From a visionary Mexican author, a hallucinatory, revelatory, colonial revenge story that reimagines the fall of Tenochtitlan. One morning in 1519, conquistador Hernán Cortés entered the city of Tenochtitlan – today's Mexico City. Later that day, he would meet the emperor Moctezuma in a collision of two worlds, two empires, two languages, two possible futures. Cortés was accompanied by his nine captains, his troops, and his two translators: Friar Aguilar, a taciturn, former slave, and Malinalli, a strategic, former princess. Greeted at a ceremonial welcome meal by the steely princess Atotoxli, sister and wife of Moctezuma, the Spanish nearly bungle their entrance to the city. As they await their meeting with Moctezuma – who is at a political, spiritual, and physical crossroads, and relies on hallucinogens to get himself through the day and in quest for any kind of answer from the gods – the Spanish are ensconced in the labyrinthine palace. Soon, one of Cortés’s captains, Jazmín Caldera, overwhelmed by the grandeur of the city, begins to question the ease with which they were welcomed into the city, and wonders at the risks of getting out alive, much less conquering the empire. Spoiler-Free Review: Gosh but this was an intriguing journey. It kind of reminds me of the kinds of daydreams a person can come up with when they’re REALLY focused on an idea. I don’t know if this is something other people do, but there are people (myself included) who can build out entire scenarios in their heads and just play them out from all angles, from the perspective of all the characters, with all the possible outcomes that occurs to the daydreamer. This book feels like a very refined version of that.

But with that being said: the dreamlike narrative is a result of the deliberately Borgesian thrust of the narrative. Because that’s what this is, at its core: a Borgesian take on a very specific historical event. There’s no certainties here, no hard, specific truths; it forces the reader to question the relationship between “fact” and “fiction” and address the fluidity and gray areas between the two. This story is a labyrinth, and the reader must navigate the labyrinth and meditate upon the story being told.

Another way to look at this story is that it’s a reclamation, of sorts, of the historical narrative. In the dream that is this novel history is turned on its head, wrested away from the “hard truths of reality” as created and put forward by the colonizers, and instead put in the hands of the colonized. This feels extremely powerful and empowering in a way that can’t be replicated in straight historical fiction, and likely not even by alternate history narratives.

Overall this was an utterly fascinating read. It might not be the easiest to get through, since not everyone is into Borgesian-style stories, but the payoff for those who DO enjoy that kind of style and for those who stick through it is DEFINITELY worth it. The experience will also be very interesting for anyone who’s from a country with a history of colonization, especially Spanish colonization, since the narrative brings up interesting questions about the interplay between fact and fiction, and how storytelling highlights thee fluidity between the two.

La investigación puso al descubierto que cientos de mexicanos llevan sus capitales para crear empresas de papel y seguir haciendo negocios sin pagar impuestos.

En el listado aparecen repetidos varias veces algunos nombres y en ocasiones están escritos mal.

La página no da ninguna explicación de los motivos de las repeticiones y no explica si más adelante depurara el listado.

Entre los nombres más famosos están los del ex gobernador de Nuevo León, Fernando Canales Clariond, el del ex secretario de Gobernación Fernando Gómez Mont; el del empresario Gastón Azacárraga, el de Olegario Vázquez Raña y el de Ricardo Pierdant.

Más de 94.000 euros para Valencia en la subasta de las guitarras solidarias https://ift.tt/csu5CrE En la subasta, organizada por la Fundación Músicos por la Salud, en colaboración con el periodista Tony Aguilar, se han realizado 27.728 pujas por las guitarras de 65 artistas españoles e internacionales El dinero recibido irá destinado íntegramente a la rehabilitación de inmuebles y la recuperación del mobiliario de centros de día, escuelas de música y espacios dedicados a colectivos vulnerables (mayores y personas con diversidad funcional) que han sufrido daños por la DANA La Fundación Músicos por la Salud ha recaudado 94.466 euros en la subasta solidaria de guitarras de 65 artistas, en la que durante dos semanas se ha podido pujar online con el objetivo de recaudar dinero para los afectados por la DANA. En concreto, el dinero recaudado en las 27.728 pujas realizadas irá íntegramente a la rehabilitación de inmuebles y la recuperación del mobiliario de centros de día, escuelas de música y espacios dedicados a colectivos vulnerables, incluidos centros para personas mayores, con diversidad funcional y colectivos musicales de los municipios afectados, que hayan sufrido daños en su centros sociosanitarios y/o musicales, mobiliario, enseres como consecuencia de los daños ocasionados por las inundaciones del día 29 de octubre de 2024. Los interesados deberán presentar sus solicitudes a partir del día 7 de enero de 2025 y el plazo estará abierto durante un máximo de 1 mes desde esa fecha. Se analizará y resolverá cada propuesta según su orden de entrada en el registro de la entidad. La presentación de las solicitudes será a través del formulario habilitado para la tramitación electrónica, que estará disponible en la página web de la Fundación https://ift.tt/LerS3ZP. K-POP GIRL GROUP NMIXX JOINS BILLBOARD LATIN MUSIC WEEK FOR K-POP X LATIN MUSIC PANEL

Today, global music authority Billboard announced K-pop group sensation NMIXX will be joining the star-studded lineup for Billboard Latin Music Week, the longest-running and biggest Latin music industry gathering in the world. NMIXX will make history as the first K-pop group to participate in the event, and will be featured in an exclusive K-pop x Latin music panel. Celebrating its 35th anniversary, Billboard Latin Music Week returns with an unprecedented lineup of 60+ Latin stars spanning all genres. The five-day event will take place at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater from Oct. 14 - 18, 2024. K-pop girl group NMIXX will be featured in the K-pop Goes Latin with NMIXX panel, Billboard’s first-ever K-pop x Latin music conversation on Wednesday, October 16 to talk about how K-pop has exploded in the Latin market, and its future en español. 

“K-pop has cultivated a large, passionate fan base in Latin America, and now we're seeing popular K-pop artists like NMIXX embrace this by singing in Spanish.
