Emilie Nicolas's debut succeeded. The latter also occurred by not destroying her career. I have dealt with this discussion before – some introductions in the form of a disc could've hurt their musicians thanks to the case of their humungous triumphs. For instance, I'm surprised Of Monsters And Men are still an on-going concert. Don't take this the wrong way, My Head Is An Animal remains one of the most interesting albums from the 10's indie rock, yet they did follow the latter up with some fine albums. True, they may not reach the commercial heights of their entree, but they are not swallowed by the problems that could've been caused thanks to the LP. To be honest, I sort of assume the disc gave them the freedom they still have.

Pale Moon - Waiting for the Sun

The duo of Russia’s Nata Suschenko and Iceland’s Árni Guðjónsson of former Monsters and Men fame, Pale Moon was conceived after the release of EP “Dust of Days”. Seeing their music in new light and with an air of confidence, Árni was convinced he embarked on something totally new and adopted the moniker Pale Moon. To signal the drop of their now-released EP “Dust of Days”, Pale Moon present a flush of nostalgic textures on their latest single “Waiting for the Sun”. Harmonizing the honeyed melancholy of Nata’s twee vocals against the grind of gnarly psychedelic textures, its groovy bass lines and layered sound are sweet yet subtle in this track of carefully-measured contrasts. 

Appearing on EP “Dust of Days”, “Waiting for the Sun” is preceded by the cascading scale of jolting guitar chords from the psych-rock number “Exile” and the lofty wander of billowing track and closer “Everything is Alright”.

Rayan Sharifa vann örugglega eldri flokkinn með fullu húsi 5v í jafn mörgum skákum á æfingu sem haldin var í Mjóddinni þann 22. janúar sl. Í öðru sæti varð  Batel Goitom Haile með 4v. Síðan komu jafnir með 3v. Einar Dagur Brynjarsson og Sigurður Sveinn Guðjónsson. One Week Wonder se estrena con el excepcional Mars

Originarios de Islandia, One Week Wonder es una banda formada por dos teclistas, Árni Guðjónsson, Magnus Benedikt y el guitarrista Röggi. Árni es un ex componente del grupo de pop Islandés Of Monsters and Men que tras separarse decidió volcarse en este nuevo proyecto.

En el 2014, el trío de amigos que componen One Week Wonder se mudó a Berlín a estudiar ingeniería de sonido y durante su estancia comenzaron a grabar temas con influencias de artistas como Pink Floyd, Air y también el compositor Ennie Morricone. Este mix de influencias se convirtió en un sonido con un estilo ya familiar para muchos pero también único y personal. La voz de Magnús Benedikt Sigurðsson cautiva al oyente con su tono cálido que va en consonancia con la onda vintage del grupo que nos recuerda a las películas de antaño. A veces melancólico, a veces político, pero el hilo principal que llevan todas las canciones se convierte en un viaje.

Su primer EP Mars fue grabado en los maravillosos Trixx Studios de Berlín, armados con instrumentos vintage, una grabadora de veinticuatro canales y otros equipos analógicos.

La banda sorprendió a medios especializados con el estreno de su vídeo debut para ‘Mars‘, tema que da nombre a su primer EP. Actualmente el grupo se encuentra trabajando en su segundo álbum que presentarán a principios del 2018.

OF MONSTERS AND MEN - THE JOURNEY SO FAR 10-year anniversary video

Of Monsters and Men was formed in March 2010, specifically to participate in the Icelandic battle of the bands, Músíktilraunir. They won the competition, kick-starting a whirlwind career that is still going strong.

The history of OMAM started with Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir's solo project, Songbird. As a teenager, Nanna started writing songs and playing on her own in her home town of Garður and neighboring communities (e.g., Keflavík). She was joined by her friend Brynjar Leifsson, and later by Ragnar Þórhallsson. The three of them continued playing as Songbird, mostly performing songs written by Nanna.

In early 2010, they decided to participate in Músíktilraunir. Ragnar's friend Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson joined the band weeks before the competition, and they changed their name to Of Monsters and Men. During the competition, they performed songs that had been written for Songbird ("Phantom," "Love Love Love," and "Sugar in a Bowl").

The award for winning the competition included studio time. The four-piece added two more members - Kristján Páll Kristjánsson and Árni Guðjónsson (both of whom had previously played with Arnar in various rock bands), and used the studio time to record two new songs, "From Finner" and "Little Talks." The band thought that the former might get some airplay, but it was indeed the latter song that paved the way to stardom and continued success.

Here's to another successful 10 years, and many more after that!
