Èr is the second child and the oldest son of Jie and Zen. He’s a traveler, who probably seen the whole world by now but is still searching for adventures together with his emergency foo- ahem… I mean his loyal companion Pit!

Species: fox demon (three-tailed)
Gender: male

Occupation(s): traveler

Place of birth: Red fang mountain

Friends/Allies:

Status: alive
Abilities:
No info
Personality:
Since the start Èr’s personality was making him pretty disliked. He tends to be rude, ironic, sceptical, impatient, ungrateful and has no respect for others. Even his parents (who love him very much) knows how much of a brat he is. If anything Èr learned to hide his true nature behind the mask of kindness and generosity which sometimes cause confusion to others. He also might sometimes use some manipulation but despite everything Èr can be really really selfless when it comes to those he cherishes, when his mother was captured he left everything and came back to the kingdom as soon as possible. Still Èr will hide his emotions to his friends from them and the world to make sure none of his enemies would harm them.
History:
Èr was born on Red Fang mountain as the second child of Jie and Zen. Despite having a big chance to take the position of successor from his sister it was never his intention. The reason behind that was the lack of purpose he felt until one of his mother’s closest friend didn’t tell him about his adventures and travels. It caused Èr to fill a hunger of knowledge about humans and their way of living and since there were almost no humans in Fox Kingdom he decided to travel.
His first adventure lasted 5 years, at that time he made some friends, learned a lot about culture of humans around the world and even found his purpose, it all ended when he had to come back because of the incident. When he came back Jie already left the kingdom and he couldn’t meet her before she settled in Megapolis. He continued his travels only after making sure she’s safe but this time with new goal- to find out what happened when he was absent…
When it comes to Pit, the story is pretty short, Èr met him (by accident), saved him (by accident) and then made him immortal (also by accident). Since that time Pit thinks of him as his saviour and keeps him company even though his master can be pretty heartless or ungrateful towards him.
Relationships with canon characters (opinions):
No info
Relationships with my ocs (opinions):
Jie
Jie was the very first person Èr learned to respect, he loves her very much. She is the only person Èr never wants to worry and he’s full of grief because of what she had to go through.
Zen
At first Èr was really disrespectful towards his father, seeing him as a weak men swayed by emotions, until he realised how wrong he was. He knows how much in pain Zen is after parting ways with his wife but is still able to rule the kingdom and keep his head high, yet if his father would ask for help Èr would do anything to help him.
Yī
Èr always thought of himself as the oldest kid, that’s why he was very protective of his ‘younger’ sister. He spent a lot of time with her to make sure that she’s going to grow up to be a clever adult, he would also make sure that no man would approach his sister. When he heard about a boy who had a crush on Yī, Èr immediately got closer to him to make sure that he won’t do anything suspicious (the fact that they ended up as friends is the other thing). Yī was also the first friend of Èr so he would get jealous seeing her spend time with others. He also often teased her which sometimes lead to fights between them. In the end all his actions caused their relationship to be pretty fierce. From the incident both of them merely talks with each other.
Sān
Sān’s personality is the opposite of Èr’s. While Èr is rude and cunning his brother is honest and kind, sometimes even naive. Èr would often use it to make fun of him but in the end no matter what he did nothing could make Sān dislike him. Èr likes to believe that to this day Sān would forgive him everything.
Trivia:
- He usually is seen in his human disguise since this way he catches less attention
- Pit isn’t Èr’s only companion, (though he’s been with him the longest) Èr travels with others too, he even considers some of them a family
- Practically every part of his clothing is either a gift or was stolen
- The accessory of his headband is a thing passed down between generations in his father’s family
- The necklace he’s wearing was a gift from his sister but… it was meant for someone else
- Èr spent a lot of time in Japan
- Èr shows his true nature only in front of people he trusts, which caused a few misunderstandings between him and his companions, when he suddenly started acting cold towards them
- In some countries he’s wanted dead
- Before Jie was captured Èr was merely home so he was forced by his mother to write letters everyday so that his family could be sure he’s safe, sometimes the one delivering the letters was Pit

Gaga's subs continue to be solid (is it because they had more time?). This post is just my own documentation of terms that are probably specific to mainland China that I had to look up.
二道販子 (èr dào fàn zǐ) = scalper (Youtube got this)
鯰魚 (nián yú) = catfish
老年公眾號 (lǎo nián gōng zhòng hào) = official accounts in wechat geared towards the elderly (this is my best guess)
#blue canvas of youthful days#i think checking the subs as thoroughly as i can manage for 3 episodes is enough#i feel good about this team of translators#i will be quiet now#this one rambles#this one translates

Notes
(translations below are all mine):
This is a homework poem - from many weeks back xD - that I’d like to share. It’s by Tao Yuanming, a poet whose lifetime spanned the late Eastern Jin Dynasty and early Liu Song Dynasty.
I really like his writing, and one thing I appreciate a lot about it is that he (usually) writes very plainly, but if we think about it a little, we can uncover hidden delights! He’s also just a very cute* person in general, which I think is what makes reading his works such a pleasure xD It also feels quite safe leaving this poem without any commentary because of the above mentioned quality of his writing - perhaps the only thing that needed some clarification was 志学, which was glossed in the translation anyway.
So! Feel free to leave a message and tell me if I’m right, and also what you spot!
Also, as Jing said in the chat, tag yourself! Which lazy kid are you? :P
Oh and Tao Yuanming is a super famous writer of the Northern and Southern Dynasties actually, so you can probably look him up very easily if you want to. I’m just trying something different with him where I want to go through all of his works, and then go snooping through other people’s writing about his life.
* I said he was very cute earlier. Here is proof in his 归园田居·其三 Retiring to Fields and Home (part three).
种豆南山下 - Planting beans ‘neath the Southern Mountains, 草盛豆苗稀 - weeds abound, while the seedlings are sparse. 晨兴理荒秽 - Rising with the dawn to cull the weeds, 带月荷锄归 - retiring with the moon and a shouldered hoe; 道狭草木长 - the paths are narrow, the grasses tall, 夕露沾我衣 - and the evening dew dampens my clothes. 衣沾不足惜 - But dampened clothes aren’t worth lamenting, 但使愿无违 - so long as my ideals and actions, aligned, remain.
When he’s in a lighthearted mood, he likes to raise his readers’ expectations or tease at something and then reveal a hilarious twist. And often it’s very good naturedly self deprecating without being disparaging or underselling himself, so you laugh with him but not at him.
For example, in an earlier part (Part Two) of the above poem, he talks about the peaceful rural retirement with down-to-earth neighbours and the things he is doing with his land. Then in part three, he starts off with a romantic-ish image only to dash it immediately with the next paired line, stated soooooo proudly. It gets funnier with every addition as you realise how hard he worked to get that result. But then there is a twist again - he says, all this and he doesn’t mind! Why not? Because it was his choice. Bro is truly committing to the unworldly farming life.
…Anyway, there are six parts to 归园田居. I highly recommend reading it all if you can because I’m totally not doing him any justice xD
For all of y’all who can read Chinese with a bit of help, here is another piece of his writing related to his kids. They make quite a number of cameos in his other poems, but I chose this one because it's actually addressed to them! He was writing in anticipation of the birth of his first son - if internet sources are to be believed.
Note: Veryyyyyyy rough, first draft-y sort of translation. I was just trying to get the meaning across as easily as possible.
Long, long ago, my ancestor lived; Yao, who was of Tao and Tang. In the distant past, honoured at Yu, Danzhu paved glory for generations after. Surnamed Yulong, they served in Xia, as Shiwei, were wings to Shang; Great Minister over the Masses, Tao Shu led our clan’s rise.
The chaos of the Warring States, the fall of weakened Zhou; the Feng fades into his forest, hermits retire to their mountains. The Qiulong winds through cloud, whales ride monstrous waves; heaven-blessed was the coming of Han, it favoured Marquis Min.
Illustrious Marquis Min; the time for him and his Emperor just arrived. Sword in hand against the wind, he achieved impressive martial feats. Fulfilling his lord's promise of everlasting glory, he was bestowed land, titles. And a tireless, diligent Chancellor followed in the footsteps of his father. The gushing of a river long from its source, the luxuriance of towering trees; all streams began from somewhere, all branches grow from some trunk. There is time to speak or be silent, for fortune has sharp vicissitudes; In our Jin at its zenith, Changsha’s brilliant achievements shined.
The fearsome, heroic Duke Huan of Changsha, with outstanding merits and virtue upon whom the Son of Heaven bestowed a hereditary title, leads wars in the South. Victory achieved, he retires home, unwavering despite glory and favour. Who dares say that such a heart can be easily found in recent times?
Rigorous he was, my grandfather, careful to the end as he was at the start. Fair and upright was his influence at Court; wisdom spread through his lands. Praiseworthy was my late fathers benevolence, though he sought no fame. He gave himself to Office and took both gain and loss with equanimity.
Lamenting my ignorance, I look to my ancestors, unable to reach their heights. I was ashamed, for despite my greying hair, alone in my family I stand. Among three thousand crimes, gravest - to leave no descendants. Over this I was deeply worried… until I heard your babbling cries.
Observing the portents on this good day, divining this to be a good time, I named you Yan, gave you the courtesy name of Qiusi. Be respectful and aspiring day or night; remember well your name as Kong Ji remembered his. Such is my wish for you.
A diseased man’s son was born at night; with lamp and urgency he went to check. Every person, being ordinary, would have such a worry; I am no different. Witnessing your birth, truly, I wish for your future success. Though something often said by man, the sentiment in this is sincere and true.
Days and months will pass swiftly, my son will leave childhood behind. Fortune's roots are always there, disaster also easily arrives. Be diligent: rise early, sleep late; may you be blessed with talent and success. But if you do not, then alas, though that is also fine.
(Referenced this source and this one for annotations)
I thought the intertwining of the imagined past and illustrious connections with traceable ancestors, grandparents and parents was a very charming way of expressing this narrative. Especially so when you think about the way the whole longass grandmother story is told shapes the message to his son! Noticing his efforts to emphasize the great achievements that could come about because of opportunity and fortune right after his rather soul stirring introduction (Parts 1 and 2) was DELIGHTFUL and actually very touching.
What makes a man good? Diligence, steadiness and dedication to doing what is good and right. What makes a man great? First, opportunity i.e. luck, but also, most importantly - strength of character - not losing sight of his heart despite power or fame.
All that leads up to his concluding verses - that it's human nature for parents to wish sincerely that their children will do well, so that their own regrets in life do not repeat. But the world is so unpredictable! Just do your best to lay the foundations for fortune when it arrives, then let things happen as they will, and let's be contented whatever the outcome.
Just taking his attitude at face value, what an un-stressful way to live life :D !!!!!!!!
And after reading this poem, how do you feel about Admonishing Sons that we started with in this post? GO read it again!
I love him so much.

«If we analyze the cowherd character according to (the tale’s) earlier version, we will find that many of the social and psychological characteristics of the cowherd are consistent with a rapist».

Spider Queen

?
Status: alive
Abilities:
illusion- Jie can create an illusion of objects, sometimes places, she uses it mainly in fights but it’s no use against enemies with strong senses (Macaque) or the users of gold vision (MK and Wukong)
shape shifting- Jie can transform into a fox, human or into a male version of herself. She can also change into one of her acquaintances (for example MK) but can also change parts of her body (like hair colour). While doing so she needs to stay focus or she will come back to her true form, that’s why she doesn’t use this ability while fighting
energy manipulation- Jie can use her energy to attack an enemy. It’s something that helps her while fighting with opponents stronger than her but because of how much energy it costs Jie uses it mainly as an emergency. (This ability allowed her to break the contract with her previous masters)
ability to see and gather souls- Jie can see souls of living and distinguish between them. This way she can recognise the power and personality of their owners. She can also steal the souls and then transform them into energy to give herself strength (though she is forbidden from doing that right now)
teleportation- Jie can teleport to many places as long as she knows the location and has enough energy for that, the distance depends on how much energy she has.
six sense- Jie has the ability to feel danger before it harms her in any way, it works only when the one threatened is her.
strong sense of smell- Jie has a strong sense of smell. It can be helpful but it’s becoming a problem once she’s close to something with an unpleasant smell
possession- Jie can posses the abilities and body of creatures she choose to possess. But it works only when the body’s souls is weak or gone
half immortality- Jie doesn’t age nor caught diseases but she can still be killed
astral projection- Jie is able to separate part of her soul from her body and wander like a ghost. It's different from Wukong's ability because Jie can't control her body while being a projection, once her soul comes back to its place she can keep her memories.
Personality:
Jie seems to be someone quiet, calm and cold hearted because that’s how she wants others to see her. In fact she can be very nervous or care deeply about someone but she won’t show it. She doesn’t show her true feelings if she doesn’t need to. She also likes to spend time alone, after spending hundreds years on her own she feels uncomfortable with other people. Without the ability to start a conservation she feels just anxious. She barely talks about the things she likes.
Jie has problem with trusting others and she doesn’t see herself as a trustworthy person either because she always puts herself and things of a high value to her first when she’s in danger. Sometimes she catches herself being carefree near MK’s group or Wukong but will immediately scold herself for that, she knows her place or at least she thinks she does. Jie isn’t sure whether she’s good or bad person and doesn’t accept others opinions about it. She is someone who doesn’t want to be hurt but she’s much more afraid of hurting others, she’s living with a ghost of her past and a lot of guilt.
Despite her being pretty sceptical and cold Jie can sometimes be a good listener and even better advisor, she actually enjoys being listened. When she starts doing something she makes sure to do it as well as possible
History:
Not much is known about Jie’s history yet, the only part we currently know for sure is that Jie worked in the palace of Demon Fox King, then took over the crown and ruled the kingdom on her own for hundreds while causing many wars. At that time she got married and had three kids. Later Jie was captured by the celestials and judged by the Jade Emperor who took away her title and sealed half of her power. Later for some reason she left the kingdom and traveled while trying to avoid Monkey King and the pilgrims so that she wouldn’t get killed. At the end of her journey she started living near the mountain where Monkey King sealed DBK, later the place became Megapolis where Jie lives till now. When DBK’s family planned to release him Jie decided to join forces with Monkey King to protect her peaceful life, to do that she became his servant.
Besides that it was stated that Jie knows the smell of underworld and probably has some connection to LBD. She also suffers from trauma which we yet don’t know when and where started.
Relationships with canon characters(opinions):
Sun Wukong:
Jie is Wukong’s servant, she spends with him a lot of time but the great Monkey King still keeps surprising her with his immaturity and energy. Despite her efforts to keep the distance between them Jie finds herself more and more relaxed in his presence, yet she keeps her guard up because she knows too well that you shouldn’t allow yourself to depend on someone else than yourself. But even if she doesn’t want to admit it yet, the fact that Wukong starts trusting her more and more makes her happy.
MK
You can easily guess what Jie though about MK when she found out that the stability of her life depends on some delivery boy. It took her some time to accept him as her master’s successor but as someone who can see people’s souls she couldn’t disagree that he was pretty much a honest and good hearted kid. He also showed her that he can work hard and that he truly cares about others safety. What I must add is that MK’s childish behaviour and energy annoys Jie but reminds her of her youngest son at the same time.
Mei
Jie still can’t forget the chills she got when she first met Mei. From the beginning she could say that this girl has a really strong soul which is so wild that it can barely stay in one place and that ominous energy in her body… but anyway- when Jie noticed that Mei is the descendant of the dragon she wasn’t too happy about it, later when she followed the bull clone into Mei’s house to make sure it won’t lay a hand on the Dragon Blade she got to know Mei better and felt bad about her circumstances. Then when Mei wielded her sword Jie was honestly terrified since Mei in her eyes is both powerful and dangerously unstable but when Jie noticed how strong and determinate she is to protect her friends she though of her old good friend and decided to just keep an eye on Mei for now. (Mei also adores Gou so she’s currently Jie’s favourite)
Pigsy
Jie doesn’t know a lot about him yet but she definitely loves his noodles, she’s also relieved that she’s not the only rational one taking care of that reckless Monkey Boy.
Tang
Tang was pretty suspicious of Jie when they first met, which didn’t really matter to her but she was surprised hearing him apologise. The monk’s soul is always thirst for more knowledge which makes him pretty interesting.
Sandy
Jie had her first proper conservation with him when she was going through a hard time and Sandy helper her made up her mind. You probably think that Jie sees nothing wrong with this gentle giant but don’t forget about her ability to see soul and oh man… Sandy’s soul is really weird! In her whole life Jie has never saw someone with their soul parted in half- one is gently and warm like a sunshine while the other is ominous and unpleasant to even look at. Still Jie respects him because she knows that the one to create this balance is no one else but Sandy himself and that can’t be an easy task. The only thing that Jie can’t stand is his love to cats while Jie dislikes them but she can live with that since Sandy likes Gou.
DBK family
Jie doesn’t have any opinion of them, once they try to destroy the city their her enemy and when they live quietly she doesn’t care. She wants to avoid picking a fight with them since she’s not sure whether she could fight any of them. The biggest threat is DBK but Jie believes that Wukong will handle him if needed (or at least she hopes). She had some confrontations with Princess Iron Fan but fortunately it ended well and Red Son… For Jie he’s just a very loud kid with anger issues
Spider Queen
Jie knew Spider Queen for a long time, or rather the two of them just acknowledged each other as rulers of demon kingdoms. Jie felt bad hearing about the fall of Spider demons but doesn’t approve Spider Queen’s actions, for her a Queen without her people is no longer a ruler. It would be better if Spider Queen just gave up and got a new life.
Macaque
From the start Jie isn’t a fan of that Monkey. Literally everything about him disgusts her, especially his smell of the dead and the way he tries to become a villain. Jie had only one look at his soul and noticed that it’s broken which means Macaque has been going through something but it only irritates her more because Macaque is destroying his soul more by acting against his nature which Jie finds stupid.
Yin and Jin
Honestly Jie doesn’t even remember who they are.
Lady Bone Demon

Relationships with my ocs (opinions):
Zen
I can ensure you that Jie loves Zen but as for now she doesn’t feel ready to confront him again, she feels like she failed him as a wife and even if she knows deep down that he still loves her she isn’t brave enough to look at him. Remembering him also bring some dark memories who Jie hadn’t fought off yet.
Kids
It’s similar situation to Zen, she loves them but feels like she failed them as a mother. As for now she believes they can do better without her around. She’s really proud of every single one of them and would more than happy if they could live on without thinking about their pathetic mother. (Btw by the time she left the kingdom all her kids were grown up, the youngest- Sān was around 18)
Trivia:
- Jie has a strict week-plan of chores she needs to do for Monkey King, for example: cooking, tidying his cave and also bathing Wukong’s monkey friends. For Jie it’s a pretty fun way to spend her free time but she would be more happy if her pay was bigger
- Jie actually saves money for a coffee machine
- She not only saves letters her husband sends to her but also her own, which she didn’t have a courage to send
- She’s wearing a hairpin with magnolia which she bought with Wukong because it reminds her of a magnolia tree in her old garden in Fox Kingdom
- Jie’s favourite type of coffee is cappuccino without sugar
- Starting from season 1 Jie regularly visits Sandy for a cup of tee, she developed a habit of complaining about Wukong in front of the giant
- Zen and Èr are the only ones who know when Jie lives, Zen can’t leave the kingdom since he is it’s ruler but Èr visits his mother from time to time to check up on her. This way Jie gets to know how her family is doing.
- Jie’s personality changed a lot through many parts of her life
- Before becoming Monkey King’s servant Jie had many different jobs to get money, her last job was a bookstore’s cashier but she had to quit because it was closed due to the owner’s financial issues
// The ‘?’ Are for now hiden
This is an actual Jie’s ref for season 2 of Fox Servant

Those three little words.
It cannot be just me...
When you are listening to his Secret Times, Tender Moments, Bonds, Memoria, Myths, phone calls and video calls, do you suddenly realise you were holding your breath because you thought an I love you was on the tip of his tongue?
Is it just our love for the characters making us feel this way?
Do we know the characters [writers] so well that our intuition is tingling?
Have seedlings been planted but we have overlooked them because it has not happened yet?
I think some of the changes we have seen with localisation, we could potentially hear it in the global server.
I am all for it if it is done well, in the right context, and as long as we do not lose any nuance in the translations. It does not have to be complex. I do not want it to be rushed.
As we all know, there are times where you do not hear these specific words or necessarily have to say them to know you are loved or in love. The LIs express their love in different ways all the time.
That is not to say we have not had some indirect confessions as well as some direct ones. But not specifically "I love you"...
Except from Caleb. Him saying those three little words was the catalyst that prompted these thoughts.
And there have been occasions where they have used the word like, but I wanted to hear I love you, even if the situation wasn't exactly the most appropriate, though it felt right in the moment [to me].
Alas, I feel like this is the year of love.
"Childish, brave and loved... I want to be just like you." - Xavier, Misty Silhouette 💚

"Maybe it's because... I love you a little more than you realize." - Caleb, Lucid Dream (Myth) ❤️
"Now, all of them are a witness....I brought the one I love home."- Rafayel, Boundless Seas 💜

"I will never let the girl I love be brave on her own." - Zayne, Everlasting Wish 💙
"If you were also an art piece, then whoever created you must've loved you dearly." - Sylus, Magnum Opus 🩷
How do you think each LI would say those three little words?
Would they blurt it out? Accidentally say it?
Plan something romantic to declare it?
Wait for the exact right moment?
What wording would they choose? Is it their style to specifically say I love you?
Perhaps what we have experienced so far is the extent to which we will hear it.
Though, honestly speaking, to be on the receiving end of their love is... enough. We know we are loved dearly.
