“send all the heat of the flaming sun into their veins till life is done. spread it fast as the seeds on the wind till they find themselves good and thinned. then, strike royals down with fatal blow and set to grief our dreaded foe. though, should he successful be, in healing all and setting them free, let the fires be thrice as hot, and let those who care for him see him rot. yes, when all is passed and all is through, strike him down and bid him adieu.”
With a magical plague spreading through Enchancia, being cast by the heavens only knows who, and stars only knows where, it's up to one of the last Restoration mages in the Kingdoms to keep Enchancia alive long enough to figure out what is causing this madness to occur.
But, when faced with the choice to stop things at the source, and spare his friends and chosen family, or save his own life … what's a very lonely sorcerer to chose? Surely, there's got to be something to be said for having a little faith that they might save him too?
Hi Hi! So, I have a nice long letter at the very beginning of the fic for folks who want a little bit of the backstory of how this came to be. But, I'm hella knew to this fandom because I got sucked into it by my two year old. Then, I became more into it than the two year old because sometimes that's how things done, do work in the world. I posted the first 2 chapters + the opening letter because I'll be gone for the weekend. But, expect things to move kinda slow. I'm a perpetual over-editor and I have a tiny human. So, bear with me. Basically though, I'm writing a story with Cedric as the centerpiece and the rest of the cast rotating around him. All of the characters are featured relatively prominently. But, he is the focus. I've been lurking and looking at a lot of the beautiful art. Laughing at a lot of the jokes. (Y'all are funny people.) I'll say it here, though I said it in my opening letter, I am a parent of a small child. If you're looking for that and y'all know what that is get out. I will block you. I will delete your comments. I will expel you. Gross. Gross. Gross. Gross. I didn't wanna have to say it. But, I'm saying it now. Ew. Get out. To the rest of you, hello. Come in. Enjoy. How are you? Thank you for reading. 💚💜 Pip

Baileywick noticing when Sofia is overstimulated during events and offering her a moment away from the crowd. He would definitely notice these kinds of things since he's very attentive towards the royal family and their needs. Sofia's parents would absolutely allow her some time in another room if she wants. Baileywick would even stay with Sofia if she doesn't plan on going back out to keep her company, and would even make peppermint tea

I continue to draw characters from children's cartoons. This time Roland and Baileywick, and also a small sketch with Cedric. I like how his face turned out

Sofia the First Alternate Universe
Hi everyone! A few days ago I was thinking about an AU where the dynamics of Sofia and Cedric's friendship changes a bit. I have finally decided to share it, what better time than this week that celebrates their friendship.
Royal Pariahs
"Bad" Sofia and "Good" Cedric
In this alternate universe, when Sofia arrives at the palace, she starts having behavioral issues due to her inability to fit into royal life and the constant rejection from Amber and other royals. In contrast, Cedric, although still the same grumpy character with a past marked by the incident and lifelong bullying, has found a way to cope in this universe. As a result, he has given up on the idea of taking over the kingdom.
Since Cedric doesn’t attempt to steal the amulet, the events of "Once Upon a Princess" don't unfold as they should. Because no one at the party freezes, Sofia never connects with Amber, who continues to torment her, resentful that the castle staff seems to prefer Sofia.
This rejection fuels Sofia's resentment towards her new family; she refuses to call Amber "sister" and rejects referring to Roland as "dad." The only member of the royal family with whom she has a decent relationship is James, who has tried to support her in adapting to Royal Prep.
Despite everything, Sofia remains a sweet and kind person to everyone who isn’t royalty—a group she has come to despise due to the endless rules and expectations they imposed on her.
The Amulet of Avalor hasn’t been able to help her in this universe because, as a result of her bad behavior, it frequently punished her and eventually, she decided to take it off. After all, Sofia sees no problem in breaking the promise she made to King Roland, who has done little to stop Amber's teasing.
After all the teasing she has received since arriving, Sofia refuses to adhere to the protocols and rules as a form of rebellion to show her discontent. She refuses to wear her tiara or any other kind of jewelry, deliberately messes up her hair, and doesn’t care about maintaining her dress. She believes this is a way to annoy King Roland and Amber, breaking with the perfection that she believes is expected of her.
The friendship of Sofia and Cedric
Sofia is still interested in magic, which leads her to meet Cedric and become his apprentice, as in the original storyline. However, this Sofia soon realizes how King Roland and others treat Cedric. Since she is also rejected by the Royals, she identifies with him.
Cedric, on the other hand, sees part of his own story reflected in the young princess, leading him to care for her and try to advise her so she doesn’t end up like him.
Their friendship works somewhat in reverse.
Tumblr media
1. Sofia tries to steer Cedric toward villainy:
After a year in the palace with no improvement in her situation, Sofia is determined to ruin the King and Amber. After learning a bit about Cedric’s past through Baileywick, she comes up with the idea that they could both seek revenge.
Sofia wants revenge for how Amber and other Royals have treated her because of her commoner origins and believes Cedric should do the same for the years of mockery and humiliation he has endured.
However, Cedric isn’t interested, having left villainy behind after a failed attempt in his youth. Though Sofia constantly tempts him with childish ideas to annoy the King, Cedric realizes this wouldn’t get them anywhere, especially Sofia.
2. Cedric tries to help Sofia with her family situation:
Cedric enjoys helping Sofia annoy Amber and other princesses at Royal Prep with spells and poorly enchanted objects, thinking it helps her cope with her tough life. However, one night he overhears a conversation between Queen Miranda and Sofia he realizes that these "revenge" schemes are only hurting Sofia more than anyone else.
Cedric reflects on where this path is leading her, imagining a future where Sofia is rejected and excluded like him. Determined to prevent that outcome, Cedric starts helping Sofia adapt to palace life as best he can.
With Baileywick’s help, Cedric teaches Sofia some of the etiquette she had previously refused to learn, while Sofia helps him overcome his fear of performing spells in front of others. This process is healing for both of them; they support each other in improving their relationships with others in the palace.
Together, they face setbacks and celebrate small victories, working side by side to change their lives. Essentially, they both try to improve their lives together.
And that's basically it. I just wanted an excuse for Sofia to act a little more like a mischievous child and Cedric as a concerned adult. Although Cedric joins in on her antics sometimes.
In the same way, I have written a little fic where Cedric teaches the Sofia of this universe to dance:
That's all! Have a nice AntiC*dfia week everyone!

Ooooooo fascinatingggg
So to start My analysis, I gotta preface something: I tend to look at these things through two lenses, so to speak; a narrative lens, and a meta lens. Narrative means I take things in canon as they are in the narrative, examining it exclusively in the context of the world that was built. Meta means I take into account the fact that this is media, and the fact of what kind of media it is is significant in the point of my analysis. Personally, when analyzing shows like Sofia the First, which are admittedly shows aimed at children, I take note of the meta perspective way more than I would for a show more aimed at adults, like Bridgerton for example, because kids shows have to be a little bit more self-aware of themselves as shows in order to better appeal to kids.
With this in mind, I've got Thoughts lmao /pos
Narratively, Roland does use Cedric to ensure his people don't go hungry (The Baker King, he has Cedric use his magical grow-fast powder on the villagers gardens cause they aren't growing enough food). Meta-ly, if Cedric's magic were used to fix every problem, then that kind of defeats the point of the show, to teach young children how to go about solving different problems in a narrative way instead of a forth-wall breaking, in your face way like Dora the Explorer!
Narratively, if Roland used Cedric's magic to its full potential (which he never would because he doesn't always trust Cedric's magic ever since The Incident, and I say always because to have little faith is to have some faith), then there would be way less jobs in Enchancia and way more stress on Cedric, because he'd essentially take over Baileywick's job as steward of the entire castle.
Narratively, Cedric would never make himself a castle because it was never actually Being A King that he wanted. He wanted the power and respect being king would've given him, thus granting him something that was continuously denied him his entire childhood. That's why he stayed, and I agree with Shy, narratively, I think he latched onto the Amulet because he doubted his own abilities thanks to everyone else doubting his abilities.
Narratively, you can fix everything with magic because it's established how broad and incredible magic can be in the world. Metaly, you could never fix everything with magic, because magic doesn't exist in that way in real life, so the children watching this show have to learn through osmosis how to fix these kinds of problems the way Sofia would, which is why she's so patient and kind and loving; she's teaching little girls especially how to act like the princess a lot of them want to be.
As for all the kids' problems in Baileywick's Day Off being solved by Cedric, narratively, the kids trust Baileywick way more and he was closer than Cedric was up in his tower, which leads to my meta reason why Cedric wasn't involved: that episode in particular set up what exactly Baileywick does within the castle and how valuable and loved he is by the royal family. It sets up his character properly beyond his brief introduction in Once Upon A Princess and any small scenes he had in the other eight episodes prior, this is his first Big episode. It shows how dedicated Baileywick is to the royal family and how that dedication is appreciated and rewarded by the kids feeling bad for taking away from Baileywick's day off (even Sofia asked him to do something for her!) and the whole family but especially the kids setting up this little intimate party for him with all the things Baileywick was going to do with his brother that they prevented by needing him, and Baileywick choosing them over his time off. It sets up their connections, dynamics, and relationships that continue over the course of the entire series. So if the kids did ask Cedric instead of Baileywick, then we as the audience wouldn't get that establishing of a dynamic and Baileywick wouldn't have that level of fleshed-out-ness that he does in canon!
Thinking about how most of the problems in the STF episodes could have been easily fixed by Cedric's spells
Thinking about how Cedric's spells can literally turn rocks into rubies and simply make food appear out of thin air, so there should be no poverty or hunger if they gave wealth and food to the poor
Thinking about how the servants are unnecessary because Cedric's spells can make food (enchanted feast episode), dissapear and reappear anywhere he wants which means he can teleport because he was alive in the rest of the movie which can maybe mean that he can teleport people since he did it with objects and also himself (once upon a princess), make houses appear even tho he made a gingebread house (king for a day), GOD I JUST REMEMBERED IT, USE STONES TO CREATE HOUSES IN MERE SECONDS (cedric be good), duplicate stuff which means he can duplicate blankets and clothes for the poor (sofia the second), make vegetables grow faster (that episode when the royal family turns into bakers i unfortunately forgor the name of it but his spell was mentioned at the start of the episode)
Thinking about the fact that if Roland focused on hiring sorcerers instead of servants his kingdom and castle would be even better and more organized
Dust? Making dust dissapear spell idc if it's not canon. Cleaning? They can use a cleaning spell OR they can enchant the brooms and soaps to clean alone which is not uncommon in disney films. Guards? The castle will be full of trained sorcerers, which living being with consciousness would have the courage to invade a place like this??!?? Also they could create a magic barrier around the castle, I also don't care if it's not canon it just makes sense. Dress the children? Spell to create outfits bibidi bobidi boo or even the living clothes that can fit the body by themselves
"You can't fix everything with magic"
Yes. yes you can. most of it
I'm dead serious
You know that theory about Cedric being the first's storyteller grand grand grand son? And The first storyteller was one of the first Enchancian sorcerers? He made a secret library for himself. Ok, Cedric made a stone house and also a gingebread house but why can't he make a castle for himself
"He can't do it because it's a very complicated spell"
Why instead of wasting his time grumbling about not being king he can't just spend this time searching for a kind of architecture spell or something
He can make his king outfit- bibidi bobbidi boo (and HE DID MADE HIS KING OUTFIT IN THE SHOW)
Vor hypnotized them with a spell, why didn't cedric considered hypnotizing the royal family and locked them somewhere while he took over the kingdom?
He literally choose to froze them instead, make it make sense
I just remembered he simply redecorated the throne room in the day of the sorcerers episode
HE CAN MAKE A CASTLE IF HE WANTED TO

As Sofia gets older, I could imagine her going towards age regression, whether by choice or it just sorta happens (if I had a dollar every time I either hced a character as an age regressor or just made an oc that did I'd have like...5 dollars).
She had to grow up too soon too quickly, from her bio dad's death at what I'm assuming to be around 4 or 5, to her life essentially getting thrown upside down at 8 with her new step family, to all of the kingdom/world-saving things she had to go to before even entering middle school age. Age regression would allow her to be the child she never got to be, either by her own choice or her brain going "Yeah you need this" (involuntary regression).
I imagine when she regresses it'd be around her age in the series, in that 8-12 age, or maybe even to roughly 6 like in your Papa fic when it's a particularly difficult time. She'd most likely want to be on her own/isolate herself when/if she feels it coming on, a mix of fear and somewhat shame. I also imagine when Cedric finds out about it (perhaps she involuntarily regresses in front of him bc of a trigger), he'd be an excellent caretaker and he would not want her to be alone during the time she's little in part for caring for her and in part for her safety. The same with Baileywick ngl, the man is basically an uncle to her in the show.
Yes, I've thought about this too! I've actually had a oneshot idea surrounding this for a few weeks now. A scare from a villain, I imagine something similar to what happened in "In Cedric We Trust" scares Sofia into regression, and she's rendered mute from the shock. Cedric's there with her and pieces everything together from her mannerisms and what he's read in the past.
It would definitely be something she tries to keep to herself. I feel like in a way, Sofia's built a lot of her character on being really mature and smart, I have no doubt she's gotten "You're so mature for your age!" Further fueling the expectation of her being above her years, making her feel she constantly has to keep that mask up despite just being a little girl underneath it.
I agree Cedric would be an amazing caretaker for her when she slips around him! He might even feel like it's his chance to have a do-over with younger Sofia, seeing as her little age would have been before his redemption. I think she'd go to him in times she really, really needs comfort when she's in that state, like having a nightmare. (His paternal instincts would also go haywire omg!!!!) I can also imagine him noticing she's slipped whilst out in public, perhaps a ball, and he makes up a reason for her to leave because he knows she doesn't like being regressed around people. "The princess has a bad headache, I'll take her back to her room." "The princess is tired, I believe she left to take a nap." If he can't, then he keeps a close eye on her, offering assistance and comforting her.
I can just see him being so gentle and kind, assuring her it's okay, she's safe with him and she can be a little girl again, he'll handle everything and she can just enjoy feeling young without all of the pressure.

I love it when shows get a guy to voice a regular character on a show and they just make said character into the voice actors sona, a la Vincent Price as Vincent Van Ghoul in the thirteen ghosts of Scooby Doo or Tim Gunn as Baileywick in Sofia the first

character opinion bingo - slickwell pls
Tumblr media
He's such a fun character, I wish we found out why he wanted Baileywick's job so so bad. Probably cause Magnus treats him awful.
Once I was so sleep-deprived and brain-fried from crying that I wrote a fanfic about Greylock cheating on Cedric with him. It's in my psychology notebook which is quite fitting, I must say.

Baileywick for character opinion bingo!
Tumblr media
Baileywick is honestly such a fun guy! Damn shame he didn't appear much in season 3 and 4! I like that we got a few episodes with him as the focus tho!
I honestly will never understand his workaholic grindset he has going on in his head (like genuinely WHY is so passionate about this) but that's part of what makes him interesting <33

Here’s a fun breakdown imagining the *Sofia the First* characters as animals, based on their personalities, roles, and traits!
Of course, it is subject to change 😉☺️
1. Sofia – Deer
Gentle and kind, Sofia’s curiosity and compassion would make her a perfect fit for a deer. Graceful and caring, she’d be the friend that everyone feels comfortable approaching.
2. Amber– Peacock
Amber loves attention, elegance, and looking her best. A peacock captures her beauty and flair, especially with those regal feathers and her sense of importance!
3. James – Fox
James is clever, mischievous, and sometimes a bit cheeky. A fox would embody his resourcefulness and charm, while also highlighting his playful spirit.
4. Cedric – Owl
Known for his wisdom and magical prowess, Cedric as an owl would represent his knowledge and slightly mysterious nature. Plus, owls are often solitary, mirroring Cedric's preference for peace and quiet in his tower.
5. Baileywick – Sheepdog
Loyal, hardworking, and always looking out for everyone, Baileywick’s reliability would be captured perfectly as a sheepdog. His dedication to the royal family and gentle approach to his duties make this a good fit.
6. Queen Miranda – Swan
Elegant and nurturing, Queen Miranda as a swan reflects her grace and calm demeanor. Swans are known for their devotion, just like Miranda’s caring nature toward her family.
7. King Roland II – Lion
As the ruler, King Roland’s sense of authority and leadership makes him an ideal lion. Lions are protective, bold, and carry a regal air, much like King Roland with his family and kingdom.
8. Prince Zandar – Monkey
Zandar’s sense of adventure, playfulness, and sometimes goofy nature would be well-matched with a monkey. They’re curious and sociable, much like Zandar’s role in Sofia’s friend group.
9. Princess Hildegard – Cat
Hildegard’s refined, independent nature would make her a great cat. She has a certain elegance and sometimes aloofness, similar to a cat’s demeanor.
10. Princess Clio – Rabbit
Clio is gentle, sweet, and supportive, much like a rabbit. Rabbits are friendly and observant, always there for their friends, which reflects Clio’s personality.
11. Crystal – Hummingbird
Full of energy and always ready for anything, Crystal as a hummingbird would capture her enthusiasm and excitement, as well as her ability to be everywhere at once.
12. Vivian – Hedgehog
Vivian is shy but can be brave and loyal when she opens up. A hedgehog would represent her sensitive side as well as her desire for a quiet life, with a bit of hidden strength.
13. Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather – **Bluebirds
As magical protectors, bluebirds would embody the fairies’ wisdom, guidance, and their desire to help others soar. Bluebirds also represent cheerfulness and positivity, much like their personalities.

Part 2: A War In Enchancia? Is There Just Cause?
Yes. I say this only because, in my estimation, Cedric was kind of right when calling Roland out on "The Day of the Sorcerers." I will extrapolate on this. Roland wasn’t a good king. He was impulsive. He did and does dangerous things. He puts people at risk for not so great reasons. For one, Roland takes absolutely no reasonable accountability for using the Wishing Well to, basically, kill his wife. Granted, I'm sure he did not know that would be the end cause of his wish. I'm sure he was heartbroken over it. Yet, it remains that his impulsivity is dangerous. We also see this in the Wassalia episode, in which, he risks not only his own life over a few extra gifts for his children, but he also puts Baileywick in danger. Baileywick is the steward of their country. He would be the person to advise either Amber or James in Roland's absence should one of the two of them rise to a Regency position in the event of Roland's death. He puts both of them in a situation where they would be incapacitated, and it is one of the greatest acts of political stupidity I've ever witnessed. While Roland may be an outwardly beloved king because, outwardly, he's a loveable doofus. His life style would also indicate that taxes are high as a kite in that Kingdom. Maybe they're a prosperous country (they seem to be), but how much so? Like, sure, you have decent public education. However, you also have your kids turning drinking water into chocolate milk while you galavant off into the forest with your wife to doodle. He doesn't check the blueprints for the infrastructure of his Kingdom before building roads to ensure that he isn't killing off sentient beings.
There were whole hosts of things that Roland I and Roland II should have been looking into in order to avoid harming their sentient magical neighbors. Roland sees leadership as a popularity contest. We see this when he allows space for Miss Nettle, as Sasha the Sorceress, to take over a feast after having just met her because he prizes a good show over knowing a person’s true nature. (Granted that Cedric is claiming to be evil at that point, but Roland still had a longer running relationship with him than Sasha the Sorceress. He was also not planning to do anything actively evil in that episode.) Besides that, Cedric is the one who fixes Roland’s mistake in that case despite the humiliation. On the subject of Cedric, Roland II also permits the continued psychological abuse of one of his staff members by other kingdoms that began under his father. Beginning in the reign of Roland I, when "the Incident" occured, the psychological abuse of a minor was rampantly permitted and encouraged throughout the nobility. While no one was in the room when the two potions were mixed, a through investigation into the actual "scene of the crime" as it were was, apparently, never done. Instead, Enchancia chose to gaslight a 7-9 year old boy into thinking the entire accident was his fault until he was somewhere between 39-41 years old. Atonement for the years of psychological abuse is never shown in the series and the only moment we see of the character in question seeking restitution is seen as a supreme act of villainy as opposed to a legitimate call out of the treatment faced by a screwed up system of bigotry and oppression. What I'm saying is there would be actual reasons psycho-social reasons for Cedric to have overthrown Roland and for it to be completely justified. If we think about what other Disney movies/ shows have said of similar characters and situations, we could fall back on Esmeralda's line about Quasimodo "You saw what those people did out there? To let them torture that poor boy? I thought if just one person could stand up to them ..." (Or something to that effect. I'm paraphrasing.) I fail to see what makes that different, at least, on a CAUSE level. (We'll get into the other parts later. Let me cook.) Additionally, based on what we see from the servants in the show, they are overworked. They only have one assigned day off, all of them together, and they're required to spend it on a picnic with Roland and with each other. Now, granted, I don't know if they can take more time off or not. BUT! We see what happens when Baileywick tries to take time off. The kids keep trying to eat into it. Now, you may claim that Baileywick is just Baileywick and he has free will and the autonomy to say "no." The kids also learn a lesson from this. HOWEVER!! Kids learn from what they see the adults doing, AND their behavior is a precedent set by Roland/ castle norms. Roland does have a tendency to abandon his people and problems when they arise. Finale on the boat? Need I say more? Amber makes a better Queen in the finale and she's what ... twelve? Thirteen? So, based on Enchancian culture from the beginning of Roland the First's rule through the rule of Roland II there would be justification for several different characters to hold an uprising over Roland based on a lack of respect for their dignity as human beings and to their autonomy and their rights as humans.
Part 1|| Part 2|| Part 3 &4 || Part 5 & 6 || Part 7 & 8
