[Episodes 6] Four things cannot be hidden—love, smoke, a pillar of fire and a man striding across the open bled.
On your twentieth birthday, after spending three years with Qimir, you finally decide to reveal your secret to him.
There is no point in hiding it any longer, especially after he has already seen something he shouldn’t have on that ship. Besides, you no longer wish to conceal it. That near-death experience has changed your perspective—not just on your own feelings but also on the visions that have surfaced from deep within your subconscious. Through the fog of time, you sense profound changes—both in the future paths and in the bond between you and him.
A bond you never wanted to form. Feelings you wish to deny. But no matter how hard you try, in the end, you can’t escape it.
Sometimes, fate has a strange way of twisting things—you can’t help but think that when you recall your first meeting. You hated Qimir with all the intensity of your feelings. You couldn’t stand him. There were moments you even plotted his death, planning to flee far away. But who would have thought that three years later, you’d find yourself lying in his arms on a small bed in a rundown hotel near the Starports on Olega, far removed from the bloody events on Tatooine.
You are uncertain if it can even be called love. But one thing is certain: Qimir's presence changes your life forever. He changes you. You change him. And you have no idea if it is for better or worse.
Resting your head on Qimir's chest, you let his large hand caress your back. It's strange how safe you feel with him, despite having witnessed him kill so many people.
But it's not just you who feels this way. Qimir doesn't seem to fear you either. His words are blunt and direct when he finally asks about what he's seen. "I saw what you did—you control people with just your words," Qimir says. "What exactly are you? A member of some witch's coven?"
He turns on his side, wrapping his arm around your shoulder, holding you close as if to comfort you from the terrifying events that have unfolded earlier. Yet at the same time, it is clear he intends to keep you there, preventing you from leaving until you answer his question honestly.
You know Qimir’s intent, but do not push back. You remain silent for a moment before replying.
"It is an ancient technique passed down by my people," you confess, feeling as though you are revealing a terrible sin to some forgotten god. "We use our voice to command others, bending their will to our desires." You pause before adding, "And no, I am not part of any witch’s coven. My mother said those covens are nothing but lowly imitators, trying to replicate what we truly are."
"Your people? What do you mean?" Qimir frowns, curiosity gleaming in his eyes.
You close your eyes and take a deep breath. A wave of unease washes over you as you realize that the moment of truth is finally upon you.
“I am Bene Gesserit.”
Bene Gesserit—those words, foreign to most in this age, are known only to a select few who have studied ancient history.
According to old records, before the rise of the Jedi Order, the Bene Gesserit was a powerful religious order that held great power throughout the galaxy, known as the Sisterhood. They only accepted women deemed worthy into their ranks.
It is said that the Bene Gesserit were the true originators of the Force, passing down their teachings through generations. The Bene Gesserit sisters possessed mysterious powers and physical capabilities far beyond the reach of ordinary people. They could neutralize poisons within their own bodies, control others with the power of the voice, and train their minds and bodies to heights that defied natural limits. Some could even glimpse into the future with an eerie sense of prophecy, though only fragments of what was to come—except for the Reverend Mothers who led the order. They alone held the power to peer through the memories of their ancestors, journeying through the past, present, and distant future.
And it was this obsession with the visions they received that drove their beliefs. The Bene Gesserit were convinced that the universe was heading toward destruction, haunted by the prospect of a terrible future. Their only solution was to guide human evolution to its pinnacle through meticulous breeding programs that spanned generations. They strengthened their power by sending their sisters to marry and breed with the ruling houses of various planets, integrating themselves into the political and religious structures, and influencing every layer of society, from the lowest to the highest ranks—all for one ultimate goal: the creation of the Kwisatz Haderach, a superior human who transcended all others.
Yet ironically, it was the Kwisatz Haderach himself who brought about the very doom of the universe, which the Bene Gesserit had feared and attempted to avoid all along.
The Bene Gesserit succeeded in creating the Kwisatz Haderach as intended, but they utterly failed to control him. Paul Atreides, the only son of Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica of the Atreides, a Bene Gesserit sister, became a religious icon before he reached twenty. He was revered as the Lisan al Gaib—Voice from the Outer World—and was worshiped as a godhead. He led the Fremen, the ancient people of Arrakis, in a jihad that spread across the galaxy. Tens of millions perished in the holy war, and hundreds of millions more during the tyrannical rule of the Kwisatz Haderach’s own son.
Eventually, the Kwisatz Haderach's dynasty was annihilated by the vengeful masses, and the universe slowly began to heal, giving rise to numerous new sects, including the Jedi Order.
The Bene Gesserit were said to have vanished during this time, and rumors of their demise were widespread. Some claimed that the Kwisatz Haderach, driven by his hatred for the Sisterhood, had eradicated them entirely, while others believed they were blamed for the jihad and were hunted down by the vengeful populace.
Regardless of the cause, the true reason for the destruction of the Bene Gesserit was their overwhelming power and the mysterious goals they pursued. It was decided that the Bene Gesserit witches should no longer exist in the universe, as no one wanted to risk the emergence of a second Kwisatz Haderach.
For thousands of years, you have been the last Bene Gesserit. Although your skills and powers are far weaker than those of your ancestors due to a lack of proper training, you still surpass both Jedi and Sith. Your power is the source of the Force they wield—an ancient power that none can fully replicate unless they are also Bene Gesserit.
“I am not only a Bene Gesserit; I am also a Fremen,” you reveal, deciding to share another layer of your secret with him. You point to your deep blue eyes, the eyes of Ibad, the distinct mark of your ancient race, now long extinct along with the Bene Gesserit. “My Fremen name is Hara[1], a name known only to my mother."
You are surprised at yourself for disclosing your Fremen name to him. For the Fremen, a tribal name carries deep meaning and significance, given only to those who can be trusted completely.
However, you feel a sense of relief after finally speaking, though it's not complete. There are still secrets you haven’t shared with him, but revealing this much is already more than enough. You trust Qimir, but you are unsure how much of this truth he can truly accept. Deep down, you are terrified he might see you as a monster, shun you, or worse, decide to eliminate you like others might. Your very existence might be too dangerous to allow you to survive.
But Qimir says nothing. He appears deep in thought, his expression unreadable. You can’t discern his feelings, and the silence grows unbearable. Finally, you ask, 'Do you fear me now that you know who I am?'"
As the words leave your mouth, you bite your lip unconsciously while waiting for his reply, worry gnawing at you. How strange it is to be afraid of his rejection more than your own death."
"Fear?" Qimir tilts his head, puzzled by your question for a moment. Seeing your distressed expression, he quickly grasps your concern. "I have no reason to fear you," he says, stepping closer to place a gentle kiss on your forehead, then the tip of your nose. "I do not fear you," he emphasizes, sealing his words with a firm kiss on your lips.
You let Qimir kiss you a little longer. When he finally gives you a chance to catch your breath, you ask, 'Even though I am dangerous?' Your voice is barely a whisper, filled with uncertainty.
Everything feels too perfect and too smooth, and instead of providing reassurance, it only makes you feel more uneasy.
Qimir smiles widely, almost as if he wants to laugh but is holding it back. "Oh, in that case, it’s me you should fear more." He teases, his tone playful, as he resumes kissing you. Not on your lips, but now on your ear, nibbling playfully, while one of his hands moves up to your breast, caressing and teasing your nipple through the fabric with his thumb.
Your eyes widen as you realize what is about to happen. You grab Qimir’s arm, quickly halting his mischievous actions before things can go any further. “Qimir,” you call out his name, your heart pounding, your voice faltering with each shaky breath.
Qimir stops immediately, pulling back slightly to look into your eyes. You see the clear reflection of desire in his dark eyes. “Don’t want to?” he asks, his voice carrying a hint of pleading, though the playful smirk at the corner of his mouth suggests something more sly, as if he knows every thought in your mind without reading it, knowing that you won’t refuse.
His knowing demeanor makes you feel annoyed, but there is little you can do. In a situation like this, you are at a disadvantage in nearly every way.
“Well, I…” You try to speak but hesitate for a moment, your cheeks burning hot as if set aflame. You don’t know how to explain it to him without making yourself feel even more embarrassed. “I don’t know how... I’ve never... you understand, right?”
That isn’t entirely true. Even though you have never been intimate with anyone, you aren’t that naive. As a Bene Gesserit, you can see the past through ancestral memories, which sometimes bring you glimpses of things you shouldn’t see, intruding into your dreams. But dreams and reality are entirely different. You feel out of place, unsure of what to do, like someone who has read extensively but fails when it comes to practical application.
Qimir lets out a clear laugh, his sly smile shifting to one of genuine amusement, making you blush even more. Before you can protest, he seizes the moment and silences you with a kiss.
This time, though, it feels different.
Never before has a kiss between you two felt so deep and intense. His lips and tongue are sharp and distinct as they invade, filled with a potent desire that permeates every touch, burning with unwavering purpose, as if he wants to touch the very core of your being, reaching the true self you have never revealed to anyone.
When he finally pulls back, he doesn’t move far. His mouth lingers on your lips, and his hands gently cradle your cheeks. “Relax, don’t be afraid,” Qimir whispers, his lips trailing to your neck, feeling the rapid pulse beneath your skin, then moving down to your chest. “I told you before, you don’t need to hide yourself when you’re with me.” His voice is soft, almost dreamlike, but every touch is real.
You follow his lead, as if under a spell, letting him undress you without resistance. His large hands roam over every part of your soft skin, planting kisses along the curves of your body, from your shoulders down to your hips, and finally to the inside of your thighs. His dark eyes examine your naked form without looking away, not missing a single detail, taking in every perfection and flaw—nothing hidden, nothing concealed.
“I want you to feel every emotion within you—anger, fear, and desire…” The word ‘desire’ from Qimir’s lips was as sweet as honey. “Embrace who you truly are, what you can be, and what you can do when you’re with me—only with me.”
You flinch as his fingertips brush against your delicate folds before sliding inside you. You can feel every knuckle as he slowly works his way deeper, one finger becoming two, gently stretching you as he allows you to grow accustomed to the sensation. He then begins to move them slowly, his thumb rubbing your bud, massaging every sensitive spot inside and out, sending shivers of unfamiliar pleasure through your body.
Waves of strange, stinging bliss ripple across your skin, making you restless as you writhe in the throes of sharp delight. But his other hand presses firmly on your lower abdomen, forcing you to stay still.
“Be a good girl,” Qimir admonishes, a grin tugging at his lips, clearly enjoying watching you struggle helplessly beneath him.
You moan, burying your face in the pillow, your entire body trembling with the intensity of your climax, making you feel like you are floating in a sea of stars. After catching your breath for a moment, you look up to see Qimir hastily removing his own clothes. His skin is pale, his body sculpted with lean, defined muscles, as beautiful as a statue in a temple. But what sets him apart are the scars, some small, some large, like cracks in marble. Yet these imperfections only make him more striking, unique, and beautiful.
Qimir turns to look at you, fully aware that you have been watching him the entire time. His face softens in the dim light, but his eyes remain dark. You sense the intense longing within them—a desire he’s harbored for a long time. You wonder why you never noticed the fragile restraint in him until now. He seems on the verge of snapping, as if he’s been wound too tight, ready to unravel at any moment.
Qimir wastes no time, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you close until there’s no space left between you and him. His hardness presses firmly against the crevice of your thighs, the heat spreading through your body as his cock gradually sinks into your swollen slit, filling you completely.
A low moan escapes his lips, soft and barely audible. Qimir pauses briefly, giving you a chance to catch your breath and adjust. As he takes a moment to relish the closeness, he revels in the warmth of your tight, slick, silky walls that embrace his length perfectly.
"It might hurt at first, but it’ll get better soon. Just bear with it," he murmurs, his hand gently stroking your hair. He plants a warm kiss on your cheek, trying to comfort you as your face contorts with pain. It feels like he’s about to tear you apart as he pushes in fully. You lock eyes with him in shock as a flood of emotions washes over you—strange, frightening, painful, and thrilling all at once.
Your lips part, letting out a silent moan as Qimir begins to move, thrusting in to the hilt until you can feel every inch of him deep within you. He brushes away a stray lock of black hair from your face, tucking it behind your ear. His lips press a kiss to your sweat-dampened temple as his hips thrust forward, quickening the pace. Your soft inner walls tighten, clenching around him as his tip repeatedly hits your sweet spot.
By now, the pain has subsided, replaced by waves of pleasure building inside you, ready to explode.
Tears stream down your cheeks as you grip Qimir's shoulders as if your life depends on his mercy. Your hips rise to meet his movements, every fiber of your being striving to get closer to him, nearly melding into one.
The rhythm changes slightly, slowing down and becoming less steady but more forceful. You pant heavily, feeling the climax approaching, each movement bringing you closer to the edge of ecstasy.
Just a few more thrusts, and you both reach the peak together. He spills into you, his release filling you up and spilling over. The hot, wet feeling of his cum makes your body shiver and feel dizzy, still unaccustomed to these new sensations.
The room gradually returns to calm. When Qimir pulls away, your body suddenly feels light and empty, like weightless cotton. You drift in the calm afterglow, enveloped in his embrace as he nuzzles you, kisses your cheeks and forehead, and caresses your hair tenderly, just as lovers do."
But there are no words of 'love' from his lips. The last thing you hear from Qimir before slipping into sleep is, 'You’re no longer alone. You belong to me.”
Instead of feeling reassured by these words, a strange unease flickers through your mind, as if you've just stepped onto a path of grave mistake.
Footnotes:
[1] In Fremen culture (as depicted in the film Dune), Fremen names are special names that differ from regular ones, only shared with outsiders when there’s deep trust and acceptance. For example, Chani tells Paul her Fremen name, 'Sihaya,' as a sign of accepting him as a lover. That’s why the reader needs a Fremen name—it’s culturally important (and I certainly WILL NOT USE Y/N as a Fremen name, absolutely no way!). I’ve hinted at this name since EP : I (if you pay attention, you’ll notice it), and it ties into the story, so I hope you're okay with the name I picked.

Arcane season 2!
Just watched Act 3 and I’m not ready to say goodbye after all that happened…
(Spoilers under the cut)
Hextech really was the problem all along. Ep 7’s alternative timeline is proof of that. Without it, both Zaun and Piltover would be at peace…
Mylo, Claggor, Vander, Silco, Benzo, they’re all alive and Powder never turned into Jinx in that timeline. The only bad thing there is Vi’s dead. What could’ve been…
Jayce’s actions make sense now, goes to show that you shouldn’t rush to judgement before you know the whole story.
TimeBomb kiss! TimeBomb kiss! I ship them so much!!! 🤩🤩🤩
Heimerdinger is no more. But at least he lived a life of peace in another universe… Rest in peace, Professor.
Mel’s fully embraced her mage status, her magic looks amazing, and her new look! She’d make a good in-game champion…
Viktor’s fully embraced the glorious evolution now, and turned his followers mechanical. Low key kinda scary though… his new look must be the rework Riot was talking about for his in-game self!
Warwick NOOOOOO! 😭😭😭 Vander is gone, only the beast remains, with a mechanical twist… RIP Uncaged Wrath of Zaun.
Ambessa really was the villain all along, even if her intentions were misguided. She truly deserved a warrior’s death…
They did it! CaitVi did the deed! I’m so happy for them! They truly belong together, far from being oil and water… ❤️❤️❤️
Jinx took Isha’s death hard. Someone give her a hug… 🫂
We lost some good people in the war, Loris, that Jinxer. But it was worth it now that the good guys won…
Zaun entered the fight in a truly epic fashion! The twin cities are united! 🎉🎉🎉
The Boy Saviour did what he meant to do! He shattered time and saved the day! Ekko FTW!
The mage that saved Mrs Talis was Viktor?! It all makes sense, he traveled across timelines giving young Jayce a crystal with a different rune to save the future, and only one was successful. MIND. BLOWN. 🤯🤯🤯
What happened to Jayce and Viktor? They used the crystal, but at what cost? Maybe we’ll never know… also, they hugged! He truly has forgiven him…
JINX NO!!!! She sacrificed herself to save her sister from Warwick! Guess Isha won’t be lonely up there… RIP Loose Cannon… 😭😭😭😭
CaitVi got their happy ending. But what’s next for them? Fanfic writers, you know what to do…
Maddie betrayed Piltover?! Guess all the hate was rightfully placed, especially now that she’s dead…
Swain? What’s your crow doing here?! Watching Noxus retreat? I don’t trust you…
This show was amazing and it ended on a truly epic note. I’m really gonna miss it. Thank you, Riot and Fortiche for giving us a story we’ll never forget…

look, not to be a hater but the whole ekko/jinx alternate universe situation only proves that jinx was only ever loved entirely and completely by silco, that's kinda the point of how tragic jinx really is as a character,
vi either only sees her little sister out of guilt/sense of duty mixed with a desperate need to come back to something or as consequences to her own actions(taking away agency from jinx in the process);
ekko sees her through the eyes of an idealist which is exactly what he is and that's not bad by itself, but it makes her either A Problem or Someone That Needs Saving, that's what's going on in his head after that AU he transported to. he's comparing jinx to powder and he likes powder much better, so he wants jinx to be powder or to reignite the powder in her - basically, he thinks how vi used to think;
isha is a complicated matter because she did show kindness and affection towards jinx that wasn't equal to anyone else's, it was pure and idolizing, she loved what she knew of jinx.
the people of zaun don't love her, not by a long shot. she became a symbol to some(as we can notice in the reunion by vander's statue) and overall the assumption that she would get involved more after her attack and silco's death is a fair one; that doesn't mean they like her,
sevika maintains a connection to jinx through grief and a sense of helplessness along with familiarity, silco's death affected jinx's psyche but it also affected sevika's dream of zaun, they feel left behind by him;
vander... well, he only got to see powder and warwick quite literally just had the memories,
the ONLY character we see that meets her as powder and stays with her as jinx is silco; yes, he isn't a good guy and he does cause the whole separation, he sharpened her edges to make her into a weapon, he lied to her and manipulated her at times, none of these things exclude the fact he does love her so strongly, with zero conditions.
she fucks up in missions, she does as she pleases around zaun, she kills their people, she stabs him in the eye, has psychotic episodes and breakdowns, she kidnaps him, ties him down, SHOOTS HIM, she doubts him and his love, keeps running after the past when he's done everything to strengthen her and she was, at a point, the only thing keeping him from his dream of an independent zaun - none of these perceived sins and flaws made him wish for anyone other than her, as she is.
all silco wanted was to keep her, while everyone else either wants another version of her or none at all. that's the tragic part, even if she suddenly decided to be good, she would feel like a burden for not being entirely like people want her to be.
#sorry not sorry but there's no happy ending here#loving someone without accepting how they've changed(for better or worst) isn't loving at all. it's cruel even.#also after the attack on the council vi treats her like a mistake she has to get rid of???? and that was vile#i simply can't forget that#yes i'm biased cause i dont like ekko and i ship jilco. this is literally the Why Im Biased About This Piece Of Media Essay website#so maybe chill idk#before anyone says it#loving doesn't mean condoning. but you gotta at least acknowledge their flawed personality. who they are instead of who they could've been.#yes u can hope for change but jinx isn't a mask powder keeps. she's violent and highly insecure and apathetic. she's needy and childish.#she doesn't care for whatever is happening to zaun or piltover. there's no difference for her they're all fleshbags that could hurt her.#at her core she won't suddenly start giving a shit to people. that will never happen. and she won't look up to someone 'good'#or ever stop being so high maintenance so needy and possessive. trauma won't ever just puff outta existence.#god these tags are so long#imma shut up now#arcane spoilers#character study (?)#arcane season 2#this is my opinion#if you don't like you can just disagree on ur mind and ignore me#make ur own post or smth idk#arcane jinx#arcane powder

ok im watching act 3 again to write down my questions and see if anything makes sense this time
edit im 2 eps in this got long as FUCK kjchgxhi come talk to me!!!!! im screeching into the void!!!!!!! americans wake up look at my post!!!!!!!! say everything to me!!!!!!!!!
why are we introducing time travel alternate universes into this story
where did the other ekko go, was he in Our ekkos universe/body or just out of commission, bc that makes no sense i think, if they didnt switch then wheres the ✨symmetry✨
do you think that skye had anything to do with them figuring out the cleaning flowers thing in the AU? and is viktor dead? and jayce in jail? banished? i wonder where skye went here i hope shes living her best not in love with a gay guy life
where the FUCK was the Original-AU heimerdonger when he got bodysnatched by the Our version? they do still call him professor but in Our version he just recently got kicked out of the council so would he still be just freeloadin around zaun at that point in the AU? was he ever councilor?
can everyone on my screen Please stop hurling their guts out from timetraveldisease
if theres no hextech and no anomaly in the AU reality then how did it throw them in it in the first place
ekko is smart but if he was smarter hed stay around to research what needed to happen to make zaun work in this version and save himself time figuring it out from the groundup back home, i think
but also what the fuck COULD have possibly happened to make it so different CUZ LIKE- ok the little flashback bit with vi dying in jayces house- the gang is wearing the same clothes as in Our version, so that would probably indicate that THAT zaun was also in the same state as Our ""original"" version too? right? no? i mean i would say they did put emphasis on clag n mylos clothes being different and more piltovian or whatever idk maybe im onto nothing WAIT NO BECAUSE CLAGGOR WAS MAKING THE DAMN FLOWER TO CLEAN THE POLLUTION SO IF THATS STILL THERE THEN IT COULDNT HAVE BEEN RESOLVED THAT MUCH EARLIER HERE RIGHT
also what the fuck had to be different exactly for enforcers to bust the kids after blowing up a building and not chuck them all in stillwater this time around? did they really care that much about vi dying? was that really the inciting incident for zauns inclusion? marcus? fucking MARCUS marcus? marcus "im gonna bury the lot of you" "deals with the devil to get a 14 yearold put in jail for life"* marcus sees a zaunite girl dead (after breaking into a piltover home and wrecking it) and just goes "aw :c" ? the council of rich businessfucks like salo whod do everything they can to maintain the status quo? is One Dead Kid (still the name of my nonexistent band) really all it takes this time? am i too tough on these people am i dumb if id like some elaboration on how that whole story went or
*to be honest i. dont really get what that Deal thing with silco was about in the first place
wheres Scar aaaat show me my guyy whERES VIKAAA
how did the shimmer story end up in the AU because IF the main change here is vis death then i could believe that silco WAS still already on track with beginning the production at that point if of course singed is also in the same position as Originally
is there a universe where that hammer lands on jayjays head and ends him right there
did silco forgive vanvan before or after zaun gets their "win" in the AU? because my bet is DEFINITELY after
ALSO how the fuck in a city like piltover did they not renovate jayces blown up flat after fuck knows how many years, at LEAST 3 (id wager at least 7 but thats just me so whatever) like city of progress who?? is it just there as like a cautionary tale??? did they put up a lil plaque for jayce after he kild himself?? they just boarded that shit up tho there was nobody there?? why did they leave it like that idk
WHY did heimerdeimer die???? DID he die?? why did he DIE?????? what happens to the AU-Original hongerdonger??? you couldnt have just waited 10 minutes and have powder do allat?? she trusted us right? maybe not
why WAS bonking viktor in the head with the zdrive the answer to our problems
powder knew what she was doing with that innovators cum petition sign right
WHAT the FUCK was that mylo claggor moment like am i inSANE OR WAS THIS SUS AS HELL also (man rapping) put some FUCKING RESPECT on stromaes name
how DID rizzard viktor stop being purple actually. god i still hate that reveal im not smart but i refuse to believe that was good writing
what happened to put that rock in jayces wrist? it wasnt a process it was viktor doing it in a split second why did that need to happen? so he wouldnt lose it? hunh?
no because WHAT IS AMBESSAS FUCKING GOAL HERE IN THE END
does she want kino back? whAT DO YOU WANT WOMANNNN
did that princess girl that got her head sliced off by bessa in the first season actually have anything to do with anything in the end or not cuz im just confuzzled
how does he know that
what does that mean
how does SHE know THAT
what does THAT mean
does loris have the same accent as vik??????
where the fuck did that ginger binch come from in the first place is she from piltover or noxus if shes from piltover what did ambessa give her and when
Neither of them would say ANY of this shit
wonder what vi would say if she saw this conversation before her and cait decided to pork
im just gonna choose to believe she was in there for like 5 hours so her labrador attention span just reset and she chilled out about jinx (actually ykw i guess im willing to believe at this point she doesnt really care that much if jinky offs herself or not)
what the FUCK ARE these goddamn doll puppet thingies viktor makes why are they LIKE that why is THIS the theme here (because orianna and Plot) (but like dyouknow what i mean)
what the fuck was the point of Skye Young as a character in this entire story other than a Gaydar Jammer. with all respect to skyvik stans but like. what is it.
lmao you abandoned them much before that guys
we stan a I Gave You Food And A Roof Why Are You Sad You Ungrateful Ingrate queen
it REALLY DOESNT DOES IT JGHCCGHIBC
why DID skye die again? they wouldnt have just? integrated? again? or smthn? why is this a one-passenger ride all of a sudden? we already got a hivemind thing goin? whatsup?

Soul Traitor

Summary: Betrayal among soulmates is unheard of in all the free races of Arda, yet that’s exactly what Durin VI, King of Khazad-dûm, endures. Heartsick and angry, he damns the Valar for their choice and earns their wrath in return. He and his former love will be reincarnated until the wrong between them is righted. Thorin Oakenshield, Durin’s lastest reincarnation, believes nothing can break that curse but for the Arkenstone that was stolen so many years ago. Gandalf, the meddlesome wizard, offers a hobbit translator for their quest. Yet, this hobbit may be the key to uncovering more than just a gem. An ugly truth that has remained hidden in the misdeeds and lost words of the past, about to be unlocked and free Thorin and Bilbo from this seemingly never ending cycle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Chapter: Chapter 4- Songs About Gold
It did not endear Thorin to their hired translator, and he spent most of their journey doing his best to ignore the halfling. He thought his company would take cues from him, but Frerin’s hatred was a bit harder to overcome. Frerin made it apparent that they weren’t to engage with the halfling, weren’t to treat him like an actual person. For some reason, it didn’t sit right with Thorin, but he didn’t do anything to stop it either. He could tell that he disappointed Ori.
His apprentice had a brilliant mind and a large heart. Ori didn’t understand why their race continued to punish another for the sake of one being. It was a source of contention between the two as Thorin had the memories of exactly what that one being had cost them. Still, he wasn’t too surprised when the company factioned to include the halfling and Ori was one of them. Kili surprised him, but not Ori.
Still the desire to know what was in that journal nagged at Thorin. Sure, he had Durin’s memories, but another firsthand account of what Khazad-dum had been like was almost too much to hope for. The historian in him fought hard against the prince, demanding that he engage with the halfling. He didn’t have to be nice. It was a business transaction after all. He just needed to know. Every day though, he pushed that voice away. He would not, could not, be the one to interact with the halfling. And then the halfling surprised him by speaking to him first. Well, more accurately, warning him.
Superstitious nonsense, and even if it wasn’t he couldn’t afford to look weak and bend to the commands of this halfling. Not with everything that was riding on this mission. His one chance to change his fate. No, he disregarded the halfling. Even as those determined, pleading eyes haunted him into the night.
Now, it may be too late to regret it.
Thorin weakly opened his eyes, unable to move his body as it was being draped in white cloth and golden baubles from the demons that stole him and his company. Their cold eyes shined brightly in the dark, and their screeches carried a certain cadence. Almost as if they were singing. They glided effortlessly around him, all except for the one at the end holding a long gleaming blade.
Thorin’s eyes drifted close, the energy fading from him fast. Durin, Thorin I, Dain, and now him. He’ll just be another voice in the head of the next dwarf.
ALRIGHT EVERYBODY, LET'S ANALYSE THIS!!
So that map shows us some key locations. I was wondering what that tall building was in the pre-vis, and it's confirmed that that's the Baxter Building. The version in the pre-vis didn't have the 4 logo, so it's either going to be added after their rocket launch, or it's just for us to identify the FF headquarters on the map. Cute that their rocket is called the Excelsior Launch Pad, not just because it's Stan Lee's catchphrase, but because Excelsior literally means "ever upward" fitting for a rocket.
Time Square is featured. I can see a world symbol on the main corner building, but I also see a space themed establishment next to an ABC building, so despite taking place in an alternate New York, there will be products and brands from the real world making an appearance. I wonder if ABC is the people recording all that archival footage in-universe.
The Flatiron building is featured, but it doesn't appear to have any significance to the FF in the comics. It did serve as the headquarters for Damage Control though.
Yancy Street is front and centre on the map, I can see a deli, a synagogue, and a few apartment complexes. I'm very happy that Ben Grimm's jewish heritage is on display, even if the star of david is one of those blink and you'll miss it parts of the poster.
Speaking of blink and you'll miss it, right under Wall Street is a label for Subterranea!! Cute reference or foreshadowing to a Mole Man appearance in the movie? I think they should absolutely fight a Kirby monster in the opening of the movie.
The Williamsburg and Brooklyn Bridge are also featured. Other than the scene from 2005 Fantastic Four where they save a fire truck, I can't think of any significance this may have for the team.
We also have the Statue of Liberty, but on Govenor's Island is The FF Clean Energy Complex. I have no doubt this EBCOT looking area is gonna have some significance for the plot of the film. Maybe an explosion caused by a bad guy? Maybe Galactus drains the nuclear fission cells dry? Who knows.
If y'all noticed anything else from the poster, let me know.
I can't explain it, but when we get a glimpse of Vi's death in the alternate universe, and the Enforcers come in... Dude, the way their faces drop as they see the full scene in front of them... Like that gets me for some reason. It probably was meant as shock and some sympathy for these poor kids, but my mind is like... It's more than that. My brain wants to read it is as horror not only that a child died, but a desperate child died and left a little sister behind while trying to make things better for her, who is now clinging to her big sis while their friends sit there stunned and just starting to register what's happened and are starting to cry too. Like, the full situation is hitting these cops and they're seeing the truth of it, and not where these kids came from or economic status. Just the raw horror of a dead child and sympathy for the outpouring of anguish they're witnessing but can't really DO anything about.
My main issue with Arcane S2 is that they should’ve kept it Piltover vs. Zaun if they were going to only make 2 seasons. Like I’m interested in Mel’s story but Mel’s diplomacy skills should’ve been in play instead of her mage powers. Like have her seek out her origins after helping Zaun gain independence. Ambessa shouldn’t have been used as a common enemy and I would’ve preferred to see her story unfold in the next region(s) too. Caitlyn going fascist was a stupid decision because why make her go too far and not have any repercussions for what she’s done? This is just a few of so many weird decisions.
I think the problem with arcane is that instead of being a league AU it was changed to canon, because now it has to open up the world. Piltover and zaun are fine regions as a quick standalone show but in the greater scheme of runeterra theyre baby regions, and so if arcane is the official league canon then we need to open up the universe more and introduce other region.
I do love Noxus and black rose though. They could have made this season 99% black rose stuff and I would have been so happy. I loved seeing Mel as a mage. But I do also think this ties into the problem of making arcane canon. Because as soon as it’s canon it goes down the route of how can we bring in all these different people and connect them. And once you start doing that you realize how little a class conflict feels compared to all these other world ending threats. And so then character have to get scaled up to the world they’re in now. Mel being mage, Viktor going from machine man who gives you cybernetic upgrades to arcane hive mind god. Now piltover and zaun get to be part of the world ending threat common enemy stories and we lose the original plot in the process.
Also league zaun is still in a bad place, pretty much where it was in s1. So if they kept with the piltover v zaun they’d have to completely overhaul the entire city and all the champs in it. And so the easier solution is just the common enemy, have the cities slight work together enough that we can make a show of teamwork without actually changing any status. Again if this was an AU it wouldn’t have mattered if Zaun gains independence and becomes its own great city but since it’s canon they were restricted in what the end state of zaun was. Yes they can make Zaun doing better but it can’t have it reach that level that we saw in the alternate world from episode 7.
Cait fascist “arc” to me comes from the fact that she is a really simple character and she doesn’t really have anywhere to go. She is the sherif of piltover in game which means that’s her arcane counterpart really doesn’t have a major arc it’s just a couple promotions to get her there. And so there’s not a lot to do with her character in terms of growth besides 180 it to make her the bad guy, but then she’s a good guy and so she can’t stay fascist for long and there’s not real consequences. I personally would have had preferred her to take a backseat role this season but then she gets reduced to just vi’s love interest which is also bad.
#i really just think they aimed to high with making arcane canon#rather then letting it be it’s own little thing#there’s just to many variables to have to deal with for a canon two season show that overwrites all previous lore#arcane
Top of the Board
by khloyaaa
Caitlyn stood frozen in the doorway of the bakery, staring at Vi in a maroon apron.
"Huh," Vi said, one eyebrow raised in her direction. "Didn’t think I’d see you slumming it in Zaun, cupcake."
Caitlyn’s voice caught in her throat. "I—I needed WiFi."
- - - -
As the face of the Kirraman name, daughter of high Piltovan Senator Cassandra Kirraman prides herself in her school status as student council president, tennis captain, and in general being the absolute academic powerhouse that she is— well that was, until Violet Lanes moved into her final year at the Academy.
Seemingly without a care, the annoyingly attractive pink-haired girl has managed to go neck for neck with Caitlyn in every exam the past half year despite not showing an inkling of control over her what in Caitlyn's eye is absolutely unacceptable behaviour.
To most this is admirable. To Caitlyn? Well, she thinks she might die if she doesn't throw the other girl of a roof soon . . . or in her bed.
Everything changes however when a fight with her mother sends Caitlyn out of her pristine upper-class world into the streets of Zaun when she stumbles across a cozy bakery where, to her shock, Vi is working behind the counter.
I've rebbogged some posts that express most of my thoughts already already but I thought I'll summarise it in a post myself.
Act 3 is dogwater actually imo. It's not the worst thing I've watched but for a show with such a strong season one and the 1st act of season 2 being really compelling, I am extremely disappointed. The only watchable/bearable episode to me was episode 7 and even that has it's own issues by itself.
Here are the things I didn't like:
Jinx deserved better. Jinx really did. I do not care about the theories whether or not Jinx is alive. You do not end a suicidal girl arc with a cheap sacrifice and vaguely hint at her being alive. Priorities people. (Imo it felt like they killed Jinx off to satisfy the criteria of one sister must be dead for the other to be happy as established in ep7)
If you thought Caitvi was rushed in act 2, it's WORSE here. There's no intimate charecter moments or apologies for how they treated each other. The most we get is a lesbian sex scene and while that was so cool I even had friends pointed it out on my discord status, people have already mentioned it before how forced it felt especially when Jinx just ran off to off herself. Sex is not the most important thing right now. Cait and Vi do somewhat care about Jinx too as evident by the previous dialogue.
Jayce and Vik have felt off charecter, I know that's the point but in this arc it's just especially bad. We don't even get Vik's League form as payoff for what they were trying to set up. (I'm a MelJayceVik shipper for context)
While ep7 is the favourite of mine and I enjoyed seeing Timebomb canon, the switch between Ekko and Hemi living their best lives and Jayce fighting for his life was also absolutely comedy gold, I just. Do not. See that alternate universe happening man. The Undercity DOES NOT gain independence through Vi's death, and it's cheap and gross and fake and honestly horrible even in fact that it does. The reason why Piltover and Zaun are so separated and horrible with each other is the prejudice, and it's even shown in the first few episodes that Vander and Grace were maintaining a very thin line of peace and once that broke, chaos wrecked havoc. Vi dying or not doesn't change that. Nothing is magically fixed because the other sister is dead. It took them YEARS to give Zaun independence for goodness sake, right before Jinx's blastered the entire council. Jayce arc made sense at least.
I do not understand why Viktor would just agree to work with Ambessa, their personalities are complete opposites. Vik chases for peace and freedom, Ambessa wants war every waking moment.
What's with the amount of killed champions man?? I did see a theory that they would be willing to kill off one but it was like. Almost every major playable charecter? And for what? Emotional value? Lazy writing? Ambessa literally just became a playable champion too to advertise season 2 and she DIES???
Honestly the only thing I liked about act 3 was Mel's arc, and the ending of Jayvik was sweet. CaitVi was nice, but it felt so unearned and undeserved. As Cait herself said, you can't erase the actions you've done.
The songs are still bangers at least.
I do not blame the people working on it, it's clear they were heavily rushed to try and pull off every story beat, it's just underwhelming that something with such a good season 1 with a 250 million budget ended up like this. They could've done so much better if season 2 was slightly longer, 15 instead of 10 episodes for example.
So I finished arcane and…. I have. Some Thoughts.
I don’t get why Jinx had to die. Could they really not think of anything better? It’s not even that satisfying of a death. I know it’s a war and that means sacrifice but why Jinx? Why did Vi just seemingly let it go? Like I can understand Jayce and Viktor’s deaths because they were saving the day and that’s something that makes sense that they can’t come back from. But Jinx? Jinx?? Genuinely why her? I was enjoying the season finale and despite some of the more bigger flaws this season, I could forgive them because there was more good to outweigh the bad. But Jinx’s death just soiled all of that for me.
Overall I am generally satisfied with the show. Everything was done pretty well, I’m happy with most of the characters and their arcs. Jinx’s death just sorta ruins everything with how unsatisfying and undeserving it feels.
I saw someone point out that everything Jinx goes through is just misery porn at this point and unfortunately I kinda have to agree. I was holding out hope that despite everything she could get her happy ending with her sister but nope. Just a worthless sacrifice. They could’ve at least given her a statue or something. Something to recognize her importance to Vi and others. But no. Just Vi and Caitlyn with their ‘happy’ ending.
I also feel like the writers cared more about caitvi than Vi herself. Jinx’s her world. She was the only thing that kept Vi going in prison. But now she just gets to have Caitlyn and just move on from Jinx like it’s nothing. This was also an issue in the previous acts. I still ship caitvi but… eugh, just let Vi be happy with Cait and Jinx, is it really that hard??
I guess I’ll end this with some positives because, once again, there was a lot that I did like.
Mylo’s fuckass moustache was funny
We got sesbian lex, hell yeah
Ekko’s alternate universe was cute
The timebomb kiss was cute
I loved cosmic Viktor
Jayce and Viktor’s ending was pretty cool, wished they kissed almost but I’ll accept the forehead touch
Cool that Mel has powers, I was getting unsure about her because I was struggling to justify her involvement this season, but I do like how she was in the final act
The final goodbye between Viktor and Sky was nice
I’m glad that Orianna got revived even if we only saw her for a second
Loved Ekko’s time powers/z drive, also love that he was the one to save the day
Sevika being a part of the new council is cool
Well I think this is all decently out of my system. I’m gonna make memes and read fix it fics to cope now.
Rating/Warning: Explicit, referenced ED, child ab*se, physical vi*lence, Domestic vi*lence
Chapter Count: 12/?
Description:
Eddie knows he hasn’t got a chance in hell with Chrissy, but God, what he would give to just try.
So yeah, he takes a moment. Inhales deeply, tasting the cold in the air, listening to the snow melt drip from trees. Last chance, Munson, he thinks.
He’s going to be gone after he graduates. What the fuck does he have to lose? Maybe he misses the mark completely and she never speaks to him again…but how will that be any different than the current status quo? It’ll be a few more months of desperate, angst ridden pining, and then – well, then he’ll never see her again.
How the hell is he supposed to live with himself if he doesn’t even try?
Harvard in the Center of More Legal Challenges?
By Ayishat Shadare, University of Chicago Class of 2025
July 10, 2023
In line with the widely held presumption that the Supreme Court would strike down affirmative action, the Supreme Court ruled that “colleges can't explicitly consider applicants' race in admissions” on June 29th[1]. The ruling was 6-3 along ideological lines as the six-justice conservative majority ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in both cases and the three liberal justices dissenting [2]. It’s important to note that Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson recused herself from consideration on the Harvard case due her conflict of interest being on Harvard’s Board of Overseers[1].
In response to this landmark decision, many are looking to challenge other aspects of the college admissions process that seem to unjustly advantage or disadvantage certain applicants based on a certain characteristic. One of these challenges is to legacy admissions which benefits the family members of alumni through significantly higher than average admit rates. Different universities have differing qualifications for legacy admissions with the most common considering children of undergraduate alumni for legacy status, but this criteria can extend to extended family as well in some institutions [3]. Despite this, legacy admissions is widespread in elite institutions with over 40% of private universities participating in this practice[4].
Another motivation to challenge legacy admissions is to help promote diversity through an alternative method in the face of the affirmative action ruling banning colleges from doing so in traditional ways. Legacy applicants are majority white and upper-class and these students receive preferential treatment that reinforces a student body that is also primarily white and upper-class[5].
Several minority and civil rights advocacy groups are joining together to bring a case against Harvard University, notably one of the defendants in the recent affirmative action case, in which they allege that the school is being discriminatory in their legacy admission practice by “giving preferential treatment to children of wealthy donors and alumni”[6]. The Lawyers for Civil Rights group is filing on behalf of the African Community Economic Development of New England, The Chica Project, and the Greater Boston Latino Network, and they argue that in addition to legacy admissions deprioritizing merit-based admissions, the practice is unlawfully racially discriminatory and a Title VI violation. Title VI requires that universities who receive federal funding must “ensure that its programs do not use criteria that disproportionately and unjustifiably exclude applicants in protected classes, such as people of color”[7].
Looking at Harvard, legacy admissions is exceptionally prominent in their overall admissions process and overall class makeup as “almost half of the university's white students were recruited athletes, related to alumni, children of faculty and staff or were ‘of special importance to the dean of admissions’” with this privileged group being over 74% white[8]. This advantage is further illustrated by the fact that “candidates in these categories also make up less than 5% of applicants to Harvard but constitute around 30% of admitted students,” a fact asserted by Justice Sotomayor in her dissenting opinion on the affirmative case[8].
It’s expected for Harvard and other universities to fight this challenge aggressively as legacy admissions are crucial to securing donations that bolster the expansive endowments of several elite private universities[7].
It’s hard to predict the direction of this case as legacy status is not a protected class in the same way race is. This factor may end up limiting the Court’s ability to influence legacy admissions specifically, but it is also likely to face challenges on a legislative front as seen in a Massachusetts bill introduced recently[5].
Lastly, while the legal issue of college admissions criteria is spirited now, due to the Court’s recent ruling, it will likely be years before this challenge results in a significant change to legacy admissions. Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard was originally filed in District Court in 2014, yet the Supreme Court only ruled on it after almost a decade[9]. It’s unclear if this case will travel that far through the courts, or if the Court will choose to hear the case once it reaches them as they have that discretion.
Despite being in its early stages, it’s important to consider this case as a consequence of the recent landmark Supreme Court ruling, as further challenges may be brought against or in favor of this new established precedent. Should this case eventually rise in the courts in the coming years, it may have the potential to drastically shift college admissions and diversity in higher education as well.
