Shoutout Kimberley Chamber for putting on last night's all-candidates forum (pic1) — it was big city proper (great questions, well-moderated) and small town polite (speakers stopped talking at the sound of the bell, the audience applauded at the end of EVERYONE's talk time, everybody was quite agreeable)… which made for a nice way to get to know the candidates better (also shoutout to the good batch of candidates) 👏
If you weren't one of the 70-ish people at the forum last night BUT would still like to hear what questions were asked and what each candidate had to say (or whether there were any mic difficulties and whether those were resolved), I believe the chamber has posted a recording of the full event over on their Instagram page 👍
And don't forget that the #KimberleyBC By-Election, where locals will choose one (1) new city councillor for the next two (2) years, is happening VERY soon (ie. advanced voting is on September 11th + 18th, and the final General Voting Day is September 21st; with voting taking place @ Centennial Hall, from 8am to 8pm each day… more voting details HERE) 🗳
Personally, I'll be waiting to vote until the last day, partly because I'm a long-time procrastinator, but also partly because I want to see if any more candidates send back answers to my 'MEET A LOCAL CANDIDATE Q&A' questions 🙃
In unrelated/related news (pic2): while doing my (previously mentioned) 'blogging exploratory committee' during this upcoming #LocalAreaElectionSeason, I'll be messing about with a poor man's version of the old "THE 95EH EVENTS CALENDAR" (which can still be found by typing out the url "MOUN.TOWN/EVENTS").
In layman's terms, I have embedded a basic b*tch Google Calendar of dang near all the happenings happening in the Kimberley & Cranbrook area over on moun.town/events (ie. a stripped-down version of an old 95EH utility) — SO — if you ever find yourself wondering about what's going on in the local highway 95/A area, you might want to remember that you can once again try checking out that locally-sourced resource (at least for the next little while), eh?

Updated: Got questions about voting in Colorado? We’ve got answers.
#votebymail☑️ 📦 🗳
more news https://northdenvernews.com
This Q&A for Colorado voters will be updated weekly.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, but registered voters in Colorado will receive mail-in ballots after Oct. 9. With national concern about the veracity of mail-in ballots, Colorado has become a focal point. Colorado began statewide vote by mail in 2013, although some counties used it before that.
Voters and potential voters will have questions about how voter registration works, how mail-in ballots work, how ballots are counted and more. The Colorado News Collaborative and its members want to answer those questions.
Here’s this week’s big question:
Do I have to request a ballot from my county clerk or the Secretary of State?
Not if you’re an active registered voter. County clerks automatically will begin mailing ballots to active registered voters on Oct. 9. A voter is considered active if they’ve voted in the most recent general elections or updated their address or other registration information
A recent nationwide mailer from the U.S. Postal Service insinuates that voters must request mail-in or absentee ballots. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold is suing the Postal Service, saying the mailer is misleading and could disenfranchise voters.
U.S. District Judge William J. Martinez issued an order late Saturday to halt the mailings, and the Postal Service asked that he reconsider the order on Sunday. Martinez declined to do so Monday. The Postal Service said it already delivered 75% of the mailers.
Find out if you’re registered at GoVoteColorado. And get your county elections office information.
Have a question we haven’t answered yet? Submit it here.
Read on for more information.
Voting
What if I’ve moved?
This link also will allow you to change your address.
What if my name changed?
You’ll need to fill out this form and take it to your county clerk or mail it to the Colorado Secretary of State.
What’s the difference between an “active” voter and an “inactive” voter?
As mentioned above, a voter is considered active if they’ve voted in the most recent elections or updated their address or other registration information. A voter is considered inactive if their county clerk receives returned mail to them marked “undeliverable.”
Under federal law, clerks must wait two general election cycles before removing inactive voters from the database. Again, you may check GoVoteColorado to see if your registration is active and update your information if it isn’t.
How long do I have to register?
You must register by Oct. 26 to get a ballot in the mail (but you’ll need to return it to a vote center or drop box). But you may register and vote in person at vote centers through 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.
Ballots
When will I get my ballot in the mail?
The first day ballots may be mailed is Oct. 9, a Friday, and they must be sent out by Oct. 16 at the latest. Check with your county clerk’s office for information on when they will send out mail ballots.
How do I know if my ballot was received?
Voters statewide may sign up to track your ballot online. You’ll get notifications via email, text message or phone (you may choose) when your ballot is mailed, and when it has been received and accepted. A dozen Colorado counties already offered ballot tracking, so if you’re already signed up, there’s no need to do it again.
What if I don’t get my ballot?
Check GoVoteColorado to see if your ballot has been mailed. If it has been mailed and you haven’t received it, contact your county clerk’s office and ask. Not every county will send ballots out the first day possible. But they need to hear from you if you don’t receive yours.
How do I return my ballot?
Ballots must arrive at a vote center or county clerk’s office by 7 p.m. Nov. 3. You may mail your ballot back, if there’s enough time for it to arrive. You may also deliver it to drop boxes at your county clerk’s office or other locations in your county. Beginning Oct. 19, you may deliver it to voter centers staffed by election workers. About 75% of Colorado voters return their mail ballots to drop boxes, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
Are drop boxes safe from tampering?
Yes, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. They are under 24-hour video surveillance and are emptied every day by a team of bipartisan election judges. The sturdy, metal boxes are bolted to the ground.
If I send my ballot back by mail, will it get there?
The Secretary of State recommends delivering ballots in person in the final eight days before the election. If you mail them before that, they should arrive in time.
I don’t want to vote by mail. I want to vote in person.
Colorado will open about 330 vote centers beginning Oct. 19. You may vote there in person starting then through 7 p.m. Election Day with some limited weekend hours.

Ocasio-Cortez Shows How Politicians Can Become Instagram Stars
Who says Instagram is only for celebrities, influencers, businesses, and selfie lovers? Years ago, nobody would have thought that Instagram would become a stage for politicians. Make no mistake; Instagram and other social media sites are not only for elections and campaigns. Nowadays, many government officials are utilizing online platforms to reach out to their constituents on a daily basis, albeit in different ways. This just shows that having a significant social media presence is now expected among political figures.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Instagram
Take Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as an example. Followers have been watching her journey since she announced her congressional bid in April 2017. At 29 years of age, the Democrat representative from New York is the youngest woman ever elected to the US Congress. If you take a look at her Instagram account—she has 3.2 million followers—you would see how good she is at connecting with her followers and how she adapts the platform to showcase different sides of her personal and political life.
There were light moments, like her Q&A livestream session which she conducted in November 2018, three days after she was elected. That time, she was preparing mac and cheese while chatting with 600,000 people online.
Thanks to everyone who joined me last night for my first Instagram Live Cook + Q&A!
It was great answering questions casual and political alike from constituents and supporters across the country.
See you next time! https://t.co/j1GZIfsqEt
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 10, 2018
There are also occasions that Ocasio-Cortez showed people a glimpse of her job, like those Instagram Stories when she attended a congressional orientation. She showed behind-the-scenes shots of her meeting fellow neophyte representatives, joking about secret undergrounds and the new member directory, and showing her “swag bag” of secure devices.
While the quality of these videos isn’t that good (they’re being recorded with a phone’s front camera), it gives the whole thing an authentic feel. Furthermore, Ocasio-Cortez exerted effort to ensure her videos can reach a wider audience. She used a closed-captioning tool to make videos accessible to deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
Ocasio-Cortez is an elected official, so it’s no surprise that she utilizes Instagram to get people involved in the political process. In this post, she urged people to vote in the primaries in New York.

NEW YORKERS: Read this post! ⬇️ . TOMORROW is a very important Primary Election Day! 🗳 If YOU have never voted in a Primary before, I’m talking to you. The most impactful decision a person can make for our community is to choose to vote when they ordinarily wouldn’t have voted. That’s because pollsters don’t EXPECT young people, people of color, and working class people to turn out to vote – so when we do, it changes the game. Here’s how to do it: . 1. Find out where you vote: visit nyc.pollsitelocator.com/search – it’s usually a spot pretty close to where you live. . 2. Pull out your phone calendar and FIND WHEN in the day you’re going to vote. MAKE AN ALARM/EVENT/whatever. Before work is your best shot. I know it’s annoying to wake up early, but we’ve got to save the country. Plus that post-vote glow is great and you get a sticker and everything. If I got a sticker every time I went to the gym maybe I’d go more often too 😂 . 3. VOTE TOMORROW AND BRING A FRIEND. I may have my list of endorsed candidates (see below), but honestly so long as you vote that’s the most important thing. Do your research and decide. . 4. SOCIAL! It’s totally okay to brag that you voted on IG, Twitter, Facebook, etc – even if you don’t want to say for whom! When people see that their friends, family & neighbors are voting, sometimes that’s the nudge or reminder they need to head to the polls themselves. . 5. Last but not least: HAVE FUN & STAY INVOLVED. Sometimes people say “politicians only come around when they want a vote.” For many that’s true, but there’s also a lot of officials out there doing the work but WE need to also check out our community boards, civic associations, grassroots activism, etc to hold up our end of the bargain and pay attention to what’s happening in our own backyard. . 💜💜💜 Get out there and VOTE TOMORROW, Thurs 9/13! . Our endorsed candidates (they have ALL rejected Corporate Lobbyist 💰): State Sen: @biaggi4ny (BX), @salazarforsenate (BK), @barkan4ny (BK) Attorney General: @zephyrteachout Lt. Gov: @jumaane.williams Gov: @cynthiaenixon . (There are LOTS MORE amazing candidates out there, this doesn’t mean they are the only good ones)!

Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the only politician on Instagram
Ocasio-Cortez is not alone on Instagram; Senator Ted Cruz of Texas also uses the platform. With roughly 380,000 followers, he is the top Instagrammer among Republican officials, but he still lags behind Ocasio-Cortez. Moreover, Cruz’s page seems distant and doesn’t evoke the same authentic feel of Ocasio-Cortez’s page.

Yesterday while surveying flood damage visiting my fellow Texans, I met a football coach from Marble Falls ISD, who I can attest is a true embodiment of Texas’ can-do spirit. In the face of disaster he remains resilient & a supporter to his fellow Texans in need. #texanshelpingtexans
A post shared by Ted Cruz (@sentedcruz) on Oct 18, 2018 at 6:24am PDT
According to a New York Time’s analysis, Instagram accounts of Democrats generally command more presence than those of their Republican counterparts. The reason? If you look at the demographics of Instagram users, the platform is dominated by younger users like Democratic voters.
What Ocasio-Cortez shows about Instagram and politics
Not a lot of politicians know how to capitalize on social media. Before, Instagram and other online platforms were just a one-way channel for politicians to broadcast their policies, not a place to interact with their constituents. We now know that it must be a two-way conversation.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BjEGBHhlkWJ/ Ocasio-Cortez’s use of Instagram provides a good case of how anyone—politician, business, or ordinary citizen—can utilize the Instagram platform to get more likes and followers. If people learn the necessary social media skills, they will be able to boost their Instagram accounts and get more engagement. In the end, they can gain more opportunities they can take advantage of and get that competitive advantage in their field.

FROM NOW ON I SHALL ONLY THINK ABT ATSUMU WITH A CORGI 💀💀 samu definitely laughs at him for fighting with the dog lmaoo
