Chris never loved her and he never will.

“I told you a lie, when I said you, you, were the love of my life.”

“I FELT SORRY FOR YOU WHEN I LOOKED IN YOUR EYES”

It all started around a month ago. Chris started coming home late, always with an excuse, never looking me in the eye.

“I have a lot of work to catch up on…” he’d say avoiding my gaze.

His hugs felt emptier, his kisses more mechanical, as if he were going through the motions, without any affection. Whenever I tried to talk about our relationship, he would change the subject, or give a short and dismissive answer.

“Can we not do this right now? I’m exhausted..” he’d mutter, scrolling through his phone.

“DID I BREAK YOUR HEART?”

He stopped sharing his thoughts and feelings with me, leaving me in the dark about what was going on in his life. He started sleeping farther away from me, whenever he stayed over, leaving a chasm between us that felt insurmountable.

“Chris, what’s happening to us?” I asked one night, the weight of distance suffocating me.

He sighed rubbing his temples. “Nothing happening. You’re just overthinking things.”

“But we don’t talk like we used to. You barely look at me anymore.” I said tears on the brink of running down my face.

He snapped “Maybe because there’s nothing left to say!”

The nights grew colder as he slept on the far edge of the bed, no longer coddling me like he used to.

Even small things started to irritate him now, and he would snap at me over the tiniest issues. He no longer planned our dates or showed interest in spending time together, always claiming to be too busy or tired.

“Why are you so mad all the time?” I asked tears welling up in my eyes.

“Because you're always nagging me! Can’t you just leave me alone for once.?” He retorted, his voice sharp and unyielding.

“DID I WASTE YOUR TIME?”

He no longer planned our dates or showed any interest in spending time together, always claiming to be too busy o too tired.

“Im swamped at work,” he’d say avoiding eye contact.

He always had an excuse ready for why he couldn’t join me for dinner or go out with our friends.

“I’ve got a meeting.” he would say, or, “I’m just too tired.”

“I TRIED TO BE THERE FOR YOU”

Whenever I expressed concern about our relationship, he would get defensive, accusing me of being too needy or dramatic. One night, in a heated argument, the truth finally came out.

“Why are you doing this?” I cried. “Why are you pushing me away?”

Chris’s eyes were cold as he replied, “Because I never loved you. I never will. You were just convenient. I’m sorry if you thought it was more.”

I stood there, stunned, trying to process his words. “What do you mean? How can you say that after everything we’ve been through?”

He rolled his eyes. “We’ve been through nothing. I stayed because it was easy, not because I cared.”

My confusion turned to anger. “How can you be so heartless? You made me believe we had something real!”

“You wanted to believe it. That’s on you, not me,” he said, his voice growing louder.

“How long have you felt this way?” I demanded, my voice shaking.

Chris shrugged. “Does it matter? The point is, it’s over. It should have never started.”

I felt my world crumbling around me. “But you told me I was the love of your life.”

Chris sighed deeply. “I’m sorry, but I told you a lie.”

I stared at him, my heart breaking. “So, what now? You just walk away?”

“THEN YOU TRIED TO BREAK MINE”

Chris grabbed his jacket, his expression indifferent. “Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m doing. I wish you the best.”

He turned and walked out the door, leaving me standing in the middle of the room, devastated and alone. The realization of his indifference hit me like a tidal wave, and I sank to the floor, overwhelmed by the weight of his confession.
