Some background about the song in case anyone's interested.

This is a cover of the original released last year by the boyband New Country. The song title is Stand By หล่อ, and if you can sense an old-time twang, that's because the composition has roots in Thai country music (luk thung or ลูกทุ่ง) although the original version by New Country is a contemporary song, not a traditional one. (Satang is absolutely splendid in evoking the older style of luk thung with his crying vocals and sliding into his notes, rather than hitting them on-pitch).

Actually the MSP concert producers went for an older, groovier feel – the original by New Country has quite a modern arrangement instead:

Old-time luk thung is unashamedly and unironically cheesy, which also explains the boys' costuming at the MSP concert.

And the song's ties to luk thung are deep – Stand By หล่อ was written by none other than Got Jakrapun, the Prince of Thai luk thung himself. He was also behind the formation of New Country, envisaged as a modern luk thung boyband (see this article linked here).

If Got Jakrapun's name and the twang of the song are sounding familiar even though you don't know luk thung – you may be remembering the time they were vividly evoked at the KinnPorsche World Tour.

Build Jakapan (Pete in KinnPorsche) was actually named after Got Jakrapun because his mom was a fan back in the day (Jakapan = Jakrapun because, you know, Thai language). And Build (before he resigned from Be On Cloud) paid homage to his mom and to his namesake at the KPWT concert by singing one of Got Jakrapun's most famous songs – 1997's I Love You More Than Anyone (รักคุณยิ่งกว่าใคร). If you listen to that song, the similarities with Stand By Lor are unmistakable – they have the same jaunty beat, and the melodies are in minor mode while the mood and lyrics are cheerfully (and cheesily) upbeat. 👍

I wasn't expecting to like Stand By หล่อ, but the song is so bouncy and fun, and the boys did such a good job (can't believe they're singing live, while dancing) that I'm absolutely hooked – listening to it on endless repeat now! 💖

PS I have to agree Aun is dazzling. They need to give him more stuff to do! 🤩

no because when i was watching the clips of my school president prom night on stage day 1 without subs, the group performance that was most fun to watch was Stand By Lor right? such great dance moves, very groovy, very traditional vibes in places (aka satang & ford's vocals).

I had to actually search for this since spotify seems to have hidden it from the 'for you' page (along with 'time capsule' which is a cornucopia of cringe but in a good way)

New Country - Stand by หล่อ

This song is to blame if my spotify wrapped ends up especially weird this year. I must have listened to it hundreds of times on repeat. New Country in general are such a fun group. I wish they'd release more music.

What's my phone lockscreen? It's this cool 2016 Yamaha YZF-R6:

I don't ride a bike, and it never appealed to me in the past. But there's just something about this 60th anniversary bumblebee design that I find hard to resist. Not planning to get one, ever (it's better for the environment to use public transport, I don't need one, etc etc.), but still a guy can dream.

The last song I listened to was one that came out of the blue, and it was @markpakin who alerted me to it! (Not tagging you for the game though because you already played right? 😁) And you know the song too @airenyah – it's Stand By หล่อ that the My School President boys sang at the MSP Prom Night concert. But I've been listening to the New Country version, or more specifically, watching their dance video for it (over and over) on YouTube:

Gotta love a song that starts with the word "Donut" – I can't think of any other! 💖 Plus the choreography is mesmerizing and the execution is flawless. I'm particularly impressed by the dancing of the blond guy (Mbow Pantakan, wearing a top that looks a bit like Ink's in Bad Buddy at Ep.4 [3I4] 0.55 😍), as well as that of Guitar Nathaaek (in the checked sweater). Also I can't help thinking Tintin Jarasrawee (in the grey and white hoodie) looks kind of like Korn in Bad Buddy. As always everything leads back to BBS for me!

The last photo I saved is a little mundane:

The groceries I ordered arrived with a glass jar (containing my favorite freeze-dried coffee granules) shattered by the delivery process. So I took this photo as proof to accompany my request for a refund. Such a waste of good coffee, but the shards of glass are so well mixed in there's no salvaging anything from that jar, unfortunately. And I'm sore about it because I drink a lot of coffee.
