Raising the axe over his head, Scott brought it down hard on the log before him, splitting it evenly with enough force that both halves flew off his chopping block. He stood there for a moment, still breathing heavily. He wasn't sure how much longer he could go before they found him.

He shook his head, putting another small log onto the chopping block and splitting it down the middle with his axe. He slammed the head of the axe into the large stump, gathering the wood and tossing it into a pile before turning to head back into his cabin... pausing in confusion at the small golden lights. "What the hell...?"

And then he was somewhere he didn't recognize. A room of metal. And people he didn't find familiar in the slightest.

Sam blinked, sighing, rubbing his face. He started over towards the man, smiling reassuringly. "Hi. I'm Sam. Can y-"

Scott growled at the man approaching, his eyes turning red, planting his feet in case he needed to fight and defend himself. "Back. Off."

Sam backed away immediately, hands up. "Oooookay. Okay, uh, someone call Mackenzie."

“Okay, okay, okay, okay,” Nova holds up her hands, her eyes bugging out. “Okay, whoa, okay then. Hey, we don’t know what’s going on anymore than you do. Jesus fucking christ...”

Shaking her head, she hits the comms panel. “Kirk to security, send Mackenzie, tell her to bring the others, and let’s try to hurry it up a bit if possible? I don’t want Sam and I to die here and I have a bad feeling about the tension in this room at the moment.”

“Malloy here, I’ll send her over,” Sylvia somehow sounds somewhat amused at that comment. “Do you want more security down there?”

“Given it’s Mackenzie and co we’re after, that might be a bad idea,” Nova answers honestly, glancing to Sam.

“Nova, are you sure--?” Ginger’s voice sounds over the comms because she’s probably standing over Sylvia’s shoulder since her sister is in distress.

“Just get Mackenzie and all down to the transporter, PLEASE,” Nova sighs. “Engineering out.” She clicks off.

Sylvia and Ginger share a look and Sylvia shrugs before opening her communicator. “This is Malloy to Mackenzie. I’d gather your old friends and head down to the transporter room, sweetie, and from the sounds of things, tensions are a little high down there so I’d make it quick.”

"Oh, look, just in time," Lily jokes of the security officer making rounds. "If 'just in time' for the new onboarding wasn't 40 minutes ago and I didn't already have my new officer, anyways."

She's not picking, not really. She's just... trying very, very hard to lighten the mood, to help push past the fact that her new officer had tracked to the ship so quickly because of her demonstrated skills, personal history, and the war. And those facts were giving her serious anxiety, because she definitely personally knew the other.

It wasn't that she thought the other wasn't qualified, far from it. She wasn't far off from her graduation at the academy anyways, so technically speaking it was fine. Just...

Well, she hated the reasons. Plain and simple. Because she hated this war-- why it was happening was like a stab to her heart, and what Lily hated more was it meant many of Rebecca's extended family was about to be called away just when she needed them most. But what else could she do?

Distract herself.

That was all she had.

"Kirk!" She turns her head back to call out. "Come meet the man who finally matches your sister when it comes to nonsense."

Nova snorts at that, stepping away from John when he gives the nod of approval and walking over. "So respectful of the name, Deputy Chief Scott."

"Ach, Ginger Kirk is still just stupid reckless Ginger at the end of the day," Lily's eyes light up, turning to Stiles and adding, "Stiles Malloy, Nova Kirk."

Nova doesn’t even look up from her work at first, barely glancing over the data from the computer and popping on comms. “Transporter to security, send Mackenzie and co, transporter out.” She clicks back off.

As she starts to look up, she begins, “All right, hi, welcome to the Orville, if I could have you just step off the transporterrrrr...”

But seeing the kid standing there Nova completely forgets and abandons the normal script. The poor little cutie looks scared out of her mind. Nova’s heart breaks as the girl sniffles. “Where am I? What’s going on?”

“Oh, sweetie, it’s okay,” Nova answers, going over and reaching out a hand to help the other down. “C’mere, I’ve got you, you’re okay.”

As Sienna Doe tears up, taking the strange woman’s hand and stepping off the thing she’d appeared on, before abruptly “collapsing” into the other’s arms and accepting the hug she’s being given, peaking her face out from the other’s arms a bit, her brain scrambles for a plan. She definitely hadn’t been counting on this happening to her. Not that it was necessarily a first at this point. She just didn’t know why her, why here, why this, why now...

A million “whys” and exactly no interest in dispelling her charm and finding out. Not yet. Not until she has a plan.

Grayson rolls out his neck as he goes to meet Mackenzie, who’d come to find him and some of the others outside Nari’s climate controlled cell. She’d been in for a while, though, so he just knocks on the outside and motions everyone inside on out. “Do we know anything?”

“All I know is, Ginger, Eddie, and I will feel a lot better when we’re out of this area of space," Nova is saying to Sam. “I mean, I know there’s nothing down there, and we’re not going there, and there’s no reason to go down there anyways, but it’s... unnerving, being so close to it.”

She looks up at a familiar sound from the transporter room and then an all too common alarm. “Oh, incoming. Call Lily for me, will ya?” She smiles at him sweetly as she heads to follow up on it.

“So how goes the wedding planning?” Nova leans against the console with a smile. “Because, uh, I know some people you’ve known a good long stint who’re dying to know the details.”

“And when I have invitations, you’ll get them,” James wrinkles his nose and shakes his head back at her. “Right now, our time is entirely absorbed by one S’Chn T’Gai Nicholas Monroe-Haley. Forgive me if wedding planning goes a little slow.”

The engineer scoffs lightly before kneeling down under the console to continue working. “Hmm, I think I see what you were talking about with the power relays.”

“Told you so,” James remarks, leaning against the wall. “Thanks for your help, Nova.”

“Thank you for pointing this out, honestly,” she answers with a smile. “Pretty crucial shit to know, y’know, with the Borg threat rising and the Kaylon at large. Guess that’s why we have a weapons specialist aboard.”

“Guess so,” he wrinkles his nose as she climbs back out. “Now what?”

“I’m gonna need more tools for this, my stuff’s in engineering if you want to join me.”

“Yeah, sure, I’m responsible for making sure this mess gets straightened out anyways. Might as well pretend I’m useful.”

Nova laughs at that and the two head back to engineering...

“...an’, lass, from sickbay we’ll figure this ou’ as we go. Yer takin’ it all mighty well,” Lily’s saying to a girl who’s standing just beyond the transporter.

“Well, it’s all right, honestly. Could be worse, could be a...”

The girl looks up at the doors opening, seeing him, registering his face in half a glance, scowling. “GRIMM!”

“Uh-oh,” James manages before he’s tackled to the ground.

Sam ran over to Nova, scooping her up and holding her close, dropping to his knees. He looked over at Kyla, sighing softly, just holding onto Nova.

Aphrodite hurried towards Iris with the children, looking around for her own mother as she did. She didn’t see her. Was she with Nick? She hoped she was with Nick.

Alfonso opened his eyes slowly, relaxing a bit. “Thanks, Eve.” He rubbed his eyes, mumbling. “That hurt. Note to self… avoid rocks.”

Celestia blinked, letting herself be pulled into a hug but doing nothing in response. She didn’t understand this quite yet, but she knew it to be a form of affection. So she didn’t fight, just letting herself be held.

Starla looked up. “WYNN?!” She grabbed Lily’s hand, taking off towards the voice, grabbing onto Wynn when they finally found him. “Have you seen Arthur? Where’s your brother?”

“I’m over here!” Arthur called, going over, wrapping his arms around them all.

Nova yelps, sighing, relaxing into Sam's embrace and cuddling into him.

Iris reaches up for Isadora as Aphrodite brings her over. "Thank you." She holds her daughter close, reaching for Reneé's hand and looking for Dahlia, waving her over when she spots her.

Victoria frowns at her brother and leans into Ed quietly.

Claire pulls back, checking each of the kids. "Are you okay? Is anybody hurt?" She sighs, kissing each of their heads and then pressing a kiss against Isaac's head, leaving a lipstick print.

Wynn relaxes and rushes to meet them, grabbing onto them both. Lily breathes hard, looking up to yell for Arthur when he comes over and she relaxes.

Kelly sighs. "Okay, okay, people, does anyone know what the hell is going on here?!"

Nick pales as something occurs to him. "Nari!" He sniffs the air and goes rushing for her. "Move, move, out of the way--!"

"I might have an idea," Willa tries to tell Kelly but she's drowned out by the noise in the crowd.

L-018 grumbled, but nodded, standing down. Her skin returned to flesh. She crossed her arms and stepped forward. “Me. I’ll go next. Let’s get this over with.”

Scott nodded and went over to Hannah, sitting on her desk, smiling at her.

Sam smiled a little at Kyla. “You did pretty good at handling that.”

Mackenzie laughed. She cuddled up against him more, sniffling, taking a deep breath. She closed her eyes. “I’m a bad person…”

Ginger smiles gently. She knows right now the kid needs to ground herself, needs to feel something familiar, and Dr. Finn can yell at her after this if it doesn't go well, oh well. "Sure, go on, it's fine."

Elaine nods as she holds up the tricorder. "All right, and the splice that made you?" She's already going ahead and scanning her in, but she... definitely needs a baseline of some kind for these readings. "...because by the prophets, I'll never guess from this reading."

Hannah smiles happily at him... continuing to spin in her chair like a child.

Kyla crosses her arms and looks at Sam, not really sure what to make of him or the girl hanging off of him. "And...?"

"We've seen a lot of reactions when people from your universe arrive here," Nova explains with a chuckle. "We're usually the engineers on duty when the transporter picks someone up."

"Ookay...?"

James sighs and snuggles her, shaking his head. "You're a mother. And a damn good one. You had every right to be absolutely furious with them. I was mad, too."

The son of a bitch that got their sister walked. Because of the damn law. When the hell had either of them ever paid any mind to the damn law? Willa grabs Jess’ shoulder and squeezes it gently, sighing and rubbing her back and looking back at them, clearing her throat.

Nope. Don’t have emotions in front of strangers. She shrugs and eyeballs each one of them and smirks. “Could be worse.”

Nova’s face scrunches up. “Ooookay, someone else tell me I just briefly lost my mind.”

“You’ll get used to it,” Jess mutters darkly.

She took a shaky breath, shaking her head weakly. “I’m… I’m sorry, I can’t. I can’t. Not yet.” Mal trilled quietly, nuzzling her mom’s cheek gently, nodding slightly.

Tayen rolled her eyes, lightly elbowing her dad. “Behave,” she chuckled, wrinkling her nose at him.

“Here, hang on, let me help,” Levi said, carefully scooping Jackie up, nodding to T'Laith.

Brynn shook her head. She wanted to hold on, to feel safe, but it was too much, her skin was burning- She abruptly pulled away, shuddering, shaking out her arms. “I’m- I’m sorry- I can’t- I can’t-”

Sam laughed softly, shaking his head. “Ah, yes.” He looked down at Ginger and held his hands out to her. “C'mon, up, drama queen.”

Starla jumped a bit, looking over at Lily. She smiled weakly. But she stayed silent, because what could she even say? How many of them would even be able to look at her after this? She had the face of a monster, a murderer…

“Shit, Fergus,” Audrey sighed, grabbing Will’s hand and dragging him after her as she searched for the other Klingon. He’d been struggling, since the war, at keeping in control, and this wouldn’t help at all-

“Fergus!” She ran up to him, holding up her hand. “Hey, hey, are you okay?”

Fergus paused, looking around, processing everything. “… actually… yes.”

Spock nods understandingly. “Then, perhaps we should rejoin the remainder of the family. It would seem Jacklynn has much to talk about.”

“When she’s talking again,” Rebecca murmurs a bit at that, glancing back again.

“You’re telling me to behave?! Michael just threw a rock at my head!!” Sybok sets his hands on his hips and wrinkles his nose back at his daughter.

T’Laith nods back to him and glances around at the family spread out, pausing a moment.

Sylvia holds up a finger. “I got this.” She takes a moment and lets out a shrill whistle. “If the rest of this family wants to get any answers, get the fuck over here, guys!”

Rebecca snorts. “That’s Aunt Sylvia, all right. C’mon.”

James nods understandingly to Brynn, holding Aida still, looking up and motioning the girls to the family.

Ginger pouts. “I am not dramatic, I’m injured. Put a little respect on it.”

“You’re a security officer,” Nova rolls her eyes at her sister.

Ginger frowns and reaches up for Sam’s help, taking ahold of his hands and getting up slowly.

Lily squeezes Starla’s hand. “Lass, she isn’t you. Okay?”

Will lets out a startled little “mleh?!” at being grabbed and dragged over to Fergus but quickly pulls himself together and follows her over, looking worried when she addresses him, pausing at the answer. “Are you sure? This was...”

He shudders.

And to make matters worse, this is with him disregarding his little sister in the brig of the Orville, because she’d helped Valeris with all of this.

Aida looked around carefully, then ducked into where a little tube tunnel let out, going as quickly and quietly as she could. And since she was short, she could practically sprint and still be quiet. She had to find him.

She had to.

She skidded to a stop at the end of the tube, listening for people outside before stepping out silently, looking around. “Grayson? Grayson, I know you’re here. It’s Aida.”

Nova sighs, running a hand through her hair. “Yeah. Can’t even begin to imagine what they’re going through.”

Grayson looks up. Perfect. Just what he needed. Sniffling a bit, he turns himself visible again, but doesn’t turn corporeal, not yet, just staying where he is and curling up more, putting his head down again and crying softly. She’s here to yell at him, no doubt. To yell and cry and tell him off for his flaws, for how wrong he is.

Starla and Audrey looked at each other, nodding. Starla smiled softly. “So… angel?”

Hale nodded and grinned. “Yeah!”

“Well, this will be fun,” Audrey sighed, chuckling.

Angel, Ginger mouths to Ed and Kelly with a nod as the boy goes on a tangent, but smirks and looks back at him. “Well, that’s about what she thinks of Him, too. She’s very proud of that story, she’s kind of my unofficial older sister so believe me I’ve heard it a few times now.”

“I will say,” Nova remarks with a shrug, “That while I absolutely agree with what she did and I don’t for a second defend the Bastard, I will say it wasn’t in His favor that she knows how to shield her mind from anyone or anything that attempts to read it without her express permission. He never got the chance to find out what she was capable of beforehand.”

“That’s what makes it so great!!” Ginger laughs. “Okay, sorry, okay, back on track, welcome to the Orville, Hale. We’d better get you figured out within what’s now your new home in the multiverse.”

“Would it be a waste of time to do an onboarding scan?” Ed frowns, still confused.

“We’re still required to do one, regardless,” Kelly shakes her head slightly and rolls her eyes.

Nova sighs, scooting some stools out of the way so she can get around to his other side and kneel as well. "Oh, dear. I'd ask what you learned, but you're you." She gingerly checks his face over better.

Perry inhales a sharp breath when she watches him fall, wincing a bit herself. Glancing to Nova, she nods a little. "We shall."

She makes her way over to him, gingerly moving some of the stools nearest to him so she can kneel down next to him. "On a scale of one to ten, how bad's it hurt?"

Stiles whimpers a bit and pouts up at them both. As far as he can tell, nothing is broken or too severely injured, but God, it hurt like hell. Taking a deep breath, and only wincing slightly, he pulls himself more together. "Probably like a four. I can walk it off, just give me a minute."
