⋆⠀⠀&.⠀⠀٬⠀⠀(⠀⠀ARSENIC.⠀⠀)⠀...⠀is the first full album (lp) by south korean girl group, letalis. the album was released in both digital and physical form by south korean entertainment company, apricus culture on october 29, 2014.
the album was supported by performances of the title track, "POISON" and two additional promotional singles, "FOR THE THRILL" and "CHECK IT". as the group's first full-length album, ARSENIC received mixed reviews despite its overwhelming commercial success. the group promoted the album for a total of five weeks through music show performances, two seoul concerts, five fanmeetings, and several variety show appearances. the album's title track, "POISON" received a total of 8 music show wins while "CHECK IT" amassed 2 towards the later end of promotions.
despite the album's popularity, critics published mostly lukewarm reviews of the album. most prominently, a common critique was the "repetitive" sentiment shared by critics in both korea and abroad. despite critical favorites "REBOUND", "CHECK IT", "LOVE/OR", and "BAD GIRL" receiving praise for the involvement of contributing members naryun, jiseo, and melanie, other songs were heavily criticized for their recurring themes, genres, and structure. regardless, the group's fanbase would propel the album and its promotional singles onto the gaon and billboard global charts, solidifying the "bread and butter" of letalis' musical character.

ㅤ*ㅤSECTION THREEㅤ:ㅤthe styling.
sticking to the general idea of their previous era, the members each had a personal hand in their own looks. each stage built off the individual tastes of each member while holding on to their cohesiveness. easily one of their most identifiable eras solely off the styling.
ㅤ*ㅤSECTION FOURㅤ:ㅤthe notes.
a fan favorite era
one of their more iconic albums, def a top three vitalis staple album
people either loved or hated this era (including the girls themselves). there were a lot of mixed reviews among critics and it wasn't secret to the girls.
weird animosity between emmy and juniper starts here. no one really knows why but they were regularly exchanging not-so nice words about each other to anyone who cared enough to listen.
one of their encore stages went viral after they used voice changing microphones with shuffled effects (entirely emmy's idea). still one of the highest viewed encores of all time, a letalis fandom staple video as well. several members were in tears from laughter (emmy, jiseo, naryun) while others were completely stoic (naira, juniper). ironically, this video pretty much sums up their public dymanic pretty well.
lots of controversy surrounding the tracks on the album. towards the end of the promotional period, the girls were visibly tired of performing "for the thrill" which was unanimously voted in a fan poll posted to melanie's fancafe as being the fans' least favorite b-side off the album.
despite how well the title track, "poison" did, some of the girls voiced their varying opinions on what they would chosen instead. snowballed into a weird scandal where they were accused of suffering from "celebrity disease". never ended up being addressed but apricus did tighten the reigns on what the girls were allowed to say/bring up during the rest of the promotions.
the true beginning of the core writers and producers that usually appear on letalis albums. also the beginning of the naryun and trenton rumors (that would eventually be entirely true). it wasn't lost on the public that letalis was gonna stick to what works so these same writers and producers in different arrangement are a staple to their discography.
miss. me randomly went viral in 2020 around the time challenges became a regular occurrence. so in between the challenges for the album they were promoting at the time, they were suffering through doing cute little hand choreo for the song.
naryun, melanie, and emmy gained their first credits on this album!
announced their first asian tour after the end of promotions. cute little 15-show tour, mostly in large theaters and arenas, nothing crazy but a precious memory for all the girls.

⋆⠀⠀&.⠀⠀٬⠀⠀(⠀⠀CALL YOU MINE.⠀⠀)⠀...⠀is the second extended play (ep) by south korean girl group, letalis. the album was released in both digital and physical form by south korean entertainment company, apricus culture on march 18, 2014.
the album was supported by performances of the title track, "I GOT A BOY" and the promotional single, "DARLING". the group's second release received massive attention from the group's growing fanbase and garnered critical praise for their vocal improvements from their first release. commercially, call you mine debuted at number two on the gaon album chart, highlighted in a highly publicized fandom war. "I GOT A BOY" was praised critically for its eclectic production and international appeal. the single itself peaked at number three on the us world digital chart, marking their first introduction to the american market. the music video for "i got a boy" won the award for video of the year at the first youtube awards in 2013, generating the first signs of an american fanbase for the group.
in terms of critical reception, the album performed noticeably better among musical critics than their debut album. billboard columnist, evie lowe, noted that the song displayed the group's promising potential with "gleeful chaos" that "set the bar high for pop music in 2014". the group's choreography for the title track also created a small dance craze among korean adolescents and is regarded as being a continued domestic favorite. averaging a 4.5/5, the album has stood to be one of the group's most successful.

ㅤ*ㅤSECTION THREEㅤ:ㅤthe styling.
they walked around like they were the shit and at the time they really were. their styling team really invested in designer brands like obey, adidas by jeremy scott, and joyrich, to push their look between trendy and individual. each member was given a unique twist to the group look that managed to solidify the styling trends stylists would continue to stick to as a staple of the letalis branding.
ㅤ*ㅤSECTION FOURㅤ:ㅤthe notes.
this era eats in every way, i'm so serious.
a fan favorite album and title. everything about this era is solidified in letalis history books and learning every word to the songs on this album is like a vitalis prereq.
the teaser videos from this era kind of generated lore rumors which was different for apricus which is usually pretty upfront about if their groups have a universe of lore/storyline or not. letalis didn't overtly debut with one and apricus didn't address the murmurs of a storyline.
the teasers were released through 15 second member concept films. each begins with an echo of a different snippet of the track, in & out before cutting to a flashing sign with different words for each member: young, work, duty, vow, adore, loyal, and want.
fan theories kind of spun out of control only for the music video to never reference any of these themes. all of these ideas were noticed to be talked about within the songs and fans were largely pulled into the group through the discussion of these topics through the album's lyrical contents.
there's video essays left over on youtube from this era. it's kind of fun to see how far off everyone was when predicting the future lore that would come to define the group.
some of the girls allegedly may have hinted at what the teasers meant. they all deny they've ever said anything about them and actively avoid talking about lore and fan theories to this day.
intense choreo returns and somehow gets more intense?
emmy gained her first choreography credit in the description box of the uploaded music video, beginning the tradition of a member of the dance line participating in title track choreography.
they went viral amongst the general public for not just the catchy and edginess of 'i got a boy' but also for their live vocals after they sang on a radio show. melanie and sienna in particular got a lot of praise for carrying the more emotional vocals on the more technically advanced tracks.
as for the members relationships, this era was kinda smooth sailing which is probably why it's one of their most successful. they didn't argue much (publicly at least) and were all just excited to be gaining their popularity and recognition of their talent.
styling was a huge point of this era. we saw the beginnings of their individual styles being blended into their group identities.
hair also became a big deal. melanie dyed her hair its signature blonde this era with a striking honey blonde initiating the era. emmy's hair was chopped for the first time and heri gets her staple 70s big hair.
this era was also the start of their longest running youtube series: lethal doses. the series follows a different member in a vlog style of filming as they talk through their thoughts about the album, performances, and activities while being styled for the day.
the first episode in the series follows naira as the group's leader. it created the infamous fandom joke about emmy needing her bangs to hide her creases on her forehead from getting upset at rehearsals.
positions were finalized this era and melanie was officially handed the center and face positions and no one was shocked.

⋆⠀⠀&.⠀⠀٬⠀⠀(⠀⠀EVASION.⠀⠀)⠀...⠀is the debut extended play (ep) by south korean girl group, letalis. the album was released in both digital and physical form by south korean entertainment company, apricus culture upon the group's debut on november 3, 2013.
the album was supported by performances of the title track, "evasive" and two additional promotional singles, "over u" and "baby, baby". the group's debut album received immediate commercial success despite wavering critical support. commercially, evasion debuted at number one on the gaon album chart in south korea, remaining there for a record-breaking six weeks. "evasive" received recognition as the second best-charting song in south korea during 2013. as of july 2023, the album has sold over a million copies.
in terms of critical reception, the album struggled to amass unanimous consensus on the quality of the album as a whole. most notably, well-known musical critic lee myungki was heavily critical of the album calling it, "a mess of feminist catchphrases thrown over empty computer beats." lee would continue to be critical of the group's future releases until his retirement in 2019. while most critics echoed his opinion, the title track, "evasive" and promotional single "baby, baby" were widely regarded as the best songs to grace the album.

ㅤ*ㅤSECTION THREEㅤ:ㅤthe styling.
they definitely got the second-gen treatment. although there weren't any genuinely horrific styling moments there are some questionable choices. this was before apricus decided to assign specialized styling teams to each group so fans quickly noticed recycled outfits between letalis and their predecessor girl groups.
ㅤ*ㅤSECTION FOURㅤ:ㅤthe notes.
and everyone applauded.
apricus was battling misogyny allegations and debuted a girl group with unabashed feminists in response.
everything about their debut made critics made because it was so different from the "formula" that made previous girl groups popular.
they really leaned into building a majority female fanbase in order to assert their place within the industry and it worked.
face card? yes.
were nicknamed "karin's passion project" immediately because of how similar their lyrics and concept were to the direction of her former group.
the first apricus girl group since 2004 and they did not disappoint.
went viral for their intense choreo.
and their live vocals.
melanie immediately stood out as the group's face though it wouldn't be until after their second album that she would be officially given the title.
all publicity is good publicity so scandals and rumors became synonymous with letalis from the beginning.
biggest scandal? melanie and naira arguing over a hot mic during a commercial break on a variety show.
trended for a few days then will worked his magic and everyone forgot about it.

the album was supported by performances of the title track, "RED" and two additional promotional singles, "CANDY CHERRY APPLE" and "HONEYSLICK". as the group's first whole group release since the 2021 full album, PERSEPHONE, the album received both critical praise and public support. the group promoted the album and its singles for a total of seven weeks through music show performances, two digital concerts, seven fanmeetings, and several variety show appearances. the album's title track received a total of 14 wins over the course of promotions.
critically, RUBY RED, performed exceptionally well receiving an average 9/10 rating across both domestic and international reception. members melanie, emmy, naryun, heri, and elodie also received praise for their involvement in the release at a level previously unseen for the group's members. stand out tracks on the album included: "BITCHIN'", "IL PREDESTINATO", "HONEYSLICK", and "DEARLY DEVOTED" which received attention outside of the fandom for their production and performance.

ㅤ*ㅤSECTION THREEㅤ:ㅤthe styling.
matchy matchy and they ate down. juniper and emmy had a large hand in the design choices this era and teamed up with a design team based out of seoul's sasada fashion school to bring their vision to life. a mix of red denim, black satin, and all oversized. you could really see individual member's personal style choices within the comeback outfits. 10/10.
⠀*⠀SECTION FOUR⠀:⠀the notes.
the girls are back!
streets were saying they were in the dungeon, fans were getting restless, they had to deliver. and they did! truly their best album and it shows in everything from the music to the performances to the content.
the album was kind of a surprise drop in a way. there were whispers of the girls all being back in seoul and meeting with producers and writers. but elodie took to twitter and shot down the rumors. (why? chaos.)
this project had been in works for a little over six months in total because the girls really wanted their comeback to be as perfect as possible. apricus gave them a lot of creative control over what the album sounded like, who they wanted to involve in the project, and even the shows they wanted to go on to promote the return.
the era first began with a tweet with the album name on the group's official account taking fans completely by surprise. then a video teaser of the music video dropped, confirming the comeback date and the expected sound and concept for the era.
ot7 finally in one room for the first time in years and it surprisingly went very well. there wasn't a single scandal circulating this era. (streets say apricus bribed the gossip blogs) they were truly focused on living in the moment and making sure their collective vision came true.
they may not have beat the "letalis hates each other" allegations but they shifted the narrative so major win for vitalis!
went viral for their mr removed videos (which may have been planted by apricus) and their encore stages. their stable vocals kind of took everyone by surprise considering they hadn't performed on stage together since 2021.
the title track tradition continued with naryun creating the choreography for "RED", elodie and heri writing the lyrics, and heri producing.
the first era with their new makeup artist, noemi and social media manager, nathaniel. both were highly involved and very visibly accessible to fans. noemi held rounds of q&a's as well as behind the scenes clips on her social media throughout the album promotions. nathaniel really played into the challenge the group decided on for the era, involving members of other popular groups and international public figures.
melanie went ginger, emmy lost her bangs, the world stopped.
they each were very active on the group's official pages posting get ready with me's and short vlogs. halfway through promotions, they started a series where each girl talked about their favorite part of the project and their hopes for the holiday season. she was cute!
overall just an era of really good vibes and wins for everyone involved!
