finally went through! I’m finally getting a new suit!” He thought you looked cute as you expressed your excitement before guilt filled his entire being as he realized that he was jealous over nothing.
Over the next couple of weeks, you had spent an awful lot of time smiling at your phone, not to mention spending a lot of time with Keita. He knew that creating a whole new suit was a long process. It took a long time to test out prototypes and whatnot but he couldn’t help but think that you were losing interest in him. That you were spending more time with Keita because he was doing a horrible job as your boyfriend. Because he wasn’t there when you needed him or because you just got fed up with his timid nature.
Somewhere inside of him, he knew none of it was true but he couldn’t help but think that he wasn’t good enough anymore. You had noticed that he was acting strange so you decided to ask him about him.
“Tama? Is everything okay? You’ve been acting a little strange recently...” He gulped nervously.
“Well I uh, I-” He sighed heavily. “Do you still want to be with me, (y/n)?” The question completely threw you off guard.
“Of course I still want to be with you Tamaki? Why would you think that?” He scratched the back of his neck sheepishly.
“Well y-youv’e been h-hanging out w-with Keita a lot, s-so I just thought...well I don’t know.”
You frowned and cupped his cheeks to tilt his face back up so you could look into his eyes. “Baby, why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“I was n-nervous...I d-didn’t want you to think I w-was being clingy.” He stuttered, the tips of his ears turning red.
“Aww Tama but I love it when you’re clingy~” you leaned forward and pressed a kiss in the tip of his nose which made his cheeks erupt in heat. “Would it make you feel better if I stopped hanging out with Keita so much?”
“B-but what about your suit?”
“Well it’s pretty much done by now, all the prototype testing was done today.”
He was happy that you were spending more time with him lately but one day when you were walking down the hall together, Keita had approached both of you.
“Hey (y/n), so I know your suit is done and everything but I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me?”
“Oh Keita, I’m sorry.” You slipped your hand into Tamaki’s and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “I’m already dating someone.”
Tamaki turned and leaned his head against your shoulder in embarrassment. Keita apologized and left you two there. You turned and held Tamaki in your arms, lettin him keep his face buried in your shoulder.
“I’m sorry I embarrassed you Tama, but now everyone knows.”
Legend has it that Nejire and Mirio are teasing the both of you about it to this day.
shota aizawa
The reason why Aizawa wanted to keep the relationship secret was because you were a petty well know pro hero and with the onslaught of villain attacks against his students and the school, he couldn’t endanger you by putting a target on your back. You were also a young pro, you were only 4 years younger than him, and he didn’t wan to “ruin” your image.
One night, you had gone out for some drinks with Miruko. The two of you had been good friends since your UA days and that bond hadn’t broken. She said she’d be bringing a friend along, you just shrugged it off and told her it was fine. What you hadn’t expected was to see her and a certain maroon winged hero strut into the bar. You were mortified. The memory of telling her you thought he was hot coming back to you and slamming you like a 50 ton truck. That was before you started your relationship with Shota but Rumi hadn’t known about that.
“Hey (y/n) this is Takami.” You smiled politely at the blonde. “Takami this is (y/n).”
“Very nice to meet you.” He grinned flirtatiously.
“Likewise.” You shook his hand, internally groaning. This was gonna be a long night.
A couple of drinks in, you switched to water and club soda so you could sober up. You had an early patrol the next morning and you did not want to risk being hungover on the job. The entire night you had to fend off a flirty Takami. However, what you weren’t aware of was the person a few feet away from you snapping pictures of you and the blonde hero.
The next morning, you woke up to multiple tabloid articles about the two of you in the bar. The dating scandal was trending all over social media. You hadn’t really thought much about it and just went to work like usual.
When Aizawa saw the tabloid he frowned. He was a little conflicted because he obviously knew it wasn’t true and he had complete trust in you but he couldn’t help but feel insecure and a little jealous. There was no denying that people loved the idea of you and Hawks together, even he couldn’t deny that the two of you looked good together.
Later on in the day, you decided to make your way to the school to see Shota because the guilt in your stomach just wouldn’t go away. Even if you hadn’t really done anything, you still felt horrible. You had told Aizawa you would be showing up during your lunch break, he said he’d be waiting for you at the school gate. A few journalists had seen you make your way towards UA and decided to bombard you with tons of questions about Hawks.
“When did you two start dating?!”
“Where did you guys meet?!”
“Do you two usually meet up at bars?!” etc, etc...You had your bottom lip tucked painfully between your teeth.
“Actually, they’re already in a relationship.” The sudden deep voice behind you made you grin. His arm wrapped around you and pulled you into his side, pressing a kiss right under your ear. “Now if you’ll excuse us...” And with that, the two of you made your way onto campus.
“That was very out of character for you, Aizawa-sensei~” You purred teasingly. He grinned and pulled you flush against him, chest to chest, leaning down to kiss you deeply.
“Well I couldn’t help myself from getting jealous, people were thinking you were with that blonde asshole. You’re mine baby.“
“Carry on then.” he didn’t need to be told twice as he dove in for another kiss. His students may or may not have seen that go down and they may or may not have teased him about it the next morning.

Guerrerita, Part 3
<- Part 2
Summary: The first time you met Nevada Ramirez was also in a dark alley.
1,577 words
“You owe me.”
“What?” you hissed, whipping around to face the threatening voice. You kept your face hard, showing no sign of weakness, even as you saw the three intimidating men who had followed you into the alley outside a shady, semi-legal MMA tournament.
“I had a lot of money riding on that fight,” said the shortest of the three, tsk-tsking. His shoes were shiny black leather—expensive, but tacky. He held a cigarette between his teeth when he wasn’t speaking and wore all black except for the gold cross flashing around his neck, pendant resting in a bed of dark chest hair. The two flanking him were bulky heavyweights, over six feet, at least two hundred-fifty pounds a piece, which meant you probably couldn’t take them. Not both at once. They dwarfed the center guy, but they were waiting on his signal to do anything. The small one was the brains. The boss. He was the one you had to keep your eyes on.
“So what? Not my problem.”
You shrugged your gym bag over you shoulder and turned to leave, but his goons stepped forward sharply, ready to grab you, and you thought better of it. As much as you’d rather not show them you were scared, this was the kind of dangerous you didn’t turn your back on.
“Oh, sweetheart. You think I’m playing? You come into my town, looking like a nervous mousy little rookie. Oh, pobrecita bebita, que tierna,” he mocked baby-talk at you, pouting his lips. “Get everyone betting against you, then the bell rings and you turn into a wild fucking animal. You run a hustle on my turf? Way I see it, that is your problem.”
Your left nostril began to twitch and the corner of your mouth curled into a snarl. “Then get some fucking glasses.” A small voice inside begged frantically, don’t do this now, calm down, but it was already drowned out by a dark, reckless pulsing in your ears. You didn’t like being threatened. Somewhere along the line your stubborn refusal to take any more shit from assholes turned into a fury you couldn’t control, that overrode your own self-preservation. Your bruised fists curled for another fight.
The boss just laughed, a harsh, barking, sarcastic show of power. His men stayed put, for now. “What a dirty mouth. Little warrior here, huh? I like that, I like that.” He prowled toward you, a crooked smirk without teeth bending his neatly trimmed stubble. If he wasn’t such a scumbag you would have called him handsome. Maybe that was what kept you at bay, apart from the knowledge that the second you launched yourself at him in a hail of fists, the two big guys would kill you—because his face was too pretty to bloody up. “Guerrerita, you don’t know who you’re fucking with.”
“You want money, go after the bookies. They’re the ones making bank,” you challenged, taking a few backwards steps to keep distance from him. “I don’t know what kind of hustle you think I’m running, but I bet my last fifty bucks on myself and I’ll still be lucky to make rent. I am not giving a cut to some wannabe gangsters.” You planted your feet at the spot where the alley curved and some old shipping crates created a pinch-point where your smaller size might afford some advantage, and refused to back off another inch.
He stopped, keeping several feet of distance, too. Taking one last drag, he threw his cigarette butt down and crushed it out.
“I’m the King of the Heights, sweetheart,” he explained, as if that should mean anything to you. “Nevada Ramirez.” He extended a hand to shake, and you dropped into a defensive stance. You didn’t like the way he looked you up and down, scrutinizing you with a gaze that made goosebumps rise along your arms. Your muscles twitched in anger and terror, and you tried to balance the two emotions so you could maybe get home in one piece.
“Alright, Mr. Ramirez. Why don’t you and your boys back the fuck off and let me go home. Because you try to follow me, rough me up? I promise it won’t be worth your time. You watched me fight. Before your boys back there can take me down, I’ll have your balls shoved down your goddamn throat. And yeah, you can have your boys shoot me dead.” You noticed the muscle had reached for concealed weapons the moment their boss got within range of your fists. “But what a waste. I’ve never done anything to you. I’m not a threat to your… kingdom? Not unless you attack me first. So why don’t we both just go about our merry ways in peace?”
He laughed again. Dry. Harsh. Your defiance entertained him, but he was growing impatient.
“What makes you think you can tell me how to run this town?” The hard edge to his voice raised the hairs on the back of your neck. As much as you liked to think you’d hit rock bottom and didn’t give a damn anymore, you’d never been murdered. As many impulsive fights as you’d gotten yourself into, you had never been so sure that losing would result in your body in a bag. He smiled when you had no more snappy comebacks, relishing the growing fear in your eyes. His posture opened up, suddenly all friendly. “You’ve got me all wrong. No one’s gonna kill you, guerrerita.”
“Then what do you want?”
“I want to know what’s a high-class broad like you doing here?” He raised his eyebrows. His knowing grin sent a jolt down your spine, and he looked satisfied by your reaction, which confirmed his assumption.
Nevada could read people, and he could smell suburbs on you. Nice house. Good family. Educated. White picket fence and a dog. Apparently he couldn’t smell the trauma or the failed stint in the Marines thanks to your occasional but fun penchant for sucker punching assholes without thought to rank.
“What’s it to you?” Your teeth ground together. Like hell you’d ever tell him that story.
“You owe me for that stunt in there. And I know how you can pay me back.”
Now it was your turn to laugh. “Good luck if you think my family will pay you ransom. You think I’d be here if—”
“Work for me.”
Your mind went blank. For several seconds you stared, wondering if you’d heard him right. Finally you blurted incredulously, “What?”
“Come work for me, and we call your debt even.” He looked you up and down again with a smirk. “Bet you clean up into some nice arm candy, classy girl like you.”
You took another step back despite yourself, stomach turning. “No fucking way. I don’t need a pimp, and if you even think of touching me I swear to fucking god...” Your voice turned into a threatening snarl as disgust turned to rage. Your muscles twitched, ready to do as much damage to his handsome, jeering face as possible before being killed. You would rather die than go through that again.
“Whoah, easy,” Nevada laughed, putting his hands up in surrender, but with enough dripping mockery to make it a power move. “Nothing like that. Security.”
“Security?”
“You get knocked in the head too many times?” he raised his eyebrows over his shoulder back at his guys, and they laughed along like trained seals. “Think about where you are. You just won a contest for beating the shit outta people. Security.”
“You want me to be a bodyguard?”
“Now she gets it,” he smiled, and it was pure delight. “Enforcers that look the part are a dime a dozen—face full of scars, covered in macho tats. They send a certain message, don’t they? Usually the intimidating shit is what you want. But some situations call for a bit more… nuance than these pendejos.” He jerked his thumb toward the giant brawlers still lurking behind him. One of them sulked. “You could be subtle. When business requires I don’t advertise I brought muscle. Imagine it,” his tongue darted over his lower lip. “Put you in a dress two sizes too small, and nobody sees you coming until your fist is through their skull. I bet folks underestimate you all the time.”
You almost laughed that the idea of protecting him when he must have known you’d just as soon put a fist through his skull. Working with criminals didn’t sit well with you. Though your life had been one downhill spiral since all the shit that kicked you off your shining life trajectory, you had never done anything illegal. If you didn’t count misdemeanor battery. Which you didn’t. You only punched assholes who deserved it. And you were fairly sure this Nevada Ramirez character deserved it. You didn’t trust him, and you did not take well to being shaken down.
But then he said people underestimated you. His eyes were the color of the sky before thunder: bright, ominous, and flashing dangerously. And when he said it, his bright eyes locked straight onto yours, like he knew. For the first time in your life, it felt like someone was seeing you, the deepest parts of you, and actually liked what he saw.
You didn’t have much of a choice, anyway. It was either accept the job, or have some drug kingpin sic his enforcers on you for your last dollar.
