character b texts character a that they're thinking of making a move on someone else, and character a type out a supportive response, even though they're secretly wishing they'd look at them the same way.

character b leans over character a's shoulder, their breath warm against a's neck as they point out something on a's paper. character a tries to focus on the words they’re saying, but all they can think about is how close character b is.

"oh my god! i was only staring because you had something on your face. stop making it weird!"

"i wish we could just stay here forever." character a says, lying on the grass, staring at the sky. "yeah…me too." character b replies softly, but their gaze is on character a, not the sky. 

"are you alright?" character a asks, noticing the silence. "mmm…yeah." character b says, smiling, but all they want to say is, i’m fine, i just wish you could see me the way i see you.

"you’re my favorite person. i mean, not like that... unless you thought i meant it like that?…i'm kidding!"

character a tells character b they need to talk, and for a moment, character b thinks maybe this is it — maybe they’ll confess their feelings. but instead, character a says, "i…think I’m in love with someone." “oh…”

character a tells character b that they’re planning to confess their feelings to someone else, and character b feels their world shatter in an instant. "…good luck." character b says, but inside, it feels like they’re losing a piece of themselves.

"i wish i could find someone who makes me feel as safe as you do, b" “you will,a...”

"i’d rather be their friend than nothing at all..."

You’re scared, you’re confused, your powers just manifested and they’re strong and you’re so small you shouldn’t be able to cause so much destruction, this isn’t you, what is happening to your body?

Everything aches. The ink black veins of corruption are already crawling up your arms— you don’t want to check how close they are to your heart, how close you are to becoming a monster. You don’t want to know.

You find an alley to curl up in, maybe wait it out; you don’t know. You’re not thinking straight. You never thought you were an ESPER, never had a contingency plan for this. And now, at the most dire moment, when your own, raucous power is poisoning your body, you’re alone.

Until you feel the cool, soft touch of a hand on your forehead, a sympathetic hum. “It hurts, doesn’t it?”

You can barely open your eyes, racked with pain and exhausted, but standing with his back to the open mouth of the alley, a halo of setting sun behind him, he looks like an angel.

Maybe you really are dead—

But you feel the hand move, driving down to your own, clasping it. It’s a firm grip, sure and steady. Not painful, but confident.

And then— the pain begins to ebb. A slow trickle of relief that has you pawing at the hand around yours, clutching, begging for more. Like he’s pulling you back to the surface. Like he’s saving you from drowning.

The corruption hasn’t been completely dispelled, but you feel a thousand times better. You feel— safe, as he pulls you to sitting, and then hauls you into his arms.

“My name is Suguru Getou,” he tells you. “I’m your Guide.”

In your muddled state, it’s hard to make sense of what he’s saying. There’s no way he could have been assigned to your case; you yourself just found out your abilities today. How did he know where to find you, anyway?

He carries you to a nondescript car, parked nearby, gentle as he tucks you inside, buckles you in.

Questions tilt in your mind, a kaleidoscope of inquiries. There’s something not quite right about this situation, though you can’t put your finger on it.

You manage to get a few words out, hoarse and exhausted. “Where are we going?”

He brushes your hand, and there’s that sensation again, like his touch is suffused with light. Like his hands hold everything good and kind in the world.

“Home,” he says.

"i don’t know how to explain it, but you feel like someone i’ve known for a long time."

"i think i've loved you before."  character b looks over at them, their gaze filled with fondness. "i think… i’ve loved you too."
