Perfect Days 

A film I watched between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day was Wim Wenders “Parfect Days (’23)”. A story with no beginning and no end, with timeless images and music that made two or three rounds, I was unintentionally living in the film.

The film depicts the analogue daily life of a public toilet cleaner in Tokyo, but before you know it, your heart is filled with ‘Oh, I know this person’ or some other very ordinary daily routine that emerges as a special scenary.

The film is set in downtown Tokyo, Asakusa, around Sumida and Shibuya wards, all purely tourist destinations, but this is the traditional Tokyo, the town of modest people in the Edo period. So both outsiders and insiders can fully identify with it.

It quietly depicts the most powerful strengths of the weak. Despite being in the unspoken battlefield of everyday life, he transcends it. He does not miss the sunlight through the trees or the joy. He never fights, and yet he lives unaffectedly, without giving in: ‘That's the kind of person I want to be’. It is reminding us of Kenji's masterpiece: ‘Against the rain, against the wind... never greedy, never angry, always quietly smiling...’

Am I the only one who saw true ‘Zen ideology’ and ‘ Emptiness’ in such a character?

Is Mr Wenders a reincarnation of Saigyo or Basho?

While I was thinking about this and that, the TV went on to the Hakone Ekiden marathon, a New Year's tradition, with a spectacular view of Mt Fuji and a sky reminiscent of Hokusai's ukiyo-e prints, and thought to myself that New Year in Japan is jolly good.

I had truly ‘Perfect Days’.

大晦日から元日にかけて、わたしが観たお正月映画は、ヴィム・ヴ��ンダース監督の『Parfect Days (‘23)』だ。始まりも終わりもないストーリー、タイムレスな映像と音楽に２周、３周しているうちに、思わず映画の中に住んでいた。

東京の公衆トイレ清掃員のアナログな日常を描いた作品で、「あ、こういう人知ってる」とか、ごく普通のあるあるの日常が、特別なイメージになって浮き出され、いつの間にか胸が一杯になっている。

映画の舞台は東京の下町、浅草、墨田区、渋谷区といった純粋な観光地だが、これこそが真の東京であり、江戸庶民の町である。だから、外の人間も内の人間も十分に共感できる。

弱者の最強なストレングスを静かに浮き彫りにする。日常という暗黙の戦場の中にいるにもかかわらず、彼はそれを超越している。決して戦わず、尚も屈することなく、淡々と生きている、「サウイフモノニ ワタシハナリタイ」。「雨ニモマケズ　風ニモマケズ…慾ハナク　決シテ瞋ラズ　イツモシヅカニワラッテヰル…」あの賢治の名作すら思わせる。

そんな人物像に真の「禅の思想」「空」を見たのは、わたしだけだろうか？

ヴェンダースさんはもしや、西行、または芭蕉の転生なのでしょうか？

そんなことをあれこれ考えていたら、テレビは正月恒例の箱根駅伝をを映し出していた。富士山の絶景と北斎の浮世絵を思わせる空を見て、日本のお正月はいいなあ、と思った。

まさに「パーフェクト・デイズ」だった。

Fellow saniwas, I want to share with you an experience I had. I need to talk about this with someone, without fearing I will be attacked in some way....

So, this is the situation:

Touken ranbu came to my life when I was going through a terrible depression, the Touken danshi became the most beautiful miracle in my life. After seeing the anime, musicals and stage, I was ready to meet the fandom, I needed someone to talk about the touken danshi and my fascination for them.

I met some friends and other people, but after a while, they started getting angry if I liked their favorite touken danshi.

They were like:

"he is JUST MINE, you CAN'T like the same character I like" "He is MY husband, you b*tch" "He is MY TERRITORY and I already marked him ( peeing on them as a dog marks its territoriy) *"

It is incredibly humiliating that my own Friends think I'm a whore for liking the same character they like.

It was exactly the same with all people I meet who like touken ranbu, they get mad as soon as I tell them I like a character and that character is their favorite.

They say that they are "just playing" and it is not serious, but it really makes me feel bad.

I JUST CAN'T TALK ABOUT ANY TOUKEN DANSHI WITHOUT FEARING MY FRIENDS AND SOME PEOPLE IN THE FANDOM GET MAD AND JEALOUS!!!

I mean, I loooooove all touken danshi with all my heart, they make my life beautiful, they literaly saved me from depression and anxiety. I want everybody to love them as much as I do, I would love to freely talk about them with a lot of people. But the fandom sometimes is just TOXIC.

I'm seriously thinking about leaving the fandom.

I want theese people to understand :

First, even if it is painful, the toudan are just anime characters

Second, they are known by a lot of people, it is Obvious that someone will love the same character you love. Their are not exclusively yours!

And third, It is SO DUMB to argue with other people because you don't want them to like the same character you like.

PLEASE, PLEASE GROW UP, MATURE ALREADY!

It’s Wednesday Again! I hope you enjoy this new extract of my fanfic The Memory of the Red Spider Lilies.

The enchanting echo of a small bell resonated in the distance, and he gradually emerged from the abyss of unconsciousness. Overwhelmed by an icy sensation creeping into every fibre of his being, his eyelids opened on his hands clasped and adorned with black nail polish. Around him, darkness reigned supreme, barely allowing him to discern his attire: a priesthood jōe topped with a traditional eboshi, a vestment of his aversion whose thick and heavy layers had always demanded him superhuman effort for the slightest movement. Kneeled on a liquid ground of infinite depths, as if floating above the ocean, he rose with a step back that immediately illuminated the surface like a skipping stone on water, revealing the outlines of the Japanese islands…

The small bell rang again, causing a shiver of terror that ran down his spine, and he turned to suddenly face a spectre from his past. Old enough to stand on his legs, yet too young to master speech properly—and what would be the point, since he never uttered a word?—the child stood before him. Clad in a torn kimono stained with blood, his cherry hair in disarray smelled of iron while a cursed blade, eager to inflict pain and suffering, gleamed firmly in his palm.

Seized by a searing fear, he recoiled in a hasty motion that made him fall backward. The spectre advanced peacefully, his bare and chained feet lighting up the ground with each step. Sensing the thirst for vengeance behind his impassive face— yet so opposed to his eyes shedding invisible tears, he could also hear, within his emotionless chest, his racing heart screaming at him to stop before the purity of his soul was desperately lost.

The gentle caress of his delicate fingers against his cheeks paralysed him on the spot, and the child took advantage of it to slowly bring their faces closer, capturing his lips in a passionate kiss that deprived him of all breath of life. In the hollow of his loins burned that desire for power that had never truly left him, his innocent mouth turning into sharp fangs as his alluring tongue poured an acrid taste of cruor down his throat. Irreparably corrupted, his golden pupils darkened into a vermilion shade, similar to the colour of the hundreds of corpses he had left in his deadly wake…

The cherry-haired boy jolted awake, terror gripping his senses momentarily before being replaced by a fit of coughing, bile burning his throat as he expelled it in painful waves. Drenched in sweat, overwhelmed by a disorienting haze, he began to crawl from his bed to the sliding doors for support. In the dim corridor, it seemed as if the echoes of his nightmare grew more intense, pursuing him like wisps of fog that would make his his step falter whilst he descended the stairs. Thus hampered, his unsteady movements eventually caused him to stumble and he crashed at the bottom with a thunderous thud…

The sharp sound of an object hitting the floor reverberated through the air at the same time, followed by the gushing of water like that of a river's flow, and Ookurikara's face suddenly appeared before his eyes, his usually stoic expression replaced by a concern evident in his strong embrace. At this sight, he abruptly snapped back to reality, his recent memories flooding his mind in a relentless tidal wave—the shrine filled with his wounded Touken Danshi, the treatment tables covered in blood, and Konnosuke's incessant pleas to prevent him from saving them, with the risk of sacrificing himself in the process…

Clutching the fabric of his Toudan's jacket with trembling hands, the Sage finally surrendered to a torrent of tears, unable to contain his grief, sorrow, or even shame any longer. His sobs echoed through the citadel, stirring worry among his tsukumogami who had gathered in numbers after the commotion of his fall, each standing nearby while anxiously awaiting news of their master's condition.

He didn't want to lose anyone anymore; He couldn't bear to be directly responsible for another death... to be the one feared and blamed!

Ookurikara tightened his grip at once, his demeanour softening as he attempted to comfort the grief-stricken Saniwa, a rare display of emotion from the typically reserved Uchigatana. Beside him, Shokudaikiri offered him a reassuring smile, insidiously supporting his decision to stay by the boy's side even if it meant enduring unwanted attention.

Two figures who had imposed themselves among the crowd unexpectedly overshadowed him, and the Sage lifted his head. Recognising them immediately, his eyes then widened in surprise, his visitors continuing to watch him in silence with their gaze mixing both disapproval and empathy.

[ ACNH to TS3 ] Functional Music Boxes

There are 6 different music boxes in TS3, and while the sound effects are great, they look really rough. The first time I saw the ballerina doll, it really gave me a fright. 😲 So, recently, whenever I have some free time, I've been trying to create my own music boxes.

Animal Crossing is my favorite game on the Switch. The villagers are just too adorable. Even now, I still open the game during New Year's and on my birthday to celebrate with them. I think it would be amazing to see these characters in The Sims 3 too. My favorite villager is Jacob (I call him "Fishcake" because of the Chinese pun on his name). He loves food, so I made his music box base a whole birthday cake. I also paired other lazy villagers with food. 🤣

This time's title is based on the theme "I came to see you." I'm still having fun drawing all kinds of Madasaku! ! Drawing various people is also my purpose in life. 10月、11月と舞台最終章を見に行きました。こちらも最高��時間を過ごし、マダサクの絡みは血眼で探しつつストーリーのラストを楽しみ、最後を全力体感しました！！素晴らしい時間を過ごすことができました。マダラとサクラちゃんの戦闘シーンもありました！！本体マダラと戦うシーンは胸が熱くなりました。どちらの強い思いもぶつかって😿が止まらない。サクラちゃん途中マイクトラブル？もあるシーンがありましたが、熱い演技、表情、声でカバーし舞台を圧倒していました。最後だと思うととても寂しいですが、オフショットを役者様が投稿してくださっており私はとても救われました。 また、会いたいなぁ🌸本当にありがとうございました！！

I went to see the final chapter of the play in October and November. I had a great time here as well, and enjoyed the end of the story while searching for Madasaku　involvement, and felt the ending to the fullest! ! We had a wonderful time. There was also a battle scene between Madara and Sakura-chan! ! The scene where he fights the main character Madara was heart-warming. Both strong feelings collide and I can't stop 😿. Sakura-chan, microphone trouble on the way? There was a certain scene, but they overwhelmed the stage with their passionate acting, facial expressions, and voices. I feel very sad thinking that it's the last time, but the actors posted off-shots and I was very relieved. I want to see you again 🌸 Thank you so much! !

こちらは少しおまけ💖高い買い物になりましたが、我が家もついにお迎えいたしました。このマダラモデルは最高です。どのアングルも本当に本家、原作かと思うくらいの仕上がり！！頑張って働いてついにお迎えでき、幸せです。これからのマダサクを描く上での活力とします！！やばいクオリティ！！すごいです！！！ （同じメーカーでサクラちゃんも作ってくれないかな…？🌸）

About Malleus new years card, given how heavily Japanese culture it goes into. It might be a hagoromo, a white cloth/scarf that floats in the air around a goddess. Given that Malleus is the strongest mage, it might be a symbolism of that. Even so it's used for goddess, Vil and a few others worn clothing meant for women. It wouldn't be unusual to be used for Malleus.

These asks are all about the fashion of the New Year’s Attire cards and how they relate to Japanese culture, so I thought to combine them ^^

Since I’m responding to three asks in one post and it takes a while to explain things, I’ve placed everything under the cut :> There’s a lot of discussion of Japanese clothing, culture. and folklore in this, so if you’re interested in those topics then you’re in for a treat!!

To the first ask: Though Twst is fairly gender fluid when it comes to dressing its characters, I'm certain that's not a 羽衣 (hagoromo/"feather garment/cloak"; typically worn by celestial women in Japanese mythos). Hagoromo are thinner, longer, and more scarf-like than what is depicted in Malleus's initial card art. You can tell that he's clearly got a sheet that covers his entire body there. The fabric also doesn't appear to be floating like a hagoromo would.

The first two images depict 被衣 (kazuki/katsugi); the latter two images depict 羽衣 (hagoromo); you can see there is a notable visual distinction between them.

To the second ask: It’s possible that the artists looked at kabuki fashion for inspiration, but they most likely did not base the entirety of the New Year’s Attire outfits on that alone. As Yana states in one March 2023 interview, she and her team try to avoid creating outfits that too closely resemble a single real-world culture or brand. To that end, they seem to pull their inspiration from many different cultures and time periods, which is why you'll see a mixture of traditional and modern Japanese elements in the New Year’s Attire.

歌舞伎 or Kabuki, for those who don't know, is classical form of Japanese theatre which mixes dramatic performances with traditional music and dance. I consulted with a few friends who are familiar with Japanese culture (hereby referred to as A-ko, B-ko, C-ko, and D-ko) about the topic and they had some enlightening information to share. Because I am not familiar with the art form or how to gauge it myself, I will be relaying the information provided by those friends in addition to my own research. A-ko informed me that kabuki used to be co-ed (or at least did feature women; the first kabuki troupe formed was all-women) and modern kabuki is all-men. As for the poses, B-ko remarked that they can be considered common "festival dance poses", not strictly kabuki poses. C-ko added, "[...] There is very little, if anything, kabuki-like about the New Year’s cards apart from possibly SOME of the poses [...] Jack is probably the most kabuki we’re going to get because of the dynamic palm thrust and gaudy composition of his attire." The eye makeup being red and of that design also invokes the image of kabuki makeup without it fully committing to its extravagance!

Overall, the group seemed to agree that the New Year’s Attires lack the over-the-top expressions and elaborate costumes of kabuki. There’s also the more obvious lack of full-face stage makeup, but it’s kind of a given that Twst is wouldn’t go this route, especially since the context of these cards is helping out in a store and not putting on a dramatic performance.

On the topic of Malleus and oni (Japanese yōkai, demon, orc, ogre, or troll), I don't think he's intended to look like one??? Sure, he has the horns, but as B-ko said, "[Malleus] always has those horns." Very little in his actual outfit resembles the costume a kabuki actor playing the part of an oni would wear--unless you count the excessive black, as that's a color typically used for oni, but that black is usually paired with red. As for the hair styling, D-ko explained, "Oni usually don't have hair [...]". I find it interesting that some oni masks I found do seem to have hair, but it's usually very sparse omg balding!Malleus real???? and/or a middle part and not the sideways part that Malleus is sporting. Additionally, while oni do have horns, the shape of them is nothing like Malleus’s.

It's true that fur is rarely seen in historical Japanese clothes, but they don't seem to be that common in kabuki either?? According to C-ko, "fur and pelts [...] were a luxury few could afford. Thus, only those people decorated with furs would be royalty or individuals vying for power.

B-ko suggested that the reason why Jack wears fur in his New Year’s Attire isn’t to emulate Kabuki—which tends to feature fluffy wigs, like the one pictured below—but to emphasize his “wolf”-ness and to keep him warm from the cold. C-ko pointed out, however, that “[…] fur accents (like what Jack has) became the trademark for popular and celebrated figures [...] towards the end of the warring states period; when kabuki came into vogue, many plays were inspired by the lives of such personae as well as the legends surrounding them. This is why much of kabuki is characterized by the term basara—of grandeur and ostentatious eccentricity. The actors themselves would not have had access to furs, so they focused instead upon conveying that same sort of energy through their theatrics and outlandish couture. They still used substitutes, of course.” C-ko also added, “The most memorable kabuki roles feature things like fur—which many associate with kabuki.”

Finally, the group altogether said that, “Vil isn’t [dressed like] a geisha. His outfit bears no resemblance to what geisha wears.” 芸者 or Geisha are highly trained Japanese hostesses who entertain guests with song, dance, and conversation—furthermore, there’s a rigorous training process and a very specific appearance they take on. Makeup aside (if Twst is not doing kabuki makeup, why would they do geisha makeup?), a feminine figure and long, flowing kimono is not enough to get the “the look”. B-ko commented, “[…] Calling Vil [dressing like] a geisha just because he wore a feminine kimono […] Like, damn. Does that mean every woman who wears that style [of a] kimono is a geisha now?” It takes considerable time and dedication to achieve this to earn the title; it’s not meant to be taken lightly!

From D-ko, “Overall Vil’s outfit is kinda westernized.” This is due to the hat, gloves, bows, fishnets, and laced collar. A traditional geisha’s outfit lacks the bells and whistles that Vil’s design boasts. The silhouette also seems to be wrong. Why? “Because technically you try to make your silhouette as not curvy as possible when wearing a kimono,” but Vil’s silhouette appears more hourglass-like. The devil is in the details!!

Lastly, to the third ask: Going to skip over talking about Jack's umbrella pose and the kabuki inspiration, since I already addressed that earlier in this post! I'll briefly add that it's not for sure that Malleus is meant to be a certain thing unless Yana and/or her team come out and say it. B-ko agreed, saying "I don't think you can say Malleus is definitely [Ushiwakamaru], since I literally gave [other examples of what] he's dressed like [...] I can understand 'taking inspirations from', though..."

In the final ask, Anon remarks that Jack and Malleus's looks may be inspired by that of 弁慶 (Benkei) and 牛若丸 (Ushiwakamaru), two characters from Japanese folklore. Ushiwakamaru is the nickname of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who, according to C-ko, "[...] fought and recruited his loyal vassal Benkei in a fabled confrontation on a bridge." While some elements of Jack and Malleus's New Year's Attires resemble what Ushiwakamaru and Benkei are usually depicted wearing--especially Malleus's veil--not all of it matches up. For example, as B-ko notes, "[...] what Malleus is wearing under the veil isn't what Ushiwakamaru is wearing, but looks [like] more of a kannushi (神主/"divine master (of ceremonies; often Shinto clergy)")." B-ko linked this site and recommended checking it out to make clothing comparisons; the kannushi garb was just an item they picked out for similarities on a cursory glance. This brings me back to a point I mentioned in the second ask: Twst's fashion takes inspiration from many sources and blends them.

"I think it really boils down to [Malleus and Jack] evoking the atmosphere of that famous [Ushiwakamaru and Benkei] print," C-ko continues. They drew comparisons between Malleus, a character twisted from Maleficent (commonly depicted with her raven Diablo), and Usiwakamaru, who is the disciple of a tengu {crow/raven yokai). They also compared Jack, a steadfast and virtuous individual, with Benkei, who is a monk with similar traits. Furthermore, in the famous folklore story, Benkei is depicted as having felled 999 men before facing off against Usiwakamaru, a supernatural force. So, like Jack, Benkei is a powerful combatant up against an even more powerful supernatural force, Usiwakamaru/Malleus.

OKAY GUYS THE TUTORIAL⭐️

I’m so happy so many people liked them and wanted to make them themselves or make other characters 🥹🥹 they’re the cutest things and I genuinely believe making the little guys you love in sylvanian form is one of the best things you can do, so I wanted to make a little tutorial, specially for @eliounora I hope you have fun!!! ♥️♥️

This is mostly patterns but I’ll try to explain how I did the things that did not need a pattern. if anyone needs help please do not hesitate to send me a message, I’ll do my best to try to help

Before, here’s a page with many other examples, turning sylvanian’s into characters is super popular in Japan, I got into it from seeing touken ranbu ones on Twitter so please check it out, anyone can be made into one and it’s so much fun deciding which animal fits you character

Let’s begin, the measurements will be in centimeters.

1. The cape

Here’s a picture of how the cape looks finished. You’ll need a square of red fabric, around 8cm width and 5cm height. I included all the measurements I could take in case you need them.

Cut it with a seam allowance of 0’5 cm. Just in case, wrap the fabric around the figure to see if it’s not too small.

You will need either glue or hemming tape cut very small. Press the seam allowance and then glue or press with the hemming tape to seal the edges.

Mark the center of the square and fold it in half. Sew half of it and cut open the rest. This will be the opening for the tail.

Glue or press 0,5 cm of the opening you just cut with hemming tape.

2. The pants

Cut two pieces of fabric leaving 0,5 cm of seam allowance on the top and bottom of the pattern.

Sew, glue or press with hemming tape the top and bottom of each piece. It’s easier to do it before sewing them together.

Sew the pieces together leaving an opening on one of the sides for the tail.

Fold in half so the two sides you just sewed are touching and sew a straight line.

3. The shirt

I used the same pattern for the shirt and Merlin’s jacket.

The pattern on the left with the measurements need to be folded to use so it looks like the drawing below.

Once cut, use a lighter to burn the edges of the fabric or apply fabric glue, this will make it less bulky than if you were to sew every edge.

Fold the fabric and sew around the armpits and down the sides, it should look like the picture below.

Cut two small pieces of Velcro tape and sew them on the back. Remember to leave the bottom open for the tail.

Important!! I did not fix the pattern so once you are done you will notice it’s longer than it should be. When you are done sewing you will need to cut both the arms length and the bottom, try it on the figure and cut however long you like it, I did it this way because I was unsure how long I wanted their shirts to be.

4. The jacket

For the jacket I took the pattern for the shirt and closed the back and opened the front, I also cut the sleeves separate so it will look more like a jacket.

Cut the three pieces in a brown fabric darker than the pants, burn or glue the edges before sewing them together.

Attach the sleeves to the sides and fold. Then sew around the armpits and down the sides.

Again you will need to cut the sleeves and bottom to your liking.

And now the things that did not use a pattern!

5. The chainmail

This is a picture of the trim I used to make Arthur’s chainmail. You can use any similar trim. I just cut two pieces, attached the first one underneath his arms around his torso, and then the second one around his arms. Sewed the ends together and then made the belt with a piece of brown velvet trim and a mini belt buckle.

They look like this, I got mines from Aliexpress. Again I sewed it at the back and voila, Arthur’s done.

For Merlin’s belt I just used some of the fabric of his jacket, burned the edges and secured at the front with a stitch.

For his neckerchief I cut a scrap of red fabric, played with it around the figure’s neck and when I liked how it looked I secured it at the back with a stitch.
