Unsaid-Verse Masterpost
Because it’s been a while since I updated it. Because there might be new people around who would like to read it. Because my mind won’t cooperate with me today, so I’m trying to distract it.
So, the Unsaid-Verse: my little coming-back-to-fanfic, post-fete-surprise-baby story that by now has grown into a nearly 140K words long massive AU verse. Romance, fluff, humor, occassional angs galore.
The following list has the stories in chronological order, with early fall of 1879 being the date when Alina arrives at the Little Palace.
Socks Fall 1879 Rated: G Wordcount: 3086 After a chance meeting in the middle of the night in the hallway of the Little Palace, Aleksander invites Alina to the stables to oversee the birth of a foal with him.
Violent Delights February 1880 Rated: E Wordcount: 9767 Aleksander and Alina get intterupted a little later, so they have a nice, passionate lovemaking session before everything goes shit.
Terrible, Beautiful, Unsaid Things February-November 1880 Rated: T Wordcount: 11064 Alina still runs after the fete, and she is still caught, only, in this universe, she is pregnant. Spanning from her escape to the birth of their child, the story chronicles how she and Aleksander find their way back to each other
Thicker Than Water February-November 1880 Rated: M Wordcount: 3585 Alina’s suprise pregnancy brings up bitter memories in Genya, who is determined to help her through it–including giving her the freedom of choice.
Poker Face April-November 1880 Rated: M Wordcount: 11060 (WIP) Aleksander is fighting a war on several fronts: the actual war against Fjerda and Shu Han; to win back Alina’s affections; and to keep the Tsar in line. This last one might be the hardest. Or: Aleksander is showing considerable restraint in not unleashing The Cut on Pyotr Lantsov.
Secret Ingredient July 1880 Rated: G Wordcount: 2735 Alina is missing her mother’s cooking, which at least give Aleksander an opportunity to do a Grand Gesture.
A Person to Call Home Early November, 1880 Rated: T Wordcount: 3439 A few days before Nadya’s birth, Aleksander wakes from a nightmare and seeks out Alina just to reassure himself that she is alright.
The First Star in the Black Velvet Night November 6, 1880 Rated: T Wordcount: 8099 The day Nadya, their child is born, from Aleksander’s point of view.
A Little Star in the Night November 6, 1880 Rated: G Wordcount: 3156 Due to ALina’s weakened state after the labor, a wet nurse is summoned to the Little Palace
Sleepless November 7, 1880 Rated: G Wordcount: 1233 The day after the birth, Alina finds it hard to fall asleep without her daughter nearby
Tales from the Palace November 1880/1882/1887 Rated: T Wordcount: 3685 Collection of one-shots featuring characters peripheral to Alina and Aleksander’s story: a chambermaid, a dressmaker, and a governess.
To Cherish and to Hold October and December, 1880 Rated: E Wordcount: 14429 In Part I, with their relationship slowly blooming again, Alina decides it’s time for her to be intimate with Aleksander again. In Part II, they return to their marital bed after Nadya’s birth.
The Heartrender and the Baby February 1880 - May 1882 Rated: G Wordcount: 5771 Ivan is definitely not a baby person. Then a little Princess has him wrapped around her little finger
Life Unfolds in Chapters Summer of 1882 Rated: E Wordcount: 21463 (so far) The summer after Aleksander and Alina took the throne of Ravka, they go on a royal tour in West Ravka, while facing political and personal challanges
Sister, Sister September 1882 - December 1884 Rated: G Wordcount: 2297 Nadya is a happy little girl who loves her Mama and Papa very much. However, her life turns upside down when she learns that she is going to be a big sister.
The Sweetest Dreams I have of You October 1882 Rated: G Wordcount: 1355 Aleksander catches Alina, pregnant with their second child, taking an afternoon nap.
Infinite Fall 1882 Rated: T Wordcount: 1461 Preparing for the birth of their second child, Alina and Aleksander share their fears and insecurities with each other.
Solstice Eve December 1882 Rated: G Wordcount: 3621 Aleksander has a surprise for his girls for the holiday, starting a new tradition.
Modern Times November 1883 Rated: G Wordcount: 2423 When expresses reluctance towards one of David’s newest inventions, Aleksander is accused of being “set in his ways,” so he goes to desperate lenghts to prove that he can, in fact, handle change.
Private Meeting in the Tsar’s Study November 1884 Rated: E Wordcount: 2992 Aleksander and Alina work on expanding their family–in his office, in the middle of the day.
Witches! 1885 Rated: G Wordcount: 922 After a bad dream, little Nadya seeks her parents’ comfort
Grishenka April 1885 Rated: G Wordcount: 1300 Nadya summons for the first time, and Sasha is conflicted.
David and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Fall of 1885 Rated: G Wordcount: 2101 David is not good with children, that’s a fact. And yet he is tasked to look after Nadya–who is too clever and mischievous for her own good–for a couple of hours. Let’s just say it doesn’t go well.
Just a Tiny Prickle 1886 Rated: T Wordcount: 1819 Nadya wants to have her ears pierced. Her Papa is not thrilled about the idea.
Conquering the Foul Beast Summer of 1889 Rated: G Wordcount: 1920 Being the father of girls means sometimes playing the role of the “foul beast” and being hit on the head with cushions.
A Longing Deep and Profound December 1887 - February 1891 Rated: M Wordcount: 6074 After the birth of their fourth daughter, Aleksander thinks they should not have any more children. Alina is not that convinced.
In a Mirror, Brightly November 1896 Rated: G Wordcount: 1543 Nadya is about to turn sixteen. Aleksander does not handle it well.

Gospel News
Dear friends and members of Fort Lee Gospel Church,
This week the weather is finally warming up in New Jersey. It has felt like a wet and cool Spring until now. While the official start of Summer is in a few weeks, this weekend kicks off the unofficial start of Summer. Here are a few reflections on Summer and Memorial Day:
Summer Season
While some dream of living in a warm climate so they can enjoy summer weather all year long, I prefer to live in a place like New Jersey where we have 4 seasons. Snow is beautiful, for a while. Spring and Fall have their own beauty and appeal. Summer is seen by many as the best time of the year (except Christmas).
We associate Summer with time off school, vacations, days at the beach, outdoor gatherings, and other fun events. It is rightly a season to build memories and take some breaks from work. Here are some biblical thoughts on a season of refreshment:
· Joy is an essential part of our faith.
You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Ps. 16:11)
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever. (Ps. 30:11-12)
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Neh. 8:10)
· Rest is a gift from God.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30)
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. (I Peter 5:10-11)
· We all need renewal:
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Is. 40:29-31)
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. (II Cor. 4:16)
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, (Titus 3:5)
Enjoy your summer season and may you know God’s joy, rest, and renewal!
Memorial Day
Memorial Day remembers all those who have died in military service over the years. Veteran’s Day is the time to honor all who have served in our military.
Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13) While the analogy is not perfect, I do think of this verse on Memorial Day. The ultimate sacrifice was when Jesus went to the cross to die for our sins – the sinless Savior died for us as sinners. Jesus showed ultimate love for us by dying for us.
It is hard to imagine the generation of young men who willingly signed up to fight for our nation in World War II. There were countless stories of men lying about their age so they could go to war. The patriotism shown by that generation was profound. The conviction that they were willing to die for our nation and a just cause drove their patriotism.
I have had the privilege to know many local veterans who served our nation as the VFW has invited me to pray at their events. We are right to honor those who have served and remember those who gave their lives so that we can enjoy our freedoms.
On Monday, May 27th at 10:00 AM there will be a Memorial Day parade in Fort Lee, starting and ending at the Community Center. After the parade there will be a program remembering those who have served and died for our nation. A few of us in the clergy will be a part of the program. Please consider joining us as we honor those who died for our nation.
-Pastor Rick

DOSSIER: OSIAL.
THE BASICS:
NAME: Osial AKA: Overlord of the Vortex, That Which Lies in the Deep ALIAS(ES): Qianfan, Haitao AGE: > 5000 SEXUALITY: Demiromantic Bisexual; Polyam NATION: Liyue LOCATION: Guyun Stone Forest, The Ocean, Xigu Antiques & Liyue Harbour (in some verses) ALLEGIANCES: Himself, Beisht (spouse), tbc.
APPEARANCE:
APPEARANCE GUIDANCE POST. & APPEARANCE GUIDE II. GOD: five-headed hydra made of water. blue in colouration though skin resembles moving water, channels of power flick through the body in the colour of sea foam and white snaps of power. Eyes and markings are a solid white. HUMANOID: A bipedal vessel shaped like a human but bearing elements of his godly self. Vivid cerulean eyes or all white eyes with cerulean speckles, blue hair in the same tone of his godly vessel, streaked with white like seafoam and kept in a braid. Loose fitting clothing to mimic the movement of water. Dancer/Swimmer-like body - tall and lithe but muscular. Post Archon War bears gold scarring from the final fight with Morax, scars crystallised into skin. DISGUISE: (post Liyue AQ): Dark Blue almost black hair, ending in light blue ends (as gods do). Vivid, cerulean eyes and a stern expression. Same body style as his humanoid vessel, but shorter in height in comparison. Wears loose style clothing on outer layers, but wears a form fitting under layer to add pressure to stave off the itch of being crammed into a smaller vessel.
ABILITIES:
SHAPESHIFTING: Osial can shift his form to suit his needs. Unlike Morax he is only able to choose between 3 forms, his godly vessel - the five-headed hydra/leviathan, a bipedal vessel of blue skin that is human-esque but bears traits of his godform (like an inbetween stage) and a human vessel. In his main verse, Osial only has a limited access to the first form and it is weakened due to the events of the Archon Quest, instead primarily remaining in his human form. WATER MANIPULATION: Osial commands the tides and waters of the world. The manipulation strength depends on the abundance of water available, so in the sea he is capable of creating multiple constructs and using the water much more fluidly than he can near a river. He tends to create large tendril like constructs that can be used to lash or restrain, but he can create other things with more concentration. He may also simply churn the waters (and uses this as a trick later to make others spill their drinks when they annoy him). WEATHER MANIPULATION: As the Overlord of the Vortex, Osial has the ability to churn the seas and summon the storm over the waters. At short durations with heavy waves alone this is not costly, but if he wishes to maintain it for longer periods and add waterspouts then it costs him more energy and so he has to use it more sparingly. BOONS: Osial has 3 boons he can grant to loyal followers or those who have earnt his respect as a marking of his approval. See hc for more details. MEMORY PROJECTION: This specific power draws from the lore mentioned in Roald's Diary Vol. 6: "I had the most awful night's sleep last night. I dreamt I was somewhere pitch-black and damp. Suddenly, I was a sea monster, and my impaled body was being driven into the ocean floor by the Geo Archon's polearm. I writhed around and clutched at the giant polearm made of rock, trying desperately to free myself, but it was wedged firmly in place. Each movement I made filled me with agony, and with rage…" While imprisoned beneath Morax's spears, Osial learns to project his memory to those that walk the shores above. It is a process that takes him milennia, and for the most part he can only access those who are in a dream state, but a few who have affinity for his power, who can bear the strain of the divine projection, he can connect more readily. HOST CONTROL: Once the connection is made as per the previous power, Osial has an option to impart part of his soul to another and allow him the freedom to roam, at the cost of being unable to access the most divine of his abilities. He essentially becomes more of a very strong allogene than an ancient god. Depending on who he is possessing he can either suppress the personality (ordinary folk) or become a voice in the back of their mind (allogenes) until they either give in to him or try and break the connection.
NOTABLE POSSESSIONS:
FAKE HYDRO VISION: Osial wears a fake hydro vision pinned to the left side of his jacket in a brooch style. The edging of the vision is silver and it is in traditional Liyue design. Depending on dynamics & verse depends on how he comes upon it, but usually through a connection that he has. BOTTLE OF WATER: At his hip, Osial carries a glass bottle secured in a rope harness that is filled halfway with water from his domain. This became a comfort thing for him pre-Archon War when Morax convinced him from the seas to engage in conversation and see the land of Liyue. Carrying the tides with him on land helps to stem the itch of cramming his full hydra form into a bipedal vessel. He has a slightly different set up in his present day verse, with three vials that are fastened around his upper arm. JEWELLERY: Osial wears a long earring from his right ear, that is silver metal with deep blue tassels hanging from it. He also has a long necklace with a wood carved pendant on that was a gift from Beisht, and a bracelet that he wears on his left wrist made from seaglass, also from her. He has given her matching jewellery.

Sorry i wanted to write like four sentences and a don't know what happend.. but i put in a cut because it got way too long and ventures beyond just how they've met and a bit into lyrics theories of a verse in Higher and Vessel and Sleep and yeah..😅
Of course this is strictly an in lore thing because all of this has a purely human, self reflective read as well but we talking lore here so let me lore-idea-dump all over the place for a sec. I don't think much of it makes sense but i needed a distraction and yeah. So:
sorry for probable typos and grammar mishaps in advance
We know the story with Vessel so there is that. I kinda like the concept of the others beeing seeked out in dreams as well, maybe after something going awry in ther lives or just something sorely missing from it. It may happen on several nights before the probability to follow is solidified in the new potential vessel.
The dream visit happens by Sleep of course, but using Vessel's form because it is a human form so it is not going to be so intimidating because it is familiar.. and also when they actually meet they are not going to be alarmed at the first time because they see someone at least familiar. On the how they meet.. i have no idea.. maybe it's some sort of pull or compulsion to find this dream figure who promised that specific thing they desparate for.
And then they finally meet they finally can understand what is what, Vessel is just well.. Vessel and Sleep is Sleep and they, as new vessels will have a role in all this. May it be additional conduits to a certain degree or just to aid Vessel in his mission for Sleep or other tasks or all at once. And at the beginning everything comes from Sleep essentially but there may be some give-and-take going on actually.
And on the topic of the other vessels having more.. i don't know.. freedom because III can and does talk on stage and with IV in toe they do interact with the crowd a lot. Their original role mayhave been that, strengthening the connection to the live attendees at rituals. II seems so attentive to Vessel when he isn't lost in his instrument that i like to think half his role is to be there for Vessel when he needs a little human support. And then with time the roles are blurring and everyone does a little bit of everything. The roles stop being roles when interpersonal bonds strengthen, and the force keeping them together is not solely Sleep's influence. Or something like that.
But let me go back a bit to Vessel being a vessel because i like that idea and now i have an opportunity to spitball about it for a minute.
Like with powers we saw in Alkaline, i like to think it's not Vessel's either it's just channeled through him or lent in time of need. (i.e. dudes running around with guns) Especially because he is seen alone in the video and i find it a fun idea it is at a time where there isn't that many followers yet and Sleep is not yet strong enough to lend those powers instantly or for longer periods of time, that's why it took fairly long to channel. (Maybe even the place is built upon a ground that was a place of power for Sleep once but that would take me so far from this line of thought so i'll leave that alone for now.)
Also the way it's set up, Vessel sitting virtually motionlessly in a chair? Only his hands moving in a way that almost seems like not his own movements? Yeah it's fun to imagine that is actually Sleep moving his hands in the correct motions to channel the powers. Like in a trance or something.. and it maybe even being taxing and exhausting on a human body so why the sitting position is needed. Or Sleep full on using Vessel as a vessel, coming in as much as possible but unable to confine to a human body properly, so Sleep is unable to corretly control it. Only the handmotions and the sitting position helps not to just flop around the floor. Or trying nkt to control it too much so there is no damage because this vessel is willing and would be a shame to waste it. There is so many readings to this.
I dunno my lore ideas are fairly inconsistent random thoughts floating around in my head. But i'm fond of the idea of Vessel just being.. well just a vessel for Sleep. Not having powers of his own and all just being a highly emotional guy, desparate for.. something which makes perfect for being a conduit for a deity that feeds on strong raw emotions.
I also kinda like the idea of Sleep not being de facto bad but kind of indifferent to what this all is doing to Vessel. Because Sleep is old and sort of forgotten and may have a slight bitterness but.. Sleep is an ancient being, so probably seen the ebb and flow of followers before. Felt his powers waining and strenghtening before.. Sometimes it takes time.
Sometimes it needs a push and a Vessel is chosen to hasten the process. And according to the times and how followers may claimed faster additional vessels are seeked out for helping the main conduit. Or something like that? All in all i find it the most interesting when the vessel's are keeping and embodying the human element in contraposition to Sleep divine. Because for me it is and interesting dynamic.
Something age old looming behind the vessls, not with bad intentions just.. not really understanding what makes a human on a human level but understanding the dreams and fears and desires and all inbetween and beyond.. And sometimes that knwing yet not knowing or impatient indifference even harms the vessels because it feels too much. But also there is an understanding as well. A mutual will to share and create and even help each other in their own ways.
Also i like the idea of a long gone pantheon Sleep was part of. This was single handedly solidified in my brain by one verse of Higher i latched onto for various reasons. But let me indulge in a short.. not analysis but trowing around ideas:
With all that you believe You still refuse to shelter me
'Cause I am a danger and you're
A long way from home you are one among many
But you're now on your own
And I hate the way you look at
Me when I am not understood
'Cause you can remember only
When you're alone I am granting you more than
The debt that I owe
This is such a two ways text because it can be read from the viewpoint of Vessel but also Sleep's. Or both atthe same time. At least for me. Here is my thought process on it:
"With all that you believe You still refuse to shelter me" - They both belive the other is what they need. But on Vessel's part he might feel like Sleep does not gives him what he thinks he want's or needs. On Sleep's part, Vessel might not accepted Sleep in a way Sleep wanted or doesn't go exactly the way about things as Sleep expected at first. So in neither case a "shelter" is created. Not in a way originally imagined. It may and probably did happen anyway just not how it was originally expected by either of them. Because they want kind of the same but in wastly different ways. Sleep needs the safety of having followers, to be knkwn, to be strong again, to be worshipped. Vessel want's something that a human consideres a safe place. So they want the same but not the same. And the human and divine understanding cannot be aligned perfectly. But they try. Doesn't always work, especially on Vessel's end but they still believe the other can do what they agreed on.
"I am a danger" - on Sleep's part it's fairly obvious with the whole ancient being stick. On Vessel's part tho.. he is a danger because the human element always has some unpredictibility to it. It could bring some unforseen sideffects to Sleep's plans and who know how much a once all powerful beeing handles not being in perfect control. Maybe the unknown is scary to Sleep in a way as well in this weakened state. And that gives an edge to Vessel, however small that may be.
"you're a long way from home you are one among many but you're now on your own" - on Vessel's part this could refer to him leaving behind his life, his home to follow Sleep's call. This includes friends, family, esentially transferring from being 'one among many' to 'being on your own' in an unknown situation. Or just simply being a lonely human being who is completely alone no matter how many people are around him because since Sleep came into his life, no one really understands him. I kinda like this second version because of a later line in this verse. On Sleep's part it very well may have been the case that there was or still is a larger pantheon somewhere beyond. And for reasons it shatterred, faded or just some clashing happend or whatever other reason, but Sleep ended up here alone, so much more close to the human world which is very much an unknown to a being that never really experienced humanity in this way but mayhaps only through worship before, from far far away.
"I hate the way you look at me when I am not understood" - on Sleep's part is just that he as a deity, does not communicate in conventional ways and Vessel might not understand correctly what is expected of him at all times. On Vessel's part it can be twofold again. First when he asks, requests or says something of/from Sleep and it's misunderstood or not understood at all because divine-human comprehension can and probably has dissonances. Also it could refer to Sleeps disapproval or bafflement over Vessel being misunderstood by other people, let it be friends/family or the world in general. (This could very well tie into being alone among many. Being misunderstood.)
" 'Cause you can remember only when you're alone I am granting you more than the debt that I owe" - Sleep and Vessel are the only ones who can understand their situation as a whole. They are the only one's for each other, everyone else (even the other vessels -tho probably for a higher degree of understanding than others- can only try to comprehend what this connection entails. And it only goes beyond the strictness of the original pact formed, when the two are alone. They probably have a different bond because there is a deeper understandig, given Vessel is the main conduit. And if Sleep's power is channelled through him, he probably had glimpses into Sleep's thoughts and desires and more and vica versa and at some point decided they may give each other even more for some reason only fully know to them. We usually only focus on Vessel owing a debt to Sleep because Sleep raised him form the dark, the obscurity but there is also a debt on Sleep's side. Because without a vessel he can't achieve what he want's(followers) especially not to this magnitude and speed. And Vessel choosing to do Sleep's bidding and may even going beyond the initial agreement creates an additional debt on Sleep's part as well. But these additional gifts and givings are only happening when there is only the two of them. It's theirs and no one else's.
And i'm not sure where i wanted to go with this, i just wanted to put my thoughts into the lore ideas floating around. 😅
What’re y’all’s lore-based ideas on how the lads found Sleep, anyway? I like lore-heavy discussions, and I’m curious about everyone else’s thoughts.

“ Are you aware of what you make me feel ? ” liv @ hanzo in modern verse!
𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐆𝐎 || @somniaxperdita || accepting
💥 || They will be, and they were, they are living until their last breaths; for time has no equivalent exchange. It would send both of them raving, unraveled like the worn sepia of a film photograph. How they ache, in those muggy moments as night stains the sky, to be taken back - to take back - their hearts, little whirring tops, fighting with such desperation. It is no one, but Olivia Winter that fevers the bloom of his wildfire heart which obliterates the sempiternal aspect of his grief and suffering. Lest, the complications of Commander Hasashi’s life stirs too many broken bodies and not enough people - too many ears and no one attached to them as harrowing timbres of screams taint the glow of the midnight moon.
Perhaps his body will continue to be on fire; burning, writhing, and flailing, trying to convince himself to crawl and douse the fire out. The destructive sweep of fire may continue to lodge debris and irreparably fragmented memories of happiness into his heart, yet how it conflagrates the firmly planted logs of his passion and zeal that keep him ablaze. Olivia Winter, through her own intonations of passion and stimulating melody, captures Hanzo Hasashi’s life as he lives it, as he recreates all the once-forgotten and repressed memories back into solidified reality. The reality where he could dip his entire self into the pool of Olivia Winter’s crystalline waters; the deep brown inching up his being like ink. Hanzo Hasashi will lay, still as anything, watching as he gently gets dragged down, plunging because of the weight of the joy in his soul.
He will drown, as Olivia’s eyes are not like night, nor day but dusk. Her eyes are like the first mist of the twilight, and he will bathe in the light as if Gods bathe in ambrosia. His parched, desiccated roots are set on his beloved’s wetland heart, as proverbial pain lodged in-between words stuck in his throat yearning to echo their way back to sinking nightmarish visions and dreams, only filling him with hopeless despair and desolation becomes ephemeral as Hanzo’s lingering gaze settles upon the undulating waves of sun-soaked horizon, giving its way to the deepening twilight.
“We may be but stardust and untold stories, but I would shine for you to see. As I live in a land of love and hope and sadness and most of all possibilities, I will continue to be a human unstopped, unarced, and unhurt, because I know I would be all II can be, and all I ever will be because of our love,” the echo of his beloved’s voice still seems to torment him, as if it had been a vocalization from a distance he couldn’t ever reach. His gaze skin to gazing the stars as he would reminisce, as they spin the same path as last time; too close, too familiar. Perhaps Hanzo Hasashi wants her to be as familiar to him as the stars; wanting to watch her face and pick apart every emotion like he does with the constellations. “I am unashamed to admit that I am well aware of it, as I continue to drown in light, in heat, and in freedom, thus in return, giving me unfathomable power to ride the tides of unknown that is my life.” 💥 ||

Morphic: the Musical
The Thousand Roads forums have a fanfic music thread. While I don't really do those kinds of threads usually because I don't really listen to a very wide variety of music and generally have a hard time associating music that already exists with unrelated fiction, one of the questions in it is this:
Talk about what would happen if some Broadway hit-maker scooped up your fic and turned it into a script. What songs would be in it? Describe a dance number/dance battle?
And immediately, the musical analysis glint lit up in my eyes. This question was presumably intended in a lighthearted jokey sort of way - imagining some fight staged as a dance battle, a hypothetical Broadway hit-maker doing the adaptation. But that's not enough for me, say I! Musicals are a good and interesting medium for serious fiction that I care about and I am going to serious this up.
See, to me, the musical format has two major strengths as a narrative medium. The first is that it can explore the inner worlds of characters in a pretty unique way. Characters get to monologue in a sort of heightened, non-literal manner, intensified by music: we can learn what they're about, what makes them tick, what's going on in their heads in a particular moment, in a way that wouldn't really make sense presented as actual inner monologue in another medium. The music aspect itself then adds a layer to it that's impossible to replicate in any other.
The second strength of the musical format is that it's really good at highlighting recurring themes, parallels and contrasts. Reprise the same melody, the same lyric, a parallel but opposite lyric, and you've instantly connected two things together. Is there a character arc? You can highlight what has changed. Are there two characters going through something similar? You can draw that out. Is there a recurring theme throughout? Use a recurring lyric, a recurring melodic phrase! Nudge the viewer into forming connections! Delicious! And you can do subtler things on the music level itself - particular instruments with particular connotations, recurring motifs...
So naturally I decided I should think up what a musical adaptation of Morphic would be like. It'd be a fun exercise in putting all my thoughts on musical adaptations into practice, but also an interesting way to help sort out some of my thoughts about characters arcs, etc. for the actual Morphic rewrite. And in the process, I may have gone slightly overboard. I regret nothing.
(I'm about to spoil most of the fic here, if this wasn't obvious)
Morphic: the Musical - tracklist
(Note: this musical is not sung-through; there are regular non-musical sections with regular dialogue in between. Morphic would almost definitely not make for a good sung-through musical.)
Act I
[Intro song] (Brian)
A monologue by Brian at the TV studio as he tries to work through what to say, how to explain or justify any of this (which conveniently serves to exposit to the audience as well as introduce his character). He makes nervous false starts and cuts himself off, starting the verse over each time, and through these false starts we learn what's going on, that the press has been calling them Pokémorphs, that this was all Dave's idea, that alcohol was involved, that it was meant as a basis for further research, that there were never supposed to be *children*, that he doesn't know what he'd even do with a kid, that Dave roped him into going on this show because he couldn't.
[Dave song] (Dave)
This musical properly introduces us to Dave via Jane walking out on him followed by this song, wherein he contemplates chucking baby Jean out the window. It's a dark rock song with big emotional contrasts and raw lyrics that is almost definitely my favorite song in this musical in the hypothetical reality where it is an actual musical and I didn't write it, because I am me. Probably starts with a couple slower lines of desperate disbelief before launching into wild anger about fuck that fucking whore, followed by what I will be referring to as the everything-is-shit verse (please bear with me), just a general cynicism rant about why the world is a shitty place not worth living in, followed by him wildly fantasizing about killing his infant child. What a delightful human being that I adore. The song ends abruptly, he's standing there staring at her in his arms for a moment, then he silently goes to feed her. On the soundtrack you probably might think he just did it.
Fatherhood (Brian)
A montage song covering the timeskip, which probably reprises [Intro song]. Brian initially has no idea what to do with his new squirming horrorblob child and is convinced he will screw it up the way he tends to screw up everything. Makes a couple of false starts again, but then gains confidence as time passes as he genuinely bonds with Gabriel and legitimately thinks he's a pretty amazing kid. There's a repeated line along the lines of that Gabriel's a weird, weird kid, but he's his, initially in a tone of "oh god I'm responsible for him what do" but towards the end is said with pride and fondness.
[Villain song] (Isaac and Jacob)
A duet between the two brothers, exploring what makes them tick. Isaac is all about this heavy pressure and sense of responsibility, originally imposed by his father, that he continues to impose on himself. He's been appointed to take over leading the family/cult and was raised with that constantly in the back of his mind as his future, and he believes that they're God's true righteous people and he cannot go wrong. He has dreams with some regularity that he interprets as visions from God, as he has been encouraged to since childhood by his father. When he has one about murder, it frightens him but he sees it as basically a divinely-appointed mission.
Jacob privately doesn't really believe any of that. He is trapped in this cult and goes through the motions but is not actually driven by any of the things that are driving Isaac. He's fairly quiet for most of the song - as Isaac is going on about his vision, Jacob has a line here and there obliquely challenging it, but Isaac has an answer for everything, and he doesn't press it, instead moving seamlessly on to suggestions for how he should do it. Jacob gets a quiet variant of part of the everything-is-shit verse from [Dave song], expressing the same kind of cynicism in a more reproachful, apathetic way - all in his own head, of course.
Just Like My Hero (Jean and Will)
Jean sings about how she is just like her hero, Sarah Hooter! Starts off describing how they look the same, moves on from there to how she will torch anyone who's mean, etc., just like her hero. Halfway through, Will joins in, and it becomes a counterpoint duet: Jean may be immature and ridiculous, but he deeply wishes he was confident and adored and nothing would get to him, and he admires and envies that about her. His just like my hero has a bit more of an ironic vibe, he'd hardly properly call her his hero, but he looks up to her more than he'd normally admit nonetheless.
Storming the Castle (Jack and Gabriel)
Jack and Gabriel are playing a D&D game with their friends, arguing about the best course of action. Jack is eager to waltz into the bad guys' fortress, storm the castle, while Gabriel urges lying low, says they're too weak. Jack wants to take the leap and try it; Gabriel insists no, we're not taking the leap, it's stupid. "It's brave!" Jack counters. (In the end, Gabriel gives in and they go ahead with it, and it goes fine.)
Unique (Mia and Lucy)
Mia and Lucy play one of their games. The song is about how Lucy needs someone like Mia to challenge her and let her actually indulge her powers, which are otherwise unsettling to people and she's ashamed and self-conscious about them, while Mia needs someone like Lucy to get a real outlet for her hunter's instinct. The word the lyrics are built around is unique; by being the precise way they are, they are each the only person who can provide this for the other.
Mia doesn't sing. She speaks her lyrics in her usual monotone, not even rhythmically. They also don't rhyme. It's technically a duet but really it's just Lucy singing and Mia talking.
[Peter/Katherine song] (Peter and Katherine)
A counterpoint duet between the siblings, contrasting their experience as Pokémorphs. Peter can pretty easily hide that he's different and be treated mostly as a normal kid, and feels free in his privilege, not confined quite the way the others are, able to be a bit reckless and incautious. Katherine, meanwhile, has a very different experience, being extremely noticeably different, getting stared at, and struggling with basic activities, and feels a huge sense of responsibility weighing her down, worrying about Peter and grounding him and reining him in. There's a lyrical contrast involving something something bird freedom plant rooted down something.
Brian's Death (Isaac and Dave)
This is one of those mostly-instrumental pieces that they include on the soundtrack anyway, but Isaac gets a couple of sung nondiegetic lines in here, a sort of frantic excitement, realizing in a brief panic that he shot the wrong guy before rationalizing that God must have planned it this way.
Dave is probably also in there screaming and attempting to call the police, because I am always in favor of screaming and panicking on musical soundtracks.
The Funeral (Gabriel and Jack)
Begins with Gabriel at the church during the funeral, singing about his vague discomfort being there, but slowly becomes increasingly frantic and anxious, working up to a breakdown where he exits and finally manages to cry for his dad. There's a verse about little things, how they ordered pizza the night before he died, etc., culminating in the bit about him having been in the middle of this mystery novel and never getting to learn who did it; the verse trails off quietly there, backing instruments gone, as Gabriel breaks down. Jack follows to comfort him.
Act II
[Montage song] (everyone)
A montage of the days after the attack, where everyone gets a couple lines about how they're coping, scared and grieving.
Dave's lines are like, spoken slightly too desperate annoyance at having to do some work that Brian didn't get to finish, or rebuking somebody who asks how he's doing by saying he barely even knew Brian. He is not singing along with this kind of grief-porn bullshit, fuck you.
[Villain song II] (Isaac and Jacob)
The brothers come up with a new plan. Isaac is agitated, reprising some of his bits from the original villain song in a quicker, more frantic tempo, while Jacob picks up the slack, walking him through a new idea. Isaac takes to it with conviction and goes back to the original melody/tempo, talking again about his God-given purpose. Jacob does not join in with any of that, only with the bits about the actual plan.
The Kidnapping (instrumental)
I'm just going to say this is on the soundtrack too and contains panicked Gabriel noises because I want it to be.
Storming the Castle Reprise (Jack)
Jack tries to rally the others for a rescue mission, echoing the D&D game from Act I. The lines about storming the castle and taking the leap make a reappearance.
Just Like My Hero Reprise (Jean)
Jean, on the bus, miserably contemplates how she is unlike her hero. Again, it begins with a verse talking about how she looks - not a thing like Sarah Hooter anymore - but then moves on to how she's scared and pathetic and running away, unlike anything a hero would do.
Church Sequence (Will, Jack, Mia)
A single track, largely instrumental/dialogue/sound effects, with a couple of brief song snippets:
- Will reprises "Just Like My Hero" as he wills himself to go on. He is cut off mid-line as he is shot.
- Mia slits that guy's throat and she actually sings a few words, for the first and only time, before she is also cut off mid-line by a gunshot. The line is something about, like, warm blood in her face or the guy's satisfying death throes, reprising part of the melody of "Unique".
Strong (Gabriel)
Gabriel discovers his powers. Starts slowly, calling back to the bits from "Storming the Castle" about lying low, being weak. But as the song continues and he makes his discovery, the tempo builds, and he starts reprising Jack's bits instead: he is strong, taking the leap, storming the castle.
Perish Song (Lucy)
Another brief reprise of "Unique", distorted and deafening and terrifying, mourning her sister.
[In the Hospital] (Jack and Gabriel)
The two of them work out their feelings about what happened. Includes Jack going "It was stupid" (i.e. the rescue mission) and Gabriel responding "It was brave", echoing the bit where they said the opposite in "Storming the Castle". Jack blames himself for how it all turned out, feels stupid and weak, while Gabriel actually felt kind of awesome. (This is also calling back to their opposite bits of "Storming the Castle".) They end with a shared duet verse as they realize they've both got that same innate desire to fight and win. Possibly calls back to the weird, weird kid line from "Fatherhood".
Eulogy (Dave)
Dave's eulogy for Mia (which also touches on Will, but this is Mia's funeral). It reprises "Unique". There will never again be anyone like the two of them, two of the only truly unique people on this Earth. (And, while he doesn't say it straight out because hahahaha, he needed Mia, too).
Taking the Leap (Jack and Gabriel)
Jack's suicide attempt and his swirling inner turmoil as he tries to talk himself into taking the leap once again. Gabriel, of course, comes in with don't take that leap. Am I overusing this one line by putting it in like half the songs in this thing? Well, who's going to stop me.
[Peter/Katherine song reprise] (Peter and Katherine)
The two of them contemplate indefinite house arrest (in contrast to the freedom Peter's enjoyed most of his life) and Katherine's failure to stop all this (despite her sense of responsibility). In the end, they both find their own ways to accept the new state of things and support each other through this.
Finale (Dave and Jean)
After Dave breaks down on his couch and Jean comes in to ask what's wrong, Dave sings a reprise of the everything-is-shit verse, going over the many things he's angry about, because that is the only emotion involved here clearly. At the exact point where Dave's song originally went from there to fantasizing about throwing her off the balcony, Jean throws her arms around him and sniffles "It'll be okay, Dad," and after a stunned "What? Jean, I'm--", he continues with a slow, hesitant *inverted* reprise of the everything-is-shit verse, "Everything'll be fine", constructing a little fantasy reality for her (and himself) where everything turns out all right in the end. It's backed by, like, a simple, quiet, slower piano rendition of the original melody, and trails off at the end, never quite coming to a satisfying conclusion before he tells Jean she should go back to bed.

III. Lord & Lady Hawke The years married to Lord Hawke leading up to his early passing (or as all suspect fowl play).
IV. The Merry Widow The years as a widow Lady Hawke discovers her freedom.
V. The Future Countess of Highbury Lady Hawke is betrothed to the Count of Highbury, and before she has even walked down the aisle, she’s grown to loathe her to-be second husband. She needs an escape, however long or short. So on the pretense of visiting her brother she goes to sea aboard the dinghy The Tempest. Alone. And gets caught in a storm. And thinks it’s her end. Or is it?
VI. Neverland / The Castaway [Main Verse Prologue] Margaret and the wreck of the Tempest drift on currents to Neverland, and are discovered by Captain Hook (@totheplank) and the Jolly Roger. James personally sees to her recovery, and to her surprise for being a pirate, treats her hospitably. In spite of this, after expressing her gratitude, Lady Hawke makes multiple escape attempts as she tries to uncover who really is Captain James Hook?
VII. Neverland / The Greatest of Adventures [Main Verse] Lady Hawke - like her bird namesake - must fly away. And one successful escape attempt later aboard her now repaired dinghy The Tempest, she navigates these peculiar waters and shores of Neverland (thankfully being in Captain Hook & Master Smee’s company long enough taught her enough tricks to navigate Neverland’s ever changing environment). She left a note for James with a hint of a promise for her future return, but now she can’t quite shake off why she can’t stop dreaming of his forget-me-not blue eyes.
VIII. Neverland / The Bird of Prey [Main Verse] Like the hawk returning to the falconer’s trusted arm, Captain Hook & Lady Hawke’s paths cross once again. (One shout of his iconic ‘SMEE-EEEEE’ and he’s loud enough to instantly find and recognize anyway). Lady Hawke fully comes into her own as a Neverland pirate (why not live life dangerously?) seeking treasure and adventure and discovery… and the pearl of Captain Hook’s eye as their love story unfolds. No longer will either of them be alone & unloved.
VIX. Neverland / Peter Pan & The Darling Children The events of the Peter Pan story/movie/etc.
Future Reincarnation. - Mrs. Mary Astor-Darling
I. The Loveliest Lady in Bloomsburg Mary Darling. Wife of George Darling. Mother of Wendy, John, and Michael. There never was a happier, simpler family.

ANOTHER WORLD - ANALYSIS
This song has been living rent-free in my head for the past many days, and I think that the most productive way to deal with that is write an analysis of it. It’s an incredibly mysterious track; it definitely deserves to be examined a little further.
Section I: Brian’s Thoughts / Narration?
First, I want to consider what Brian himself has said about the song since the artist’s thought-process behind their creation is never not important:
“(...) I think there are many people who see a parallel universe for themselves. They think, 'If this hadn't happened, I could've been doing this, I could’ve been here doing this, I could've been with this person.’ And I think it's something that occupies quite a bit of our thought a lot of the time. It's secret thoughts, it's things we can't talk about, you know?”
What I understand from this is the song is written about the different lives that people envision for themselves, typically to fantasize about something that won’t ever happen to them but could have happened. He also describes these fantasies as secrets that “[We] can’t talk about,” implying that they’re a taboo.
When listening to a song, an important question to ask is, ‘Who’s the ‘I’? Who’s the narrator?’ And even though Brian doesn’t explicitly say that this song is about himself, that’s the only thing that makes sense to me. Also, his use of a collective ‘we’ and ‘people’ when talking about it could be him trying to distance himself from the song because its subject matter is too personal. He’s trying to make it appealing to everyone.
So, keep in mind that every time I refer to ‘the narrator’, I’m actually referring to Brian, but I want to keep the distance there for the sake of the analysis..
Now, I’ll get into the lyrics:
—
Section II: The Story
In another world Under another sky I see another story waiting to be told And another you Wakes up with another me For that's the way we've come to be In another world
A thing worth noting is the repeated use of the word ‘another,’ which maintains a sharp distinction between this current world and ‘the other’ world; they are always kept separate by the repetition.
In the lines that I have bolded, the narrator is described as another version of himself, who wakes up with another version of his love interest but, to me, the interesting part is “for that’s the way we’ve come to be in another world”. It suggests that the people in question do not wake up together — aren’t lovers — in the “real” world.
In a different place Way across time and space A door is open wide Drawn to a different light Maybe we'll step inside The open door is a famous metaphor for opportunity, hope, and also freedom. I think the use of this metaphor alludes to the the different, happy life that these two people could have together in another world. This life is referenced in the first verse: Waking up together... and in the next part of the song:
In another world We can show we care You can be sure I’m waiting there In another world
Again, there’s a distinction between the current world and the other, happier world. “In another world, we can show we care” informs the listener that the couple in this song weren’t able to show that they cared for one another outside ‘the other world’.
Also, “You can be sure I’m waiting there” suggests devotion. This love interest is someone the narrator is willing to wait for.
[Guitar solo break: The melody is whimsical and dreamlike, I suppose, which goes well with the overall theme of the song.]
When the dice were cast They laid a crazy path We follow to our graves But I know in a different world We journey a different way
These three lines describe a kind of destiny: There’s a certain path you’re supposed to follow and you can’t stray from it; you’ll follow it until you die. But, in this parallel world, this ‘other’ world, there’s a different journey for you. In this case, I think the ‘we’ refers to people in general and not just the couple.
The message of this is melancholic in that it’s so... hopeless. There’s a clear longing for something that is unattainable in this current world/life. This next bit shows that as well:
So we live But life isn't what it seems We're only living in our dreams In another world
This other world might be a dream, a fantasy, but it’s strong.
The lines, “Life isn’t what it seems, we’re only living in our dreams” suggest that people are only pretending to be satisfied with the life that they currently have; that they’re living in their dreams of another world. It’s worth pointing out that, for the narrator, this other world is built around the idea of being with someone that you don’t currently have...
You can believe I'll meet you here In another world
Essentially, this is saying, “Be with me in my fantasy. I’m waiting for you here, in my head,” and that’s soul-crushing. It’s devastating. What the fuck, Brian?
—
Part III: The Hidden Track
The lyrics end, but after about a minute of complete silence, a piano track begins.
@iwilltrytobereasonable described this to me as a “hidden track,” which it is considering that you have to keep the record running to know it’s even there. Moreover, I was told that this piano track is a stripped-back version of Business, which is another song on the album.
I went ahead and listened to Business and it’s, above all else, a song about the fear of being judged and left by your loved ones (specifically, your parents) for your actions. It is also a very heavy song, though with a few slower breaks, but the stripped-back version of it that appears here on Another World is delicate in its melody and thus very distinct from the orginal.
Why include this? Especially as a hidden track at the end of this specific song? I don’t know for sure, of course, but I have a ~ theory ~ based on the themes of the respective songs.
Business is, as I’ve said, about the fear of being judged for your actions and struggling with living life the way people expect.
Another World describes the desire to live in your dreams. This other world is the epitome of freedom, as you can be with the person you love and show your true feelings for them without experiencing judgement.
So the themes of the two songs are opposed: Fear/Restraint vs. Hope/Freedom
Putting these two songs together could simply be a way of showing that thematic opposition, but I think it goes a little deeper. I think including the track from Business after Another World alludes to a harsh reality: The dreamscape that Another World describes is essentially just that... a dream. However wonderful the idea of living without fear of judgement may be, it never quite disappears for the narrator (Brian). It lingers; it stays with him no matter how intense the dream is, and the Business piano track might be a symbol of that.
—
Part IV: “That’s about all that I can handle.”
At the very end of the track, you can just make out Brian softly saying, “That’s about all that I can handle,” which takes me right back to Part I in that this is obviously a personal song for him. In truth, I think this whole album is personal for Brian, as its meant to symbolize a kind of emotional journey for him. He describes that in this quote:
“I sort of put a little disclaimer on this album actually to say that I was trying to make this journey, and I hoped by the time I got to the end of the album, I would be in this other world. I thought, ‘Yeah, I will have made this journey and I’ll have gotten to this other place and then I can tell everyone how I did it!,’ but I didn’t really manage it. So, the truth of the album is that it’s a journey which is still taking place.”
At the end of the day, I think there’s a whole discussion to be had about what this emotional journey is, because I’m inclined to think that it covers several things that he struggles with in his life. The song Another World, specifically, describes a romantic dream/struggle... and let’s just say, I have my reasons for believing that the person Brian wants to meet in his alternate fantasy world is not a woman.
But let’s leave it at that for now, shall we?
#not sure if i should tag this#ah. fuck it#**my analysis#i really went all out for this and i regret nothing

Ever wondered whats actually in the Old Testament? Well that’s the only testament my religion has! Heres a summary of the Tanakh (old testament) from a jewish lens. I’ve read a lot of these books because I have nothing better to do so I mostly know what I’m talking about. Come on down to Judiasm, we have
The Big Five
The Book of Bereshit (Genesis): the world gets made then flooded and uh oh family drama fuck don’t get more then one wife these people need family therapy oh god oh no
The Book of Sh’mot (Exodus): pssst hey kid, want some freedom??? Wanna fucking starve and die in the desert??? Hey kid, wanna be free to suffer and die???? Or stay where you are as a slave and die a little more every day???? Also leprosy bad don’t do it be nice and have more babies lots of babies the population is at like 17 people right now-
The Book of Vayikrah (Leviticus) we’re going to the promised land I swear, part 1, also learning how to have your own agency as a human being and how to live as a good person now that you’re free. Also hygiene. Remember to bathe you fucks. Basically, the people ask god for laws, and oh boy, does he deliver.
The Book of Bamidbar (Numbers): we’re going to the promised land I swear, part 2, with more rules this time! Soooo many rules. Like too many. Like so many, mostly of the “don’t steal Sherman’s cow even if you really really want it because god keeps a tally of that shit and it’s really not good for your long term health”
The Book of Shevarim (Deuteronomy): more rules, repeat of everything god said, it’s a little doom and gloom, but hey, we finally made it to the fucking promised land! It should be a peice of cake from here on out!
The Interesting But Far Less Impactful Ones
The Book of Yoshua (Joshua): well... we finally made it. Things have gone... alright.... so far, I bet things are gonna be just fine.
The Book of Shoftim (Judges): things get legendarily worse. There are dismembered limbs everywhere. Ain’t pretty. Israel change leaders like a girl changes clothes, and these leaders are (including but not limited to): stabby-stabby left handed guy, a Woman [gasp], whatever the fuck Gideon was supposed to be, basically a pirate whose mom is a prostitute, and mr. strong man don’t cut his hair. Seriously.
The Book of Shmuel 1 and 2 (Samuel I-II): look just... shit goes down. Saul is a shit king so the random ass peasant child David becomes the king of Israel and is a hilarious disaster of a man. A lot of civil wars. A lot of David being a dramatic bitch. These are my favorite books I kind of cried in the beginning when Jonathan died. Hijinks ensue. Things go... okay for a while.
The Book of Malachim 1 and 2 (Kings I and II): Oho boy. David’s son Solomon becomes king, he builds the temple, he’s a fine king until he’s not, Judah splits off from the other tribes and becomes their own kingdom, Elijah gets really tired of babysitting all of these kings all the time, it’s a nebulous time period.
The Books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, Ezekiel, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habbakuk, Zephaniah, Zachariah and Malachi: okay, this is... a lot. Most of these books are various essays made by prophets trying to convince people to stop doing whatever sin was prevalent at their time. A lot of it’s boring and not really relevant anymore. Except for Habbakuk, Habbakuk tries to have a fist fight with god, god answers his questions, he leaves satisfied. I think the temple gets ganked at some point and the Israelites get massacred so hard only Judah’s tribe, Benjamin’s tribe, and bits of Levi survive and everyone else faces exile. Anyway that’s booooring let’s move on
End of the Story (Last Section Part 1)
[imma start with some of the later books because they’re relevant to the earlier books and closure is important]
The Book of Daniel: Local Man is almost killed in every way you can think of but god protects him and he pursues his dream... of becoming a Persian bureaucrat. Not kidding.
The Book of Ezra: they return to the land! They rebuild the temple!! The Jews are sort of kind of a thing again!!!
The Book of Nehemiah: except Jerusalem is a wasteland and a perfect target for bandits so Nehemiah has the genius idea of building a wall around the city so awesome and cool that no one will ever mess with them again. Nehemiah is really good because it’s about healing and connection and redemption and all that good shit. Broken people trying to put their lives back together by connecting to their past. Makes me fucking cry damn it-
Miscellaneous (Last Section Part 2)
Lamentations: Jerusalem is fucked. It’s bad. Everything is bad. Again. Oh well. Better luck next time.
Esther: the Jewish queen of Persia manages to outsmart an evil guy who wants to kill her people yayyyyy
Ecclesiastes: its just a philosophy book with a disembodied narrator who was probably Solomon.
Psalms: David is extra and he wants you to know it so he wrote 150 verses of praise to god cause he felt like it
Proverbs: Solomon wants everyone to be good people, the usual.
Song of Songs: okay listen, this is basically a love poem supposedly written by Solomon, and it is like... really horny and genuinely kinda sweet at times. Weird book, don’t know why it’s here
Ruth: a converted immigrant widow follows her mother in law into Israel and marries a pretty cool guy named Boaz. That’s it.
#judaism#bible#I guess this might apply to christianity??#some of it anyway#torah#old testament#bible tw#idk man I just wanna know if people know this perspective#Christianity ordered the books different#so it’s like a completely different story#psalms#Ruth#king david#god and stuff
