Motherly Sister X The Crains | Headcanon

After the first incident of Hill House, things were rough for everyone 

Neither of your siblings were able to be even eat properly for weeks 

Like Steven, you didn’t experience the events as hard as everyone else did, so you decided it was your job to take care of them to make up for it

With Nellie, you went online and researched ways to help with sleep paralysis

She didn’t believe it was in her head though 

So you researched supernatural ways so she’d still feel safe and in control

Sleeping besides her during storms, using crystals like Amethyst and Black Tourmaline, getting her a nightlight, even giving her a stuffed animal as a lucky charm that she carried to adulthood 

With Theo, she became heavily distant and dealt with it herself 

So you used little ways to help her, often giving her advice indirectly when you noticed she was struggling, and even having personal conversations to create a better bond 

Shirley had difficult with separation anxiety  

So you hung out with her and practiced with distancing 

Which meant creating a little goodbye ritual, always being on schedule when it came to returning home and constantly giving her reassurance that everything was going be okay  

It became easier for her to handle, even before you managed to get your aunt to put her in therapy 

With Luke, he kept blanking out a lot 

You weren’t sure what to do with him, so you just looked out for the important things 

As an example, if he was given a chore, you listened for him in case he was distracted again

Steven was a bit more simple, you just had to be a bit more vulnerable with him to make him feel like he’s being a good brother to you 

And with everything that came, you were the glue that held everyone together 

Always making sure to update each other, constantly calling to check in on your siblings 

Being the first one that everyone calls in case there was an emergency, mainly because they knew you would drop everything for them, even if they were the ones who got themselves in trouble 

Usually the scolding came after everything would be settled down and you were sure that they were okay

And when Steven published his books, you were a bit alienated 

Mainly by Shirley as you didn’t seem bothered at all by Steven 

Having a bit of strained relationship with her, though you didn’t fully leave her life since you still checked up only occasionally  

Constantly being the one to help fund Luke’s rehab, even after he ran away and everyone gave up 

Ending up as Nellie’s bride of honour, yet not knowing about how Luke tried to go into her wedding 

Nellie wasn’t the only one they were trying to protect with this little secret 

Your relationship began to grow more distant with everyone after the wedding 

Especially during the reunion of Hill House when Shirley started showing how much she disliked the way you kept trying to be the family’s “mediator” 

Though you would come together after almost losing your brother and losing your sister 

You did lay off a bit with Shirley though 

Who tried her best to repair any issues she had with you right after 

Constantly trying to be there for everyone after Nellie’s death

Which meant putting more work and time with Luke 

And constantly trying to reassure Steven that he wasn’t at fault 

Even though they were bit of a handful, you still loved them as they loved you the same

“ WHERE’S NELLIE! ”             She hears it first, the loud sound of her parents screaming for her.  They still care.  That’s good.  That’s a really good sign.                        “ I was holding her hand  --  the whole time  --  ”                This time it’s Theo  --  her voice is a booming thunder in Nellie’s ear.  There’s a terror that can’t be described, a desperation to find what’s right in front of them.

“ I’m right here! ”           Now it’s Nellie who speaks, fear the thing lacing her words with a vice grip around her throat.  Theo has let go, and everyone else seems so frantic.  The six year old’s face contorts  --  why are they looking everywhere else when I’m right here?

“ Mommy -- mommy, I’m right here! ”        Her voice grows louder, her own mother brushing past her to head for the stairs.  Before she can blink, they’re all running somewhere else  --  as if they could FIND HER anywhere but in the spot she’s stood still in.  Maybe if she doesn’t stand still.  Maybe if she stomps her feet they’ll see her!

She stomps.  She stomps the wooden floor and then moves onto the carpet.  Her brain isn’t formed enough to think that the vibrations of her stomping will be soaked up by the carpet beneath her feet.  So she keeps stomping until she feels something appear behind her.  It must be Luke. It must be -- -- -- -- --

Heels turn and the cacophony of noise that her siblings and parents are making gets blocked out by the luminous sound that escapes her lungs.  The way she screams could illuminate the colors of the ghost that falls before her.  Her very own Bent Neck Lady.  She’s only there for a moment, but it’s enough time to make Nellie shudder back and run herself right into the ornate wall by the more ornate front doors.                   “ Mommy!  DADDY!   Luke!!  THEO?  Shirley  --  STEVIE!  I’m right here -- I -- I’m right here! ”

A final scream rings out from her lips as the chandelier falls  --  not exactly on it’s own.  It’s a blink and you miss it moment  ( and which ghost pulled it through the gravity of the room she doesn’t know )  but it’s enough to drag her feet back to the carpet.

There are ghosts bleeding from the walls of this house, and when they see her again she knows one thing  --  they’ll NEVER believe her.

do you have any headcanons for the haunting of hill house? I always felt that steve (being the oldest) and theo (with her attitude) growing up would be the biggest lers. I also thought that through "the twin thing" nell and luke could sometimes feel when the other was being tickled

Theo and Steve are definitely giant lers, 1000% correct

Steve:

- Definitely a massive lee

- Big brother bear honestly

- the tickle monster was coming for his younger siblings way often

- Luke and Nell were his biggest targets, Luke would run and Nell would just stay and take it

- Steve would just follow Luke and grab him around the waist, picking him up

- Not really ticklish except in a few places

- snorts when he laughs

Shirley:

- surprisingly really ticklish

- Tickled most by Steve n Nell

- She’s got really ticklish ears and elbows 

- feet are her worst spot

- really airy giggles

- she’s so soft when she tickles her siblings uwu

- she tickles them to cheer them up, but always soft and she has mercy

Theo:

- not really a lee because of her touch thing, but when she has her gloves on she is an evil ler

- tickles her siblings whenever they’re irritating her, with little to no mercy

- Steve and Luke are on the receiving end of most of this torture because they annoy Theo the most

- knows everybody’s worst spots and takes full advantage, she loves blackmail material against her siblings

- when she’s tickling shirley and nell she’s much softer, and she definitely has more mercy, she’s usually tickling them playfully

Before I do Luke and Nell, uh yes I love your headcanon anon, tickling is definitely part of the Twin Thing. One of them will be getting tickled and the other will start giggling from wherever they are, their siblings knew this like right away. The one who’s not getting tickled usually feels it softer, which is what lets Theo and Steve be so merciless on Luke.

Nell:

- super bubbly, adorable laughter

- really ticklish behind her ears, like Shirl

- most ticklish on her tummy

- always loved tickling, just lays there and giggles

- not much of a ler unless it comes to Luke, but she has to find loopholes to the Twin Thing to tickle him

- really soft ler, coos and teases

Luke:

- Hated tickling when he was younger, especially in his teens when his sibs would tickle him to get him to behave

- super ticklish with loud belly laughter

- can’t handle teases

- when he becomes an adult he kinda misses his siblings tickling him because theyre not as close

- Nell still tickles him but he misses Steve and Theo

- a super soft ler like Nell

- unless it comes to Steve, he is absolutely ruthless against steve

olivia  crain     -     liv  is  very  in  tune  with  her  feelings.  she’s  an  empath  (  and  a  psychic  )  and  she’s  lived  with  and  around  death  her  whole  life.  to  her,  it’s  natural.  it’s  still  sad,  and  obviously  if  she  had  lived  to  lose  her  husband  or  one  of  her  children,  it  would  be  devastating.  but  it  wouldn’t  be  completely  heartbreaking.  grief  is  natural  and,  truthfully,  she  welcomes  it.  it’s  difficult  to  say  whether  she  grieved  her  own  death.  she  wasn’t  herself  in  hill  house.  and  even  she  eleanor  joined  her,  she  was  still  influenced  by  the  house.  the  grief  and  guilt  does  hit  her  eventually,  but  even  then  it’s  different.

olivia  benson     -     she  bottles  it.  a  common  response  to  intense  emotional  distress  for  a  lot  of  people,  but  especially  for  olivia.  she  usually  uses  her  work  as  a  distraction,  or  she  ignores  it  entirely  until  it  all  becomes  too  much  for  her.  it  really  is  not  healthy  at  all,  and  she  fully  recognises  that.  she  is  a  little  bit  of  a  hypocrite  when  it  comes  to  consoling  others,  telling  them  that  it’s  important  for  them  to  deal  with  their  grief  and  trauma  in  their  own  time,  their  own  way,  and  then  just  completely  refusing  to  acknowledge  hers.

@wildlynaiive​ - hello bee, here we go again ! first of all, you are an absolutely incredible writer and you really manage to catch my interest for each of your muses with your narrative; even those i am not familiar with ! you have this brilliant way of being so descriptive both regarding your characters’ thoughts and feelings but also their surroundings. i usually struggle being descriptive about surroundings so that certainly impresses me a lot. as i said before, your portrayal of eleanor crain is one of my favorite things about your blog, you capture her voice so well and it is so true to the character, how could anyone not love it ? now, that was just one muse i am familiar with, but you also managed to make me root for tj hammond. he’s a muse i am completely unfamiliar with but your writing, the way you describe his thoughts and actions it makes me want to learn more about him. a headcanon i fell in love with is still the one about luke and nellie being d&d nerds! last but not least, i would also like to say that there is one sentence that stuck with me, and maybe it is for a rather funny reason but that sentence is “Sometimes Nellie just enjoys feeling closer to the ground. It … grounds her.” why, you might ask me now, and the answer is rather easy: it’s because it would be a perfect line for a musings post; at least i feel like that vibes with many muses in general. so, let me say it once again, you’re an amazing writer, bee, and i fell absolutely in love with your narrative ! <3
