I wonder if Eragon ever just sits around, thinks for two minutes and just sadly goes “I miss *insert farm animal*”

Regarding Oromis and his training ‘techniques’.
That crap was straight torcher. My poor baby Eragon.
No wonder Morzan was so mentally unbalanced and unstable. Time to write him cussing Oromis out in my AU

Looking back on my old Morzan aus, I maintain that Morzan having a redemption arc is a very fun and interesting concept because it provides a way to explore his original intentions through their transformation down the line, and I like considering the different impacts he could have had on Murtagh's life. I also stand by my decision to pair him with Brom each time because they make for the funniest couple imaginable. But I may need to go back to the idea, because I never got around to bringing it to its natural conclusion of Morzan/Selena/Brom: Alagaesia's most unhinged polycule.
Brom should have not just one, but two newly reformed ex evil henchmen lovers who he has to keep on leashes like excitable dogs because they're doing their best, but they're still way too quick to jump to murder as a potential solution to every problem they run into. And yet Morzan and Selena are also the ones to rein in Brom's absurdly convoluted and paranoid plans because their new moral compass has never once realized that part of the reason he's always going through it is because he causes himself twice as many problems as he solves. They'd be such an incredible mess, I need them together.
I just want to turn IC into a comedy about Morzan, Selena, and Brom attempting to dismantle the empire and assassinate the king without literally burning everything down in the process, while trying to raise their kids to be at least marginally less insane than them.

Eragon would be that white woman that sees one of those highly reactive pitbulls and be like “let’s get him a pup cup and sweater and name him Edgar.”

Morzan, Eragon and Murtaugh all prefer sleeping under their Dragon’s wings. But each dragon goes about it differently.
Morzan’s dragon likes to cave his wing and make a huge cave that just lets Morzan do his thing, walk around and whatever. They like being close but not always touching. They’re more of a quality time type pair.
Saphira likes to tuck her wings tighter but still gives Eragon his room to read and such. But it’s much more of a tent that’s cozy rather than roomy. They like to kinda cuddle when doing it, but there’s definitely legroom and Eragon can squirm like the little ADHD goblin he is.
Thorn just straight up smothers Murtaugh.

Got reminded Oromis poisoned Eragon at one point for a ‘teaching moment’
And now I’m just imagining Morzan walking up and knocking him out as Ergaon actively vomits into an airplane bag.

The dragons and what id think they sound like
Saphira: she purrs like a cat and coos. She has a very soft silvery voice when speaking in someone’s head, but on the outside she’s cooing or purring when she’s speaking. And when fighting or grumbling sounds more like an angry tiger.
Thorn: he kinda grumbles like a bunch of smooth stones rolling together in a constant rhythm, and has a slight hiss and serpentine sound when growling or making any sort of vocal noises. When speaking in someone’s head, I imagine a thick low Irish kinda tone as if it’s a 40 year old smoker who somehow didn’t damage their lungs enough to sound like death but still have that grumbling rasp that might fit a tavern singer that makes you rethink your life and not confessing to your first love.
Glaedr: he sounds like a large bovine, with a huffing kinda noise when making sounds. His growls are more what one might imagine from a bear or something. When speaking, he has a very smooth but scratchy voice at the same time. Like an old grandfather who’s dramatizing how he went to school up hill both ways.
Fírnen: he growls and whines like a big dog or a wolf. If he wasn’t a dragon he’d be barking at the mailman. His speaking voice is like a 20 year old who still hasn’t hit puberty just yet, so it’s deep enough where you go “oh, that’s not a child, that’s a man” but you still second guess yourself.
Morzan’s dragon (Ozias): whale noises. The coos, the song and the magic is all in his growl. Like his rider he got a smooth voice and is just majestical. His speaking voice after years of fighting off becoming a literal animal after losing his name is now soft and faded, but still holds that grand tone he used to have. Like an old opera singer on permanent vocal rest who can still hum a melody that can bring a tear to your eye.
Shurikan: clanking glass and medal, he makes no genuine sounds outside his hissing growls anymore. He’s too large and tired for it. But when moving he sounds like the chimes of a thousand swords clinking in a toast. Too harsh for a wineglass, but too gentle for true war. His speaking voice is slithery and slick, like oil melding with water as both are being poured.

I like to think in my AU Selena and Morzan are co-parent besties rather than actual lovers for any period of time outside of them having Murtaugh.
MOSTLY for the funny idea Morzan is fully aware Selena is with Brom and that he’s spying as a gardener but finds it funnier if Brom wasn’t aware he knew. And Selena and him go over all the dumb crap Brom has done within the past week over morning coffee.

Inheritance cycle characters and their favorite Disney movies
(Good Morzan AU and dragons included)
Eragon: sword in the stone. Kid gets a cool sword by the end and there’s a grouchy owl, how can you not love it?
Brom: sleeping beauty. He just wishes it was him.
Morzan: the little mermaid but was mortified to find him agreeing with triton the first time he watched it with Murtaugh.
Murtaugh: Bambi 2. You couldn’t pay him to watch the first one. 2 just has a good soundtrack and a cute plot line when you ignore the first.
Roran: his favorite movie is Fox and the hound, but he’s been stuck watching Frozen since his kids were first born and he needs someone to save him. He also can’t watch lion king without sobbing about Simba being left alone anymore.
Orik: beauty and the beast. He’s a hopeless romantic and loves the song ‘beauty and the beast’. And will hum the cut song ‘human again’ randomly throughout the film.
Thorn: Pete’s dragon. It reminds him of Murtaugh and him in a more goofy way.
Saphira: she loves Mulan, and the grandma is her favorite character. But she’ll tell you it’s Mulan who’s the favorite.
Arya: also loves Mulan. Same as Saphira but her favorites are the three soldiers that befriend Mulan because it reminds her of Roran, Murtaugh and Eragon. You can decide who is who.
nasuda: Cinderella, and princess and the frog. It’s a tie between the two because she admires Tiana’s work ethic alongside of getting her dreams of marriage and restaurant. But she also just wants Cinder’s dress, doesn’t matter if it’s live action or animated, she wants it.

For the ‘good’ morzan fic, I have him and his family living with the elves.
The amount of bullying my poor baby Murtaugh will go through hurts. But he does get a pet raccoon so levels it out.

For @thearunadragon I love you so much for asking for this and encouraging my delulu (also side note, LOVE your Dino interactions with the crew posts. Those make my day)
More ‘good Morzan’ AU dumps! Relationships edition!
Morzan’s relationship with Eragon at the start was kinda rocky. Eragon’s side reasonably being that he didn’t trust Morzan despite Murtaugh’s reassurances that his dad wasn’t foresworn anymore and just SLIGHTLY crazy. They meet after the battle of Furthen dur, because Morzan went to go get his runaway son because he’s a dummy that fights in a war on a random Tuesday.
Later on, by the time Oromis gets questionable in his training and Eragon’s condition is at its worst, Morzan calls Oromis out for being a bad teacher because he’s not willing to adapt to his student’s needs and is more likely to get Eragon killed. He takes over as Eragon’s teacher for the most part, and this is where they start getting closer. As Morzan pushes eragon despite his seizures, but also helps him learn his limits and adjust his learning in order to improve Eragon’s daily life. He becomes like a father figure and even tells Eragon about Brom, as Morzan is aware of Eragon’s parentage but doesn’t see it as his place to tell him.
Murtaugh and Eragon follow similar to the books at the start, but unlike canon, Murtaugh isn’t kidnapped until a little later and actually spends time with Morzan and Eragon. Murtaugh is the one to tell Eragon how his dad risked his life to escape with him. He also lets him know he’s allowed to keep Zar’oc because even if it’s his personal birthright, Eragon is the dragon rider in need of a rider sword.
Morzan gets along with Saphira well enough and she’s logical enough to understand that Morzan is one of the best people to teach her and Eragon. She’s cautious at first, but later by the time Morzan takes over teaching, she’s rather close to him and his dragon. Morzan is also highly respectful of her, but treats her like the kid she actually is. He also has a pretty heavy conversation with Eragon when the whole “relationships and I might forever be alone” issues start up.
Morzan’s Dragon is also a big goof, even if he’s one of the eldest and biggest dragons to exist nowadays. He baby’s Murtaugh even if when he had first been born, he was a stubborn butt and refused to admit his attachment. He likes to play and encourages Saphira to be a hatchling and have fun. Rolling in the grass, or flying in a funky or fun way that helps her loosen and learn how to do tighter turns, sharper dives and quicker take offs.
But, he’s also really calm and helps Eragon and Saphira a lot with their own relationship. Saph still develops her schoolgirl crush on Glaedar, but Morzan’s dragon is able to defuse the situation a little calmer than in canon. Although she still does lash out and needs a breather. They mostly just talk about respect, and that a mate isn’t everything, and not to be a pessimist about never finding a mate, as the world is a big place and they might not even be the last ones.
Oh, and none of them die by the end. When Murtaugh goes into his self banishment, Morzan and his dragon make it clear they’ll always have a home and be loved. And there’s always a place for redemption. Morzan’s dragon also basically Adopts Thorn but in a more uncle way than a fatherly way.
Also, Morzan’s dragon gets a new name. He’ll never be able to have his original or true one ever again, but a spell cast by the other dragons and magics users allow him to have a new name that won’t be forgotten.
Will probably make a part 2 to this soon that focuses purely on Morzan’s relationship with his dragon and son.

A little of the ‘good Morzan’ AU info dump that no one asked for!
Morzan didn’t immediately go good. Like in the canon, he was rash, rude, murderous and hyper aggressive. But that’s how every foresworn was, as (especially Morzan) was put under constant torture and being pitted against each other. His redemption is a gradual thing that starts with the death of one foresworn who was a friend and the disappearance of another who takes a decent part in the AU. (Both are OCs as we currently don’t have much info on the other foresworn) but doesn’t take full effect until Murtaugh’s birth and a close brush with death.
There were at least 4 foresworn who joined out of pure self preservation, 1 who joined to take care of his younger apprentice but was the first to die due to his weaknesses and lack of loyalty.
There was a particular foresworn who was even more aggressive than Morzan. Galbatorix killed him himself due to the uncontrollable nature of this foresworn. His death lead to the events that allowed one of the previous mentioned to change her name and escape at the cost of her dragon.
When Morzan escapes with Murtaugh and goes to live with the elves, he avoids Oromis until Eragon arrives to be trained,
The HTTYD soundtrack plays whenever Morzan flies his dragon. That is canon and no one can argue with it.
Morzan doesn’t get along with Dwarves for obvious reasons. But is very chill with the Urgals when they become allies in the war. He’s indifferent to the elves, and polite to the werecats. Angela being a creature in her own rights, is treaded around carefully because even Morzan isn’t THAT reckless.
When Murtaugh is captured by Galbatorix he is walking the line between suicidal and downright murder happy. He even asks Eragon to kill Murtaugh if he has the chance, in order to end his suffering.
If anyone wishes to know more, I have an unhealthy amount of thought out information. More will be revealed through fanfic writings. Nothing will be kept secret if asked because I’m impatient.

It’s such a hard debate deciding on how Morzan would react to Brom’s death. As he was basically a little brother/best friend to him.
Because on one hand he could be like
“Skill issue”
And on the other he could be like… genuinely sad and depressed about his death. And THEN go into “skill issue” territory. THESE are the questions AU writers have to ask, and I kinda have a love hate relationship with it.

In my ‘good’ Morzan AU, he is still feral.
However, instead of ever hitting or accidentally physically hurting murtaugh. They both use mental warfare.
And by that, I mean Morzan can and will teach his younger son swears so he can walk up and innocently call murtaugh them.
