speaking my truth again. i am a PROUD hater of the baby arc in season 8 i think it was unnecessary i think they could’ve replaced it with something more interesting and central to scullys character i think it actually NUKED her character especially in the revival and i think turning scullys character from ‘confident and repressed person learns how to give and receive love and trust’ to ‘mother has a baby and she’s a house wife now yayy’ was actually the worst writing choice ever and i hate everything

Crimes against Stephanie Brown:
Getting only 24 issues of her run as Batgirl. I wish she had more, after all isn't Cass getting now a new run as Batgirl again?
Not appearing at the boy wonder comic when it was specifically Robins related and instead they put Barbara as Batgirl (like if you wanted a Batgirl use the fucking Batgirl who used to be a Robin).
Not being included at birds of prey with Cass and Babs.
Getting 2 heroes team projects with her included rejected. (In one she was with Supergirl and Damian, denying us that is a hate crime)
Not appearing in Damian's drawing of people who loves him when she is canonically the first big sister figure he had and she helped him be a kid and have fun.
Getting her character denigrated by Tim's bisexual actions like: dumping her without giving her a reason or having a proper talk, ghosting her for months, only talk to her after their friends force him to do it and then without warning or asking her introducing his new boyfriend to her and make her react like a fujoshi 13 years old wattpad writter saying that "the best day ever" Is meeting her ex' new boyfriend in the most cringe way ever.
The time they tried to erase her time as Robin and Batgirl in the new 52 reboot
Only let her be Robin for 2 months and was fired for doing something every Robin has done more than once.
Dying so fast in DCeased when she became Damian's Robin and never coming back even after Taliah said she would use the Lazarus pit on her.
Not having a visual reaction of Selina, Cassandra, Dick and Babs to her being alive.
Jason not mentioning her to rub it on Batman's face when he came back to life for revenge or mentioning her to black mask, what a wasted opportunity!
Never had the realistic representation of the trauma she should have after being tortured by black mask.
Never hanging out properly again with huntress (well I think they were seen together again once but not enough), Supergirl, Black Canary or Green Arrow junior after the reboot.
The fact that in my opinion she never got a proper apology from all the people that wronged her and treated her badly, like a lesser fighter, like she was a bother, like she wasn't made for vigilante life, I think I saw Tim apologizing to her but it felt shallow.
Not showing us Tim visually crying for her death.
Completely ignore how was her very first interaction with Catwoman, in which Selina was extremely kind and sweet with her only to screw it in the second meeting in her run as Batgirl and later in the new 52 reboot making Selina be a jerk to her.
Making Alfred be cold and dry to her in their first interaction, yes he later cries on her death and then he is very happy when she comes back and later he stands up to her against Batman's stupid tests but it doesn't erase the fact that he was mean to her when he met her and I think that was out of character with Alfred.
Her teen pregnancy arc, some people might think this was a way to make her character more tragic and deep but that pregnancy arc didn't bring anything good to her character because it was all about Tim not her and it makes my blood boil. This arc was just a cheap "easy" Way to make Tim and Steph become closer in their relationship by making Tim be there for her and taking care of her even though he wasn't the father and help her and that and I suppose it was also to make more dramatic her death telling Batman that she had a daughter and Batman be all like: "I'll make sure the baby never has to ask for anything" And then Steph dies... Seriously this is the one thing I wish they could erase from canon FOREVER, making Steph go through that just to make her deepen her relationship with Tim only for getting killed off and eventually dumped with everything she already had on her plate was CRIMINAL
Jason not meeting her properly before the stupid new 52 reboot and still not having the trauma and dead Robin talk with her.

Satellite Call. Part VI: Let Me Hold Your Hand Again (Spencer Reid x Fem!BAU!Reader)
Tumblr media
------------------
Author Masterlist | Series Masterlist
------------------
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader.
Words count for this part: 4.5k
Series summary: Your world crushes when Spencer is arrested. Between finding a way to get him out and keeping you afloat, there is something else you need to focus on, too. And even when you thought things couldn’t go worse, a tragedy makes you question if you can make it through.
Part VI summary: THIS IS THE END. After your encounter with Cat Adams, everything goes down quickly. You're in the hospital, and Spencer has been released from Milburn with a lot of questions and the fear that maybe he can't talk to you ever again. Life would be merciful enough to give you a new chance and start?
Series warnings: ANGST (with CAPS). 18+ (MDNI). Some heavy topics will be discussed and shown here. Prison arc, but mostly from Reader's perspective and Emily’s. More detailed under the cut.
Spencer lies to his wife. Drug consumption (against their will). Pregnancy symptoms. Spencer is in jail for more than three months. Hospital visits, doctor’s info dumping (not accurate). Alcohol consumption. Arguing. Strong language. A lot of crying. Emotional breakdowns. A car crash happens (as in the CM storyline). Character dies. More hospital things. Miscarriage. More angst. Depressing symptoms. Mourning. Self-doubt. Suicidal ideation, and almost consummated. Emily is everyone’s emotional support.
---------------
Between a mix of autopilot and mental overdrive, Spencer arrives at the hospital. He frantically asks for you at the front desk, and before the nurse can answer, he sees Emily at the end of the hall. JJ and Luke come after him. Spencer literally runs up to Emily while JJ explains to the nurse who he is and why they are there.
“Tell me it’s not true. Tell me she’s okay.” His voice pleads for some kind of reassurance. Spencer still can’t make sense of why you are where you are or if any of this is even real.
“We don't have news yet. They are not sure if she’ll respond to the treatment,” Emily tries to explain.
“But- but why? I mean, JJ told me about Cat, but - is it true? Is she - was she-?” Spencer sputters all the words at the same time.
Emily lets out a deep sigh, guiding Spencer to sit.
“We need to talk.”
Spencer's heart shatters with every word Emily says, explaining and telling him everything that's happened to you over the past few months. It's a lot, and he doesn't know how to take it all in without thinking about all the pain you've been through and the possibility that you may not make it out alive.
Now, many things make sense to him, like why you seemed hesitant the times you visited him, why you stopped visiting him at some point, and why you wrote that letter.
Spencer can’t stop the tears from running down his cheeks. Fuck, he wants to scream, he wants to kill Cat. He wants to turn back time and never even think about going to Mexico.
“What did I do, Emily?” Spencer sobs. He feels so responsible for your current situation.
“Don’t say that. No one could have anticipated what would happen.”
Emily fully expected this. The moment Spencer knew the truth, he’d take responsibility for it. It's the reason why you didn't tell him about the accident and the baby before.
“If she dies, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Spencer cries, burying his face in his hands.
“Hey. Don’t think that. You need to think about how you're going to be there for her from now on,” Emily reminds him, trying to pry his hands out of his face.
“But if-“
“She's strong. She's been all along. It's my fault I left her alone after seeing Cat,” Emily shakes her head. “That moment was too much, even for her.”
“Why did you let her, Em? We know the kind of psycho Cat is.” Spencer’s voice isn’t accusatory; it's pained than everything.
“I tried, believe me. But you know your wife, Spencer. She thought it was the only way to save you. And I hate to admit it, but in a way, she was right.”
You did put yourself in that situation to save him, even if it would hurt you. And it did. You tried to mask it, but it clearly affected you.
What happened to you was a mistake? Was it an intended action? Emily doesn't want to venture, but she’s afraid of how you will deal with this if you make it alive.
Spencer doesn't know what to do with himself. He grasps the fact that he’s a free man but feels the weight of what he has lost and is in danger of losing. You were pregnant, for fuck sake! You did everything by yourself. And still, in the grieving process, you exposed yourself to Cat Adams in full vulnerability. He doesn't deserve you.
“I know what you are thinking,” Emily prompts once she sees Spencer going quiet for too long.
“You should have told me.”
“What could you possibly have done, Spencer? She knew better than anyone where we were standing. I can assure you it wasn't because she didn't want it.”
An hour later, the doctor who is treating you walks into the waiting room and calls your name to your relatives. Emily and Spencer stand in no time.
“He’s the husband; I’m her friend,” she explains. The doctor nods and checks his clipboard before meeting their waiting gazes.
“She’ll be okay,” he starts, and that sole phrase makes Spencer and Emily exhale with relief. “It wasn’t easy to clean her system, though; it almost compromised some vital organs. We found some recent internal injuries, and they bleed, too. Her chart says she was in an accident, and she had a miscarriage.”
Emily nods in silence, and Spencer clenches his jaw and fists.
“I wouldn’t take this lightly. Mistake or not, she almost killed herself. Her healing process won’t be easy.”
“We know, doctor. And believe us, we’ll do everything to help her,” Emily states.
After some explanations about your medical treatment from now on, the doctor allows Spencer to see you. Although you’re still sedated and sleeping.
Spencer can’t help but think how peaceful you look, almost as if you were sleeping on any other day. But he knows better. He knows now. There hasn’t been peace in your life for months.
Looming, he takes in you. Your face is pale, and there are evident traces of dark circles under your eyes. But none of that matters. You’re breathing, and Spencer can’t be more grateful for that fact right now.
It has been months since he last touched you. Gently, he reaches his hand to your face, caressing your cheeks. He has missed you so much. Even if you aren’t aware of it, Spencer traces soft patterns on your skin, admiring you as the most delicate wonder in the world. To him, you are everything and more. No words could ever fully express how deeply you are ingrained in Spencer’s heart and life. You have spent time together, sharing glances, fears, and dreams. That connection was enough for him to fall for you. It gave him the courage to ask you out for the first time and the strength not to faint when you kissed him first.
You have never faltered in your relationship with Spencer. You never got a single doubt about how you felt for him. Since Spencer met you, he knew you would be his rock. As a friend first, then as lovers, ending up tying your life together as husband and wife.
He has been your rock, too. In desperate times when you have felt lost, drained, and confused, Spencer has always been there, happy to know you trust and rely on him.
So why did he not do the same when his mother’s health worsened? He didn't because, even for you, it would have been too much—not for lack of strength on your part, but unfairness. It wasn’t fair to you to carry the weight of his decisions about Diana.
It's a cruel joke that tells itself: you did carry it anyway.
Spencer leans to examine your breathing better and holds your hand. It's cold, but Spencer is confident he can provide some of the warmth you need.
“Baby, I’m here,” he whispers. “I’m not going anywhere; I promise I’ll never leave you again. I’m so sorry. Please, come back to me.”
You can’t reply, but the steady rise and fall of your chest reminds Spencer he has a chance to tell you everything he has to say and what you need to hear.
To seal his promise and plea, he leans a bit more and plants a lingering kiss on your forehead.
“I love you. So much. I’ll be right here when you wake up.”
-----
The sterile smell is the first thing you notice when you get into your senses. You recognize it. You’re in a hospital room. How did you get here? The last thing you remember is being on your couch. And the crying, the intrusive thoughts, the desperation to make them go away. You remember the whiskey bottle. And the pills. After that, it’s just a haze.
Now, you can hear the constant bip emanating from the machine controlling your vitals. You’re alive. Your heart is beating.
The next thing you notice is the warmth of a hand over yours, which contrasts with the cold in the room. It’s nice. It’s comforting. You recognize that touch. Spencer.
Slowly, you open your eyes, and they fix on the man looking at you—his mop of curls, his glassy eyes, his stubble. And everything comes at once. In no time, tears start to roll from your eyes.
“Hey, hey. Are you in pain?” Spencer softly asks when he notices that you are squeezing your eyes shut, trying to stop the tears.
“I’m sorry,” you mumble. “I’m so sorry.”
"No. No, no, no. Don't.” Spencer rushes to say, stroking your hand with his. He wants to hold you, to stop your pain, but how? He can’t even fathom the extent of your inner wounds.
"I - I lost her. It's my fault."
A sharp jab reaches Spencer’s heart at your words. ‘Her.’ You’re talking about your baby. But it's a grief he’s not allowed to feel at this moment. You are all that matters right now.
"No, it's not. Please, don't think it is."
How can he convince you none of this is your fault? Words are not enough, he knows, but he has to try.
"I couldn't keep her safe. It was my job to keep her safe,” you say, voice thick with emotion. “And look at me. So weak, look what I did.”
"It's alright. I promise it's going to be alright.” Not letting go of the hold of your hand, he uses the free one to wipe your tears. His own blurring his vision.
“I’m sorry,” you mumble. “I -” You try to think what to say, but your brain is still in a haze, and it's difficult to articulate words. The meds you’re on make you feel quickly tired and sleepy.
So drained and confused, you can’t even fully grasp the fact your husband is there, as a free man, with you. You try to keep your eyes open, but it's hard. Spencer notices.
“It's okay. Close your eyes, honey. You need to rest. I’ll stay right here.” After kissing your forehead, he keeps softly stroking your cheeks. The motion is so comforting that in no time, you surrender to slumber.
When you wake up again, Spencer is sleeping, curled uncomfortably in the chair next to you. The light seeping through the blinds tells you it must be daytime, probably morning, due to the golden reflection on Spencer’s hair.
Taking a deep breath, you try to assimilate the fact that he is really there. And you are, too. And everything unsaid is still uncharted territory.
“You’ll get your back hurt sleeping there,” you say, voice hoarse from not talking for hours. Spencer blinks his eyes open, and a smile is on his face when he sees you awake.
“It's not that bad,” he dismisses. You know he’s lying. “Do you need anything? Are you thirsty? Are you hungry?” he asks, shifting in the chair to a sitting position and shaking off the sleep.
“Water would be okay.” Even if you’re not dehydrated, thanks to the IV, your mouth feels dry. Spencer is on his feet to fill a cup with water and hand it to you.
After drinking a few sips, you shift uncomfortably in bed. It's been hours since you have been there - you don’t know how much, but your body feels it.
“How can I help?” Spencer asks, and you shake your head.
“It's okay. I just need to stretch my legs a bit.” Dangling your feet out of the bed, you sit on the edge, curling your toes. You’re dressed in a typical hospital gown. It feels itchy, but it's not your concern right now. Spencer follows your moves with his gaze in silence. He’s happy you can stretch and move, but he is worried about how to go now.
In your sitting position, you inspect your husband’s appearance. His disveleshed hair, the dark circles under his eyes, the stubble adorning his chin. Probably, he’s in the same clothes he had yesterday when JJ, Luke, and Garcia picked him up.
Some treacherous tears start rolling down. You are still an emotional mess. You bite your lower lip, trying to stop the crying, but it’s useless. Without a word, Spencer shorts the space between you both, enveloping you in a tight embrace. An embrace that took months to happen. An embrace you longed for so long. If only things would have been different.
“It’s okay. It will be okay,” Spencer muffles his words in your hair, kissing the top of your head. You can’t help but cry harder. “Let it out. I’m not going anywhere. I promise.”
It’s hard to think of not having this pain inside. You want to believe his promise, though. Burying your face in his chest, you allow yourself to cry openly. Surrendering the control you have been trying to keep to stay afloat.
“I missed you.” Your voice is barely audible, but Spencer can hear you.
“I missed you, too. So so much,” Spencer whispers, softly but surely. Spencer needs you to know he never stopped thinking about you and missing you.
You can’t tell if it lasts seconds or minutes, but feeling Spencer’s arms around you brings some truce to your inner emotional battle. Sadly, you can’t stay like that forever. Parting from him, you look at him deep in the eye. Spencer strokes your hair, trying to figure out what you are thinking.
"Are you not angry with me?" Your voice is barely there as if you’re afraid of his answer. Spencer frowns at you.
"No. Of course not. Why would I?”
"I didn't tell you. And - and when it was too late, I didn't tell you either."
Spencer cups your cheeks so you can look at him. "Hey, I know why you did it. I understand."
But it's not enough for you.
"Stop! Please, just stop!" you complain, shaking his hands off of you. Spencer steps back a bit to give you some space.
"What?"
"Stop being nice and understanding! Be mad at me! Yell at me! I lost our baby! I almost kill myself! You should be furious! You should leave me. I don't deserve to be forgiven. Just - just do something! Hate me!"
Your words break Spencer’s heart. How could you think you should be hated? None of this is a reason for him to hate you or blame you. It's the opposite. You need to see it. Spencer takes a step closer to pry your hands, covering your face as you start crying again.
"Do you really want that? To hate you for carrying our child? For having an accident when you were only trying to do the right thing? For trying to protect me from the pain? For holding the weight of grieving alone when it was me who should have been here by your side?"
You know what he’s doing. But you can’t let him. It's not his fault, either.
"You couldn't."
Spencer cups your face so you can look at him.
"And yet, it's unfair you had to bear everything alone. If I have to hate someone, it's me. I wasn't here when you needed me the most! What kind of husband am I, uh?“
You shake your head, grabbing his hands off of your cheeks and resting them on your lap. You don’t want him to take the blame.
“You were locked, Spencer. It was on me.”
“For my own bad decisions. It's unfair. Don’t tell me it is not unfair.”
Spencer’s voice cracks. The feeling of failure creeping inside of him. He couldn't protect you; he couldn't keep you safe.
You can’t form a reply to him. No, when another question is still plaguing your mind. A question with an assumed answer, heavy enough to push you into a spiral that almost ends with you six feet under.
“Is that psycho really having your baby?”
Spencer’s features harden. Emily told him about ‘Cat’s confession.’ For a moment, Spencer almost loses it, thinking about the possibility of it happening. But from what Lindsey admitted once she was in Rossi and Matt's custody, Cat is lying. The father's identity remains unknown, but Garcia is making progress, checking all men who interacted with Cat in the past months.
“She is pregnant. But it's not mine. What she told you, it never happened. Lindsey confirmed it.”
You let out a humorless laugh. “That bitch got me. She planted the seed, and I couldn't help it. What a good FBI agent I am,” you mock, averting your gaze.
One of Spencer’s hands leaves the grip on your lap and flies to your chin to look into your eyes. “Don’t say that. You saw what she wanted you to see, and it's not on you. Everyone could have tripped with that kind of unsettling information. She wants to punish every human being that has crossed her psycho self.”
“You by proxy because of me. I knew that, but I bit the bullet anyway.”
Pushing a loose strand of hair behind your ear, Spencer shakes his head. “It doesn't matter. What really matters now is it is over.”
A deep sigh leaves your lips. Maybe it's over. But how can you continue from here? It's like Spencer can hear your thoughts.
“We’ll figure it out. Now, it can be hard to see it, but I know we can figure it out.”
-----
Spencer doesn't leave your side in all the 36 hours you stay in the hospital. He is with you when the doctor comes to talk to you to explain the next steps in your physical recovery. He is right with you every time the nurses come to check on you. He is also there when Emily comes to see you before you can be discharged.
“How are you feeling?” Emily asks. To say you are thankful for Emily is just a tip of the truth.
“Relieved,” you say, looking at Spencer. “Em, I’m sorry for putting you in all this stress.” It's a meek apology, you think, but it's something. Prentiss huffs.
“You two made me age ten years in five months, you know? But I’m glad to have you both out of the woods.”
“Thank you, Emily. For everything.” This time, it’s Spencer who speaks. He reaches for your hand and gently squeezes it. God, it's so good having him here and feeling his touch.
“You are part of my team and, above all, my friends and family. And considering that, I need to talk to you guys about what comes next,” she announces. “I know what you are going to say, but I need you to trust me on this.”
You and Spencer raise an eyebrow but nod and wait for Emily to continue.
“You are going into mandatory leave from this moment. For a month, to begin with. But not only that, you both are instructed to go to therapy sessions.” Emily says, and you both want to protest, but she doesn't let you. “Please, don’t fight me on this. I know you guys, and you need to realize you both went through a lot in the past months. And you can’t do this alone.”
“We have each other,” you say, and Emily nods in agreement.
“And that's wonderful. But I also know you need to fight the guilt you both are feeling right now. For the sake of yourself and your relationship. You need to acknowledge, really acknowledge, none of this is your fault.”
Spencer can’t help but downcast his stare to the floor. You focus on the wall in front of you. Emily directs her gaze to you.
“It's not your fault not having Spencer out sooner. And it's not your fault what happened in the accident. And about what went on with Cat? You are a human being; you have the right to be vulnerable. But you also have to know you are not alone on this.”
Her words go to Spencer now. “You feel remorseful for doing what you did to help your mom for being away from your wife with all the turmoil happening. I’m sure you felt you needed to do more to protect her. But you must comprehend that there are things out of our control. And you have a new chance to make it right. Guys, you need each other, but you need to reconcile and reconnect to yourself. That's why I’m asking you to do this.”
Leave it to Emily Prentiss to say the right thing at the right moment. You and Spencer understand why she’s doing this. It's very expected, considering everything you both have been through.
You promise Emily that you’ll exactly do what she asked. Once she leaves the room, you will be ready to be discharged. As you start dressing, Spencer is in the nurse’s station, helping to fill the needed papers.
Anderson is waiting outside to drive you both home. You are very grateful, considering neither Spencer nor you have your car there, and your exhaustion is enough to prevent you from getting behind the wheel.
In the car ride, Spencer’s arm doesn't leave the grip around your shoulder, posing loving kisses on the top of your head from time to time. A reminder that he’s here with you and he is not going anywhere now.
But passing the apartment threshold is another hard test for both of you. It’s a place where Spencer hasn’t been in five months. It’s a place where you were two days ago and made a mistake in the heat of your own vulnerability. It’s something hard to come to terms with.
Hand in hand, you walk into the open living room. It's still a mess from the day Emily and Tara found you passed out on the couch. Fortunately, there are no traces of the whiskey bottle or the pills’ container.
Spencer’s eyes rack over the shelves and walls. There were no major changes in them. But then his eyes spot the closed door in the guest room, and his throat tightens. He knows what is in there; you told him at the hospital about how you were preparing the nursery. You pick up how his glance stares at the door.
“I haven't been able to get in there yet without breaking down,” you tell him, and Spencer’s eyes snap at you. The last thing he wants is to expose you to something that might make you upset now.
“We don’t have to.” Spencer is sincere, and you know he is, but you also know what has to be done and that he deserves to know all of it and be part of it. “We can spend the night in another place, I can talk to-” you squeeze his hand and shake your head to stop him talking.
“Spence. No. We need to. I need to.”
Spencer searches for any sign of aversion or doubt, but he finds none. You’re right. It has to be done. Slowly but surely, you both open the door and take a step forward into the room. It’s still decorated with bright walls and furniture all over: shelves, a dresser, a crib, a swing chair. You can feel the lump forming in your throat, as you can feel Spencer’s hand shaking on yours. He’s trying to keep composure for your sake, but it’s proving to be hard. You turn to see him, your own eyes glassed for the tears that push to get out. With a hand on his cheek, he leans on your touch, breathing shakily.
With no words needed, you both hold each other as you cry. It’s the first moment in which you feel you can grieve together. Not only the life that was lost, but also the months being apart, the sorrow for the lies told, the truths untold, and the pain of not having each other.
When the tears subside, you look each other in understanding. It’s going to be hard, but you’ll try harder.
That night, you talk until the sun is almost rising, wrapped in a blanket and the comfort of each other's arms on the couch. You tell him everything, show him the ultrasounds and spill your guts about your encounter with Cat Adams. For his part, Spencer recounts his days locked in Milburn, and the things he did and almost did. You dissect each part of the past months, and you have never been more relieved than you are right now. Spencer can tell, because he feels the same.
“What are you thinking about?” Spencer asks after you go silent for a moment longer.
“I - I’m just -” You sigh, trying to collect your thoughts. Shifting to look up at Spencer, you tighten the grip on his shirt. “After everything, how will we make this work again?”
“You mean ‘us’?”
“Yeah. Us. Our life. Yours and mine, together and individually. Spencer, we are so broken right now. And what about the guilt? I can’t stop thinking about what Emily told us, and she is right, but I can’t just shake off this feeling.”
“Neither do I,” Spencer admits. “That's why we need to work together on this. I mean, there will be days I’ll be in my lows; others, you’ll be in yours. I guess the difference is in not carrying the weight alone.”
You ponder his words. You know life won’t be the same as you had before. It would be naive to think so. But life is giving you a second chance to make it count. To not take for granted anything. In your husband’s arms, the love of your life, you can only think of how everything could have been worse than it got. It’s not about fool’s comfort, it’s about the acknowledgement of having a future to write—a different one.
“Together,” you add. Spencer nods, caressing your chin. It feels right—like it's supposed to feel when you are safe.
“I love you,” you whisper, as if it's the most secret confession you have ever made. Spencer’s face lights up, looking at you with adoration.
“And I love you. Always. Past, present and future.”
For you that is enough. Rough patches ahead are for sure, but tonight you’re not alone. Tonight you’ll indulge yourself in the safety of your satellite call.
-----
“This is one’s for the lonely child
Broken-hearted, running wild
This was written for the ones to blame
One who believes they are the cause of chaos in everything
You may find yourself in the dead of night
Lost somewhere out there in the great big beautiful sky
This is so you’ll know the sound
Of someone who loves you
From the ground
Tonight you’re not alone at all
This is me sending out my satellite call.”

ok so I saw that alicent is pregnant… and she'll give birth to Maelor or take moon tea and abort the baby…pls tell me that it’s all a bad dream :(
*Spoilers Ahead* Oh, dear anon, I wish I could tell you it’s all a bad dream 💚
I saw the leaks as soon as they came out and for days I’ve been discussing them with friends and mutuals. If it gives you any consolation, we know only that Alicent will feel her stomach in episode 4, ask the maester to prepare 🌙 ☕️ , and then drink it secretly. I’ve read all kinds of interpretations for this, but please be reminded that this is all we’ve got in terms of the leaks; the rest is speculation. Three scenarios are floating around:
a) Alicent takes the moon tea as a form of birth control. This implies that it’s not the first time she’s taken it, and it’s her regular habit to take some after she’s had sex with Criston. I think the way the scene is set up and delivered in episode 4 will determine whether Alicent has asked for moon tea before (What is her reaction? Does the maester seem to have prepared this before for her? Does he speak as if she’s asked him to make moon tea for the first time?).
b) Alicent takes moon tea as a form of abortion. The way “Alicent feeling her stomach” is interpreted is that her pregnancy is advanced (although idk how that can make sense given that Alicent and Criston have been having sex for a few weeks?) or that she fears she might be pregnant because she has failed to take moon tea this whole time and she might be experiencing the early symptoms of pregnancy like nausea, fatigue etc (which would make her pregnancy around 2-4 weeks, but certainly not at a stage when she can feel anything in terms of movement. Perhaps she’s touching her stomach out of concern and fear for what she has to do.)
c) Alicent takes the moon tea, but she stays pregnant nonetheless, and this pregnancy results in the birth of Maelor. The speculation gets wonky after that. I’ve read all kinds of things, that Alicent tries to kill herself by the lake as we see in the trailer (I’d hate that!) and even that she marries Larys to conceal the bastardy (since Criston’s vows as a white cloak are for life and they can’t get married, and if he’s found out to be the father he’ll be executed).
My overall reactions:
I would be fine with Alicent taking the moon tea as a form of birth control or abortion if the show does not melodramatize this moment or exploit it to give Alicent further reasons to resent herself and additional “sins” to atone for the whole season. Please, writers, let her move beyond that characterization and give us further insight into her psyche and a well-rounded portrayal of her character.
In case her pregnancy is advanced, taking the moon tea can be extremely dangerous (we know this because it almost killed Lysa) so I wouldn’t want to see this pain inflicted on her. We also know that there are religious qualms for those who adhere to the faith of the seven regarding moon tea (Margaery was convicted because Pycelle confessed he brewed her moon tea six times) so I wouldn’t want my girl to go on hating herself for something like that.
Most importantly, giving Alicent a bastard child and making Maelor a bastard would be character assassination for me. I’ve read that the writers might go down this lane for the Rhaenicent parallels and to further highlight the tragedy and her “hypocrisy” but it just doesn’t make sense to me. It also highly affects both Alicent’s and Maelor’s arcs in S3. Therefore, I am hesitant to believe that the writers would so deviate from canon to show us Alicent pregnant with baby Maelor. Does this mean they can’t if they want to? No, it doesn’t, but the chance, at least to me, is very slim.
I hope I’ve alleviated your fears somehow! Let us see what actually happens.

PROPAGANDA
NATASHA ROSTOVA (WAR AND PEACE) (CW: Pregnancy)
1.) Natasha is one of the MCs of the novel and for the majority of it she stays an incredibly complex, flawed and fleshed out character but then THE EPILOGUE COMES. In the epilogue she marries Pierre Bezukhov (who I talked about in my previous propaganda) and essentially loses her personality. The point of her existence now is to serve Pierre and be his 24/7 baby machine. The narrative puts emphasis on how important singing is for her (Natasha expresses herself through it) but after she gets married she stops singing (the other moment she stops singing is after her failed elopement with Anatole Kuragin, when she's depressed and basically at her lowest point) because she doesn't need it anymore since she has a husband UwU.
Natasha is described as a perfect and understanding wife for Pierre and yet she's allowed only to soak in his views and thoughts without adding anything from herself. ("Now that he was telling it all to Natásha he experienced that pleasure which a man has when women listen to him—not clever women who when listening either try to remember what they hear to enrich their minds and when opportunity offers to retell it, or who wish to adopt it to some thought of their own and promptly contribute their own clever comments prepared in their little mental workshop—but the pleasure given by real women gifted with a capacity to select and absorb the very best a man shows of himself." (c) Book 15, Ch. 17).
When Natasha's cousin Sonya tries to stop her from eloping with Anatole, Natasha screams that she's now his slave and will do anything he wants and although she and Anatole never meet again after the elopement fails, she never escapes the fate of becoming a slave to her man.
To be honest I dislike Natasha (there's no excuse for how she and her family treated her cousin Sonya) but the way she portrayed in the epilogue infuriates me. Her marriage to Pierre cancels out her character arc and personal growth she had before it completely.
2.) After 2k pages detailing her unique way of thinking, lust for life, hyperactivity and love of freedom Natasha is married and therefore summarily shunted off to being jealous and incapable of understanding her husband's higher purpose, no longer singing and having no other preoccupation in life but the color of her children's pov
3.) oh my god. so shes this young girl (literally shes like. 13 to 17 throughout the main story). as natasha makes her way into society, she gets more and more hated by tolstoy. (because tolstoy hates society & women). if im remembering correctly the first time she flirts with a man & uses a fan she gets scolded. all of her love interests are considerably older than her. when natasha is 17, she gets engaged to andrei (who at this point would be around 27). he goes off to war! because he loves war. while hes away, anatole (who is vaguely around andreis age) seduces natasha. he knows she's engaged & impressionable and does it anyways. anatole plans to kidnap & elope with natasha, but the plan gets found out. natasha learns anatole is already married and tries to kill herself via arsenic. she gets better. pierre (27) who has known natasha since she was 13 & is close with her family and is also andreis friend, visits natasha. he comforts her and she's like "no what i've done is unforgivable and deplorable". pierre then kind of proposes to her ("if i were free"). natasha stops singing for a while. this is significant because singing is very important to her. well fast forward his wife dies. then theres the epilogue where pierre and natasha get married. natasha is miserable and is basically a baby pumping machine and she also stops singing again.
GWEN (BBC MERLIN) (CW: Mind Control, Adultery)
1.) She was one the main 4 characters in the show and basically the leading lady as the show went on and YET. She was literally treated like an object to make her pain a point of conflict and angst for the male characters and then SHE WAS BARELY EVEN THERE. FOR THE SEASON FINALE. THE LEADING WOMAN. so that the writers could focus on their male characters more. Also in season 4 the writers forgot that they had to make a Guinevere/Lancelot affair happen (to follow the Arthurian canon that they ~totally~ were following before. this is sarcasm btw). But at that point Gwen as a character was not in a place where she would do that. So instead of writing something actually good they decided to just have Gwen end up with an Enchanted Bracelet That Makes You Cheat On People. I’m not joking. So it wasn’t even her choice to have an affair and they never explore the implications of this. And it’s never even revealed to the characters that she didn’t choose this. She’s just. Never vindicated. Evil and terrible.
2.) At the beginning of the series there was on episode when Gwen was like “women should be allowed to fight” (in a battle that was happening). A big part of her character at the beginning was also knowing armor and weaponry bc she was the blacksmith’s daughter. But then in the series finale they had her say something along the lines for “I’m not meant to fight” just so she could be gone so that the writers could just write about the two male leads
3.) Okay also in the last season they didn’t know what to do with Gwen’s character so for almost half the season they made a plot line where she was mind controlled (again :)))) after being kidnapped and tortured. And like. Again instead of focusing on her and the effects it had on her they made the whole thing an excuse to get Male Lead # 1 and # 2 angsty about it. They had to like. Knock her out and throw her into a lake (magic baptism???) to reverse mind control and then they literally never her reaction to the whole situation ever. Literally objectified for the plot.

Hey, hope your doing okay I was wondering if you could write about Celica not being able to eat during her pregnancy again? I’m sorry but I just live for worried castin being ready to kill everyone that ever told his wife to eat poison
Hello, Anon! I'm okay. Thanks for checking up on me. My writing progress has been slowed down lately. My muse... where has she gone!? 😭
Lol, but seriously, let's take a crack at this and expand more on one of Celica and Castin's most challenging trials during the pregnancy arc - her lack of tastebuds and, consequently, her appetite due to the side effects of poison withdrawal.
-
Castin says nothing. To be precise, he doesn't know what to say exactly.
His wife, his darling beloved Celica, is playing a new game he dislikes from the get-go. This causes Rhett to rear back in surprise when he admits it during their hunting trip for the King, and literally everyone in Intacia has heard of how their strongest warrior is besotted with his Imperial wife.
So what change? Castin Hammer likes - no, loves - everything about Baroness Anesidora. He loves how her golden hair shimmers with the early light of dawn as she turns around to greet him good morning. He loves the quiet hums of her voice whenever she's lost in a good book. He loves her no-nonsense tolerance for bullshit, cutting straight to the meat of the matter even in the face of hardships. He loves how pliant and soft her body is to his touches, as if she's subconsciously known that she will always be safe with him.
Right now, though? Castin Hammer dislikes - no, hates - how obtuse Celica is deliberately playing just so she could pacify him.
Enough is enough.
"Celica." Castin begins sharply, and he hates how his wife grimaces at his tone, but he has to press on. He has to make her see reason. "You can't continue drinking that... that special tea of yours after our babies are born. I didn't say anything when you insisted it was tradition, even when it slowly killed you. Guess what? It's still killing you even when you're not taking it now."
The Baroness juts her chin up in defiance. There's a small dining table worth of space between them here in their bedroom. She felt too exhausted today to leave her personal sanctuary, so it's been transformed into a makeshift office and dining hall. "I'm fine."
Enough is enough.
Castin abruptly pushes his chair backward. He swipes his untouched bowl of chicken shorba, rounds the dining table, and places it gently, as if it were a newly hatched chick, in front of Celica. "Then finish it, baby." His voice is equally soft, but there's a hint of coldness behind it. This is the most furious he has been for his wife. He knows it. Celica knows it.
Celica's lips pressed into tight, thin lines. The broth smells divine. The shredded chicken meat looks soft to chew. It's the perfect dish for a pregnant woman. She picks up the spoon and scoops the broth to her lips...
And it tasted absolutely nothing. Her stomach, growing with hunger, now cries in dissatisfaction. It hurts, and she can only imagine -
"You can't, can't you?" Castin answers for both of them. Some of his anger (never at his wife. Never anger. Only sorrow) abates. Sighing, he pulls his chair nearby to sit beside Celica instead of across to her. "You know... if I'm not 5 seconds away from tearing my hair out in a panic, this would be hilarious. I've seen you down a hill of raw, marinated crabs all on your own like a competitive eater, baby. Now though? Now you can barely finish a soup because of your missing tastebuds!"
"Tastebuds or no. I will not jeopardise the health of our babies. I'll force myself to finish this." Celica resolutely says, eyes hard. She continues eating slowly. Ignoring how distressed her husband is.
"Like how Zeke forces you to eat fuck all back then?"
"Castin, we've been over this - "
"You're right, we did. We agreed to help you look for a therapist once the children are a bit older. But we didn't talk about your poison intake. So, let's start now. Let's take that cat out of the bag."
"Castin..."
"No, no. Food and conversation. You like those, right?" Castin stonewall his wife and snatches back the bowl of food so he can feed his wife. He grins painfully wide when Celica glares at him and opens her mouth. Castin waits until the bowl is almost empty to ask, "So who do I gotta beat up for making you think that grape flavour arsenic is appropriate for kids?"
"It was Belladonna. Not arsenic." Celica sneered, and for that, she found herself a mouth stuffed with soup.
Castin rolls his eyes despite the fact that everything in him is raging on behalf of his wife. He'd learned a thing or two about playing an actor from Celica over the years. "Of course, you'd go for the fancy flowers. Also, don't get sidetracked. Who, Celica?"
"Is this an interrogation?"
"Nah. Take it as your obsessed and highly protective husband wanting to unravel everything about you."
"Really? That's your excuse?"
"What can I say, babe? You made me into a lovesick puppy that may or may not need the muzzle after this. So?"
It's Celica's turn to sigh. "My first governess - Madam Bianca - took it up with Ezekiel. It was a day after my tenth birthday, and by customs, I was only enough to practice mithridatism. The rest is history."
"What!? No, not history! Babe, that's insane! And after your birthday, too!?"
"It is what it is, Castin - urk! Will... you... stop it!?" Celica chews and swallows furiously. She bats away Castin's hand before he can shove the last bit of the food into her mouth.
"You being all nonchalant like this freaks me out, you know? Are you finally full?"
Celica immediately rubs her tummy. The pregnancy swell is starting to show. "Yes, darling. I'm genuinely satiated for now. Please, believe me."
"Awesome!" Castin stands up once more and steals a startled kiss from his wife. Mm, chicken shorba with a faint taste of cherry; more things to love about Celica. "You want some ice-cream? Cake? Ice-cream cake? Lemme get you some, actually. You just sit tight and look pretty."
"...Why are you grabbing your sword? Castin? You're just going to the kitchen!"
"You'd never know if a rebel is gonna ambush me from the bathroom, Celly! Or if a certain head butler is in the hallway. It'll be nice to have a quick chat; man-to-man. Husband to his abusive father-in-law."
"CASTIN, NO!"

i know you hate sjm already but just wait until you read the nesta book and get to the arc where rhysand knows that feyre’s pregnancy will kill her because her fae body isn’t designed to give birth to a baby with wings but he doesn’t tell her and he makes everyone else keep it a secret from her too and there’s a whole scene explaining that feyre can’t shapeshift into her illyrian form, which would allow her to give birth safely, because they don’t know whether that’ll affect the baby (because apparently the risk of repercussions to a fetus is worse than 100% fatality to the mother), and that there’s no safe way to surgically remove the baby from her body (because for some reason magic exists in this world but not C-sections). and finally the only reason feyre finds out that she’s about to die giving birth next month is because nesta gets mad at rhysand and tells feyre out of spite. and everyone acts like she’s the villain for it. like that was insanely fucked up we all moved on too fast from it
Um.........
What the fuck!?!?
Does she die?

7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 on my pinned list of Degrassi asks - only if you want to, of course!
Oh, thank you! I'll have to send you more asks in a bit. <3
Characters I'm most similar to:
1.) Ellie Nash
2.) Grace Cardinal
3.) Terri MacGregor
Three things I would change:
1.) The mishandling of practically every black and POC character. It's no secret that almost all of them were either sidelined or barely given a fraction of the focus the white characters were given. Ex: Liberty's pregnancy was almost all about JT, Jimmy's reaction to the shooting and his paralysis is minor compared to the focus on Spinner and his redemption arc, Chantay doing precious little for eight seasons straight, Tiny exists only as a love interest and Zig's sidekick in spite of his rich background involving addict parents, Vince, and previous gang ties, Shay's mostly only prominent during a story line specifically about racism compared to Frankie and Lola.
2.) Inadvertently making multiple main characters rapists because the writers were uneducated about what healthy consent looks like (Sav/Anya in season 9, Holly J/Declan in season 10, Drew/Katie in season 12)
3.) Queerbaiting the Zoe/Grace romance in Next Class to prove a point about stereotypes by punishing the one character not stereotyping or making assumptions about Grace. Straight up, they didn't need to have sex. That was hurtful and way too far. All this specifically told from Zoe's perspective, meaning the show deliberately kept Grace's feelings and motivations a mystery.
Characters I once loved but then disliked:
1.) Declan Coyne (Season 10 originally turned me off, but rewatching season 9 only reinforced that he was always an entitled, self involved person with a flimsy grasp on respecting the word "no")
2.) Owen Milligan (Love is a stretch, but I easily accepted him as a boyfriend to Anya and protective brother to Tristan presumably because I thought Daniel Kelly was hot with longer hair. I know myself, and 18 year old me had no shame. Owen Milligan had zero redeeming qualities.)
3.) Johnny DiMarco (Not full on dislike, but I've lost a lot of respect for the character and feel he spent a lot of time being a malicious asshole and involving himself with a much younger girl well past the age of knowing better. Just because he acknowledged JT four seasons after his death doesn't make him a good person)
Characters I once disliked but now like:
1.) Mia Jones (She wasn't that bad. She just came onto the show during an awkward era, and I was then a big fan of JT/Liberty and Peter/Darcy. While the modeling arc wasn't great and Degrassi could have done a better job showing her struggles as a teen mom, she was well intentioned and people liked her because she was nice. It's that simple, but I had a visceral hatred of her LOL)
2.) Campbell Saunders (It wasn't him. It was the overwhelming fan response. Now that it's been a decade since his character was killed off, I can admit he was a good character. Just not a personal favorite)
3.) Drew Torres (I'm aware there's a lot wrong with him and that he deserves an award for the consecutive amount of bad decisions he made, but there's something endearing about the character. I'm a big fan of his growth, particularly in season 13 and during the first half of season 14. He got screwed so that the baby could be Eli's, and I hated it)

I’m going to slightly disagree with anon about the Fire fandom being obsessed with biological children but I see where they are coming from. I do agree with people wishing Brett was pregnant before leaving so “they could finally be a family” was weird. That would’ve been so strange in my opinion. They just adopted Julia. She’s like 8 months old. They don’t need another baby right now. I also don’t like the idea that only a biological baby will complete Brettseys family. Feels icky, especially knowing that Brett herself is adopted. It gives the vibe that an adopted child can never be as loved as a biological child.
But, I don’t think it’s right to say we prefer biological children over adopted. With Stellaride, yes we want them to have a baby. But keep in mind that of the 4(?) main characters that have gotten pregnant, 3 were miscarriages across all of One Chicago. Natalie was the only one who had a successful pregnancy and she was pregnant before the show started. I just want one main couple in One Chicago to have a successful pregnancy because their track record is awful right now. If One Chicago had a better track record, I wouldn’t care if Stellaride adopted or if they had a biological baby. I’d be fine with either because they’d be terrific parents either way. I could personally see them fostering an older troubled teenager who they both can relate to.
Also, I think it’s just a very interesting storyline for Stella to be pregnant and then come back to work. Because that happens in real life. Women in the fire industry, even a firefighter, get pregnant, give birth, and still come back to work. It would be very interesting to see Stella being temporarily stepping down as Lieutenant, how she and Severide deal with the pregnancy, and how Stella deals with the aftermath of becoming a firefighter again after having given birth. I think it would be an interesting arc for Stellaride.
I don't interact much with fandom anymore so I'm not sure what was going on before the ep aired but the narrative that a family is only "complete" with a biological child or that an adoption should be last resort is disgusting. Yes, there are many problems with adoption as it's conducted in most countries but that's also due this whole narrative in the first place. And as you said, Brett was adopted. Julia is her child. Matt agreed to that when he asked her to marry him. That should've been the end of the story. It's a good send off. Just take the win and leave it at that. We all know how One Chicago exits can be controversial and badly executed so this one (and again I'm not a fan of them so this isn't biased in any way) is a great one.
As you pointed out and I've said before, I don't trust One Chicago writers with pregnancies storylines. I'll admit that I'm scared if that's the direction they'll go with Stellaride. Would I love to see them have a family? Yes. Would I love to see them tackle a woman in a male dominant career be a mother and still kill at her job after birth? Absolutely!!
Personally, I don't think Stella is there? With Gallo leaving she's building her team again. I think I'm also a bit against it right now because of how much drama plots they've given them lately with both Miranda's and Taylor's absences. I hate both (which is the same) reasons they've given. It's super out of character for either Stella or Kelly to go radio silent on the other. It's even more out of character for Stella to be this distrustful of Kelly after EVERYTHING they've been through, after how much Stella suffered from her last relationship. It doesn't add up. But since that was their way to explain the actors time off, it'd be super quick to throw a baby in the mix. A couple who didn't know whether the other would return home wouldn't in their right mind decide to have a baby. I'd prefer for them to build their trust and relationship back up before getting to that.
But after that, I'd love to see them form a family in any shape or form. I think it's important to show a female firefighter tackle all of that as you pointed out, specially as she's the only one in the show. We had Dawson and she stepped down as a paramedic right before the miscarriage if I'm not mistaken.
In my opinion, I believe Kelly would be far more ready to have a family and a baby than Stella. The man almost had one with his gay best friend like he wants it, it's clear and he's meant to be a dad and heal and break all the generational traumas his dad passed on to him.

Who's gonna whine about the pregnancy arc yet again? That's right, it's meee!
Spoilers, as always
We're going in bullet points cuz with every rewatch I hate the pregnancy subplot more and more, buckle the fuck up:
It helps vilify Cissy for not liking Arthur and frame his later rejection of her as a kind of karma. She should be allowed to just ... not be into a guy, and it shouldn't be a sin for which she's essentially punished by the narrative! It really feels like the show's out here saying "lol she thought she was too good for a nice guy who liked her, now she's pregnant and needs him for convenience and he gets to dump HER stuck up ass!" Not cool, show, not cool!
It's got some uncomfortable race dynamics, at least for me as a Black American. That it's her brown lover who's the only one who has sex with her (one time, at that) AND gets her pregnant? Maybe this isn't a problem for Maori men in New Zealand, but where I live, Black American and Latino men's imagined hypersexuality (down to stereotypes about fertility and even dick sizes) are a racist cultural myth that helps fuel their dehumanization. In keeping with the 'white womanly purity' bullshit, it helps set up this image of the brown male predator who deflowers and impregnates chaste white women. I also don't like that it now makes Manaaki guilty of the same sin as his own shitty father, even if by accident! God I hate it.
The way Awa suddenly gets weirdly male-centric about it. Yes, it was Awa who suggested an abortion, but that was before Cissy told her the baby was Manaaki's. After that you'll notice it's all "My brother's son has a new father" or (after Cissy admits to being desperate enough to CONSIDER ATTEMPTING SUICIDE) "And kill my brother's son?" What the fuck! If there's any woman in this show who hasn't centered men, it's Awa, what's up with this? Yeah I get that a lot of women 'make exceptions' for the men closest to them and Manaaki is clearly Awa's exception, but this feels like a really weird extension of that and it rubs me the wrong way. It's giving enmeshed boy-mom behavior?
(How the fuck do you even figure the baby's gonna be a boy, Awa?! The fact that it turns out to be a boy later is by authorial fiat, it's not like you have foresight or something!)
Anyway! That's what I don't like about the pregnancy subplot. God I hope I can actually get people in this fandom to, like, debate me and point shit out to me that I'm getting wrong or smth.

i’m seeing such takes about the baby lmao. smiling happy shauna with her living baby was in the dream world—the same eerie dream world that offered jackie warm cocoa and the acceptance of her best friend, that ghost laura lee/the Wilderness made sure lottie left. we don’t know a lot about the dream world, but we know it offers warmth, nourishment, and simplicity. cloth mother, if you will. (there’s a connection between the dream world + accepting nourishment + death that someone pointed out already, but i’m pivoting away from there right now.)
but like, we never see shauna with a living baby in the real world, trying to feed him in the freezing woods, knowing she cannibalized her best friend’s corpse for the chance that he would live. we also haven’t seen her recovering from the first birth—she could very well still get postpartum depression. in-between scenes of the dream world and the birth, however, we do see shauna as a parent to a living child; she’s resentful, she’s full of guilt all the time, she loves callie but never wanted to be a mother. it comes down to that.
shauna is an 18 year old who just gave birth to a dead baby in the most traumatic circumstances. she never really processed the fact that she’s giving birth to an entire human child. there’s also some fucky supernatural shit afoot. i think it’s perfectly aligned with what we know about shauna—and like, birth hormones—for shauna to be devastated when taissa hands her a dead baby. she didn’t want him, but he’s dead and she almost died, and she feels like not wanting this baby literally killed him. she would have likely had a real abortion back home. this is literally traumatic stress.
i feel like i’m repeating myself, but i keep seeing posts that deride yellowjackets for having shauna express any love for that baby as if the writers are promoting tradcath motherhood, when the show literally shows the psychological ramifications of forced birth. i do wish there was slightly more body horror (side note: if you’re craving a body horror take on pregnancy, i highly recommend the new dead ringers remake) but tl;dr yellowjackets is definitely not writing a story where shauna meeting her baby would have inspired a newfound love of motherhood, stopping her resentment or any other negative emotions. the supernatural elements + the adult shauna scenes work in tandem to create a pretty nuanced depiction of birth, motherhood, and all the complexities therein.
(i’m also hesitant to equate feelings about fiction to feelings about real life situations, but i do think it’s uhhhh. a bit callous? to go “yayyy no more pregnancy arc i hate babies! shauna should be more relieved smh” like we recognize how traumatized these girlies are but won’t extend that to shauna and childbirth? hmm)

For some reason I had a sick curiousity to binge/rewatch SLOTAT. I know it's bad. as is the acting, but I was still curious since it's been years since I've seen the show, and I really just wanted to get to that epic "God killed my dad because I had great sex" story arc. Amazing. Anyways...
When watching, I had this feeling from what fans have said that Ricky would develop into this amazing character/boyfriend/father that Amy should be so grateful to have, and Amy was so selfish unbearable shrew.
Now season 2 Amy sucks. Season 1 Amy was nice albiet bratty at times, but she was a pregnant 15 year old so I was willing to give her some slack. But season 2 Amy really was unbearable, and selfish as hell. I will agree I hated her then.
Come season 3 there's a shift, and I think there was this really nice progression with her. When she went to New York she really matured a lot. She wasn't dangling custody issues in front of Ricky anymore, and now trusting him more, she reached out to Adrian. Adrian whom slept with Ben to get back at her and Ricky when she found out she was pregnant with Ben's baby, because Amy's done the whole teenage pregnancy thing, and gets it. I was usually Team Adrian but I shifted when Adrian kept constanty being catty to her despite Amy extending a very undeserved olive branch.
For about a season and a half Amy was very likeable, and mature, and the character progression dropped again come season 4B-5. Mainly her reaction to Anne being a lesbian. That was bad. She was even annoying me with Ricky sometimes.
But come season 5... I was confused on how people were deeming Ricky this great guy who deserved better. When the biggest crime Amy committed prior to the finale was dare to maybe want to go to school in New York.
Ricky was an ass in season 5. Wanting to/at least thinking of cheating on Amy especially with Clementine, talking down to her, and always opening her mail, etc. He was always so... Aggressive?
I think they were trying to tell it from a perspective where he just wanted her to say waht she wanted because Amy was very meek about her wants in season 5, but they did a terrible job at showing it. Cause when she did say maybe, yeah she wanted to go... He demanded the wedding ring back, etc.
Amy could be annoying and bratty, but she wasn't this evil shrew fans and the show tried to push her as, and Ricky certainly wasn't the saint fans and the show tried to push him to be.
I he to wonder if Brenda Hampton hated Shailene the last coupe of seasons, because the way they wrote her, and had others speak about her is...Gross.

I have high hopes that y/n didn’t do that. Personally, I don’t think she would spite him even after all he’s put her through, unless it concerns her health. Even then I still have doubts, she’s very selfless. Then there’s the dialogue between his two best friends. I do recall you saying that they’re soulmates but everything’s is wrong timing for them a while back, so I’m kinda glad she asked for a divorce. In my opinion their relationship was toxic even after the whole Sera ordeal was over, it just seemed like the only thing that could “patch them up” so to say, for y/n and gojo was that baby. And moving her into the mansion he was planning on moving in with sera? My guy…he clearly needs more time to change.
Anonymous said
I can't see y/n giving up that child. She'd risk the labor at the cost of her life. She loves the baby, and no matter how much Gojo hurt her, she'd reason that the child is innocent.
Shoko's behavior... her dad's... I think she's going to have the kid still, but she's too scared to let Gojo be a part of it because she can't trust him with her and the child (just like she said.) I think the "abortion" might have been a ploy to get him to agree to a divorce and/or keep him in the dark about the child. WHICH, I read it closely but I'm hella dyslexic so I think I saw that he never agreed to one or signed any papers right? They're still married? And he hasn't been going out so there's no way he got "served"?
Anonymous said
okay what was shoko tryna say tho?? “it’s not what it seems”????🤨 I’m kinda doubtful reader actually had the abortion.. my heart hurts so much for satoru even though he’s a dick. mans really bought us the mansion he imagined living in with sera… ughhhh tojixreader arc when

Honestly I think y/n kept the baby. She probably lied to get Gojo to leave her alone, she’s leaving so she can continue the rest of her pregnancy term in peace so she can give birth safely. I just can’t see y/n killing her baby bc of its father’s mistake, u all saw how she cherishes the baby. I feel so bad for gojo tho, he has lost his second family, his reputation is ruined and he believes his baby is dead. U really ripped my heart out of my chest and stomped on it huh?😭 crying, throwing up, sliding down my the wall dramatically, banging my head on the wall, ripping my hair out, screaming, punching air, and coughing. If u hate us just say that🧍‍♀️

YOU SAID WE COULD HANDLE IT, I COULD NOT HANDLE IT omfg I didn't see that coming. Whether she decided to stay with him or not, I really didn't think she would have an abortion (unless🤔). But holy shit, I feel so much pain for him. I guess sometimes the timing and circumstances just aren't right. Anyways I'm gonna cry myself to sleep now- 😭✌️

why do i feel like she's keeping the baby but she just doesnt wanna tell mr gojo the dumbass bitch? 😈😈 i think this chapter hurts a whole of a lot but having to be here since wastelands made me numb as fuck, other than that, another amazing chapter saint 💗 ily, *kiss kiss*

This chapter hurt a LOT but I think they divorcing is for the best like when you think about it their marriage was so stained with Gojos mistakes and there was no way y/n would ever trust him completely.I know many people think Gojo deserves all this pain and he does but I also think he deserves to get somehow a “happy” ending , I hope he gets therapist and learns to love himself and not to be so codependent of others. He has a lot of work to do and for y/n ( I have the theory she didn’t get an abortion pretty sure she’s moving and raising the child by herself and if she did get one good for her too bc she should always prioritize herself) I hope she finds someone who loves her unconditionally and gives her what she deserves ( if that man is toji or not it really doesn’t matter to me) and I also hope she heals from all the pain Gojo put her thru , she deserves nothing but happiness . And just a final note! The way you write angst is AMAZING!!!

I wonder if mc rlly went thru with the abortion? if that makes sense, I just feel like it’s very out of character for them. I’m excited to see ch20 !! I love ur writing style it’s so heartbreaking yet beautiful

Saint… wtf was this? This was so sad omg😢, Satoru’s really going through the shit, but so is Y/N. Ahhh and the little munchkin too🥺?? This was a ton to take in at one time omg. I’m holding out a small amount of hope that the baby isn’t really gone and they are just keeping them away from Gojo, but ik it’s a long shot. I really hope both him and Y/N get a chance to heal from all this, but once again, Gojo really did this to himself (and Y/N) he didn’t have to marry her and treat her like that, but he did and I don’t think he’ll be able to move on with his life and start his healing process until he acknowledges it and stops trying to find an excuse for it. As for Sera… well, I don’t think anybody just deserves to be treated as badly as that, she better understand that’s what she gets for messing around with a married man. She should’ve known better and then treating Y/N like shit… when she was nothing but kind and understanding… yeah I don’t wanna she deserves all of what’s going on considering her situation, but at the same time it’s a lesson learned (Especially with the whole Naoya thing, cause 😬 that was just embarrassing). Anyway, I hope Y/N has a chance to heal and recover from both her angina and her mess of a marriage. Question: did Y/N get the surgery to get rid of her angina? Or is she still waiting? Where is Y/N gonna travel to? And how did Toji react to everything that’s going on? But all in all, this was an amazing chapter Saint, and I really appreciate you doing this on your time when you feel like it. It makes it even more special that you share your talents with us ❤️. Get plenty of rest and drink water ❤️❤️❤️

Pls why do I have a feeling this miraculous fanfiction baby of 5 months somehow lived ??? (Idk how incubation works !!!!!!!!) but like she's leaving the country ,,,, and shoko's little "trust me" just leaves me thinking . . .
I'm like gaslighting myself into thinking that the baby somehow lived idk why I got so attached to this fanfiction fetus

i will believe there was no abortion, that’s why y/n is going away, and they just wanted to make satoru suffer. yes.
AH BUT FR THIS WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CHAPTER I CANT STOP CRYING
i felt it all the way to the core. you get to understand gojo’s pain. but i still believe y/n decision were wise and we do not have the reasoning behind them since we just got gojo’s pov.
if he actually proceeded with his actions it would all be in vain, for he would just be escaping the consequences of his actions
AGGGHH im such a sucker for you and your writing
Tumblr media
these are all rly good theories you guys !! they’re very interesting to read but i can’t confirm anything rn </3 i’m glad to know that the angst delivered tho 🥺 tysm

Honestly, forget an episode, that time skip (less than a week!) could be an entire mini-series as between Phoebe, Leo, and Cole escaping the Underworld; only being able to save one sister; the immediate aftermath of having to cover it up; Piper and Phoebe trying everyway possible to bring Prue back, etc. Additionally, Cole being allowed in the Manor, Victor being informed, Darryl running interference, etc. The relationship dynamics alone would be fascinating.
That said, I don't think that they'd have been able to pull off an episode in the direct aftermath. Between the Underworld escape and then the coverup, I just feel like the pacing wouldn't have worked and it'd be a messy episode. Plus, they would have really had to have Shannon there for at least a little while as a body, especially to really get to Piper, Phoebe, and Leo's immediate reactions. It's something that I love in theory, but I don't think that the show would quite be able to nail it just right. That's my personal opinion though!
But I hundred and ten percent agree on Phoebe. I'm not necessarily against her initial lack of explicit grief in season four because she does say in Charmed Again (part two, I think? Amazon Prime combined them, so I don't actually remember where part one ended lmao) that, between her and Piper, at least one of them has to be functional at a time. Additionally, her relationship with Cole, at least to me, seemed to be a pretty strong coping mechanism in that she's clinging to him in terror of losing anyone else. It did initially feel like that they were trying to have Phoebe's grief be initially depicted as denial and trying to hold it all together, but when the time came to actually see Phoebe break, they went with the Queen of Hell arc instead and didn't want to go back to Phoebe's grief afterwards. (Eventually, I kinda wanna do a... 'expanded,' let's say, fic of the show to kind of rewrite some bits and expand on plotlines that didn't really feel resolved, and Phoebe's grief is definitely on top of the list.)
I also do get why Leo's grief wasn't expanded on, since a) he's trying to be strong for Piper and b) he isn't one of the sisters, but like... Saving Private Leo is an episode this season. An episode that literally focuses on how Leo feels like he failed to save people he cared about in his past and is currently a failure of a Whitelighter now, like. You know who would've been so fricking good to bring up? Prue! Obviously! (Also, for that matter, Natalie from s3.)
I think that season four was an interesting season for a lot of reasons, especially the various plots that they used. But like... they really could have expanded season four's primary arcs (the loss of Prue, finding and training Paige, Phoebe and Cole's relationship and marriage, the entire Source!Cole, Phoebe's stint as Queen of the Underworld, the Source!baby, etc.) into two seasons, especially with how fucking rushed the end of season four is.
I mean, the last four episodes are literally: (1) Cole is coronated as the Source and Phoebe discovers and joins him as his queen after finding out that she's pregnant, (2) Phoebe has to choose between her sisters and Cole and the sisters vanquish Cole, (3) Phoebe's pregnancy has been influenced by evil and the Seer enacts a plot to kill the sisters, take the baby's powers, and become the Source, and (4) the sisters, with their vanquish of the Source, are given the opportunity to give up their powers and return to having normal, mortal lives. (Genuinely, why is the actual finale objectively the least interesting/finale-esque of the four? Like I don't necessarily hate it but. C'mon.)
Season four's entire main plot could've been grieving Prue, discovering Paige, and reconstituting the Charmed Ones while they're still mourning the loss of their sister. Have Cole or Phoebe or someone deal a heavy blow to the Source in their escape to put off that confrontation a little while (may I mention that this is what I did in the Prandy Kids AU background outline to put off having the sisters face the Source so that they could save Piper and find Paige) so that we can have more demons sent after them, maybe one or two big overarching ones. And also start laying the actual groundwork for Source!Cole in some capacity. The show actually does show at multiple points that Cole isn't really in this to save people, he's only here because he loves and wants to be with Phoebe, not be good for his own sake. I mean, you can work with that.
And the Source recovers and has his moment in the season four finale of being like, 'You've all failed me. Now, it is my turn.' or whatever and we can get that Source confrontation in season five, along with the Source!Cole, Queen!Phoebe, pregnancy, and vanquish a little more spaced out. (I mean, currently, Phoebe's literally pregnant for, what, barely three episodes?)
(According to wiki at least,) Prue's death was today, May 17th. So, in honor of the oldest Halliwell sister's death: have you thought about how the cover up must have gone? Because, let's be real, that is not an easy death to cover up.
First of all, there is another dead body there, even if he was quickly forgotten about. He was thrown through their back window and was last seen hanging over it, so there's always the possibility that someone saw something. Plus, the house is wrecked.
As for Prue herself, she was thrown through a wall. She clearly would have suffered some kind of blunt force trauma, and we see a pool of blood underneath her head, so there was definitely some kind of damage to her body that they wouldn't be able to hide.
Honestly, I have no idea how they would've spun this. That's not really what I'm interested in talking about rn admittedly, because:
Imagine Phoebe, finding both of her sisters seemingly dead (and knowing that if she'd had been there, they'd both be alive). Imagine Leo, finding his wife and her sister seemingly dead and only able to save his wife (the guilt that must've caused). Imagine Piper waking up to find out that they didn't just fail to save an innocent (and Piper, who always took it the hardest as seen with the doctor's death, never mentions this again because), her invincible older sister is dead from the same attack that Piper herself survived (the survivor's guilt there alone.)
And not only are they confronted with the loss of their sister, but now they have to hide how it happened. Her body isn't even cold, but they have to figure out how to spin it so that they don't expose magic again. Realistically, that's when they'd probably have to call in Darryl, who is confronted with one of his close friend's death and the cover up of her murder in the span of one breath. (Which is worse? The idea that he finds out over the phone, sitting in the station and having to suddenly sit down as - who? Piper, tears in her voice? Phoebe, shaky and horrified? Leo, guilty and crying? Cole, on the rockiest of terms with Prue? - someone tells him Prue is dead - murdered - and they need his help covering it up or that he gets to the Manor, vexed and exasperated, only to see a battlefield with Prue lying dead, her sisters inconsolable, and realizing that he has to help cover all of this up while choking down his own grief about another lost friend?)
Victor had always thought that Penny calling him about Patty's death would be the worst phone call of his entire life, but this, a nightmare and worst fear come true, tops it as he finds the fastest way back to San Francisco.
Do you think about the fact that they'd have to coach each other on the cover story? Phoebe having to work to say the lies about her sister's death over and over again, always the worst at keeping secrets? Discussing potential plot holes and gaps in their story, trying to figure out how to fit it all together.
The fact that there was an investigation - of course there was an investigation, Prue's death was clearly a mystery - and at some point, someone may have pointed fingers at the sisters? (A rookie pointing out Phoebe and Prue's tense history and the former's return to take the house after their grandmother's death and the morally ambiguous boyfriend and what better way to get everything than get the oldest sister out of the way? Piper considered either as prospective victim or accomplice? I mean, Prue was noted to be the bossiest of the group and family is always the first place you look- and Darryl shutting it down, utilizing more influence than he maybe really had (and explaining his need to be promoted to Lieutenant a year later) to put a stop to it in its tracks.)
And they somehow manage to spin it as the murder it was, but imagine trying to explain how a human murdered her by throwing her through a wall. The sympathetic voices asking for statements and events and lies lies lies that the sisters and Leo and Cole and Darryl have to spin. All while Prue's body is barely cold, all while they each slowly realize that she isn't coming back this time, all while they realize that Prue Halliwell really and truly is dead for the final time, beyond their reach.

ARC Review: Highland Beast by Heather McCollum
Tumblr media
3.75/5. Releases 4/25/2023.
For when you're vibing with... hard on the outside, soft on the inside heroes, healer heroines, babies babies babies, and historical romance with a good dose of old school vibes.
Bas Sinclair, the youngest of the Sinclair brothers, was raised by his maddened father to be an embodiment of death--the literal Horseman of Death, in fact. As an adult, he abhors his role as the executioner of the land, but fulfills it anyway, living isolated and lonely. That is, until, he discovers a mysterious young woman named Shana in the woods, with a newborn baby that isn't hers...
I liked a lot about this one. I also had some issues. While I would say that I enjoyed it, and I'm totally gonna read the final book in the series, I wanted a little more for Bas.
Quick Takes:
--First off, I loved Bas. I'd been looking forward to his book through the first three installments of the series, and he didn't disappoint. He's huge and scary and trained to dispatch people easily... But he really just wants to plant bluebells and carve his little sculptures and tend to literally every animal that could come across his path. He's threatening and intimidating, but he's also a deeply awkward and shy precious angel who never did anything wrong, in his life ever. And I hated how he'd clearly been traumatized from literal birth... But I did also kind of deeply enjoy how that trauma manifested itself.
--The thing about this series is that you will not enjoy it if you don't enjoy... a bit of cheese. I say that affectionately; it's not a bad thing to me. It reads very old school. The heroes are hulking big men who almost pass out when their wives are in labor because they're too stressed. They throw around weird little jokes that sometimes make you go "a weird moment to make that comment, but okay". There's a big emphasis on FAMILY. The heroes recite apocalyptic Bible passages before killing people. Normal historical romance shit.... but maybe not so common today?
--I kind of love the unusual setting of late sixteenth century Scotland. It ain't medieval, it ain't Regency/Victorian. You get references to King James (who was, like, a supporting character in the third book). This book is more of a true insular Scottish romance, but the setting still feels very different in today's market.
--There is a lot of childbearing in this novel, and honestly, in the series in general. Shana is a midwife, and I do enjoy a midwife heroine. Two of the heroines of previous books are pregnant; one gives birth in this book, which gives you a lot of my series-favorite couple, Joshua and Kara (of Highland Warrior). There's discussion of birthing animals, and to be honest? The first book had a horse birth, the second book had a human birth, and the third involved a woman who'd just given birth (not the heroine). So maybe Heather just likes that, and that's okay. Normally I feel like that would annoy me, but for some reason the general vibe of this series make me... okay with it?
--What bothered me more was how Shana reacted to Bas. Her being scared of him in the beginning? Totally real and normal. Then they have this lovely romance, they have sex, there's a lot of emotional intimacy, and a Thing happens. And it's like... kind of obvious. Why it happens. And Shana is suddenly acting like this man she's fallen in love with could be a monster again? It just felt cheap and out of character, considering how common-sensical she'd been in the entire novel. To me, it read as a last minute attempt to inject drama. And I'm all about drama; but the drama has to make sense. A lot of the drama in this book did. That bit didn't.
The Sex Stuff:
There are a couple of sex scenes in this book, and they're good. Nothing crazy. I actually think that we could've gone further, as Bas, while not a virgin, is very inexperienced. I would've liked to see him try some other stuff. Also, to be fair to all the birthing scenes and pregnancies in this series--the Sinclair brothers NEVER pull out ever.
Mixed feelings, but I did enjoy it, and I really love Bas as a hero. Just keep all of this in mind if you decide to read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Entangled for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
