Because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why." . That's what George tells his handicapped, husky friend Lennie every time he wants to hear it. Lennie couldn't make it alone so George watches over him and has to avert every problem that Lennie's desire for stroking soft things causes. Things like mices, or a lady's hair. . It's the American Dream they are handling. To break out of the monotonous life, have an own farm and do what they want. It keeps them going, but we all know how possible achieving it is. Beautiful is the way Steinbeck describes the nature in the beginning and in the end, but beautiful is also this friendship, and dreadful too. It's a simple story about loneliness and how important it is, to have someone near you. It's a story that shakes it's readers and I love to be shaken.
